20 Best Outdoor Air Quality Monitor (2022 Updated)

I’ve had this for almost a month now and I waited to write a review. It has been so helpful in helping me determine my PM 2. 5, PM 1, and relative VOC. Specifically, it’s given me an actual measurement of how well my air purifier is cleaning the air of PM and VOC.

It’s satisfying to see my numbers go down. I sprayed Windex (ammonia) on the glass table it was sitting on, and my VOC shot up to to red really fast. The air purifier brought VOC down to green levels.

(Interestingly, only HEPA 13, which is a medical grade HEPA filter takes care of PM 1, but according to the numbers on my View Plus, the Blueair Purifier lowered my PM1 to zero even though it’s not HEPA 13.

Good to know that the Blueair Hepasilent technology works and validates my air purifier purchase). The other thing I tested was lighting three votive candles. After blowing them out, my Blue Air automatically went to moderate, then high, then moderate, to low, and amazingly, it corresponded to my View Plus green, yellow, red levels!! The Airthings View Plus has also helped me determine where my random nightly VOC is coming from.

I experimented with leaving certain windows open and closed. The View Plus is a huge plus in improving my air quality.

Small but so useful, when I got it it said replace batteries right away on the screen but found out the batteries got loose from shipping, popped them in and it works fine. It’s been 3 days since I’m using but already I noticed my air quality isn’t the best.

I also noticed that my furnace plays a roll since the bad air quality increases with the times when my furnace was on so I need to get that checked, opening the windows also showed improvement in my air CO2, pretty cool stuff.

I do find it a little pricey but so far I feel like I’m getting what I paid for. It connects via Bluetooth to my iPad and to my router via wifi without a problem, I keep checking periodically and it keeps track of the air quality over time on a graph, it’s pretty neat.

Overall, I recommend this product.

The app is super easy to navigate and gives you useful information to improve the air quality in your home. Setting it up and pairing it through the Airthings app is very simple and it takes just a couple of minutes.

My wife and I are very impressed with its features, in addition to radon, it monitors PM2. 5 particles, CO2, VOCs, humidity, and temperature. The device works really well and has given my family peace of mind.

The monitor is very simple and quick to set up, it took me less than five minutes to download the app and complete the process. The app experience is fantastic, and the dashboard shows trends by minute as well as long-term averages; it also provides tons of easy-to-use information and insights on how to improve air quality.

It’s been a few weeks and I am loving it! I will probably buy another one for my daughter’s bedroom.

I recently had an Air Purification system installed that cover 2500 sq feet and want to make sure it was keeping the air clean in my entire house, just like it did when the Salesman demonstrated. So I Googled the type of particle counter he used.

This item can be very pricey; the price ranges anywhere from the mid $200s to $400. I Googled to see here I could get the best deal. That’s when I ran across the Sylvan Web Site. I purchased a Dylos Laser Particle Counter (DC1100) and it arrived timely.

It’s not bulky and it’s user friendly. I’m very pleased with the quality of this machine and I’m glad I chose to purchase my particle cleaner from Sylvan. I posted a picture of the Particle Counter. The data showing is sort of higher than normal, because I had just opened my front door to get my mail.

Normally the 1st number is 5 or below and the 2nd number is between 0-3. Those are really good numbers, because according to the salesman, you want the large particles to be under 25 and the small particles no higher than 5.

I feel very confident the machine is very accurate. Oh and by the way, I love their quote “Better Air Begins With Knowledge”, because that is a very true statement. #sweepstakes.

For anyone buying expensive air cleaning machines and changing filters monthly or early, how do you know when to change them? I mean really know, not just do it when the machine guesstimates. I am using 4 IQ Air systems and the dust filter is $60 while HEPA is $200, each, per machine.

In this context, the machine is a no brainer. If the numbers are low, your filters are fine! I just bought a Dylos Pro 1100 for every room! I tested the non Pro and the numbers were similar so that should be the model for most, Pro just gives me more peace of mind, as future proofing.

Now I can really tell when the air is clean not just assume it. For anyone running a low quality air cleaner, this is how you know it doesn’t work well or not at all. IQ Air machines are hospital grade and now I know that their filters clean much much longer than advertised time.

Dylos is a money saver while allowing me to actually see the quality of air. My apartment is now in the 300 and under zone while outside air is generally 600 at night and well over 7000 during the day.

