20 Best Cheap Rifle Safe (2022 Updated)

So disappointed in this safe. Sturdy enough but the keypad buttons are awkward and when I turn the dial to open the safe my fingers slip off. There is not enough to grab to pull open the door and I have small hands.

Plus I have to lift up the door slightly and then pull it to try to open it. Definitely not a good safe if you need to get something out fast. Should’ve gotten one with a better handle.

This was my first hayneedle purchase and was very happy. I ordered Monday, paid $5 extra dollars on the shipping and got it Friday at my doorstop. Perfect product out of the box. This is my first fun safe and was bought primarily to keep our children safe from our shotgun.

When I was setting it up, my 4 year old son would not stop messing with it. Luckily, I put in all my fingerprints before he did so, and he had no luck getting in. I think the scanner works very well and very quick.

You can find some general videos on the scanner. It is definitely quick enough for home protection. This safe is pretty small, but I only needed space for one gun and shells. I would think 2 guns would be preferable but could definitely do 4 if they were normal without a bunch of add ons.

Mounting instructions were the only poor part, but easy enough if you have any clue on hardware. Mine is on the second floor so I just went and bought some lag screws and washers and locked it to the floor and wall.

Since it is small, one side would not reach the other stud, so I used standard drywall anchors with washers. It is not going anywhere. I used 1/4″ x 3″ lag screws. It comes with concrete anchor screws.

I did not use them. These would be ok if you had it on a ground floor. Safe is very solid, but not a super secure safe for burglary. Thin door cover that could be pulled open with a crow bar or popped with a good magnet.

The bolts are good. Essentially, a great safe for keeping kids out and burglars looking for a quick getaway. I would not trust it for ultimate security. That would probably cost you closer to 1k.

I found it easy to use. I am fairly handy, so installation was straightforward as well. Very pleased with the biometrics, the fingerprint reader is accurate and fast so access to your guns is quick and limited to the fingerprints you program.

I think the 4-gun foam gun rest could use an upgrade to magnetic backing rather than the weak adhesive it comes with. I will be upgrading mine. It also has a small square of felt at the bottom, I think this could have been a bit thicker.

Other than those small issues, it is a great product. I would highly recommend it.

Excellent product. Not a gun owner- only small standing water/fire proof safe which has fitting shelves(separate order) I could find to fit space. Easy to order. Allowed for garage delivery ( extra but worth it) Came with great instructions on what to do when it arrived.

Trucking company was great. No damage coming across the country. Securely packaged. The only issue would be in the Instructions , make it known in the FRONT of the Manual that locking mechanism comes with 9 v battery which is not connected How to turn and open it to make the connection.

Even if it just said “refer to battery replacement on Page 11. Would have saved a little time. Other than that,perfect for my needs.

I have bought this model with the mechanical lock. From about 20 tryings i only could open it only 2 times. Still practice my hand. On the package is written “Made in China”, so probably i have to try more.

First Brandon Appa in sales on the phine was the best. I didnt even call to buy just some questions. He was giving me a way better deal than locally with upgrades so i pulled the trigger and he even called me back like he said he would.

The safe is is nothing but quality. Totally happy here.

RS800i. This is a great Safe, we love how you can easily setup it to accommodate your personal preferences and that it takes only seconds to do while looking professionally organized. The biometric as of now works flawlessly and fast.

Only gripe is the app, wish it were more user friendly – I have multiple devices that are secured by myself but, this only allows one device linked at least that I can see. Although you can link multiple safes (Vaultek) to the app which is nice.

The notifications are great, gives you information on your Safe even if it’s not right in front of you (only if your on the same Wi-Fi though). Great Safe, looking forward to more stuff from Vaultek.

I bought this safe with (in store pick up ) Ok sounds good it was a great deal and I wanted one for years. I NOW realize why they want to charge $300 for shipping. Upon calling about the item for pick up.

I asked the height of the box laying down ( I estimated 10 inches more than the specs) They could not provide me with a size. Second I asked when the pick up time would be best because It just snowed here on my scheduled pick up time and I will not drive my truck in a snow storm with a 500 lb safe in the back (secured).

I then asked since it was I. S. P who would help load. She said no one. After being dumbfounded a moment I said so no one will help me bring it to my truck. She says per new policy and injuries we upped the delivery charges and do not help people bring items outside or into vehicles.

Cool so my 5’7″ 155 lb self will go ahead and toss the thing onto my shoulders and load it in my truck. Not happening. So now I am stuck with no help from them other than clicking a button that the item was sold and picked up.

