20 Best Oil For Door Hinges (2022 Updated)

I’ve had this amazing and attractive little tracker for less than 24hrs and I’ve already purchased another for my girlfriend! All complete and delivered on time in perfect working order. All you have to do is change the battery and you’re off and running (walking in my case).

The app is different than others in that it is focused more on overall health and not just weight loss. That resonates with me. Now this may be the older model but at over 75% off the newer versions I am more than satisfied.

I bought this for one of my daughters who wanted a fitbit. I knew this would be better because of its more female centered. She had no idea what it was, but after a few days, loves it! She loves that it can be worn in multiple ways instead of just on her wrist.

And I love that I didn’t have to spend a fortune for my teenager, who tends to misplace her stuff daily. Works great, great condition.

I ordered this Tung oil to use in refinishing a couple of old walnut rifle stocks (1932 and 1934). Preparation and patience is the key to success in using this product. Initial coats should be thinned and sanding/steel wool used between coats with adequate drying time allowed between coats.

Also, thin coats should be applied with adequate drying time allowed for between coats. The later coats which have little or no thinner will take longer to dry. At this point I am quite pleased with how the finish is coming along and look forward to the final product.

As I write this, I have in my hand a tube of Door-Ease that I bought about 40 years ago. At the time it carried the “TRW” Corporate name, and came in a metal tube, sort of like a gigantic version of the various “lip-balm” products on the market(back when that product came in a metal tube also).

I used it infrequently over the years for everything from hard to open/close doors (apparently its intended use) to wooden drawers and aluminum and plastic sliding windows. I would guess that it is some sort of compound of beeswax and possibly paraffin, petrolatim, and other “slippery” ingredients.

Just yesterday I used it again on a stubborn door and jamb, and it still worked Okay, despite having shrunken and turned brown over the years. Noting the deteriorated appearance of the product (what do you expect after 40 years?) and the fact that it was about 3/4 used up, I decided to buy a new tube.

At both a major national hardware superstore and the local small hardware store, employees acted as though they had never heard of such a product, so I found it on this website. I have not found the product to have an offensive order, but having read these negative reviews, I may just stick with using the remainder of what I have.

I might suggest that those who need only a small quantity might try using the “non-scented” version of one or more of the lip balm brands on the market today.

This stuff has been around for years and was happy to discover ACE Hardware has it available. Works great on hood, trunk, and door latches. Also on squeaky fan belts, just be careful. Just wish it came in the metal or cardboad tube like it use to.

Make sure consistancy is on the harder side and not mush.

Bought this mainly to make sure my opener was lubed, I didn’t expect it to quiet down the operation of my opener so much. Not saying it’s silent but it is significantly quieter. Not much in each tube as others have stated but I found it was more than enough for one application.

Using just a thin bead along the length of the screw, I still have some left for future use.

I’ve been using this stuff on my garage door screw for about 25 years. I usually put in on in about November before it gets real cold here in CT and never had a problem. The only thing to watch out for is when they say use is sparingly (of something like that), they mean it.

At first I put about a 2 foot long dab and the ends and middle of the power screw only and it was OK. Now from experience I seem to be able to put is on the whole length of the screw (sparingly) but the tube WILL be empty when I’m done.

I also wiped off the little part of the screw I could see but now I just put it on over the previous grease.

I wish Genie would have had a tube of this lubricant in the box when I originally bought the opener eight years ago! I have tried to find a lubricant to use, but this stuff is absolutely amazing how quietly the opener runs now!.

I have used Tung Oil purchased from Real Milk Paint Co. since fall 2008. I use it on Greenland kayak paddles made from Western Red Cedar, Eastern White Cedar, Spruce, and Pine. From the raw wood, it takes 5 coats to get a glossy, hard, waterproof coating.

The technique is to wipe with a paper towel after coating, then leave in the bright sun. for at least 15 minutes each side. Reciting is needed after three or more months of paddling (approximately 300 miles of [paddling, at the least).

Paddling is in both fresh and salt water. I note a change in the product over the years. Initially, one 2008, I could leave a thicker coat on the paddle when putting it in the sun to cure. It would still harden and not be sticky.

But over the years, it got to where I had to wipe off the excess oil or it would stay tacky. Also, back in 2008, I could go to 7 or more coats, just to make it look nicer. doing that now causes tackiness.

This is with light sanding between coats with 320 paper. I expect this has to do with the environmental factors where the trees grow, as the produce is pure. This is not a problem, just a curiosity. Some Greenland kayakers recommend other types of oil.

I have not tried anything else, since all of the other types a mixtures containing some toxic products, are more complicated to apply, and are not as easily removed when it is time to refinish.

