20 Best Outdoor Mats For Dogs (2022 Updated)

This mat is a total game changer. We have 2 dogs, a home daycare with 5 kids in and out in the mud, snow and slush. This mat absorbs 95% of the mess. I was wiping up muddy foot prints what felt like 100 times a day.

I am now just lifting the mat at night to shake out the salt and everything that’s trapped in it and hanging it to dry, then giving the floor a quick wipe. When I first saw the price tag on the mat, I thought it was ridiculous, but then I decided to give it a try.

It is worth every penny!.

My cats are indoor outdoor cats and always track in either muddy paws or leaves on their fur. So I thought these mats would be great for the front door and by the cat door. Well for starters the cats don’t like the texture on their paws so they step or jump over the rug.

I’m new at having cats as I’ve been a dog owner for 16 years. Apparently very different as dogs are more accepting of things like this. My one kitty who likes pee pads to do her business instead of the litter box has discovered doing her thing on these rugs is like grass outside.

I discovered this only by smelling the stink when I was smoothing out the rug which had been scrubbed up by her or opening the door. Washing them has been a challenge to get the pee smell out and I wash them alone and hang outside to dry.

Especially after it smells like pee the other cats don’t want to step on it. The rugs are very absorbent. They durable and well made but don’t think it is a success on what I purchased them for. Sigh.

I’m thinking of taking one to work to place at the door inside at my office to prevent humans from tracking things inside and they’ll have to ignore the giant paw print on it or think I have an invisible dog at the office.

MUST HAVE for dog owners! We have 3 dogs and two of them are basset hounds with big old paws. I’ve probably gone through 20 different kinds of throw rugs – really – until I finally broke down and paid the extra for the Dirty Dog mat, SO GLAD I DID! It really works! Works well for my husbands boots after he comes in from the farm too.

We placed this on our back deck, to help our pups wipe their feet before heading into the house. At the first rain, the doormat became saturated with water, and still hasn’t dried. So rather than the doormat helping to clean the dogs’ feet, it makes them wet and muddy.

We are planning to throw it away because it’s so useless. Also discolored almost immediately. Do not recommend.

The mat looked cute until the first rain. After it got wet it became discolored and never returned to its original appearance. It has now been relegated to the side garage door. Also, the dogs don’t like to walk on it.

This doormat is fantastic and fun! Nice sturdy material and the design stays on. It has been on my porch for months in everything from rain to intense sun / heat and it still looks new.

This is a very cute rug and bigger than your average welcome coir mat. It looks very nice and welcoming. It’s very heavy and nice and think so it will last for a while. Also, because it’s not painted, it will look nice longer.

This is a great mat at a great price! I just wish there was an in between size. I have a 26lb. French bulldog and was hoping the S/M would fit her ok but it’s just a bit too small, and the next size up is just too big.

Too bad! The silver thermal reflective layer on top is such a great idea for both sun and/ or cold weather and is actually soft! It’s definitely not water bottle size though, unless perhaps you had a compression sack.

But great for car camping/ and travel or any outdoor time with your dog. Don’t hesitate to try this, if one of the sizes works for you!.

Super high quality and my dog loves it! But there are a couple of things you may need to be aware of: 1. The cover can get smelly after a while if used as bedding. I sewed a cover case (similar to a pillowcase) so that the mat wouldn’t be in direct contact with my dogs’ fur, this seems to do the work.

2. I don’t see how it can keep cool without putting it in the fridge. The description says there’s no need to cool it first, but it will stay at room temperature if you don’t. I put it 30 min in the freezer before bedtime and my dog sleeps through the night.

In the morning, the mat is warm from my dog’s body temperature – which is normal. So this is why it’s only reasonable to cool it down before use. 3. there’s a considerable difference between the medium and large size.

Unless your dog is a miniature poodle, I recommend going for the large one. I got the large one and it’s slightly bigger than our medium size crate.

I have a 12 year old British Bulldog and keeping her cool in this heatwave is imperative. This product is cool to the touch and she finds it very comfortable. We only use it at night and found that it was only effective for a few hours.

Fortunately I had bought a larger size than needed which meant there was plenty of spare space either side of her. I found that by using a small fan (which would have been useless on its own) and directing it towards the mat itself this kept the mat at a nice cool temperature and she was able to sleep through the whole night without any distress.

During the day we have several large fans in use and she is fine. I realise that this a belt-and braces approach but I cannot think of any single product which would do the job so successfully on its own, barring air-con of course.

My Labrador runs warm. He’s got a really thick coat, and he hates being too warm. Cold winter days and icy cold water are his favourite things. So. how to help keep him cool inside the house when it’s a bit warm for him.

One of these. In his crate. Or on the laundry floor. Fortunately he’s not really expressed much of a desire to chew it. But it’s been going months now. And still does it’s thing. Amazing.

I’m pleased with the Slumber Pet Mega Ruffs Pet Crate Mat – Brown. It fit perfectly in my Pet Carrier I got roughly 13 yrs. ago. I lent it to someone 5 yrs. ago and when I got my carrier back the mat that came with my carrier didn’t come back with it.

