20 Best Chili For Nachos (2022 Updated)

Here is Houston, it’s rodeo time. Everyone and their dog have chili cook offs to celebrate the theme. My friend, reigning champion of the golfers chili event has only the best ingredients. However, not my preference of ingredients.

Acting snooty, as non meat eaters can do, I was smelling this crazy good smell wafting from his test batch. I had to get some chili. So I got this. Wow. So good. I put this on cauliflower rice with onion and cheese.

I sprinkled a tad of chili powder, but oh ,it was so fine. I crumbled a few tortilla chips on top. I ate this for a week. I’m still not tired of it. I don’t prefer the black bean kind, but this is Texan approved.

I like this chili. Ive bought it for years! There is a light in sodium version that’s just 490 mg per can. This regular version is 1,380 mg per can. Really most people ought to select the lighter sodium one.

It’s better for you. So, Target please consider getting the lower sodium option. This is a great universal chili. Eat it as lunch, dinner, whenever! Great for hot dogs. Excellent wrapped as a burrito.

Have been using this for years. We combine it with a can of crispy corn, heat up nice and hot; melt some cheese on a flour tortilla in the microwave; pour the chili mix down the center, add some hot sauce, fold it up and, voila, a great Mexican style homemade meal.

If we feel like it, add a few tortilla corn chips on the side of the plate. With a cold beer, what could be better. Love Amy’s vegetarian chili.

I really like chili and had a taste for it, but there was not much in stock on the website without buying in bulk. Most brands had way too much sodium for me, even Hormel. but this one had the least of the Hormel varieties.

Also, due to beating a positive colon test, I cannot have red meat any longer and the turkey variety also had way too much sodium. Let’s be real, no one divides that can into two servings; you heat the whole can and pour it into a bowl for “one.

” The honest truth is that you cannot expect it to taste the same as the beefy varieties, but it does have a good enough level of seasonings with the TVP added for texture (the veggie “meatish” pieces).

Vegetarians would love it! I felt it was a suitable way to get my chili fix until I can get a good homemade recipe done (in rehab for now, but mine is spicy and oh so authentico!), and I do treat it the same with toppings of cheese, scallions, crema (if available), olives, hot sauce, diced chilis and/or salsa/pico de gallo.

Unfortunately, the price is inflated like everything else now in our pandemic-apocolyptic world. but worth a try!.

I’m a vegetarian and I do try to eat as much natural, whole food as possible but every once in a while, I get a hankering for some vegetarian chili! It’s largley a cheat meal for me. Sometimes I like to doctor a can of vegetarian chili with beans by adding some extra vegetables {corn, bell peppers, onion, extra tomatoes, chives, etc.

} then dollop with sour cream and add a handful of cheese. Other times, I’ll keep it simple and just heat up the chili as is then make a grilled cheese on the side, especially if consuming for dinner.

My husband is carnivorous so it makes eating meals ‘together’ tricky, but on chili night we each get our own can of Hormel {his jam is Turkey w. Beans} and we get to eat the ‘same’ dinner for the night.

It’s a simple joy this vegetarian appreciates! Four stars as this is high in sodium but it’s a treat/cheat meal type of grab, so I’ll allow it!.

I don’t particularly like to eat canned food, but Hormel chili with beans was a special treat when I was a kid. Most everything we ate was made from scratch as that’s the way it was back then, but my dad liked this chili in a can (maybe from his Army days?) and would buy it from time to time.

It’s crazy to think that chili in a can was a special treat, but it was! Home-made chili is fabulous, and it’s nothing at all like the canned stuff, but having this in my cupboard is a little sentimental, and great when I’m hungry but don’t feel like cooking.

It tastes just as good as it did all those years ago, maybe even better because now it doesn’t have that yucky layer of grease on top. I suppose that makes it healthier now than it was way back then.

You’re not supposed to add water, but once I’ve gotten as much as possible out of the can, I put in a couple tablespoons of water and mix it with a spoon or thin rubber scraper to make sure I get every last little bit out of that can! That little bit of water makes the chili go just a tiny bit further.

I prefer to warm it up on the stove, just till it starts to boil because I like it hot, but you have to stir it often even if you’re using a nonstick pot. I think putting it on a stove tastes far better than putting it in a microwave; it just does.