AS OPPOSED TO. SAMS CLUB loads it in, Home Depot Loads it in, Lowes loads it in and what do you know. so does Cabela’s and Dick’s so why is BJ’s even selling safes?? It’s ok BJ’s I am going to get a few friends and load it into my truck and bring it home.

I would rather pay them in beers and $50 each just to load and unload it with me. then to EVER pay your $300 delivery charge or deal with that much laziness. I’m over it and will cancel my membership as I’ve had quite a bit of troubles dealing with BJS them selves.

I brought this safe a couple of weeks ago and so far I’m happy with the purchase. It fits my needs. I have rifles on one side and ammo on the other. Definitely won’t fit 18 guns. I can fit 3 AR style guns on one side, maybe 4 if I just shove them in.

The optics and pistol grips take up most of the room. Total 8 then with space on top and bottom for ammo. I have space on bottom since I use one of the shelves to elevate the rifles because the AR’s are shorter.

Door has 3 pockets for handguns. Tamper detection is pretty sensitive. I’ve set it off by closing the door to the closet the safe is in. Cons, like I said, won’t fit 18 guns, but that’s pretty standard with gun safes.

Last con is there are only 2 spots to mount the safe to the floor and they are located at the same depth in the safe. So, the safe will still rock slightly even when mounted. Don’t know if this will give enough leverage to rip the safe out of the concrete foundation.

If there’s only going to be 2 spots to mount the safe, they should be offset.

I saw a chance to win in some “#sweepstakes” if did this review lol. So, anyways. it was between this one and a Liberty safe with only a $50 difference. Liberty safe was a 26 gun compared to this 24 gun hold but that was the advantage the Liberty had.

Warranties were about the same but the Wasatch came with a 2nd vault key where as the Liberty charges $50 MORE for the 2nd! This particular Wasatch has a 75 minute @ 1400 degrees over the 30 min. for the Liberty.

One more thing nobody seems to think about. if there’s a fire rating that obviously means a fire, meaning. firemen will be soaking the place with water and the Wasatch has a 2′ waterproof for 72 hours! So for my money, pound for pound this was my best choice.

Exactly as described. Good size for an entry level safe – I agree with other reviews in that it would seem impossible to get 18 rifles comfortably in the safe. Fully carpeted with movable shelving. Pouches on door are a big plus.

Was delivered on time. Would have given 5 stars but the packaging was shredded during shipping and the safe was scraped on the hinges. I had a problem initially opening the safe with the key. Customer service called me back almost immediately and was very helpful.

Not too heavy, but heavy enough. Easy to set up. I feel confident no one can steal my firearms, and I will not lose them to a fire

I gave this a one star, not because of the safe, but due to the fact it was ordered 3 times, still no safe, first one was damaged, second one just disappeared not one could account for it. Third one again damaged, so I can’t review the safe, I will say tractor supply has been very helpful and going out of their way in helping with this order.

Heavy construction with 3 options of opening, combination, key & rfid. Two power sources, battery & wall socket. The safe will fit one large pistol or two compact. A draw back is the opening lid does not open fully.

Also the weight would make it difficult to carry in luggage but not impossible. All in all a good safe.

Complex dial combo has a learning curve. Says it’s a 16 gun safe, I would say 8 long guns max, And that’s stuffing it. Very well built, Welds are practically seamless. Very robust, took the pry bars with ease.

we did not have the easiest time installing due to bad measurements on our end here in the house. Back of closet was 3/4 inch wider than the front opening! craft and finish are excellent. Extra shelves option really isn’t needed Because the extra shelves are only half shelves that span half way across the safe.

Like a 8×8 inch cub hole for ammo pistol accessories or other small items. Best dollar to protection ratio on the market. In my opinion that is. Waited and looked at safes for over 3 years prior to choosing this one.

At 485 lbs it’s no light weight, but not impossible to maneuver. Yes I would buy it again. No buyers remorse. Dial lock is what I wanted and asked for. But it’s tricky.

I spent a lot of time researching options for a safe that fit my size / weight requirements and would accommodate long guns in addition to handguns and accessories. I needed a relatively compact safe to fit in our home.

The Hollon Black Hawk BHS-16E does the job. At approximately 400 pounds the safe was manageable for two adults to move. Bolted to the floor, this safe is rock solid and won’t be going anywhere. The BHS-16E came with all shelving, LED lighting, and a preinstalled power strip.

These included accessories saved me the hassle of having to buy them separately and install. The electronic lock was easy to program and the door feels extremely solid and smooth. Finally, Armadillo Safes customer service as excellent and delivery was prompt and we’ll communicated.