I ordered the DC1100-PRO, to determine what was infiltrating my home from my new A/C system. I have had many duct problems and several repairs. I get a dose of allergens from my A/C heat pump system when the unit is running.

I was hoping the Dylos unit would help me identify the source. I have spent thousands, including two new roof top Heat pump package installs. And major duct revamping, and sealing. This all started with replacing my old unit, which I had had for 20 years with no product coming into the house.

The Dylos was very accurate on helping me determine the efficiency of my (4)HEPA filters, one being an IQ air Pro which showed 0 particulates. The Dylos also showed what was coming out of my supply ducts.

It does pick up many things, such as cooking particulates; steam from boiling water will trigger a large spike in particulates. And will fool you into thinking you have bigger problems. I have to do breathing treatments with a compressor and nebulizer.

I was getting very large spikes in the readings up to 10,000 or more and couldn’t figure out what was casing it. This unit has a scale on it and anything over 3000 is very poor air quality. So I thought I was getting major releases of product and junk into my home.

I wrote the Mfr. Dylos two emails explaining and asking for help, they did not answer, that’s why only 3 stars. On the other hand Air Purifiers America, where I bought the unit through, has been outstanding in communication and helped me.

I soon figured out that every time I did a breathing treatment it sent the numbers skyrocketing. It was picking up the vapor particles of the treatment. This turned out to be the reason for many times the unit would show 6,000 and above, and I could not figure out why.

So in recap; it does work but picks up a lot of stuff like cooking, vapor, mist. That will give you a feeling you have problems when you don’t. The bottom line is the unit does what its says it will, and I would recommend and have enjoyed using it.

Under my normal home environment it keeps a running monitored total of my indoor air particulates either continuous or sampled each hour.

The Wave Mini measures your air’s temperature, humidity, VOCs, and mold risk rating. It’s easy to set up with your phone, looks nice, is small, has good customer support, and has a long-lasting battery charge (3 years with the replaceable batteries included).

I check the sensor every day, and I’ve found that it is accurate and easy to understand. When I paint miniatures in my room and am using PVC glue, the volatile compounds in the air fill the room and the sensor’s VOC count shoots up.

Even with my air purifier running, the sensor can still detect it. It also helped me realize that I needed to turn off my humidifier because my humidity was too high. Note that it does not measure actual mold in the air.

I bought it for this reason and was surprised and disappointed that it does not detect mold. Instead, it uses a mathematical formula based on your temperature and humidity and gives a number between 0 and 10 that states the overall ‘risk’ of that particular room for generating mold.

In my opinion this is worthless considering your nose can do the same thing by sniffing the air. So if you’re buying this for mold concerns, it’s kind of a waste unless you have smelling problems. But it doesn’t hurt to have the mold risk quantified in each room of your house as an added bonus.

Same goes for the pollen detector, which is supplied by a third party. In my region it never shows any data at the moment because there’s apparently no pollen in the air right now. So it seems somewhat moot.

I contacted their tech support about my frustration with the mold issue and they were empathetic and understanding. I searched for a mold detector, and from what I can tell there is no simple airborne detector on the market.

Only quick tests to see if what you’re sampling is in fact mold, or advanced tests that can be sent to labs for diagnosis. So that’s not really the fault of Airthings, it’s more the fault of how the product is hyped up by other people describing the mold rating in their reviews.

It doesn’t detect mold! Be aware of that. All-in-all the Airthings Wave Mini is an effective and inexpensive air monitor. An easy and cheap entry point into the world of air quality monitoring. It gets you thinking about the quality of your air, and it gives you quantifiable data that you can show your family members to convince them to make changes to their behaviors for the benefits of your health.

I’ve had mine for about 3-4 weeks now. It seems to be accurate though it does need the full 7 days calibration before you take any VOC data for face value. When it gets in the yellow zone I open the windows to ventilate and the numbers go down.

I mainly bought it for my car as I got headaches and yawning. It’s small size means I just pop it in my drink holder and it fits perfectly. Wow! Inside my car is very toxic. So I’ve ordered a car air purifier.

I’m also curious about the decomposing mouse in my bedroom so I plan to get another mini. I’ll use a good air purifier that tackles VOC and the mini will be my indicator when I can move back into my bedroom.

The mini is very intuitive and easy to set up. Great app. You can program it to notify you when levels reach threshold levels and take action.

