20 Best Gloves For Sailing (2022 Updated)

The gloves are too small although I ordered and received a Large size. Perhaps the manufacturer needs to look at their sizing criteria for the European market place. I have medium to small hands. M&S have a similar sizing problem!.

I bought this for myself and usually wear a small. This runs a bit small and I,hope they will stretch slightly. Helly Hansen makes the finest sailing gear. If in doubt on size try some on first. Happy with this purchase.

Bought these gloves for rope handling and they live up to expectation. Initially thought the end finger may rub – however they wore in immediately and are in fact very comfortable. I took the advice of other reviews in their reports of go up a size.

With most products I’m a size large so on this occasion I ordered XL. They fit perfectly. Hard wearing and well made.

Judging by build quality alone I don’t think I will have any issues with this product. The fit is perfect. They look great, already getting compliments, and questions as to where I purchased these gloves.

I believe I will start switching out gear to Gill Marine products in the future.

I actually use these when walking the dog – always on a long lead. They prevent rope burn when the dog takes off after something 🙂 are great all weather gloves and because of the free finger and thumb can clip leads etc or use the phone if you need to.

I normally wear XL gloves. I could barely get these on my hand and could not bend my fingers. Tried the XXL and they were also way too tight to wear.

My wife and I have been racing small keelboat for a long time. We both have used the same Harken Black Magic gloves for nearly 10 years. They are soft, comfortable, grip well when wet, and dry fast. I have two other brands of gloves in my sailbag that I will never wear.

She bought me new Harken Black Magic gloves for my birthday and I look forward to using them. I think I will give away the other gloves in my bag and keep my old Harkens for backup.

The first couple of pair that I used lasted really well. The last pair just desentigrated in one season. The working part, the palms and the inside of the fingers seemed to be good quality leather and lasted pretty well.

The remainder of the leather was really cheap leather and it just tore to shreads. It seems that they tried to save costs and got really cheap with the heal of the palm, the part that wraps arount the thumb and the sides of the fingers.

I tried to keep using them because the working parts were still in reasonable shape but they just wouldn’t stay on my hands. To bad. These used to be good gloves and the rest of the crew started buying them when they saw how good the first pair lasted.

I own and race a 33 ft sloop in the great lakes. One to two times a week, May – Sept. As owner, I play all positions at some point in time. I would recommend them, but I would look them over good first.

I like the feel and wear of Harken gloves. I bought the 1st & current pair to wear on vacation last June. Nine days of 6+ hours of sailing per day & , every other weekend since of 6+ hrs sailing time a day.

Still going strong. I wear MCML in a golf glove, so this gloves is a touch short in length. Adjusting the movements of the sheets to your palm when dumping air works great. No wear or tear in the palm either or burning on fingertips.

I always by 2 of everything for back up and , the large size is for the crew. Planning to finish the season with this same pair as another vacation is coming up next month. Awesome!.

Great quality, great price, very practical. I bought the adult size for me and the junior size for my son. Mine are perfect, the only problem was that my son is 11 and the gloves are very tight. He has managed to squeeze them on and I’m hoping they will stretch.

We’ve only had them a couple of weeks so only worn a couple of times but they appear robust and I am sure they will last (providing his hands don’t grow too quickly). So you need to ensure your buying the correct size when choosing junior.

Other than that, recommended. Excellent product by a trusted manufacturer at a VERY reasonable price.

I purchased these for sailing school in the San Juan Islands. They can take a while to dry in rainy weather. For sunny/windy days they are perfect. High quality. No issues with glove performance, held up well.

Glad to have them, they saved my hands! Sizing chart is spot on. Performed best on dry days.

The gloves fit great, and kept their size and shape well. They are precurved, which feels very comfortable and natural. That said, there is one major flaw in the cut of the glove: the edge of the index finger is canted at a too extreme angle (the length on the top of the finger is longer than the underside; on the top it’s between the 1st and 2nd joints, but on the bottom it’s at the 2nd joint).

It’s to allow more mobility, but far too much of the underside of the finger is exposed. I got dreadful rope burn because of it. Additionally, they are absolutely not durable. What looks like grey suede is actually some form of man made material — and the finger tips are all made of this material.

6 weeks and about 450 nautical miles later and the gloves are completely trashed. All of the finger tip pads have thinned and frayed, and several are completely worn through. It took 11 months of similar sailing for my basic, but leather, Harken gloves to wear out.

I do not recommend these Gill gloves.

