20 Best Indoor Hdtv Antenna Cnet (2022 Updated)

I have the disadvantage of living at the bottom of a hill surrounded by mature trees. My house is also situated between two of the towers I watch the most TV programs from. With my previous antenna, one about 2 inches smaller than the FLATenna with a very thin attached cable, I was constantly having to get up and angle it toward the tower I was watching programming from.

If I didn’t, I would get a lot of freezing and/or pixelation and audio drops, especially in windy conditions or when a truck would pass by. After installing the new FLATenna, I can now pick up all available channels in the St.

Louis area with nearly perfect reception. I found that instead of hanging it high on a wall, I got the best reception by laying it flat on top of our entertainment center which stands just over 6 feet tall, about 10 feet from the nearest window.

When a major cold front came through the other night with very strong winds, there was just a second or two of pixelation. The only real issue came when an area news helicopter kept doing circles around the interstate highway by my house that sits between me and the NBC tower.

That probably would have bothered any antenna made no matter the price. Right now, I’m very pleased with the performance of your antenna. My wife really likes the fact that it’s now out of sight since It can be laid flat.

A better test will come when Spring comes and the trees start leafing out again.

I had another antenna on my TV, but I could only receive around 20 channels, and about half of those not very well. I ordered this one based on Cnet giving it their top rating. And I agree. For the price, which includes shipping, it is a steal.

My TV is on an interior wall in the middle of my house, so I hooked up a longer coax cable and ran it to the nearest window to see how many channels I could get. I counted around 50. But then I followed the instructions and moved the antenna around and amazingly the best location for it was right next to my TV on an interior wall (and next to a fireplace).

In that location I got 65 channels (I didn’t know Portland, OR had that many channels!). I like the fact that you can switch out the cable to try different locations. In my case, I needed a slightly longer cable than the one that came with the antenna.

I already had one, but even if I had to buy it this is still a great deal. You should either buy or borrow a longer coax at least to find your best location, it can make a big difference. My only issue was that the first antenna they sent me cracked in half during shipping.

But their customer service is great. They sent me a new antenna (no questions asked, and I didn’t even have to send back the cracked one). The new one is fine. So all in all, a great experience, Why would anyone pay for cable???.

I had purchased the MOHU SKY outdoor antenna (with amplifier) for my house in the country but tried it at the house in the city before installing it where it belonged. Stunning, crystal clear picture on about 30 local stations.

See my review of the SKY for details. So I bought a LEAF for the city place (also with amplifier) and hooked it up, first to 2 TV’s and then to just one while my wife got over her “COLD TURKEY” about giving up the cable.

While amazing compared to the cable, it sometimes pixelated and would lose signal on rare occasion. I attributed it to placement and did not worry about it. Well she finally called ATT and had them turn off the cable, I proceeded to hook up the antenna and amplifier to feed both TV’s.

Terrible picture on both sets where it existed, and many stations showed NO SIGNAL or POOR SIGNAL STRENGTH. I figured I would just have to buy a SKY for the city house, though we are no more than 20-25 miles MAX from the broadcast towers and the LEAF should suffice.

But first I conducted a quick test to see if there was some other weakness in the system. When I first hooked the two TV’s up I had the amplifier installed up in the attic next to the antenna. I decided to get one TV working right while I figured the problem out and went from the LEAF to a 2 way splitter and direct to both TV’s, figuring I would put the amp on one TV and maybe buy another amplifier to see if that worked.

The wife called out, “great picture now, what did you do?” I ran into the other room and the same story, superb picture and the full 30 stations, NO pixelation or weak signal messages on either TV’s.

With OUT the amplifier or the fancy white cable you get when you get a MOHU. So whether it is the amplifier or the white cable or both that are causing the problem, my pictures on my two televisions are gorgeous now, hanging off of ONE LEAF antenna with no need for any amplifier.

I wish I had tried just the LEAF originally before buying the amplifier, but well, a lesson learned. (Posted on 5/18/2014).

