20 Best Cheese For Macaroni (2022 Updated)

I have always been a fan of Annie’s mac cheese but I had never tried the microwavable cups until recently! Since I often find myself busy, I like to have something convenient on hand to make sure my stomach’s desires never go ignored.

These are the best. They taste really good and they’re really easy to make. My only reason for giving four stars instead of five is that my mac and cheese cups always have this mix of a strange gooey consistency at the very bottom.

Likely an unavoidable piece of it being a microwaveable meal but it leaves a strange aftertaste and takes away from the overall “experience” just a smidge.

What’s not to love about this macaroni cheese? I like to keep it on hand for quick, no-fuss meals, and it’s also good to keep a stash for emergencies. The best thing is, it’s NOT orange! (There’s just something wrong about that orange stuff, right?) I was very happy to find that Annie’s is made with 100% real cheese, organic pasta, and has no artificial flavors, synthetic colors or preservatives.

It’s still may not be the best choice for a healthy meal, but it is definitely a better choice. It’s easy to make, which is another plus, and we think the flavor is better than the orange kind. The price is good too, and found at most grocery stores or online retailers.

It’s a win-win situation all around. Very happy with my purchase, and I highly recommend this product to others.

This variety is not my favorite of all the different Annie’s products that I’ve tried. Personally my family and I found this to be bland, not a lot of white cheddar flavor. It wasn’t horrible but it was pretty bland.

This brand is a bit more expensive, and they do have some tastier flavors, so I would recommend other flavors from this brand before this one.

My Family and I have compared many gluten free rice based noodles because rice based pastas are quite heavily consumed among my relations due to high rates of genetically based gluten intolerance, which is precisely the market this Annie’s gluten free Mac and Cheese was created for.

These Annie’s gluten free macaroni noodles are a high quality texture as far as rice noodles go but if you overcook them they will turn to mush very quickly just like any other rice macaroni so keep your eye on the pot and the macaroni will be a balanced easily digestible texture within minutes.

I don’t know why Annie’s recommended cooking them with so much water but I ignored their instructions because my 30 years of experience with rice macaroni and noodles of a wide variety of brands assured me that the macaroni would only need to be covered with about a half an inch to an inch of water on top so that is precisely how I cooked them and they turned out well.

Amy’s makes a very similar frozen gluten free rice based macaroni and cheese which is simpler to prepare in a microwave and the cheese is preferred by some people though I think its really a matter of taste and the gluten free noodles in both Annie’s and Amy’s Mac and Cheese are very similar in texture.

Amy’s also make a vegan variation of this gluten free Mac and Cheese. Overall I feel Amy’s brand is more socially and ecologically conscientious and therefore I would prefer to support Amy’s if possible but the Annie’s is fairly popular and does put out ecologically sustainable and responsible organic products.

As a vegetarian who does not use rennet enzymes from animals under any occasion I contacted Annie’s to be sure there were no animal enzymes in the cheese of any Annie’s product and they told me to check each individual box to assure myself that each box was free of animal enzymes.

And I then set aside boxes of this gluten free macaroni for my gluten free relatives, who are always grateful to get some variety into their diets. I would recommend adding a little fresh onion, garlic, pepper or tomato and spice to your own taste if you’d like a little more nutritious vitamin content and fiber in the meal.

I haven’t had mac and cheese for 2 years. I have IBS, and can hardly eat anything without medication. I decided to try Annie’s because it has a much lower fat content, even when prepared. I am not particularly sensitive to gluten, but very open to gluten free products.

I am grateful to the other reviewer that mentioned to cook the noodles for an extra 5 minutes, it was very necessary. Could even cook a bit longer than that. They have a nice chewy texture, large noodles.

The cheese powder is nice, you can taste the real cheese. Best eaten FRESH out of the pan. Even going back for seconds, it has cooled off enough to change the texture. Looking forward to trying regular Annie’s to compare.

Gluten-free and very tasty. Contains plenty of cheese. Pasta cooks fine, though it needs the longest time suggested and maybe a minute or two longer. No artificial colors, flavors or preservatives, although contains annatto which some people may prefer to avoid.

