20 Best Outdoor Sandals For Women (2022 Updated)

I’ve had my share of hiking sandals but none felt like sandals, just heavy vented shoes. I think my problem was buying hiking sandals from hiking shoe companies and not looking at sandal companies for hiking sandals.

My last pair (Keen), trapped rocks in the sandals, the sandals was so difficult to put on that I would suffer with the rocks under my foot rather than try to remove the sandals and put them back on. Most of my sandals have last 2-3 hikes before I gave up on them.

Not this Teva. I’ve worn the Hurricane XLT2 Teva on 4 hikes already and I’ve had zero issues. They feel like sandals and the sole has plenty of support and protection from the terrain. I’ve yet to stub my toe which was a big concern.

I’m in between sizes so got a size above per recommendation. When I got the sandals I was really worried it was too big but with three adjustable straps, it was never an issue. I slid my foot as far forward as possible and strapped down the heel strap so my foot wouldn’t slide and it hasn’t.

Another concern was the plastic triangle holding the straps was hitting a knuckle when I tried it on. But once on the trail it wasn’t an issue and I totally forgot about it. I’m really happy with this purchase.

I had been looking at this sandals for some time but they always sold out. If this one ever ware out, I’ll purchase the exact same one. No more shopping around.

It’s a shame – this product would easily be 5 stars if you could only adjust the front strap. Really poor design flaw. I guess I have “thin” feet up front because there’s about half an inch of space between my skin and the front strap (and I’m a 6′, 240lb weightlifter for context).

I saw another review say that the pre-adjusted strap is too tight. I understand that the single ankle strap is appealing for easy on-and-off but this is definitely at the expense of poor fit for many foot types.

I travel to Maine a lot and wouldn’t be able to wear these in the rocky water nor on light, rocky trails. With all of the extra space flopping around up front I would likely catch the front material on a rock and trip, and that’s what I bought these for, unfortunately.

I love TEVA’s products and this is a major miss! I would definitely recommend trying these on in person before ordering online. Bummer.

I love my Tevas. I am sorry to say, though, that the Velcro straps wear out and become unusable long before the sandal does. THe ends of the hook part of velcro break off. The hook and fiber parts both are magnets for all sorts of detritus: cat hair, bits of of wool from socks, grass seeds, fibers, etc.

It jams up the hook parts, making it not ‘hooky’ anymore. You can’t clean the velcro. Third problem is the cheap seam attaching the velcro to the strap is one light, cheap thread. It breaks easily and then the velcro separates from the strap.

The adhesive used to attach the velcro to the strap loosens up or breaks, making the velcro strap come off the strap. The glue used on the velcro is one or two drops, certainly not enough, or not good enough, to maintain the adhesion to the strap.

All in all, the velcro strap is pretty much useless. You should use a thread through buckle instead of velcro. because the velcro creates too many problems, I hesitate to recommend the Teva to a friend.

I had to return mine, BUT my feet are quite irregular and it’s not the shoe that is the issue. That said, my older sister bought the same pair and I haven’t seen her in any other sandal since she got them.

Here is her review: They are leather, so not really meant to use in water, but they are durable and dry without issue if using them around water or wet terrain. She uses them everyday, but also hikes in them and found them to be perfect at a music festival recently.

The venue in a step hill and the terrain is grassy but quite rough and uneven. I wore a closed toe hiking shoe but she said these were perfect! She is a size 7. 5M (US) and the 38 is perfect. They have three adjustable Velcro straps so if you are a half size, size up rather than down.

You can adjust them easily so they won’t be too big. Wear them around and give them a few wears to adjust into your perfect fit before doing a full day of walking or hiking. They aren’t like a Birkenstock that takes a lot of time to wear in, but definitely wear them around before your all day trek down the Amalfi Coast or a 12 hour day at Disney.

These Yak Leather Ecco Upcycled offroad leather sandals are Limited Editions and the leather is so soft and beautiful- the entire shoe is so comfortable immediately upon putting it on (no break in required) and fit my wide feet perfectly- size 39 – I am thinking they seem to be made a little wider than previous years Ecco’s which I could not wear as they were too narrow and not comfy.

I am 70 and this shoe is perfect with great traction for all floor surfaces. I am in love with the color Champ! I have also ordered this shoe in most of the other colors. When was the last time you purchased shoes that the type of leather used was lightly embossed on the heel strap? With so many shoes and garments being made with plastic these days this shoe is a real winner! Yes, you really want to try this shoe while it is available.

