20 Best Goat Hay Feeder (2022 Updated)

Well made for occasional use, or daily user with a small number of animals. Holds 1-2 slices of hay so not very good with more than 1-2 animals. We used with 3-4 sheep in a pen at a recent fair and had to refill several times per day.

I wish they bottom would be wider or less angled. I think it would hold the hay in the feeder better.

Nice basket feeder. It is much bigger than I expected. The hay fits in there with plenty of room. It mounts at a perfect angle too. It appeared from the photo that there were mounting holes only in the top but there is also a pair of mounting holes at the bottom to keep it balanced.

Sturdy, easy to hang (doesn’t come with hanging hardware), good size for 1-2 small goats if feeding only once a day. Good for 2-3 small goats if feeding twice per day. It fits up to two flakes of hay.

Adult goats can’t get heads through the wires. The small size makes it easy to fit in just about anywhere. Doesn’t rust. I am going to buy a second one – I bought only one at first to make sure I liked it before buying another.

I’d love it if a feeder exactly like this was made by Rugged Ranch but was twice as wide. Also, a catch tray option on the botton would perfect the system. I’d.

I bought this a few years ago, and was somewhat disappointed. It works as long as you have only a few animals eating out of it, and they are not fighting over it or banging on the feeder. I really liked this feeder the first year.

I had two of the gentlest lambs I’ve ever seen, and it worked great. However, once I tried to use it again the next year, for four normal lambs, one of the hooks (Not sure what to call them?) broke really quickly.

I put it away, and didn’t get it back out till this year. Because I increased my flock faster than my supplies, I ran out of other feed pans, and had to use it again. I replaced the missing hook with wire, and tried it.

I was feeding four slightly smaller lambs this time. The remaining two hooks promptly broke. I still used it by wiring it on to the fence, but it was very disappointing. I expected it to last a bit longer.

I have barely used it. In summary, this feeder will work great for you if you only plan to use it for a very few, gentle animals. If you plan to feed very many, or if they are not very gentle with their feed pans, I would recommend you buy something sturdier.

Love theses little troughs, I have 4 of them now, because my herd us growing. Their noses fit perfectly into the spaces provided for them. They all have their own dinner plate to eat of.

We actually use this trough for our chickens. We needed a bigger feeder that was more open and this fit the bill. It’s very durable and the fact that the metal grates open up makes refilling the feed easy.

Highly recommend this product.

Love these feeders in my horse stalls. They were easy to install and I can include their grain in the bottom portion of the feeder along with the hay in the upper part.

Great feeder – note that you will need a drill to punch the holes through to install the brackets. They are started but do not go all the way through. Once you have that done, assembly is easy.

Nice sturdy feeders. I wish they came with adjustable brackets. We needed ours to sit a little lower for mini donkeys. Needed a wider top of bracket to hang them where we wanted. Make sure you get your packet of brackets when you pick up feeder.

Two of ours were missing, they are loosely attached to the feeders.

The bars are a great size for goats and sheep. They cannot easily get their heads stuck in the bars which has always been a concern for me. The size is great, since it can hold 2 flakes of hay in the bars and grain in the bottom.

The only problem I had was mounting it on the wall. It is made to be hooked over a gate but I do not have any gates in my barn so it was a big chore getting it up on the wall. I had to bolt it on to 2 pieces of wood then bolt the wood into the barn wall.

Over all though it has withstood wear and is working great. I am definitely going to get more.

They work great and easy to install

Large enough for eating without stress and very hardy. No cracking when nailed into boards on mounts.

I have used these feeders for horses for many years. They stand up well and are easy to clean. They do not withstand a well placed kick but I really don’t expect them to. We will continue to use these feeders.

Really love these feeders! They make chore time easy and reduce the amount of waste. Also allows horses to “graze” throughout the day. Howeve, they are manufactured poorly. The latched are welded backwards so that they can’t be used to lock the feeders in the closed position.

Also, a couple of the tubes were smashed. They can be used without latching them, but sometimes the horses get them in a bind and it’s hard to open them, when they wouldn’t happen of you could lock them into position.

If everything was manufactured correctly, these would be 5 star feeders.

If you are using a regular hay net, these will change your life! If you are allowed to mount them in your stalls I highly recommend you purchase these. They were tricky to open and close at first but then you get the hang of it and it is easy peasy, unless you load to much hay.

lol. I can fit three large flakes of hay in the net which will last my horse most of the day. The net that comes with it is thick and has held up for over 8 months now. I love it so much I just recently purchased 3 more to add to my barn.

