IšverstiShow in original languageIt’s fully synthetic, and I keep a quart on hand for topping off. Being able to buy in the big jugs does save a little money, but not much. Quarts are easier when topping off because I can keep it in the car.

Maybe VW/Audi can figure out how to make an engine that doesnt sip motor oil. but that’s a different issue so I’ll digress.

I’ve been using Mobile 1 Extended Performance 5W20 full synthetic, changing it every 10,000 miles since I drive 95% of the time on the highway.

To save a few dollars as I am a college student living on a budget, I changed the oil to Castrol Edge 5W40 full synthetic at the local VW dealer. NO MORE TICKING, ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE A DREAM (so quiet, other than the fans coming on very high because it was 95 degrees out), and no issues whatsoever jumping from a watery weight oil to a thicker more durable oil.

Until the car dies, I’m using Castrol Edge 5W40.

Fantastic product… it does what it says…

It’s the correct grade of oil for my Atlas. It meets the VW motor oil spec for my Atlas. It makes the rods stay in the block of my Atlas’s motor. It makes the pistons stay in the head of my Atlas’s motor.

So I guess it’s ok. For real tho: I’ve never sent an oil sample off to a lab for analysis, so I have no idea how the oil itself compares to, say, Amazon Basics motor oil. But I do like that it comes with an oil change reminder sticker right on the bottle, that’s handy.

Also the spout that pulls out of the cap is intuitive and convenient. So skip the oil that comes in a boring bottle and buy this instead.

I’ve tried many synthetic oils in my cars, from Mobil1 to Castrol to Fuchs. The Synthoil seems to do the best. It is the least discolored, cleanest, and keeps its viscosity over time. The German-made syn oils definitely wear the best.

Synthoil performs and lasts just a hair better than the others.

Audi A4 B7 2. 0T quattro 135,551 miles. I have done 12k miles, and three changes with Liqui-moly Syn Premium 5W-40 motor oil and could not be happier with this product. Previously used Castrol Edge synthetic.

Along with change-out of the HPFP cam follower, I have pretty much eliminated excess tappet noise from the top end. The car runs better than ever. For some reason Audi’s just love this stuff. Smooth-smooth-baby! BTW- I believe there was some intake valve fouling on the Castrol which has disappeared since using LM.

The idle has gradually smoothed and the car seems to have better low-end grunt now. Also, I have been buying LM through ECS because of the excellent price and fast shipping. Outstanding! Kent.

Some people purchase synthetics quoting scientific data about how it’s best, some people buy high priced racing oils, but none of them keep the same vehicle for more than 100,000 miles so I wonder why they spend the money on supposedly “superior” motor oils.

I don’t bother with the “high mileage” or other gimmicky stuff. Just this stuff every 3,000 miles.

Good oil, use the 1L/1QT to top up when my car is low. Castrol EDGE has a wide range of oil. I like this 5W-40 because it is also an EURO blend that’s LL-01 / Long Life-01 for my BMW. However, the price of this oil keeps going up at Canadian Tire.

I rather buy 2 of the 5L jugs when on sale (45-50% off) and just top it up in this 1L container when needed. This 1L costs half the price of the 5L jugs when on sale.

I have been using Mobil 1 synthetic for my cars for the last 30 years. This allows me to change the oil once per year thus saving the environment (and my pocket). In the early days, Mobil used to advertise the oil as being good for 25K miles (I remember the ads stating you could drive around the world) – nowadays they have dropped those claims – I think to pad their pockets.

I lived in Germany for 3 years and bought a new BMW 3 series while I was there – I drove about 50K kilometers during that time – only towards the end did the BMW dealer recommend an oil change because of the synthetic oil that was in the engine.

In Europe they hardly ever change the oil less than 2 years unless there are a lot of miles on the car – in the US, we waste a lot of oil and damage the environment because of the marketing pressure to change the oil at less than optimum levels.

I would strongly recommend using this synthetic oil as they are the ones who started it.

