20 Best Oil For Small Engines (2022 Updated)

The ONLY oil i use in my briggs engines. My last mower ( 22 hp briggs) ran without a problem for 16 years and burned 0 oil. Now i have a briggs 24 hp mower and only use briggs oil.

Exactly what is recommended for my Poulan snow blower. Best to use what they recommend and the synthetics are great for engine

The price is a little high but the quality is outstanding. I’ll never use anything else.

I like this oil for all my air cooled four stroke engine’s, have used Briggs Oil for years. I try to keep it on my shelf it gets hard to find some times and even the master shops will not keep it in stock at time’s and when they do OH boy the price goes out of sight.

I do not care for the cheep cut rate oil in the big box stores, or at the local parts store, all they carry is what they can make the most profit on. Who would have thunk it. I think I got this worth the money this time.

Only oil that I would use on my craftsman mower. Have used for years and no trouble so far. My mower is used almost every week year round. Mowing summer & moving snow in winter. Have several attachments which I use for yard maintainence.

Great oil for Craftsman riding mower. (4 cycle). Mowers, automobiles, boats, motorcycles, etc. , all operate differently and the engines should be utilizing the oil that was developed specifically for them.

I have used GTX for years in my MG until they reduced the zinc which is needed for the old design valve lifters. I started using GTX in my ’99 Acura RL which has almost 300k miles. It was beginning to smoke with a leading synthetic oil but the GTX eliminated the smoke and it will go 4,000 miles between oil changes without using a complete quart.

I had a smog test coming up for my ’85 bimmer (engine swapped) and needed to change the oil prior to the test. I searched around and found the Castrol 10w-40 on Amazon first. I was all set to order and then checked the shipping date.

It said it wouldn’t arrive for another month! So I thought, why not check Walmart just in case. Little did I know that they had just launched their two day shipping program and would get me the oil just in time.

I placed my order and received the oil on the expected date. Plus, I passed the smog test the next day! Can’t recommend this new two day shipping program enough.

good oil at a great price but FDX always leaves out packages at our mailbox which is 1/2 mile from the house. They leave them out in the rain and where they could be stolen. I wish WMT would use another delivery service.

I bought this because the price was very reasonable. I use it in all my 2 stroke engines. It works as it was designed to.

There is a difference use manufacture recommended oil. There is a difference, I learner the hard way.

we like this convenient packaging holding 5 qts for an oil change. Standard oil for regular older cars. No complaints good product. Name brand since it is Castrol!

This oil is amazing for keeping older 4 cycle engines alive. I’m sure it’s great in new engines also, but if you don’t want to have to keep replacing your power equipment every 3 to 5 years, just use this instead.

I use this in my 15 year old lawn tractor, and my 10 year old snowblower. By the time the wheels rust off of them and they are no longer usable, the engines will still be going strong thanks to AMSOIL.

I have been using Amsoil small engine synthetic oil for my 77 John Deere garden tractor. I’m picky about oil. I’ve had this JD 210 since May of 78. I’m the original owner and the k241 Kohler has yet to be rebuilt.

I’ve mowed a lot of lawns and plowed lots of driveways over the years. My motto is if it’s not broke why buy a new mower. I like the Amsoil 10W40 synthetic small engine blend. It provides fast starting in winter conditions.

You can tell the difference from conventional oil which has an increased start time under cold winter conditions. In the summer time it delivers the power you need to keep things running their best. If you wonder about changing your oil think about this.

From the beginning this tractor had its oil changed twice a year. It gets an oil change in spring and one just before the snow hits. I don’t know how long this K241 will last but it’s been going for 44 years now.

Changing your oil and filters is key to longevity. Amsoil delivers.

I’ve been using Amsoil products for years and have not been disappointed with their performance. My JD 318 and now Kubota Z422 use Small Engine Oil. I think this oil has permitted the JD 318 to operate without a mechanical issue, even under some hard use.

Since the Kubota is new it should last for years to come.

I have a 1999 Suzuki Carry, 660cc motor in the little fella, we use this all the time. Also use it in the log splitter, pressure washer, ATV, etc etc. No problems yet. Like that it comes in xxW-40, small engines always run hot, in the hottest of conditions.

Switched to amsoil in my ATV last year and have been quite happy with it. So I decided to give this oil a try in my John Deere X580 tractor, power washer etc. Very convenient ordering and shipping to my door.

Have not ran it long yet so can’t say too much that way, but so far no complaints. I do know in my air-cooled atv the amsoil ran noticeably cooler, and after almost a year now in all conditions the oil still looks new.

So I expect the same satisfaction with this small engine oil. It’s expensive perhaps, but my tractor takes only 2. 2l and I can get an entire year of mowing and snow blowing in all temps out of this oil.

Before I had to change it twice a year and use a different viscosity for winter. So to protect an expensive piece of equipment this is actually really good value, saves time and less oil to dispose of.

Hoping to be happy with it long term but for now I would certainly recommend this product.

I have a 20 year old Toro mulching mower that runs like new as long as I put AMS oil small engine oil in it. When I use any other oil I can feel the power loss when mowing. At the beginning of mowing season this year I did my normal tuneup.

