20 Best Otoscope For Medical Students (2022 Updated)

I am so disappointed in the appearance of the bell. I ordered the matte black however the engraving with the product name, rather than appearing as silver and evenly coloured as illustrated, shows as bronze, really destroying the appearance.

The engraving requested is uneven in colouring and also shows bronze in varying shades. I highly recommend not wasting money on appearance. For $40 more I got a stethoscope that looks worse than just the plain silver would have.

Between the product name and the requested engraving – mostly the product name – the bell looks as if someone has scratched the bell up carelessly. I wanted to treat myself to something professional looking, different from others.

Instead I paid extra for a stethoscope that appears to have been chewed upon by a sharp toothed animal.

Feels different than my authentically purchased Classic III directly from Littman’s website. This eBay turquoise one is working good, and it is a beautiful color, and Littman may have updated their materials since the one I bought from Littman 4 years ago, but this eBay plastic tubing just feels lighter & bends around much easier, rubberband like almost.

Its not the stiffer, thicker tubing like my old authentically purchased stethoscope from Littman. It just makes me question if this eBay one is authentic, or if Littman has just changed their materials in recent years? Anyhow, this is a beautiful turquoise piece & I intend on keeping my new one, since my authentic Littman has lost its diaphragm glue seal.

The box & everything appears real, it just feels overall less sturdy is all. Should be fine =).

The Littman Cardiology IV stethoscope as a listening device is excellent. The fact that by changing the pressure on the diaphragm you can filter out some noises and thus you can listen to other frequencies is very nice.

The sound is loud, clear and crisp, but. and a big one at it. Be prepared to deal with the plague of the sticky binaural tubing. The flexible plastic compound degrades and becomes sticky, and it get to the point of feeling sticky wet.

I did send mine to Littmann/3M Service under warranty, and when I got it back, the new binaural tubing, was sticky too, not as much as the one it had before, but enough to pick up lint from my clothes, dust from surfaces and who know what else.

I then went on-line and found plenty of complaints in Nurses and Doctor Forums about Littmann stethoscopes. I called Littmann again, and I was negatively surprised when I was told to use cornstarch (Talcum Powder) to prevent the stickiness.

Cornstarch enhances the growth of bacteria. When you purchase an instrument in this price range, you do not want to be thinking about having to clean the tubing just so it does not look disgusting. I want to clean it to be sterile.

I did not find negative reviews about sticky tubing on competitor’s products.

I’m starting a nursing program and decided to buy this over the more expensive, well-known brand. I’ve compared this to my friend’s stethoscope by said brand, and the quality is on par with it at a fraction of the price.

It also looks MUCH better than theirs (the rose gold is so pretty), I’m sure both students and instructors will be jealous of it. Also, free parts for life? This will probably be the best purchase of my college career.

I’m so glad I found this brand before purchasing a stethoscope! I’ve recommended other students to buy this brand, not just for looks, but for cost and functionality.

I wear a few hats. I’m in my last year of nursing school, with plans of working on a cardiovascular thoracic unit. I’m also a tech on a CVT unit, and I am a Army medic with the National Guard. I have used the popular guys in the Army for some years now, but when I started school, I decided to make a switch to the MDF One.

The difference in sound quality alone was enough to sell me on this stethoscope, but to add the durability and quality just sealed the deal for me. I have replaced the popular guys stethoscope in my military kit, with the MDF One, and do not plan on going back.

This thing has been flung on the ground in mass casualty situations, then dusted off and used in the CVT unit the next day, and never missed a beat. Thoracic assessments are so clear that when we are at clinicals, often times I’ll let my instructors use it so they can hear sounds not picked up by the other guys.

When I finish school, I’ll definitely be getting one of their cardiology stethoscopes. Great product!.

I have had my stethoscope for about 2 1/2 years now. I love it. I had two stolen at the hospital where I worked at the the time, so I bought the MDF at a scrub sale at my hospital. I am so happy with this stethoscope.

I have worked med-surg, oncology, hospice, LTACH, and LTC facilities. I also just graduated RN school this past week from doing my LPN to RN and during this past year I have been in CVICU and other critical units and this stethoscope has proven itself to be a wonderful investment! I could hear poor hearts perfectly with this little thing.

I even had a doctor to borrow it and compliment it. Thank you MDF for making such affordable and durable products. I plan on buying another one once I get a job after I test. The lifetime replacement parts/warranty is such a wonderful thing.

I bought this stethoscope for probably the worst possible reason: I wanted something cheap to use in clinics in place of my Cardiology III so that classmates could steal my stethoscope without causing me too much heartache.

I was really blown away by how well this thing works. I knew that I wanted a Sprague Rappaport style stethoscope because modern students don’t much envy them, but I chose this brand because of the percentage of reviews that place its quality above other more well-known brands.