Provides slightly better fuel economy than Audi’s recommended Castrol, about 1 MPG better on the highway. Never had an engine problem using it in my 1999 and newer Mercedes cars for the past 15 years.

Not a good choice for the the older classic cars that need sulfur in the oil (dino oil) to expand older engine gaskets so that they don’t leak. Bought my used 1958 Mercedes off the Mercedes-Benz dealer’s showroom floor that was covered with oil; apparently they had put this oil in that car when it was traded in; drove it home, put in conventional oil and the leaks stopped.

I feel secure driving my car when I’m using Mobil 1 full synthetic oil. I also compared the price between Costco and AutoZone. Fellows I was surprised that AutoZone price was cheaper by a few cents. Good job AutoZone.

I’m sure if there anyone out there with the same experience I had please blog it for the community to find out and take advantage of the savings and most of all is your personal time.

IšverstiShow in original languageI am into Radio Control aircraft and going into the bigger “gassers” that run high performance 2 cycle engines (25cc and up. mine runs a 35cc engine). Many in the hobby swear by Redline Racing oil and I decided to give it a try by running a Redline mix through my yard tools (weed-eater, blower, 2 different Stihl chainsaws.

) The difference was very apparent. I’m also running a tad lighter mix there also. Instead 50:1 using closer to 60:1 So far so good. Looking forward to going to the Redline mix for my RC plane if this test was any indication of the performance improvement I expect to see.

Expect I’ll go for the one gallon container next.

IšverstiShow in original languageI have been using this oil in two small high-performance 2-stroke engines. It is a bit pricey but totally worth it. Engine runs great. When I borescope the cylinder it is completely clean inside.

It seems like Canadian Tire doesn’t stock it regularly in my area, which is unfortunate.

IšverstiShow in original languageI was told that this is the best oil to use with 5 gal of non-ethanol gas for gas 2 stroke engines. Ethanol mixes with water and can cause engine and carburetor problems over time.

Those who recommended it say that over the years they have used this combination they have seen no problems.

TraduireAfficher dans la langue originaleI’ve got a high compression 400 in my BelAir. Every other smallblock I’d built was mild in comparison and I ran 10w30 halvoline, always had, and never had any issues.

The 10w30 not only resulted in noise this time around, but once warmed oil pressure was entirely to low. Ordered this redline 10w40 and the improvement was phenomenal. Much much quieter, and oil pressure at idle gets down to 15 minimum after warm up.

Lesson learned, very pleased. A bit steep, but a whole lot more affordable than another build.

TraduireAfficher dans la langue originaleRed Line 10W-40 has politically-incorrect levels of ZDDP plus a healthy dose of moly, along with true Group IV/V base stocks. This isn’t a Group III hydrocracked dino oil like most cheaper so-called ‘synthetic’ oils on the market.

I use it in all my gas & diesel engines. Extended drain intervals help offset the cost; oil analysis results have been excellent. Great stuff!.

I used to be an avid Mobil fan, I ran it in my Honda since it was new, and I ran it in my 16 year old Tundra. Both vehicles are known for their reliability, having said that there were some things I noticed comparatively speaking.

1 The Honda would religiously consume about 3/4 of a quart every 1500 miles since the car gets short tripped a lot, and we live in Arizona. The truck was a fair bit better about it, so every 2200 miles Id top off half a quart.

2 on both the Toyota and the Honda, after about 2500 miles or so, the engine would feel tired, and wed start to lose mileage in the tank. I was raised on Castrol, reading forums and such, I made the choice to switch over to Mobil back in the day.

I decided to give Edge a shot, and lo and behold, oil consumption has been reduced drastically, and mileage remains consistent. I also have less top end noise. The butt Dyno is happy. My father still runs Castrol in his Sienna.

But he runs the Magnatec/GTX synthetic formula thats supposedly a step down from edge and the motor is quiet and happy. Im no expert, but Id say that these are products that deliver what they market, and that provides a huge sense of security against crazy repairs or sneaky damage in the long term.

