20 Best Cheap Flannel Shirts (2022 Updated)

After purchasing the first Tough as Buck Flannel, I purchased a second one. I have more flannels then one man should own and this is my new favorite. Very high quality stitching, thick flannel to keep you warm, soft, and fits nicely.

So far I have used it during deer hunting and upland bird hunting in Pennsylvania. And also during western hikes, fabric is breathable as well.

This was our first time ordering from Legendary Whitetails. The order arrived quickly and exactly when predicted (by Whitetails). My husband was really pleased with the quality of this flannel. The shirt is well made and feels as if it will last for years.

The print can easily be worn working around the house, out with friends, or even to his business casual office. Definitely recommend the shirt and the company!.

Heavyweight is a misnomer. This shirt is middleweight at best. It comes out of the wash a bit wrinkled, the buttons don’t run straight, and the overall appearance is a bit sloppy. St. John’s Bay middleweight flannels from JCPenny are a better example of a well priced, well made, and better fitting flannel.

Good: Fits well and doesn’t shrink.

Five stars for the shirts but zero stars for not offering these shirts this year. I’ve come to depend on these flannel shirts year after year for my husband. I haven’t seen them in stores this 2020 season and I haven’t been able to order them online either.

They were “offered” online because I placed an order for 4 shirts for my husband for Christmas but every one was cancelled! That is terrible service. The system needs to be updated better and accurate.

Many times the app says that items are available that are not. I hope these shirts will be available next year but this was very disappointing.

I have bought many of George’s flannel shirts over the last few years (and other types as well as trousers). Just bought 4 more. I am grateful for George as the quality is always consistently excellent and I can buy more than other brands because they are affordable.

They launder well, hold their shape and do not fade or pill up. (I put them in the dryer for 10 minutes, remove and hang to dry. ) I also have to say there are two good signs of high quality I have noticed besides good fabric.

In the flannel shirts, the fabric of the pockets matches that of the shirts’ pattern. In regular shirts, the last buttonhole is horizontal which makes its button more secure. Extra buttons are much appreciated.

I only have two wishes for the pant styles. Those with cuffs are too difficult to iron and make look neat. I have to pay someone to remove them. And could there possibly be some navy blue fabric somewhere in the world to make navy blue pants? Thank you, George, for helping us look nice anywhere we go, whether to work, social activities or staying at home.

I purchased just two of the flannel shirts in tall sizing. I’ve worn flannels for decades, usually from other retailers such as Bean or Lands End. It would be fair to say these are roughly half the price so my expectations were not high.

The flannel weight is good and that is a mark of reasonable quality. The patterns nicely aligned on the pockets and sleeves. Shrinkage was not significant. It would be hard to tell, but the weave may not be quite as tight on the fabric.

That makes for a softer feeling shirt though the design may not stay crisp as long. Flannel does that anyway, so not troublesome. I have at least three shirts in my closet that have color combinations I’m sorry I purchased.

I would, and likely will, replace those with Cabela’s RedHeads.

This is a great shirt in a classic and handsome plaid. I think it’s the most comfortable flannel that I own-it’s awesome! The cut of the shirt is generous. I intentionally bought a larger size than I expected that I needed so that it could shrink down to a comfortable fit.

It’s obviously a very high quality flannel since it hasn’t shrunk as much as I had expected after washing in hot water and drying on high. Also awesome is Bass Pro’s service. The first shirt they shipped me was lost by the carrier, so once they confirmed this they immediately shipped out another shirt and I had it in two days.

I received this shirt about a month ago. I bought the 5XL but if I had a chance to try it on in the store I probably would have bought the 4XL. I don’t think their sizing was wrong. In any case I LOVE this flannel shirt, especially it’s feel and the beauty of it’s Holiday Ivory plaid pattern.

I doubt that I would have liked any of the other designs. When I went back, the Holiday Ivory was sold out. It reminded me of the high quality, plaid flannel shirts my mom used to buy for me when I was a teenager.

I have no doubt that I will wear this shirt until it is worn out. The comfort is amazing. Just the kind of shirt you want to wear in the Fall and Winter months or on a camping trip. The sale price of $40 was fantastic.

Ordinarily I think the shirt would sell for $70 Cdn.

Extremely limited fit option. Baggy baggy baggy! Everything I want and need but not available in regular fit. I don’t understand that. If I were 5’ tall and 5’ wide It would be a decent fit. Oh well, I’m batting 1000 on my last 3 purchases from carhartt.

Nothing fits because the items only come in LOOSE FIT!!!.

