20 Best Goat Hoof Trimmers (2022 Updated)

I have been trimming my own horses’ hooves for about 8 years now. After trying all kinds of rasps (and some backaches!), I came across the Electric Hoof Knife and am extremely happy with it. I purchased mine before Valley Vet started carrying it and have been using it for about 3 years.

It takes a little practice to get the hang of it. Have a rasp nearby at first for finishing. I recommend starting with the red attachment and moving the outer protective piece from the side to the bottom.

I have never used the chain saw attachment as I trim my horses every 3 weeks, so there just isn’t much to trim. Try to get used to trimming with both hands as much as possible; your trim will be much more even as a result.

The red attachment doesn’t cut off a tremendous amount, so it’s pretty hard to make a mistake. Get yourself a really good pair of safety glasses as the hoof fragments will otherwise fling into your eyes.

Once you get the hang of using your Electric Hoof Knife, you may wish to graduate to a more abrasive attachment. I tried the yellow but ultimately ended up with the blue attachment. I like it best because it is flat.

Each of the attachments lasts me about 2 months (3 horses with trims about every 3 weeks). Not only is this much cheaper than a farrier, but I can address a split or crack as soon as I see it. As an endurance rider, it also gives me a clear understanding of the status of my horses’ hooves at all times.

So far as learning, I highly recommend that you engage your farrier. Let him/her know that you want to start doing your own trims and that you will be extending the farrier visits because you will be doing interim trims.

Most will be happy that your horse will be getting even better care. That will last for at least a year, maybe longer, until you gain experience. Even after 8 years, I still have a professional farrier check my work 2x year.

By the way, after seeing my Electric Hoof Knife, he bought one for his practice! 2 of my 3 horses had no issue whatsoever with the noise. The other one took about 5 minutes to become accustomed to it the first time.

Great for the donkey great for the goats too. Love what the goats hooves look like. They all have stood better with hoof boss than hoof shears.

Excellent tool for trimming horse hooves. Allows me to put focus on the results I want with much less effort. Even better, it’s made in the USA. Valley Vet has always been my go to supplier for items I can not get locally.

These trimmers are reasonably priced and last longer than I expected. Wasn’t sure if they would hold up to re-sharpening, but still going after a few times. This is my second set of these and I’m sure I will buy them again when it’s time for a new set.

These trimmers worked great. I have only trimmed one buck with them so far but was very happy with how sharp they are and easy to handle.

I’ve not gotten to use them yet but have inspected it. Seems like a wonderfully made product.

This trimmer arrived today. I have been using Zenport’s Magic Shear to trim hooves of my goats for over 20 years, but wanted extra leverage I thought might be present in the 10 inch unit. But these are NOT 10 inch trimmers.

The package very clearly states that they are 7 1/2 inch trimmers. I am sure they cut well, but they are not as described, so back they go.

Not very expensive, but not very good quality either. The handles do not stay on, the spring pops out and does not retain its shape. If you only have one or two goats this may be fine for you. (if the goats hooves are not too hard) I would recommend buying much higher vallue trimmers than these.

Living in Queensland, Australia we have a hot dry climate. Our goats feet get very hard to trim. These good trimmers are excellent! Cuts through them so easily. High recommend.

I bought these for trimming my goats hooves. They worked excellent, small enough for a woman’s hand, super sharp and easy to maneuver. The tips are “sharp” I accidentally stabbed the palm of my left hand while holding the leg to cut the hooves.

Spring allows it to cut easily without too much hand strength (which I don’t have).

I use these for all around trimming of shrubs and flowers. They are lightweight, inexpensive, sharp and strong. I had been using a pair for about eight years. I used them most days during the growing season.

I lost them and needed a replacement pair. It may be just me but I love these clippers.

No these are from china, the plastic IS PLASTIC. It is not the same molded quality plastic as originally made. I hope there is some place i can find the origional quality zenport hoof trimmers. I will continue to search.

I signed up to take a two-day trim class in GA and bought these. They were terrible. If you have NO OTHER options, these will work but they will make you think trimming hooves is extremely difficult.

I would not recommend.

I was ready to upgrade from my cheap nippers I’ve used for 9 years. Couldn’t decide to spend huge prices for some of the most recommended nippers so felt these were a good compromise for the price difference.

I love them! So smooth and much easier for me to use, I’m a 59 year old woman. Very pleased and you can’t beat the price.

The first xtra long handle gives me better closing ability. The thin “mouth” allows me to get into smaller areas for the minis hooves. These were wonderful!!