We have a problem with certain wildlife around the house. The dogs let us know when the bears are getting into the trash and the cars out front. Had one bear that tried to knock on my front door at 3 am.

In the dark, fiddling around with the lock in the dark trying to get out the AR is not fun. One finger and the door is open. Can’t be grateful enough for that piece of mind.

I have two smaller Vaultek safes for the pistols but wanted the same tech (Wi-Fi, touch to open, etc) for the long guns. It’s not huge, but I was able to fit the kids 22 rifle, an AR with dual optics, a Lupo, an MRAD rifle, and a pair of handguns.

I also mounted an M4 shotgun on the door. If you get creative, you can fit quite a bit.

Overall, this safe was well-needed. My tidy little collection of firearms and important documents needed a safe place to rest. Living in an apartment had made me apprehensive about having my landlord/random staff enter my home when I am not around.

So regardless of this safe having some rusty bits and bent connecting pieces, I am happy to have a place to lock my items away. However, due to the high price of such a safe I am only giving it two stars for the poor quality of the connecting pieces and issues that were 100% unrelated to shipping damage.

I just received my safe witch was great because it came in 3 days after placing order. Safe is “light” weight lol carried it two floors to my bedroom. Everything was going great until I tried to use the keypad it seems to not want to re-set and the factory default fingerprint won’t even work smh.

Other than that just a couple mods I’m going to add that didn’t come in interior, but the price and quality it’s no big deal but man the fingerprint scanner that sucks. !?.

after researched for couple nights, this seems the best with review in Walmart website so I took the bet and ordered it. compared to my old safe, this safe has pretty thin wall so not as secured and only has 2 bolt holes on back.

but I really impressed the finger print unlock sensor, much faster and accurate than the old safe, the thinner wall is actually an advantage BC easier to move it around. At the price point it fits my purpose well so 5 star.

A very light weight cabinet, easy to move without any problems. Finger scanner is excelent, really precise. Comes with LED light which works great as well.

been looking/researching for a new safe for a while. would have been happy with a $600-$1000 models until i actually saw what they offered, thin skins and even thinner doors. didn’t want to spend $10k+ and really didn’t need that high a security safe anyway.

stumbled upon Hollon and was surprised at all the high end features at a respectable price. the door isn’t air tight but fits solid enough to feel comfortable leaving my valuables. Armadillo Safes was by far the easy choice for buying.

they didn’t “upcharge” for the lighting kit while most others did. shopping with a fellow veteran also make made the decision an easy one!.

Armadillo Safe is an awesome company and I will order from them again! The 3 stars are for the safe itself. Overall, I am happy with the safe but I am not giving it a perfect review. I know this safe is not a TL-15 but is in the higher end of the safe price points.

Descriptions and videos of this safe state that it is gray. However, the safe I received was pretty much a light black rather than a gray. There is also door wobble when shut. I thought a safe at this price point would have a tight fit.

I don’t see visible bolt-armor as described/shown on the internet so that is misleading. (No visible steel rings around each bolt). The turning handle itself wasn’t properly tightened. I had to use my own hex key to make it tighter.

Where was quality control before this safe shipped out? I am still relatively happy overall for all its other features such as fire safety and the interior. One gripe I have with Hollon Safe Customer service who I called directly after receiving this safe didn’t even want to look up my serial number to confirm these issues.

How can they be sure of the product If they don’t even take any personal information from me? I think next time I will purchase a Fort Knox safe instead when I upgrade in a few years.

This safe was sized just right for the space I had available, and sized just right for my budget. I don’t own any firearms, but I do have some cherished valuables I wish to keep safe from fire and theft.

This heavy-duty safe is the perfect answer. Armadillo provided genuinely first-rate service in the person of Maria, always available online or via email or phone, always on point and cheerful. She helped me to choose the right model, worked out delivery details, and followed up very quickly after the sale with a small correction to the shelving configuration.

Bravo! (And a word of advice: GET A LARGER SAFE than you think you need. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did. ).

Quality safe with quality control issues. Chipped paint, stripped out screws holding shelf racks and a door locking mechanism mis-aligned causing door to jam. Touch up paint sent by Mesa wrong color.

Telephone Mesa Tech Support and you get a recording with no option to leave a message. Have to keep dialing to talk to someone. You are on your own with this product.

