20 Best Oils For Curly Hair (2022 Updated)

To start, my hair is wavy-to-curly, fine textured, past-shoulder-length, and not color treated. Sometimes I straighten it and sometimes I wear it curly. I have used Kérastase products before, specifically Oléo-Relax Advanced Hair Oil for Frizzy Hair, and I liked the quality and long-lasting effects.

Since I stopped dyeing and heat-styling my hair, I have been looking for products that will nourish my hair and keep the strands intact. I also prefer styling products to add a bit of weight, since my hair is fine and prone to fly-aways.

This oil is more lightweight than I was expecting. The product indicates that you can use it at almost any point in your hair care process, so it’s hard to know which way you should use it to achieve optimal results.

Since argan oil provides a smoother, more weighted effect on my curly hair, I prefer to use this oil for scalp treatment instead.

Such a miracle in a bottle! It adds shine to my hair – wet or dry. Very versatile, I use it in different styling scenarios. Kills frizz, makes my waves wavier and heavier. Hair looks much healthier with it and feels much silkier! I use it together with the conditioner from the same series.

I don’t have curly hair at all, but this stuff is amazing. My hair stylist used this on me and I loved it so I had to buy it. I normally would use the diamond oil but it seems like Redken changed the formula and its not as thick anymore.

This product is amazing!! My daughter and I both use this product, and I have fine hair, and it doesn’t weigh my hair down at all. I don’t have to use much, and it makes my hair soft and silky. My daughter has long frizzy hair, and she uses quite a bit more than I do, and she says it makes her hair soft and smooth, and tames the frizz.

It smells wonderful too. It makes my hair shiny. Don’t hesitate to buy this!.

I should start by saying that I have fine hair with a very loose, wavy curl pattern. Despite that, my hair is extremely dry and in constant need of hydration. This oil is a super-hydrating oil, which I need; however, if I spray this on my ends wet or dry hair as directed and then style, I often have “oily” patches or hair that is weighed down and limp.

What I have started doing is using it as a pre-wash conditioning treatment, and oh my goodness it has made all the difference! I spray in 5-6 spritzes all over my hair (shoulder length) and work through with my fingers.

(It’s pretty oily and saturated at this point. ) I give myself a quick scalp massage and then comb everything through one more time. Sometimes I wrap my hair in a warm towel but sometimes I don’t. but I do wait 20 minutes to let my hair drink in the oil.

Then it’s into the shower to wash my hair and condition it, as usual. Before drying my hair, whether I let it do it’s sort-of-curly-but-not-like-it-used-to-be thing (hello aging. ) or blow it dry straight, I add just one spritz of oil to my palm and work it gently through the ends and only the ends.

Apply styling products as usual and style. My hair is crazy soft. My ends are not dry and frazzled. And most importantly, it’s not weighed down or oily at all! This whole process takes about an hour, including the pre-shower treatment, so it’s not something I do every time I wash my hair (which is only twice a week as it is).

I do this once a week in the winter (usually my Monday morning wash) and once every other week in the warmer months. As for cost, yes, it is a higher price point product, but I’ve had the same bottle for almost a year and I am finally to the point where I need to re-order.

I think that’s a pretty good deal if you amortize the cost over 12 months (yes, I am an accountant).

I tried it tonight for the first time. I have fine curly hair lots of it. I put 3 sprays into my palm rubbed them together then put it on the ends which are really dry. At first it did nothing in fact I was upset and wanted to wash it out.

Then my toddler woke up from his nap. I forgot about it for about 20 minutes. Then something magical happened lol. My curls were shiny bouncy and more defined. I guess it needs to sit and penetrate into the hair.

I’m glad I waited and didn’t wash it out. It’s really good!.

Great stuff! It’s light and it doesn’t weigh down or make my hair greasy. So handy for a dry refresh. I bought it to use for scrunching the crunch but I find it’s better waiting until day two for me; I have big clumps and sometimes the insides might not be totally dry – so on day one some looked a little oily, but by day two it’s all absorbed in.

Mine is fine, pretty curly with some tight ringlets. I can use 8 drops to my full head (reaches the small of my back when wet), that amount might be 3 or 4 then each day to refresh.

I know my hair needs some oil for it to be shiny and retain some moisture throughout the day. But it’s been trial and error over the years finding the right type of oil that won’t weigh my hair down.

This oil is SO light yet also VERY effective. I don’t use it all the time, only on wash days after I use the curl cream I do one or two vials of the oil and it’s been great for my hair. My hair is typically on the dryer side and it works well for my type of curl.

Man what can I say? This oil is super light weight, adds shine, smells incredible, redefines my curls and calms down my frizz! I’ve used a couple other oils but they’ve all been too heavy for my hair and not moisturizing like this one is.

Highly recommend! A little goes a long way.

This is a really nice hair oil, especially considering it’s silicone-free. It does have a strong fragrance that is very artificially sweet, which I’m not crazy about, but the results are worth it. I apply this on wet hair, about 2-3 pumps since I have very long hair, and it makes my hair so silky and my curls look really nice and significantly reduces frizz.

