20 Best Chicken Coop Heater (2022 Updated)

This is the perfect light to keep my birds warm in the fall time temperatures and damp nights.

Easily height adjustent (hanging loop) keeps the temp right without a lot of fooling around.

Got what I paid for. It worked great for my baby chicks!

Yes they do here they had a rather spa area very well i. e. if you have a small office or a small kids room or nursery type around This will be great. But if you have a larger room you’re going to find only about 8 x 10 of it gets really warm and the rest of it’s pretty much still cold it’ll probably be a few degrees cooler about wet 10 to 12 feet away from the heater for us as whatever the heater set up.

They are quite safe though and they do heat up very fast so if you want to heat up a small area very quickly wonderful and if you need the ability to put it on some thing it’s a wonderful little heater for that.

Mine will be going back because I need to heat bigger rooms.

My last space heater bit the dust at the end of winter. I like to be warm!! This is a cute little heater that packs some heat!! I am hoping I do not kill this one this winter. So far, so good.

Works wonderfully with a thermostat to keep my ball python from getting too cool.

Perfect for my ball python! She is in a 50 gallon (I believe) and her temp is perfect!

Heated up immediately, now my bearded dragon doesn’t have to be under a bright light 24 hours a day. He seems much happier already!

The Mr. Heather 45k BTU does exactly what it claims to do. It throws out intense heat in 540 degrees. The lower assembly says cool, which is what you want but also what you wonder is it does. Considering the amount of heat displaced.

I searched for a good outdoor patio heater that offered some versatility and this is it. Whether its displacing heat everywhere or angled to throw heat in one direction, it does a great job. There’s not a huge difference between the Low, Medium, and High settings.

It’s basically; hot, hotter, and even hotter than hotter. Its easy to select what you want. Its a little difficult to read the dial when its on because you have to lean in to the heat. They should have made a way to read it from the front of the knob, but it does click in position so you can listen for the click once you are familiar with it.

The numbers on the knob is not a deal breaker because the quality and output of the heater more than makes up for that.

All I need to say are the facts! I have a drafty garage, door has gaps round the sides and the mandoor has a gap at the bottom a small horse could get under! Anyway, even when it’s – 15 degrees outside, this little heater can heat up the garage (not insulated at all) to well above freezing, after about an hour the inside temp was up at 8 degrees.

Considering the lack of insulation and the escape routes, this is amazing! I highly recommend. It’s easy to mount on the propane tank and of good quality!.

Like all the Mr Heater products the heat is great, but the build value with plastic parts is of poor quality. If you camp a lot you will like the heat provided by this heater. The problem is the unit is wrapped in thin plastic parts around the unit.

They don’t take much to cause cracking. The unit will still work but on a camping trip you usually are less than gentle with outdoor goods. The unit still works well but expect a few broken or chipped parts before the season is over.

The best part is the electric start. No loud clicking to start the unit. The other nice factor is the unit does hold an additional second bottle of propane for your use after emptying the first bottle of fuel.

The unit performs similar to how previous reviews explain. The unit works by burning propane through a ceramic tile with small holes throughout the face. The tile than heats up and then radiates heat outward.

There is also substantial heat that rises off the top of the unitl (as youd expect from a burning heat source). The unit is a direct fired radiant heater, meaning the combustion fumes come in contact with the air its heating.

So its very important to have makeup air through an outside opening if using the unit in a small space. The unit will over come the heat lost caused by the vents. Otherwise without vents, it eventually burn all the oxygen in an area and you wont know it until its too late.

It works great on Hi, but makes crackling noises on Low similar to if the wind was blowing on the flame or the gas is getting low. Makes me think that the unit might not be burning effectively on low.

I dont think its burning rich since I dont smell propane in the exhaust fumes, but still makes me a little uncomfortable when using it as a tent heater at night. My guess is its from lower propane pressure on the low setting which causes an uneven distribution of propane across the radiant ceramic tile.

Therefore the top of the tile is continually being ignited and extinguished. To help ease my mind while using it as a tent heater at night, I bought a portable CO2 detector, and made sure my tent had both low and high vents to provide means for oxygen to enter and fumes to es.

