We purchased this for my sons 18th birthday and it is a big hit! He really likes it. we all do! It looks great on our living room coffee table and everyone who sees it complements it. The pieces are nice and heavy (I like that).

It looks really cool when your playing, almost as if the dragons are actually battling for their kingdom. If you like chess and are into fantasy type stuff like this, you won’t be dissapointed. As one person already commented on, the pieces can be a litle confusing (am I moving my knight or my bishop), but it’s really not a big deal and after you have played a few times you recognize them quite easily.

The cool factor far out-ways the need to double check which player you are moving! Geart set.

This is a great chess board that I use game night with the family. My grandparents got this for me so we could play chess together. It’s got beautiful detail, and definitely gets the wow factor when people see it.

He pieces have great detail, as does the board. Now here’s what I don’t like about it: The glass board doesn’t quite fit perfectly inside the decorative base. It fits and won’t slide off, it just looks uneven in the corners: it’s not an exact fit.

And the pieces are going to take some getting used to. Right now it’s hard to distinguish which piece is which. I expected that though.

The product was of a fair to good quality. One of the little knobs on the black queen came off, which I had to re-glue. Also, the inner side of the board had an imperfection that made that the inner part that holds the pieces did not fit perfectly, which I also had to fix.

The pieces are a bit light and need a bit of weighting. But these were all minor issues. Otherwise the set looks decently finished (especially the board) and pretty. The fact that it is different from a conventional Staunton set makes it special.

I bought this for my grandson who competes in chess tournaments. He was stunned when he opened his present and couldn’t get over how beautiful it was. The carving and attention to detail is outstanding.

I highly recommend this as a gift that will keep on giving for many years.

Generally attractive, the pieces need to be weighted a little, so i chose to insert some led from my fishing equipment- now they feel better to play and stay put on the beautiful board – i also used some clear resin to give the pieces more impact , including the board – put new black velvet dots on the bottoms of all the pieces, and four of them on the bottom of the board looks like a $1000.

This little roll is nicely made. It is a good size – and the flexibility allows it to be packed easily.

I gave this to my husband as a gift because we love to play board games and be outside. This two for one makes it easy and convenient as we spend time in the outdoors or traveling. Not to mention we LOVE the design.

I was looking for a unique chess set for my teenage sons’ b-day. After looking at numerous sets (including the Harry Potter set, which is pretty awesome), I came across the Umbra Buddy Chess Set. I loved the modern look of the pieces and game board, but hoped it was as nice as it appeared in the pics.

I was not disappointed. The pieces have a beautiful finish and they have a nice weight to them, with felt bottoms that allow them to glide across the board. The wood box also has a nice weight and finish, and when you remove the playing board, the interior has a dense foam with laser cutouts for each piece.

The pieces fit snuggly in the box for storage, but look super cool sitting out on the board for display. Finally, the board itself is also solid and heavy, with a mirrored playing surface and a velvet-like fabric on the back side.

My son was thrilled when he opened it, and has loved playing with it since. This is a pricer set, but something he’ll have for a lifetime. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for something with a more contemporary flair, as well as being a great piece of art for a room.

Well packaged for delivery. Excellent quality pieces, nice and heavy. Beautiful finish. The board is tricky to nest back into wooden frame though. If you have difficulty with fine motor issues, it may be a challenge.

Wow! This chess set is amazing quality. Love that the game board fits on the box for storage and that there are individual areas for each piece. The game pieces are heavy and have such a unique look.

My son loved his chess set, the figures are plastic but feel nice and heavy and are quite a good larger size. They have fabric drawstring bags for each colour and a good quality box.

Good variety of games. A little short on instructions on how to play some of the games. So we told the grandkids to Google it. Felt on the bottom so it won’t scratch surfaces.

This is a great set. Nice and sturdy. The price is very affordable too.

Handsomely carved wooden chess pieces, with each king about 2. 5inches high. The pieces are provided inside the chess board, which when opened has the full board on the outside. The only slight downside is the storage of the wooden pieces in a plastic mould for each piece that seems very flimsy and lets down the quality of the set.

But eh board and pices are fine which is what its all about.

Looks good, pleasing artwork and colours. However, it is very lightweight in construction, a heavier board and pieces would give this set more of a quality feel, which it lacks. The board folds in half and encloses the pieces neatly but the latch/hinges are quite fragile.

Notwithstanding these points, it is an impressive looking chess set.

Very happy with this. The board and pieces are stunning, the carved decoration makes this look like a much more expensive chess set. Comfortable large size, felt sliders under each piece. The only way I can think of improving this is by adding a bit of weight to the pieces, but that is a minor thing.

We liked the familiarity of the pieces and the wood has a good feel. The case is lined and it stays locked when transporting. We especially like the European King and Queen, they are easily recognized.

