20 Best Chicken For Dogs (2022 Updated)

I have been feeding this brand to my cats as an alternative to canned foods for a couple years now, and in April we got a 6month old puppy. She came to us from her previous owners with a high protein adult dog kibble and a litany of digestive issues.

After trying several options of dog food over the course of months, ultimately I came to the conclusion that no matter what kind of kibble I fed her, it was going to cause her to have diarrhea. I started feeding her chicken and rice and boiled carrots or pumpkin purée to stabilize her guts, slowly adding ingredients to her diet to try to isolate the things that cause her digestive upset.

Now, 6 months later, she is doing well on raw and cooked whole foods. I have been cooking for her at home or buying her frozen raw food from a local pet store, but the time and effort of the first and the cost of the latter (combined with having to remember to pull food from the freezer twice a day with enough time for it to thaw before meals) was becoming an issue.

I had previously considered and decided against honest kitchen for my dog, because most of their recipes include peas (more so the grain free varieties, but even the whole grain options mostly include peas) and I’ve read that peas in a dog’s diet can prevent adequate absorption of taurine in the diet.

However, recently I came across the grain free version of this fruits & veggies meal base, which of course was made with peas, but it prompted me to go searching for a not grain free option. So I tracked down this product! Admittedly the most inconvenient part of feeding my dog at home has been preparing rice routinely, and having a variety of fruits vegetables on hand and preparing them twice a day, all while worrying that I may be depriving my dog of important nutrients with my incomplete knowledge of dog nutrition.

This mix has completely removed the worst part of preparing food for my dog from the equation, while giving me peace of mind that nothing is being left out of her diet. Now all I have to do is mix up what we refer to as “dog soup” (and “cat soup” respectively), and measure out her protein.

My dog absolutely loves this stuff (her relentless interest in the cat soup also nudged me towards trying this option), and she hasn’t had any diarrhea since switching her over to an honest kitchen diet.

Now I just wait and make sure no skin allergy flare ups result from prolonged exposure to any ingredients in this food. Fingers crossed! disclaimer: my dog loves the taste of this stuff and will leave nothing behind, but she also loves fruits and veggies in general (she even wants to eat my lemons and limes, and one of her favorite treats is the leftover tops of strawberries), so if you have a dog who is picky about their food, this may be a gamble.

My cats are not crazy about their honest kitchen blend, it’s not for everyone. However, the quality is good and if your pet is one of the ones who loves the taste, it’s a great alternative to costly and time consuming raw feeding.

First off, I gave a review of a 3 rating on the product ACANA Limited Ingredients, which I have used for several months and highly mixed with human beef, chicken, vegetables, egg whites and bone broth.

But, I am giving “The Honest Kitchen” a 5 star rating, at least for now. Why? I have two very different pups (both are 2 1/2 years old) but have two very different needs. The 45 lb female is super active and eats any thing (literally) and was never full.

The 65 lb. male is very particular and less active than his companion and would rather go hungry then eat something that did not pick his nose. Solution: Find a food combination that satisfied both and kept the price reasonable.

Tried out “The Honest Kitchen Beef Recipe Grain Free Dehydrated. ” Expensive – yes! But knowing what each pup’s Kcal requirements were (and Vet reviewed), I found that ACANA primarily worked with the over active 45 pd.

pup, when mixed with 1/4 c. dry flakes (makes 3/4 cup wet) with Honest Kitchen, and added boiled chicken and vegetables, and 1/2 c. ACANA at bedtime and she was very satisfied. The 65 pd. pup is only given 1 1/4 dry cups twice/day Honest Kitchen and boiled chicken and 1/4 cup ACANA at night, with no additives.

(However, I do add Organic, low or no salt, Beef Bone Broth mixed with water to all meals. ) The pups stools also improved and the 65 lb. pup’s anal glands and allergies are clearing up. He licks every drop and cleans his plate.

I do think that ACANA has a good product, especially if the pup has allergies (which I was originally looking for. ) However, they need to UP the fiber, lower the sugars and make it more enticing to a dog’s nose.

I am no chemist, so I could be way off on my evaluation; but, I can only evaluate what results from two different types of pup’s reactions are and how they behave and react to the food. Price (on auto ship for extra small/small) wise: ACANA: is 100 cups/25 lbs.

where as The Honest Kitchen is 40 cups/10 lbs. If you have medium to extra large dogs The Honest Kitchen is very pricey. However, you do not have any uneaten food and the pup’s bellies are full. That is why I have struggled (and probably will in the future) to find the right combination for each pup at a price for good food, that I can afford.

ACANA is a VERY good product; however, it just does not fill a pup’s belly up, whereas “The Honest Kitchen” does.

After 2 months of exhausting, in-depth research regarding canine gastric workings and evolution, the industrial control that has degraded the dog food quality, and calculations of the costs that I could afford, I have arrived at HK Grain Free Turkey Dehydrated.

I tried several, increasingly expensive, excellent kibbles and my rescued 6-year-old Boston Terrier just could not tolerate them. She had IBS issues, stomach growling, voracious thirst, sudden bouts of loose stools, shedding, flatulence, low energy, gland issues, and ‘boogery’ eyes.

ALL but the boogery eyes have gone away since switching her to this dehydrated food! I mix it the day before and refrigerate it to give plenty of time for re-hydration. I add a little more warm water before I give it to her.

She loves the food. I throw in several small pieces of quality chicken or turkey breast or thighs to up her lean protein. The ‘pudding consistency so many people don’t like is exactly what makes this food perfect; hydrated, pureed food is easier to digest! Decades ago I had a Boston with liver issues; I cooked and pureed all her food; I wish this dehydrated food had existed! I give her hard knuckle bones or bully sticks to gnaw on from time to time to keep her teeth scraped and clean.

I received a sample of this product in with my dog’s normal soft dog food and didn’t think much about it. She’s a notoriously picky eater, so I set it aside “somewhere” to give to a relative or a neighbor.