I called Mohu customer service (1-855-446-6648) and got right through to a very nice, fun and knowledgeable representative before purchasing this antenna. I was concerned about the phrase in the Amazon description that says “TVs labeled HD ready or HDTV monitors are not considered digital ready.

” My kitchen TV — the new Leaf’s companion — is labeled “HDTV monitor. ” Since it’s only a few months old, the rep said it should be fine. If you have the same concern, though, I’m not suggesting to ignore the Product Description but to call Mohu.

The rep even looked up my Tucson address on TVfool. com and said it’s a good thing I called since I was considering purchasing the Leaf Plus Amplified. He said I didn’t need to spend the extra bucks, and the amplified is for receiving signals from transmitters further from my home.

“People think more is better, but that isn’t necessarily so when it comes to antennas. ” According to him and a few other expert and user reviews I had read, amplified can actually interfere with closer tower reception.

I had been to TVfool. com as well as antennaweb. org before calling, but the Mohu rep went above and beyond to help me make more sense of the specs. I was delighted by the number of channels received (33).

For comparison, that’s about twice as many as my old rabbit ears HDTV antenna in the kitchen picked up. Before, I was missing the NBC affiliate, or could fiddle around and receive it at the expense of losing the CBS affiliate.

This antenna receives all the major networks plus PBS, their sub-channels and a few other stations I’d not realized existed, all without adjusting the antenna position or angle. The antenna worked right out of the box by placing it on an unobtrusive place on the wall without having to experiment with different locations.

And it looks a whole lot better than the old rabbit ears. Your mileage may vary greatly. The area towers here are located in three different directions on mountains surrounding the city, and my house is in the valley in the greater metro area with the towers four to 22 miles away by air.

You might need to experiment with placement, but I didn’t at all. I just put it on the wall where it was unobtrusive and am quite sure I’m getting all over-the-air signals, including HD, available in the area.

I’m wowed by this antenna. It even picks up more channels than our supposedly digital-ready rooftop antenna connected to the main TV. I don’t know if that’s due to the respective locations of the antennas and TVs, or if it’s because of the great technology and design of the Paper Thin Leaf.

This is a combined review of the Leaf and Leaf Plus Antenna. Last month, I ordered a Leaf from gomohu. com and earlier this month I ordered a Leaf Plus from amazon. com. I changed the locations of both antennas a few times and that did make a difference in the number of channels which I received.

I have the Leaf connected to a Digital to Analog Converter Box which is connected to a Samsung 40 inch TV and the Leaf Plus is connected to four DVD Recorders. I tested the two antennas today, at the same time, by connecting both of them to separate Samsung TV’s, the 40 and a 32 inch, using identical Digital to Analog Converter Boxes.

I started a new setup on both converters at the same time. The leaf found 64 channels and the leaf plus found 66 channels. Many of the channels I would probably never watch. Some are Spanish channels and some are radio channels.

I checked the signal strength on several channel numbers on both converters at the same time. The signal strength on all the channel numbers was from 5 to 10 points higher on the Leaf Plus than it was on the leaf.

As an example, the three local NBC channels in Las Vegas have some of the weaker signals. The signal strength fluctuates a bit and the highest on the leaf was 71 and on the Leaf Plus it was 81. The signals on the stronger channels were basically five points higher on the Leaf Plus than on the Leaf.

The reason I decided to buy the Leaf Plus was because I had the Leaf connected to four DVD Recorders and I lost the NBC Channels to all four recorders. I saw the Leaf Plus advertised and decided to order it because the signal is amplified.

Basically I am satisfied with both antennas and am considering cancelling my cable TV and using local channels and Hulu Plus and Netflix to replace the cable. The cable monthly price has increased by 50 percent in the past ten years and is probably ready to increase again in the near future.

An increase is usually by around 6 percent. I can save over $40 a month by cancelling the cable and subscribing to both Hulu Plus and Netflix. I could use the $40 for other things. (Posted on 5/18/2014).