This is my 3rd Carhartt flannel. and it seems like they just keep getting better. I ordered a flannel from another reputable company recently and it did not hold a candle to the Carhartt. Triple stitching on the shoulders and sleeves.

2 buttons on the sleeve for more. or less room around your wrist. Just a great flannel.

Great flannel! It’s a nice weight (not too thick, not too thin and not bulky like traditional flannels), comfortable and figure flattering (and not boxy). It does run slightly large and long in length but can assure it will shrink a bit.

After 2 washes (I dry it on low for 10 min then hang on drying rack), it now fits me perfectly. I returned to my local store to buy another. :).

I had to order a 3X just to get a flannel shirt with long enough sleeves and hemline. The men’s XLT Blue Mountain Shirts are perfect in length, but they only come in men’s colors, like blue, green and black.

Sometimes a gal wants to wear pink! If only Blue Mountain would make tall sizes in women’s they would be perfect!.

I bought two other exact shirts in previous years in different colors. I bought large because I was told it shrinks and the salesman was correct. When I picked up this one it was huge and wears more like a mens large instead of a woman’s large and didn’t shrink to medium like the other ones did.

I just wear it more like a cover up over a t-shirt and kept it.

I was skeptical at first because typically low price = low quality. With this garment that was not the case. The cut is very flattering and the quality Of the stitching and the fabric exceeded expectations.

I’m purchasing one in every colour they offer, great for layering or as a campfire cover up. I get the impression from the material that it’s best to be washed in cold water to prevent fading / bleeding and hang to dry to prevent pilling.

Fabric is soft , what I would expect in a nice flannel. The quality is great for the pricing and the sizing is true to fit. I haven’t washed one yet so I can’t comment if the fabric will shrink or not.

But my guess is with the polyester blend , there should minimal , if any.

This flannel is nice and thick, so it’s worth the money. I did think it ran a little snug, so I’d suggest going up a size. The sleeves are nice and long, and the back is long enough to wear with leggings.

The back of the flannel is significantly longer than the front. I wasn’t crazy about how much longer, but a lot of people like that style.

These shirts are perfect for fall and winter! I received the yellow and red colors. The yellow is perfect for fall family pictures when paired with blue. The red will be perfect for Christmas time. The material is very soft and dries well.

They are a big big for the size, but they are perfect for children to grow into. My son says he likes them because they keep him warm on cold days.

After moving from Miami to Santa Fe, NM my wardrobe needed a refresh so I went on the hunt for flannel shirts and sweaters. I spent a couple weeks lusting over Pendleton’s classic shirts but couldn’t drop the $$ on the Board or Lodge with out seeing them in person.

Instead, I purchased the Burnside while on sale for 1/3 the price of the classics and now have a new favorite shirt. It is soft beyond belief, cut well for my body type and good, sturdy quality. I purchased the gray plaid, which is darker than the website shows, but it I think it looks great.

I’m 5’11”, 210lbs with a muscular build and barrel chest and would normally order a large. I sized down to a medium based on reviews and it fits perfectly. It’s what I consider a medium weight flannel that I can throw over a t-shirt and be comfortable when its in sunny and in the 40’s or 50’s or I can wear it base layer to put my Westerly sweater or jacket over when temperatures dip at night.

Even though this is the budget option in the Pendleton line-up you would never know. After wearing it for a week I’ve already purchased another one. Can’t wait to have two hanging in my closet.

Well constructed, very nice materials, and quality sewn buttons. Very soft chamois, maybe not thick, but should keep its quality over a long period. I’d buy again, and the price is reasonable for the quality of materials and quality of construction.

(It fits well, I’m 6. 0′ and perhaps 180 pounds. I typically need longer sleeves, so my arms are longer than average. Sometimes I buy extra large, but shoulders don’t match well, though tolerable). I haven’t washed yet, so don’t know shrinkage.

If it’s worthless after the first wash, I’ll let you know.

My husband got tired of low quality, ill fitting flannels cluttering his closet 5 years ago, and now only wears this kind! I buy one for his birthday every year. It’s fun to see the different colors that come out from Pendleton each year.

Not only does he look sharp, but he is extra soft and snuggly for me. That’s a win-win in my book.

Love this flannel! I needed a slightly heavy long sleeve shirt to help when I ride. When I start riding in the afternoon the summer temps are warm or hot. However, when the sun sets I needed something to cover my arms and this flannel is perfect for this.

I can roll it up and stow it on the bike. Absolutely great material. I get lots of compliments on the color and style. Of course, it’s Carhartt so it is legendary!.

I have been looking for a thick and soft flannel shirt. I had been getting them at other places, but they seem to be harder and harder to find. The only thick ones I have much luck finding now are lined and that is not what I’m after.