If you are worried about mold then this product will only tell you if the room you place it has the possibility of mold. The product senses temperature and humidity and if it falls into the right range it will show a red light when you wave your hand infront of it.

Otherwise you get either a green light for no possibility of mold or a yellow light for a slight possibility of mold. It will not tell you if you do have mold.

This unit performs well and gives me good insight into my indoor air quality. I did lots of research and this unit is well respected by experts. I use a power brick and a 5v to 9v converter (cheap to buy) to make it a portable device.

The 0. 5 micron detection is very sensitive, which I like. I recently suffered through weeks of terrible air due to wildfires (Northern California) and this initunit will really help in the next fire.

Silvane was great, as in other purchases I have made.

After reading reviews about Radon detecting products, I decided to get an on-going monitor versus a one shot deal one which I would likely need to repeat multiple times. I initially purchased an Air Wave+ and hub and was very impressed with everything, easy to install/configure (no issues) and I was monitoring in just a few minutes.

After seeing my levels being so high, I moved the sensor a few times to zero in the Radon points of entry, I realized that it would be difficult to monitor difference in various spots in our basement and decided to purchase a second sensor.

This setup makes me very confident I will understand where and and at what levels Radon was entering. The app is great; I use it on my phone, my tablet and on my laptop. I really like the Web dashboard it gives me 12 hour periods as well.

The fluctuations forced me to learn a lot more about Radon and how it fluctuates sometimes quite significantly with variations in barometric pressure. The colour coding is a nice touch and makes it easy to see if one or more of the 6 items monitored is above warning or safe tolerances.

Excellent value for a quality product, that works as advertised and is both simple and powerful. We are very happy with the purchase and would not hesitate to recommend. Thanks.

Had this Airthings plus for about 2 weeks now. Very cool to be able to monitor your air quality including Radon levels. The levels and effects of radon don’t seem to be very common knowledge strangely enough.

Turns out the Okanagan Valley actually has pretty high levels. This unit is very easy to use and track many aspects of your air quality. The only drawback for me is that the only way to gather the data is via Bluetooth.

For most people this will be a non issue, however I would rather have the choice to turn the bluetooth off and upload data via lan connection or SD card as we have a wireless free home ( had to make an exception for the airthings for a limited time ) Overall very satisfied with the performance of product and associated software.

5 Stars. If you are anything like me and enjoy tracking and monitoring data you will really enjoy the customizable dashboard. Also as a note they also sell a hub to connect all of your monitors( if you were to have multiple) which automatically uploads data to cloud for the ability to monitor live data remotely if that were to appeal to you.

Hi, I have the Airthings mini and Airthings Wave, but the Wave Plus with it’s CO2, Radon and VOC monitors on top of everything else it reads (Temp, Humidity, Pressure) is a wonder. It is amazing to see how much the CO2 levels in my house rise and fall depending on how many people are present at any given time.

It rises so sharp I am currently looking into a HRV system to bring in Fresh air from the outside in the winter to alleviate some of these problems. Without this unit I wouldn’t have known just how bad our inside air can get when the windows are shut.

This is a must have for anyone worried about the Air Quality that their families are breathing.

Off the top, I have to say that our house is heavily invested in HomeKit. That preference does tend to narrow down the choices somewhat, but fortunately there are companies like Eve that do an exceptional job of supporting HomeKit.

We wanted to be able to monitor the temperature and humidity in various rooms in our house, and while these have the added bonus of air quality, they fit that requirement at a reasonable price. They’re small, so they are easy to place wherever you want in the room.

My only gripe is setup; it took a few tries to get each one to play nicely with our network. I’d scan the QR-ish code in the (very excellent!) Eve app, and it wouldn’t appear. It took some futzing around (and I can’t be more specific because I’m not sure what actually caused it to work), but we finally got all three working.

After that, it’s been a breeze. We can ask Siri what the temperature, humidity, or air quality is in a room, and get a response. The Eve app also lets us go and look at historical graphs. Plus, they can integrate with triggers to perform actions like kicking on a fan when it starts to get warm.

Overall, they are worth it. Setup issues aside, they’re solid, reliable, and rechargeable. No complaints here, in fact we plan on buying some more.

I’m happy with this little monitor!I don’t have any independent way to gauge accuracy, but it appears to be good. I get the readings I’d expect outdoors, and repeatable results if I bring it between rooms, and it clearly responds when there are more people in a room.

