20 Best Chew For Dogs (2022 Updated)

I have three dogs. Rocket, a husky-shepherd mix, and Hans, a German Shepherd, are both young and don’t have any issues with their teeth. And, I want to keep it that way. Oliver, a puggle, is 5 years old.

He was showing some plaque on his teeth, even though he eats both soft and crunchy food. I started giving all of them these brushing chews a couple of weeks ago. Not only do they all love them, but Oliver’s teeth are noticeably cleaner, and Rocket and Hans both have whiter teeth.

Every morning after breakfast, I ask “Who wants to brush their teeth?” and the three of them come running. Great Product. Another reason to trust the Milk-Bone name.

I noticed a bit of tartar build up on my 2 year old staffy’s teeth even though she is a chewer and gets bully sticks and other hard chews often. It didn’t look bad enough for a visit to the doggie dentist, so I figured I’d give a dental stick a try.

She hates Greenies, so those were out. I didn’t have high hopes from a MilkBone product, to be honest. But I figured the reviews were good enough and the price was right if she didn’t eat them. She LOVES them and looks forward to getting one every evening! After about 3 days of getting them, I checked her teeth and the buildup was virtually gone! Definitely recommend trying these!.

this review is mainly for the packaging. my dogs love the treats but about the last four or five bags when you tear where you’re supposed to tear the bag still doesn’t open. so I have to use scissors every time and about half the time the bags reseal mechanism doesn’t work so I have to put it inside some expensive Ziploc bags I bought or else they will get hard as a rock if you don’t keep them sealed.

evidently they have no quality control at the factory.

The chew has a lot of calories and is too thick. My dog loves it, but she shouldn’t eat that much in one sitting. But, when I tried to break it into pieces it shattered because of its thickness. Once it shatters, it no longer is a chew and she woofs it down, which is concerning due to some sharp edges.

Take this review with the grain of salt, I have to be really picky about chews for my dog due to a long standing mouth issue that vets have not been able to identify. So I end up trying lots of different types of chews to try to find something that’ll allow her to do her absolute favorite activity.

She never chews on rawhide. Most alternatives disappear quickly so I’m still searching for that long-lasting chew that’s not made of rawhide and is thin enough to not hurt her mouth. It breaks my heart when she gets a chew and after a minute or two she lays it to the side and puts her head down and looks so sad because she can’t continue.

I bought these to keep my corgi occupied while I work, since the back claimed that “You can rest easy knowing that your pet can enjoy Nothin’ to Hide Rawhide Alternatives for hours, safely and reliably.

” Well, I cannot argue the enjoy, nor the safely. But these last 10 minutes before being gone entirely. Trying to find something for an active, intelligent chewer and sadly, this does not meet the bill at all.

I knew these small things wouldn’t last long but I thought at least a few minutes. They seem to be somewhat crunchy in that they broke as my dogs ate them instead of like a more chewy stick. They are larger than I expected them to be so I don’t think they’d work for a tiny dog.

I’d say maybe a 30 lb ish dog might be ideal. They were a nice quick snack for my 50 lb+ dogs who like stick shaped treats. I just thought they’d last a smidge longer. They look “good” and don’t have any odor (not even of PB).

They also don’t have too many calories which was what we were looking for.

I bought these sticks because my pup’s favorite sticks were out of stock at the pet store. I bought because they are a rawhide alternative. Nothing to Hide treats are advertised as “long lasting. ” They are anything but long lasting.

My dog ate it in less than 2 minutes and he is only 13 pounds. My dog likes them but gave he him smelly gas. I probably will not buy again.

One of my dogs is a Collie and predisposed to dental issues. I had been feeding both dogs a name brand chew, which they liked, but I did not like giving them something that contained artificial ingredients.

Plus, the name brand chews didn’t seem to clean their teeth or help with bad breath as well as advertised. I did a lot of research to find a better option and discovered the OraVet dental chews. One thing that sold me on this brand is that they are accepted by the VOHC for tartar control.

I bought a bag and gave one to each of the dogs and they enjoyed them. We even did an experiment one evening by holding one each of the name brand chew and an OraVet chew out for the dogs to sniff and they chose the OraVet chews! Plus, these take a bit longer to chew so they have more time to work.