This is just a step above dog food, I think, though I haven’t tried dog food. I have no doubt there is dog food that tastes, and looks better. I just had the “Homestyle”. It’s very runny, lacks almost ANY chile flavor, and looks NOTHING like what is shown on the can!!! I took pics and will try to post.

I did finish it because I was really hungry but am already regretting it and still have its terrible aftertaste in my mouth. It’s gross!! Argh… I can’t find a way to post pics, 🤮Anyone posting that this Chile is anywhere better than okay is either lying or has never had any even semi-decent Chile in their life! (Maybe they have Covid and can’t actually taste it).

Great taste, the best for chili dogs! I live in assisted living and don’t have much of a kitchen, so I’m always looking for things that are easy to put together with a microwave, an air fryer, a counter-top contact grill, and a toaster.

One of my favorite meals is cooked rice topped with this chili and finished with grated Colby-jack cheese. I get enough for two meals from one can. OK, not exactly gourmet fine dining, but tasty! I keep it on hand always.

I bought this earlier this year to stock up during COVID. There was only one review and it was quite positive so I bought a lot. Well I’m not sure what the other person was eating, but this is not good at all.

The texture, it’s so goopy. It’s insanely salty. There’s no way someone could enjoy this by itself unless a person was starving during a pandemic. I’m thinking I should donate the rest of the cans when there’s a food drive since some food is better than no food.

It tasted better after I added cheese, green onions, sour cream, avocado, cilantro. onions are great for some type of texture! I really expected a better product since the reviewer was so enthusiastic.

Really disappointed since I love a good bowl of spicy chili. Also it wasn’t spicy at all.

If I could give zero Stars I would. my daughter cannot eat meat in any shape or form. Life depends on it. This is a medical condition and very dangerous for my daughter. We bought vegetarian Hormel chili and there was meat in it.

Made my daughter extremely sick. When contacting”Jenny” in Customer service she would not listen her response was there were no other reports of the issue. WHAT? Never looked into the problem just blamed my family and VTP can look like meat.

Life and death.

This is great tasting chili. There’s no argument there. It tastes exactly how I’d expect a decent canned chili to taste. It just looks completely disgusting in a bowl. There’s almost no texture, and the color is a sickly, pale orange.

It’s awful. So I wouldn’t recommend serving this on its own, but it does make a killer chili dog, and would probably work well as an ingredient for other recipes, like a queso dip. If Wolf ever wanted to make the perfect canned chili, they’d take this stuff and add chunks of unprocessed meat to it, leaving out the oats (or beans) filler.

I’d buy that at twice the price.

Horrible chili, feels like there is lime juice or something making the chili tarty. Like how can you mess up making chili!?!?! Even chili dispensed by machines in gas stations taste like the real thing compared to this trash.

If you love this chili, you must be a sociopath.

I bought a case at a good sale price. I have only had one can but, it is good. When I open the next can, I am going to mash the beans with my hand potato masher and add a little hot sauce. The chilli is very mild but, it is excellent in a cheese omelette sprinkled with onions (I used half the can).

The second half of the can, I put the chilli on warm tortillas with grated Mexican cheese, chopped onions, spicey hot jalapeno sliced peppers, and sour cream. EXCELLENT!.

About 40 years ago, we were living in Wisconsin. This is where I first tasted Chili Man chili. Since then we moved Tennessee, then California, then North Carolina, and finally retired in Florida. Chili Man chili was not available in all those states.

but I was able to find Chili Man on line from Walmart. This is definitely the best chili. We just love it.

Purchased this product on trial for home and business use. I opened this can and was quite satisfied with the taste and quality. I prepare a Greek style chili and this worked well as a base at a fraction of the cost.

Add two cinnamon sticks two chopped onions three stalks of celery a #10 can of furmanos whole tomatoes a can of this chili and adjust the heat level as needed an stand back as a hungry crowd makes it disappear.

I’m pretty picky when it comes to chilis, and this one is pretty good. I enjoy the flavor, and it has pretty good nutrition ( a lot of chilis have 50% more calories per serving and worse flavor!) The price is fairly reasonable, especially for the quality.

Vanee Chili with beans made for a great meal. With enough for the entire family, and then some. Everyone enjoyed it. I would highly recommend ordering a can.

It’s totally fine but I did not enjoy eating it either. It’s at least a thicker chili which seems impossible to find now that I moved to the mid-west where Dennison’s is unavailable but it just tastes kind of weird every-other-bite and the texture is actually a lot more watery than the picture shows.