I got an example, like maybe a year ago never used it into one day I was desperate. I didn’t have hair oil because I had run out. So I try the example and I love it. It tame my dry ,fry damage hair make it look like I had a deep conditioning treatment.

I bought it again for a second time I love it I recommend it anybody with dry hair and damage this is for you.

This oil is perfect for my curls. It really helps to control the frizz and gives a shiny look to my hair. It is suitable for straight, wavy, curly and coily hair. I highly recommend this oil to anyone if you have frizzy hair.

2c-3a/b hair. I saw good reviews, and was running low on moroccanoil light for my hair. I figured I’d try this. Let’s start with the smell-not at all as expected and anticipated based on reviews and description.

It’s got a faint citrus scent, but overall smells musty and stale, and the smell doesn’t sit well with me. It doesn’t smell sweet to me at all-even the orange scent smells old and rancid. Maybe bottle I received is rancid-who knows! I really cannot stand the scent, and misted perfume to cover the smell of it on my hair.

The viscosity of the oil is fine-it’s not super thick and not too watery. I had purchased this for SOTC only. I keep thinking maybe I’ll change my mind about this, but I haven’t and the experience of using it sucks.

Over and over again. I won’t bother to drive to my local store to return it, so I use copious amounts of it now as a pre-poo, cover with a disposable cap, and then wash it all out 🙂 I don’t like throwing money down the drain, figuratively or literally, so I’m at least gonna get through the bottle via the pre-pop method.

I cannot recommend this product. I will not be purchasing this again. Ever.

This oil is a lot heavier than I was expecting. A tiny amount goes a long way. I got it to scrunch out the crunch on my medium thick, high density 2c waves. Tbh every time I use it I feel it’s a little on the heavy side for my hair, so I’m extremely careful to disperse on my hands first and then just to skim it over my strands and scrunch on my ends very lightly.

It smells amazing – if you love citrus like I do – but the scent doesn’t linger too long and the shine it creates is next level. I’d recommend but only to someone who doesn’t have super fine hair.

I cant believe how well this works! I have mid back length, colored, 3B/C hair that is EXTREMELY frizzy with normal porosity. I rarely wear my hair curly, so my styling products are extremely important for me to achieve the smooth look I desire.

I abuse my hair; I flat iron and heat style daily, and because it’s so curly, my hair is naturally dull looking and the ends always appear fried. Oils are an important part of my styling routine to add moisture, cut the frizz and impart some shine.

One day I absolutely soaked my hair in this oil, from mid lengths to ends, putting a drop on my fingers and pulling it through section by section. and OMG! It looked a little greasy for a few minutes, but my hair just soaked it up, leaving me a shine and smoothness I can’t remember since getting Brazilian Blowout or other keratin smoothing treatments.

It didn’t weigh my hair down at all! I was just left with flowing loose waves (the desired look) and the drier ends seem to just fuse together. It takes so little product, only a few drops for all my long, thick curly hair.

I had been struggling to find an oil that would work. Most would seem effective for a few hours, then my hair would frizz and puff up again so that is what I had come to expect. Yet this lasted a few days until the next shampoo.

I cocktail so many products in an effort to achieve the look I want and no one product ever made as much of a difference. I have a virtual beauty supply for a bathroom, yet I can honestly say this is a standout! And I love that it’s only made with natural source oils and none of the yucky stuff.

So sad the product made my hair straight took out my curl my hair look like I relaxed my hair very disappointed

This oil is now my go-to “base” hair treatment. Before I use any other product on wash days, I use about 6 sprays of this oil, massaging into my scalp and working through the length of my hair all the way to the ends.

I have mid-back length fine, dense 3-A curls that are prone to frizz, and dry on the ends so I add more oil on the ends. The amazing thing is this oil is lightweight but it actually works! It soaks in very quickly and doesn’t leave a residue – it feels like it penetrates the hair vs sitting on top of the cuticle.

I’ve noticed a positive change in my scalp health since starting to use this oil on my scalp and not just my hair. Think of this oil as a hair serum, it’s the base of your product routine. After the oil I use whatever other styling products in my routine and these days I just air dry.

I also massage any remaining oil on my palms into my hands and cuticles, it literally absorbs in 2 seconds and hydrates my cuticles and nails. So far I’ve never felt like I applied too much oil – it is never greasy or heavy.

If this oil came in a 50 gallon barrel I would hop into the barrel and submerge my entire body to get every inch of my body covered in the goodness.

I use this on relaxed hair. After I shampoo my hair and rinse, I spray some of the oil onto my hair. Then I immediately add my hair mask. After sitting for about 20 minutes with the hair mask, I rinse my hair and proceed with my routine for drying my hair.

It’s great for edges…for that, I spray a little onto the back of my hand and then apply to my edges.

This oil smells so good! It has a light scent that isn’t overpowering. It worked really well to remove the cast from the gel I used. It made my hair so soft without weighing it down. My curls were still bouncy and had a lot of shine.

