20 Best Outdoor Solar Security Lights (2022 Updated)

Nowhere on the outside packaging does it say anything about low temperatures. They do not address this in the TV ads either. But once you open the packaging under installation please read this manual carefully before use and keep it for future use the last point they make is; “during cold winter months we recommend to remove the bionic spotlight to prevent damage to the unit due to frost & freezing temperatures”.

I never would have purchased this had that been indicated anywhere on the outside packaging. Especially since I live in a cold climate & purchased to deter criminal activity & drug dealing next to my home.

(Saint Paul, Minnesota police aren’t doing anything about it, even though I told them they could install a Camera on the side of my house using my electricity that I would never have to see the footing of.

0h well way to go keeping the crime rate up. ) Then in another section under arbitration agreements it clearly states that you have to take them to court to get your money back. As I had opened the packaging the store I purchased from said I could not return it even with a receipt and to take it up with the company.

I’m not sure about investing so much time into taking on a huge corporation over $20. But I do feel that it’s a buyer beware situation. So if you ever get frost or cold temperatures in your area I wouldn’t bother buying.

Really for the money these are among the best lights. Both in practicality and durability. I have 2 of these on my house in different locations, and just ordered one for my parents house. I like that the units are all-in-one.

A lot of other solar lights come with the solar panel separately attached with a small power lead running into the housing of the lights. I don’t like this design at all and find them too cheap. The design of the Bionic light means that the solar panel is attached directly to the lights housing, the mounting base is thick and high quality.

The light itself is very bright. There are multiple LED’s that account for this. Not sure what the output is in Lumens for sure but it’s bright at night. Moreso than my 1000L light built by another manufacturer.

When the light is off, at nighttime, a little red LED blinks warning on comers of said light. It looks like a security camera at night! I really like that since we live on a busy road it might help deter the bad guys.

Overall I am EXTREMELY satisfied with these bionic spotlights. Have had zero issues with them, just use care in their installation, maintain them well, and they’ll hold up just fine. I make sure to check my solar panels are clear of snow or debri often.

Can’t wait to install one for my folks they’re gonna love this little light. I’ve tried others, MANY others…none come close. I recommend these completely.

4 stars maybe bit generous but it does pretty much what is says. ( probably should be 3. 5 stars. Couple things I noticed. Says up to 25 ft. I believe that is a bit of a stretch and 20 ft max is more accurate.

Also another thing I noticed – after it turns off, it takes a good 10 – 15 sec before it will turn on again even if object is within range. It’s like the battery needs to charge back up momentarily or something so that is annoying.

Looks good, solar, and easy to install. I do like the blinky red light too. It could be a bit brighter but overall I would say it is worth the $20 spent. The smaller square style LED sensor lights are more sensitive, cheaper, and brighter but don’t look as professional imo.

Love these lights. I have this one mounted on the outside of my house so when a car drives up at night it automatically turns on. I also have a couple like this one that are attached to trees out in a path so when we take night walks they auto turn on, its so nice and the motion detection works great.

There are a few different models out there but this one i like the most, It powers with solar and you can point the lights in the directions you need them. This is very helpful when you have it on a corner of the house like we do.

LEDs are super bright and 500 lumens is the perfect amount without blinding everyone. Great product and i would highly recommend if you are looking for an easy, quick install and a light that performs well.

I’m glad I got to use this since it’s usually very dark living in Washington State because of how cloudy it gets at night so there’s no moon light. This works a whole lot better than I thought and installation was clear and easy.

I love the motion sensor and it brightens up the area quite nicely. It gives my backyard a safer feeling since there’s more light now at night. I love it and recommend this to every one who has a backyard.

This is a fantastic light that lights up your path. I installed this coming off my deck onto my walkway. There are two way to install this, you can use the stake that it comes with. Or, there is a bracket to mount to the house.

Both ways are great install options. It is a solar powered LED motion sensored light. Its lumens is comparable to a flood light. It’s a great product to have.

We live in the country where there are no street lights and we were in need of an outside light on the front corner of our house near the driveway that would light up when people arrived and would provide light for exiting their vehicle and for our sidewalk to the front door.

