20 Best Chemical Hair Straighteners (2022 Updated)

I was super excited this Shine Therapy Argan Oil & Keratin 2 Inch Flat Iron from Remington recently! I had been hunting for a new one for myself but hadn’t found the right one for me yet. The Flat iron arrived super quickly once it was shipped and on its way to me.

Once here, I was extremely relieved to see that they had packaged this flat iron inside of another box & also protected it from being tossed around during shipment, which I really appreciated. No one wants to receive a broken product, so they did great.

The packaging for the flat iron itself was super easy to remove the flat iron from. It was a nicely decorated and very informative box. I really liked how they had so much good information on the box & used that space with all that information instead of leaving it blank.

I never get to brag on a products packaging, so this is very nice. It even shows the size of the straightener on the box! You never get lucky enough to see an actual picture of the hair tool on the box this simple & clear, but it’s truly almost a full size picture of the flat iron itself.

It’s very nice to see everything good about a product on its box, that way I’m not googling the answers I want to my questions about the product. The beautiful flat iron is a very sleek looking flat iron.

It is an off-white color all over it, with a very pretty sparkly silver top panel that runs the entire length of the top of the flat iron. It has the Remington Shine Therapy logo in the center of the top and nothing else except the light up mini temperature screen that’s on the top of the handle.

My favorite part about this flat iron is the swivel cord! Not many other flat irons have this and it’s such a disappointment when they don’t. I also like that this heats up from 300 degrees for fine hair, all the way up to 450 degrees for very thick hair, and everything in between for all hair situations.

So it feels like I’m getting a custom flat iron made just for me each time I use it. Oh & the way the Ceramic plates are set in the flat iron, gives it a smooth pull against your hair. Especially with the fact that they’re conditioned with the Argan Oil & Keratin.

It’s really good for your hair. It does help make your hair shinier & smoother. Honestly this is a great flat iron if you’re looking for one. It’s not super expensive, it’s from an amazing brand that we all already know & love, plus it’s made from great quality materials with a swivel salon length cord! It’s a very safe flat iron with an easy to use hinge lock & auto shut off.

It’s truly salon quality without it carrying that huge salon pricetag! I highly recommend it. You and your hair will thank me later!.

This flat iron has a lot of great attributes. First, the 2” width allowed me to flat iron my hair much more quickly than my old 1” flat iron. That got me out the door in half the time than I usually would need.

Second, the digital display and directions made it easy for me to choose a proper heating temperature. Even though the recommended temperature was lower, I opted to use 400 degrees Fahrenheit for my hair which worked perfectly.

Third, there is a locking mechanism that allowed me to keep the flat iron closed after styling. From a safety perspective this was well thought out and appreciated! The only downside I came across was in the positioning of my hand on the handle.

I found that I was unintentionally and unknowingly pressing the temperature increase button while styling my hair, which brought the machine all the way to 450 degrees before I realized it. Aside from that mishap, the product works great and is a good purchase.

I think this is the fastest heating flat iron I have ever used. My hair is curly, frizzy and tangles easily. I prefer my hair straight as a pin. Most straighteners help but never get all the curl out.

I have has the most success with this 1″ straightener. I am not sure if it is due to the Argan oil being infused or the technology. Regardless, I am so happy with how well it works. The cool down time for the straightener is fairly quick as well.

The cord is plenty long. The placement of the on/off and temperature settings are out if the way. I can’t tell you how frustrated I get when they are right where my fingers sit so I end up changing the temperature or shutting it off.

Not with this. It is balanced well, the weight of it does not feel heavy or awkward in my hand. I prefer the thinner 1″ wand over thicker ones. I can control it easier as well as use it to style my hair straight or with waves.

I almost forgot to mention the handy clip that keeps the unit closed when not in use. What a great feature. No need to wrap ot closed in the cord.

No outer package of this set. Straightener was made in Japan while neutralizer was a product od Thailand. I don’t know whether they come from one set. And also, I could not get any information on its expire date.