I needed a new mat so I could use my carrier for taking in my newest baby to the vet so she could be spade. She needed a comfortable ride to and from the vet’s office. Our dog Kane, is a 75lb chewer and has destroyed numerous beds over the years so I had my doubts when I ordered this bed. The bed arrived within a few days and I was pleasantly surprised with the fabric.

It is almost like a canvas material. There is velcro on the bottom side which keeps the comfy mattress securely locked in the cover. It took a few tries to entice Kane to lie down on it, but now it is his favorite spot.

It’s been 5 days and he hasn’t even tried to chew it!.

Love these – our puppy wanted to paw and shred anything that had a soft fuzzy lining – like sherpa or fleece. These are great – she seems to like them and she doesn’t paw at it as much. They wash nicely – cold, gentile cycle.

Lie flat to dry – only down side – takes awhile to dry. Have small and medium for a couple of crates and have another one to leave lay in the house – and she likes to relax on it.

This mat makes pet feeding so easy. Pick it up, brush off dry food or wipe off wet food, fill the dishes, DONE! No cleaning the floor or wiping up spills. The one inch deep tray does not interfere with my cats’ ability to eat or drink, but it is deep enough to prevent spills onto the floor.

Sturdy enough to carry to the counter to load with their favorites and back to the floor for feeding. The 4 flat rubber feet keep the tray in place while the cats are eating. They each have their own corner which accommodates their individual bowl perfectly.

I know it is really made for dogs, but the cats are enjoying it so much. And so am I!!!.

I saw this in a friends house and thought what a clever idea. The mat easily holds a water and food bowl and there is room for another bowl/plate. This wipes down very easily. The edge is just high enough to save the water and food from spilling onto the floor and easy enough for smaller dogs to step over it.

I didn’t remember if I had left a review on this prior to now -if I did, I felt the need to update my review. I LOVE THIS ITEM! This keeps my floor clean from the doggie spills and messes, and it is so easy to clean.

Prior reviews mention the difficulty in removing the tag – it was initially hard to remove but with soap and water and a little scraping, I got it off totally. I definitely recommend this item!.

I am sorry to rate this one so low. This was the second rug of the same design I have purchased. The first one I bought several years ago and it was wonderful! When my first one began to wear out, I loved it so much that I bought a second one.

BUT, this one was poorly produced and the image of the dog is not at all like the first one, which is pictured. The current dog looks more like an otter or sea lion than a dog and is not a black lab.

I will be returning it, sadly. Note, I have also recently bought two other rugs with Liora Manne designs, and those two are just fine. I hope they correct the poor production of this one, because it is a favorite! :(.

I have a black golden doodle and a little teardrops camper. When I saw this rug I knew it had to be mine. It’s nice and thick, and very well made! I’m so glad I purchased this rug!

I bought this rug to put by the changing table in our baby’s vintage camping themed nursery. It is just perfect, and what makes it even better than the photos on the website is that the snowcapped mountains and the hubcaps have sparkly thread woven in with the white! I just love it, and squealed with delight when I opened the box! Bonus, it is easy to clean: you can either machine wash it or take it outside and spray it off with a hose.

i was a bit disappointed with the border bleeding as it does make it look dirty and worn. otherwise it was as pictured and stays where I put it.

Am using this for my dogs’ water and food bowls. Perfect size and easy to clean. Appropriate as they are totally spoiled Bichons.

I have an 8 pound Yorkie puppy who kept chewing up his other beds. Though he is small, he is quite the destroyer of all things! This bed has been comfortable for him, but also indestructible! There is no zipper for him to tear off and the material is strong enough to withstand his digging.

Big dogs in wet climate that are in and out of house. Have four of the individual dog dry “towels”and now this big one for the front door. Dogs love it, even to sleep on and I love that it keeps the rest of the floors clean.

Wonderful to take to shows and to travel as it’s easy to carry as a comfy bed of their own. Getting another. Really appreciate the plain beige as it works anywhere in home. Please make more “plain” colors.

My dog and I are very happy with the mat. She loves the texture and lies down on it all the time. However, I washed it in cold water and then dried in dryer on medium heat which I normally use to dry towels that I include in the load.

After 1-2 washings, the non-skid backing is gone. The mat slides all over the place. I re-read the instructions and it does say low heat. Wondering how medium heat ruined the backing so quickly. I have a “smart” dryer that does not overdry.

I would imagine many people dry towels and mats on medium heat, so make sure you read the washing instructions carefully.

We live in a Colorado mountain town, where snow cover typically lasts from November to late May. Our Bichon comes in bearing a collection of little snowballs plastered to his legs, which melt all over our floor.

I’m so thrilled to have found this! It’s too thick for the unusually low clearance of our door, but we’ve put it to the side and I’m training him to sit on it as soon as he comes in, while I dry him off.