I bought the blackout version of this stethoscope solely for aesthetics. I knew that it would get a lot of one-on-one time with me during large animal rotations when stethoscopes get crushed or laid down quite often, but I haven’t stopped using it.

It handled the rigor and the beating that was equine rotation without so much as a scratch. I haven’t gone back to the Cardiology III since buying this stethoscope, and I have no plans to do so. It wasn’t until I realized my love for this piece of equipment that I realized how debilitating it was to have had a diagnostic tool that cost so much that I was afraid to use it.

With the MDF Sprague Rappaport, I’m free to focus on more important things.

Just got my stethoscope brand new in the box used it and was really satisfied with my product the tubing is thick unlike other tubing out there. And no plastic to be found besides the name tag to write your name.

Overall the stethoscope is light weight besides the bell which helps in picking up sounds that I couldn’t hear with my other cheap stethoscope that I bought. By the way it only includes one bell that’s interchangeable to your needs.

I had originally thought it came with three other bells but it’s just one. I really have no complaints and the shipping was fast I got mine within 3 days. I have to give this a 5 star rating for my satisfaction.

Also the color which is all black looks freaking cool. It suits anyone in my opinion.

Bought this stethoscope to replace a Littmann Cardiac II that got lost. Would not buy again. Price and availability of different sized chestpieces are a plus. Sound quality is better than a disposable stethoscope, but one star off for being significantly inferior to the more expensive Littmann model.

Another star off for eartubes that rotate freely and easily slide out of alignment while you’re using the stethoscope. You may need to turn your head at just the right angle to hear clearly. Also, the chestpiece is very heavy compared to the eartubes — draped around my neck, this stethoscope is always sliding off by the chestpiece.

My 3 yr old daughter had chronic ear infections and recently got tubes. After getting an ear infection after the tubes, with no discharge, the doctor noted her tube was blocked with ear wax. We thought we were applying the ear drops properly for the week, but after a few weeks, she was exhibiting symptoms of another ear infection.

Enough is enough, dr. Dad stepped in and got this otoscope. I was able to verify, quite clearly, her tube was still blocked. After 2 days of drop treatment (head angled and allowed to soak), I can confirm the tube is clear.

I can’t believe I’m able to monitor this without the doctor, life with internet is amazing. Totally happy with this product! Note: grab the back side of the ear and pull to help align the ear canal, it’ll make the task so much easier.

LOVE IT! This thing works wonderfully well. I am a nurse and I can honestly say I see as well with it as I do the professional models we have available at the office where I work. This is such a useful item to have at home.

I no longer have to have my husband run my kids to work so I can use the office’s otoscope to monitor their ears. If you have children you will not regret having one of these at home especially for this price.

Very easy to use and having the 3 different tips are helpful for adult and kid sized ears. The light is a soft yellow and could be a bit brighter to help see the ear drum easier, but it’s sufficient for usual use.

I was concerned about the light. This one is very close to daylight. Very good visibility. Could’ve been a little bit wider, but they have the other model, more expensive, bigger, better. I need this one for family checkups before going to pediatrician.

It’s not used for professional purposes, and just for looking at eardrum and canal it is perfect. It comes with three size speculas – baby, kid, adult. Every family should have one.

This handy device lets you see clearly all the way to the eardrum. It is lighted and has a couple of adaptors to accommodate different sized ear canals. In my case I was scheduled for an audiology test and I found it was useful to make sure my ear canal was clean prior to the test.

It wasn’t. My wife used ear cleaning drops with a warm to hot water flush. A post inspection revealed all was clear. I love this inexpensive tool. I highly recommend it!.

This item is exactly what I expected. It is a good value and works well; the reason I had to purchase a 2nd one (and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5) is that the head of my first one cracked and small pieces broke off so that it would no longer hold the specula.

It had never been dropped or misused, the plastic head it just a bit thin. I will be careful with the current one so I hope that it does not happen again. But other than that, this is a good purchase for home use.

This is my second Riester. I dropped my first one at least ten times and it still worked. I needed another otoscope so I purchased the same one. This is the best price I found on this otoscope.

I’m an ICU nurse and I was beyond excited to try this brand out! The first day I received it i tried it out on one of my intubated patients who had some extra thickness to their chest and quickly became disappointed.

I could barely hear my patients lung sounds, let alone the slight wheeze they developed later in the morning. My guess is because the bell is super light so it doesn’t block out enough extra noise. Overall, awesome and fun color; on an average sized person not bad but on someone with more adipose tissue not good enough.

On balance it didn’t cost a great deal and its light weight. Unlike the toy-like light weight seths you can buy for a few pounds I find the diaphragm works well enough for listening to lungs and picking up additional sounds.