I needed to replace my old pair, after many years of use. These are not exactly cheap, but they are really perfect for windsurfing and kiteboarding. They keep the sun off your hands, and there’s no padding like cycling gloves, so there’s no added thickness to the grip.

The gloves provide better grip than the bear hands too.

I got the largest size offered, XL, which seems more like a size-L. I also have the half-finger version of this glove in an XL, which seems more true to size. I’m not sure I can wear the full-finger version without feeling cramped.

Product meets expectations, but delivery of same did anything but. Was given a 3 day delivery. DHL went through pains to lie about being unable to deliver for 4 additional days before finally delivering the product to a local drop rather than my home.

Missed getting gloves before a big sailing trip. Very unimpressed to say the least. Note to Gill: find another overseas delivery agent or get a firmer handle on DHL!.

As part of the Kastking Voices of the Angler program this is a honest review to improve on these extremely nice gloves. I have no problems tying knots, casting, handling fish with these. I can do everything with the gloves on, with protection, as I can without them on and sacrificing protection.

The fit and comfort leave you forgetting you have gloves on at all. The only issue one glove has some bad thread in the stitching near the wrist. See photo. The locking stitch didn’t hold on 1 glove allowing the top stitch to pull loose Which I understand how that could be missed during inspection at the apparel manufacturer.

I will be passing this information on to Kastking VOA program for QC review. But overall I will still give the Gill Raker Gloves 5 Stars for now. Compared to other brands I’ve used. A Video Review to follow.

Been using this glove for about 1 week now of consistant fishing from the jettys in Rhode Island. These gloves are very durable, strong, light weight and are built to last. I really enjoy the hard padding on the hand and the strap on the wrist which helps with keeping the glove on my hand.

One of my favorite things about this glove is that it is thin and also protects my hand from the sun compared to other brands that let my hand get burned through the thin cheap fabric. If you are in a hot and sunny place and plan to fish, kayak, or do anything else near the water for a long amount of time I highly recommend these gloves.

Just bought them and used during a 35 hour sailing race. They seem about the same as the Gill or West Marine gloves I usually wear. At least so far. Cant tell much from first 35 hours of use about how durable they are.

But so far theyre fine. They do run a bit smaller than the other brands but not uncomfortably snug.

Just reordered as I lost one of the first ones – very comfortable and durable, easily as good as those in the marine stores at 3 times the price. I race on sailboats and put a lot of wear on them trimming spinnakers.

Now my go to glove. The size chart is good, got the XL and fit perfectly.

I picked these up after two different paddle sessions causing the same brutal blisters on my thumb and sunburns on the back of my hands. I agree with other reviews that the fingers are a bit tight. I have narrow fingers and small hands so they fit me well regardless.

If you got chunk mitts for hands these will not be for you. Due to their narrowness, they are incredibly difficult to get off when wet. It takes lots of little inching over the knuckles until you can grasp and pull them off.

The padding on the hands and fingers are quite nice. The padding was over the region where I had blisters and was so comfortable I could paddle comfortably despite them. I really appreciate them being sun protective fabric.

I had a still-healing sunburn and the gloves protected it, but as they got more and more soaked I felt like I had less sun protection as my sunburn hurt more. UPF fabric can be less effective when wet, so I hope that it was just due to a pre-existing sunburn and not that the gloves themselves are becoming less effective as they dampen.

Overall, for their price, they’re pretty solid gloves. I anticipate getting tons more use out of them.

I’ve used an earlier version of this glove and this current model. I like the glove very much. Makes it unnecessary to wax paddle for a good grip, and helps to toughen fingers/thumb early in season avoiding blisters.

Problem is that with both models the seam (sown with thread) on at least one digit unraveled after initial light use. On latest model, left index finger unraveled quickly and right index finger is almost open.

My recollection is that my older pair unraveled at the thumbs– it appears that the current model added reinforcement for the thumbs.

I bought these for sun protection, but love them for all the other features that come with them. They dry quickly–the drainage holes are fantastic. The leather on the palm is so soft an flexible. They aren’t hot.

And, of course, fingerless is always a plus. These are the perfect summer glove for rafting or kayaking. I can’t quite decide if I wished I bought a size up or not because they are a little tricky to take off.

I usually end up pulling them off inside out.

The gloves are great quality and delivery was prompt but seem to have been labelled with the wrong size as they were too small for me to get any of my hand in. I sold them to a friend who usually wears extra small! Another friend also bought some and found the same problem.