These are very sturdy racks with a simple, quick and secure closure system. I have a couple aggressive eaters among my seven that chewed through the original nets. I replaced all of my original nets with the web net made by same company.

These have worked very well and I’m very pleased with them. The horses are happier eating from them and the straps hold up much better than the cord. I think it is also better for them from a tooth wear perspective.

The top cord that comes with the web nets was not robust enough, and in a couple cases not long enough to go all the way around the loop, so I replaced with a better material of the same size that I bought at TSC.

It was an inexpensive improvement and I’ve not had one break away.

Unless you spend the money for metal feeders, these are by far the best & most durable

Sturdily built and seem like they’ll be durable. Painted not powder coated and the paint seems to scratch off pretty easily. I did drill some holes in the bottom to allow water to drain and some holes in the back to mount to T-Posts.

I bought 2 of these to use to put alfalfa out for Axis deer that free range on our property. Just put them, hopefully they’ll last a good long time. Overall good quality for the price.

It’s made very well and worth every penny. The goats like to step on the tray and use it as leverage to get to the hay. Unfortunately, if you don’t hang it high enough, the males will pee all over their salt and pellets.

Crunched hay accumulates in the tray and needs regular cleaning. I’d prefer no tray if I ever buy one again.

I bought one about 6 months ago and liked it so much I just bought another. It’s great that you can put hay and feed and mineral block on / in one feeder. It’s very durable, withstanding punishment from my pet goat.

It will last for sure compared to the hard plastic feeders. Rural King has the best product. The shipping I thought was very reasonable. I would highly recommend this product.

These feeders are great for miniature horses for slow feeding and a place to put their gain as well. They are smaller in size and don’t take up a whole lot of space. I like the fact that it catches a lot of the alfalfa chaff so no too much hay is wasted.

There are a couple of drawbacks though. they have a few sharp edges around the corners and the horses like to rub on them, and they don’t have hooks or a place to hook them from the bottom and when the mini pulls the hay they clang on the bars of the stall.

so it gets a bit noisy at feeding time. keep an eye on the bolts too. be sure they are on tight and checked once in a while or they come loose and can be swallowed. otherwise, they are great, just wish they weren’t so expensive or I would have a barn full.

Love the goat/sheep feeder. Both our two dwarf Nigerian goats and a larger goat now eat out of the feeder at the same time without anyone pushing on the other. Solved our problem.

The metal would definitely hold up its very sturdy. Unfortunately, the screws they gave us are WAY too big for the holes that are drilled into it. I will be returning this and going to our local feed store to purchase something similar.

Went together fast and very easy. Good quality. Perfect height for my sheep, including some weaned lambs. Yes shipping is expensive. It ships via semi truck, so I suggest you get it “Shipped to Store”.

While I have a ranch with a turn around, I opted to meet the truck at a gas station a few miles away. Box it comes in is not that heavy, 70 lbs apx. No discount or free to get it shipped to store, and IMO you should at least get a discount.

The problem is that even with a hay bale in it, the sheep can knock it over. I don’t know if they are rubbing against it or? I had to use stakes hammered in the ground at each leg and wired the legs to the stakes.

I thought I could use the pan as a grain feeder, but it will not work. Feed ends getting pushed to the center. This is ok for ewes, but not rams with large horns. Very happy overall.

Fits a full bail of hay to make chore time easier. Tray is great for holding grain. Very easy to assemble. Multiple goats can all feed at once from all sides compared to 2 on a wall mounted system.

I’ve been running the Yogoata co-op for 10 years now, and I started out with what was on hand. When someone gave me a feeder similar to the above one, I saw that more goats were able to eat from it without one bully goat dominating the feeder.

The three I bought from here are actually better than the gift feeder I was given. They are sturdy and working great with my 24 goats- it was a very good purchase for Yogoata! Just yesterday the burros snuck into the barn and ate from them as well before I threw them out.

I like how both how they look and how they function.

I bought these to use in the stalls at my boarding facility. I wanted to keep hay in nets to mimic grazing and to save the amount of hay waste. I was getting extremely tired of filling nets and was looking for a better option.

These are incredibly easy to fill, my helpers while I was away told me they were awesome. I would definitely recommend these to anyone who wants to feed in nets but is looking for an easier option. Would definitely buy again.

I would recommend adding your own clips so you don’t have to unhook them to fill them daily.