Its been a year since I put this in my 2003 VW Passat W8 and I looked at last week and its just as clean as the day I put it in, very very close. Its actually clearer now than other oils are brand new.

It was a bargain last year. I guess it was on sale. I dont know how to predict those. I will say that if you bring your own oil and filter, the cost to change your oil is very pleasant. Youve paid in advance, so its still expensive to have a car.

Its just great that you can know the quality of whats going in your car. The clarity may have been partly due to the Bosch oil filter. Its specs are much better than other brands. install and you know the filter is the best.

Bosch cabin filters are awesome too. Id recommend buying oil filters and cabin filters in quantity so you dont have to go to the trouble of buying them. Just get the oil. Does oil store well? I began to doubt that.

So Im not recommending that. I am here to buy it again, so Id recommend doing these things too. If you take your car to an oil change place, be sure you pick out quality oil, oil filter and cabin filter beforehand, and bring them when you go.

Its your assurance that your doing the best you can for your car, and not just leaving it up to the Quicky Change places choices for their benefit. And yes, of course its great to see that the oil change will be so cheap by comparison to buying their oil at the same time.

It may be me tricking myself by spreading out the costs, call it what you will. Its still nice to know everything is my choosing and the oil change charge will be cheap, since youre bringing your own stuff.

Its like a reward for taking the time and trouble to shop for what you think is best. You might change your mind later. Who knows? I liked this oil and I liked the Bosch filters I bought too. This oil seems like its smoother at high RPM, over 6,000.

Thats where I noticed the engine sounding like its taking it easy. Before, I really avoided driving in that.

I have bought this product before. My 2010 F150 has 125k miles on it. When I was running Motorcraft, and other oils in my truck did not do very well mileage wise. I was getting about 12 to 13 combined.

I put the Castrol oil in and I am back up to 17 to 18 miles per gallon combined. When on the highway I was getting about 20 miles per gallon. I have 5. 4 liter Triton engine and that is pretty good for that engine with 20 in tires.

It was also loaded up with luggage, and emergency equipment for what ever might happen while traveling. I am a veteran and a boy scout. Be prepared and you cant use it if you dont have it with you. Any way with the price of gasoline, and the price of everything climbing faster than income now days.

You do what you can to protect your ride. I am not willing to pay for the price of a decent truck at these indecent prices. Also it helps to keep a higher quality oil filter in use! The Paper one are good for 3000 miles or less, and I would go with less with a paper filter, while the others are good for at least 5k or more.

This is Castrol’s premium oil for hard working engines in stop ‘n’go traffic. Like Magnatec, Castrol claim it has a titanium-added composition improves wear under extreme temperatures and pressures in the engine.

This is also supposed to be good for anti-sludging. has chemical additive cleaners. So. the logic is that you add it, use it drain it. Add it use it drain it with a top quality filter change each time.

Can’t hurt to change the filter more ofter as well, just to extra clean the oil. Castrol is a good brand used for high performance motoring in many applications in Europe, where emissions and regukatin s on petro-chemical products are stringent.

As everyone not living under a rock knows at present the “go to” oils for these engines are not obtainable due to supply chain problems. This *specific* formula is a suitable replacement for ALH-engine VW diesels; it has the required “C” rating, is 505.

00 rated AND is a 5w40 full-synthetic. While its a bit more money than the long-term go-to T6 I’ve used for 300,000 miles its a viable alternative that meets the specs. Note that the “PD” and later engines *cannot* use a 505.

00 without unacceptable cam wear, so if you have one of those you’re stuck with harder-to-find and more-expensive options (e. g. Motul, etc. ).

The number one thing about the product was it’s availability. I searched high and low locally, and couldn’t find the 5 quart container. Although my vehicle takes just a little over 6 quarts, finding one quart bottles wasn’t a problem.

Secondly, the price was right, and it was delivered on time. Nothing but good things to say, was my experience.

This oil works great on my mini cooper. had no problems or changes in performance when added. Will only use this.