This is a good backup “I don’t have much of any other options” type of chili, totally acceptable but I’d rather not eat it again.

Wow, I’ve had more than a few cans of cheap chili in my life but this stuff stands out as being the worst tasting variety I ever experienced. I suppose all canned chili is high in fat and sodium but the flavor is horrible to my taste.

The great value chili is nothing outstanding but far better than this. I expected better from Armour.

The worst I’ve ever had the horror of trying. I am a little finicky and tend to try every brand I can find of certain items I like, I don’t think I have tried EVERY brand that makes canned chili with/without beans.

But, I have tried a lot (6ish) and my conclusion has been never to purchase this company nor WOLF canned anything. The chili was grayish in color and had a bitter aftertaste without any flavor.

If you like the heartiness of chili with beans, then you will love the Vanee brand. The chili is very flavorful and the beans add a nice touch. We use this as a starter and add fresh onions and tomatoes.

I think Bush’s has the best beans so I was very excited to try out the chili starter kit. Just as the beans, the chili kit did not disappoint. Being able to take that extra help in the kitchen anytime you can is a big help.

It truly couldn’t have been any easier. Browned the hamburger meat, chopped onions, garlic and I personally like to add the Rotel tomatoes for that extra zing. I did also add a additional can of pinto beans as well and just a few extra spices too.

It takes no time whatsoever to prepare this chili and it taste like it’s been cooking all day long. Extremely flavorful! So many yummy things you can do with this chil. Of course traditional bowl of chili, add a generous scoop to a baked potato with any type of fixings, or even any cooked pasta noodle.

You can get quite creative without having to really go to much trouble. Also great when making homemade nachos. So many tasty things that you can do. I always like making a large pot of chili so there’s plenty of leftovers for the next day for minimal time in the kitchen and always guaranteed to know everyone is going to be loving the endless options that are available to have a tasty meal from the Bush’s chill starter kit!.

I love Bush’s beans, however this particular flavor “Chili Magic” didn’t contain much magic. It’s basically a small can of pinto beans with a mild cumin/chili flavor. To make the chili, one has to add, 1 lb of meat, onion and a can of tomatoes.

It says not to drain the tomatoes. I drained the tomatoes because I wasn’t using a full pound of meat. In my opinion if you did use a pound of meat it would be a lot of meat and not much beans and not much flavor.

If I was going to add ALL the fixin’s for chili I might as well just use a can of Bush’s Pinto beans and add my own spices. Overall the flavor was just OK, pretty mild tasting chili. It needed more spice and more beans and less liquid.

I love these chili beans. It’s great that they come in mild medium and hot varieties. I tried the medium and they were just that. I like a lot of heat but my wife likes things milder. The medium were good for both of us.

The chili seasoning is very tasty and flavorful. I think I would probably add a little more spice if I were making chili with a meat. I used the beans to make one of my favorite lunches. I added them to ramen noodles, added some peanuts and a couple spoonfuls of chili pepper sauce.

They were fantastic! Bush’s makes the best canned beans on the store shelf. I highly recommend them.

This Backpacker’s Pantry meal is a “2 serving” pouch of dehydrated chili and beans that just takes some boiling water and time to enjoy. It asks for 1 1/4 cup of boiling water, which is easy enough, but it would be nice if there was an approximate fill-line on the inside, since it might not be easy to measure that amount depending on the labels on your boiler.

I like that it seemed to be able to stand freely when filled, making it easy to use the pouch as the preparation vessel. The main drawback is that it is quite a bit deeper than it needs to be, even when filling with water.

So when I went to eat out of it with my spork, I basically had to get my hand in there too. It was certainly tasty enough, and seemed well cooked after following the instructions. The only thing is that I’d really consider the entire pouch a single meal, not two, unless it was accompanied by something else fairly substantial.

If you like your chili spicy, this is a good mix for you! You will feel the heat; not nose running OMG spicy, but good southern chili “yeah, that’s got some kick,” spicy! I liked it and I can be pretty finicky – especially with dehydrated trail foods.

I found it to filling. The instructions to prep were accurate. I suppose the only thing I didn’t like and reason for four stars was it has cheese and that cheese sticks to whatever you stir with. Cleaning was a pain.

Actually if we had half stars that’s probably all I would have docked for such a trivial matter.