I’ve had many of the cheaper trimmers you get from your local feed store and while they worked great for the first few trims, usually by the time I’ve reached the end of my herd’s hooves they are starting to do the “bend over” rather than clipping.

I have always hated that and have found them somewhat difficult to keep sharp. THESE trimmers, on the other hand, made it through my herd from start to finish without any trouble. They cut through the hooves like butter (I know others have said this already, but it’s absolutely TRUE, you will not believe the difference until you’ve tried it!).

I’m sold. I will definitely never switch back to the cheaper ones again.

Tried cutting with a new pair of “green” handled trimmers and got a blister after 5 sheep. These came and really DO cut like butter. It is SO worth the price to ensure you have the absolute best trimmers on hand to do a rigorous task.

We trimmed 30+ sheep in one day without hand stress and calm sheep.

Product arrived as described, and in allotted time. They are extremely sharp, but only time will tell on how many uses I can get before the blades dull.

This tool is nothing short of amazing. It’s so easy to use. Fits well in the hand and is very easily manipulated. It’s sharp so be careful but it really cuts down the amount of time it takes to cut hooves normally.

Arrived within a reasonable time and is quite sharp. Works quickly and makes cutting so much easier. Much better than others that I have tried. cuts to trim our Alpacas toenails. Better than others we have tried.

These are razor sharp. No matter how easy it is to use, which it is. You should be very careful when using. I really like this product and am very impressed with its capabilities.

These are a good Nipper for the price. You get your money’s worth. They’re not GE Nippers but they are also not $200

I use these in the garden. They are very sharp, easy to use and just the right weight. Easy to spot in the grass or garden.

I used the trimmer on my goats hoofs and it got the job done they are lightweight and easy to handle.

I was given a pygmy goat for my birthday and the shears trimmed her hooves like butter. Good price too.

These are exceptional tools for the weak handed especially. I have to wrestle my 200 pound pig and I simply can’t work regular, non-spring loaded nippers and corner her and trim. It just is physically impossible.

These will stay open and help so much in getting the difficult snip. It’s not a perfect 5 star review because they aren’t quite as sharp as any other nippers I’ve ever tried, so I still struggle a bit.

If I could combine the sharpness of other nippers and the spring loaded action of this set it would be perfect. As it stands now, I will probably need to take them and have them sharpened.

The Diamond farrier nippers are great. My husband uses them to trim our donkeys. He was very pleased and said they worked great.

I just started on the adventure of learning to trim my own horses hooves. I didn’t want to spend $200, but didn’t want the cheapest pair either. I used this nipper on 4 horses and they are doing the job, but I can see they are already loosing their sharpness.

I will have to resharpen this pair soon. Otherwise these nippers seem to be made well with quality materials, are a great length to make nipping hard hooves easier and will be able to withstand re sharpening.

I hope to at least get a couple of years use out of these nippers. time will tell.

I bought these against my better judgment (after reading other online reviews) because my goat was in a bind and needed her nails trimmed that day. My local feed store was sold out and this was my only option.

Unfortunately, they were too dull to cut by the time I was on the fourth hoof. It worked for a one time job but will need to be sharpened for next time. It’s disappointing for the cost.

Very good. I used these to trim over 160 goat hooves so far. Some very overgrown and still easily managed through. They are quite sharp, I recommend you wear a cut resistant glow on left hand. Also wear a grip glove on the right hand to prevent blisters.

I used it to trim my goats hooves. Sometimes the blades “slip” and the blades are closed but the hoof piece is still attached. It has certainly gotten the job done though, Better than what I had before.

Ok nippers for the price. Not as sharp as I’d like, and the blade angle is too wide to cut really easily for a professional. However they are good enough for a backup pair or if you do your own trimming.

As a professional farrier I recommend against doing this because there is a lot that can go wrong if you aren’t trained properly. Trimming might seem simple, but to do it right you need to know the anatomy physiology and biomechanics of the lower leg.

I was hoping for a similar product I have purchased before but this is a different brand of “Orange” foot clippers. the packaging says they are actually for trimming hedges not livestock feet. Anyway they work but not as well as some I have used before.

I use this product for horses that wont pick up their feet. If you do it right it does a great job. Ive used it on cattle and works great. Very sharp, easy to sharpen, good leverage. They last forever and are easy to repair if they get broke.

This trimmer came sharp and ready to use. We used it to trim and old cow’s overgrown hooves. The leverage from the long handles and the angle it allows made it an easy fix. Didn’t stress out the cow.

A great product, delivery was fast, I used them as soon as I received them.I have a 1300 lb horse that isn’t easy to trim. Now I can get the job done!