I can hear bowel sounds and I can auscultate a blood pressure with it too. The bell I havent really had any success with yet as it seems quiet or rather the backgorund is too noisy to be able to use it.

I purchased it to listen to the “tick-tock” of my antique clocks to synchronize the pendelum. Serves the purpose perfectly. Good product, well made. Would recommed.

I bought this for my 5 year-old grandson to dress up as a doctor and he loves it. I expected to receive a flimsy stethoscope that would not last long, but I was surprised that it looks very professional like one that would be used on the job.

The stethoscope is well put together. It is something you can hear lung sounds with. Not cardiac quality but useful tool.

It wouldnt work it wouldnt stay inflated and it was terrible needed it to practice with so I can take my cna skill test but wasnt able to had to return.

Sounds great, really good quality for the price. Overall im happy with the purchase. Only complaint i can make is that the stethoscope is not burgundy it is really light almost a pinkish tone to it.

It has signs of used but works perfectly. It didn’t come with the electrical cable but I had no problem to find one. I’m very satisfied with this product and its cost.

Seems to be working fine. Replacing prior head that stopped working.

10SI case was perfect for my application (6. 2L Diesel in a suburban) as I didn’t have to modify mountings. Holds her voltage at lower RPM where my last unit would loose it. Only concern (but I can live with) is that I use a tachometer receiver mounted to the alternator which fluctuates like crazy at idle (looking for a stable output I guess), but kick the RPM’s up a couple hundred that she accurately reads like a charm.

I like the fact that this unit has a 2nd circulation fan in the rear. Beefed up wiring inside, and just plain looks to be built much better than my other replacements. Powering stereo w/2 amps, front/rear a/c fans, power windows/locks and normal stuff.

Price was great considering what the stores wanted for a lesser model.

I have not had a single issue with Smartbuy disks. I have used far more expensive name brand disks and very bad results. Buy and use with complete confidence. I have purchased over 200 of these disks and will continue to do so.

to print on disk due to thickness you have to have a special printer that allows the entire disk to pass through the rollers.

Our church records our services on DVD so we can duplicate and give them to shut ins and others who want them. Since we don’t charge for this, we want to get something that is a good value as well as a good product.

These work perfectly for us. We only have about 1 or 2 of them out of a hundred that don’t dupe and that is the best we’ve ever used. We used to use Memorex or Maxell blanks and they weren’t nearly as good as these are.

I highly recommend them.

I still have my ophthalmoscope/otoscope from vet school. (1980 grad).. the ophrhamascope Head was damaged & I needed a new one. Googled the product & found you. Fits & works perfect.

Great view of the optic discs and fundal vessels. Able to examine nail folds very close up on maximal magnification. Very portable size and easy to use.

The item arrived quickly (2 days) to my SoCal office without obvious damage or defect. The ophthalmoscope head was tested immediately out of the box and was found to be in working order. There have been no issues after 2 weeks of regular use.

I received the Procardial C3 as a graduation gift from nursing school and want to share something with you about this scope. As always, whenever I learned a new skill in school, or got a new instrument, I would try it out on my family members first.

My college aged son came home for the summer, and I was able to include him in my experiments with my new Procardial. To my surprise, I detected a heart murmur that I had never heard in him before. And neither had any of his physicians throughout his life.

This prompted us to have him checked out by a cardiologist who determined that our son has a congenital heart defect. Although it is non-pathological at this time, we are aware of it, and can keep an eye on it in case he has trouble later on.

I would recommend the Procardial C3 to anyone. I am convinced that it is the best scope on the market. Thank you for a superior product!.

I’d suffered some degree of bilateral hearing loss after having my eardrums rupture during a motor vehicle accident years ago. My Litmann was becoming more and more difficult to use, as it sounded muffled all the time (not necessarily the scope, but my hearing abilities).

I was told that the MDF Cardiology scopes were very clear, and sensitive enough to pick up the smallest of sounds. I bought one and the difference is night and day. Imagine listening to a symphony whilst wearing earmuffs, then removing them halfway through–THAT much of a difference! I can only imagine how much clearer it will be after procuring hearing aids.

Sweet spot in terms features vs price. This set comes with a coaxial ophthalmoscope. Lets face it, unless youre an ophthalmologist, you dont need the fancy panoptic version cuz you have no idea what youre looking at! The macro view otoscope is great for a full view of the tympanic membranes.

You could instead pick the set with the newer Li ion handle but youll pay more for it!.

IMO this is the best set to for portability and quality. I’ve wanted to get this for myself for some time, and now that I am doing contract work… I decided the time was right and I am glad I did.

If you can find a diagnostic set with the pan-opthalmascope, get it. Much larger field of view. Welch Allyn makes the best diagnostic sets. I’m glad I got such a good deal on mine, but would still be worth it at full price!!!.