Bought this heater for hunting trip this October. It rained, hailed, snowed and froze gallon water jugs outside overnight. This little heater kept us warm and toasty. We did use it in the back of a Jeep (where we slept) Just make sure to crack a window so that it can get fresh oxygen, if not it will shut off as a safety feature.

Kept us warm and toasty. We did not run it at night while we were sleeping. Started right up without issues. The high setting was enough to roast us out of the back of the jeep. We only has to run it for a short while to take the chill off.

For a 9 day trip, we used just over 3 portable tanks. We did buy the Mr. Heater adapter hose to hook it up to a bigger tank, but we did not need it. We used that hose for out portable propane stove instead.

Went back and forth between the Hunting Buddy and Buddy heater. Decided on the Hunting Buddy since it had the extra storage compartment for a spare tank. Great buy!.

I wanted to make sure my chickens had a safe space to warm themselves if the temps in my area got into single or below freezing and this does the job. I like the fact that it has two heat settings high and low (I think they call it something else) and I can change it between the two depending on how cold it is.

It has two options for securing by either hanging it up using the two hooks on the back or the feet. We chose to use the feet to secure it to the dog kennel I put out for them to stand on to look out their window.

We used a 2 by 4 that’s about12 inches long underneath the kennel’s ceiling and screwed the heater in place with two construction screws thru the kennel ceiling and into the board for a very sturdy heater so it won’t tip over.

So far it’s working perfectly and my chickens like to sit in front of it and it doesn’t get too hot so I know they won’t get burned. This product does exactly what I want it to do and I know my chickens are happy and comfortable with it; in fact as soon as I got in screwed into the kennel/board they immediately went to check it out.

This is a excellent heater to help your flock from getting frostbite, on their combs, wattles, and feet. We have it plugged into a thermo cube thermostat, to auto kick on at 35-37 degrees, then it turns off at about 45 degrees.

It works perfectly like this! This heater is not a heater that warms a chicken coop room temperature up. It’s not made to do that. It produces radiant heat to cooler areas. It’s just the right kind of heat to keep your chickens toasty roosting, on a cold Winters night.

Or, to come in from a chicken run, and warm up, during a cold day. We mounted it on the coop wall, near the roost bars. Happy hens, and Roo. We don’t have to worry about them getting frostbitten, or the danger of heat lamps.

Which create too much hot heat. Then your birds go out doors and can’t regulate their body temperature. Remember, they hold over 100 degrees inside their feathers. They don’t need a hot chicken coop.

Just to keep them draft free, with plenty of vents, and take the chill off the areas that can cause frostbite. Yes, it’s warm to the human hand touch, but not hot to a chickens body. They’ll roost on it, if on the floor.

There is no way to control the temperature of this brooder other than switching from brooder to heater. I do like that it can be used as a coop heater if ever necessary; however, it is way too big for the brooder tub I have.

When it is horizontal like a brooder, the chicks get on top and poop all over it. We ended up using it more in heater mode to keep them warm. I would not buy this again. I would buy a heat plate with temperature control to maintain appropriate temperature based on age.

I also would want it to be smaller and have a dome on top so the chicks can’t get up there and poop on it anymore. I’ll probably end up buying one like that elsewhere, then I’m stuck with this dud. By the way, I paid much less for this earlier this year.

I would definitely not pay current price for it as it is not worth it!!!.

I really like the idea of this brooder/heater – it has a much lower fire risk than traditional heat lamps and it uses less electricity than bulb heaters. However, it just doesn’t get the job done in anything less than ideal environments.

I brooded some birds in the fall and the ambient temperature hovered in the 40s for most of the time that I used this heater. This heater simply didn’t provide enough heat for my chicks, even when they were underneath it.

I think this product has some merit as a brooder for very young chicks who can get underneath it, but it absolutely does not work as a coop heater. It just doesn’t put out enough heat. When I put my hand in front/under it, I could only really feel the heat when I was 6 inches away or closer.

Even then, it was not a significant heat source. If you’re looking to try this brooder, I would recommend only using it when the ambient temperature is 55 degree F or higher.

