20 Best Oil For Old Cars (2022 Updated)

My comments is not on the product BUT the delivery. There was a leak in one of the plastic container. You can see the stain on the brown box before opening. They must know because they place plastic liner to contain the leak; also the invoice, oil stained, in the box has somebody’s name and different price.

Since there was still good amount oil left I choose not to return. Too messy. Took pictures of the stained box. Should have replaced the leaking container.

I’ve got a ’91 Nissan Pathfinder with 305,000 miles on it and this is what I use. She’s still running the same as ever, so this stuff seems okay to me! Also, this oil was recommended to me by a mechanic that I truly trust (I know everyone says this), but he had nothing to gain being retired and living 4 states away from me.

I also use it in my BMW with 235,000 miles.

Back in the 80s we had a commercial where a group of nerdy scientists in lab coats set up a bunch of 4 cylinder engines in a white laboratory, filled them with different brands of oil. They then ran the engines and then drained them of oil.

They continued to run the engines until, one after another, they blew up. The engine that had Castrol in it continued to run long after the other’s siezed up with the lab coat guys looking on astonished.

Of course that’s just a commercial but I was a little kid and that advertisement had more effect on me than some NASCAR driver with huge sideburns trying to sell me Pennzoil or another NASCAR driver with a mullet selling me Valvoline.

In modern times nobody except Lucas talks about how it can save an engine, and all oil brands are pretty much generic and the same. Royal Purple goes out of its way to say how purple food coloring somehow makes their product superior, but it’s just purple food coloring, there’s nothing chemically different about thier oil.

They even went so far as to claim in a few commercials that they use nanotechnology to formulate their oil. Wow! A form of technology that is currently science fiction because we haven’t even gotten to that point? But they’re already allegedly using microscopic robots in their oil!!! Amazing! That must be what the purple food coloring is! Little robots from Star Trek the Next Generation! They removed the zinc from all the oil a few years ago but, surprise surprise, you can buy an additive to put the zinc back in!!! I guess the real question is why did they take it out and why can you now buy an additive to put it back in? I still buy Castrol, more out of stupid brand loyalty than anything else, and the fact that it’s usually on sale, but it certainly doesn’t instill the confidence that it will out perform all other engine oils.

And to be honest, probably never did, but it was great advertising!.

This stuff is very slippery. Works well with engines needing extra lubrication. My pistons are very big and her cylinder walls sadly have seen many miles but with this lubricant I was able to get full combustion.

With a block my size this had me gliding like a pro.

I have used Castrol GTX Engine Oil in my vehicles since the 1980’s and have never had an engine oil related failure. I trust Castrol Engine Oil’s to keep my car’s & truck’s going. No problems what more can you ask for from an engine oil ? J.

Castrol Edge is some of the best oil in the market and far the superior oil you can commonly find in store. Used this in a 2006 CRV with the economy based VTEC k24 variant. Honda engines with VTEC solenoids function far better with high quality oils.

I just wish I could get 0w30 as I live in the 46th parallel and cold weather is a good 7 months here. Pleased with the product no doubt.

I started using Castrol back in the early 80’s and always felt it was a good oil. Now that my Cuze turbo engine requires at least a blend to full synthetic I always use Edge Full synthetic. Now if you insist on changing your oil more frequently say ever 3 to 5 thousand miles, don’t bother buying synthetic.

Because the advantage won’t be noticed and not cost effective. I run at least 8 to 10 thousand miles between oil changes and the oil is not breaking down. This is the advantage of synthetic to extend drain intervals.

Turbo engines especially need oil that holds up under high heat conditions. I’ve seen the effects of people that put cheap oil in turbo’s and face early engine or turbo failures. Not cheap to replace a turbo.

Even non turbo engines today run harder and are typically filled at factory with synthetic oil.

Let’s see. I have changed the oil in my Father’s cars since the 60s. And now mine. We used to use the Pennzoil 30 weight back in the day, but since Castro Syntec came around, I use nothing else. I only have two examples since I drive my vehicles till the wheels fall off.

1. Brand new 1989 Geo Metro with a 3 cylinder Susuki motorcycle engine. I think I would still be driving that car now, if in the 2000s, two hurricanes didn’t attack and kill my car while it was parked in Fort Pierce when I was riding a ship for the Air Force in the western Pacific.

It had over 270K when they towed it away. My Father gave me his 1995 Lincoln Towncar since he wanted to upgrade my Mother’s car before he died. It now has over 355K and runs great still! Take care of you car and you will get your money’s worth.

Why pay more for “supposedly” better oils? The reality is sure there’re better oils on paper however you or your bike will never know the difference. I’ve tried them all on three different motorcycles.

