20 Best Outdoor Kayak Storage Rack (2022 Updated)

Seems like a really good product. I just finished installing it. Four burly screws and you’re done. Solid rectangular shaped steel bars that nestle solidly against the wall. Good padding. Good strapping with nylon clips.

I installed mine about 5 feet high so it isn’t too hard to get the boat into it, but I can still store stuff underneath of it.  REI ships quick.

Installation tip – the screws included will strip regardless of what you use. I would suggest getting some Lag bolts and using a socket. You’ll thank me later!!!

I was going to build one from PVC fittings, but they would almost cost the same. The rack is mounted on our dock for salt water use kayaks. Bad storm the other night 51 mph winds. Rack didnt move a bit.

Great product! Although I did clear coat the paint to help protect it.

Just bought this a week and a half ago, arrived very quick, 3 days tops. Put it together in a maybe an hour, was a fun project for me and the man. Goes great on the porch, such a space saver for our kayaks! Spaced out the hooks more than what the picture shows and they fit great our 3 are 10 footers.

No more kayaks on the floor or tilted against the wall. its so sturdy that I stubbed and broke my pinky toe on the foot of it not even a week after having it! It blends well with the carpet on the porch, so be careful of the feet that stuck out fairly far.

besides me being clumsy, I absolutely love this product!.

After getting this 3-kayak storage rack assembled, and then placing my kayaks into it, I could tell that I had made a good purchase. The quality seems good, and the amount of space that it frees up in my garage is amazing.

I am glad I made the purchase, and have already recommended it to one of my daughters. The only negative that I can think of is that the assembly instructions could use some improvement. For example, several of the bolts come with 3 washers (2 flat ones, and 1 lock washer).

I had to do some internet research in order to figure out exactly how to place the washers.

The rack was pretty easy to assemble, and it easily holds two kayaks. One of our kayaks is the Hobie Outback, so it’s pretty wide, and that’s why I am only putting two kayaks on the rack. There is room for the third kayak support to be added to the rack, but I am not going to add it unless I get a much lighter kayak to hoist over my head and onto the rack.

All in all, I am very pleased with this rack. I do wish I had had the option of ordering the caster wheels, but I could not find them on the website. It’s still good without the wheels — they would be nice to have.

The instructions to assemble this rack are incorrect, and if you follow them, it will require a good deal more work than necessary, and could cause damage to the product. Little screws go down the bottom, and big screws at the top.

Also, this product SAYS RIGHT ON THE BOX (but not on this website) that it is INDOOR ONLY. Finally, it says on the website, good for kayaks of any length. THE BOX says otherwise 14 feet (75 lbs) on top, and 16 feet (100 lbs) on the bottom.

All in all, this product is a cheap, short term solution. It’s wobbly, and will probably fall apart before long (especially because I needed something for outdoor use). I currently am using it for storage of 2 14-15 foot 60-70 lbs kayaks, and it serves the purpose.

Works as advertised. Some of the long screws were slightly shorter than they should have been, but I was able to use them for the top rack. I also added some padding (pipe insulating foam) to the lower vertical bars.

Went together easily and holds my two Feelfree Lures, which are quite heavy and bulky, very well. Very compact. We’ll see how it holds up but pleased with the purchase at this point.

After looking at different holders for our garage, we purchased the Malone sling. It was easy to install and quite sturdy. Our kayaks are 10 1/2 feet long and a bit heavy. With two people you can slide the nose into the sling on one end and attach the metal carabiner to the sling on the other end.

This was a perfect purchase to keep our kayaks off the floor and a lot easier than the system we were using before. For the price, incredible.

With 2 kayaks and a SUP the storage sling hangs down almost 9 feet. My garage has tall ceilings and can accommodate but the challenge then become getting the top 2 out when you want to use them. Eventually I cut the bottom sling off and used the i-shaped hooks to run some nylon rope through and attached to a cleat on the wall so that I could raise and lower like a pulley system.

The pieces and parts are very sturdy and easily hold the weight of 3 watercraft.

Nicely made kayak racks with just two flaws, one minor. Minor Flaw: BELIEVE the reviews that tell you to throw away the screws that come with it and use some quality screws. I didn’t and broke off 2 that I couldn’t get backed out.

Trying to back them out with pliers just showed how soft they really are. they just kept falling apart. Slightly More Major Flaw (for me): The machine screw that holds the two pieces together rests against the bottom of the kayaks when they sit in the J racks.

(see picture) This is not good because it will eventually deform the hull and create a weak spot. I will place a strip of plumbing pipe insulation over the racks to pad the back side of the racks to eliminate this flaw.

All in All: Good Product, Great Price. Problem Solver for those of us with low garage ceilings or wish to store kayaks on an outside wall.

Good Kayak hooks, sturdy and padded. Only thing i didnt like is the screws that come in the box, i had to use better ones since they stripped or heads snapped off easily.