This is a nice shirt and the price is good. It doesn’t compare as well to others I’ve found. It is not as soft nor as thick. It is well constructed and thicker than the everyday flannels I find. I will buy another when the time comes.

I bought two of these online after buying the only one that fit in the store. They’re for my son, who is taking welding in high school every day. He’s probably nearly six feet tall, yet he prefers small, since Carhartt runs large (and loose), and he doesn’t want his sleeves to stick out during welding.

He likes these. We bought the first one with him present in the store, then two others online, the idea being that the color he liked wasn’t available in the store in his size, and even the Carhartt website didn’t have them for him.

My Robles flannel shirt is well made. The fabric is soft to touch. The natural and blue plaid with yellow stripe is beautiful. I look forward to wearing this as the months get colder. The slim medium is true to size, being a tad tighter than the BR regular medium shirts.

If you are an in-between size, you may want to try in the store first. The large felt much looser than the medium.

Best flannel I’ve ever bought. Great fit.

I love the shirt and color! It looks great and brand new fits perfectly. It is high quality and seems like it will hold up for a long time. The problem is it can shrink easily. I know the shirt is 100% cotton so I washed in cold water and hung it to dry, but even taking those precautions it still shrank a little.

Because it is a little more expensive than my other camping shirts I am not sure that I would buy it again, but it is nice.

I bought this shirt for my husband and he absolutely loves it. It fits him perfectly and he can be dressed up or dressed down and the material is not too heavy and not too late it’s a very comfortable shirt.

The material is a very good quality.

Bought these for sons and spouse. Warm winter shirt, especially good for outdoor cold-weather work/sports. Fabric is thick and soft, great colors. Well-constructed. Only concern is shrinkage. Spouse’s shirt has shorter arms after laundering.

Beware of dryer heat–keep it low to minimize cotton shrinkage.

This is a very nice plaid and the fit of the shirt is good. My husband normally needs a size large-tall in order to get the sleeves long enough, but this shirt fits him well. He put it on and modeled it as soon as he opened it for Christmas, he was so excited about it.

I bought several colors of these for gifts. Every single one shrank at least 2 sizes for their owners after washing. Could not return, a major expense and embarrasement.

Dress it up or dress it down. This shirt is super cute! I typically wear a medium to large depending on the style & brand. I have a 36D chest and ordered a medium. I found that it ran smaller than expected.

Instead of ordering the next size up and ordered the XL for an oversized look. Highly recommend this top but if you are busty size up one for your regular fit and 2 sizes up for a loose or oversized look.

I absolutely loved this flannel! Colors were vibrant, outside was soft, and it was the perfect oversized look that I was going for. The inside ended up being really scratchy though(think the feeling of the material inside a Halloween costume) so I ended up returning it.

If you plan on wearing this with a long sleeve top, it should be fine though!.

LOVE: I loved the print of this shirt, been looking for these colors for quite some time, so I was thrilled to find it. There’s a sewn together gather in the back, which makes this relaxed fit shirt more feminine-shaped instead of boxy.

But it’s still relaxed through the body, not clingy at all. The fabric is soft, and unique. not a traditional “fIannel plaid shirt” feel, but cozy. Ordered a M, body fits great, relaxed with room to spare – and I’m a size 8/10 in tops usually.

The length is nice, and sleeves are plenty long, and I’m 5’10. BUT. HATE: What is up with sleeves these days?!?! The sleeves of this shirt (although long enough) are so small and tight, it’s as if the circumference of child-sized sleeves were made in an adult length and sewn on a shirt!! How do I know?? Because I compared the sleeves to some of my 8 yr-old’s similar style shirts, and they were the same in sleeve width! Feels like a “generous Medium” top with XXS sleeves.

I was able to sqeeze into them, but if I bend my arms I would certainly bust a seam. So unless you’re average sized with gumby-like, waif-thin arms, you’ll have trouble with this. It really stinks, b/c I love everything else about the shirt.

Bummer. If I had an option, I would give 5 STARS on style, and 1 STAR on fit/sizing. so it gets a 3. NOTE: IM RATING IT “VERY FITTED” – ONLY BASED ON THE SLEEVES. THE SHIRT ITSELF WOULD BE OTHERWISE PERFECT.

There is still a little hole in the sleeve from where the little plastic flexible rod holding the paper tags was inserted through the fabric. I wish shirts wouldn’t attach the tags in this way because it seems to damage the fabric.

Otherwise the shirt looks great on me.

I have bought several of these. They do seem to run small for the sizes. Good quality and great comfort. My husband says it is the warmest shirt you can have.

