20 Best Outdoor Lock For Gate (2022 Updated)

It doesn’t come with installation hardware because of the many different possibilities for mounting. I just needed some U-bolts and regular bolts, plus nuts and washers, and a metal plate. Turns out the stop plate that came with the opener years ago did the job.

It comes with a small circuit board that’s needed for some models but my opener has lock terminals which I just connected the lock to. Everything has to be lined up to work right, may require some trial and error.

Requires handyman/shade tree mechanic skill level.

The system was very easy to set up, and it connected right away. It’s nice to be able to open and close the gate using the app. And to be tell from the app the status of the gate. I wish it could do a bit more, like program the keypad from the app (thus allowing me to add/delete key codes).

I also wish I could tell it to leave the gate open, and maybe even schedule a time for the gate to close (like in the evenings). I think so much more could be done with the app. So the short of it is that the functionality is pretty basic, but it’s easy to set up and use.

Bridge works great when the GTO servers are online, which is about 50% of the time. The rest of the time, I get a message “Can’t connect to GTO server”. When the servers are offline, I have to walk out to the gate with a remote to let the UPS driver in.

PITA. I just purchased a Sonoff wi-fi switch that I will be testing. So far, in the office, it works flawlessly, no server/hub required. Tomorrow I will put it at the gate and see how it does.

I bought these to add to high gloss white kitchen cupboard doors. They look good. However they are light weight. They were only cheap. I would suggest paying more and buying something more weighty and substantial.

I have read other adverts indicating products made in Spain are better than the Chinese identical version. I am an engineer by trade and I have inspected thoroughly this Chinese Gate/Side door lock and find it to be top quality and ‘second to none’ for design, material and written fixing instruction.

I fail to see how a Spanish product of equal manufacture and component quality would better this one. I am very happy with my purchase and I fully endorse this product.

Professional craftsman 30 years. This lock is good quality at a good price and it comes with 5 security keys and is really easy to fit. Have now ordered more,for myself and customers. After a few months this lock has started to rust making it virtually impossible to operate.

We got two both are like this. Can now see why they are cheap.

I’m a postman so am used to all of the different sorts of gate latch used, and just now few of them work well – so many bounce and don’t latch when gates are pushed shut. This latch works 100% of the time and looks smart.

Nice long bar so it’s flexible on how much of a gap you have on your gate. The lock is a handy feature too, although I’ve not needed to use it yet.

Another great bit of kit I previously bought the hinge of the same brand and I am impressed again, can see this latch lasting years. Really simple to fit and if you get that annoying gate drop it can easily be adjusted meaning no faffing with the hinges.

Quite an expensive device for what it is, basically a gate latch. However, it seems to be well made and the enclosed fixings allow quick and easy fitting to a wooden gate and post. The plate supplied for wooden gates does make the clearance between the gate and post a little tight and I had to cut my gate down a bit to make it fit but that’s no big deal and I’m happy with the positive action and the lockable feature is a great help.

Amazing product, I don’t know why we didn’t buy these years ago!!!! I was a bit put off at paying that price (that TSC will not let me put down). for each gate latch (we have a lot of gates) until I bought one…man why did we wait so long!!! This is probably top 5 favorite items I have ever purchased for the farm!!! Be aware that it Doesn’t come with the bolts! You will get home and be angry when you have to turn around and drive right back to town.

Other than that this is a jam up product and we will be buying lots more for the other gates around the farm!.

This 2-way latch was very easy to install requiring only 4 lag screws for my application. It quickly latches when the gate is pushed from either direction. It has a great looking paint coat for the body and the latch arms appear to be very good zinc chromate coated.

It has a padlock feature where you can add your padlock for added security. Be sure you know the diameter of the pipe on your gate before you order. These come in more than one size for different pipe diameters on your gate.

I highly recommend this latch.

The gate to our goat paddock came with a chain that you had to wrap around the fence post and hook back on the gate to keep it shut. It was a huge pain. It was difficult to open and shut with one hand.

We installed this gate latch, and now I can open the gate, either in or out, whichever I need to do at the time, with one hand, no problem! Installation was not difficult. We did have to secure the goats to take down the gate for installation, but this was to be expected.

I LOVE this latch! Entering and exiting is now a breeze!.

This lock is totally worthless if you have met fencing and in a climate that has huge Temperature fluctuations like high dessert/ northern AZ. The variances between the lock, pin box and pin are so small that any expansion/contraction from hot and cold well cause the lock to jam up and trip the safety features for opener.

Also a huge issue in extreme wind. The wind resistance on a Wire mesh gate with no signs will cause the gate to not close properly. If wind is pushing gate closed then the zombie latch will hit the gate to hard and trigger the gates safety to open back up a few feet.