I run this on a Street Glide with no odd noises or issues. For the record, don’t run the car type M1 that cost half the price. I tried that one but due to the low zinc dose it made top end noise. Went back to M1 VTwin and again no odd noises or issues.

This is a great oil, keeps you covered, with it’s synthetic blend, from Motorcraft! I. ve used this oil in my Vehicles since 2007 and does a great job and I use it today, in my 2018 F150, 5. 0 L engine and I had a 2002 Ford Focus with over 208,000 miles on it and the Focus ran real good and didn’t burn a bunch of oil, in between changes, it’s never failed on me and with the high heat this year, I’ve been using the 5-30, where I normally use the %-20 WT.

Been using Motorcraft synthetic blend for years in our ford chassis V10 motorhomes. Never had an oil problem and I have high confidence in this oil. I use the Motorcraft oil filter also.

I tried several other brands of oil. This brand seemed to work the best for our 2014 Chevrolet Captiva. I wish I had used this oil from the date I purchased the car. Motorcraft 5W-30 Synthetic Blend Engine Oil will always be my first choice.

The price is affordable and definitely worth it.

1998 Tacoma, I used to drive this truck for 250miles/day, Using Castrol-GTX/3000miles. Soon as it reached 1500miles, gpm went from 20 to 17. I tried every things that people recommended on the internet to improve gpm.

sparkplug changed every 25k-30kmiles(do not use Bosh Platinum, just OEM Nippon Denso plug). Nothing worked. Soon as I switched over to Mobil1 Sync with OEM oil filter. My truck drove better, smoother, quieter and gpm remain @20gpm until the next oil changed which is 10Kmiles.

You can see the Viscosity of the oil remain the same, just darker. So I switched all my whole family vehicles(5 Toyotas, sedan-truck-van-SUV) to used this type of oil since 2000. Since I maintenance all vehicles myself, this 10kmiles oil change save me a lots of times and $$$$.

Let me tell you an impressive story about this oil. I gave my son the truck for his college years, in 4year. When the truck did not run(because of the MAF sensor clogged), he called me to come checked the truck, there was no oil on the dipstick.

DRIED!!!! Soon as I cleaned the MAF, I cranked the engine, it started right away. there is no issue with the engine. I still driving it now. over 200kmiles/24yrs still running like new. why buy new vehicles since mine run and looks like new plus paid off.

Started using Mobile 1 in a new 2005 CRV at the first oil change. Changed the oil and filter ever year. Sometimes with 8K on the oil. Sometimes 12K. I did the 100K plug change and checked the valve lash.

The plugs could probably last 200K. What was very impressive was the valve lash was within 0. 001 of being in tolerance. The cam chain guides had no wear and timing chain marks were dead on. The inside of the valve cover was clean and looked new other then some slight yellow heat stains.

Beyond belief. Been doing all my own work since the 60s. I know what is impressive.

Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5W20 until 75,000 miles then Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5W30. My wife’s 2016 KIA SOUL would crank and run with no issues right up until someone hit her from behind on the Interstate and totaled her car.

She was going about 55 mph and they were going at least 80 to 100 mph. The care was folded under, but the engine was running like normal while the Highway Patrol had to pry her out of the car and the Tow Truck guy had to open the hood and disable it to get the engine to stop running.

My wife suffered no injuries. We went and purchased a new KIA SPORTAGE and are using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Oil in it. Who ever buys that car for the engine is getting a solid KIA SOUL engine. At 200,000 miles we started using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 20,000 mile oil.

That Soul would crank and start like a new car. We have a 2001 Ford F-250 V-10 Triton Crew Cab and 2002 Ford F-250 5. 4L Crew Cab 4X4 and they both are above 200,000 miles and we run Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 20,000 mile oil in them.

Recommended by Manufacturer to use 5w 30 with my Turbo 4 cyl. engine. I would run a thicker oil, since I am losing one half quart per 1000 miles. Dealer knows but won’t do anything about it. But I trust Castrol and used it for years with all vehicles and small engines.

Will just keep adding it as needed, until I can get a replacement on engine New cars with low miles should not have this issue. I’ve run system cleaners and use good gasoline, that helps the performance, but still lose some oil somewhere.

KIA is not the best Dealer when it comes to Customer Service, I prefer Dodge , and have a Dodge too. Their Customer Service is Excellent. Castrol Is my choice of Oil no matter the vehicle.

I have been using Castrol for 25 years but When i poured the oil into my truck i saw something black in the bottom of the jug. I took pictures and sent my concern to Castrol and they said dont drive the truck and change your oil immediately and they would get back with me.