This Product does exactly what it was designed to do with no notable design, manufacturing or functionality flaws that I can tag to it. However, I will not put down the product but somehow think for the price it could be better, I.

e. stainless steel. I am not trying to steer away potential RAD Sportz buyers, but in hindsight, I think if I looked harder I may have found a lower priced deal or cheaper comparable product.

I was looking for a sturdy kayak storage rack for our floating dock and ran into this one via a google search. I contacted sales to ask if this would work on a floating dock the initial reply was that it hadn’t be designed for it, but could potentially work.

I decided to take the jump and order one of these to try it out and turns out it works great on my dock. The metal pieces in the shipment felt a bit flimsy and bend easily, but when they are bolted together it’s pretty sturdy.

One of the eyelets broke off when I tried to bend it a bit to get a carabiner on there, but after contacting support they immediately shipped me a new piece without any questions asked. Great service!.

Just installed this yesterday. Rack looks great and easily accommodates 1 two-man kayak and 3 SUP’s. Love the way it moves most of the space needed for storage over the water vs sitting on the dock. I was able to accomplish exactly what I wanted.

Only reason not rated as Excellent is that some of the bars arrived bent. I was able to fix them, but shouldn’t have had to. Material is light weight and easy to bend, so be careful to not over-tighten bolts or you could have a problem.

Fairly easy to install. Supports my two kayaks and one SUP. Only complaint I have is that the type “J” screws are not long enough. One month after installation the screws located at the toe of the horizontal base plate had pulled out of TWO layers of 1-1/2″ wood support.

Had to replace with much longer screws. Would have preferred to use through bolts with a nut on the underside however, could not find stainless steel bolts to suit the base plate hole size for a 4″ long bolt length.

Hands down, storeyourboard’s kayak rack design is the best in terms of quality, installation, and design. All hardware was neatly packaged upon delivery. Square tubing structures were flawless with no imperfections.

Installation was a breeze – one-person job. The tiered kayak rack concept is solid, rigid, and is user friendly to access kayaks. Placing the kayaks off the ground freed up garage space.

We bought this storage rack to hold two kayaks and leave room for expansion. Installation was super easy and I love that the pin system makes it easy to change the height of each bar. Would totally buy again.

however, would not use the instructions exactly as printed. Instructions said to put the wall brackets in the fourth hole. We did that and affixed the vertical bars to the wall at the height we needed.

The bottom horizontal bars for the first kayak would NOT fit on the bottom of the vertical bar if you do this. You at least need the FIFTH hole for th wall brackets on the vertical bars. For us, it didn’t matter right now since we only have two kayaks at this time.

However, if you want to fit four on here, you definitely need to position those wall brackets on the fifth hole in from each end, not the fourth. Even with this issue, we are seriously happy with this purchase.

My garage is so organized I can’t stop looking at it.

I absolutely love this storage system. Easy to install and keeps my 4 kayaks safe and inside my garage. Sounds silly but I enjoy looking at them and how organized my garage is now and makes me want to float even more.

We love this rack – we are currently storing 2 kayaks, 3 pairs of skis, a snowboard several sets of poles, and 3 surfboards. It assembled easily. We set up the ski rack so all the snow gear rests on the ground – the skis don’t hang.

Surfboards stacked in the paddle board slot. The rack can be reconfigured for other set ups – we may do that by season. I wish the casters were offered during ordering as a add-on. I only learned about them when reading a review after we the initial purchase.

I’ll have to order those separately. These will be handy for moving the entire rack when it is empty or slight adjustments when full. Also, not all the bolts came that we needed for the last cross bar – the set was short 2 bolts and 4 nuts.

I have 2 kayaks, 4 surfboards among other “toys”. The foot print was overwhelming and taking over my garage. This rack solved the issue by reducing everything to one place. The kayaks and boards are safe and secure.

I looked all over for a solution and even started to build something. Bottom line. you will pay more, take more time, and have a lesser solution if you DIY. The price and strength of this rack is second to none.

Needed a sturdy rack on wheels to hold 6 yaks and this excelled. Nicely packaged, lots of parts but assembled quickly with friends & socket gun. Everything just fit, very solid & easy to roll out of way since in a garage.

Will buy another one when we expand our Trail Life Troop yaks. Highly recommended.

Just recd & set it up. Good sturdy construction. Seems to be high quality. Fit in my small garage easily. Loaded 3 sit on top pelican nxt 100 kayaks and a solid SUP. Castors roll easily. Can lift kayks into place but found it easiest to slide them in from the ends on the well padded hangers.

I put paddles and ski on top 2 hangers.

Seems like a great product. Sturdy, however did not work for our wide fishing kayaks, as the arms were not long enough. We had to use bungee cords to hold them on the lowest arm and will at least keep them in a general space.

We Love this rack. It looks perfect by the lake, the wood logs fit in with the landscape vs the metal racks. Putting it together was easy. Except one area we messed up was the top racks vs the bottom racks.