Next purchase, the Soggy Doggy drying towel! Btw. the doormat received our dog’s stamp of approval, too: he stretched out on it as soon as I put it down! A product that has exceeded our expectations and is worth every penny!.

Disappointed in the product. The color was not as pictured / described but a bright orange / tan color. There is already a pull in the rug after a couple of weeks of use. It is like an old fashioned chenille bathroom rug only with a contrasting dog bone graphic added.

Cute name / marketing. But this is the first product from Chewy that I have been disappointed in so am not a lost customer!.

The absorption factor is there, the cuteness factor is there, but this mat can’t stay in place AT ALL. I spend more time putting it back in place or straightening it out than I ever care to do in a day.

I got two of them and they are the most stressful part of my day every day. I thought the wet muddy feet were annoying, now I have wet muddy feet and a scrunchy rug with dirt that flys out of it.

I already have a couple of the dirt trapper mats at each door to help with grubby paws and boots. I thought I’d try this feeding mat too. It’s the same great material and quality so it’s robust and cleans very easily.

The blue/grey colour is also lovely. The raised paw prints and bones are a fun touch which still look great in my kitchen/sunroom. It also has the same backing as the big mats so this doesn’t slide around.

This might cost more than your run of the mill feeding mat but I think it’s worth it for the quality.

I bought this for my 10 week old lab puppy to stand on while she was eating. Before the mat her rear legs would slide outwards on the tile floor while she eating. Now she can eat without sliding around.

Also the mat traps any spills. Excellent product.

Aside from being a very messy drinker, our Rottweiler loves to play in her water dish. We tried several other types of rugs that just ended being a soggy mess after a single day. Purchased a Water Trapper Mat out of desperation, and it REALLY WORKS as advertised.

Lighthearted yoga dogs rug makes me smile whenever I step on it. No binding on edges. My pup keeps trying to pull the thread loops, so I cannot speak to it’s durability.

I got the large size in blue for my 50-lb dog. The towel rug is exactly as described, thick and ridiculously soft, more so than other similar shammy towels I’ve seen. My dog loves soft things and immediately took to it as a bed.

He still chooses it to nap on daily and brings his chew toys with him! As a towel it’s also been great. It’s more absorbent than a regular towel so I can dry my dog more quickly after baths, rain, etc.

Came out of the washing machine still looking pristine (to be fair I’ve only washed it once so far, following the care tag). Hoping it will continue to hold up once winter starts and it starts seeing heavier use.

The price is definitely high compared to a regular towel, but considerably better than equivalent shammy sizes in pet stores, which are thinner, usually smaller, & rougher to boot. Happy to have bought this and my dog agrees with me! Honestly considering buying another one to keep in my car.

I ordered a charcoal one of these in the biggest size. Con first. The color is nothing like what you see in the picture. Honestly, I didn’t pay attention to it being charcoal much in the listing, as I assumed it would be a very dark grey close to black like what you see.

What you get is very much grey with a purple tint as some greys will do. By color, if that’s important to you, I wouldn’t give this item higher than a 3 star. Pro. So light weight, feels like it would just slide all over but very much non slip on my smooth tile (being used a door mat), will be easy to wash.

Keeps the rest of my floor clean from my dogs wet feet in the winter. Love the product for what it is, 5 star. Average? 4 star.

We were amazed at this product. We have three German Shepherds and when they come in from a snowy day it is crazy. I used to dry them each with a towel and ended up with three soggy towels and half dried dogs.

A couple swipes with this towel and they are almost completely dry. It takes one swoop to get the snow off their back and it all sticks on the towel and doesn’t end up on the floor. It dries fast too.

We definitely will be getting a couple more. I bought the bigger one to put by their food bowls and water slobber. When we are done painting I will try it out. I have great expectations.

We bought this for an adult Indie (Indian Pariah) which is a medium size dog and we are mostly satisfied. The dog loves resting and sleeping on it. She accepted it the moment we unwrapped, almost like she knew it is meant for her.

She sleeps on it no matter where we lay it down, which is great because we can get her to move easily per our convenience. We have been using it for over a month now and it seems like a durable product for long term use.

One interesting side effect of the matte finish is that it helped us catch her (“in the act”) when our dog was trying to dig. We had her destroy many beds before during the midnight. The problem is that we could never catch her when she was doing it and indicate not to do it.

This bed makes a nice scratching noise, enough to wake us up, so I stopped her and told her “no” a couple of times at the right time and she hasn’t repeated it again. As the surface is water resistant, we just mop it (along with the floor) on a regular basis to keep it clean.

It is big enough for her most of the times, especially while resting and curling, but I sometimes find her head on the floor when she is fully stretched out so feel that it could have been slightly bigger.

This mat is fantastic for the dog crate as it is a wipe clean mat and very comfy for the dogs. Great quality product highly recommended. The only thing to mention is that if you are putting two dogs in the crate and want to take advantage of the crate divider you cannot use this mat and would need two separate mats, however, not a problem to me as I didn’t use the divider in the dog crate.

Would love to know if I could get two more of these. Really easy to clean. Light weight. Dries instantly