I have not heard back from them!! Now my truck ticks on start up and it only has 26,000 miles on it. Has something changed with the Castrol oils?.

The tests dont prove the longevity and cleaning aspects of engine oilsMy review:I went on this quest on YouTube and forums online to find the best synthetic 5W30 for my Tacoma. I checked out Home Deliveries USA Basics and Shell Rotella as well as this Mobil 1 and Supertech.

All are great oils, I found that the Shell oil had slightly miniscule more harmful metals than Mobil 1 but less than Home Deliveries USA oil. I also learned these companies will take out or add different things to have the SN plus badge which may take away from the longevity of the lubricating or cleaning qualities.

Home Deliveries USA doesnt have a write up for their oil like most other companies including Wal-Mart which is supposed to be the same Warren oil. For that simple fact I took it out of my choices. Home Deliveries USA and Wal-Mart are known to find the cheaper oils to resell and may end up changing in the future from Warren.

Mobil 1 is a trusted name and has all the requirements of a synthetic oil anyone should need. I have not experienced burning or loss of oil in either of my vehicles, one of which has 270,000 miles on it.

I dont run my oil 10 or 20,000 miles or whatever people are doing lately. I change my oil between 3 and 5000 miles which I know for certain is good and healthy maintenance to keep my engine running clean and strong.

I recommend that for everyone regardless of what these companies are claiming. I trust myself and my maintenance schedule. None of these companies are going to replace my engine if what they are claiming is false.

Mobil 1 is the oil Toyota uses from the factory and this along with my small research is enough for me.

I have used other oils over the years. There are other good brands out there but I like to use Castrol. I especially like the GTX Synthetic Blend 10W-30 for older vehicles because it doesn’t break down with the heat of the engine.

I feel it also protects the pistons and inside the engine because of the synthetic blend better than regular oils do.

I wanted to change the oil on my 92 F150 before it went to its biennial smog check. My truck has well over 150000 miles, and the oil was pushing over 3000 miles of use and several years of inactivity.

My man Scotty Kilmer, on YouTube, recommends changing the engine oil as an item that will help a vehicle pass inspection. I purchased not only this quart but also a five-quart jug of GTX High Milage 10w-30.

The 351 takes just under 6 quarts. In my neglectful maintenance, the oil I drained out was very dirty, but now, a week later with new oil and filter, it is running fresh and clean. So yesterday I passed my smog check at Honest Smog, and I am all set to pay the DMV.

I am puzzled why Castrol GTX Motor Oil is in my list to review for beauty products. I am going to review it though because I have used this product. I have to make this clear. this IS NOT a beauty product.

It is a motor oil that I used in my car and I can highly recommend it as a motor oil for a vehicle. My brother is a mechanic and recommended Castrol GTX and I used it for the life of my car and my car never had any oil issues.

I changed my oil every 3,000 miles and I never had a problem. I highly recommend if you are looking for a motor oil, but ask a professional before using first.

Have to watch out for Walmart pricing, in the title it clearly says 1 Quart (Case of 6) but you are really actually only getting 1 quart. I know others who have gotten the case size but others including myself did not.

I chatted with support they said it was a mistake on their website and only offered a partial refund. The 5 quart container is a much better deal anyways and if I had known that I was only receiving 6 quarts I wouldn’t have even placed this order.

I don’t even really use Mobil 1 anymore because all of the other competition has caught up and are usually cheaper options. Mobil 1 is still an excellent oil but it’s pricey when compared to the others that can do the same for less.

Walmart support is so spotty with who you chat with, some have resolved the issue by having the remaining quarts shipped out but then others like myself are only offered a refund.

What can I say about synthetic motor oil? Aside from the color of the container and the pretty label, it didn’t look any different than other synthetic oils on the shelf. Since my vehicle is “mobile”, I purchased the “Mobil” oil.

Wasn’t too concerned about the mispelling because the pronunciation was the same whether the “e” was there or not. The price did make me question why I have a vehicle that requires synthetic motor oil.

Holy boogers it is pricey. Nonetheless, I’m almost certain the cost is worth it, or I’m just as stupid as everyone else buying “the best” synthetic motor oil. Well, I bought 2 quarts, a big oil conglomerate made $20, it’s in my engine, and my engine didn’t complain.

Surely, it would have spit it back in my face had the flavor been off or it was expired and stinky like warm sour cream. The truth is that I was so excited to put this oil in my engine that I forgot to put the oil cap back on.

200 miles later, I went to check the oil and low and behold the cap was sitting right there on the fan shroud. Silly me, I’m an idiot. But gosh darnit, my engine is full of oil, it’s running the same as it did before, and I’m sure this oil had nothing to do with it except raise the oil line on the dipstick.