I am in a high-rise apartment in lower Manhattan and wanted to get some local over-the-air channels. Install was very simple. I like that it has a detachable coax cable and is so small. However, I spent over an hour moving the unit to various locations (in the window, behind the tv, on both sides of the tv, on the floor, in the middle of the room, upside down.

whatever you can think of) and picked up no more than 18 channels (rescanning each time I moved it). Of all the channels it would pick up only one was an actual “big” network channel and even that one would go in and out, all pixelated.

I know this is one of the less expensive antennas but there are reviews from good sources all over the internet about how this is a highly-rated one. The name of it “metro” even points to the fact that it is meant for cities.

Didn’t work for me at all in NYC so I returned it.

Works pretty well for reception. I’m close to the TV towers and even with this antenna it is a challenge to get my WCCO channel to come in properly. The problem with my previous antenna was the signal was too strong and the quality of the signal was terrible.

This antenna so far works pretty well for that channel, but the quality of the signal for other broadcast channels is then not as good as it was with the other antenna. It seems like a decent compromise solution now.

This Optostars 80 Mile Range Leaf OTA TV Antenna works GREAT!!! I had a white, similar OTA antenna but THIS pulls in more stations!!! With the older, white antenna, I would lose quite a few of the Over The Air channels.

As a matter of fact, when I changed-out the old antenna system for this one, with the new OTA antenna, I saw that I was receiving the channels that were lost on the old antenna! I LOVE THIS LEAF METRO ANTENNA!!!.

I have a high power antenna in my attic that is wired to the in-house cable but not all of the rooms have jacks. I bought two of these several years ago to use in those rooms. I have added a third tv in need of a stand alone antenna so have shopped around.

I have purchased several with great disappointment. I know what the alignment needs to be to capture the broadcasts in my area. With all the other brands I have tried, I cannot get all available channels unless I move the antenna around.

I never have to do this with this GE brand. It is by far the most affordable and have proven them to work. Even better than some amplified, much more expensive ones I’ve purchased and returned. This antenna has set the bench mark! FYI:You can look online to fine where your transmitters are located and will usually give you an approximate distance.

This will help in the placement of the antenna. The transmitters are approx 30-50 miles from my location and this little gem captures all of them no problem.

Just bought this today and can’t believe how well it works. Have it in my living room on the wall facing a window and didn’t really expect much but the reception is great. Tried it in the kitchen and placed it on window and it worked even better.

Since dish tv is in a dispute with nexstar I was not getting cbs and nbc local stations. Both are owned by nexstar. This antenna fills the gap!! Going back and getting another one for kitchen!.

Bought this one to replace another name brand one that I’ve had 6 yrs. I was sceptic because of the price and several of the revews, but took a chance. I live about 45 miles from the closest TV station/towers and a rural area, so was not expecting much, I get 12 chanels in HD and it may not seem like a lot but it’s decent stations, the top 3 networks and 3 of my favorite that play older shows besides I get tired of netflix’n it all the time.

I have always had a problem getting one of my local stations but this antenna solved that problem. I am using it with a low noise amplifier (LNA). All the stations come in better that the other antennas I have tried.

More expensive but if you want good reception this is what you want. If you don’t already have a LNA there is an option to purchase the a amp.

I live in a rural area, when I received the product, I attached the cable, placed the antennae in my window, did a channel search, and picked up 20 channels. There is only 1 major network channel that I do not get.

Easy fix for any and all channels that I do want to see, an HDMI cable (cost $2) that goes from my laptop to TV. I just go to the network webpage, and watch the shows that I want. Some shows you have to wait until the next day to see, that is not a big deal.

The picture quality is HD. I was so impressed that I ordered a 2nd antennae for another TV. In addition, I cancelled my cable service, which is saving me $90 a month. This product works as described, easy to use and operate, and is a great value.

I’ve been thinking of getting an indoor antenna for a few years now. I have an antenna on my roof. I receive 68+ channels. For a few months some of my channels have been going in and out. Lost channel 2 completely.