I purchased this for my brooder for the chicks I hatched. I have always faithfully used a red heat lamp for years. After years of warnings and most recently, a local farm losing a lamb and her babies due to a heat lamp mishap, I chose to go with a heat plate.

This brooder plate is large enough (with extra room) for my 21 chicks and is a great price compaired to other brands. It keeps them at the necessary temperature and they can come and go as needed. The adjustable height is nice since I have different breeds.

I use Glade Press n’ Peel to protect the top, since they enjoy standing on the top!.

We are very pleased with this brooder unit. It assembles in seconds and the adjustable legs make it easy to have varying temperatures using just the one unit. The chicks are able to regulate their temperature on their own just by staying to one end of the brooder or the other if you set the legs at opposite ends at different heights.

We currently have 8 chicks, 2 groups of 4 about 2 weeks apart in age and they are all able to regulate their temps easily while under the brooder. 10/10 would recommend this brooder. We haven’t had the opportunity or need to use the unit on the coop heater setting, so I cannot review that function of the unit.

Using as a brooder heater at present. Works well so far. Didn’t get the 5th star due to legs dont fit properly which causes it to be wobbley. Spend the extra cash and make a chain system that you can lower or raise,.

which ever your needs may be. My chicks are 2-1/2 weeks old as of now,. running around more & lots of wing flapping happening. Lost 2 of my chicks when the leg system allowed the brooder heater to fall and it fell on 2 of my chicks and suffocated them,.

as it fell down on their necks. Lifes lessons for a 1st time chicken raiser. If only the legs locked into place,. would have given this item 5 stars.

I was hesitant to purchase this after reading some of the reviews of it but figured I had better take a chance as my rooster is getting older and I’ve been worrying about him with all the single digit and below temperatures we’ve been having.

I have a very small coop, about the size of a large dog house, and only 2 hens and a rooster so this little heating pad is perfect. It does not get really warm, but I think that is also a good thing as I don’t want my chickens to become dependent on it for warmth either.

I believe it is just enough for their little home, I have felt it on zero degree mornings and it is just slightly warm, which is perfect when the coop is closed up for the night. It is a hard plastic so no worries on having them peck at it.

It was very simple to drill a couple holes in it and screw it onto the wall. I have the floor of the coop loaded with sawdust and hay on top for insulation so the wall seemed a better choice. I would definitely recommend this little heated pad!.

No issues so far. Provides just enough heat to keep the girls happy; on especially cold mornings they often stay in the coop for a few hours longer than normal. Installed vertically on an inside wall next to the roosts with a few small screws (not provided with pad) through holes I drilled in the flange/edge.

My chickens are making it through this cold winter because of their Thermo-Chicken Heated Pad. I have only 2 chickens and I have a catalog-ordered, “put it together yourself” little chicken coup that I built over a sturdy floor I built myself, which has been quite good for the four chickens I had originally.

I have the pad up against the larger wall in the nest and roosting area. The coup itself is inside the 12×15 pen that is covered by a nice roof, so it stays dry all winter. It still can be very cold so the Thermo-Chicken Heated Pad is just the ticket for my two hens who cuddle with each other up near the pad.

It is only 40 watts so is safe. It is hard surfaced and can be cleaned easily. I could never rest easy with a heat lamp in such a small space, so this is an excellent answer for my situation.

YouTube review is all wrong. Brooder is fantastic. The only change I have made is lowering the heater by setting it on regular red bricks. This lowers the heat for the chicks and the bricks radiate warmth.

Easy to water and feed. Cleaning the trays are quick and easy. Very user friendly. The schmuck on YouTube whining about this brooder is an idiot. It works fabulously. I kept 25 Cornish Cross males in a level for 2 weeks.

Then lowered the number to 18 per level for a week prior to putting them in chicken tractors on pasture. No losses so far.

I have not had the opportunity to use this brooder yet but I can give my thoughts on the assembly and construction quality. The brooder is heavy so having the parts artive in 3 boxes made it easier to move.

All the parts are well packed with protective materials. The assembly instructions are clear with pictures. Assembly is much easier with 2 people. One wall panel had a broken and missing corner but it’s still functional.

It took me about 3 hours to assemble by myself. It looks well designed and sturdy.