This light fit the bill! It was very simple to install and provides the light we needed. The motion detector/light sensor works great also. Everything we needed without me having to get in the attic and run an electrical circuit to the location.

This light works as advertised. Pretty easy to mount, depending on where you need to put the solar panel. I mounted the light on the side of the house, but in order to get enough sun, mounted the panel on the eaves above.

The only negative I have it that the mounting bracket for the light is pretty cheap, and if someone wanted to remove your light, all they have to do is lift it up and unhook it. It gives good light. I have mine set to only go on in the dark.

I purchased this same light two years ago, and it still works great, just a tad dimmer than the new one I just bought. I put up a shed recently, and wanted to put some sort of security light to catch any movement around there, this was again the perfect light.

Installation doesn’t get any easier that this set up. small bracket with 4 screws for the light base, and 3 screws for the solar panel.

This is a phenomenal solar powered flood light. It is extremely bright, which is exactly what I want and recommend for others. It is surprisingly easy to install; it literally took me five minutes. The cord is long enough to allow for quite a bit of flexibility for positioning.

The coverage is at least 30 feet as described, and the motion detection range does appear to be a full 180 degrees. The motion detection sensor is sensitive, but not so sensitive where it goes off seemingly for no reason.

We’ve tested it, of course, and we cannot sneak by it! I suggest trying out the different timer settings on the light so that you can determine your preference in that regard. We have had extremely strong thunderstorms and winds in my area over the last couple of weeks, so I have really put this light through some intense waterproof testing.

Thus far, it remains completely unaffected. Overall, I am extremely impressed with this product and would recommend it with confidence.

Before we evenhad a chance to install this outside, I asked my husband to “charge” it up in the sun just to get a sense of how bright it would be before deciding where to place it. I have been disappointed by other solar lights that are not very powerful.

Wow! It took no time at all to charge in the sun and its was might bright at night. The design is such that it casts light in a 3 part circular sweeping direction. And the motion sensor feature is great when one of us has to go outside.

No more stumbling around int he dark with this powerful light ready to turn on at the ready. I am very pleased with this light. The design is pleasant, the light is very bright and the motion sensor feature is an added bonus.

We’ve had our motion sensor security light for about two weeks. We placed it above the back door. I am really liking how bright this light is. The sensor detects the smallest movement which is great.

There is a button you can turn it off if you want to sit outside and enjoy the evening and not have the light come on every time you move. The light detects movement and comes on even when you or someone else isn’t really close to it.

I feel much safer having this light. It’s made very well. Easy to install might take two people depending on how high you want it. Great brand great product we are very happy with it.

I bought one of these lights for my daughter when she had items stolen off vehicle. Chose white to blend into fascia board. Easy to install the three screws into wood. Stays on low light all night and goes very bright with movement.

Also looks like a security camera (which it isn’t). Solid aluminium body even quite stylish. Bought another three for my elderly parents when they had an attempted break-in the following week. Their neighbour even asked for details so they could get some for themselves.

As you can see I’m very happy with this light, ticks all the boxes. Only problem is that you can’t switch off, but I they are using free sun energy so who cares!.

It’s a strong light and well built in metal not PVC. Easy to install and get working. Be better if the solar panel could be disconnected/ reconnected via plug/sockets, and repositioned so it overhangs light lens.

Would allow light on panel even if light is on fascia below a gutter. But weight of overhanging solar panel may be too great for keeping light securely fixed at its gimbal joint.

This is the best! I’ve ordered other solar powered motion sensor lights and this one is brighter than any I have. The motion sensor had a great range. Very happy with this purchase!

Not had these lights very long but we are pleased they are bright and the beam gives a good coverage nice sturdy construction so we are hoping they will last the winter cant say what would happen months on, weather and lack of day light! But impressed so far.

I bought 8 of this to have em around the house , very poor lighting but this is not the main problem , unless you have in a straight spot to the sun all day otherwise you don’t get any lighting in the night time.

With a 200-yard-long private driveway, lighting was needed. With trees lining the driveway, fastened these lights to tree trunks evenly spaced on both sides. It is the perfect solution!