About a week later I hear the soul crushing sound of a dog ripping into plastic. My first thought was that she’d gotten into one of those silicone gel packs for some reason (those that come in packaging to keep moisture low), even though she’s never shown any interest.

I dash over to her, only to find the Northwest sample packaging in her mouth, and every morsel licked clean. I immediately ordered her some, and it’s been a hit ever since! The freeze dried chicken is too expensive to feed every day, but we spend weekends and holidays with family and that’s when I really find it convenient, so she gets it on average twice a week.

She devours it! I’m so glad I’ve found something light, easy to travel with, healthy, and that she loves that doesn’t upset her stomach at all! Well worth the ridiculous price tag to me!!.

I didn’t see any real nutrition information provided on ONP (I wanted to know what the Omega 3 content was) but I was sure it would be on the bag and since I only intended to use this as treats for a raw fed dog, not as a significant part of his diet, I went ahead and bought it since it was a great value with good ingredients even though the “whitefish” was generic and not a named fish species.

I generally buy Human Grade products. Not only was there not ONE SINGLE VITAMIN OR MINERAL shown, let alone lipid content, “NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION” was stamped in big, bold capital letters where that nutrition profile would normally begin.

I have never, in all my days, seen a pet food producer completely omit the nutrition profile on a complete dog food product. If that’s not shady, I don’t know what is. If this was bought as a significant meal component and not a treat, it would be going back.

The company has had no recalls and the product has been available for some time and they haven’t harmed any pets yet and my dog went bats over the two bites I gave him before I read the bag so we’ll finish out this bag but we won’t be buying anything from this nutritional mystery, “NOT FOR HUMAN HUMAN CONSUMPTION” product line again.

How disappointing!.

We have the pickiest little Pomeranian you’d ever want to meet! I lost track of the dog foods we tried her on. We noticed she would pick out certain colors of kibble from her food. I imagine it was a flavor she didn’t like.

We got a food that all the kibble was the same color, I guessed that it was all the same flavor. Apparently not because she still picked a bunch out. No matter what food we got her she would always pick at it and leave a lot.

We stumbled upon Northwest Naturals while trying to find a healthy treat for her. We started with the freeze dried chicken. We’d learned one thing with our food trials and that was that this dog ONLY likes chicken.

She LOVED this new treat. Our dog food search was getting tiresome however. I finally realized that Harley liked her treats a whole lot more than her food. I started feeding her the raw frozen diet and kept the freeze dried as her treat.

We’d never seen her excited for dinner before. She loves this food (and ONLY this food)! I’m glad we found a food without all the junk in it. Dogfoodadvisor. com gave this food and specifically this chicken recipe a five star rating.

I don’t normally sing the praises of a product but this one is worth it! We follow the feeding guidelines on the back of the bag. In the evening we fill her bowl with the recommended amount of food and I slide her bowl into a half gallon sized zip lock bag and put it in the fridge.

At dinner time the next day I take her bowl out and she scarfs it down! easypeezy.

All the Carna4 flavors we have tried so far have been a big hit; the venison is the first one my dog tried and we always go back to it. They don’t cause any indigestion; they are clearly delicious (I use these as rewards sometimes); as well, they are human grade and exceed AAFCO requirements.

I recommend rotating Carna4 flavors to keep things interesting. The venison and the lamb are the lowest in calories for anyone that is watching their dog’s weight!.

Quick delivery. My dog loves this kibble; she usually has to be coerced into eating, however she takes these as a treat! The food is definitely helping with her allergies, Im assuming its the omegas in the fish that are helping her coat.

Packaging has a velcro reusable opening, which makes things convenient.

I highly recommend this food. My chihuahua mix is a picky eater who is missing a few teeth. With other brands of kibble, it is a chore to convince him to eat his food. This is his third bag of the Carna4 Easy-Chew food and he loves it, the smaller and slightly softer kibble makes it easier for him to eat.

No more having to coax him to eat his food every day. The cat loves stealing it from him too so I have to watch out for extra paws in his food dish!.

Love the locations! Love the high quality brands you carry, like my dog’s: Open Farm. However, I find that a lot of flavors of their freeze dried food and wet stews are out of stock at multiple locations regularly.

I’ve called ahead to find a flavor because the online store says it in stock at a particular location. When I call, an associate often says it’s out of stock and the website just doesn’t reflect inventory accurately.

In my opinion, that renders the websites’ inventory useless. It makes it hard for me to find food in a pinch. I don’t want to have to go back to ordering directly from the company online. I’d like to be able to buy this food in stores, but big retailers like Petsmart and Petco don’t carry this brand.

It has clearly gained more popularity over the years so I think you guys should stock more of the flavors that sell out so often. If you regularly had my dogs food in stock, I would be a more regular customer.

However, I understand that things like this can be out of your control which is why I still think you deserve a pretty high rating. I otherwise love everything I’ve purchased from your store and so does my dog.

I recently adopted a 10. 5 year old hound who had been extremely malnourished for years. He came to us around 10-15lbs underweight and we needed to get weight back on him quickly. To make things a little more difficult, we found out (the hard way) he had a chicken allergy and he was also extremely picky about his food.

Thank god for Open Farm. Their single-source protein choices made it so much easier to find out what he liked, and to make sure we weren’t giving him chicken. For three months we have been feeding him the turkey ancient grains kibble mixed with the new venison recipe, topped with the beef freeze dried raw (his favorite), some of the wet food beef stew, and the bone broth.

He has gained 11lbs back, he has strength in his legs again, and his fur is soft and shiny. I can’t believe this dog is a senior with how healthy and energetic he is again. I am so glad our local pet store had Open Farm.

These are probably the best meals he has ever had in his life.

My dog is very picky with food, she only really loves boiled chicken. usually she leaves her kibble out for hours until she gives up waiting for us to give her something & eats it. Even then some times she’ll pick out whatever topper we gave her and leave it on the floor.

Not with this!! We changed to open farm and only bought the turkey grained kibble to test it out. we have had no trouble with it so I decided to buy more and these freeze dried items with the broth bundle.