The only piece that is hard to distinguish during play is the bishop. Confused with the pawns, it could have been a little taller to make it easier to find. It made a wonderful gift for my father.

I bought this chess set to play chess with my husband and I am very pleased with the product. I like that the board is the case. I also like that it is not like a checker board, it has letters and numbers down the sides the way a chess board should have.

The inside of the case/board is lined with velvety kind of material which protects the pieces, a plus indeed. The pieces themselves are beautiful.

The king and queen are non-staunton design and done VERY well. The letters and numbers on the rank and file look like a 3rd grader did them with a wood burning kit. Over all it serves the purpose of being light, portable and affordable.

This set is much lighter weight than I expected but when I opened it, BEAUTIFUL. Wow, the wood is pristine and the pieces are solid wood as well. They are held in place inside the board so no worries about them getting chipped or lost.

SO glad I purchased. I cannot wait to give as a gift. I am slightly concerned about the hinges – they don’t seem the greatest quality and may wear out soon if it is played a lot. Overall very happy with my purchase.

You cannot find a better all wooden chess set for this price ! Ordered 10 more of them for our chess club to give to kids starting out. That makes 40 so far this year !

The manufacturer left excess glue on the product giving it an unclean appearance. The advertising mislead me as I thought the pieces would be magnetized, not the closure. We bought this board specifically believing the pieces would not be easily disturbed by my son’s little family.

We knew the magnetic hold was possible even with the wood finish because we own another set that features that capability. We would return this board but wouldn’t be able to get a replacement in time for a special date.

Great design I ordered this as a gift for my partner who collects chess sets. I thought it looked a bit ‘ cheap and plastic’ for the price but he was happy with it. It’s different, modern and reminds us of our visits to our capital city.

I’m not sure how practical it would be to actually play with but he is using it for ornamental purpose so that’s fine. It was well packaged and arrived in good time and condition 😃.

Good board but the metal clasp for keeping the board closed when folded up gets in the way while playing.

Bought this as a Christmas gift. the box originally came dented, however, the vendor (OJ Commerce) was so gracious to send a replacement. The friendly experience with the vendor is why I rate this game as a 5 star.

The board is cheap plastic, came as partially bent, there is no way I can flatten it. The pieces are cheap plastic, very light-weight, and because the board is partially bent, the pieces have tendency to occasionally slide off.

Not worth the money!.

Very cheap material; the board is be turned slippery and the chess may fly over the board given its light weight. The red/black color is an odd design but it is useable.

Nothing about this set is made of wood, it’s 100% injection molded plastic. The hinges and board itself are all one piece with the hinges already stretched to the point of losing color. The board will definitely snap in two simply from regular use.

The squares on the board themselves are just a large printed sticker. I figured maybe the pieces themselves might be wood but no, they’re also injection molded plastic. Everything about this product is a lie.

The photo primary shown isn’t the set you’ll be getting. If you want to see what you’ll actually receive, check out the second photo. Even the title for this product is written to mislead. Natural Boxwood Chessmen is a bald-faced lie.

They aren’t wooden, they’re plastic. You can see the injection seams down the sides. Marrakech Decoupage Chess Board, while an accurate description, intentionally leaves out the word plastic to make it sound fancier than what it actually is.

I want to clarify that I don’t blame Walmart specifically for this. They shipped it swiftly and are handling the return wonderfully. I wish they’d tighten down on sellers who are clearly misleading shoppers as it ruins an otherwise great experience.

The set itself is decent; however, it does not look anything like the main photo (looks like the second photo). Additionally, the description says 17 inch board but this is 11 inches. Also, the pieces are nowhere near as tall as the description states.

Finally, even though the pieces are magnetic as described, the magnet under the pieces are not strong enough and the pieces would still shift if not played on a completely stable surface.

I ordered several games and this is the first one I received. It arrived in perfect condition inside a box with paper. The game box itself has a manufacturers plastic wrap, which is great for protecting the box corners, etc (very nice especially for gift giving).

The game board folds and snaps closed to store the game pieces inside. There is a slight magnetism to it which aids in keeping pieces put. The pieces are good for small and large hands. There is a brief instruction sheet with a small image of the set up of pieces to the board.

My only con would be the instruction sheet because for new players, the image is very small/faint and we don’t know what a rook is or which is the bishop and so on. I did set it up correctly but I also went online to view images to make sure I did.

I’ve always wanted to learn to play chess. Better late than never. Games are rather pricey today and this one worthy of the present $14 price point. It’s especially good for children and for those such as myself, just learning to play.

Additionally, I believe its good for everyone wanting a simple chess set for home or away. I’m very pleased with it.

for a n advertised “quality” item, I expected better storage of pieces. the moulding is cheap, the rooks do not fit the moulding space for them. otherwise the item is good. The pieces themselves are quite light in weight.

in all, not the quality expected for the dollar paid. I have now ordered another set. maybe this one can be a gift !.
