20 Best Oil For Racing Engines (2022 Updated)

Smells alot like gear oil. I had the oil evaluated after 4000 mi of city driving in Florida heat. It held up well and was extremely low in contaminants. It maintained viscosity with good additive retention.

My 125000 mi stock LS motor is smooth and impressively quiet. At $10+ per qt it aint cheep but good insurance for the hard driven daily (Suburban LTZ).

I gave 3 stars mostly for the price. I am not an oil expert, so I don’t know how good it is. I am guessing though that it can’t be much better than Mobil 1 Extended Performance full synthetic oil which I usually use and is better priced.

I got a new short block and the LS30 oil was recommended for break-in because of it’s higher ZDDP content (which is bad for catalytic converters). I will be going back to Mobil 1 after break-in.

Did my second oil change at 6,000 miles after the dealer did the first post break-in oil change. It may be me just having more time to get used to the gear throws between 5 and 6 but after changing to this I notice I’m not getting any more false neutrals.

Again this is most like just me getting more time on the bike (2020 Huksy 701 Enduro) as 5 to 6 gear has a bit longer throw resulting in a lot of the so called false neutrals. Other than that zero issues and its running great.

No clutch slipping or inconsistent engagement or anything. I’m not doing any oil analysis or anything so who knows as it’s all anecdotal. I’ll update after I finish the jug if there are any issues. Worth noting though that Husqvarna used to recommend Bel Ray Lubricants before the KTM absorption.

Every 300 to 400 miles of dual sport riding I do an oil change. I had the shop do my first service on my bike and as soon as I rode it I knew it wasn’t this oil. Turns out it was Castrol synthetic racing oil.

A very dependable brand but it has less friction inhibitors which make shifting easier. For some bikes it the right stuff. As for my Husky-KTM 350 motor and trans, the Bel-Ray not only shifts better, it runs a slight bit smoother.

Don’t forget, a missed shift can blow a motor or tear up a tranny and though it’s a pricey oil, it’s cheaper than a repair bill for a new motor or trans. -m-2017 HUSQVARNA FE 350–.

The bike shop accidentally ordered the Bel-Ray, instead of the Motul that is recomended by the manufacturer. I own A 2011 Royal Enfield Electra EFI. One of the main things Ive noticed is the reduction in mechanical noise in the engine.

Its air-cooled, and therefore the machine tolerances somewhat sloppy. Thats why the factory plastered rubber strips in the cooling fins. To meet noise specs. Now, I can run this machine worry-free.

Redline oil protected my engine after oil pressure loss leaving crankshaft journals and bearings without damage. Never use another!

I’ve been using Re Line 30 wt Race Oil in my Honda for more than a decade. It just works. Pegasus is a good source for the oil with good delivery times.

Blew engine. Engine builder says use Red Line. Did. Love it.

I have a 1956 Dodge Coronet Lancer and my mechanic highly suggested to use the Driven Racing Oil 5W30 which was not easy to find. Searched for it online and came upon Summit Racing Equipment website and they had it.

Can oil be really nice? Sure can, if its made by Joe Gibbs. You need to run proper oil for breaking in an engine. I’m sure this is great for flat tappet engines, but I haven’t built one of those in over 20 years, so no direct experience there.

Obviously the ZDDP levels in this oil should prevent any issues with flat tappet cam break in, of course, you will still need to run an additive in those engines after break in as well. The price is reasonable, the quality first rate, and you get to break in your engine right.

This oil is exactly what every young engine needs. Full of all the good stuff to help your young engine grow and flourish into the gas guzzling, skin peeling, neck breaking power plant she will grow into.

I use this for my 2-stroke Vittorazi 185cc paramotor. I mix it 32:1 always. My motor does not smoke, nor do is my prop covered in oil – ever. I just passed 75 hours on my motor and pulled the head off to check out the piston and cylinder walls.