I wasn’t able to go backpacking but I took this great meal on a day trip and it was really good. I mostly eat vegetarian meals when backpacking and this is one of the better selections I have tried. The beans are great.

The cheese tastes like real cheese and the flavoring is awesome. It re-hydrated into normal tasting food. I find that these kinds of meals are getting better all of the time and the ingredients are all really healthy.

This one will become a regular on my trips.

I am forever messing with my Chili recipe, but nothing I come up with ever makes my husband Happy, UNTIL now! Today, I made a big pot of chili using 1 package of this “Darn Good” Chili Mix. I pretty much followed the directions of using 1 – 6 oz.

can of tomato paste and 7 cups of water. I also decided to use some of the extra ingredients that are suggested on the package for the Smoky Beef Chili version, but I modified that just a bit. Because my husband does not like a hot flavored chili, and because he does love lots of beans in his Chili, I added 1 can of drained Pinto beans, and 1 can of drained Red Kidney beans.

I also added the 1 can of the diced tomatoes and their liquid. I only added 1 lb. of lean ground beef because that was all I had on hand. I browned beef with some salt, pepper and 2 level Tsp’s of Knorr Beef Bouillon powder.

fter I added all that stuff together I simered it all for arund 20 minutes, uncovered. Menwhile I decided to saute up 1 can of corn with a lot of black pepper, as my husband really loves that. I 1st drain the corn, reserving all of the liquid! Then I sauté the corn in a tsp or 2 of butter.

As it cooks, I slowly add the reserved corn liquid. The liquid sort of gets thick and eventually caramelizes with the sautéed corn and the ground black pepper. After it is a yummy carnalized consistency, I added all of it to the pot of chili.

I let that simmer for another 5 or 10 minutes, then I covered the pot and turned off the heat and let that sit about an hour. I served this chili with a side of brown rice that I cooked and flavored with beef bouillon powder and a tablespoon of dried cilantro added into the pot while the rice cooked.

This chili is not soupy. It turned out thick, rich and delish and both my husband and I were very happy with the results. So, now I have come back to buy some more of this delicious “Darn Good” Chili to always have a few packages on hand in my pantry.

it’s a soup, not a thick, rich chili. it’s watery and bland. it’d be great for emergency supplies or camping because all you really need is water. if you’re looking for a full bodied dinner chili, this ain’t.

I’ve added spices and beans, tomato paste and onions, heck it’d been easier to make from scratch rather than try to save it.

I was expecting a more substantial soup, thicker without all of the unexpected ingredients, i. e. , rice. It was a high fiber soup with so many bean skins that were tough. They did not really soften.

This was a dry mix and beans do dry out , sometimes not cooking completely. That seemed to be the case with this mix. The result was just too much fiber. I don’t know how to phrase it politely, but if I had been in Afghanistan, I could have mentioned ‘Kabul Trots’.

The rating of two stars was given because of the bean skin issue. I was surprised since other Bear Creek Soup Mixes have been satisfactory in all points, as far as I am concerned. This one just isn’t for me.

I will make my mother’s chili soup which was ground beef, tomatoes, kidney beans, diced potatoes, water and Mexene Chili Powder. Yes, it was a typical Midwest recipe. Not very authentic. Today would be a good day for it-it’s raining in Tucson!! Sorry, Bear Creek people.

I’m so glad I found this brand. I was looking for a “hot” chili that was cheap and had failed in my first try with another brand. This is a true thick chili with a decent amount of meat to bean ratio.

Sadly the heat seems to come from one ingredient but it does the trick. You get a nice heat on the back of the tongue as you swallow it. Also the heat doesn’t linger in the mouth. I like cheese on my chili and used a mild cheese blend.

But this chili could easily hold up with a stronger cheese, like a sharp cheddar. I was surprised to get extremely mild sniffles especially since other canned ‘hot’ chili never do that. And even though I can’t eat spicy like I use to I was able to easily eat this.

I use to make homemade chili as well as both enter and judge chili competitions. This cheaper brand surprised me at how good it was. I’m so glad I spent the ridiculous time searching Walmart online for an alternative cheap “hot” chili.

I will definitely be ordering more.

I definitely like this product a lot. Everytime I grocery shop I’m always purchasing a couple cans of these chilli beans. I like these better than any other brands I’ve tried. I use it it goes several different things, chilli dogs, nachos, etc.

I will even eat them by themselves. I recommend this product to my friends and family for sure.