Style: short finger. Size: extra large. The gloves do not grip the sheets very well. A leather material might work better. The Amara fabric on the palm buckles when I make a fist.

Absolute garbage. First time putting them on, stitching ripped at the cuff of one glove. During the next two days of sailing, they progressed to breakdown – it is as if they were made of paper – palm leather fell apart, finger tips tore.

Maybe a bad pair, but easily the worst pair of gloves I’ve ever tried.

Excellent quality and fit! I’ll see how long they last vs other brands I have used in the past. Happy with the sale price too!

2nd pair. Last pair lasted longer than similar Gill, Harken, and WM gloves. On my old pair the fabric cuff separated from the leather palm at the base of the palm. After I bought the new pair my wife repaired the old pair, so now they are my spare pair.

Comfortable thin and light but longer wearing than all other similar gloves I have tried. I avoided these gloves in the past because the “Sticky Palm” was too sticky. Seems like they’v changed/fixed that.

These gloves are great. They easily fit into the tournament gloves for a great two layer system!!! I highly recommend these gloves!!

Active bibs and performance gloves are well made and live up to their name. Gill makes great products.

Nice lightweight glove for fishing in. Nonrestrictive and a great fit.

Ordered from Gill Aust. site. No local marine stores stocking the Gill gloves. Whitworths Melb. only had the long finger sets Required the upgrade model as my previous gloves had worn out. Best gloves I have used racing so ordering the new Pro model a given.

They are a much tighter fit brand new than the old. Have worn them a while around the house to break them in and wet them a couple times. First regatta this weekend, so will know how good the new pro gloves are after four days racing.

Not as easy to velcro the glove tabs together to keep as a set after taking off.

I have used Gill gloves for many years and typically get two years before thay start to look shabby. The new design is a lot lighter which is not a problem exept for this weekend which was the first windy sail the palm and finger reinforecement melted when easing the spinnaker tackline leaving only the thin leather to protect my hand.

I have contacted Gill regarding this but no reply.

They seem to be nicely constructed, but the ‘Large’ is at least a size too small. I have an average to slightly large hand (wear a size 8 surgical glove, for those who care) and these are more likely to fit someone with a 7 or even slightly smaller.

Even the fingers are tight – and mine are long and slender. Ouch!.

This is my 3rd pair. They fit perfectly and I find the cut off finger length is long so’s really it’s mostly finger tips exposed, which is great for photography and any other pursuit that requires sensitive touch.

the flexibility is great and they are a snug fit for my Medium hand. they fit perfectly.

I find these sailing gloves essential as any sailor will know ropes are not very forgiving. These gloves fit well and are easy to put on and having fingers free is a bonus as this keeps the hands very dexterous while still having robust protection on the palm of the hands.

These gloves are good value and offer a reasonably priced sailing glove. They will do what you want although if you want a perfect fit or top quality expect to pay a lot more money.

These Lanterns are great for hunting,fishing,camping or working on your truck at night. They come in really handy when ever you need light. I have been using them most my life and always have a couple hanging on a rusty nail where I use them most.

I really like theses older ones because they are affordable. And, Coleman still makes replacement parts for them. The parts are not hard to find and they are affordable as well. Just a all around good quality item made in the USA by an old American company that still stands behind their product.

Mine are over 50 years old and run as good as ever. Happy Guy.

I sail a traditionally built, gunter rigged Norfolk sailing cruiser. I need gloves that will help me hang onto a wind filled mainsail. Unfortunately these gloves have zero grip !! I had to replace them immediately with gloves from another manufacturer which could actually have some grip on the mainsheet.

Only used them twice so still early days. They look like good quality and fit comfortably but probably should have ordered a size smaller as they are a little ‘baggy’ across the palm. but thats my fault.

They are a but ‘stiff’ which makes holding the kayak paddle a bit ‘loose’ but with time i’m hoping they will soften up and better mould to the paddle.

these are the best sailing gloves. Nice long reach over the wrist, tabs on fingers to pull off, good close fit and they just move with the hand. Excellent gloves

OUTSTANDING Quality and functionality. Had a pair of these gloves for nearly 10 years and they are still going strong, but decided to treat the hands and fingers to a new pair. and these are even better than the last, slightly longer wrist cover than the previous design, which is an excellent design change and the finger pull tabs are brilliant and make taking the gloves off so much easier.

Totally built to last, forgive the pun but they fit like a glove.

Gloves are just what I wanted kept hands warm and enabled full use of fingers on cold days.

I cant fault the gloves for the money, but they are synthetic leather, so misleading