A friend at work recommended this product as she bought one for her mother & sister in law. I just love it! I unplugged my roof antenna and plugged in my new indoor Winegard antenna and bang, there was channel 2! I attached it to my window on an outside wall.

I would recommend this product to anyone and already have to several people.

This review is from a peculiar perspective of altitude, obstruction, location, and interference. Everyone SHOULD have a digital antenna, but don’t expect perfect, consistent reception. The broadcasts are FREE and it’s good backup, like having flashlights or a battery / crank radio and inverters.

Anyway… I have 4 digital antennas, all different brands, styles, locations, TVs… they all work well for 50% and a 90-degree swath of broadcast reception. It’s just the unfortunate reality and physics of Cleveland’s directional output from various stations… I can’t get CBS and FOX simultaneously, for example, on the same antenna without having to move it, because towers separately aim their signals east, south or west (north is water), depending on their target market.

The CLE area has the highest average elevation in the state, and the broadcast towers are on a huge hill. I can watch Browns football using antenna, while having other games on with cable, wi-fi, mobile phone broadband.

Two antennas are stationary and two are mobile, for RV tailgating purposes. This one is probably my best. I can get broadcast from Toledo, 100 miles west, easier than getting some channels from 13 miles east, however.

That’s just the way it is… so you know. Antenna TV is fun, mobile, great for the RV, but does require adjustments. And like dish / satellite TV, it is very vulnerable to weather conditions. FYI, I did not provide a photo in a specific location because I’m constantly moving it… that’s the point of it, right?.

This new TV is in a semi-basement apartment and facing in the “wrong” direction. I didn’t bother to try it without the amplifier but it is hard to believe that there would have been many channels available without it.

Literally everything except Channel 5 came in strongly but there was no sign Channel 5 was being broadcast. My stepdaughter moved it off the window onto the wall above it on her own and retained all of the other channels while also bringing in three different Channel 5 stations.

I would call this a tremendous outcome! Installation is virtually nothing to mention. In order to be able to move it easily I used paint edging tape to hold it in place instead of the pressure sensitive adhesive supplied.

I’ll use the provided adhesive “eclipse” when the position is absolutely final.

After trying two other free tv antennas that I purchased at drug stores I still had poor picture quality. I did a online search and found that Antennas Direct was rated #1. Decided to give them a try and ordered the Clear Stream Eclipse for $39.

99. It was worth every penny and my picture quality is as good as when I had cable. The 12 foot cord allows me hang the antenna in the right spot for the best reception. I get 42 channels fine. The antenna tower app is great and shows me that all the station towers are within the 35 mile range and the Eclipse antenna is facing the right location.

I am 100 percent satisfied and so glad I found this product.

I have to admit that when I took it out of the box I thought I had made a mistake. This antenna is about as thick as a piece of card stock paper and is as light as a feather. Yet, I decided that I would try it out and see.

To my surprise this thing really works. I live at the base of a hill with lots of trees, houses and apartments between me and the transmitter and this antenna was still able to pull in several channels.

Next, I kept on trying it in different locations and I got all the channels in my area. I figured out that it works best in the window. I heard that it works even better outside but I would need to get a longer cord to make that happen.

I am very happy with this item and I would buy it again for sure. ***Update***I was able to get about 15 channels but I found out that there were more out there. So I bought the booster and went to work to find the right spot.

It did take some time to tweak it and get the antenna in exactly the right spot (due to my location at the base of a hill) but I ended up getting 21 channels! So now for a minimal price I get ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, PBS and several other local channels.

Like many other reviewers who bought this odd shaped antenna with the magnetic base. Yes the base is nice for mounting to metal window frames. But only if the antenna itself worked. I live in a town that is only 5 miles from a local tv stations large antennas.

But only sometimes would they all come in with a clear strong signal. And another local stations towers are 15 miles away. Sadly this antenna could only pick the channel up very rarely. Your best bet is to buy a better antenna.

Picture is as good as your TV so I do know why that matters. Easy to install you plug it in the wall then to the TV or the other way around it does matter at all. I stuck mine to the window behind my TV and it sticks well, so keep that in mind if you like changing rooms around on a regular basis.