Your feet will thank you.

Posting this to keep others from making the same mistake I did. I usually get a new pair of Yucatan sandals for daily wear every other year. They hold up well and last forever. It was time for a new pair and I was waiting for the model in a shade of blue.

Thought this was it, but disappointed. The 2. 0 style does not fit my foot the same and rubs across my toes. Although the picture on line is very blue it is more of a silvery color. If you are thinking of purchasing and want a sandal like your old Yucatan, compare the pictures for the original and the 2.

0 model and be sure you are ordering what you really want. I will return my order of the 2. 0.

I got these last minute at REI during a recent vacation when I spontaneously went rafting but didn’t have my Chacos. These Tevas are terrible. The bed is very thin and flimsy. It seemed like I couldn’t get the right tension on the straps.

The strap was either too tight or too loose. If the front strap was even slightly too tight, the plastic circle piece on the outside pinched my foot. If the strap was too loose, my foot slid each step and the front of the shoe kept getting caught on the ground, causing me to trip.

These are ok for some light walking on flat, even ground, and not for anything more strenuous. I wore them for a day when I walked 10 miles (relatively flat) and got a bad blister on the sole of my foot.

I would not recommend these, would consider Chacos instead.

These sandals couldn’t be more comfortable considering the multiple medical issues of my feet. The additional arch support in the Verra style is perfect; the Shoc Pad heel cushions absorb the impact of each step; and the front straps don’t cramp or pinch my toes.

Shortly after purchasing my first pair of the Verra style in black, I bought a pair of the blue ones. When initially trying them on, I thought the new blue ones fit exactly the same as the black ones I have been wearing for a couple of weeks, but because of someone’s 1-star review indicating that the blue/green (Arona Sagebrush) color was a full ½ size smaller than the black ones, I tried the blue ones on again, and indeed they are the same exact fit.

To be 100% sure, however, I conducted a couple of experiments. First, I took the left-foot shoe of my black pair and put it side-by-side on a level surface with the left shoe of the blue pair, placing the left black shoe to the right of the blue left shoe, and sure enough the black one visually appeared longer.

Then I reversed the two left shoes, placing the left black shoe to the left of the blue one, and then the blue shoe looked longer. No explanation for this phenomenon, but I could understand what that reviewer was referring to.

Since this seemed inconclusive after doing a second comparison using the black and blue right-foot shoes, I did one last test by using a lined legal pad, marking a couple of spots on the paper to be sure that the shoes would be placed exactly the same, and also put a metal ruler on a straight line near the bottom of the pad to ensure they were both measured from the exact same place, then drew a pencil outline of the black shoe and then the blue shoe.

The black shoe and the blue shoe measured exactly the same! They feel so awesome, even when worn all day long. The blue color is exactly as pictured online. They are so pretty, but more importantly, so comfortable!.

I’ve had these shoes for 6 years so this is a seasoned review. PROS – comfort – started off super cushy. Loved that I had a sturdy sandal to go hiking with or go in water and not worry they would slip off.

CONS – After so many years the cush isn’t so cushy, its aged and is kinda hard now. In the beginning I had to break in the shoe and my foot skin needed to toughen up. The suede little flaps under the straps are meant to protect your foot, but they actually just get pushed out of place during the walking/hiking leaving your foot exposed to the strap which can be a little rough & then painful on the sore red skin it’s created.

Once I wore these enough the skin on the top of my foot toughened and got used to it. SIZE – I’m a 7. 5, got the 7s as recommended, they fit but not perfectly, my heel is too close to the back edge of the shoe, 8s would have been too big.

THE FOOT SLUDGE – The grooves on the shoe also do catch a lot of dirt as other reviews mentioned. I would always have “foot sludge” on the bottom of my foot & shoe that I’d need to clean off after every wear, it also got stinky, and I don’t even have smelly feet.

Overall would give a 3. 5 start rating. Fills a need but could be better.

I was very hesitant to spend the money on these, I figured they would wear out quickly and not be very durable (I go through shoes and boots insanely quick), but boy am I glad I made that purchase! I have been absolutely blown away by these for the past 3 years.

Yes, I’ve been somehow wearing the same pair for 3 years and they’re only just now starting to get a bit slick on the bottom from wearing the tread down. They are more comfortable than any shoe or hiking boot I’ve ever had, I wear them any time I can as long as it’s not too cold out.