She LOVED it! she ate all her food in one sitting, didnt pick out anything and even after she finished she kept licking her bowl. The freeze dried is very easy to break apart with your own fingers no need for scissors or anything.

I highly recommend this to anyone who has a picky eater like mine!! Also can I point out how fast shipping is?!?! only takes a couple days and the last two times ive ordered it actually came a day earlier than expected.

Terrific supplemental food. Bones are indeed soft enough to be eaten and provides lots of essential minerals along with the wonderful bone broth. I used a fork to test the hardness of the bones and they basically crush up versus splinter.

My dogs love this stuff and it is as close to home cooked as one can get. It is actually rather low in fat at 2. 5% crude fat. Regular pate type dog food is usually about 10% fat. Although you can see bits of fat in the can it may actually be lower in fat than your regular canned foods.

Great product, although The chicken is fatty and def not top grade. I add some “honest kitchen” powder as there’s lots of fluid in the cans, sometimes more and sometimes less. Pricey, but nothing similar available on the market.

We use these for training treats. It’s technically food, but it’s so tasty that dogs will work for THIS food! Our dogs have, and foster dogs have. It IS kinda a pain to have to cut it up, and if you cut it into small pieces, they get crumbly and you end up with a whole lot of crumbs at the bottom of the bag that you’re having to mash together.

Effective way to avoid the crumb conundrum: I’ve found that if you use a really sharp knife when cutting the roll, that helps immensely. I also do probably 1/4- 1/2″ wide sliced, so not ultra thin. Finally, I’ve discovered that if you only cut your 1/4-1/2″ rounds into long slices (only cut one direction), you end up with waaaaaaay less crumbs, and you can just break off one small piece at a time an individual slice when you’re training.

In many ways, I’ve found this to be more efficient during training sessions too. You can get easier to use training treats out there–true. However, if you need a COST EFFECTIVE training treat that your dog will consider HIGH VALUE, I’d recommend getting these and doing some slicing, but avoiding the dicing!.

We recently got a Havanese from a very reputable breeder and she sent us home with a small bag of this cut into small squares. It arrives in a 4 lb roll like good salami or summer sausage, all solid beef product, and it cuts like a charm.

We cut it all up, put it in manageable sandwich bags for our pup, and froze it. We sprinkle 2 cubes in his dry kibble, each meal and he devours it. Will continue to use it for life. He’s doing superbly.

Shelly had a lot of really strange symptoms and they couldn’t figure out what was going on. Even after over $1k in vet bills they had given up on her. I didn’t know what else to do. Someone suggested a food allergy so I tried to find healthy, fresh food that didn’t have grain, soy, etc that can trigger allergies.

Not knowing how much she would eat, since she didn’t have much of an appetite, I was afraid of buying refrigerated food. I came across this FREEZE DRIED fresh food option. She immediately loved it and her appetite improved almost immediately.

Within a few days she was starting to put on weight again and after a week or so, she was zooming around the house like her usual hyper self! The food is a little on the expensive side, but since she started on it, I’ve experimented with other foods (including the Instinct brand kibble) and they just had her feeling ill again.

So this food really changed everything for her and I’m extremely grateful. I wish I had tried it sooner!.

I switched from Stella and Chewy. I was tired of having to break the pattie’s with my hands, not to mention it leaving my hands a bit greasy. Not ideal when traveling and no water to wash hands. The large bag didn’t even last a month.

Instinct Raw Meals is perfect! It’s molded into a kibble shape and the size is perfect for small dogs and big dogs too. It’s light weight easy to pour into the bowl and great for traveling as well. The best part is that it’s also freezed dried raw with limited ingredients.

Excellent for dogs that have food sensitivities and allergies. Freezed dried raw is also great for all dogs. As soon as I got the package, I opened it up and let Myles sample a taste. He ate it right away out of my hands without hesitation.

Normally, he wouldn’t eat anything else after he had his breakfast. Surely, he loves it. I started Myles with the Lamb flavor. He’ll try the Beef then Chicken next. I hope this bag last at least a month.

I know this is a pricey food if you use it the way I do (as the complete meal), but it’s so completely worth it. I chose this because I understand how vital it is for dogs to get raw organ meat and even raw, ground chicken bone.

Dogs (and puppies) NEED raw organ meat. There are certain nutrients in raw organ meat that literally cannot be found anywhere else. Basically, I’ve been researching the ingredients to make sure you have in your dog food, and the ingredients that must be avoided.

It’s *extremely* difficult to find a brand that has 0 harmful ingredients, *and* the necessary beneficial ones. Cooked or processing meats actually significantly reduces the nutritional value for our 4-legged friends.

I did try the “Instinct Raw Boost Large Breed Puppy Grain-Free Recipe with Real Chicken Dry Dog Food with Freeze-Dried Raw Pieces” (my puppy is 3mo old mixed XL breed), but I was incredibly disappointed that the second ingredient listed was chicken meal.

Meat-meal, meat by-products, by-products–not good for dog consumption. You literally have no idea what’s in it–bones, feet, health disruptors. Her previous home was feeding her kibble. Most kibble has some form of health disruptors in it.

However, the Instinct dry food caused pile-poo (diarrhea that isn’t quite a soup texture, but is impossible to pick up; more like puree; a little bit thicker than a melted smoothie). I think it was the freeze-dried component, but I can’t be sure.

All I *can* say is that this one, the raw frozen food, allows for healthy poop, excited meals, appropriate nutrition, and healthy development. It’s expensive. At this rate, we’ll be getting a bag every 2-3 days.

But she’s worth it to me. If using this full-time isn’t an option for you financially, I do recommend using it mixed in. It’s so good for them, and she gets so excited when it’s time to eat. Eats all of it in a couple of minutes! If you want to learn more about appropriate nutrition for dogs (and cats), I learned from Dr.

Marty’s dog food / cat food videos. Now, at the end he recommends his own product. I haven’t tried it–very expensive, and freeze-dried–so I can’t tell you anything about it, but I can say that there’s a lot of wonderful information I hadn’t previously been exposed to in terms of dog nutrition.