If the wind is pushing gate open then when gate closed it will not latch on the latch box therefore not securing the gate. I and our neighbors have had this lock and do nothing but fight with it during winds and high temperature fluctuations.

At some point I am confident this will could cause damage to the opener so may have to change whole system because of a zombie lock that’s not functional.

This one works. the Mighty Mule did Not. I have large dogs. My gate opens out so I need something to lock it when it is closed. The Ghost Zombie lock clicks the locking mechanism open long enough so that it does not catch on the release (the Mighty Mule didn’t) and the mechanism stays open long enough for it to lock again.

Yeah! And, there is an easy connection within the control box to connect it. Instructions are straight forward. Very pleased. No long have to chain the gate shut everytime I use it.

Compared to Mighty Mules lock, this lock sends a confirmation to the controller that it has worked. Mighty Mule would sometimes fail to unlock, leading to strain and damage to the gate and controller.

The Zombie lock solves this problem and works fast.

Comes with everything you need, even instructions! The screws provided were 1 drywall screws, I used tamper resistant screws to make it more secure. It works great and it is easy to change the code.

I use it in my closet and it works good.

I use this on an external locker on a canal boat. So far it has deterred passing opportunistic thieves. Only low value items in the locker, so not worth a higher security hasp. Does exactly what I want.

I had to do a good bit of reforming and fabrication to get this to work as designed. The hasp is too close to the mounting surface to flip outward. I used 1/4″ rivets on everythnig, as this isn’t for a high-sec.

application, but more of a kid-proofing type deal. Steel quality is good, but if someone wants in, they’re in within 15 sec. of using a cutting wheel. Really though, the tooling could have been much better for this big guy.

And what’s the point of having a drop forged loop when the hasp in stamped steel?.

This is heavy duty. However the “hinge” is basically a metal loop. I installed it on my barn and the hinge digs into the wood when I open it. May be great for other applications but didnt work well for my installation.

I really like the design of this latch – it worked perfect for a gate that closed against a shed wall. The two-way gate latch from SpeeCo is a bit easier to use but would not have worked for my needs.

I’d recommend that 2-way latch if you have the room for it (need a couple inches between the gate and the post), but this is a good sturdy latch. The toggle really works – if I’m on the opposite side trying to open one-handed and fail to push on the gate when I toggle I will stay locked in (LOL).

2nd update: the key has been getting stuck in the lock more frequently. Even when I use the graphite lubricant, it doesn’t come out. I end up walking away from it and coming back to it a few hours later and suddenly it comes out easily.

I’m about to have a new gate made and I’m thinking I need to find another lock. bummer because I really like this one when the key comes out! Update: It’s been really cold lately and the lock stopped working on the push button side (I was still able to lock/unlock it on the latch side).

Easily fixed by using a graphite lubricant in the lock – good as new after that! I’ve had this lock for a few weeks now and so far so good–much better than the previous one I bought (Keystone Die Cast Metal Key Lockable Latch) that stopped working 2 days after installing.

This is a well made lock and feels more secure than the lock I had to return. Hopefully it lasts a good while.

I purchased this lock for my new installed privacy fence in May. The lock was installed and worked great for the past month. Afte about a month it started sticking and the latch would get loose. I started to notice a few of the screws were loose so we tighted then.

About 3 times after the third time the button started sticking. Now we are forced to reach around the gate to open it because the latch is now the only way to open the gate. So disappointed. I was really rooting for this product.

The first month i was really bragging to my neighbors about it now its just.

Although I know a determined burglar can get in anywhere, this sturdy little devil would make it a very time consuming and almost impossible job. Just installed this on my backyard workshop and am pleased both with its construction and not having to bother with another key on my keyring.

Combi Bolt is a terrific product. It is strong, the dial is easy to turn, and whatever you have locked up behind it will be secure. So happy I bought this product would highly recommend it

There are several variants, a 50mm and 70mm deep barrels and locking from one or both sides. Typically, my two gates are neither 50 nor 70mm thick. they are 55mm so in order to get the front of the barrel to lie flush with the gate face the choice was to rebate the lock by 5mm or pack it by 15mm.

For the first gate I chose the rebate option but it was more bother than it was worth so the next one will be packed. (I’m only a DIYer not a tradesman) I was really impressed by the quality and solidity.

I had expected a gate lock at that price to be a bit flakey but its great. The instructions are to use a 26mm auger to drill the hole for the barrel but my calipers measured it at 26. 2mm so not sure how tight it might be.