I also like that it’s in a spray bottle because I was able to get better distribution throughout my hair. A little goes a long way which is also good for my wallet.

I bought a bunch of stuff at Ulta and I got some trial sizes free, this was one of the free trials. Unless you have thick curly hair I recommend using this. Sparingly. I have tried some Alternatives which I happen to like better.

But if I’m blow drying or straightening my hair. This is imperative.

I try them once I think it feels super good, it nourishes my hair and makes it shiny, like it.

Have used Moroccanoil and olaplex oils in the past and just wanted to try something new. This oil is divine. Feels a little thicker In viscosity than other brands but is so seamlessly absorbed in the hair and I havent noticed any colour changes with my bleach hair.

I love this stuff I cant stop applying.

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST OIL FOR YOUR HAIR!!!!!! Cannot rave about this enough, I have curly hair that sometimes gets a bit dry and this oil on wet or dry hair not only smells GREAT but what it does for my hair is just amazing.

I recommend everyone to try this it has made a huge difference to my hair the shine has come back and my curls are bouncy and not longer dry. Best money you will ever spend on your hair !!!.

please read ALL this. first off, i rarely do reviews. and i am usually the person who will buy expensive salon or high quality products. lately any and all salon shampoo/conditioners, treatments/oils dont wow me anymore.

make my hair fall out more and they dont make my hair feel or look good at all. and trust me. i have tried every brand you can possibly think of from ulta. no lie. i have wasted 1000s of dollars on haircare!!! with this inflation crisis too everything is so pricey.

well, i needed to get more shampoo, conditioner and an oil. i only had 20$ so i went to walmart and grabbed this, garnier fructis sleek and shine shampoo and conditioner with the leave in cream. so 4 things for LESS than $20?! sold.

i am usually spending $20 on just one product from ulta. (i have straight long hair to my waist, but very baby fine) this oil shocked me to my core on how good it was!! i have bought probably over 50 oils/brands and i will say this in all honesty just stop buying salon quality right now and go buy you some garnier!!! im serious.

my hair has never felt this good in years. YEARS! I cannot stop touching it. i get so so many compliments now everywhere i go and people are shocked to hear im using garnier. i have seen drastically less hair fall and my hair is growing and not breaking! i have used garnier in the past, but with so many brands coming out i totally forgot about it.

i am now a die hard fan. now i know why garnier has been around since 1904!! they are obviously doing something right. go get you this oil i promise you wont regret it. the smell is amazing and it detangles hair like butter.

(if you dont like the sleek and shine, i really recommend their whole blends ginger line, esspecially during these fall months) how i use it: on wet hair after a leave in cream apply dime sized, rub hands together and then apply from ears down and then the left over thats on my hands put lightly on top of hair for fly aways.

for dry hair or before shower: i will put a dime to quarter size in hands, rub hands together and lightly coat from ends up then braid hair and leave it alone.

I received the Garnier fructis: Curl Multi-Use oil as part of the Garnier Curl campaign. I love this oil and it’s for all curl types. The oil is also sulfate-free and cruelty-free along with the cleansing conditioner that it came with.

The Curl Multi-Use oil contains ingredients like vitamin e and coconut oil. This hydrating oil has become one of my favorite hair products. I like how you can use it on wet or dry hair. As well as being able to use it differently.

Either as a scalp treatment, nourishing oil, and or deep treatment. However, I mostly used it as a scalp treatment on wet hair which I think helped hydrate my hair better. The oil has a nice scent to it like any other oil, it’s not strong.

I have no complaints about the oil just wish the bottle was a bit bigger. Side note, the oil does make hair look a bit oily and shiny but I actually liked that but maybe some people might not.

If you have curly hair, then you KNOW how important oils are! I wanted to love this product I really did because the smell is amazing, and the texture in your hand feels really good, AND it has vitamin E in it, but it was just not everything it should have been.

Let’s start off with the fact that it’s super runny and basically got all over my sink, all I did was open the bottle and before I could even squeeze it into my hand it was pouring out, annoying but i washed my hands and tried again.

I moved past that, thinking, “Hey, at least it isn’t a heavy oil” wrong! My hair before I put this in was great and so soft. I put this oil in my hair and it because very greasy and even sticky! I had planned on blowdrying my hair but decided not to because I didn’t want to get this oil on even more things! All in all, not something I would repurchase.

I am a 41 year old professional, who doesn’t always have time to dry/straighten my naturally curly red locks. Found this gem on my last visit to Ulta, and it has been perfect for me. The smell is fantastic, very easy to use, and makes my hair feel great.

I towel dry, then spray it on my hands and scrunch it thru my natural waves. I get compliments every time I keep my hair in its “natural” state of mind. Great product, will for sure get it again.

Spray it into my palms after washing my hair (1-2″ short, thick, good body). Run it over the ends and pinch it into the very tips. Arrange hair with fingers. Dry naturally, which takes a couple of hours due to thickness.