Bought this for a momma cow we’re trying to keep healthy to feed her baby during this drought. She’s easily spoiled and hollers all day for more food. Currently feeding Sudan and this helps slow her down.

She hates it but it’s helping. Seems durable enough for this hangry cow! I’m only giving 4 stars because the straps and rings are in strange positions.

This is a great slow feeder. It is very well made. It was just way bigger than I imagined it would be, almost sent it back, then said what the heck I’ll try just one of them, (I ordered 2) if I don’t like it I can send the other one back.

They hold almost 3 flakes of hay which is so great if I’m going to be gone all day. The horses took to it right away and just pick away all night long. They are no longer hysterical when I go out in the morning to feed!!! I highly recommend this feeder.

My horse was finishing her hay too quickly and then standing there hungry until the next meal time. Eating slowly is more healthy for horses. This has slowed her down, so the hay time lasts longer throughout the day.

It’s also BIG – it holds a lot of hay! I ordered 2 but only need 1. I’m really happy with it. It seems durable.

I bought these to make it eiser for my to feed my horses. I am 4 months post surgery on my back so these feed pails are great. I wire them to the fence and drilled some holes in the bottom so when it rains the water will drain out.

The horses have each their own.

Good sturdy feeder. Fence rails need to be fairly close together though so bucket doesn’t push through the rails while the horse pushes on it eating the feed. We have ours on metal rails so we use a couple of zip ties to hold it on.

Seems to work well. Our horses like to eat their pellets and supplements out of it.

This is a really great feeder for those situations where you have to move your horse to a different stall or pasture and you don’t have to unscrew or unglue a bucket from a fence or stall! Without any glue, nails, screws or even hooks this fence feeder makes moving and transporting a breeze! It’s very strong and durable and can be used for water or feed.

I haven’t noticed any wear to my fence feeder other than a little mud. The plastic makes cleaning very simple. The fun colors are very true to the pictures as well! It’s definitely a great feeder to have!.

Frame is sturdy, but pan is plastic. Use to be when you ordered online and had it delivered to the store, shipping was free. If your gonna charge freight, they should get that right. But the pan/tray was dented and a bolt was missing to adjust it.

Be ready with a rubber mallet to knock on the frame in order to adjust the height, because it is not an easy slide adjust. Only had it for 4 days now as I write this review, using it to feed one horse with cows in the same pasture.

So far none of them have knocked it over and horse is eating out of it with no problem. Overall satisfied, but always a bit disappointing when your product is damaged. I would have given it a 5, but for that.

Great feeder, very sturdy, works well for weaning calves. Light enough to drag around. Drilled holes for drainage, really like how the tub base is divided. Is a bit pricy, but worth it. Definitely would buy again, wish I would have found this years ago.

I didn’t adjust the height, kept it how it was shipped.

This is a great feeder, it works fantastic for goats. Especially for the price! I can feed them hay and grain them in the same feeder. The pictures don’t do it justice, it is more sturdy and bigger than it looks in the picture.

I also have cows and horses that have used the feeder and it works great for them too !.

This hay rack is perfect for my goats both the Alpine’s and the pygmy’s. The larger goats can eat from the top and the smaller ones can eat what drops into the pan (we also purchased the bottom part).

I wish it would have been explained to me that this would be delivered on a tractor-trailer, no lift gate and some one had to be home within the 3 hr. time frame provided. When I asked if could be delivered on a lift gate truck I was told that would be an extra charge and when I asked if it could be delivered to my place of employment (we have a dock there) I was told that would be an extra charge.

As it turned out, my husband was able to leave work early and be on “standby” delivery notice and when the truck came to the house, my husband, the truck drive and the neighbor were able to off-load the feeder in the street.

So far this rack is working fairly well. The bunk that it is attached to isn’t quite heavy enough to keep the feeder in one spot. The goats tend to move it around

This is exactly what I needed in the pasture. The girls are doing so much better now that they have more room while eating. Less stress and happier goats. Very easy to assemble with the 5 foot bunk feeder.

Also cut down on the wasted hay on the ground. We are very happy with the purchase.

Great product for all size farm animals. Our horse, miniature goats and miniature donkey all have easy access to hay. Much less waste from hay being spread around ground. Wish I had bought sooner!

These hay racks are great for horses! I have 4 of them that I bought from tractor supply over the years. I use this one to help divide the stalls in our old barn – now a run in shed. They can eat from both sides and it keeps the hay out of the bad weather if they don’t eat it all in one day.

Also more importantly it keeps the horses out of the heat and flies namely the horse flies right now!.