Milk comes from cows not treated with rBST which is good. Not organic though. The pasta is lower in fiber than most other rice pastas which is fantastic.

When I saw these at the shelves I of course did an Iroll because the market already has plenty of organic options and I thought this was just another one. Nonetheless I added some to my cart just to give it a try since we are trying to feed My 6 year old cleaner stuff.

He won’t eat the box macaroni and cheese but he’ll eat the craft stuff in a bowl that you pop in the microwave for three minutes. We tried the macaroni and cheese one and he loved it. His favorite was the shells and cheese one.

Mind you this kid will not eat boxed macaroni. To make things even better, my husband is not a macaroni person but he loved the macaroni and cheese one. All in all these are really good products and we will be purchasing more.

I saw these on social media and thought I’d pick up a box when they finally made their way to my local Target. I was nervous about taste especially when the noodles and cheese sauce are mixed. It’s orange.

And not light (Kraft) orange. I knew the kids wouldn’t eat it. But… I was surprised that my kids devoured this Mac and cheese. They love it!!! It’s their new “summer lunch request. ” High fives all around for the sneaky veggies, legumes, and good stuff that tastes good.

Buyer beware. I DO NOT recommend buying from them. Go to Target and buy the product for cheaper. Target charges $2. 99/box. This company scams and rips people off. They’ve lowered their prices if you subscribe to a 12 pack you can get it for $2.

97/box- a whole $0. 02 cheaper than in Target, but if you don’t want to subscribe or buy a 12 pack you pay more than just buying it individually in Target. Customer service is lacking, they just keep saying the same thing but do nothing to resolve a complaint.

I highly recommend against this company.

My son is a mac and cheese connoisseur, this seemed like something everyone would eat so I’m not making like three different dinners. And we all wanted to like it. But. son said meh, it’s okay but it’s airy? and husband found a small piece of green plastic in his so he was OUT after that, he also mentioned it tasted like velveta and both said it was gritty.

But they’d be willing to try it again?? So I don’t know what to do with that review. I thought it looked delish component wise, real cheese and nice pieces of bacon. I really think I should have baked it instead of microwaving it, maybe that’s where the weird texture thing came in.

sigh. I’d probably buy it again though and test my oven theory. I think that would make for a taster dish.

This mac and cheese is delicious! The bacon is plentiful, the pieces are thick, and the quality was better than I expected to find. The noodles are the perfect shape because they hold up well to all the cheese, and the cheese and bacon are able to cling to the noodles so every bite is fantastic.

The noodles are firm too, and I liked that they held their texture well and didn’t get mushy. We baked this, as that is what the directions call for. This tastes like homemade mac and cheese to me. I didn’t find any weird textures or chemical flavors.

I think it’s priced a few dollars high for what you get, but all prepared, packaged food comes with a cost of convenience and it wouldn’t stop me from buying it again.

Wow. I could just leave that onw word, but that’s not what you’re looking for! This dish really surprised me. I have always made my mac n cheese from scratch, but it can be time consuming. This is a game changer! Not only is the mac n cheese delicious, it’s got BACON!! It was creamy, the noodles were perfectly tender, and the flavor was on point! I could easily bake this and transfer it to another dish and serve it as my own! This will be the perfect staple item to keep on hand for those night when you want real home cooking without the hassle! The portion is perfect for my family of 4 and it’s kid approved! My daughter is a mac and cheese connoisseur and she gave her stamp of approval! :).

Once in a while, we all need that nostalgic, warm tummy treat from our childhood. It’s just a shame that Kraft has ruined that. It’s not the new cheese powder. that tastes fine. It’s the noodles. What has Kraft done to the noodles? I checked the expiration and it was fine.

I bought another box from a different store, and still the same horrible taste, like old dishwater or some chemical that has been sitting in the garage for years. Gross. Inedible. I’ll buy the other brand that costs a bit more, but tastes like the old mac.

I am so used to traditional cheapo mac and cheese I wasn’t sure I would like this. I actually really enjoyed it. You actually feel good after eating this, like your body isn’t processing a bunch of crap it doesn’t need.

The favor is quite mild, but still cheesy. It mixes up the same way as traditional would. You don’t get as much in the box and it is a bit more expensive, but to me I think its a reasonable trade up bc you are getting a better quality product.