I had been planning to buy Chacos because, I don’t know, that seemed like the thing to do, I thought Chacos looked cool. But these Tevas are WAY more comfortable and usable. Chacos are so stiff and clunky I’d never be able to hike in them the way I have in these.

I can’t believe they haven’t broken or worn out after all the use. I’ll absolutely get another pair once these need replacing, I wouldn’t dream of trying anything else. I think they run true to size, or even are a bit big (at least the version of them 3 years ago).

I always have thought these weren’t as comfortable as everyone says they are, I had a pair of the regular footbed ones with the double strap style toe strap in size 5. I always thought they felt restricting, the straps never felt long enough to adjust properly and the toe strap bothered me especially since you can’t do socks! the 6 at the time felt too big.

maybe they’ve updated the sizing but I got a 6 in these and between the bigger size, less straps and open toe and perhaps also the cloud footbed, these are much much more comfortable. that said I still find the gridline style footbed a little irritating and uncomfortable and I don’t really get the point of them, they never seem to wear down either with break in (I’ve had my other pair for years but I’ll see how these do).

I think they would get 5 stars if it wasn’t a textured footbed and just contoured the natural foot shape. I got the bronze/pink pattern and I love the color / suits my style. I wear a women’s regular width US 5-6.

5 / EU 36-37. 5, depending on the shoe and the 6 are good in these.

Finally decided to buy a new pair of sandals after nursing along my falling-apart old Tevas for over ten years. I’d heard a lot of people rave about Chacos and decided to give them a try, especially since Teva no longer seems to make the same model of sandal I had before (booo).

There’s a lot to like: the buckle/strap tightening method doesn’t wear out over time like velcro, the straps are adjustable, the footbed seems very durable and has arch support, and the company will repair them for you so you don’t have to keep rubber-cementing the soles back on yourself or buy a new pair.

Alas, for me they were simply unwearable. My feet are on the narrower side, and although the heel of the sandal is highly contoured, it was very loose on me. Combined with how heavy the footbed is, this made it move around a lot while walking.

I felt like I had to keep the straps pretty tight to keep the soles from flopping around on my feet, which made it really hard to get out the pebbles that inevitably make their way in, and difficult to get the sandals on and off.

The other major problem was the strap across the instep. The way it cuts across my foot makes it move a lot when I walk, so that it rubs A LOT. I’m used to sandals needing a break-in period – those old trusty Tevas of mine gave me gnarly blisters the first time I wore them – so at first I figured they just needed some time.

However, the problem did not get better. After wearing them on a camping weekend where they rubbed off a huge patch of skin under the strap, I had enough. I’m pretty bummed that these didn’t work out – as I said before, there’s a lot I like about them in theory, but in practice they were just too uncomfortable for me.

I just love everything about these sandals. The leather is soft even on the first day wearing them to work all day. I have ordered other similar sandals but they were cloth material. I loved the style of the matetial but they did fray.

I am so happy to have them in leather and the green color is great!.

I’m a shoeahlolic. These are on my top 5 most comfortable, shock absorbent, cute shoes list. I hope these last for a bit because I only bought a pair of brown and black. I love them so much I feel like is good enough have bought at least 3 of the same size and colors!.

I always order these when I see them. I love the foot bed as I’m flat footed. I usually order the aerothodics, they have very high arches for support, but these will do. They’re really awesome and my knees don’t hurt from my flat feet not being supported.

I bought these sandals to replace an old pair of Columbia sandals that I use to walk the dogs. These are cute, but as another reviewer said (& I didn’t listen to), these are very lightweight but also foam on the bottom.

They’re not sturdy enough for me to walk on uneven surfaces (the grass) and I think they’d be best to wear on a boat. Not sure about walking on rocks, if going into and out of the water (kayaking or whitewater rafting).

I don’t think I’d bother with these if I was doing either, having to walk down embankments & sometimes sharp rocks. The straps also didn’t hold the sandal on my foot. I felt like between the super light sandal & the too-stretchy bungee like backing, that I was walking out of the sandal.

The top of the sandal, for the toes, also had a wide size, which was a little weird to try walking with. I had to return.

I bought a size smaller because the product description says “runs large, consider sizing down. ” They were very tight. I called to see what the best exchange method would be. The agent told me to just reorder, then send the smalls back for a refund.