However, this product worked. My hair get straighten after using it.

It is not a real Japanese straightening but a relaxer / hair removal cream. The smell of my shaving cream is exactly the same. I had to cut half of my hair after using these products. Don’t waste your money buying this product, your hair will thank you for it.

This is heaven sent. I don’t have a really curly hair or whatnot, I just wanted my hair to be more tamed, since it tends to be too poofy when dry. This definitely did the trick. I love how my hair turned out.

For anyone wanting to try this, be really careful and know your hairs health.

Received this on Saturday and today was second time using. It’s already made a noticeable difference. My hair is softer and for the first time in a long time, has shine. I’m a product junkie but have struggled to find anything that really worked well.

My hair was not damaged from over processed or heat but thyroid, age and going to a vegan diet. It just because straw. I had purchased so many high end products to combat it. This one looks to be the winner.

Will try the shampoo next!.

Did the whole process with the help of my daughter. It took about 3. 5 hours from hair washing, Best application, wait time, rinsing out, applying moisturizer, rinsing, blow drying and smoothing with flat iron.

It’s a big process but I now have smooth, stick straight hair. I have not washed it yet so I’ll see how the smoothing holds up. I have frizzy, curly hair that shows up differently every day. I’m hoping the GK keratin treatment will help keep my hair smooth and shiny more consistently and with less work.

I have very curly thick hair and it is not easy to straighten. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the Revlon Extra Long Ceramic Flat Iron straightened my hair. Its light weight and my hand does not get tired during the process.

It also has several different heat settings, which is important for curly hair. My hair type requires a very hot flat iron to get all the curls out. Their is minimal hair loss from pulled hair, which is inevitable.

Overall this is a great product and I highly recommend for long curly hair. It works well for me and keeps my hair straight until I wash it out.

This flat iron is amazing. It is very lightweight so it’s easy to take anywhere with you. It heats up quickly and is easy to use. I love the different heat settings so I can adjust it depending on what I need to do to my hair.

My hair was left smooth and there was no frizz or damage from the heat. It has an automatic shut off which is great. Many times I am in a rush and worry that I left things on. Now I am more at ease knowing it will shut itself off if I forget.

My hair stylist used this in the past on my hair but can no longer get it locally. Last year, we tried another product and it did not straighten my hair at all. We ended up doing a reverse perm. That worked, but not as well as the BioIonic and it did not last as long.

I found this on ebay and purchased it for my latest straightening. Great results-almost too straight! Just beware, make sure you do not color or use any other chemicals on your hair about 10 days before you use this product.

I colored my hair once before the straightening and the hair on the top of my head broke off. What a mess, nothing like having little hairs sticking straight up out the top of your head! Also, a lot of people said that the smell was only bad on the first step.

I think the smell is horrible on both steps and for the next 72 hours when you can not wash it. May be very hard for those that are very sensitive to smell. Takes a couple of washings to no longer smell the formula.

Oh. the cost to look good!.

Bio iconic retex: I am Indian, mid back thin hair. Tight Waves but not curly. Only hair near my temples and ear has a single tight curl and then rest of it is wavy. Never colored but have been professionally relaxing/straightening them for 7-8 years ( once a year ) I got a Coppola keratin treatment professionally done at a really fancy place one month ago and it didn’t do anything to my frizz or smoothen my hair texture even a little bit.

It probably added a little shine which last for 3 washes! The entire keratin look faded in two weeks. I don’t know how or why. I washed it after 3 days on the fourth day and used sulphate free shampoo and conditioner.

I gave up and just decided to do this at home because I spent my entire paycheck 300$ on the keratin treatment and got nothing. I also don’t know how to section my hair or flat iron my hair at the nape of my neck and behind.

i usually just do the sides and the hair that frames around my face. I shampooed and applied a John Frieda heat protection hair spray on the last two inches of my hair(edges). I applied cream 1. I struggled with the sectioning so just put the products avoiding my skull.