I ended up mixing in about a half cup of shredded cheese to make mine a little more cheesy. I also will sometimes add meat or veggies for a more complete meal. This is a very good, ingredient conscious pasta product that I would recommend to anyone.

The only store brand lazy mac and cheese my entire family consumes!! Easy cheap and delicious!! Nothing more you could ask for, noodles never turn to mush and the white cheddar flavouring is far better than that orange stuff.

I will always buy this again and again 12/10 recommend!.

LOVE THIS MACARONI SOO MUCH!! When I was a kid this was all I wanted (with cucumber on the side) it used to come in a black box so I thought it was discontinued for a few years and when I found it a again it is always in the cupboard for lazy days! Got my fiance hooked to and my family even buys them for us as a joke for xmas/bdays ahah (like I am a forever kid) Would reccomend it!!.

Quick, easy and delicious. Presidents choice white cheddar macaroni is always a crowd pleaser. It has great real cheese flavour, I don’t feel like I’m eating anything processed. I always go back for more.

Typically, I can go a couple of years, at least, without purchasing any kind of instant noodle/pasta product, knowing that they tend to be really unhealthy and, as a, uh, curvy girl with health issues who isn’t getting any younger, I have to be careful.

I have been dabbling in these kinds of instant products just a bit as of late, though, after having realised that, at least now, some really aren’t all that bad. This instant pasta, for example, has a nearly fully green nutrition label, and it actually doesn’t taste all that bad – you can definitely taste the leek and the ham as well as the cheese.

The package explains how to cook the pasta in 2 different ways, but I have a confession to make: I didn’t follow either way, LOL. Indeed, I simply emptied the contents of the sachet into a container, and then mixed in freshly boiled water and let it sit for several minutes to allow the pasta to cook.

Admittedly, the pasta was only very nearly completely cooked – you need to cover the container for it to cook fully, which I hadn’t done myself at the time. The instructions also call for milk and butter, but I didn’t bother with this either, though I’m certain that they would make the sauce just a little richer.

Though the recipe could do with an update, overall, it’s not a bad little instant meal.

I have tried out the batchelors pasta chicken and mushroom flavour and find it quite nice. Normally i only have tried pasta with tomato and cheese with other companies i. e tesco and sainsbury’s but this makes another great option.

Soon as i mixed in kettle water i found the smell of chicken flavour wetting my taste buds. When eating also there was lovely taste of the mushrooms. I will definitely buy again and recommend to others.

This is so convenient. There’s days when u need a quick filling meal especially on a cold winters evening and this meal was perfect. Such a generous portion aswell and very filling. Literally took me ten minutes to make and eat.

Very tasty can’t wait to try again.

It’s from kraft!!! is the only reason I got it in the first place. I’ve always loved macaroni and cheese but now I eat totally plant-based. Besides the fact that it’s not whole wheat or good for me in any way shape or form, I still love it.

the first time I saw it was online at Walmart. com; and those cute little packages sold me right away. Then I realized how easy it was to prepare and it only used one bowl and one spoon to do it! I had been sick for several months and couldn’t eat anything, I was staying alive on vegetable broth.

I ordered some and you can say it saved my life. It was the only solid food I could eat and I hated eating it because I am plant-based but I had no choice. and since I am 5’11” and weighed 131 lb. So I kept on and on and on and on.

See where I’m going with this? if you have never tried it it’s like all the other Kraft products especially wonderfully and magnificently delightful. you have my word on it if you are not happ1y with it send it to me I’ll buy it.

Next time you are at the grocery store, just check the instructions on the box and you’ll see that it’s different than the original. The wacky shapes usually use the Spirals recipe too. Notice that regular maccheese says ‘original recipe’ under it.

That stuff is junk compared to the Spirals. The people that don’t notice the difference don’t eat much mac cheese. If you’re deciding which flavor to get, get the spirals. The people who say it doesn’t make as much must be talking about volume, because the boxes are all the same by weight, 5.

5oz. The spirals just tend to pack more together after they are cooked because they don’t have the hollow center. It’s the same amount, but it takes up less room on your plate and is way more delicious.