The safe arrived on time, minor damage to the outside box, this was pointed out by the delivery company. No damage to the safe itself so all good there. There was a minor chip in whatever coating they put on the outide of the safe that was covered up by paint by the manufacturer, but that is just cosmetic.

Overall a good safe for the money. I would recommend buying it.

This is my 6th or 7th Vaultek safe of some flavor. First RS series purchase. It replaced a more traditional steel box with a fingerprint reader. The only thing I miss from that was that I could make it relatively humidity-stable.

A bit of foam gasket and taping over mounting holes and bolts. It stayed dry. I can’t do that with the RS safe unfortunately. But that’s where the complaints end. This is a high quality product that looks and feels it’s price.

The features are all useful and lacking in seemingly all other safes. Accessories cost a bit but show me a product where that’s not true. I’m more confident with this cabinet for 3 long guns than I was before.

A resourceful thief will overwhelm any barrier with enough time. But this keeps my stuff out of reach to others, but quickly accessible by me. And with a code of my fingerprints fail. Nicely done.

Shipping was extremely quick. Got here before Christmas just in time. Product came well packaged and no visible damage. I store 1 long gun, 3 AR style rifles, 3 pistols, and numerous magazines with a shelf for other things as well.

The safe feels high end and looks great in my office. Can’t tell you how much joy I get out of opening this safe. Put your finger on the sensor and the safe beeps, then opens all the way with the led lights coming on.

My only gripe is that the led’s do not stay on longer. There should be a setting within the phone app to change this at the very least. My safe is plugged in to power so they should stay on the entire duration the door is open I would think.

All in all, happy with my purchase.

I researched for months before deciding to purchase a Vaultek over any other gun safe. I looked at what my needs are versus what options are offered on each safe. Vaultek came out on top. As a retired vet, I try to look for and support any and all veteran owned businesses.

This is a very cheaply built imported “gun safe”. Description says “Unitized” 12 ga construction. Just what is “Unitized”? How bout Welded? Is it Welded? Bought two of these things, one for a gift. Upon delivery by RAC Transport, I noticed one safe had been unboxed, and the box had no bottom and simply lifted up over the top of the safe, and there was the exposed owners manual, which had been opened, and likely read.

Other box was unopened. While reprogramming the code, door was open thank goodness, the deadbolts fell into the door and jammed, while testing operation! It was a real operation getting these two safes inside the house, so I decided to go ahead and fix it myself instead of returning.

Glad I did, because upon removal of the felt covered drywall door panel, I got a real education on just how cheaply a “gun safe” can be built. The tree or bracket which holds the operable deadbolts is made of thin stamped sheet metal and is very flexy, rendering the over-hyped heavy duty deadbolts almost useless in the event of a break-in.

I could bend/flex the deadbolts over with my fingers, when they were in the full extended and locked position. This deadbolt sheet metal bracket is attached to another piece of slightly thicker sheet metal – the locking mechanism, adding additional instability to the deadbolts, with two small nylock nuts, in slotted holes, (which were loose and created the original problem – which I fixed), I could flex (or bend) the whole bracket, deadbolts and all with my hands, using light to moderate force, pulling the deadbolts out of their holes.

The handle lock also has a double nut tensioning device which was also loose, which I re-tensioned and tightened. This should prevent someone using a pipe or breaker bar on the exterior handle, in an attempt to break the interior lock.

But it would cause the owner problems if it’s loose as mine was. If the door had been locked, the handle was too loose to open the safe. I have a welder and many options for making these safes very secure, and it’ll be a fun project, but that’s what I would expect from a $200-300 locking steel container, not a safe from Mesa Safe Company, who has a good reputation.

Additionally, the felt covered gun racks that this small box came with, were just in the way. An assortment of rifles with optics, and others, would fill it up with about 8 guns max. and that’s really working at it.

This safe needs one rack across the back of the box, with two smaller sidewall racks up front, and one shelf up top for pistols or ammo. I realize the provided racks are removable, so if I remove, then what do I have?.

I feel that Samsclub. com needs to address these issues with Mesa Safe Co. This safe is being advertised as a good heavy gauge steel secure burglary/fire safe, and it is NOT.

The safe itself is great at the price. I shopped everywhere and for the money it’s about the best deal you can get. The steel exterior is pretty thick compared to the typical safes you find in that price range, such as Stack-On and Sentry.

If I remember correctly, I think it was 12 gauge steel. The interior space (volume) is large and you have a lot of room to put stuff inside. I would say the safe is 5 star but am rating 4 because of the issues I had with service which made me have to return it.

