At first, I was beyond excited to see Knorr making a risotto dish in America. I lived in Italy for a year and would often buy the Knorr risotto sides at the local grocery stores there. They were all amazing (The Risotta Alla Zucca was my favorite though)!! Every time my wife and I visit Italy, I literally fill up a suitcase with Knorr’s risotto.
So, I was shocked to look at the ingredients and see that they were using the wrong grain of rice for the dish (long grain rice). The rice used for a risotto is a medium to short grain rice. This greatly affects the final product and my Italian friends would be offended that this dish is advertised as “risotto style rice”.
Is it possible to at least use the correct rice for the dish?? Or you can just ship the Knorr Risotto sides from Italy to the US :).
My family has the most hectic of schedules. We’re all going different directions all the time, so easy to prepare foods have always been a staple. I grew up eating boxed meals that require little extra effort to prepare, so I guess you could say that I’m an expert! We sometimes have Knorr products in the house, but when I had the opportunity to try some of the Knorr Selects with a BOGO coupon from PINCHme, I decided what better time to expand my horizons.
The process is just as simple as any other easy side dish product. Cooking the pasta was a very familiar process. I feel that with anything of this nature, taste is not necessarily the most important.
The sides do taste good on their own, and pair well with other basics like chicken. It’s just something easy to have in the pantry. Nothing extraordinary, but I’ll still go back and purchase more for the ease.
This is the first time we have had risotto rice of any kind. Over all I would say it had good flavor. I was surprised to see it needed olive oil to cook. Luckily we had some. While we enjoyed it, I am not sure that we would buy it in the future.
It had a really strong Parmesan smell when it was first opened, which i liked but I could not taste the Parmesan in the cooked product. It did cook into a nice creamy rice which was different for us.
I followed the directions but the rice was still tough, I guess I needed to cook it longer. Other Knorr rices we make can be done in the microwave which saves time in cooking and clean up. Not this one, they only provide stove top directions.
I assume that it would not taste good if cooked in the microwave. Kids did not care for it, but I have yet to find a rice recipe they like. Overall I would recommend it to someone to try, especially if they like a creamy, slightly cheesier rice.
I would eat it, if it was served but I would not go out of my way to buy it. I do enjoy other flavors of Knorr rice sides though. Sorry for the poor photo, but it gives you an idea of the final produce.

I don’t think you’ll go back to regular Romano after trying Pecorino Romano! I admit I do purchase a half wheel, cut and wrap at home and freeze in smaller amounts so it doesn’t grow the uglies lol!.
I was sadly surprised that this Romano cheese tasted awful. It seems to have taken on the taste of the plastic container it is packaged in. When I used this cheese in my 4 cheese pasta, the flavor of the whole dish was changed irretrievably so I had to toss it in the trash.
Nobody wants to taste plastic when they eat something that should be flavored like delicious cheeses and pomodoro sauce lol what a waste of money (kinda a lot)!.
Has a very strong chemical taste. Ruined my Alfredo. Very disappointed. Normally I grate my own and should’ve done so this time as well. If you have a way to grate your own buy the wedge (different brand) and grate it instead.

This rice is great. It’s extremely easy to do and the outcome is amazing, delicious and it is so convenient. This is a great alternative to the Boil in Bag rice, they both take the same amount of time to make (soft rice) but this does it better.
You don’t need to watch it unlike the bag one, you just mix it, boil, cover and wait. This gets a 5/5 from me unlike my 4/5 for Boil in Bag. Boil in Bag is great for a one person dinner, however watching it and the time it takes isn’t all that great.
This on the other hand is great for that as well, you just don’t have to watch the bag. I recommend both Boil in Bag and Original Converted, but overall I suggest picking this one up first, depending on your situation that is.
This rice has to be toxic. Stinks worse than finding a body decaying for a month at the back of a hog farm on the hottest August day. You can literally taste the metal. I usually donate unopened food I don’t like to the local soup kitchen but this must go in the trash.

Every single flavor of this brand of rice is delicious. EXCEPT the Spanish style. I personally love Spanish style rice, and this isn’t a review about authenticity or anything like that. For some reason, this particular flavor ALWAYS tastes of plastic.