I’ve used mobile 1 since I can remember. My Z just turned 202k. Been running mobil 1 in it since I purchased it with 25k on it. I’m very tentative about how I change oil as well, I drain, refill with new, run it for a few minutes to clean out what’s still in the cooler, block & lines etc, because I just don’t believe in dropping the plug and draining what’s in the pan.

Then after it’s run with the new oil I drain it and use compressed air thru the oil filter Orpheus to completely rid every drop of oil remaining in the system. People poke fun and say I’m crazy, but they then wonder why my vehicles last ridiculously amounts of mileage never requiring repairs.

I’ve done this with all my vehicles and it’s proof that it works, and Mobile 1 products are what they say they are. Ive disassembled engines after running mobile 1 products and am always amazed how clean they appear internally.

Laugh all u want about my method, but my odometer always tells the tale and dispells the haters. Mobil 1 products are the ONLY products I will ever use in my vehicles, hands down no question.

Bought my 2011 Nissan Frontier in 2014 with 48,000 miles. Used Ester oil until it became 15. 00 qt. Savey mechanic said use Mobil 1 full synthetic high mileage up to 20,000 miles. Glad I did, my truck now has 202,700 miles on it and actually runs better then the ester oil did.

When I took it in this last time the mechanic said he could not believe how clean my engine was for the amount of miles it had!!! Let me know my engine is still strong. Of course the dealership tried to get me to trade it in.

I was hesitant to use it on my 2013 Range Rover Evoque. But given I pay $500 on oil change at dealership I thought I’d give this a try. Oil seems to be of great quality for European engines, especially with the titanium tech.

I’ve used it two times so far and car drives like a beast.

There’s lots of controversy about zinc content. All I can tell you is after listening to previous lifter rattling in my Jeep 4.0, once I switched to this oil, Dead Silence. I’m sold.

I can’t buy this Lucas Hotrod oil locally. I found Speedway on Ebay Motors and they had the best deal with free shipping. M delivery was for 4-7 business days and it arrived in 3 days! After I received my purchase I was in Columbus oh and visited Jegs racing store.

The same oil was 2 dollars a quart more in the store! I will always now shop Speedway first. Thanks.

Great product. Using this in a 1978 Corvette Indy Pace Car I have. It has plenty of ZDDP in it, so you don’t have to add the bottle of additive. I use Lucas products almost exclusively, and have not been disappointed.

From my lawman mower, generator, pressure cleaner and my motorcycle. 250,000 miles Tundra, 189,000 miles. Dodge Ram, 179,000 Honda Odyssey, 186,000 4Runner, 167,000 Camry is my testimony of the quality of this oil.

IšverstiShow in original languageI have used MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC in all my Porsches (street and track) since the 80’s, but that is another story. This story is about a lawn mower which I bought new and ran “wide open” as a residential “bush hog” for 32 years.

I changed the oil every spring with MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC and noticed each year the oil while dirty (because of the atrocious operating environment) the engine used no oil and performed flawlessly. I became fascinated at about 20 years when I realized this lawnmower was falling apart in every way, wheels, carb, housing sheet metal, studs and bolts backing out of the engine, it was a complete wreck EXCEPT: it burned no oil and suffered no mechanical failures after running for decades and thousands of hours wide open (wished I had a HOBBS).

To say the least, I loved this mower, my friends and neighbors howled at my eccentricity, but I paid them no mind, I know and understand true devotion, PLUS I had an ongoing SCIENCE PROJECT which I was going to push (literally and figuratively) to its conclusion.

At 30 years the mower deck was “fully ventilated” and was probably dangerous, it needed its third set of wheels and the whole affair was just simply “string and bailing wire”. None the less, I was not giving up on “The Red Devil”.

I had owned this mower half my life and I was beginning to wonder who was going to be the last one running. I had hoped to open the engine one day and examine the wear index. However, at 32 years my better half insisted that “The Red Devil” had to go.

I presented it to a young ARMY vet (who had admired it from afar) with the understanding that he would only use MOBIL-1 SYN and contact me IF the engine ever needed to be taken down as I wished to see the mysteries within.

In great solemnity he assured me he would honor the terms and nervously loaded The Red Devil it into his truck. I take great comfort in knowing that if there is a heaven for lawn mower engines, “The red devil” is holding court! I concluded years ago that The Red Devil’s longevity was 100% due to MOBIL-1 SYNTHETIC.

To this day, I can not hear a mower run without harking back to all the good times with The Red Devil. In spite of all my pleas, my attorneys say I do not have a case against MOBIL and have suggested therapy.