The device itself is pretty small (2. 75″x2. 75″x1″); not quite small enough for a pants pocket, but it fits in a jacket pocket easily. The e-paper display is great. Very easy to read in various lighting and seems to have a long battery life.

It’s worth noting that like most e-paper, when it refreshes the display, the whole thing blinks (inverted colors), which might be distracting if it’s in your field of view. The app (I used iOS) could use some work on performance in the graph view, but is otherwise pretty solid (no trouble making a bluetooth connection, etc.

).

In a world where every device and their cat has an app that you need to use the device, the Aranet4 is a breath of fresh air. It’s form factor is great, a great use of an e-ink display and while there is an app that you can use (or not use), there is no requirement for an account.

More devices need to be designed with these principles in mind. As for its functionality, it has greatly improved my working conditions. I now have a visual queue for ‘get some fresh air’, which is harder to ignore than ‘oh i’m just feeling a little sleepy, i’ll open the window after I’ve finished this thing’.

And to top it off, I bought a second for my partners office within an hour of using the device. It’s a must buy.

I didn’t realize how much carbon DIOXIDE was in our home from dead air not exchanging with fresh air. It was alarming how quickly CO2 rises in our car and rooms that we share. This device, assuming NDIR sensor readings are accurate, makes me think twice about not opening windows and turning on fans.

The e-ink display is great, but wish it had WiFi and Apple Home integration. Currently I have to look at the display or connect via bluetooth and the Aranet app to monitor which isn’t a big deal since I’m unlikely to be able to do much if I’m not close to the sensor.

Now looking at buying a second sensor for the other side of my home.

I was so excited to receive my Z-2500 with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. With the caveat that Trusens JUST came out with this model i expected possibility there would be an issue. We had difficulty connecting the purifier to our phone app (the UI of the app is beautiful and simple).

It seemed to drop from Bluetooth on both our Android phones. I was able to get it connected on my phone eventually but the next step was connecting to WiFi and it failed. Then it seemed the Bluetooth wouldn’t connect.

After a couple of hours we gave up. We setup the sensor pod/puck about 12 feet from the unit as directed and let it all be. The next day out of curiosity I opened the app and it was showing our unit was connected and I could now control the unit with the app.

But now it was showing the sensor pod was failed. We checked for app updates, there were none. I’ve tried resetting the pod several times but it’s still failed. I called the nice people in Customer Service who stated it’s likely a defective unit and I’ll need to get a replacement.

Sadly, I have no idea when that will happen as I’ve not received an email back. But I’m hopeful if we can get a unit that connects correctly that we will buy a couple more. Also, we aren’t quite sure if the filter included is a True HEPA or not.

I purchased the True HEPA filter a at same time and will exchange once we find out. I’d rather not waste a filter. Overall, the unit seems to work fine. If we receive our replacement quickly I would definitely give this a better rating.

I should start off by saying that I’ve recently had my ducts cleaned (not just vacuumed but practically scrubbed!), and I installed a new HVAC unit with a UV light (which the trusens product also has) – so my air quality was pretty good to begin with.

But I have terrible allergies that lead to sinus infections which lead to bronchial issues that put me out of commission for weeks at a time. I don’t have time to be out sick like this once or twice every year, so I purchased this product to see if it could help.

I started out by putting it in my bedroom. At first it went crazy, like it was a rocket launcher ready to take off! The indicator light which tells you how good your air quality is, never went higher than 50 and then quickly came down to 06.

That means the air quality is pretty darn awesome! Then I made my bed and fluffed up the blanket and the machine went crazy again (it’s a newly purchased hypo-allergenic duvet blanket), but again it never went above 50 and then quickly came down again to 06.

So then I took it to each room. In my daughter’s room it again tried to take off, and got all the way up to 211!! It cleaned her room for a while and then came down to about 10 where it stabilized. Took it to my other daughter’s room where it started out zooming up again (this time got to 99), and then stabilized at 08, until my Mom came it to make the bed.

She had some older hand knitted blankets on the bed, so when she fluffed up the blankets, the trusty trusens went crazy and got over 250, but then came back down again. I share this info with you because I find it sooooooo helpful to know when it’s working and what the air quality is.

When I brought it down to the kitchen, it went crazy when I started cooking with gas and when we blew out birthday candles. Overall, I think this is a fabulous product! I now take it with me when I’m cleaning a room – fluffing pillows, vacuuming, anything that makes the air move.