I didn’t put it on the ends about 2 inches. i kept it for 25 min and applied the product on my ends and near my ear and temple and kept it for one min and showered. I didn’t want to fry my ends. I know they get really fried even when I flat iron them! I blow dried using my hands and a paddle brush.

I applied John Frieda spray again on the ends and flat ironed it. I struggled with the sectioning just did my best and somehow got done and made sure to flat iron hair framing my face. It wasn’t poker straight it wasn’t a good iron.

I couldn’t do it I really tried but couldn’t. I used her styler flat iron (25$) I didn’t use it on highest setting(500) because when I did it sounded like it fried my hair so I used it at 250. I applied neutralizer for exactly 9 min on a timer application 4 min and left it for 5.

Washed and blow dried. It looked pretty straight almost 90% of my waves were gone. I did flat iron the hair near my face just to make sure! Final result for someone who doesn’t know how to section hair or flat iron properly was pretty damn amazing.

It took me one hour and 7 minutes total. It didn’t smell weird I just used it in my bathroom and it didn’t make my eyes water. They look really good and have a little shine, didn’t fry my ends, and it’s strange but they feel so natural.

It’s not poker straight like professionals do but I blame my flat iron skills for that. They are very straight and very natural and I didn’t lose any volume which is pretty cool. Definitely give it a try.

Even if you don’t have any one to help you. I managed it on my own and the results are great. Trust me you will be fine. Total cost was 55$ for retex 30$ and ceramic her styler flat iron for 25$.

If you are like me, you are reading this wondering if you should buy it or not. I am telling you to place that item in the cart! I have naturally tight curls. I am Italian, my hair is not coarse, it is super soft and springy but my gosh is it ugly.

I technically had virgin hair because I have not touched it with hair dye in 2 years. I straightened my hair after every shower so I had breakage on the ends. ( my hair was not salon perfect). I used this and only these 2 bottles and it turned my hair absolutely straight.

My suggestion is to use a blow dryer while the first cream is sitting in your hair. Test your hair first and then see how much damage it leaves if any at all. this product made my hair more soft, shiny and life like.

So everyone is different. I can say I would see this doing some damage if your hair is constantly being dyed. Best of luck!.

I had a perm that was curled very badly by a professional hairdresser. I had tried many products as well as trying to cut the frizzy curls out but the more ways I tried, the worse it looked. I then saw this permanent hair straightener on eBay and decided to give it a try.

The instructions were easy to follow and the lotions were easy to apply. The results were amazing. My hair was straight and in superb condition in just over half an hour. I wish I had found the Wella product weeks earlier when I was feeling so disappointed with the permed look.

I would definitely recommend the product to anyone who has a similar/same problem.

This product worked really well! The only drawback is that it smells bad (as most perm products do, so that’s to be expected). I definitely recommend opening a window or two while applying this. It left my hair really shiny, soft and straight, so I’m super happy with it :).

My natural hair is coarse/frizzy so it’s very difficult to manage in the humidity. I always wanted to try keratin but never have since I heard how toxic the fumes are and that some people get allergic reactions to them.

My daughter loves NuMe and suggested I try this after seeing this was a natural alternative to keratin. I read the other review before buying, but still can’t believe how great this works! Complete game cahnger for me.

The only downside is the time it takes to apply – but a few hours for weeks of smooth hair is definitely worth it to me!.

I’m a woman with curly hair and I’ve been struggling to find a way to tame my frizzy curls. I tried everything from expensive hair straighteners to salon treatments, but nothing seemed to work, until I found this! This easy-to-use home treatment has been the best thing for my hair in years.

I bought this because I was looking for an alternative to the multiple layers of heat required by the keratin treatment. Keratin treatment not only requires blow drying before I put the treatment, but because the liquid itself makes the hair feel a bit damp, I would need to dry again a bit more to avoid the horrendous damage that comes with flat ironing damp hair, especially at the keratin-requested temperature of 450 degrees! Yes, I have thick frizzy hair.