Fortunately I have a clever adjustable ‘auger’ and experimented on some scrap to get a good fit. You need to be very careful to drill the hole at exactly 90 degrees both vertically and horizontally to the gate face otherwise the lock plate won’t lie flush.

The little brass cover fits neatly over the barrel at the front and gives a professional looking finish. The five included keys seem as secure as needed for a garden gate. Not sure if there is a ‘keyed alike’ option but that would be helpful for more than one lock.

Having been installed on my back gate for a little over one month, there are rust marks on the square bolt. Since this part is stainless, the rust must be coming from the inside of the black part which holds the sliding bolt – I’m guessing powder coated mild steel where the powder coating is wearing off due to the sliding of the throw bolt.

A shame the whole thing is not stainless but I guess they don’t make things like they used to. A Shame, as otherwise the bolt is strong and sturdy. Therefore, it looses two stars for me – considering its price is should all be stainless.

Strong and rubust. Fairly easy to fit to the back door on workshop. Recommends using 26mm drill for hole for barrel (used new 26mm Forster bit) however still not big enough had to make hole wider with sanding so barrel went in.

I would recommend at least 27 mm wood bit. Used through bolts for lock body rather than the screws provided. Oh the stainless screws provided need a Philips no3 driver bit. Over all very happy!.

This was the third different padlock I tried and they do say third time lucky, Its perfect for my needs and very easy to use.

Thought it was a metal case but its cheap plastic and to add salt to my woumd i picked it open in 5 seconds, not a great product at all.

Recommend, value, quality. Yes or No. Nothing in between. How about Neutral ? This is gate lock number three. The original finally quit after 10 faithful years. Replacement number one lasted about two years.

Now installed replacement number two. Hope to get more than two years. Recommend because there is no alternate. Value : expensive, but there is no alternate. Quality : feels heavy in hand, well built.

I just hope the insides hold up longer than two years. I would like to see a “rebuild kit” since the only delicate part is the electromagnet.

working fine after 5 years. very heavy duty as a gadget, and quite secure as a lock. you must protect the cable from snagging and from puppies and other little varmints

The Product installed easily, and works perfectly. I like the functionality added by the spring. It keeps the latch from rebounding, yet it does not add noticable resistance to the strike when it hits.

I expect many good years of service by this.

I bought this to put on someone else’s gate. The numbers on the tumbler are so faint I decided to use it on my gate. The latch itself is aligned perfectly, but it opens and shuts like it isn’t. The latch and the tumblers are the reason I am changing locks again.

Good product but had installation issues as it wouldn’t scramble when in situ so i removed it. I ended up cutting the wire and regretted it as i couldn’t thread it through the tiny hole. I

Lock Both Sides is ingenious and the best gate lock I’ve come across. Really excellent materials and fantastic, friendly service. In over 30 years of fencing G&G are by far the best for materials. Wouldn’t go anywhere else again.

Heavy duty works fine and screws are realkyheavu duty too. Oiled it well and vaselined just in case but very pleased. Can now use the gate to exit through as I have a secure heavy duty lockable gate.

Slow delivery but very solid construction. It works fantastic. The instructions were VERY EASY. It even comes with a sticker template to make the installation fantastic. It took me about 10 minutes total.

The 2 inch cylinder is truly 2 inches from the back of the black plate. My door was 2-1/8 thick so its a hair short for my door, but still works great.

Excellent solution for woodshop exterior pocket door. Allows me to have the bolt drop down into the top of the door to secure it. (Most people seem to use it to have a bolt lock on a thick fence door.

Solid product. Perfect. You get four keys and the drill bit you need to cut out the cylinder hole. Gave to find out how easy it is to get the keys copied, but this is exactly what I needed. I put some bike grease on it to protect it.

As advertised. great product. Doesn’t require a 5/8” drill bit as the instructions state which can run you around $60 for the bit. You can get away with using a 1/2” bit that typically comes standard in smaller drill bit sets.

All my neighbours and friends have commented on how much they like them and are planning to purchase. Unfortunately a bit overpriced as I found it for significantly cheaper per unit at a competitor, so I’ve told them to shop around, but too late for me as I’ve already installed them.

Works as advertised although it can be a little glitchy with locking/unlocking. I think to be fair this may be due to the size of the hole I put in the post for the locking bar which may be ever so slightly too small.

Pretty easy to mount, does the job but the lock is very basic and would not hold off any half decent lockpicking attack. Still it is a deterrent as the back gate to our yard is locked, which was the intent.

The first time I have it installed, the key didn’t work. Then I contacted Barrette staff, got a free replacement, followed instructions in a YouTube video, the latch works. The trick seems to be cutting the push rod and lock rod precisely according to your fence post size.