And it cleans the air while I’m cleaning the room.

Ever since I started using this product my sinuses have been so much clearer. It may have also saved me from a house fire. I thought I may have smelled something burning. My air purifier was up in the 80s indicating something was odd causing my husband to further investigate.

Turns out we had a bunch of lint in our dryer line that almost caught on fire. After we cleaned the line out, the purifier started to read lower numbers. I’m very grateful we have those sensors, may have saved my house.

Excellent,very accurate Station for the price. Its minor flaws are running a few degrees high in full sun. That can be remedied with makeshift additional shield easily. The other is having to log n2 router isp to use software.

They need to change that. That’s why 4 instead of 5 stars.

I wish there was another dimming function. too broght for the bedoom at night. otherwise a great unti.

I bought this for my disabled husband, he not only enjoys looking at it outside ,but enjoys knowing the weather conditions outside. I recommend this product. Very easy to set up

I have been using this monitor for a year to monitor the inside AQI in my house. In that year, I have learned a lot about how to keep my inside air quality much better than outside air during the fire season.

The device itself is fairly easy to set up and it allows me to monitor my inside AQI wherever I am in my house. It displays inside AQI, 2. 5 micron particles, CO2, etc. and also shows the outside values in my neighborhood (as reported by other registered users with detectors outside).

In the past year, I have learned the following:1. When the AQI outside is bad, the AQI inside will be somewhat better inside if I keep my windows and doors shut. But unless I do something to filter my inside air, it may only be 20 points lower inside.

There is a lag between worsening outside AQI and the inside AQI, but since houses are not airtight, eventually the indoor AQI worsens. 2. By installing a MERV 13 air filter in my forced air furnace, running just the fan (no heat), and keeping all windows and doors closed, I can lower the index inside by 50 – 80 points compared to outside.

So if it is “yellow” outside, it will be “green” inside. If it is “orange” outside, it will be high “green” to lower “yellow” inside, and so on. A better whole-house air filtration system, perhaps using a 4” thick MERV 14 or higher filter, could achieve an even higher differential between outside and inside AQI.

3. When the MERV 13 filter gets dirty, I can see that my inside air is no longer 50 – 80 points better (your results will vary, depending on the air filtration system you use), but it tells me when to use the filtration and also when to replace the filter, rather than just guessing.

When the smoke was so bad that the sun didn’t rise, my filter got clogged in a week! Remember to judge by the difference between outside and inside AQI, not by absolute inside AQI. 4. If anyone in the household opens a window, even in a remote room whose door is shut, you can see the AQI index jump on the meter, within a short time.

5. Exhaust fans that ventilate indoor air, especially whole house fans, will cause a similar jump, worsening the indoor AQI. Find them and turn them off. They suck out cleaner air which gets replaced by outside air.

6. Broiling in the oven can temporarily change the indoor quality from “green” into the “red” region. 7. In the winter, a wood fire in the fireplace makes the air quality go into the “purple” region, even when the outside air is “green”.

This has made me give up on using my wood burning fireplace, at least until I can find a way to improve the draft and prevent smoke in the house. 8. On hot days, with windows shut, running a few room/wall/window air conditioner units in various rooms keeps the indoor temperature bearable, because the forced air fan circulates the cool air from those 2 or 3 rooms throughout the whole house.

Of couse, if you have whole house A/C, just use that, with a MERV 13 filter. These are the highlights. Overall, knowing and controlling the indoor AQI of my house have been highly educational and beneficial.

The IQAir AirVisual Pro has a beautiful, high-resolution display, a refined and approachable user interface, and a usable companion Android app. Human interactions with the device are about as intuitive as possible, given that the device has only four hard buttons and no touchscreen.

The companion app is a convenient means of viewing current and historical readings from anywhere, even when the device’s screen is off. I have no way of judging the accuracy of the readings, but I will say that the device is very responsive to changing environmental conditions.

Strike a match on the other side of the room, and the device’s PM readings react as soon as the particles can diffuse across the room to it. Open a window, and the readings immediately begin to fall.

I am very impressed with the responsiveness of the PM meter, even when it is not set in “continuous” measurement mode, which I actually haven’t found a need for since the default measurement mode is so responsive.