I can see and smell obvious differences in my Collie’s dental health that weren’t there with the name brand chew. OraVet dental chews are the only ones I’ll buy from now on.

This dental chew does give my dog nice breath for a bit but it’s fairly temporary and I’m not convinced it’s done much for my muppet (but I might be wrong as explained below). I probably won’t repurchase these as I have better results from actually brushing his teeth (at the expense of his love for me) My dog, who can be a brat about treats, absolutely loves these.

Unfortunately, he also has a finicky GI and if he eats too much of it, he pukes. And let me tell ya, the size for large breeds is HUGE. So I have to cut this into very small pieces and only give him a few at a time.

Maybe that’s why I’m not seeing results but at the same time, if I give him an entire one he vomits so… It is a very sticky dental chew and I highly recommend giving this treat on a hard floor. I made the mistake of giving this to him while he was in his donut bed and to this day, I’m still picking out green pieces from his bed.

However, I do believe the stickiness of it is necessary so the medication can stick to his teeth and gums to do it’s thing (I might be wrong, idk I’m not a scientist).

That was the reaction that both Pinto and Hazel had to these highly recommended treats from the vet. I even tried peanut butter in the center groove to entice some action. There have been two of them tossed around the house for over a week.

I think the product is an excellent tool for dental health only if appealing enough to eat. Maybe OraVet should get onboard with peanut butter or a meat flavor that dogs might enjoy. The vet said these are better than brushing the teeth.

Only downside is that it only imparts benefits to the back teeth since they do not chew with the front teeth. That is an even compromise if your dog will eat them. I am withholding 1 star based on flavor choice for dogs.

These will be donated to an elderly friend. Perhaps her dogs will enjoy them.

i have 4 adult borzoi and its hard to find anything that they all like. but clenz-a-dent rawhide chews are a huge success around here. i have to keep them on a top shelf in the pantry, or else the dogs would steal them and eat them all! i pass them out every couple of days.

the dogs grab them out of my hand and retire to their respective favorite spots in the house. for 20 minutes it is very quiet as the chewing proceeds. no one leaves the tiniest scrap of these yummy chews.

not only are these chews yummy, but they have also eliminated the need to brush their teeth—never a fun thing to do. our vet has noticed a positive difference in their teeth, which she attributes to the chlorhexidine.

i will be buying clenz-a-dent rawhide chews again and again. entirelypets has a great price on them, too. whats better than finding the perfect product at the perfect price?.

You might want to check out my review on the other major brand of rawhide chews for a product comparison. I have a Cocker Spaniel and he likes both major brands. This brand overall is much thicker and heavier than the other one.

I think larger dogs or heavy chewers would prefer the Clenz-a-dent because they would last a bit longer. These chewies are enzyme-treated to “help keep teeth clean” and I think they may chew up a bit faster and easier than plain rawhide.

Keep an eye on your dog when he has a rawhide treat-sometimes your dog will try to swallow it when the rawhide is still too big and then you have to pull it back out. Bottom line: I think larger dogs and aggressive chews would like Clenz-a-dent over the other brand.

Other than that, the enzymes and treatment are the same.

I had been using Virbac CET Chews, but they were out of stock with no indication of when they would be in stock again. I called our Vet (a local animal hospital) for their suggestion for a substitute, and they recommended the Clenz-a-dent Chews.

They seem to be very similar products. I actually ordered 6 bags and am very satisfied with the results. (Dog is a German Shepherd and could probably destroy steel rebars. Loves the Clenz-a-dents – 5 stars from dog.

My dog absolutely loves these . He is a miniture Jack Russel and I go for size small . Highly recommend these as I buy two every month or so . Great for keeping dog occupied and keeping teeth clean

I’m pretty picky about the rawhides my dogs get, these rawhides have no flavoring or coatings and they are simple rolls- which is what I was looking for! I had been buying these from the local tractor supply until I found them here.

My Heeler mix makes short work of these, but he’s a super chewer so its expected. My other dog likes to hide her toys, these are big enough that when she does hide them they’re easy to find. These do a wonderful job of keeping my kids teeth clean too! Definately recommend if you’re looking for a simple, clean, no BS added rawhide.