If you do, then you might want to invest in some “goo gone” because I broke my first antenna trying to pull it off the window. It was a great buy for me. I live out by the lake and ca get good internet let alone cable and plus I do really want aher bill to have to pay.

So I got this and I have 16 channels that consists of some christian channels (witch sold me), all the super liberal OETA channels but they have a cooking show channel, DIY channel, and documentary channel, and pbs, and pbs kids, ion channel is a crime tv show channel, fox, NBC, cbs, my TV, fx, and others.

Basically it’s a pretty good deal if you like just a little bit of tv and do need 1,000 channels to choose from.

It works great. I live almost 50 miles north of Dallas (where the transmission towers are) and I put this antena on a window. I get a lot of channels in HD, particularly the three Spanish channels my mother wanted to watch but there are many more.

I didn’t use the smaller antena of 25 miles range but I’m pretty sure it also works great since it’s the same as the other one, just smaller. Another cool thing is that the antennas are white on one side and black on the other so you can choose the side you want see or the want that looks better with your wall/window.

It requires a connection to a USB port for electricity for the amplifier but it includes an AC adapter for the USB cable or you can also connect it to a USB port in your TV if it has one. The amplifier works great and it really improves the reception.

Totally recommended.

I got tired of YouTube. tv raising thier prices like cable, so I decided to try airial again. For some reason I have trouble finding an antenna that works despite being relatively close to a lot of stations.

I got the leaf because all the reviews rave about it, but I pulled in 1 channel. Fortunately I bought a Mohu blade to use on another tv and it works amazing. I got all of the channels I expected. Not sure what to do with this leaf now.

It may go back on ebay since I am ordering another blade.

I’ve tried a variety of different brands of indoor antennas, both amplified and not, and this one is the only one that will pull in all the stations in my area on the main floor of my house. Also, the little non-amplified version works well attached to my upstairs TV.

This is a superior product and I highly recommend it to anyone.

Originally I purchased ONE antenna because in one room I had no reception. It wasn’t the TV. I moved it to other rooms and also tried working TV’s in this one room. The problem was the room. So I purchased one Mohu Leaf Antenna and got all channels I expected, with no pixelation and MORE than I expected.

On a whim, I decided to try it on another TV in another room where the reception was GREAT. To my surprise I received many more channels – I guess about 8 additional ones that I had not received in the room with the best reception.

After that trial I ordered 3 more Mohu Leaf Antennas for the other TV’s in my house. All increased in the number of channels I received. I highly recommend this antenna. I live in a major city and also – before purchasing the first one – called the Mohu Leaf company.

The salesman was exceedingly helpful and suggested that because all the TV stations in my area are within 2 miles of the city, that I didn’t need a more powerful antenna since the basic Mohu Leaf has a 30 mile range.

Replaced a cable box that I was paying $10 monthly, for a TV that I use maybe once a week. Paid $25 + tax and done. Set up was very easy, as all you do is plug in the built-in coax cable to your TV. No electrical cord, as I had for an older type of Digital box.

Did the scan once and didn’t get the PBS channels like I saw on other reviews. Moved the angle of the antenna, did a rescan of the channels, and got several PBS channels to view. All I was looking to get were the local channels, but ended up receiving 38 channels.

All that I need for my Sunday morning newspaper and coffee!.

It’s sleek, I’ll give it that. But it doesn’t work great for me. I get one or two local channels sometimes. Otherwise it cuts out quite a bit and I have to search my channels again all the time to get a signal.

I’m giving it three stars because it’s nice looking and I don’t know if it’s my location or TV that’s the problem or the actual antenna.

I recently cut the cable and wanted some channels in my bedroom to fall asleep to so I grabbed this antenna. Works for about 1 hour then continues to cut in and out. Moved it to a few different places within the room.

Slowly moved each antenna to see of that helped the picture turn out better but nope. The weather will be clear and it will cut in and out constantly. I have it right by a window, the cord is attached correctly, and I’ve moved the antenna slowly and nothing seems to help.

