20 Best Glue For Headliner (2022 Updated)

Polymat 797 works as advertised. I highly recommend it. The adhesive holds strong and applies evenly. Follow the directions on the can and you shouldnt have any issues. Ive tried many types of contact adhesives for doing the headliner of my vehicle.

Theyve included two different 3m adhesives, Loctite and Weld Wood. They either dont apply well or wont hold the headliner to the backer and they fail with in a month or two of the installation. Polymat 797 has been great so far.

Its lasted longer than anything Ive used. Hopefully this is the last time Ill have to replace my headliner.

I used this product on the only headliner install Ive done. In reading reviews there were others who complained of it not adhering and falling off. I dont know what method they used. But, if you apply liberally and remove the old foam completely from the headliner itll work just fine.

I used this on 98 f-150 single cab and I went through one whole can and part of the second. And that was due to my liberal application. I would recommend this to anyone. Great product.

Sprays on very well, and there is enough glue in four cans to do a headliner in an extended cab Silverado. Glad is ready for applying the liner in five minutes. It holds the liner really well while you fit it to all the recess areas and work your way out to the sides and ends.

You can reinstall the headliner in an hour or two. All in all this is a great glue for headliners. Works really well.

there is a fair amount of labor to do this job so I wanted a name brand product that I trusted. for the size I did, 3′ x 5′ of fabric, I still have quite a bit left in the can, using an overlapping Medium width spray pattern.

The glue goes on fairly well and was easy to control. Working alone is probably not the best option, but taking my time it was ok, just be careful not to let the surfaces touch. NOTE: be sure to fully remove the existing headliner and the left over foam on the substrate so the glue will adhere properly.

A smaller size wire brush dragging it on its side (kind of like combing) then vacuum off the dust worked well. Careful, the substrate is easy to damage, be fairly gentile. One more time wipe down and vacuum the surface to be sure all the old foam is gone!!! With the new fabric laid out evenly, fold back 1/2 of the fabric and spray both the fabric then the substrate.

The can says to make contact with tacky, so waiting a couple minutes worked on mine. This is where 2 persons is helpful: starting at the center smooth the fabric trying not to stretch it out. Work your way from the center to the sides then to the end.

Duplicate the same process on the other end. I let it dry over night and flipped it in the morning to fold some back on the rear to keep it in place. One other note, be sure your hands are clean if you use light fabric like mine.

My headliner and door liners had come loose and fallen. Rob was amazing. He showed me how to use product and demonstrated how to himself. I and he were able to use and get all the fallen materials back in place using the adhesive.

Pretty pricey. Works well. 1 can was not enough to do my dodge ram quadcab headliner. Had to buy another can. Bought locktight adhesive for less than half the price and it held great too

This adhesive comes in arosal can is easy to apply, strong hold. I use it on foam, fabric, headliners, and so much more. After trying several adhesives, this is my prefered to use. Sprays a nice wide spray works great.

The can being rounded at the top is a bit of a challenge for me, since my hands are small, the can slips a littlle and I find it necessary to reajust it.

used to do headliners in cars. Awesome adhesion- That High Performance brand name is junk this stuff blows it away!!

Worked on Toyota thin fabric headliner very well. One wet coat and the material stuck well. Gave it few hours to dry completely. The product is very very sticky and if it gets on your hands it’s not coming off with the usual cleaning, not even alcohol.

To remove it from surfaces or skin use brake clean, spray that on a towel and wipe the surface and/or hands.

The Permatex spray was used for my headliner in my vehicle. I sprayed the fabric, pressed it on and put a little painters tape to hold it while it dried. The next day I carefully removed the tape and voilla! You could not tell the fabric had come down at all.

Works Great, if you are using it in automobiles, boats, RV,s whether it is inside or out you need this. It will stick where other contact cement will not because of the high summer heat. The stuff is easy to use, roll or spray.

I brushed since i do not not have access to a gun to spray this material. Like any other contact cement, get it right the first time. Good deal, fast ship and good price. Thanks.

Research on the net points to this product being one of the best for automotive headliners due to it’s resistance to high temperatures. At first I was reluctant to spend the extra $$ over spray can adhesives, but it’s actually a good value.

At $45 a gallon shipped, it costs about $5 more than 2 cans of spray adhesive. and you’ll have lots left over for other projects! I used 2 qts, applied with a spray gun, for the headliner in my Jeep Cherokee.

which is 48″ x 76″, total of 50 sq ft on the 2 surfaces. One gallon is supposed to be good for 200 sq ft, so I did use more than necessary, but I attribute that to the spray gun not atomizing the product too well.

it kind of blobbed on instead of a fine lace. But I only used half of it, or $$22. 50 worth. you’re not likely to match that with spray cans! It did stink for about a week. Might be a good idea to let the headliner sit in the sun to dry before installing.

Overall it’s a high performance product at a price better than spray cans, especially if you are doing more than one job.

Works great in dedicated spray gun as I use a “Detail Sprayer” and works in the highest heat. Black vehicle can hit 140+ degrees F and spray can stuff will let go. Who wants a come back and a failure during one summer.

Don’t risk it. I am about ready to order more because I can’t run out. Ever! Tech tip: Place acetone on cotton rag on tip, then cover with plastic bag corner and rubber band. Don’t forget the cups air inlet as well.

This stuff literally ruined the paint on my car. It is the biggest hassle to work with because it is too thick and very stringy. A small amount seeped out under the badge from the pressure of pushing on it, didn’t notice until an hour later, and it took the paint on my trunk right off with it.

The bad reviews are people that are trying to fix a sagging headliner. This is used when re upholstered. Will not work if you just spray up there and push back up. Must prep area/ headliner. This stuff works amazing if used correctly.

I got this to tack an old auto headliner up in a few spots. Once the loose degraded material is mostly aired out, I sprayed up above the liner in a few loosely hanging areas. Let it get tacky and gentle pushed the liner back up where it stuck.

The spray is fairly wide, maybe 5” wide at a distance of 5 or 6”, so watch for overspray. Worked really well on the hood insulation that had cracked and separated in many areas. Get as much loose debris off as you possible before hand.

If there’s too much dirt and degraded material, all you’re doing is gluing the dirt, reducing the quality of the job. I was skeptical at first because it was a lot less expensive than “Gee Eem” general trim adhesive, but it worked every bit as well.

Take your time, and practice on something first, it can be very tricky. Hence the ease of installation rating.

This products seems to work well for smaller headliner repairs, but unfortunately the headliner in my car was sagging in most places and needed to be professionally replaced. It was not the fault of the product, the headliner and underlying foam was 6 years old and crusty and needed a full replacement.

I’d still recommend the product for smaller headliner jobs.

Works great. Installed new door leather inserts on my 2007 Ford Mustang and the job went great. Tacks up nicely in 5 minutes, and allows for some repositioning as necessary. Looks to be a strong bond.

I bought this because of the advertised resistance to heat. Time will tell if that’s true in our hot climate, but so far the car looks great.

this is my first time replacing a headliner. shopped around a lot and this was the best deal on adhesive i found. worked great. this stuff is not without a learning curve, but i had no problems. 3 cans is perfect for a nissan exterra.

yes i wish i had started with a smaller car. however i got a great result.