Side note- I go with the rolls vs. traditional bones because my dog likes to try and swallow the knot pieces when they inevitably come off of traditional style bones and the rolls eliminate that risk.

My dog Lily, who’s about one year old, is more or less obsessed with the Chewy bones. When I ask her if she wants one, she smiles and jumps. I’ve come to jokingly calling her “bone head. ” I don’t know if Chewy makes 10 inch bones with flavors, but if they do or will, Lily will surely become addicted.

Our 25 pound Goldendoodle LOVES these chews. They don’t leave a mess on the carpet and they keep her busy for a relatively decent amount of time. My only concern is that she does finish them in one sitting, but it doesn’t seem to bother her digestion.

Tasty treats satisfies chewers glad they have rabbit options. My dogs just love these you can break them apart also to use as crunchy treats plus they will last longer that was I recommend you try them for your pooch! Ty.

We got these for our 10 week old puppy, who is now 13 weeks and he loves them. We got these the deer and duck and the moment they came out of the box he was trying to get on the couch to steal them! I hate the packaging, it’s a pain in the but to get off even with scissors and they are more like jerky than a bone and only last about 3 minutes when I give him one.

I was hoping they’d last longer, but thankfully they are great to give him when we put him in his crate to leave or in his room for the day and he doesn’t feel like he’s being punished. I also have used them as a distraction, holding it in one hand and brushing him with the other.

Otherwise he’s trying to eat the brush the whole time. I definitely recommend them, but be aware they don’t last long!.

My german shorthaired pointer LOVES her Etta Says chews. She crunches them down pretty quickly. probably 3-5 minutes? I like that the ingredients are easy to digest & a healthier choice to help keep her teeth clean.

I also like that they are wrapped individually so I know they are fresh when I give her one! =) Will be tying these on top of fellow pet lovers doggy presents & stuffing in doggy stockings this Christmas.

I rated product at 5 stars because It comes very highly recommended by a canine dental expert plus my dog chews on them and appears to enjoy it so far after about a month. I don’t know what product(s) to attribute to good dental health so far though.

I’ve been most concerned with maintaining the best possible dental hygiene for my Maltese who I got as a puppy at 3 mths old; Tallula weighs a little over 4 lbs. She is very slow to cooperate with all maintenance (dental, brush, ears, nails, eyes).

She puts up with slow repetitive maintenance efforts only when I coax with treats frequently while moving extremely slow. I pace all efforts with the exposure curve over time (not all at once in a day).

Teeth brushing has been super slow and painstaking. I wouldn’t even know how i was doing if not for having the vet check her teeth out at last appointment. Thankfully her teeth look excellent at 1 yr 3 mths old.

I was told problems often start after 2 yrs but vet has seen many before then too—especially with toy dogs. I have tried many dental products now. She has been resistent to/won’t eat Greenies in mint or blueberry; Refuses to accept Tropiclean gel; Won’t drink water with TropiClean Fresh breath additive; Won’t allow toothbrush past her tongue/Instead licks off the poultry flavor Enzadent toothpaste which she likes (not much brushing of teeth/gums).

This product was tried in combination with other dental treats to see if she’d chew. She likes them so far. I break in half as treats are for up to 11 lb dogs. If i give her a whole, her poop is more runny.

Still experimenting with her but grateful she really chews at this and it was the no. 1 rec by the vet/dental specialist I trust. I’m also giving her 1 ARK Naturals brushless treat for dogs 8lbs and under.

She loves those but if i give her 2 in a day, runny poop. So I do 1 of each and I keep trying the tooth brushing to see if over time, it will become easier. I don’t do brushing everyday but I give her at least 2 dental forms daily.

I also sprinkle Plaque-off powder on her food daily. I was warned by all the maltese breeders and by vets to care for her teeth. So, I’ve tried to address it in many ways simultaneously to maximize success.

I have two large German Shepherds. They love nothing better than running to the pantry spinning three times and asking for their “toothbrush. ” I always order two bags at once. On my last order, there were some large and some extra-large mixed together.