My Lab is getting 11+ years old and she was kind of getting low on energy with dry dog food. I wanted to try something fresher than dry to see if that would help. I have had her on dry chicken Purina beneful food since I have had her.

She will eat anything I give her but she has a finicky stomach and can end up throwing up later. I thought this might be good for her. Now, she gets really excited for meal time and seems to have more energy.

She LOVES it! I do put a bit of dry food in to give it a little crunch which she loves. But we are both very please and also I love the package so I don’t have to mess with measuring out.

This is a soft dry dog food in individual cellophane packets. The texture is soft and chewy. You can see the peas and carrots and my dog loves this food. We usually go 1/2 this and 1/2 the Beneful Healthy Weight dry food so she gets a little variety but when she is being finicky she will eat this soft dry food no problem! it is easy to serve to her whenever and wherever needed.

The packets are so convenient so I know she is getting the correct serving size! And they don’t require refrigeration so handy to travel with too.

My 3 year old pit oddly developed skin allergies a year ago almost hives when exposed to majority of the dog food that’s out there. I’ve tried over 20 different brands from tractor supply, Walmart Petsmart and Petco.

About 2 months ago, I just decided to make my own food for him and that helped tremendously. However, there are times I can’t make it and this Simple Goodness has been a game changer! My vet seems to believe he has a poultry allergy so I buy the all beef version.

He gets 2 packs (1 pack = 1 cup)in the morning and two at night. No more hives! Plus, he likes the taste of it.

I hope you get the fish formula back. My dog cannot tolerate fowl in her diet. She had gone into a decline and I thought I would lose her imminently. The vet had no suggestions other than giving her Entyce to try to get her to eat.

She had projectile diarrhea, had lost a few pounds (she’s only 10 pounds), lost fur on her back, was apathetic, had gas and a bloated abdomen, and a high level of dandruff. Wouldn’t eat. Got her started on this food with the Entyce and she totally turned around.

Is her spunky self, fur has pretty much filled in, no diarrhea, gained a little weight, abdomen back to normal. Back to her old self and she’s 13!.

I started using this almost a year ago now on my dogs food as a topper! I have noticed a HUGE difference in her skin and coat (so shiny and smooth now)! I also believe that the probiotics have helped too.

My dog just seems overall healthy. Super happy this product is available on Chewy now :)!.

use only for treats for going potty and she really likes this treat more than any other we have given her. the bad thing is she wants them to much,lol been telling friends about them. great stuff she even stands up and looks at the bag we have way up on top of a tall cabinet.

The ingredients changed summer of 2022. I started my dog on this brand years ago for the probiotics and holistic factor as I did the research and found the ingredient list to be high quality. Post Covid I understand things have been changing on many levels when the bag weight was decreased from 30lb to 28lb.

Unfortunately the bag label also changed and as I finished the old bag happened to notice the kibble was significantly drier and smaller. So I looked at the label and found variances although the bag says nothing about a new formula.

Probiotics went from 31million CFU to 10 million. New product added taurine. No iron on new label but ingredient list shows Iron Proteinate (same as original and still 9th ingredient from last; so I can only assume there’s no less than 275 mg), new has no vitamin c, more egg than barley, and a couple other variances.

Due to lack of transparency and visual quality variance, I’m personally inclined to doubt quality of manufacturer as it’s clearly not the same. I’m still buying this for my dog but looking around. Im not saying this is horrible food.

I purchased intentionally at onset in lieu of adding probiotics to food. 10 bil CFU is standard, so the new food does provide the daily allowance. I’m on the fence why they wouldn’t indicate there’s a change and for not labeling iron as a mineral.

The way the ingredients list changed doesn’t seem like a big deal but when I look at quality, I can see noticeable difference as to something I may not give my dog. It looks grey instead of moist, rich and nutritious.

For these reasons, I suspect the nutrition label isn’t telling the whole story. Also, you’d probably not notice a new volume weight because the bag doesn’t point out/ advertise *new size but does list it on the bottom.

The price is still the same, and effort went into changing packaging so the 2lbs is barely noticed. Chewy CS confirmed the size change moving forward, when I inquired. I guess it’s up to interpretation if these are concerns but wanted to share what info isn’t being shared transparently from the manufacturer and misidentified nutritional content labeling.

I usually swap bags and never would’ve known this formula changed had I not saw the kibble was dry. I actually thought it was a bad batch of food but guess this is the new normal for Dr Gary’s. Photos show quality and mind you that the old large kibble recipe was at the bottom of my food container and lost some of the moisture.

The fresh out of bag nuggets looked almost wet but you can see what you were getting considering how healthy it still looks, months after opening.

We are SO happy with this formula of food! It has been impossible to find kibble that is above 550 kcals for my poodle who can not keep any weight on. This kibble was the perfect match though. It fit my budget better than the competing brands with similar kcals and formulas and it also was a win for my SUPER picky poodle who sometimes will go many days without eating if he doesn’t like the food.

He scarfed his first bowl of this down with no problems! We are going to pair it with the freeze dried food we use and hopefully this will be the food to FINALLY put some healthy weight on my scrawny boy! I’m also very pleased with how well it was manufactured.

The bag came very tightly sealed and has a zipper seal so it can be kept right in the bag and stay fresh! We will be buying this food again! It’s a lesser known brand (honestly hoping it stays that way so I don’t have to go on crazy searches like I do for our old foods that constantly were out of stock!).