They were mixed up and we put a bottom on the top. After looking closing at them we decided they are identical and it won’t matter. Well Of course it did when it came time to drive a screw down into the support.

There wasn’t a pre drill hole. Really no big deal as we simply drilled a hole and inserted the screw. Just a caution. We got the whole thing together and leveled in under two hours.

Excellent product. Quality cedar wood. Holes well drilled and hardware provided good quality. Instructions were easy to understand but did watch assembly video to get idea of putting rack together. We also sealed the the rack to help preserve it.

This rack is just what we needed. It is sturdy, attractive, and uses space efficiently. We love the natural look of the wood. The ordering process was easy and the rack arrived in less than a week. We are completely satisfied with the produce and the service.

Relatively easy to put together, build quality is really good and most importantly it does hold 2 12 foot kayaks that are easy to get on and off. J hooks are nice and wide and long enough fit. I am pretty confident in this purchase and would definitely purchase again.

Great way to get those Kayak’s out of the way for Winter. I was impressed with the weightand mobility of this rack and it sure cleared up space in the garage

After looking at many Kayak storage devices I found this one. I needed something that would not take up much space and was easy to use. This Kayak Rack is perfect for our needs. It is also very good quality.

It arrived quickly and was very easy to install. My only complaint is that the holes in the mounting brackets are too far apart to screw into a stud on both sides. The screws come with drywall anchors but I would not recommend that application.

I put 2 screws on one side into the stud and the two on the other side into the drywall and that seems to work fine. Overall I am very satisfied with the product.

I really like the rack and it was straightforward to assemble. Pretty sure it will be a hit at the condo complex. One issue, however, is that the rack cannot be used during the winter in snowy environments.

I really wish this was made clear at the time of purchase. I only found out about this by a statement at the end of the assembly instructions. Would have been very good to know before the purchase.

The kayak/sup storage rack was easy to put together, is sturdy as can be, and looks good. Rather than having boards and kayaks strewn about, they are neatly and safely stacked on the rack. A great purchase.

It’s so nice to look over and see all our kayaks and paddle boards organized. The quality is great. The only difficulty assembling was because our ground was so uneven and it was hard to keep everything squared up while assembling.

I previously had a PVC rack I constructed which served it’s purpose but I was looking for a better product to gain some of my garage space back. This overhead rack was exactly what I needed. I experienced minor shipping delays however that is a major problem with any distribution company right now and of no fault of storeyourboard.

Once I received the product, I saw the quality workmanship first hand. The supplied hardware was all that was needed and in less than 30 minutes I had the mounts installed and the rack was ready to be used.

The ability to turn the mounting brackets as needed to align with the studs in my garage made installation a breeze. I also appreciate the ability to raise or lower the cross beams which allow you to adjust how close you want the kayaks to your ceiling.

I am glad I stumbled upon this product, and am now looking through storeyourboards other products to further organize my garage and gain even more space back.

K, l’m going to sound like an old man here 😂 It is so rare to buy something online and have a quality experience throughout the process. My order arrived on time. Once I opened the box I was pleasantly surprised to find the parts carefully packed with without that “cheap” feeling.

That was the first clue that this was a quality product. On inspection of the parts and hardware I was further pleased with the build quality. Installation was a breeze and no trips to the hardware store or mods to product required.

My kayaks fit above my garage door with plenty of clearance. Thanks for making a quality product!.

I am very pleased with the product. It solved my kayak storage needs in a relatively small garage very efficiently. Its flexibility was very helpful to me for raising the support bars high enough to clear the car bellow.

It is also very easy to slide the kayak back and forth as needed to clear other objects in the garage. My only complaint and frustration was with the apparent lack of process and procedure in the companies packaging and shipping.

this is a simple product with only a few parts. the firs shipment included only one of the required vertical post and slide. The second shipment included only the post that connects to the ceiling but not the related sliding part.

The third shipment included the slide but not the required clevis pin. I got sick and tired of calling the company back for the clevis pin and went to local ACE hardware and got the part locally to finish my installation.

Not a reflection of product quality or features but rather the severe lack of coordination and issues with packaging, handling and shipping.

This is the best storage solution for our yard. It was easy to put together and the quality and sturdiness are both so great. Plus it looks fantastic. We love this product and will be looking for other storage and organization products with Store Your Board first.

I purchased this for a client’s new ocean front home. There are no metal parts to deteriorate in the salt-corrosive ocean air. The connectors are all high quality. We trimmed 6″ off of the racks due to narrow location on property and there is still room beyond the large/wide SUP board.

We fastened to the brick wall with stainless eye-hooks and stainless clasp. Instructions or good, but slightly lacking, pay close attention and use common sense. Absolutely gorgeous, durable and fitting to this high-end home!.

We have a place on a lake in NH and wanted to get the canoes/kayaks closer to the water for easy access. This is a solid, attractive alternative to the saw horses we see at other cottages here. Easy to put together; the 3 up isn’t featured in the instructions but it is easy enough to figure it out and requires just a mallet and drill.