So far everything works awesome all my birds are happy no one’s gotten too cold, I do have it inside though. Also, it is better on me bc I don’t have to deal with the dust from the shavings. The only negative thing I can say is if I want to take it outside it won’t fit back out my door bc of its size but I also like that it is big too so that is a toss-up I do not have double doors only standard 3 ft openings.

I also love the storage under it its perfect for extras even though you really won’t need it at least it is there(I have my old heaters, feeders and waters in it, and some wooden blocks I was using in my old set up.

All in all I am loving it in my week of having it.

This heater is simply amazing! The first time we raised chicks we kept them warm with a normal clip on infrared light bulb you can find in hardware stores. It used a ton of electricity, was hard to adjust, and I always worried about getting burned from the hot bulb.

This KH brooder heats right above the chicks, so you’re not wasting energy (it’s 25 watts versus my old 250 watt bulb). The sides make it easy to adjust the height as the chicks grow. The heater allows the chicks to cluster underneath, but doesn’t get so hot as to be a fire or burn hazard like the light bulbs.

If you’re raising chicks, you want a heater like this.

Yes, this does not get as hot as the traditional heat lamps thank can fall, burn your babies or catch fire to your home. After a failing heat lamp almost did just that, I researched and found this little brooder.

My first set of 5 peeps, I was skeptical because it is warm to the touch but that is it. I bought a couple feather dusters, put them under it knowing it cant catch fire and those little babies flew in and out of there.

I put a nanny cam in their brooder to watch them, just in case. They would go In there and get all nestled inside and sleep. Then they would shoot out and eat, play and drink and eventually go back in.

I there was plenty of room and I think this is more natural if you don’t have a broody mom for them. I might add, the babies are kept in my house in an open air brooder and at night I keep it 73. I would not put these babies outside on a cold night, like 60s or 50s without trying a couple dusters and a thermometer.

Babies are alot more resilient than people give them. The babies stayed with the brooder until they had feathers and were fine without it.

I received this product as part of a cash back promotion and it has come in so handy. The first week I had the brooder we had a huge rainstorm and one of my chickens became very wet. I was able to use this brooder in our dog kennel for her to heat herself up and stay warm through the night.

The next day she was back with the flock nice and dry. Knowing this worked so well for my sick chicken I know that it is going to be great when I get my chicks this spring. It is the perfect temp to keep their little fluff bodies warm and is easy to clean with the little guys poop all over.

The waterer has a long cord. Because the lid lifts off the top, it is easy to refill. The handle has a notch so it can be suspended with stability. There are three nipples surrounded by a red fitting.

Our older chickens more easily learned how to peck at the metal pin which is pushed back to release water. They learned easily because they’re comfortable with me and didn’t hesitate to peck at the waterer in my presence.

However, our younger poults aren’t comfortable with me so it was difficult to teach them. I thought if I taught one, the rest would follow but in this case, it didn’t work. I’ll reintroduce the waterer back to the poults once they’re more comfortable with me.

I live in one of the snowiest places in the country and we get some very cold days with sub-zero temperatures. Prior to getting the heated waterer, I had to bring out a new bucket of water every day because it was frozen solid.

Now, I refill it once a week and it hasn’t froze once. My chickens were used to drinking from bucket nipples, so this was an easy transition. I just showed them the metal nipple and how it produces water.

A couple pecked at it, and that was all it took for the rest to learn. VERY happy so far.

After about one week of use: Good capacity for my 6 birds. Closed to exclude debris and dust, no spills or evaporation. I realized after I got it that the closed system will reduce moisture in the coop.

Cord plenty long. Bump/handle on lid may discourage birds from sitting. Handle shape keeps waterer centered (level). FYI there are only 3 ports (or whatever you call them). Had a couple of nights in low teens and it worked fine.

I really like this unit. I purchased it a month ago. So far so good. Nice size, has 2 heat settings, and a fan that really pushes the heat out into the room and it cools it down to store it out of the way.

Big plus is the safety features. I also like that it’s compact & lite to move to different rooms when needed. I bought this unit to use in my small bathroom.