Love the quality of this food, love that my Great Dane loves it. the packaging is the BEST I’ve ever seen. all great except the kibble is so small my cats can eat it! This is Giant Breed specific dog food.

why cannot the kibble be giant sized too! Ugh. anyone with a large jowled dog, I’m sure would agree this small kibble is a pain. one look to the left. all over the floor. one look to the right. all over the floor!!! Unfortunately, my Dane will not eat off the floor.

well that is Fortunate in other aspects, anyway he eats his food from a standing dog feeder and therefore more distance for it to fall from his mouth and more momentum to bounce off his rug onto the hardwood floor which gives it just the right platform to bounce, tumble and roll all over the place! But with all that and it’s a big pain, picking it up and it’s like stepping on a pebble when you are barefoot and that just hurts but with even that, I continue to buy.

because all the good in this dogfood out weighs all that! Its truly the best food that my dog loves that I have ever found. Now my dog isn’t really picky. He will eat what I give him at least a little or when he is just really hungry but he gets excited for this food even still now after feeding him it for at least 4-5 months now.

1) How does the product compare to others you’ve tried: – I believe that this product has better flavoring. Sparrow actually gets excited about dinner time and wants to eat now. It is less messy than other healthier dog food alternatives.

I was impressed that it is made of human grade ingredients. 2) What are some benefits of owning this product: – It has only been a couple of weeks, but I’ve noticed that Sparrow has more energy. She seems happier, and healthier.

(She has previously been struggling with joint issues for a while now). Her coat is shinier and softer. She smells less. The product is also extremely convenient to use as compared to other real food kibble alternatives.

Just cut the top, pour into the feeding bowl and mix. Everything is already preportioned. I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review: The food was a hit with my dog Trigger! This has been one of the easiest foods to introduce and transition to my dogs diet. Trigger hasn’t had any adverse effects, and his coat seems to have a bit of extra shine to it.

I appreciate the fact that all ingredients are 100% human grade. When opening the product, you are not hit with a typical canned wet dog food smell, it has a slight scent milder than a can of tuna (so it won’t stink up your house).

The box is easy to open, and convenient packaging makes recycle afterwards a breeze. No need to store it in the fridge until it’s opened. Downside: is- 1 box of food per 25lbs, so my dog at 75lbs would need 3 boxes which can be costly.

But, the health and wellness of my dog is utmost important and I’m willing to invest for his continued health. Overall I think this product is a wonderful addition to my dogs diet, and I will continue to use it.

Plus, he loves the flavor! Triggers stats: Weight: 75 Breed: Husky/Shepherd mix Age: 9.

Let me preface by saying that I have been feeding my dog FreshPet Chicken with Veggies for quite a while now and would have sworn by it for my dog’s GI problems. However, the last year or so I have had trouble finding it due to supply issues and in addition, I have thrown out many partial bags due to the smell of the food (tends to break down after a couple of days after opening), and my dog will not eat it.

It is supposed to last 7 days and does not. So, I looked for another dog food and saw the reviews for this one. One of the reviews raved about it for GI problems. Let me say that I just started using it and so far so good GI wise, but what is even better is she loves it! I mean she loves it!!!! I only have to keep it in the frig after opening (so it is much easier storage of the food than Freshpet that has to be continually refrigerated), but I doubt that I will be keeping it for long as she ate almost a whole box of it today (she is a 30 pound dog).

It is more money to order on Chewy than Freshpet, but I get 12 boxes of the dog food (vs. 4 bags of Freshpet) and I know I will not be throwing this food out. I am happy with it so far. And there does not seem to be any difficulty switching her over.

I have given her some Freshpet along with this to get her switched over, but stools are fine and she is a happy dog eating it.

Love love love!! Switched to raw pet food about 3 months ago this brand was top recommended and reviews spoke highly for themselves. It uses high end quality ingredients from well sourced places with least amount of negative exposure of chemicals.

Animals are high quality proteins and organic fruits vegetables. No grains and no fillers!! You pet gets raw meat vegetables they need not dry processed sprayed on crap. This brand is top in my book.

Easy to store use. Daily feeding 6 cups so a 3lb bag lasts 2 days but thats raw food. It’s a decent price considering the convenience. Only think they MUST DO IS MAKE BIGGER SIZED BAGS FOR BIG DOGS. Im tired buying 3lb to 6lb bags.

Please make a 15lb bag and allow us not having to run every two days to store to re stock. Bigger bags needed.

My dog stays fit and healthy when I’m consistent about feeding him Primal raw in the morning and also adding digestive enzymes. It cured him from a mystery issue he was having where his hind end was losing muscle mass unexplicably, his joints were getting more stiff (even though he was/is on a good joint supplement) and his hair on his tail and flanks was thinning quite noticably.

It mimmicked Cushing’s or Thyroid disease but blood tests ruled those out. I believe this change to adding primal raw food (with it’s high protein, bone and organs) and the digestive enzymes combined are what brought my dog’s health back.

My dog wouldn’t touch any other food, literally- then someone suggested primal raw. She loves it and gobbles it all up happily. Totally amazing for us. She’s gaining some much needed weight back and we’re so thankful.

One drawback is price, but at this stage it’s just what we have to do to help her.

I bought this food based on the great reviews and similar ingredients to our usual dog food but it didn’t work out for our sensitive pit mix. It just didn’t agree with her even though I did an extremely gradual switch from her other salmon dog food.

The first day, she had bad diarrhea all evening. She uncharacteristically wanted to stay outside and went to hide behind bushes in the yard. When I got her to come inside, she hid in dark rooms she never goes in.

She also had an accident in the house. (She’s never hid before or had accidents as an adult. ) I had started with 1-2 tbsp (very small percentage of her total meal) 2x/day. When I saw her upset her stomach was not resolving, I held off a day or 2 then resumed at 12-14 pieces of kibble per meal but could never go higher than 25 morsels because she felt so bad.

One night she was breathing extremely fast which the vet said is what they do when feeling bad or distressed. As soon as I stopped this food, the diarrhea stopped. I guess her stomach is just really sensitive.

She’s back on the other brand made for sensitive systems. If you have a sensitive dog, I recommend trying a small bag first. I gave 1 star for taste, as the dog didn’t mind the flavor.

Since transferring my two dogs to K9 Natural Beef and Hoke, I have seen a remarkable improvement in both energy levels and coat and skin condition. My dogs have always been fed raw, grain-free food, but my Airedale developed seizures at 6 years, following a severe bout of pancreatitis and hospitalisation.