Everything still looks like new! The piston rings are still free floating, and there is no gumming up anywhere in the motor. The decompression hole was still clean. No build up at all. No scoring by the exhaust port either.

This oil is so good I use it on all my 2-stroke lawn equipment too.

I started using Redline because it was the only fully synthetic I could find on a Sunday when most shops are closed. I did a complete rebuild on my yz 250, oiled all top and bottom end parts with it and have used nothing but it since.

So far it’s holding up to all the abuse I put it through. About 30hr of track, trails, and desert. PROS: Synthetic, available CONS: 16 Oz Seems A Bit Small.

I use this in my Kawasaki 25hp mower engine! I am a small engine mechanic and Kawasaki told me that I should run 20w-50 because of my climate, in the 3 years that I have had this motor, I tried the Kawasaki oil and another racing oil recommended by a local race shop.

I learned that added zinc would cause it to run cooler. I decided to try the valvoline vr1 racing oil and I could tell an immediate difference in the sound of the motor, I could always here the tappets with the other oils and sometimes my oil pressure light would flash, but not with the valvoline.

I could tell immediately that it was lubricating so much better, with hardly any tappet noise, and the oil light goes out ever before it starts. I’ve used valvoline in my vehicles for years and never had any problems.

So now I use the VR1 20w-50 racing oil with zinc I’m my John Deere 757 zero turn! it’s Oil!!!.

Any engine that has sliding-surface-type (cam-to-lifters) valve gear needs zinc to avoid premature wear/failure. Back in the 1900’s, most oil used to have it, but when roller-follower engines became dominant it was phased out.

(+EPA regs. ) I use it in my Studebakers, and have had no problems. This is good motor oil for classic car or severe-duty applications.

IšverstiShow in original languageI am into Radio Control aircraft and going into the bigger “gassers” that run high performance 2 cycle engines (25cc and up. mine runs a 35cc engine). Many in the hobby swear by Redline Racing oil and I decided to give it a try by running a Redline mix through my yard tools (weed-eater, blower, 2 different Stihl chainsaws.

) The difference was very apparent. I’m also running a tad lighter mix there also. Instead 50:1 using closer to 60:1 So far so good. Looking forward to going to the Redline mix for my RC plane if this test was any indication of the performance improvement I expect to see.

Expect I’ll go for the one gallon container next.

IšverstiShow in original languageI have been using this oil in two small high-performance 2-stroke engines. It is a bit pricey but totally worth it. Engine runs great. When I borescope the cylinder it is completely clean inside.

It seems like Canadian Tire doesn’t stock it regularly in my area, which is unfortunate.

IšverstiShow in original languageI was told that this is the best oil to use with 5 gal of non-ethanol gas for gas 2 stroke engines. Ethanol mixes with water and can cause engine and carburetor problems over time.

Those who recommended it say that over the years they have used this combination they have seen no problems.

This oil has the combination of viscosity with zinc that I have been looking for. Perfect for reducing camshaft material wear.

This oil is just outstanding even on a stock engine setup with exhaust it runs tougher and harder than before while keeping oil temps lower. This is the real deal for all engine types and i will choose this over the rest anyday no matter what the price tag is for royal purple.

Maintenance warranty went up so it was time for my first oil change. I chose royal purple because I’ve heard nothing but good things and I chose the XPR RACE because I’m getting ready for track days.

I’ve gone threw back roads and highways pushing the car hard to see how the temp acts and after 20-30 min of hard running there where no major jumps in temp so that’s basically all I could ask for. It is a little pricey for an oil change but if you want the good product you have to pay for it.

We usually run Royal Purple regular synthetic 5W-20. But from the advice of some of my more proficient racing friends, I tried Royal Purple XPR 5W-20. We immediately noticed that the engine ran slightly cooler, I test compartment heat with an infared tool.

The jury is still out, (more testing will ensue), but considering the cost of engine parts and repair, AND we flog this Mustang GT like a red-headed step child. You can never have enough oil protection.