Overall very unhappy with my purchase.

Simple rabbit ears for HDTV. They need to be able to pick up the signal being transmitted – so your results may vary depending on how close to live to transmission towers, weather, the local geography/topology, nearby buildings, and even where in your house you place them.

They work fine for me in midtown Manhattan, where I’m picking up around 50 channels with high quality. You may want to pick up a longer coaxial cable and a coupler along with this antenna as the cable it comes with is attached internally and is only four feet long.

This will allow you to place the antenna in another room or near a window, away from the TV, for better reception.

Bought this antenna so that I could get NBC which didn’t work with my other digital antenna. Some channels are on UHF and some on VHF frequencies which require different antennas. This antenna is for UHF (has the rabbit ears) seems to work pretty well so far when there isn’t a storm or outside interference.

This antenna is fantastic! I use the UltraPro Edge HD Amplified TV Antenna in my family room for daily viewing and we love it! I don’t use cable, but do want to watch local news and public tv channels.

This antenna does both and then some! I get several local channels (approximately 40 or so) and can often watch televised football games and events that cable subscribers often cannot!! The antenna has a very long cord which allows the user to move the antenna around for the best signal possible.

It is 2-sided, one side black, one side white, to easily match decor. This is a fantastic antenna to have!.

So far so good. Picks up quite a number of channels, though most of them are pretty low-budget. Never knew how many religious channels exist over the airwaves – where do they get all that money? (Rhetorical question) I also still can’t wrap my head around how digital channels are numbered (e.

g. 15-1, 15-2, 15-3. etc. ). This antenna is lightweight and fairly low-profile. My TV happens to be on a wall with a stairwell behind it, so I’m going to mount this on the wall inside the stairwell and run the cables through the inside of the wall to keep it all out of sight.

Even if this had to be in sight, though, it’s not bad and if you’re really creative, you could design a decal to put on it or cover it in fun fabric.

Mohu makes quality products. This is actually my second Mohu Arc indoor antenna, since the first one worked so well. Easy to plug in and program. I had a booster for my other one, and it turns out I didn’t even need it.

If you are a cord-cutter but still want local channels, this is for you. (Mohu’s website will help you pick out the right antenna for your area. ). Even if I had cable, I would still keep this connected – I was surprised how many “odd” channels were out there.

I must say that I was very skeptical of this product as it seemed too easy to you. The quality of the pic was better on the local channel than the HD channel with cox cable. I was shocked and so easy to install.

My parents are older and I installed this for them after they were sitting without cable for 4 days. My mom wants to cancel cable since all the local channels and more came into viewing. I would say about 30 channels in all.

The good: looks good (for an antenna). Relatively easy to set up. Works for close stations. I have two stations within 10 miles according to https://www. fcc. gov/media/engineering/dtvmaps. Picks those stations up at 90/100 on UHF and 70/100 on High-V.

Both come in without any interference or skipping. The bad: I have 5 different stations that are 36 miles away, both UHF and low-V. It picks up none of these, 0/100 on my TV. Overall, for close stations, it works fine and doesn’t look bad which is a plus.

But the 50 mile range is unlikely for normal usage unless you have a station operating at max power and perfect geographical and weather conditions. Worked better for me without he amplifier.

I have tried amplified antennae before and they did not perform well at all. This GE 33698 antennae however performed beyond my expectations. I placed the antennae on the inside of the window and powered it up and was able to pull in all the local SD and HD channels and even some from cities further away.

I tried unplugging the power and the antennae lost reception on several stations but it worked effectively without power for many stations. This may just be the solution to cutting the cable!.

I was reluctant to try such a small antenna. Rarely does a product Actually do what it says it’ll do. We live an hour from Nashville, and were using a Big Rooftop version. Winds blew it down so I thought we’d try this one.

With the included Amplifier, it actually picks up More channels. Found these at $10-20. Well worth it, and pretty good design too.