I tried various changes to his diet but the low fat roo recommended left him with severely itchy skin and secondary infections, for over 3 years. Since changing him to K9, he rarely scratches, and although it is probably unrelated, he has not had a seizure for nearly 12 months.

Yay! I love this food…it is convenient and the dogs love it!.

I have 2 miniature poodles, one who is 11 and one who is 3. They both have very different systems, the 11 year old is prone to developing yeast blooms if she eats too much starch and the 3 year old is a high energy, picky eater, and has a hard time keeping weight on.

This is the first food that has met both of their needs. My older dog has had no issues with yeast since switching to this food. My younger dog LOVES this food and always finishes her bowl. With other food she almost always walks away, uninterested, and it was difficult to keep her at a healthy weight.

I’m so happy to have finally found one food that works for both dogs. To make feeding more convenient, I make about 3 days worth of food (adding water to the dried food) and refrigerate it. Easy for traveling too!.

This version with oats is a lot better than potato-laden grain-free version The Honest Kitchen sells. I do a 50/50 split by volume (it’s like a 25/75 split by calories) between this and Ziwi Peak Chicken.

My dog’s poops are great but a bit more frequent due to the veggies (my vet said this is normal and not to be worried about unless the frequency on a day to day basis varies a lot), and his energy is boundless.

The only downside is that they cheap out on a couple of ingredients, namely Selenium Sodium instead of Selenium Yeast. My puppy did not do well on the grain free version of this – they substitute oats for white potatoes and the order of ingredients is a bit different, too.

If your puppy does have a grain allergy, I would highly advise against the grain free version of this. Similarly, if your puppy does not have a grain allergy, put them on the grain inclusive version of this or look elsewhere.

The only other food I would consider for my dog is Open Farm – they use the yeast form of selenium, too! Only downside with Open Farm is that they use meat meal, but it’s Open Farm so this is likely a healthy and humanely sourced version of meat meal.

Open Farm, Ziwi, and The Honest Kitchen all have great options IMO. Much better than the Dr. Hill, Purina, Kirkland, etc. junk food most people feed their dogs.

A great approach towards kibble/dry dog food. My dogs absolutely love this food, and I’m thrilled they are receiving good quality ingredients in a very convenient form, and with some grains included.

I’ve always had issues over the years with “grain-free” foods causing recurrent digestive upset in my Mastiff and Bulldog breeds. I loved the grain-free clusters, but the constant need for digestive supplementation for my dogs was a nuisance.

I’ve had great results with settling my dogs’ tummies once I was able to switch over to this “grain-inclusive” cluster formula. The need for digestive supplements has stopped. YAY! This new grain inclusive formula lacks the wonderful, “turkey stuffing” smell, but it more than makes up for it in the gentleness on their stomachs, and ease of digestion.

Here’s the one caveat I have about all of the types of Clusters offered by THK thus far: they are FAR too high in calories. 422 kCalories per cup would be a common caloric need for adult, neutered/spayed dogs actively competing in field, hunting, or agility trials.

For the average spayed/neutered household pet (and especially bulldogs, mastiffs, pugs, etc. ) this is a very high calorie food. The concept many dog food manufacturers try to put forth that some foods are simply more nutrient dense and therefore dogs can be fed much less, without feeling hunger, is completely false (seriously, try feeding half-rations to a pampered bulldog or pug, and see how much sleep they will let you get).

The Honest Kitchen has been excellent with not making that, or any unfounded claims, but I truly wish they could lower the calories of their Clusters to the “approximate” industry average of 350 kcalories per cup for pet dog foods.

Perhaps a “diet” version – without chicken – of these wonderful grain-inclusive Clusters might be a consideration for THK in the future? Otherwise, I’m a true fan of THK products, and have all of my dogs’ food and treats on recurring orders.

It’s just good stuff.

I have a picky eater. I’ve tried almost every healthy, high-quality, small breed dog food there is! I’ve found very few to her taste! This is the ONLY dry food that’s small enough & soft enough for my 4lb Maltese to actually be able to eat! Even so, she likes to bring me a few pieces to break into half or quarters for her! LOL! I really wish they’d offer a Toy Breed Blend that’s just this exact same formula, but with pieces that are only a quarter of the size! I give her a dish of this and another of the FreshPet Small Dog Bite-Size twice a day, with plenty of fresh water.

She never just eats all of her food at once, so she needs a dry food to be able to graze on day and night. Also, we live in hurricane country — so a healthy dry food in a small, durable, resealable bag that lasts her a good long while is absolutely essential for evacuations! This fits the bill perfectly – and it’s affordable! TL;DR – The ONLY dry food suitable for a tiny 4lb Maltese! Others are too big, too hard, cause tummy trouble, etc!.

We have been taking in older rescue dogs looking for a safe and happy permanent home to live out their lives with people who will really care about them. We found that older dogs had a harder time with their digestive systems and since most of the ones we adopted had little or no history we would try different foods which didn’t always go well for them, or the person who had to clean up what wasn’t digested well.

We read an article on Go dog food and after a little investigating found that they had a “Sensitivities” product with a salmon protein base. We offered it to them, they ate it all and seemed to like it.

Our chubbier little girl lost some weight but not too much, was more energetic and kept at a good weight. We fed them less and noticed their droppings weren’t as “stinky and/or gross” as they had been and now we didn’t have to have 3 different brands of food on hand.

Sorry to rattle on but we have been more than impressed up to this point. Thanks Petcurean for helping us take better care of our dogs and for helping them feel and look better.

This food has been great for my senior pit bull! I can’t say if it has helped her allergies, because I am doing several others things to help manage her skin problems (regular medicated baths, supplements, etc.

). But it has definitely made a difference in her energy level. I noticed she had started to slow down and was reluctant to go up and down stairs, and switching to this food has changed that. She also plays more with the other dogs without getting sore after.