Change the filter, plug and oil. I did not have any small engine oil but I did have AMS oil 10-40 European blend that I put in my 2002 BMW. So I filled up the mower with the 10-40 and started the mow the yard.

When I would get to thicker patches of grass the engine would slow down and almost stall. Now this mower had never done that before. I ordered a gallon of small engine oil and changed replaced the oil the next time I mowed.

The engine never slowed down even in the thicker patches of grass. I was amazed at the difference. Anyway that is my story.

I purchased 6 bottles of this oil to try it. I really don’t know how you can tell if it’s any better than any other name brand automotive oils in small air cooled engines. I’ve been using Classic Car 10W-30 oil or 10W-30 Racing oil in my 4 stroke small engines for many years that contain higher levels of zinc without any issues or problems.

These oils can’t be used in cars with a catalytic converter as the higher levels of zinc known as ZDDP will destroy the converter. I probably won’t buy this oil again due to it’s very expensive cost plus I’m not convinced bottles labeled “small engine oil” is really any different than regular automotive oil!.

This is a Very Reasonable Price Compared to other Sellers that want double the Price of about nine bucks and John Deere Does STATE it has Additives for high temperature 4 Cycle Engines. John Deere also Stated other Brands will work if they meet or exceed the Requirements.

This is Not Synthetic Oil. Standard 10w 30w with additives.

I own a John Deere x300 lawn tractor. I do all the maintenance myself. I use all John Deere products when servicing my tractor. I have now owned this tractor for 8 years and change the oil twice a season and always use JD Turf-Gard oil.

The tractor looks and runs like it is brand new. It runs smoothly and I believe the engine will last for decades if I continue to use this product. I should know the last John Deere I owned for 24 years and sold it used.

It was still purring like a kitten.

It’s great oil if you have an l100 series of any small engine lawn mower. Protects well. Perhaps a bit overpriced, but it does the job for conventional oil. Been using for years

I have been using Mobil 1 synthetic for my cars for the last 30 years. This allows me to change the oil once per year thus saving the environment (and my pocket). In the early days, Mobil used to advertise the oil as being good for 25K miles (I remember the ads stating you could drive around the world) – nowadays they have dropped those claims – I think to pad their pockets.

I lived in Germany for 3 years and bought a new BMW 3 series while I was there – I drove about 50K kilometers during that time – only towards the end did the BMW dealer recommend an oil change because of the synthetic oil that was in the engine.

In Europe they hardly ever change the oil less than 2 years unless there are a lot of miles on the car – in the US, we waste a lot of oil and damage the environment because of the marketing pressure to change the oil at less than optimum levels.

I would strongly recommend using this synthetic oil as they are the ones who started it.

Provides slightly better fuel economy than Audi’s recommended Castrol, about 1 MPG better on the highway. Never had an engine problem using it in my 1999 and newer Mercedes cars for the past 15 years.

Not a good choice for the the older classic cars that need sulfur in the oil (dino oil) to expand older engine gaskets so that they don’t leak. Bought my used 1958 Mercedes off the Mercedes-Benz dealer’s showroom floor that was covered with oil; apparently they had put this oil in that car when it was traded in; drove it home, put in conventional oil and the leaks stopped.

I feel secure driving my car when I’m using Mobil 1 full synthetic oil. I also compared the price between Costco and AutoZone. Fellows I was surprised that AutoZone price was cheaper by a few cents. Good job AutoZone.

I’m sure if there anyone out there with the same experience I had please blog it for the community to find out and take advantage of the savings and most of all is your personal time.

I may not have needed this many bottles but could not pass up the savings. It will serve me well for a long time.

Pretty good.. makes RX7 go brrrrrr. I would have gotten a bigger bottle but they weren’t in stock and it’s kinda pricey for the size. Not the best tasting 2 stroke oil but it does the job very nice.

Excellent motor oil. Twenty ounces is a lot of Super Tech Conventional SAE 10W-30 lawn mower oil. Have a mower fleet? Great! One yard

Bought 3 so I was ready for a new lawn mower. I’m ready for a first oil change and one more. This size container is about what’s needed for a lawn mower. It was better priced than other oil.

Perfect size to fit in the lawn mower. No need to check. Plus no chance of overfilling

I like the fact it was available. Our new 2018 Toyota Camry requires this oil and after doing some research, I decided not to substitute 0W20, which was readily available in the stores. Autozone didn’t have 0W-16 either.

So I ordered it from Walmart on-line, it was readily available and at a great price, even with shipping; hardly worth driving around looking for it. It came by FedEx in 2 days.

Great synthetic oil, for maximum fuel economy and protection. Always used Pennzoil ultra platinum but Pennzoil doesn’t sell 0W-16 right now due to the 0W-16 being new to the market, so I had to use Mobile 1 brand.

This oil is recommended by toyota for use on applicable engines so we’ll see how well it holds up compared to Pennzoil.

The 0W16 oil has a strange setting. I’m used to 5W30. However, that is what Toyota required and I received it from Walmart in 2 days, and at our lake house. Impressive. I bought 2 gallons, one for use later to save on the shipping.

It was significantly cheaper than at local auto parts stores.