I bought one of these to replace another that my daughter absconded for her room. This new heater works great like the other but than fan is much more quite. It gets used in various sized rooms around the house, wherever we want a little more warmth.

(We keep the house 65) I use it a lot in my roughly 15×20 bedroom while watching TV. I may buy another because my wife likes it in her home office.

The great thing about this heater is it’s cost. For a low price you get a safe, reliable, sturdy metal heater that has two heat settings plus fan mode, and a thermostat that works pretty well. I keep mine inside a 625 square foot shop/garage, which is insulated (with the exception of the roll up door), and this heater is able to keep it at 65 to 68 degrees fairly easily.

I live in east Texas, so we don’t see a whole lot of temps below freezing though.

These actually work pretty well. I was not able to use them as the sole source of heat due to an unexpectedly large population of chicks but the chicks seemed to like the feeling they got underneath them.

I am happy I have them and with less chicks they might be able to be used as the exclusive source of heat.

I have four of these, all bought at different times, from Chewy and from another source. ALL of them work exactly as promised: when the temperature is below 35ºF, it comes on. I have to believe a lot of people either don’t read how it works, or simply do not understand.

YES THE BAR CAN FEEL COLD TO THE TOUCH EVEN WHEN IT IS ON — especially if the ambient temperature is very cold. That does NOT MEAN IT IS NOT WORKING. As all of us learn in 6th grade science class, very cold air – especially if combined with any wind — will wick the heat off of a steel surface faster than it can accumulate.

If it were hot enough to still feel HOT in that state, it would also be hot enough to BURN YOUR CHICKENS’ feet. However, the internal airspace of the perch is still a comfy 99ºF — which will wick through into your chicken’s feet when roosting.

As explained in their directions, and in their ad –You can test this by wrapping a cloth around a portion of the perch in cold weather. After a few minutes, feel under the cloth to experience the warmth of the perch.

This perch is fabulous, and a real comfort during snowy miserably cold winter days. The only things I would change is to add the ability to secure it easily higher up or extend the legs, and an on/off indicator so I could tell easily when it’s powered on/off.

Also, I wish the flat side of the perch faced up, as that is optimal for chicken’s feet — but really — even with these small issues — it’s worth every penny.

I never could find the information r3egarding what ambient temp turns the unit on and when it is warm enough to turn itself off. I wish it came on earlier, before it was so cold that your hands almost freeze when touching the cold metal perch, thus drawing off warmth into the (metal) perch.

I assume its the same for the birds feet. Very cold to touch when not “on” in cold weather! That can’t be comforable for the birds, until it turns on. I can’t help but think it would suck out the heat from the bird/s feet until their feet warm up the metal perch and/or it comes “on”.

ANother improvement would be to add a small LED light to see when it was ‘on” vs “off”, it visually would be nice to not have to go over and touch it every time to check if t is working and since I don’t know the specs of when it goes on and off, I have to touch it everytime.

The perch itself would be improved if could be rotated to the flatter side facing up, so my biggest chickens wouldnt slip so easily, however it seems they got used to it over a period of time, but they do like wider, flatter perches that aren’t so slippery.

Overall it is great way to keep the girls warm and is a nice perch for night even on the warmer nights when it is not turning on and heating. It is a nice alternative to a panel heater and less wattage usage too.

Haven’t tried it yet but looks like it’ll do the trick this winter. Cord looks plenty long and is there prong so no worries about hooking up to extension cord for outdoor use. Hopefully works as good as described.

Easily assembled, only downside is shipping costs run this up to a maybe purchase. Used a coupon and made affordable otherwise wouldn’t have got it.

I love that I can fill it and seal it, then carry it to the chickens. Our ones before this were so hard to carry without getting water everywhere, & on your pants, as you slip in the mud or snow on the way to the chickens.

The little rubber seals on the metal ones never worked. The red and white ones you carry upside down & spill it down your front while trying to balance it, or right side up and it splashes out on your legs.

Then you have to fight the cord to put the bottom on and flip it over. None of that with this. Only thing with this one is the little screen doesn’t do much, but we never had anything like that on the old ones anyway.

The H-T-W works as expected. I have it set up in the corner of two indoor flypens. This allows both flocks of pigeons to drink from it. It has kept their water unfrozen in -0 degree temps as I live in Wisconsin.