And she’s had no digestive issues on this food whatsoever. I do, however, wish they had a grain-inclusive senior formula or at least something without potatoes and peas. It’s good for dogs to have variety, so I like to regularly rotate between foods to give my dogs a break from some ingredients and introduce new ones.

(And potatoes and/or peas seem to be in almost every grain-free food. ).

This dog food my 3 labs absolutely LOVE!!! It has wholesome ingredients, and they have no stomach upsets, bowels are fine, their coats are fabulous, and they are more calmer. I listened to a vet on Utube, and he was saying how he feeds his own dog Go Solutions.

He was explaining how the ingredients are so simple and nutritious. I thought I would give it a try as I’ve tried a variety of dog foods and this one they had no issues with!! Now they are on all varieties of dry and wet Go Solutions! They are super healthy and I will never go back to anything else! I’m hoping Chewy will sell a wide variety of their products as they are expanding and I’d like to get them on the Go Solutions Hip and Joint dry dog food.

The kibbles are bigger size in the Lamb & Wild Boar recipe which they like, but all in all, they love all varieties! This is a good dog food!!! I would highly recommend!!!!.

I don’t know what this company puts in these treats to make them so appealing(just kidding, it’s the minimal naturally sourced ingredients), but i’ve never been so tempted to take a bite of a dog treat as i am when i smell these.

They genuinely smell just like the real deal it’s mind blowing. My four dogs absolutely adore every treat i’ve gotten from this company. My sunshine loving fifteen year old pitty who typically has to be reluctantly lured back inside with a long trail of treats covered in peanut butter comes running like a young pup all the way across the yard the second i open the bag! I swear he doesn’t even do that for people chicken! I also have a miniature italian greyhound who doesn’t have any teeth.

It’s so sad giving the other three treats and then having to resort to peanut butter over and over for Rigbee… until i came across these! Soft enough(tasty enough too, he’s a picky lil fella) for him to devour in seconds.

Although the price is bit high in comparison to your typical dog food company, you really do get what you pay for and for my puppies id give anything to keep them happy and healthy.

We absolutely LOVE these treats! Meenie (aka “Puppy Girl”) is 14 and she is the most pickiest eater we have ever had, but this she LOVES! She has always been slightly picky. However, after losing both of her “brothers” she got even pickier and would no longer eat the treats we gave all of them.

We have also switched her to the Home Cooked Chicken Recipe for her breakfast and dinner. I swear it has given her more energy when she is awake. She is almost puppy-like again when she gets treats! Meenie says – “Yes mommy and daddy, tell everyone they are yummy!”.

Never will I purchase anything from this brand again. I have a 15 year old Bichon who has been in perfect health. Saw these at a recent Target visit and thought they would be great option for a treat for her as they are more natural and the reviews were great.

Within two to three days my dog starting acting strange. She’d wince whenever we would pet her around her abdomen. She became so lethargic by the 6th day that I had to carry her outside just to go to the bathroom.

She also started having these weezing episodes. I was just getting ready to call our vet when my husband mentioned she didn’t start acting like this until I gave her the new treats from Target, so I stopped them immediately to see if there was any difference.

As the next couple days passed she was completely back to normal running around and happy again. Thank god my husband mentioned the treats. I didn’t even think of it when she got sick that they might possibly be to blame but they definitely were.

Then I started googling fresh pet and dogs getting sick from it. Yes, so many dogs have also gotten sick from it. Never again.

My Toby has always been a picky eater even on the highest quality kibble. Toppers helped but he still walked away from many meals going hungry. He also has food and environmental allergies and there aren’t many foods out there he can eat.

I thought I’d better try out a raw diet after hearing how good they are for dogs. Toby is absolutely hooked, he LOVES to eat now! He is on a half and half diet, half Primal and half Kibble. This particular protein food is quite low in calories and not only couldn’t he eat the required amount of food in volume in one day but it would be quite expensive to feed 100%.

These nuggets are quite easy to break apart with a fork and not at all hard. Toby dances for his food now and seems more satiated with his meals. I can’t be sure yet if his allergies are lessening but I do believe he is better.

There is no going back now, Toby loves freeze dried raw food!.

Both of my girls LOVE the lamb and the pork versions of this product. They can’t eat poultry due to allergies and/or seizure trigger, and beef is also suspect as seizure trigger so I stick with meats that haven’t really been known to cause those.

I have super picky eaters. I mean this is the 20th type of non-kibble dried food I’ve tried and either one likes or doesn’t, but both eat this stuff up. No salt which is a seizure trigger so thanks for removing that! Alfalfa is an allergen in me but I haven’t broken out by breaking up the chucks yet.

So far haven’t seen any unusual allergies or problems after a week. If I do, it’s probably the alfalfa if anything. I’d like to see that removed for sure just in case but if they are eating it, I’m not going to worry about it that much.

So hard to find something both of them will eat. It is pricey but you also don’t have to feed them as much. I feed 2 nugget in morning, 2 at night. They also get freeze dried 1 ingredient treats and dental chews as well as a little canned 95% meat when I get home from work as a daily mom is home treat mixed with some natural flea repellent tablets crushed up.

So far this setup is working but the Primal being loved by both dogs is my main excitement!.

It is safe to say that Primal has made a life long customer! Before now I never knew how difficult it was trying to care for a dog with allergies. Being a Frenchie mom has taught me a lot! And one of those things was that Primal is an incredible and trustworthy brand that I can count on.

It has been the only brand that doesn’t cause my pup discomfort. Also since I am able to add warm water to the nuggets, it helps immensely with his hydration and he’s not gulping water and spitting it up anymore.

Their single protein and limited ingredient foods are made with such great quality I can’t compliment them enough and show my appreciation. The venison in particular has worked really well for my dog (and the lamb) since he has a poultry allergy.

I have recommended it to other Frenchie parents over the years and have even gotten some great follow ups!.

**WARNING!!** Our 3 Yorkies got violently ill & our 4th baby died. During our last training session with our dog trainer for my four Yorkies on 10/1, he suggested switching their food to Stella & Chewy’s Raw to help manage their weight and get the right amount of nutrients that I may have been missing by making their food myself.