IšverstiShow in original languageI always use Mobile 1 10,000 mile oil. I use it on the lawn equipment, wood chipper,and snowblower too. For my car its lasts about 8,000 before I change it. When I change it it is very dirty so maybe I shod do it sooner but I wait for 8000.

On the pickup, milage is low so I leave the oil for 1 year all the time. Done this on 4 cars over the past 20 years wirh no problems.

My 3. 0L Ford is VERY happy to have such quality oil and purrs like a tiger with it. This oil seems to keep internal engine clean unlike paraffin and clay based oils from competitors which gum and clog up inside the engine.

Having torn down and repaired or rebuilt over 100 engines myself, I can spot a quality oil from a cheap oil instantly.

My research showed that Mobil 1 is the BEST most-affordable synthetic. I only use Mobil 1. I only use 5W-30. So when I saw BJ’s great price, I was grateful. THANK YOU BJ’s! P. S. DIY your own oil changes.

Oil change is NUMBER ONE preventive maintenance for your engine’s longevity. Keep good records. Change your own oil.

IšverstiShow in original languageSo for many years, I have used Mobile mineral based oil. I decided on a whim to use the synthetic in my wife’s Fiesta. The first thing I noticed was how much quieter the valvetrain was compared to even the Mobil mineral oil.

It also feels slightly quicker (In a heavier car with a bigger engine, it probably wouldn’t be as noticeable. But in a car this light with a 1600 cc four cylinder, even 5 hp is noticeable). I would recommend this oil to anyone with a later model engine due to how much quieter my engine is.

That’s a good sign that the oil is good and slick as well as making it to crucial parts.

Autozone is fast becoming my favorite local auto parts store. Submitted order online, was ready very quickly. AZ seems to stock better products than others (like genuine Toyota oil filters) and good quality oils like Penzoil and viscosity choices like 0w-40 rather than the 5w-40 other places carry.

With specialty cars like Porsches, I generally end up ordering parts off the internet, but I will check to see if they carry quality brand (ie NOT fram) filters for German cars (Mann, Mahle).

My mechanic said the camshaft seals in my 1991 Mercury Capri were leaking oil-after about 6 months of usage the oil leaks stopped. I am sold on this product as it seems to recondition seals in old cars.

I am currently using it in my 94 Deville 4. 9 and the rear main seal has almost stopped leaking. Both vehicles were Florida condo cars that would sit for months as the owners were out of state-bottom line: Drive vehicles on a regular basis! Jeff.

This stuff nearly ruined my engine. Way to thick. Like honey. Car could hardly turn over when cold. Had to take it out. Complete waste of money.

This new smokeless oil has help me drive without a ticket from the police. It also helps allow to park close to the business. As before when the truck was started, it smoked bad, so bad people look at me and shake their heads.

NO MORE!!!!!! Thank you for saving me and my truck.

You don’t expect a product in a bottle like this to fix a bad engine, but a good engine that smokes a little bit should actually smoke at least a little bit less after adding this product. My engine smokes just as much as it did before.

Oh well, it was worth a try.

IšverstiShow in original languageI bought Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5-30 + Mobil 1 oil filter right before my road trip. As I read it was known better for my Turbo Suv. I changed and fill up my tank with mobil supreme.

My 2017. 5 Mazda cx-9 grand Touring was running so smooth and accelerate fast smooth. My 10 hour road trip destinations was awesome. I had to downgrade later on to regular 87 & super due to crazy high prices My cousin which has the same car told me why my car engine less noisy and it’s smoother quicker than hers.

I told her and show her the product on my phone. ** Overall 5 star for the Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5-30 I will be using this from now on but hope price doesn’t inflation more maybe go down ☺️. Also my cousin lol 1 Star deduct is for the $15 Gift Card gas I never received from the promo I got.

IšverstiShow in original languageMy 2000 Chrysler LHS has been treated with Mobil 1 from day one, and now at 233000 miles is just as happy. In the beginning it got the regular Mobil 1, changed at 10000 miles and when extended use came out I switched to it every 15000 miles.

All the engine internals are original, no smoking, not burning oil. I have to add a quart every 5000 miles, but hey, look at the mileage. The gas mileage is just as good, average 21 MPG, not bad. I can put a glass of water on the engine while idling and no ripples.

Maintenance of course done as needed. With 60 miles a day round trip to work I look forward for many more miles, but driving in Michigan winters with all the salt on the roads the engine will outlive the body.

J’ai acheté ce produit car il me fallait de l’huile 20w50 et que seul ce produit était proposé.