I really like the water tank as it is easy to fill, carry and flip with little water spillage. The only negative is that the tray is too wide. This really allows too much liter and droppings to fall into it.

A narrow-er tray would prevent it. Fowl could still drink from it- so there is no need for such a wide tray.

I got this in hopes that my ladies would have a constant water supply throughout the winter months. Unfortunately, this thing is made extremely poorly. The plug on the water reservoir doesn’t pop out when the base is attached, so no water dispenses and if you manually unplug it and attach it to the base, no water will remain in the reservoir.

The water also isn’t warm, so the very purpose of it preventing freezing is not present. What a tremendous waste of time and money.

This Heated Drinker Base from Harris Farms® does exactly what it’s supposed to do, and does it well. I was first apprehensive about this because I thought it might heat the water, but it doesn’t even turn on until it gets down to 35 degrees Fahrenheit.

So you can leave it plugged in and know that it’s only heating when it gets close to freezing temps. Be careful because the top of the drinker base is all metal with a heating element attached directly to the underside of the metal; it gets very hot.

Also, make sure to use only appropriate containers on top of the heated drinker base.

Bought one of these from RK over 5 years ago. More than well worth the investment. For those complaining that it does not work. or the one that they bought did not work, I would say that they did not read the directions.

This unit does NOT get warm when you plug it in. It ONLY comes on when the temperature goes below freezing. It is not on all the time and saves a great deal on electricity because of this feature. RK does not sell broken units.

THEY WORK! You can not test it just by plugging it in. Plug it in, set it outside (mine gets put on a piece of plywood so I can make it level) Set your waterer on top and leave it be. It will turn on and work only when it needs to.

Mine has now gone through at least 4 seasons, maybe more, and has more than held up under heavy use outside in an unprotected area all winter.

It does what it says. My husband gave it a good look over. He was very impressed with the performance of our Manna Pro Harris Farms Heated Drinker Base. He said that it passed the test. He is very sure that it will keep the water from freezing throughout the cold winter months.

We live in Virginia. He says that we must keep it inside of the chicken coop. It’s a good quality and will keep the water from freezing.

I live in Indiana, which is to say it gets cold here. I’ve been using this heater in my garage for about a month now, and it has far exceeded my expectations. Space heaters always make me nervous that it will catch on fire, but this thing runs 10-15 hours a day right now, and it’s never seemed to overheat or shown any signal of slowing down.

I feel very safe. The current weather is high in the 40’s, low 25-30 degrees at night. I’d say in the mornings, my garage is very chilly, and It does take a 2-car garage a few hours to get to 60 degrees, but if the space heater is close enough to me, then it doesn’t really matter because it keeps me warm.

I really like the two blowing settings and the full range of warming temperatures. It also has a fan option, for when it gets too hot, you can just circulate the air. I’m considering buying a second one, for when temperatures drop even further.

Overall, highly recommend, item is exactly as described and the price is unbeatable.

I recently used this heater to heat a small utility shed to complete a task. It was effective in heating the space to a working temperature when it was around -10 outside. This unit has variable heat controls and can be adjusted vertically instead of the standard horizontal (side to side) movement.

The onboard thermostat shuts the heat off when it reaches the desired temperature on the dial. I wish it had a tip over shut off switch but otherwise it worked for the task and I will use it lots in the future.

It’s low profile makes it an excellent choice for pets/kids because it is virtually impossible to knock over. I have owned 6 of these heaters. Four of the preceding model and now 2 of the current model.

I had two of the original ones fail within about a year and a half. The next two lasted a long time and still technically work but over time dust and pet hair will collect on the back side of the ceramic element reducing air flow significantly.

That’s what happened to the second pair. I took them apart and cleaned them but they no longer provide the same level of heat. I don’t know if the elements degrade over time or what, but I restored the air flow by cleaning it but they are just not as warm anymore.

I now have two of the current model. They appear to be working OK but I don’t expect them to last over three seasons. I only continue to buy them because I feel they are a safe option around my pets.

I will say they do work well when they are new. Just don’t expect them to last for a long time (which is disappointing).