I purchased the food the following week and began transitioning them. I noticed our 4 yo female had stopped eating intermittently and began having diarrhea. I took her to the vet as an urgent case since it was Saturday, almost 1 week after transitioning them.

They ran tests and gave her anti-diarrhea medicine and said to stop the raw diet immediately as it was making her sick. When we got home from taking her, our 10 yo female started vomiting and having diarrhea.

An hour later she began vomiting blood. I rushed her to an emergency vet hospital where they stabilized her but were at max capacity so they had me take her to another hospital where they took x-rays, ran tests and gave her oxygen to stabilize her breathing and medication to control her diarrhea but stated she probably only had 24-48 hours to live.

The vet said to stop the Stella & Chewy’s because it was bad for them and gave me a replacement dog food. Thankfully she started recovering within a few days. 3 days later our 2 yo yorkie began having diarrhea followed by our 10 yo male two days after that.

I immediately got our 2 yo into the vet where they evaluated her, ran tests and gave her the same anti-diarrhea medication which began working the following day. Other than loose stools our male’s diarrhea got better with his hamburger & rice diet and a little pumpkin, and he didn’t show any signs of distress.

We flew to CA Thursday morning and he was eating and acting fine. Approx. 5 hours later our Pet / house sitter called to say that he wouldn’t eat his dinner or drink water. The following morning she called to say she found him laying down outside which is unusual and he still wouldn’t eat.

I told her he probably had an upset stomach and let me know when she returned from work, if he still wasn’t eating or acting right. She called us crying hysterically that afternoon saying he was in our room and he wasn’t moving.

Unfortunately he had passed during the previous 8 hours. Since the only thing that changed was their food and 2 weeks after starting it and $3k in vetrinary bills, three of our 4 babies became violently sick and on medication and one passed away.

We are in shock, distraught and sickened by what has happened and I will never recommend Stella & Chewy’s to anyone.

my French Bulldog has terrible allergies. Tried other products that eliminated chicken, turkey, grain, potatoes and other ingredients I was warned about. Had her on fish, had her on lamb had her on a very limited diet and the itching persisted.

Started using Stella & Chewys Pork ONLY and after about 2 weeks it all disappeared. No more itching/rubbing to her belly or her paws. She finally can feel comfort. I have not tried any other flavors with her because the pork is working so I am sticking to it.

She gets nothing else. I soak the patties in water for a little bit before feeding it to her and let her have the left over juice and she loves it. The people who are complaining about how hard the pattis are need to soak the patti.

only down side is that this product is difficult to find in local stores. Today is a perfect example because my weekly Chewy order is not here yet and I am out of food for her. Supposingly it will be here this afternoon.

With that. I will be stashing and extra bag away for emergenices so this will not happen again. If you have a bully try this product. my girl is doing great. She no longer needs her benedryl either and I do not have to pump her with any allergy shots.

She is happy and feels good. I have learned by reading ingredients in many other dog foods that they are not what they say they are. A lot of products will say chicken free but still use broth. Stella & Chewy is a good clean healthy diet for your dog that has no fillers and none of the ingredients I have been told to keep from feeding my bully.

Not an easy task to find so I am glad this product was recommended to me by an individual who had a Chinese Crested with severe allergies as well. THIS WORKS! just give it a little time. It is not a cheap product but it saves me lots of vet bills and saves me lots of worrying about how to make my dog feel better.

She has been on it for a good while now. I give her no other dog products/food and no table scraps so my next search will be for a Stella and Chewy treat that she can have and will not trigger any allergic reactions.

As much as I would like to give her many of the goodies/snacks sold for dogs to enjoy I would much rather hold back and see her feeling good. it took me what has felt like forever to figure out her allergy issue so hopefully this works for YOUR doggie too.

I’m only giving this 2 star because my dog seems to like it. I will not purchase this again. I figured I would try this instead of Freshpet because it was getting hard to find Freshpet. I read so many great reviews and got it while I had a coupon at the pet store.

It’s super expensive at regular price. It’s not very easy to prepare, you have to crumble up the Pattie’s then rehydrate them. It smells absolutely disgusting. My dog does eat it and seems to like it but it has caused nothing but issues with her stomach and bowels.

I transitioned slowly like it said on the packaging. She’s super constipated and also had diarrhea on and off and you can just tell her stomach is hurting most days. With Freshpet she was totally different, pooping twice a day consistently.

Never had stomach issues. Maybe reconsider this food if your dog seems to have a sensitive stomach.

My Westie is truly the world’s pickiest dog,,, he has pretty bad skin allergies and we have been on the hunt for something a) that he likes and b) that doesn’t aggravate his skin so badly i. e. a limited ingredient product.

So we are on a duck kick right now and that seems to be working pretty well for him. I wanted something to go along with the very wholesome canned duck we have found – so we are using the two together to offset the costs of each product since they are both so great and my dog won’t turn his nose up at it.

In fact, he cannot get enough of these freeze dried sliders. I squish them up, add a little water and put with a 1/3 can of duck. So I can get three meals out of a can (feed twice a day) and I use 3 sliders each meal.

If I fed only the SmallBatch I’d need 4 sliders per meal/for 8 a day. But we’re saving a little bit on that as it is more expensive. But when you look at the ingredients it is everything and more we could dream of and very worth the price.

His allergies are calming down little by little. Also he was battling yeast-ey paws. That’s settling down too. The best part is he does love it. I will say – the first time out of the chute, he didn’t know what to make of it but once he got going, he really seems to love it.

It is a big victory for us! Have to transition to it like any other food.

This food is not for those wanting to feed their dog a just a convenient dry food. This is for the dogs who can’t stop itching, who are licking their paws constantly, for the allergic dogs on temeril-p and apoquel.

Have you ever seen an overweight wolf?? No? Well, Have you ever seen a wolf eat kibble??! NO because it’s not biologically appropriate!!! MOVE OVER TO THE RAW SIDE.