So i decided to skip the entire blow drying, air-dry it instead, put the treatment and go straight for this wet to dry iron. I fell in love!!! First the steaming holes facilitated the steam-release that the keratin naturally requires.

Second, it did not require more pass through than my usual iron on already blow-dried hair. Third the fact that it did not reach 450 degrees did not minimize the results; in fact the results were better than I’ve ever had !!!! It was straighter, suppler and shinier than it ever was with my previous much more expensive high heat flat iron!!! Before my hair would show friz on the second day, even after paying over $100 for a professional to do my keratin treatment! But not this time.

My hair felt and looked healthier, in fact someone literally asked me if it was a wig, it looked so good it seemed fake. Also, before there was a white film on my hair after the first treatment, making the hair feel stiff, a bit sticky and dull; but with the Remington, that wasn’t the case: it was soft, with movement and shine; 2 dropps ofmy usual combing dry oil and I did not feel the need to wash my hair the day after the treatment; instead, waited aa week and i could have waited longer- it looked fabulous throughout.

I’ve been treating my hair for almost 10 years, this is the best post keratin results i have ever experienced, and it is all thanks to the Remington. I believe these steam holes are the best things to happen to a keratin treatment.

Love it, love it! As for the technical part: delivery was on time, and i love the fact the blinking light has a specific color to let you know when to use on damp hair, and when to use on dry hair. Make sure you follow the indication; online has a quick, very short and straightforward instruction manual, it is worth the 2 minutes of read.

That indicator became helpful when i wanted to do a touch up. I’m actually going to also buy the larger one; I’m never buying another iron, THIS IS IT.

I absolutely love my new flat iron that also allows for the ease of doing my hair while it’s wet. What a time saver it has been for me going to Nursing school & Work! The quality is excellent. It has air holes allowing it to vent and express steam and dry your hair while it is wet or damp.

I set it at 300 temperature and it takes 10 seconds to heat up so it’s ready to start straightening right away. However it does take a bit for it to cool down. The iron is a great size for those of us that small irons aren’t enough.

You can take a whole big section and it flattens easily and looks great. So bigger sections also allow for getting done a lot quicker. No need to take small sections to get a great look. I love the 360 swivel of the cord that keeps it from getting tangled so easily and creating a short life for the iron.

You can use both hands without constantly trying to move the cord out of the way. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great innovative flat iron that’s efficient, great design and creates great styles.

Best flat iron ever!! I’ve had a few through the years. I didn’t think one brand could really be different from another, but I was wrong! This “wet to dry” one really takes any residual moisture out of your hair and keeps it from frizzing or curling up after using.

NOTE. I do not use it on wet hair. I do use a hair dryer to dry it, and it’s usually frizzy, curly and wild after I do. However, this Remington works a nice smooth, flat miracle on it. The plates come together nicely, no gaps.

Closing and using the flat iron is very easy on my arthritic hands. Very happy!.

I bought this to replace my old Keratin Complex straightening iron. This is a newer version. A lighter in weight. Works just as well. Best iron I ever had. No frizz. You can control the temperature. Fantastic price.

I cannot believe what I received in the mail today. This is a very expensive flat iron that I splurged on and decided to buy from Walmart because they are a huge retailer. I did not want a fake or stolen iron.

I opened the box today and this flat iron was obviously purchased somewhere else, as there was a scraped off, old white price sticker on the back. That was the first sign of a problem. Then I opened the box and saw that the iron was not in a new condition because it was out of the packaging, loose in the box.

What was worse was when I actually looked at the plates of the iron, they were scratched, used and had probably months worth of dried hair product on them. I am so very shocked that I was sent an item like this.

I immediately took it back to the store for a refund. I won’t be buying anything on the site again.