No one would claim that boxed macaroni and cheese is even remotely gourmet or healthy, but it’s become a staple for kids and adults seeking comfort food. However, no other company seems to be able to crack the boxed macaroni formula like Kraft has.

Other brands are generally gross, either having the wrong texture, flavor, or both. Kraft’s manages to be surprisingly cheesy and creamy without having a plastic or gummy texture — a miracle when you realize that it all came from a powder.

Even if you cut the amount of butter by 1/2 it still tastes great. The pasta cooks much faster than most pasta, and you can easily have dinner on the table in under 10 minutes. The only real downside of the Kraft macaroni and cheese is how dry and gross it tastes if you try to reheat leftovers the next day.

Honestly, if you’re used to Kraft brand mac & cheese, you’ll probably notice a slight taste difference, but it’s nothing major. Great Value brand is a little less cheesy & you will notice that it takes a little longer for the cheese to mix into the macaroni.

Not a huge deal. My kids eat it whenever we make it. Overall not a bad product. I compared the ingredients to Kraft & it’s the EXACT same, just in a different order. If you’re looking for value, you’ll definitely want Great Value, because it costs at least 50¢ less than Kraft or other leading brands.

I just don’t understand why they recently changed the material used to keep the powdered cheese, it’s now plastic instead of paper like it used to be. I’m curious as to why they did this? Costs between 50-60¢ per box at Walmart.

This is also a brand that you’ll only find at Walmart stores.

How exactly is this brand of Mac and cheese bad again? I got a box from every Walmart in my state, they all taste insanely good like they did since 2013. If anybody reads this review, people are just writing false negatives cause they got nothing better to do.

im so sorry if you are one of the unfortunate people to have come across this mac and cheese. this was such a disgrace that it doesnt even deserve to be called mac and cheese. to put that in my mouth felt like a degradation.

eating this pile of shame made me feel barbaric and loose my sense of humanity. i could feel my happiness slowly slipping away with each bite. no amount of salt and pepper could mask away the humiliation that this dish presents.

not even my trashcan could enjoy it to the slightest. whoever thought this was a good idea to put out into the world should be ashamed and they need to rethink their actions for they’ve dishonored mac and cheese.

Delicious! Whenever I’ve pulled it out, someone (from my kid brother to my roommates) has always commented that it’s their favorite. Great toasty, cheesy flavor without being overwhelmingly salty. Comes together relatively quickly and even without following the instructions to a tee, I’ve always been able to adjust or simmer it down to a thick, creamy sauce.

I guess you can split it into two servings, but one and a half with a little leftover for later is even better. Cute packaging too, but don’t trust the “while you wait, call this number for a fun story” bit, it’s just the generic Kraft customer service line.

Also, the little push tab on the side does nothing, the pasta barely comes out.

My toddler is obsessed with Annies Macaroni And Cheese Shells Aged Cheddar Mac And Cheese 6 Oz Box! He would probably eat it for every meal, in fact he asks for it at breakfast as well. Delivery was swift! I ordered a 72-hour sample pack and a few other items to sample. The mac and cheese is fantastic! Used a little less water than suggested. Cooked a few minutes less than suggested.

Added a pinch of salt and some pepper. Shared it with a friend. We were surprised at how good it was, considering we were expecting something like a ration pack. We’re also impressed by the coffee. It doesn’t have that metallic taste most instant coffee does.

Plenty of kick to it. Seems to pair nicely with all the food so far. I’m very satisfied so far and I’ll be ordering again.

So I read the directions, put water into a pan, more than likely a lot more than the 4 and a half cups it calls for. When I put it into the water, I figured it would probably come out extremely watery, So Guys, get a measuring cup trust me on this one.

It’s boiling right now so I will finish this review after I taste it in 10 more minutes. Ok, interesting, 7 minutes left i went to stir it and ALL of the water was gone and the noodles n cheese started baking.

I added a little more water with 7 minutes left. I really thought I put to much water in. Use the 4. 5 measuring cups. I’ll be tasting it shortly. Ok 5 minutes left out of 20 minutes on low heat. I just tasted it and OMG it’s way better than the boxed mac n cheese you buy from the grocery store! If this had a 10 star rating I’d rate it as an 15, but i guess this one gets 5 stars.