I bought my regular size. still too tight. Also, sent the first pair back, and they refuse to give me a refund, only store credit, and only online. I now have a pair of shoes and a store credit I can’t use.

Additionally, I only ordered the shoes in the first place because I sent $300 coat in to Columbia for a zipper repair, they didn’t fix the zipper, refuse to send the coat back so I can ger it fixed elsewhere, and issued me a $126 store credit.

I have flat feet so it is hard for me to find comfy shoes. I was looking for a pair for beach, pool trips. This is pretty light, and easy to walk through sand, and still nice enough to restaurants or ice cream shop or boutiques.

However, not sure whether it is my feet or the make of the shoes, where the strips hit my pinkie toe, feels uncomfortable if wearing for a long time. The straps at the back of heel are adjustable to a certain length but still a nice touch.

Overall I am still pretty happy with it and will keep it, though not for long term walking or hiking. Runs large so I would definitely size down, I usually wear 61/2 or 7, got 6 and still looks big on me.

I have long been an advocate of minimalist shoes–zero drop, flexible, minimal support. But, recently I started experiencing plantar fasciitis, a painful heel condition. I was taking a trip and could tell the thin sole was not going to work for me as I walked any distance.

I found the cushier sole much more comfortable for me, and I wore them in and out of the salt water and canoe daily. Once on a long walk through a sandy area, I developed a blister with the sand rubbing between my foot and the strap, but that would probably happen with any sandal.

And they did develop a pretty bad odor at times. Fortunately, they were easy to wash and dried relatively quickly, so that was an easy fix. I still believe in the more “natural” shoe concept, but for now, this shoe has worked well for me.

I also like the extreme flexibility of having three adjustable straps that the velcro then firmly holds in place.

I picked up these sandals to serve as my water shoes on a recent trip canoeing in the Boundary Waters. I was nervous about their ability to workout for portaging the canoe, but another camper who had done it before assured me it would be fine.

And wouldn’t you know it, it was! I didn’t buy these in advance enough to fully get used to where the straps land, but despite that (and after spending a while adjusting them), I only got a couple small blisters right at the end of the trip.

This was with constantly getting in and out of water and hiking bags or canoes through portages. I never felt like my feet got specifically tired because of my shoes. They stayed decently anchored even when trying to take big steps in water, or when my feet got stuck in deep mud.

They felt decently secure over wet surfaces and rocks (I didn’t slip any more than anyone else, at least. ) I’m looking forward to continuing to use these a lot at home as they look pretty nice, and they’ll probably be my go-to water shoes for most things going forward.

I have never had a Teva sandal. Was looking for something semi-sporty but that could also be worn with my linen summer dresses. These are incredibly comfortable! Hiked in them the first day on some sandy terrain, and they were secure and cushy.

Also good for just walking on sidewalks. There is an elastic piece on the strap by the toes that makes these fit my thin, narrow foot well without having to pull the Velcro strap super tight and have it hanging over the side.

True to size — I wear a 9 in almost every brand. Would love another pair — can’t recommend them enough for being in your feet all day in the heat.

Looking for a good walking sandal that could take grass and trail as well as sidewalk. Turned out these are not what I am looking for. While they are okay in appearance, the back of the band that goes on the heel is way too bulky and uncomfortable.

The real problem though, is the straps that should be near your toes are nowhere near your toes. These leave the entire front of your foot exposed completely and that is an incredibly ugly look and does nothing to keep your foot from moving around.

Returning these sandals.

Wow these sandals excelled beyond my expectations. This is the first time I have purchased Teva sandals and I can confirm that these fit beautifully due to the velcro straps and the wide fit. I have bunions hence I need to buy wide fit shoes and these offer customisation plus is wide enough underfoot.

What’s more they are stylish looking (lovely colour combo) and so lightweight that I don’t feel like I am wearing any footwear. And they are waterproof/washable/quick drying etc. For reference my foot measures 23.

People wrote good review for it but it sadly didn’t fit my feet. I guess my feet are too wide (it is too tight) and the solo looks like it has good support but it ended up giving me foot pain after each wear (of 3 times).

Problem is it looks nice and comfy an when tired on it felt okay till I walked around in it for a few hours. But even putting it on was feeling tight, so end of day I had strain feet bottoms and lack of blood flow (red).

Good if you have narrow and good arched feet and Idk well lined toes. Sadly I throw the box out : (.