I promise you this is the best iron you will ever buy. I’ve had the stealth IV iron from keratin complex for 4 years and I can honestly say I have never used a better iron. It is a professional iron and definitely gives a shiny and smooth finish to your hair.

I am left without frizz and with softness after using this iron and I have dry, frizzy, curly hair. The stealth V iron works even better and I’m so happy I bought it again. Definitely recommend to everyone, so happy my hair stylist recommended this iron to me a while back.

I have tried many hair straighteners, from Paul Mitchell, chi and many others. This one has works the best by far. I was able to lower the heat, which I had to max on the others. I have super curly, thick hair and it gets the job done, quickly.

I only have to go over each sections once! The cut the damage from my other tools off and have been using this one. I haven’t had damage, I paired this with the heat shield. My hair is soft, straight and curly if I want it curly.

I used this to get the Curls out of my hair. No real instructions came nor plastic gloves. I used the 20/10 procedure, applied the 0- straightener, worked it well into the hair, I left it on for exactly 20 minutes, rinsed in luke warm water about 5 times then applied the balm left it on for 10 minutes, rinsed 5 times then shampoo & conditioner Results: What looks like silky Asian hair.

Not one wave or curl in site. WOW! Very impressed. Hoping the smell washes out in the next shampoo. It did not damage the hair.

I could not be happier with this product! I spent an OBSESSIVE amount of time watching and reading reviews between the bio ionic, GHD, and T3 and finally took the plunge on the one pass bio ionic. I have dry, frizzy, and coarse hair and this tool does the trick every time.

My ends don’t look ragged anymore and there is crazy shine and bounce. In fairness i always prep my hair with a heat protectant and usually round brush it on days when I’m feeling ambitious, but even when i use it on my natural hair it does not disappoint.

Bio ionic allows the temperature to be adjusted so you don’t have to go full heat on days you just need a touch up. Again, couldn’t be happier!.

This is my first time using a steam straightener so I wasn’t sure if my hair would accept this type of straightening because I have naturally wavy hair and I was afraid it would make it frizzy or curly.

But after doing a little research, l found out that the main culprit of frizz is actually a lack of moisture in your hair. This straightener releases just the right amount of steam to help maintain a higher level of moisture in your hair shaft as you pass the tool over your hair without leaving it wet.

It gives me pin straight hair, without looking flat and lifeless. I find that the steam facilitates more even heat distribution, which really cuts down on straightening time. I have long fine hair and one pass gets my hair totally curl-free.

It takes me less than 20 min to straighten my hair and it lasts me perfectly for days even in humidity. It comes with an integrated comb that can be taken out, but I prefer to use it with a comb because I like how it separates my hair and helps keep it in place so each hair gets perfectly straight.

It’s a bit bulkier than a regular straightener making it a little more difficult to get a consistent wave when you use it as a waver, especially if you have short hair. There is a cold protective barrier that prevents you from getting too close to the roots, but this is not an issue for me as my hair is mostly straight at the roots.

Plates are smooth and flexible and I find that they provide closer contact between the plates when the iron is closed, so you don’t have to make several more passes on your hair than necessary. Also, I love the long cord because it makes it easy to hold and use.

I bought this straightner with high hopes that my curly thick coarse hair can be straightned into sleek smooth and shiny mane with less damage. Not sure how it is working for others and how genuine all the youtube videos are, but for my hair it’s causing more damage by pulling the hair all the time.

The plates are 1 inch but there is a casing around these plates for the steam to pass through. The hair is getting stuck on that casing and breaking the hair. Tried removing the comb and using it but still the same issue.

I could see the hair breaking. Immediately switched to my previous straightner to finish styling and took the steampod back to the store. The staff member tried it on my hair which has already been straightned before I stepped out and obviously it was gliding without pulling.