Has anyone seen my coffee? I left it around here somewhere. Hold on a minute. Okay, i’m back, found it. May have to make some more. Anyways, if you are looking for a non-toxic finish that can compete with the million petrofinishes out there, Tung Oil is the way to go.

The drying time can be an issue. rather than reach for the ‘Japan Drier’ (merely a bunch of dissolved metals) consider the natural driers. Believe it or not, the makum-itchy ingredient in Poison Ivy is the best additive for this purpose (didn’t you always suspect there was something it was good for?) But since you probably won’t be exploring that option, try mixing 1:3 with boiled Linseed Oil.

Best of both worlds. And ignore all those Wikipedia Youtube experts who say to water it down with solvents. The 50/50 recommended ‘first coat’ will do nothing but waste time and money. Tung Oil is perfectly capable of soaking into the densest wood all by itself.

And if you do thin it, DO NOT use mineral spirits or any other non-tree solvent. I only use pure turpentine and trust me, i’ve tried everything else including coffee (okay, that was an accident). I ruined several projects before i discovered that Tung Oil and Petrochemicals mix like fiscal responsibility and politicians.

We are waiting to add three more coats and a 30 day cure time, so the tone in the photos will darken and get more consistent, if I can judge by a window-seat we did earlier. I am thrilled to have found the citrus solvent and tung oil finish for our 125 year old white oak (with lots of curly wood grain boards) at Milk Paint.

The product they offer here (tung oil) was used thousands of years ago but is a real breakthrough now for those of us who have had to live with toxic products and meh results for years. Our old floors are pretty now and will be gorgeous when finished.

Application could not be easier. We used brushes for doors and then two Dollar Store sponge mops and two buckets and brushes (and then skating around on the floor with old socks on -haha).

I use this product reliably for my outdoor facing keyholes to help protect from freezing in the winter and seizing up from dust and debris. Has worked well for me with locks and door knobs with built in keyholes facing the elements.

I use generously every 3-4 months.

Worked like magic. My exterior door lock would stick so badly that I’d quit locking it. I picked this 3-in-one up at the store, sprayed it into the lock, then sprayed a bit on both sides of the key. I turned the key in the lock, and it immediately turned.

I then turned it back and forth 10-20 times, to make sure the substance was spread in the mechanism as much as possible. The lock now works great. So easy to use, and works so well.

My wife was complaining that her house key and our spare “hidden” key were no longer working and that she had spent over ten minutes trying to get either key to work. I went to the store intending to get the keys recut when I spotted this product.

Having faith in the WD-40 name, I bought a can instead of new keys. It was magic!! Not only did all our keys slip into the keyhole easily, but they also could be withdrawn with the same ease. Fantastic product that does exactly what it advertises on the can.

Stays wet. If you want a product that is a silicone spray and dries, this is not the product for you. And it is a lot more pricier than your average silicone spray. Home Depot has some good sprays that you will be happy with.

I use this on my treadmill belt when it gets stiff – I put an old sock on my hand, spray it for a couple of seconds with the Permatex, and swipe it under the belt for a ‘smoother ride’. It’s a self-propelled Jane Fonda treadmill.

I also plan to use it on the movable parts of my garage door opener.

Awesome product. Sprays evenly and saturation is very good. Sticks well so I don’t have to reapply. Had squeaky car door hinges and wd40. Would quiet them but in 2 weeks or less would have to reapply.

This silicone has been keeping them quiet for over 6 weeks now. Very pleased.

I have high hopes for this Tung oil. I have an antique sewing machine that was my grandmother’s and I tried it on the bottom of a drawer. I have before and after photos and I’m impressed with the result.

It’s supposed to penetrate and protect the wood. You can add additional layers after each one dries for a glossier effect. I think this would be great for older pieces or wood that has dried and needs to be rejuvenated.

You can either wipe it on with the grain or brush it on. If you use a brush it will need to be cleaned with mineral spirits. I simply wiped with the grain using a microfiber cloth similar to applying a stain.

I’m very excited to complete the sewing machine and use on a few other heirloom pieces I have. I think they’ll look newer and I love the added protection. It does state that you can reapply on down the road as necessary as the wood will absorb the oil.

I have a beautiful teak outdoor table that has been starting to look worn and I applied two coats of Miniwax Tung oil finish to it and and couldn’t be happier!! The oil penetrated quickly into the wood and it looks and feels like it now has a waterproof finish to it.

It was nice that the wood didnt darken when I applied the oil to the table. The table actually has a few stains on it and the Tung oil basically made them disappear! The table looks brand new even though it probably about 10 years old! The Miniwax Tung oil was very easy to apply, the smell was not offensive and cleanup was a breeze.