My concerns are the same as my concerns with many/most “Internet of Things” devices: namely, that much of the device’s functionality is highly dependent upon the continued existence and operation of the company’s servers.

If IQAir ever goes out of business or decides to stop supporting the AirVisual Pro, then the usefulness of the device will be strongly negatively impacted. I would like to see a proper local API for taking readings from the device directly via the LAN.

It could be JSON-RPC over HTTP or even something as basic as SNMP, just some way of triggering the device to take a measurement and some way of retrieving the most recent measurement that doesn’t depend on IQAir.

I am aware of the Samba server in the device, which is why I didn’t give a lower rating, but that’s not really an API. My other wish for this device would be to have a single screen where *all* sensor readings are displayed in one place, just as text with no cutesy graphics.

The device evidently measures PM10 concentrations in addition to PM2. 5 but doesn’t display those measurements anywhere in the UI, so that would be a welcome addition as well. I should mention that the first device I received (purchased directly from IQAir) was defective: it powered up only once to a black (but illuminated) screen, and after being turned off, it never turned on again.

IQAIr, to their credit, sent me a replacement and a return shipping label free of charge, and the replacement has performed like a champ.

Perhaps had I bought this first I might not have purchased two of the IQAir HealthPro filter systems. With this monitor I know when the air is bad and therefore need to turn my filters on. Our summers have fires and our winters usually have pretty serious inversions where the air really gets bad, but this year so far we have escaped these bad inversions and with the monitor I have been able to not run the filters thereby significantly extending the filter lives.

I seriously would recommend the Air Quality Monitor to anyone concerned about the quality of the air in their neighborhood and in their homes. Without this, you are just guessing. Buy this first and use it to help you decide if you really do need your air treated.

If the readings say you need help, then I enthusiastically recommend the Health Pro Series filters. No incentives have been offered or accepted for this review.

I’ve been using it for a few days and I’m loving it. The whole experience is generally very good (application, hardware, information) and it’s super easy to set up. The device constantly monitors several variables and I receive push notifications when the air is bad in my house.

I recommend this to anyone who is concerned about radon levels and interested in monitoring the air they breathe.

The design and functionality appears reasonable but I had significant issues with setup due to Bluetooth issues with the latest iPad. After much trying and repeated factory resets, I finally thought to reboot the iPad and after that the setup went smoothly.

Recently, there was also an outage of the mobile app so for a couple of days I could not see any status but it eventually came back online.

Excellent Apple Home Kit Smart Device. We used it for monitor air conditions for our new born. Excellent, instant alerts for ensuring they were safe & able to have a good nights sleep

It’s interesting to see the effect of cooking on air quality and move around to different rooms.

This was a wake up call for me. There are 9 sensors that this device monitors and sends me regular updates to my cell phone. Quick and easy to see issues, the reports are green when its in the recommended zones and it changes to orange when its out of these zones.

For every out of zone warning it has a tab bottom right called insights when you tap it, it tells you what the related warnings are and what the recommended fixes are. My biggest surprise came when I tested it in my bedroom with the doors CLOSED on a cool and the air conditioner TURNED OFF.

With no air circulation in the room as we slept we kept breathing out carbon dioxide in the morning the censor reports were in bright red for CO2 and the reading was 3X above the normal reading. The insight button said open a window and increase air circulation immediately.

This explains why my sleep habits have been so restless because there was no air circulating in my bedroom. Next night I slept with my bedroom door open and the air conditioner OFF and the readings were just above normal because I now had a whole home of air circulation through my bedroom door.

There are so many other things I learned from this device too much to list. The other main one was my humidity levels and the dampness warnings. I am so impressed with how this has changed my life. I have allergies and would wake up sneezing every morning and had to take a Reactine everyday.

Its been 2 months now since I have this device and I no longer sneeze upon awaking and I have not used a Reactine for about 2 months. My allergies is so much better now and I sleep better. Thanks uHoo.

After owning two of these for a month, I can attest to their usefulness and the readings seem very reasonable. I have two other air monitoring units by other manufacturers. While this model is much more expensive, the uHoo app dominates the others (some don’t have apps or connect to WiFi).

It’s great to be able to see all the room data in one spot. This air quality monitor looks at more data items than most other air monitors — CO is particularly unique. Once I brought an air purifier to the room, the air quality improved tremendously, so the uHoo sensor is working properly.