This shirt is of good quality, I have no problem after wearing it twice. The only wish of mine , is that it was of more thick material. Compared to what is found in big name stores today, this is a good buy.

Bought three flannel shirts during the after the Orvis after Christmas sale last year, two being the Perfect Flannel Shirt. The third being the Lodge Flannel style with lighter material. All three having tags indicating they were made at the same place.

The Perfect Flannel is heavy, warm and comfortable. Wear my flannel shirts around the house, running errands, and to ward off late afternoon chill. I bought XL regular, fit my chest and shoulders, not tight or loose, just right.

I have long arms, yet the shirts have no problem with my 36-inch arm length. As with others the primary issue is how the shirt hangs on my trunk. Hangs like a maternity dress. The excess material is a good 6 inches if not more, larger than the chest.

It is for that reason I graded the product at 3 stars. I was thinking at getting another one during the current sale, but the negative reviews comment on how large the lower portion of the shirt is consistent with older reviews.

So, I will stick with the two I have, which I will continue to wear. My 3rd purchased flannel shirt was a Lodge Flannel, it isn’t as heavy, but the XL fits great, and I intend on getting another one.

My husband has wanted some good quality flannel shirts for quite some time. For reference, he is 5’11’ and 200 lbs. Normally he wears an XL. I ordered 4 shirts for Christmas but I ordered all size Large due to reviews saying they run big.

Well that was a mistake – they fit okay in the chest/waist but sleeve length ran short. Shipping cost money and the return cost money. Okay, it was my mistake so no problem. When I started the return process, I received an email that said, “We’re sorry it didn’t work out….

here’s shipping (on us) for your next order. ” I definitely wanted to order more shirts so I clicked the button to add the shipping (on us) to my account. It didn’t work. But I ordered more shirts anyway.

This time I ordered XL. My husband tried them on and the sleeves are too short. Actually one sleeve is a different length then the other. Now I have to pay to ship them back. Been married 21 years, I know my husbands size.

I’ve never had to order tall shirts, ever. I’m not going to bother ordering for a third time. My final thought is that these shirts are not worth the price. If I ordered again, I would once again pay shipping and return costs.

I should’ve listened to the 1 star reviews because they’re real. Will never purchase from this company again. And BTW they won’t publish any review that talks about prices, even the shipping that is “supposed to on them.

Unfortunately, I had to return the current version of this fabulous shirt! The previous version of this shirt was made in India. The current version is made in Mauritius and is NOT the same build. My size is Large-Tall.

I have four of this shirt that were made in India, which fit perfectly for me (17. 5″/36″). The current version’s chest width and mid-section width are much narrower now–uncomfortably tight for me. However, the biggest problem is the sleeve width at the forearm and the cuff-around length.

The cuff-around measured 1″ smaller than my other shirts, making buttoning the sleeve almost impossible. I returned the shirt to my local Orvis store and tried on a Regular XL. Same problem with the cuff, unfortunately.

Orvis, please go back to your previous vendor! I really wanted the new Blue/Grey one!.

I have been searching all over for a “shacket” to wear this fall and into winter. Everything I’ve ordered or looked at is too dressed up, too expensive, enormous and sloppy, or poor quality in general.

I figured I’d give a men’s flannel shirt a try instead. I got this on sale with rewards points but I’d have paid full price for it. I’m 5’2″ 150lbs (female) and I ordered the medium in the black and white.

It is thick enough to keep me warm and had plenty of room to layer a thin sweatshirt, long sleeve shirt or maybe even a sweater under it. It hits mid thigh on me which is what I was looking for. coverage over my butt so I can wear with leggings.

This is super soft, warm, and looks great on. Could very easily dress it up with combat style boots and some jewelry over a sweater or wear it more casual with a loose tee and sneakers. Can’t wait for it to cool off so I can wear it!.

I’m 6’2 180lbs I have long arms and when I buy regular long sleeve shirts the sleeves usually stop before my wrist and the shoulders are super tight across my back as well, think “big guy in a little coat” anyway I ordered the medium tall and the fit in the sleeve length and shoulders is perfect! My only concern is if this shrinks at all it’s probably not going to fit.

I’m planning on getting a large and that should be perfect after a wash/dry cycle. Seems well made and is super soft.

My 14yo son has been wearing the red flannel (small) nonstop since the holidays. Just got him the blue plaid (medium) and he wore it to school for 3 days in a row this week. Nice cut, looks great, so soft and comfortable, and looks put together.

Small fits perfectly, looks tailored; medium is looser/longer fit, both look awesome.