I bought this to put away for emergencies, but tried one of the packs. It was very simple to make – no milk or butter required. I thought it was coming out watery, but the sauce thickened after taking it off the burner and letting it sit for a few minutes.

It’s a paler yellow than what’s shown on the package, but still had a nice cheese flavor. I made it for just my mom and me, but there’s enough in one pack to feed several people. I’ll be stocking up on more of this.

Listen… I do NOT typically eat microwavable mac n cheese. If its not baked & sticky I usually dont want it, but this right here? Its so good and so quick! It’s a great starting point to make it your own.

For example, I put it in the oven for 10 mins on 350 (take it out the plastic container because it started to melt). Add seasonings… mine were garlic powder, Tonys spicy creole, and pepper. Put it in the microwave for another minute and its perfect! Next time I will add seasoned shrimp and maybe sprinkle a little extra cheese on top and pop it in the oven for a little longer at the end for a baked seafood mac n cheese feel.

I have no idea why my brain thought this needed to be frozen but I did and that was dumb, because it definitely takes WAY longer than 5 minutes in the microwave 😀 Good news! Despite thawing and cooking in the microwave, this is shockingly delicious! It has an excellent very cheesy flavor, and the fact it has butter and milk can be tasted.

I bought two of these and made a baked mac and cheese for my family (Side note: Please don’t put plastic in the oven). My toddler is a mac and cheese connoisseur, and he approved! I baked it in a 350° oven for 35 minutes, stirring once halfway.

I served it with air fried broccoli and everything bagel seasoning (also Target brand, highly recommend as a topping). I know there is a lot of sodium and fat, but it’s mac and cheese. live a little.

It’s rich, creamy, and filling. It would be good with a little cheese sprinkled on top while baking.

I received this product as part of a promotion, and consumed it when I was running late for work and needed something quick and easy. Just fill with boiling water, wait 5 minutes and it was ready to go.

The powder mixed easily and the pasta cooked well (just 1 slightly hard piece). The taste was very similar to the packet mix, but a tasted a little bit watered down compared to this. Still, for something quick, easy and tasty it’s good to have one stashed in the cupboard.

Its easy. Very good for children and senior citizens to do own their own with a good warm little it. of help if any help at all. Like me. I am 71 yo and would rather use the microwave instead of a stove.

The original is still the best! This is what I grew up on and my kids love it. This particular size is perfect single serving size for the kids and as a single side dish. We keep both the 7. 25 ounce boxes and the Kraft Easy Mac Original Macaroni and Cheese Dinner 18 Microwaveable Single Serve Packs available all the time, as this is a family favorite.

The combination of these two sizes is perfect. We have tried larger sized Family boxes, but these have proven too large- perhaps in a few years (the kids are 10,7, and 4). We have tried some other Mac and Cheese varieties and we always end up back with the original.

The 7. 25 ounce x 35 count bulk box is a great price for a family classic and the single serve Easy Mac is ideal for a quick lunch for the 4 year old or a snack for any of them with no waste. We always have both on hand.

Love love love. I dont get it often but I have had it lots of time. Its good and quick snack while you are home quarantined! I love the product no complaints. Very affordable product. You can find just about anywhere.

Ok, so I confess to heating up a whole family size of macaroni and cheese for myself. Lol did I think or plan on finishing the whole thing? No, but it was very tempting. My body simply cannot manage that much food tho.

I put it in microwave for 5 minutes and then on nonstick foil in air fryer for about 15 at 350”. I threw in a couple of turkey hot dogs for meaty goodness. I love crunchy cheese and it crisped perfectly.

I like to play with foods by adding items and different cooking techniques. The large container was a perfect size for me and I was able to put it back in with the hotdogs. The only thing I had to wash was a spoon.

I am a person who makes their own mac n cheese. However if for some reason I don’t want to take that time. I do enjoy Stouffers Mac n cheese. Does it taste like mine? No. But it is good! I enjoy it! There is also one with white cheese and bacon in their fit line I think.

That one is BOMB, taste restaurant quality. This is good for a quick meal. Better than any of the box crap.