Definitely would recommend this easy to use product!!.

Minwax Tung Oil Finish is the best you can buy for your projects. I recently used it on a 180 year old rocking chair after stripping multiple coats of paint from and cleaning. By applying over 15 coats and lightly sanding between each, the chair looks as if it was just created.

With proper preparation and following the directions, the product will provide the best quality end result possible. Clean up is easy with mineral spirits. There is minimal odor, though all tung oil has an odor, but wood workers and restoration people like me enjoy it.

I highly recommend Minwax Tung Oil for a lasting protective finish on your wood projects.

Great stuff – Have been using WD-40 ever since it was offered to industry before being put on the general market. There are naysayers out there, but just consider the source. This stuff just plain works for what it is intended to do.

By the way, it relieved the arthritis in my hands too.

Watching I think it was Mustie 1 youtube video, he talked about the new spray top on the WD-40. Having trouble with front door bolt lock, tried silicone, only lasted a short time. Tried WD-40 and so far all is working better than new, thanks.

Lubricates everything and they all work smoothly. Even polish wood floors.

The door is a lot quieter, but it only last about a month. I guess that’s to be expected. I should switch out to some kind of self lubricating door with some kind of oil resolver. Using these cans could get expensive over time.

This worked perfectly, sprayed all moving parts and no more horrible loud noises. They stopped after one open and close!

The spray was OK for springs and rollers, etc. But it definitely made my screw drive much louder after applying. I think the spray actually drove what was left of the lithium grease out. I had to reapplied more lithium grease afterward to quiet the drive down.

Just beware.

I love this stuff. I am spraying it everywhere. Swing doesnt sweak. Patio door is loose to the pull. Garage doors run smoother. God send.

Some reviews sounded like they didn’t read the simple directions, like the need to shake the tube before using! Make sure you do this, holding it flat while shaking gently! Any locksmith will tell you to use graphite now.

You will probably loose track of the second tube because the first will last so long. If you cyber shop, this is a 2-pak purchase. Maybe I’ll give the second tube away instead of trying to keep track of it.

Tube is essentially empty. If one had the inclination and a magnifying glass, one could probably count the number of graphite particles in the tube

NO spray tube. Not advertised as having one, but one commenter said his did. Well, mine didn’t. However, it has an outstandingly strong, narrow spray which, to me, negates the need for a tube. I’d have given it a ‘5’ but for the lack of a tube, which would have helped, but was not absolutely necessary.

Bought a can of Garage Door Lubricant at the Ace hardware. I looked on line to see the recommended way to lube my garage door. I saw the reviews,but didn’t believe that it could be that good. I have an steel, insulated, 8′ door, 16′ wide that I could hardly push open.

I had to take a run from the bottom to get it fully open. I lubed all the hinges, the track, and the springs. As I was getting ready to open the door, I thought about the reviews and thought to myself, “Yah right!” When I opened the door it could be raised with one hand, couldn’t believe it! I have never written a review before, but this product impressed me so much that I came right in and wrote this.

The only thing I don’t know at this time is, how long it will last. Thank you for such a good product!.

So far so good! Let it sit for a long time (more than 3-4 hours) if you don’t want it to leak on your vehicle! Ask me how I know! I bought this mainly for winter time use. I put a very good grease on the tracks/screws last year and during the winter time, the doors would only open about 1/2 way due to the cold (20’s).

That was a mistake on my part – it was automotive grease. I hope this will provide better protection during the winter and we’ll see. So far, for a couple of mornings in the 30’s, the doors opened just fine.

I use a lot of WD-40 for many things from bolt/nut loosening to battery post protection. Spraying aluminum brackets and assemblies with WD prevent the white ‘rust’ aluminum gets (oxidation) as well. Spray it and rust has a holiday for a few months.

I use a qt spray bottle, shake it well before using (you can see an opaque white ‘layer’ settled at the bottle of the spray bottle) and you always have a fresh batch. I use the flexible nozzle can as well for targeted applications but the bulk sprayer is a great addition to the WD arsenal.

BTW, I transfer the gallon to a clothes soar or softener bottle with a pushbutton release to make refilling the qt bottle easier.

I bought a spray can of this last year and I have used it for all the hinges, latches and locks on my car and my Dad’s car and trucks. Stuff works and keeps working regardless of the weather, costs more money but it’s well worth it! I would recommend this on most anything that has moving parts to anyone!.

I stumbled upon this after 10 years of searching. lol My father introduced me to this product back in 1997 and honestly I wasn’t all blown away by it back then. That all changed when I decided to open my shop in 2001 when I ran into multiple issues with rusty bolts.