Also the section was straightened without going much closer to the roots. So apparently it’s something that is not an issue with the product so cannot be returned or exchanged. I have requested them to wet a section of the hair, dry it and then try the steampod on curly hair to see how hair is pulled out but I got the answers that you have to section and straighten the hair and that the hair should be completely dry.

I have been straightning my hair for years and know how to work with a flat iron. Such a disappointing experience. After you save money hoping to get something better for yourself but purchasing a much worse product that is causing more damage.

Have to be stuck with it because of terms and conditions without regard for customer experience. Money down the drain.

I have been using this relaxer for over 10 years. It always leaves my hair smooth and silky without burning my scalp. Recently I have been unable to buy this in any of the hair stores in Birmingham which is a big city in the UK.

Even the online uk shops have sold out of the regular and tell me they haven’t received any new stock in a long long time. Is your company still exporting to the UK? Or am I going to have to risk my tresses to another company like ORS.

I started using Creme of Nature relaxer when the store I usually buy from did not have the brand I was looking for. All they had was Creme of Nature, regular so I bought it. What a blessing!!!! I was losing gobs of hair trying to comb it out after shampooing and conditioning.

Was using Pantene shampoo and conditioner for years. Then came Creme of Nature with Argon oil. Their relaxer, shampoo and the conditioner with this Argon oil in it saved my hair! What use to take 30 minutes or more to comb out my super tangled hair out after shampooing now take all of 5 minutes.

The comb glides through like freaking silk! I then wrap my hair around my head and let it air dry. My hair is past my shoulders. Now, after months of use my hair is back and has gotten longer and stronger.

Yes, I still wrap and tie it up. The Argon oil is magical on ethnic hair! Love it, love it, love it! Good bye Pantene and Gentle Treatment relaxer forever. I was going to go buy a wig because I almost gave up.

Needed a relaxer to straighten my hair and the price has gone up on other site I purchase from. Found it on eBay for reasonable price and product is still the same. The box had a little damage but relaxer itself still intact.

The shampoo and conditioner on the other hand were only half full. Have not used it yet so I hope this is real.

I used this product on my thick,coarse, hard to manage hair. In less than an hour I have smooth, soft hair that is easy to style. Apart from the slightly chemical smell that remains until the first hair wash, there is nothing negative to report.

I hardly write reviews but think it’s silly people are telling others not to buy a product because it didn’t work FOR THEM. Matrix Opti Smooth in Resistant is the only straightener that DOESN’T break up my hair.

I have received compliments on how much healthier my hair looks and am actually able to get it to grow longer. Please please please keep producing this product as nothing else works for me. Traditional lye and no lye relaxers burst my hair up and stuns it’s growth.

Matrix Optismooth makes my hair straight but it is also healthy feeling-thick, smooth and strong. I also smells way better than other hair straighteners. If your stylist just watched a 4 hour video for the first time and does your hair with this, if you have a lye relaxer or other chemicals in your hair and overlap the Opti smooth with other chemicals, if you have no business using thio or if you just don’t follow directions…perhaps that is why this product didn’t work FOR YOU.

It doesn’t mean it can not work for someone else. Also, that’s what strand tests are for so you can see how it interacts with YOUR hair before doing your whole head. Your stylists didn’t follow directions if they didn’t do a strand test and have you go home THEN come back.

I truly hope this product stays on the market as it is my only go to-fingers crossed.

I have been doing these smoothing system and others for over 20 yrs. This is the best one on the market. Clients have healthy smooth frizz free hair. To all the review I am reading that say their hair is frizzy fried broken etc and that the stylist followed directions and still had bad results.

This is not your regular smoothing system like keratin/ brazillian blowout etc. There has to be a lot of knowledge of how to do and who not to preform this service on. It cannot be done on anyone with highlighted or color treated with over 20vol peroxide.

That will break and fry the hair. Hair has to be virgin or only colored with 20vol. Even if they color over the previously highlighted hair it will still cause damage. So Important that the stylist performing is properly consulting their clients hair history for the past 2/3 years.