Extremely sturdy construction. Everything is galvanized. End wires keep hay inside the rack. No tools required for assembly. Stainless steel pins for connecting points. A roof would be a nice feature to keep the hay dry here in the deep south.

This bunk feeder came through missing a part in one end. It does not work very well with my goats, they get in it and lay down. They have trouble getting out of the feeder. I did not find it worked very well.

I did call the shipping company about the damaged feeder. Very disappointed.

I have a custom-made goat barn and I bought this because the lower height is good for the goats to reach through my custom panels to eat from the center aisle. However, when I set it in place there was about a 6″ gap between the goats and the pan because the legs are wider than the pan.

I had to tilt it toward them and set the bottom on cinder blocks, but lost about a foot of aisle in doing so. I otherwise like it, so will eventually have a welder alter the legs.

This is exactly what you need for Goats. The bunk feeders carried in the stores are a taller height for cattle so it is harder for the goats to reach to the bottom of the bunk.

This is a solid product that is well made and designed. I put it off for a long time due to the cost, but I was tired of the goats throwing hay everywhere. With this feeder, it catches most of what drops in the feed tray.

The tray is also nice so snacks can go in one place instead of always setting out snack buckets. We have ours outside, and use a small tarp flopped over the top with wood across the top so it is protected from fain, and they just stick their heads under it to get to the hay without an issue.

For the cost on sale, it was absolutely worth it.

This has been very a real game changer! Very efficient and my goats seem to really like it. My hay use and waste has been cut in half! Goats can be very messy and wasteful. Once the hay hits the ground they usually won’t eat it.

The try at the bottom traps all the leafy goodness of the alfalfa, and they will now munch on the rest throughout the day. Very little waste. I fashioned a lid for the top so the big goats can’t get to it and it helped keep it more civil between them.

We have some young Nubian/Nigerian Dwarf X and this feeder is really the perfect size. I have the cinder blocks there but they do not need them. They like the boost they provide and it’s an attempt to wear their front hooves down a tad but they are totally good eating from this feeder without them.

Happy with this purchase. I am giving it 4 of 5 stars because it arrived with one leg slightly bent so I need to keep a rock under it to keep it balanced. A bit of a bummer, but oh well. I am a fan of the entire Tarter line truth be told.

This Hay Basket is the best for feeding horses hay! Four or more horses can feed at the same time. It can hold 3 plus square bales – I pull the bales apart a bit instead of putting then in whole. The hay stays off the ground and very little is wasted.

The basket easily lifts out for washing with a hose if needed. The feeder is sturdy and I’ve never had a horse tip it. Plus there is no way for a leg or hoof to get caught in it somewhere. I love this hay basket and so do my horses!.

We’ve had this almost a year and while it keeps hay off the ground and is relatively “horse safe” there are still a couple issues. CONS: Have found it tipped several times Horses will definitely flip hay out if there is no net Needed drain holes drilled in the lowest point bc the hay openings are molded with edges rolled in, so holds water Price for having to modify for a-hole horses PROS: Feeds 4 naughty horses well when they don’t flip it or the hay Keeps what hay they don’t flip out clean and pretty dry Haven’t had anyone main themselves in it.

So happy I purchased this! Hay lasts longer because they aren’t trampling it, my donkey eats through the slats so it reduces how much he can eat but still allows the horses to get the hay they need. It’s easy to move, and no sharp edges or places to get hurt (horses are so good at that).

We may buy another one next year just to make them roam around more in the winter. Love this feeder!.

We bought these to attach to our pipe status. With some U clamps they were easy to install. Unfortunately, they hardly hold one flake of alfalfa. Our girls eat 1 flake of Bermuda and 1 flake of alfalfa twice a day.

There is no way to fit two flakes into this feeder at once. Unfortunately, our girls just pull the hay from the top and drop it on the ground so this purchase was a waste of money for us. The quality is good though.

Bought this for our mini horses after they destroyed a few homemade versions. VERY sturdy and heavier than expected. Like that it catches the fallen pieces. We have it on the ground due to their short height but it would be great hung up for larger horses as well.

It holds couple flakes easily and I have shoved 4 into it when needed.

Flimsy, cheap. Got 11 of these things about 18 months ago. Just got done putting them up. Next morning 5 out of 11 were crushed in the barn. Horses will rub on them. An 1100lb horse and a 10lb poly wall feeder do not mix.

Waste of a $$. Do not buy unless it is for a mini or llama.