Kept using the off brand stuff with no good results. I stumbled onto this site around 2009 and low and behold here was the “miracle” cure to rust!!! I have since spent hard earned cash on this product.

it is simply put the best stuff on earth. I normally buy the 16 oz cans but woukld buy this in 5 gallon buckets if I could. It absolutely does what it says. with the occassional bolt that just is too tough even for it.

Either way the value, quality and price of this liquid gold is worth everyones time!!.

Years ago, I had purchased a can of Lock-Ease. I have used it many many times and am almost out. I have looked and looked at local hardware and big-box stores and never found this product. I bought other products and ended up throwing them away as they were useless! I was thrilled when I finally thought to Google the product and found a link to Walmart, my good old reliable Walmart — should have done that first — wouldn’t have wasted all that time and money on other products.

Thank you, Walmart for making Lock-Ease available. Ordering is so easy. Shipping was free and it arrived before a week was out. One more thing – I will recommend this to friends, but I also bought an extra can to give to a friend whose dog I let out when she gets stuck at work late.

Her lock has been “cranky” recently, and I will give her a can and show her how to use it. Win-win all the way around!.

I worked in a old hardware store for many years. We carried or could get just about anything and always carried this. I used it all the time as it is the best of the best. My son tried to find it everywhere and couldn’t so I knew I could find it and ordered a whole case.

This product seems to work fine. There was a different brand, in a smaller size, for twice the money and we chose to go frugal. Not disappointed at all!

I wanted to try a different lubricant other than WD40, and this one was on sale. The price was good (<$4. 00). It's easy to pinpoint exactly where you want to apply the oil (as opposed to a spray). The small bottle is easy to carry in my backpack (I'm a traveling teacher who often needs to oil stuck endpins, tuners, music stands, and such).

A little goes a long way. When you used the product, you might want to keep a towel handy, until you learn how to keep the product from overflowing the tip (similar to super glue). Once you learn how to do that, it’s perfect.

I highly recommend it.

I have used this oil for years and it’s my favorite oil. This new plastic container needs to stay upright or it will leak. Also when pulling the cap off the whole spout comes off. With the new packaging I can’t use this without getting oil on my hands.

The oil is fantastic, but, this container is awful. It’s bad enough I’m thinking of alternatives. Just because the packaging is cheaper doesn’t mean it’s better. Also the plastic is far worse for the environment, it can’t even be recycled because it’s laden with oil.

Please go back to your old tin can, nothing was better.

When my father bought his house from my grandfather, a small METAL bottle of this was sitting in the utility room. We always looked at it as a sign of good luck because house us great and we actually used the same bottle of oil to improve our home.

So many uses. Bicycles, ATV parts, door hinges, tools, you name it, we use 3 in 1 for it. I do prefer the old metal bottles over the new plastic ones, even though i haven’t had that many issues with the new plastic ones.

On the plastic bottles without the telescopic spout, there is a very small lip around the edge of the lid, which usually help so hold and excess oil left on the spout so it doesn’t get on the rest of the bottle, all over your hands, and onto everything in your path to the sink.

The old metal bottles had a lip that was about 1/2 inch tall and it held way more than enough oil than it ever required to. I always dump the plastic bottle of oil into a metal pump oiler. I would love to see you bring back the old metal bottles.

I understand that all the machinery required to make the plastic bottle (unless you buy them from an outside source) would have to be trashed or sold and replaced with the new stuff but you could easily charge more per bottle and i would still buy it.

Also how can i buy a gallon of the origional formula?.

What I usually use this product for is. first I will use some crud buster pressurized solvent and strip all the old dirt and lube build up in different gun actions then spritz this product on the same actions.

It dries leaving a lubricating film that doesnt attract dirt like oil products do. I suppliment this on super heavy wear areas like slide rails with synthetic lithium grease but the fine internals run super well with just this WD 40 dry lube.

Does what it says, lubricated delicate parts like door locks. I use it to clean woodworking machines since its not petroleum based and wood wont absorb it.

Yes it will be a staple in my home from now on. Not greasy and makes my sliding doors actually slide easily.

I used this product to lubricate car door latch mechanism lately as recommended by the shop manual. It becomes gummy with cold weather and offers little or no lubrication at all. One of my car door coud not close at all after using this product.

My wife was on her way to the daycare with the boys when this happened. I call Jig-a-Loo to get help and advise, they offered nothing, no advise or no replacement product, they dont stand behind their product.

I ended up cleaning this messy grease with good old WD 40 with compressed air and spraying light sillicone spray. Now the car door is operating again normally like it was before. Dont use this product on mechanism or anything that needs to go below 0 celcius.