I’m going to be buying more of these to place in other parts of the house. While they are expensive, the number of measurements and simplicity of a single app is a big plus. There is some minor setup to get it tapped into your WiFi.

I had no problems getting it to work, but some people have had to fuss a little more and so it could be a minor hassle for you. But once it’s set up, it’s great. Any unit from another brand that connects to your WiFi will have to go through a similar process.

I had much more hassle with a different manufacturer compared to uHoo. The clean “Apple-look” means it’s not so in your face like other brands with displays and looks nice sitting in living areas, etc.

Or if you put in your bedroom, you don’t have unwanted lights at night.

The uHoo is a “smart” indoor air quality monitoring sensor. It covers 9 different things (temperature, humidity, air pressure, CO, CO2, Ozone, NO2, VOCs, and PM2. 5). That last one is essentially just dust and about the only questionable measurement it gives.

What makes it smart is that there’s an app that goes along with it which can give you alerts for different types of scenarios using a combination of measurements of those nine quantities. In the context of COVID-19 and recent fires in the area, this kind of device can be useful but the ecosystem around turning that data into useful action is not really there.

The uHoo package is pretty simple. The monitor, usb cable, and power adapter. You set up the device in one room, I’d recommend a family room or other main room in the house that gets decent usage, download the app and use it to configure the uHoo (pairing it to your wifi), and then you’re off to the races checking out air quality and getting alerts.

You get a colored (red, yellow, green) view of the quality of the 9 different monitors but you can also look at the actual numeric level that was measured. Some measurements aren’t truly ready immediately, so plan on having this sit for a couple days before relying on all the monitors.

I’m not sure what that means if you take it traveling – does it need another 2 days of warm up or is it just a first time thing? I don’t have a good way to verify the numeric values reported by the uHoo.

Qualitatively, I can verify a few monitors did change in response to environmental conditions. We’ve had fires in the area, about 3-4 hours away but waves of smoke which blanket the city. Enough that it’s become a regular thing to come out in the morning to a car coated in a fine mist of ash.

The uHoo definitely saw the change in CO and CO2 and NO2 emissions. On a day where the city was issuing ozone warnings, the uHoo did have it’s ozone monitor go into the yellow at home. The PM2. 5 has always been in the green – I suspeect it would work but the uHoo is designed as an indoor sensor and my own response, based on what I can see and smell is to close my windows when there’s obviously poor air quality.

So, while the uHoo does report things and seemingly it is responsive and likely accurate, on it’s own, at the level that I’d notice the poor air quality myself, there’s no beenfit over having yet another notification telling me something I either already know or would know from the radio, digital billboards, or other announcements in my normal day.

So, it seems the big utility for this is in its integration wiht other services, IFTTT, Google assistant, and Alexa to name a few. If there was a recommended action that I could take with this in conjunction with my HVAC or some other device, perhaps an air purifier.

However, aside from acting as another temperature sensor input to the HVAC, I don’t really see this as a useful data source for my home automation. And my other devices already bundle environmental data from other sources in the area that I’m not sure I get much benefit from having the uHoo locally.

I can see this being more usefull if there was a system in place to automatically close windows, purify air and take some action to combat bad air quality but at best, it seems it can serve as a warning that something is wrong when you’re away from home for an extended period of time.

The uHoo does a good job of monitoring and reports measurements in an easy to understand interface. But that’s where things currently end. Without a way to make good use of this information, it’s at the level of a home weather station – just duplicates information you likely already see when you glance at your phone or smart thermostat.

I placed this device in the middle of the house which happens to be the kitchen. It was quick to use straight out of the box. First you download the Airthings Wave app which doesn’t take long. Next, remove the tab from the battery and put it on the stand.

Enable the bluetooth on your phone for it to work with the app. Open the app and that’s pretty much it. It takes approximately 7 days for it to fully calibrate. On the main page of the app it shows the the overall Air Quality, TVOC, Humidy and temperature.

You delve down deeper to see how the TVOC, Humidity and Temperature average has been for the past 48 hrs, week, month or Year. Overall great little device in monitoring and knowing the overall basic info of my house’s air quality.

Pros: Airthings was extremely easy to set up. It’s not intrusive and fits in well in any room. The intuitive using interface of the app allows you to see and understand exactly what was going on with little effort.

Overall it was insightful and very helpful. I would recommend this product to anyone interested in their health or is just curious about their air quality. Cons: I would have liked some indication on the pollen count.