The product is a great product for a highly modified older car but the price and shipping from Summit was excellent. I was surprised that their price was better than everyone else I searched and was shipped the next day.

If you are or plan to run a flat tappet camshaft Driven products are your path to survival. Driven assembly grease, this break in oil, proper initial cam break in and Driven ZDDP oil after break in are key.

I have not had a failure using the Driven products. Highly recommend.

Very good oil for older generation motors. Plenty of zinc . I’ve had no problems what so ever. It’s a excellent choice !

It’s oil. It should work, it I’m not a chemist. I will send the current oil and this oil off for a lab test after the time/mileage has elapsed. Maybe then I could comment on the oil. What I will comment on is how fast it was delivered.

In less than 24 hours!! And that was standard shipping. Either there’s a Summit Racing warehouse hidden in the woods around my neighborhood, or these guys and gals know service. I did not expect it to come in that quickly.

Didn’t even need it to come in that quickly. I know where I’m looking in the future when I need parts / supplies.

Driven DT 40 motor oil is recommended by several Porsche Specialist repair shops to help protect and prolong the life of sophisticated Porsche engines. I tried it and I like it. My Boxster S engine idles smoother, accelerates more quickly and smoothly, and sounds quieter.

I am pleased and convinced that it’s doing a better job of lubricating and protecting my engine than other brands can.

I use this oil in my 2003 Porsche Boxster S. The previous owner also used this oil. I get GREAT oil sample results when I change my oil and send off a sample. This is a great oil for German Cars.

TraduireAfficher dans la langue originaleI have a 1992 tbi 454 engine with 70k miles. I use this 1040 oil in my engine as well as my 6500 onan generator. Things are working well and runs cool especially with my 3 transmission coolers with fans that also runs through the radiator and the bottom of the ac cooler which totals 5 cooling coolers for the transmission.

I have two oil coolers with fans on the engine plus a b&m sump plus a double remote filter. All in all, my rv holds about 12 quarts of oil instead of about 7. I run the transmission line through the radiator last to take the heat stress off the radiator so it can do its job of cooling the engine here in California.

Some believe running it through the radiator last reheats the oil but that transmission oil gets very hot under load and I doubt going through the coolers will lower the temps below the 180 thermostat.

So, the top and bottom of thpe engine get proper cooling which has my engine and trans running between 150 and 180 on hot days. Will take a trip to vegas in two weeks where it is at least 100 degrees.

That will be the ultimate test.

Obviously depends on the spec of oil you need but a high detergent was what I use to keep the engine clean internally. Reduce ring wear and gumming up.

TraduireAfficher dans la langue originaleI purchased this product after I called royal purple and spoke to one of their engineers about which of their products I should use in my truck. The person I spoke to was very knowledgeable of their products and guided me to this oil for my 2003 Dodge Ram Cummins diesel.

I was a little hesitant to go to synthetic @ 200,000 miles and not to mention going from 15w-40 to 10w-40 this made sense to me after the engineer explained that the 10w had less viscosity only during cold starts and both grades had the same viscosity during operating temperature.

I have only have had this oil in for a few weeks so my review is limited as of now but what I have noticed a big difference in the cold starts with temps now in the low 30’s the truck starts like it was just shut down!!! Also the engine sounds much quieter than before with the conventional 15w-40 oil.

Also I have already seen a slight increase in fuel mileage. The oil is still clean on the stick after a few weeks of driving so the royal purple filter also seems to be doing its job let me tell you this filter is beefy compared to what I was using the metals used seem to be three times as thick I guess you get what you pay for.

So far I’m impressed. As far as the Summit experience goes this was my first purchase through them and it has been a very pleasant one and believe me I’m very critical about packing and shipping time and both exceeded my expectations very well packed and very fast shipping time.

since I have also ordered some royal purple for my second vehicle and the summit experience was great the second time as well. So I will definitely be using Summit for my parts needs in the future.