For context, I’m 5’10 140lbs and got a slim medium on sale. The design (Spiced Brandy Plaid) is amazing, the fit is just as slim as I wanted it, and the shirt feels durable and cozy. I only have two minor complaints: 1) The shirt is a bit longer than I would like, hanging down near the button of my fly instead of halfway.

Granted, I could have gotten a small, but that would only have made it 0. 5in shorter per the size chart, which MIGHT have been enough but hard to say. 2) Cuffing. The shirt doesn’t have a button halfway down the sleeve placket as many button-up/flannel shirts do, which makes so you can’t really roll the cuff back twice then push your sleeve up to your elbow, which is something I like to do with flannels.

You can still roll it back once and re-button the cuff, but that’s a bit more work and harder to push up your arm.

Super soft, beautiful color patterns, perfect length at both the arms and waist. This is most definitely the perfect fall/ winter flannel due to its thickness, which makes it perfect for layering or for pairing with a plain tee shirt underneath and using the flannel as a overshirt.

Be very careful whether purchasing the slim cut or standard cut, if you’re carrying a few extra pounds on your midsection, because these two cuts are very unforgiving and will definitely let you know whether or not you should stick to the standard box cut.

If you’re very muscular like myself, this shirt has the perfect amount of stretch in the chest and arm area. Highly versatile, so it can be worn in the office, date night or just around the house.

I am a new bonobos customer, but I always order XL tailored/slim fit shirts from Jcrew, BR, REI, etc. I may be getting bigger, but this XL slim is a tad too tight in the chest. My chest measures ~45 so I’ve always ordered a classic fit large or a slim fit XL.

The shirt buttons slightly stretch for the top two buttons, but the rest is fine. I can definitely wear this shirt comfortably if I don’t get any bigger -I should probably stop doing pull ups and bench press and lay off the ice cream.

With that being said, the quality is great and I’ll most definitely order more from bonobos in a xl relaxed/standard fit, too bad this shirt couldn’t be exchanged for a standard style.

This is so soft and the perfect size for an oversized top. I would recommend buying your true size. The length is right for my petite frame and shorter torso. Usually I look like I’m drowning in material or I purchase my size and it isn’t oversized.

I was expecting more of a jacket but it’s definitely more of a thick button up shirt. It is very soft and comfy. The colors in the photo look more muted and in person it’s brighter. It is definitely oversized and you can probably pair this with leggings.

Overall, love the look and the feel.

This is just a flannel shirt. The version sold last year was much thicker and had pockets – this is thinner and lacks pockets. The sleeves are also short. Very disappointing because I wore my one last year like crazy.

Not worth the price in my opinion.

A very nice flannel shirt. New, organic version is soft and durable feeling, am glad for upgrade in fabric for several reasons. Current shift is slightly smaller than last years version. I wish the sleeve cuffs had 2 holes as a choice for buttoning either tight or loose.

I am a smaller gal, and all the REI flannel shirt cuffs are too wide on my wrists. The task of moving the cuffs’ buttons has not yet made it to the top of my ‘to do’ list. Also, the color choices this year for women are just ‘okay’, none too interesting for my tastes, kind of washed out in appearance.

I want to request a specific color for next year’s crop of Wallace Lake Flannel Shirts: how about a rich, dark red with thin plaid stripes to complement like yellow, blue, green, etc. I continually have searched for a women’s flannel shirt in this color of rich, dark, ‘brick red'(?) without success.

My guess is this color would sell out quickly.

I was looking for a flannel and snagged this color during REI’s winter sale. The green was the perfect shade of green (not too much yellow, not too much blue). The small details in it really sold me on the shirt: the snap top Botton, sturdy flannel construction so it can be worn as an outer layer or inner layer.

I took it on a holiday trip to Seattle where it worked great as a mid layer under a jacket walking around the city, and worked great tied at the front and dressed up with a pleated skirt and boots for dinner! I hope REI keeps this style in circulation! It was exactly what I needed.

As some other reviewers have pointed out, the side seams no longer have the reinforcement, which I do miss, but they are still there for the pockets. That is the only reason I rate it a 4 star. I am 145 lbs and the Large is big enough with plenty of room around the body, but the arms are only just the right length.

So not much room in the arms for more than one T shirt. I use it as a lightweight jacket over a longsleve thermal shirt and it is great for warmth on these spring days in the Sierra. I have two of these flannel shirts.

I love this shirt soooooo much I just ordered the other colour! It’s very oversized,I’m a 14/16 top (36ff) I got a size medium and it’s very roomy (without looking silly). I recommend 1 size down for an oversized fit or 2 sizes down if you prefer a closer fit.