I am really glad I got this air wave mini. I like how it is easy to use. Just follow the instructions on the paperwork that came in the box. It usually takes seven full days for you to get it synchronized and making sure that it works like it’s supposed to.

I like how I can just wave it my phone over the many and be able to get instant results. You can also get results by go into the app and actually looking at what it says. I like how it gives you results for the last 48 hours the last week the last month that is so easy for me but I’ll be able to tell how the air quality and the average temperature and stuff is in my house.

It has shown me how to keep my air temperature normal and to check for bad things in the air.

I live in an area where radon is extremely common so air quality and the monitoring of that air is extremely important to my family. We commonly use air purifiers and previously had regularly submitted air samples periodically for testing.

When I saw that there was a new air monitor on the market, I knew I had to try it out. Especially since it’s made by a brand that I trust and respect. The first thing that I noticed about this air monitor is that it is MUCH smaller than I had expected.

That’s was actually a really nice surprise since this size allows you to put it just about anywhere without really noticing it’s there. I’d say it’s about the size of a softball. Setup was simple once I downloaded the app.

The app itself is extremely basic and doesn’t provide a ton of info. It shows your current air quality levels and tells you whether they’re in good ranges or not, but that’s about all. I wish that it provided a bit more info regarding what or why the air is out of range.

Also, I believe that this air monitor would be best suited for a room or area with limited activity. I initially placed this in our bedroom but plan to move it to the basement. In our bedroom, the air monitor seemed extremely sensitive to any changes made in the room even though the monitor was placed far from any windows.

Anytime the shower was used or the window was opened, the air monitor would turn red and the VOC count would skyrocket. From there, it would take hours to settle back to normal levels. Although it may be accurate, it’s not all that helpful if I just assume that each spike is due to a shower or other minor event.

I think it’ll work perfect in our basement though. The LED light is great and extremely bright. All in all, this is a great device. If it provided just a bit more info, I’d absolutely love it.

I got this to work alongside my new air purifier in hopes of maybe reducing some of the at home pollutants that have been causing my asthma to run amuck lately and it’s been very helpful in alerting me to dangers.

It is super small and compact, making it easy to put anywhere in the house. I was able to set it up and have it up and running in just a few minutes. It works with an app and I love that it notifies me at any given time of dangerous levels.

It also not only monitors indoor air quality but also gives you information within the app as to the outdoor quality. The monitor has LED lighting that changes colors based on good air quality to bad air quality so it’s easy to understand without even looking at the app.

I used it a few days before I bought my purifier so I could get an idea of what my home air quality was like and was not surprised to see things getting better once I installed the air purifying machine.

I like having peace of mind that the air in my home is clean and safe not just for me but for my family. The greatest feature is that you can link it to smart voice machines such as Alexa or Google Home.

I use mine with Google Home and it’s made it so much easier. This is especially great for anyone with allergies or respiratory illnesses.

So far, the temperature portion of the air quality monitor has not shown to be accurate, although it still says “calibrating” on the third day. I have compared the temperature readings to an Ambient Weather temperature / humidity sensor and a Google Nest temperature sensor next to it.

The particulate matter sensor also displays “calibrating”, and although I have an Ambient Weather indoor air quality sensor I have not compared their readings. Setup was trivial, except on my Samsung Galaxy phone the barcode scanner on the Amazon Alexa app wasn’t good enough to scan through the plastic dome covering the QR code, so I had to resort to the book.

The sensor does seem moderately well integrated with the Alexa app. In particular the integration seems better than the Ambient Weather integration. When you ask Alexa “what is the temperature of (room name)” she responds with the sensor temperature reading.

Zvukový alarm se dá vypnout a zobrazuje se poté na displeji jen ikonka špatného vzduchu. Rozhodně doporučuji.

Halb gedimmt dann nur noch +0. 5 Grad was akzeptabel ist. Auch die Feuchte ist gerade noch so tolerierbar mit +3%. Verglichen wurde es mit einem Profi Labormessgerät. Zu den CO2 Werten kann ich nur so viel sagen, dass die Belastungswerte im Freien in ländlicher Gegend unter 400ppm sind.

Kann man nachgoogeln. Wenn ich 3-5 min. stosslüfte, verharrt der Wert bei 400ppm. Darunter kann das Gerät nicht anzeigen. Also ok.