I know the difference because I tried the Large ones for a while especially when my youngest Shepherd I got at 6 months old was still growing. My dogs met the FEDEX delivery guy at the door today anxious to get their toothbrush.

I noticed the extra-large were considerably smaller medium and large mixed together. This is not Chewy’s fault. Virbac is disappointing me both in size consistency and a considerable increase in cost over the last few months, and I may have to search for a more size-appropriate option for their favorite treat.

I would have loved to show a picture of the difference and typically I don’t run out, but this time I got side-tracked with work and the previous bag was empty.

My dog loves these, and he’s a bit picky. They keep his teeth pretty darn clean, and that’s worth the money since he hates having his teeth brushed. I’m not too sure why some people are complaining about the size when there’s so many different sizes available.

I even saw one review where someone complained about them being thick, and then immediately followed that up with a complaint about the thin ones not being adequate enough?? I mean, they’re an organic product.

They’re not synthetic, so the thickness and size is naturally going to vary. They soften up the longer they’re chewed, which is the point. You don’t want them biting chunks off and just swallowing. That defeats the purpose.

Overall these are worth the money. Just manage your expectations and be realistic.

These bully sticks are awesome! We got them on a whim, and after desperately searching for something for our Goldendoodle that was both safe for her to chew and would be cost effective enough to be worth it.

These were buy far some of the cheaper ones and they have been amazing! Our girl is obsessed with them! We have not had a single one break and the only time we’ve needed to take them away is when they’re small enough to fit completely in her mouth.

Each one has taken her roughly a week to get through and she’s a pretty aggressive chewers. These bully sticks have been a God send and have saved out fingers, wrists, ankles (anything! you name it) from being terrorized by our Goldendoodle turned baby shark!.

These rabbit treats are a burnt orange color(probably a very low grade vegetable glycerin as a good quality is clear) and smell strongly of chemicals with a hint of plastic. For something that states it’s a limited ingredient these do not seem like they are.

I’ve tried these treats with my own personal dogs that are not picky. They would not eat unless mixed in with other treats. I’ve tried these on 5 training dogs in a low stim, solo setting along with dogs in my group classes and all of them spit them out except one voracious lab but after a few she even turned her nose up to them.

Possibly a bad batch, but I would not buy again.

I bought these treats in all flavors because they are limited ingredients. My puppy eats a raw diet and it is difficult to find limited ingredient (1-2) treats that are not freeze dried. They must taste pretty good because my puppy likes them and she is kinda picky.

The only thing I would change with these is the actual treat size. They are pretty big for my small puppy. I have to cut each treat in three pieces to make sure she doesn’t choke. I wish I could find a 1-2 ingredient treat that is not freeze dried, but comes in small training treat size.

My 3 pooches love these. I have small babies (under 12 lbs & 5 lbs). I first gave them the smaller sized bones (skinny ones) recommended for their weight, but found they sometimes got choked on them.

Also, they run with them playing “the chase me and take away my bone game” and I worried about them cramming the bone into their throat. So I moved up to the larger, fatter bones. They can still get their mouths around the bone and the bones last much longer.

I still watch them closely when chewing these bones.

These bones are awesome. Takes a while for my dogs to eat them. They are not rawhide so they are healthy for the dog. I used to buy them at the local store, and the company discontinued them everywhere.

This is one of the few places that I can find these bones. Not sure what’s going on with the manufacture but so happy to still find them. They aren’t cheap. But worth it for an occasional treat.

I bought these to help with my dog’s seperation anxiety. Unfortunately the package has almost no directions for use, only a weight chart. It doesn’t say if you’re supposed to use them daily or as needed, if you should feed them right when your dog gets anxious or some amount of time prior.

I have tried experimenting with giving them to my dog at different times and so far have not noticed that they calm her down at all. She does at least like to eat them. #sweepstakes.

My dog and I were moving from Las Vegas to Texas and he was extremely uncomfortable and anxious be in the car for so long. I stopped off in New Mexico and picked these up because a store team member recommended them and the rest of the ride he was so clam and relaxed.

I continue giving him them now that we’re in Texas because he has anxiety being in a new home. These are literally a life saver. Couldn’t have made the trip without them.