So anyway, I ordered the “All Shelving” interior setup and was very disappointed to see the “Gun Shelving” interior setup. I also ordered the manual combination lock but the combination provided did not work.

I even tried decreasing and increasing the increments as suggested because sometimes the setting gets jarred during shipment, but nothing worked. They apparently sent me a combination for another safe.

They obviously didn’t test the combination prior to shipment! The motion of the combination dial was smooth though and it has a visually appealing metal finish for the dial. The exterior box was a mess and all taped up (but not something to make a big deal over).

However the box had the All Shelf interior checked off. So my theory is that someone went off the box description and attached the wrong combination. (???) When I called Mesa directly to see if they had a combination on file, I kept getting voicemail (even during their business hours).

At that point I was contemplating still keeping the safe despite the wrong shelving. Ultimately I decided to return it back to the store for a full refund. At least returning to store you get an immediate refund.

Later the same day after I had returned the safe Mesa called me back, lol. One last tip. If you are picking up from store, you will need a truck or van (obviously) and at least two guys (that aren’t wimpy) to help.

You will also need a dolly, aka hand truck. If this is going up a flight of stairs you will need at least 4 men and use extreme caution. This thing has the ability to kill or seriously injure someone if it is dropped and lands on them.

I called and did my research before I bought it. Many safe can be opened with a powerful magnet and this does not have that type of digital lock. Look at videos online about how to open a safe with a magnet and you will understand.

Criminals will do their research on how to open digital safes so you must be informed. The unit has an power strip inside and a removable plug out the back of the unit. The 2 backup keys look like double sided skeleton keys that would be very hard to pick.

The safe can be moved with a standard dolly and is about 350lbs I would guess. The shelves are not full depth so there is room to put a couple rifles or shotguns in there too. This is an intimidating look and feeling safe with heavy steel.

I purchased this because of my girlfriends son who has problems. If he finds the safe he won’t be able to get into it without much help. I bolted it down to make sure as i dont want someone just dollying this away.

I purchased this safe because it was tall and I knew that if I had to kneel down to get into it I would probably not be securing my valuables as often as I should. I am very pleased.

My husband loves this we just purchased it for him for Christmas.

My safe was backordered due to covid shipping backlog I was kept informed of the shipping date. It was well packed and undamaged. The safe is working for me as I had hoped it would. Armadillo is a good company.

I’m very happy with the safe. The lights are a must. Only thing I was disappointed in is that I thought the usb was where I was able to put my external back drive in and leave it but no way to run the cables through the safe.

I bought two of these and they are horrible. Both open fine with the key, but not with the combination. I took them both apart to check. The issue for the first one is that the servo that opens the lock doesn’t even work, period.

Enter the code, it accepts it, nothing happens. The second unit’s servo was wired backwards, such that when it tried to “open” the lock, it actually spun the other way and was just banging against the mount.

For $99, I figured it should at least work, but I’m 0-2 with these and won’t even try to replace them at this point. I’m actually quite shocked at all the good reviews people have given this. I may be willing to try a third, but I definitely won’t be leaving the store without putting a batter in it to make sure it actually works.

PROS: Does what it is intended to do. It will not prevent a well equipped/motivated thief from taking your gun, but it will prevent kids, guests and anyone in a hurry from getting at it. This little lockbox fits everything from a snub nosed revovler to a full size 1911 and everything in-between.

Even had no issues with a weapon mounted light. Mute button to silence the keypad. LED light stays on long enough to grab the gun. Like the ability to program a 6-digit code and change it if needed. CONS: The 4 included mounting screws are worthless.

heads strip with very little pressure. Do yourself a favor and get some good hardware from a trusted source. It does not accommodate extended magazines. 10, 12, 15 and 17 round magazines in a 9mm – no problem.

7 & 8 round magazines in a. 45ACP 1911 are good to go, but not 10 round. 45 magazines. Overall This is a solid purchase for the price. I am OK with a double action revolver (9-10 lb trigger pull) or a semi auto with manual safety being put in with one in the chamber, but would not recommend putting a semi auto without manual safety in with one in the chamber.

In my opinion it would be risky as the foam could potentially catch the trigger on the way in.

The thing I like most about this is the low profile. It fit very nicely on a night stand next to the bed without taking up a lot of space. Very easy to use and opens quickly if needed. One of the things I don’t like about it is the noise it makes when opened, but I can live with that.

Also I agree with some of the other reviews that it was a pain to install. Also the battery is going to be very difficult to access when it needs replaced. But over all I like this drop down safe. It’s convenient, quick and easy to open.

I’d buy it again.