I’m really lazy about leaving product reviews, but I HAVE to gush about these shoes! Without breaking them in first (a cardinal sin), I wore them daily on a week-long hiking trip, and they were amazing – gripped the rocks, quick dry, no rubbing, and incredibly comfortable.

Did not notice any odor. Plus, on trails with sand or fine rocks, very little worked their way into the sandal. I can wear these when on my feet all day with no pain. Bought the Brindle/Shitake color in size 10; I wear anything from 9.

5 to 11. My foot is rather narrow, but these fit with no issues. The color goes great with anything, and I love the covered toe. These are my go-to active sandals.

I purchased the sandal for my 10 year old daughter. She is a size 4 in big kids, and a size 6 in keen’s women sandals seem to be the right size for her. So it might run 1/2 a size small. However, this specific sandal does not have an opening with a Velcro; the Velcro is just for extra tightening.

My daughter was frustrated with putting the sandal on. She has normal width feet. Having said all that, this sandal would be great for those who have narrow feet, and who prefer a pull on sandal. Shipment was quick, and the return process was easy and smooth.

I usually love everything I purchase from Greater Good, but I have to say I was disappointed with this purchase. The reviews for these sandals was great, so I bought them based on that. They are made well, not cheap, but I found them to not be very comfortable.

I do have a feet problem, stemming from scoliosis, so it’s probably just me. Other than that, they are really cute, cheerful and all around well made! I LOVE Greater Good and usually buy from their Animal,Rescue Site and definitely will continue to do so.

I have been wearing slippers for over a year now because my feet swell so much. I simply could not find shoes that would fit my feet when they were swollen. When I read many reviews that these shoes had long straps I decided to give them a try.

They are fantastic shoes. FINALLY I have summer shoes again and do not have to wear slippers. I bought two pair and the price was great. Cannot say enough about these shoes. I actually feel like a woman again and not an old lady, even though I am 76, walking around in slippers.

These are really comfortable & I wore them half of last summer. I got lots of compliments, however they are not for everyday wear. The fabric stretches fairly easily forcing adjustment to the Velcro straps until most of the strap is dragging on the ground.

Also, I walked onto a sharp stick & it went right thru to my foot. They’re cute & comfortable, definitely not every day wear if you want them for a longer period of tim.

Very comfy though a little too closed in to feel like a sandal. Has done what I wanted and helped me from tripping up at the toe rather than traditional open toe sandal when woodland walking with the dogs.

Has 2 toggles on the top of shoe, has no purpose and rattles when walking. One of the toggles has already lost it rounded end.

I’m onto my second pair of these, only because I wanted a change of colour. I have small narrow feet and find the straps very comfortable. I’ve literally walked for miles in them and they have been very comfortable with no signs of friction anywhere.

I’ll definitely buy again.

I purchased my 1st pair of Merrell slide sandals quite a few years ago now. Unfortunately, that style was discontinued so I tried a new style. That 1st pair lasted 2 years of continuous wear. The last 3 years they haven’t been as good a quality as they used to be, as I’ve worn them the same as the 1st pair but have needed to purchase new ones because these will wear out completely by the end of the summer.

I still find them to be super comfortable, have a good arch support and come in a bunch of great colours. I love my new blue District 3 Post in a pretty royal blue as I can wear them all the time and even go for small hikes in them.

I have yet to find a pair of sandals from another company that gives the arch support I need and do not get slippery when they are wet or when my feet get sweaty on those hot summer days. I will continue to buy Merrell slide sandals!.

I have been in love with Merrell, for hiking and everyday wear, since my very first pair for my problematic feet. This pair seemed to be identical to one I had purchased several years ago and still wear (but which is now severely showing it’s age), except for the welcome addition of a strap and clasp for tightening.

But, sadly, it is not the same. Looks the same, but the arch is not as supportive and footbed is not as comfortable and the sole is a bit flatter and without the shape that gave it extra support and extra grip.

Further, the insole is not as good, either. Since I donated several pairs and saved up rewards to buy it, I got it a good price, but even so I am still very disappointed. It seems Merrell has changed.

I bought this to wear all Summer. The pale teal/green is very pretty. The material fits my narrow foot & the incredibly soft foot bed has just enough arch support to make my legs & back pain free! I also love the Velcro piece in the strap/wrap to tighten IF I want the sandel to be a bit tighter.

Casual style looks great with pants, capris, skorts, & shorts. Thanks to Merrill for awesome design & thanks to DSW for selling them.