The 28 LED motion lights are perfect to provide a small area with illumination. They’re good in our chicken yard (alerts us to four legged visitors) as well as our garden paths.

I’ve had two these up for a few months during a cold northern Manitoba winter and they have been working great. I was worried about the batteries not lasting in the cold and not charging well during the winter, but I’ve had no such issues.

They are quite bright, activate consistency when I’m walking by, easy to set up, and easy adjust where the motion sensor and lights are facing.

I really liked the light due to its ability to mount on a corner, but extremely disappointed with it. Charged it for three days per instructions, installed it, and tried to set it up only to find out the motion detector didnt work.

The ONLY way to trigger the light to turn on was to physically tap the light or sensor. No amount of motion in front of sensor will activate it.

My response to this product is just kind of “meh,” so not to ramble, I’ll just list the good, then the bad. Good things? Fairly durable, though it feels like it wouldn’t be. Accidentally dropped it putting it up, and it was perfectly fine, even the solar panel.

Indeed looks like a security camera, albeit dated. Can also be a bad thing since that will draw attention in certain circumstances. Solar powered, so no changing batteries. Bad things? Solar powered, so it must be in an area with a lot of sunlight to fully charge.

Luckily that’s easy on my property, but “results may vary. ” The lights SEEM bright indoors, but testing at night has shown time and time again that the illumination is fairly weak. Smaller-than-expected sensor area, so you basically have to be right up on this thing for it to kick on.

If you want something cheap and easy to set up & forget, go for it, but there are better products on the market.

Wow a solar powered bionic spotlight! My favorite part is that it has bo batteries and no wires. This spotlight is so easy to install by following the enclosed instructions. It is motion activated and will catch anything very easily.

I like that it is weather resistant which is great for the extreme Oklahoma weather. The light swivels back and forth and is very easy to position. It is LED. And being solar powered I don’t have to worry about whether we have electricity or not.

Works in any home or business where you need an amazing security light. It looks like a camera. The mounting plate comes apart from the spotlight. Choose a place where you get maximum light so it will always be ready for use.

The motion light is pretty bright and has a good reach, I have it at the front of my porch and it will light up my front door about 8 feet away. I only tested the day/night light as it is much weaker than what I need, so I won’t be using it on that setting.

I think from a distance it does look like a camera- has a red flashing light! but I think up close it doesn’t look like the real thing. My only issue is that the light can’t be separated from the solar panel.

So for me, I can’t put it really where I want it (by my front door) because I have a porch, so it won’t get charged. It would be great if the solar panel could be detached and had a 6-8 foot wire so that I could put that on my roof and then have the light by my door.

But otherwise, it does what it says it will do and looks pretty much like a security camera.

I have two of these now, bought one to see if it was bright enough here in the dark countryside. It throws a lot of light and is easy to install. Bought the second and am still impressed, especially the distance that I could set it to go off when it is needed.

It is also a perfect security light if anything moves near the house. Looking to get a third one soon!.

I purchased 2 of the watch dog motion detected solar lights 3 years ago in 2014 for my front & side door entrances to my house. They work great still to this day. I live in the Colorado mountains at over 9000 ft.

and the sun can be treacherous on plastic, rubber, & paint. These lights are very well made and are weather durable. I will note that the lights are somewhat protected from the weather under the roof eaves, but the solar panels are on the south side of the house.

A lot of daily sun. The adjustable motion detection field works flawlessly. I purchased 2 more in April 2017 for my pole barn where I store my firewood. I highly recommend these lights for your security and piece of mind.

I wanted a 1 for 1 replacement for existing Watchdog lights; the 4 which I have are having troubles. Had planned to replace the lights but not the solar panels but that’s not possible with Li-ion vs.

lead acid at different voltages. Very minor shape changes will be hard to adapt to my stainless steel brackets. Your sales folks were VERY nice and the shipping was quick.

I was really excited about trying solar for the first time. After charging all day I was surprised at how bright they were when I turned them on to place them in the front yard. I thought these were fabulous.

But then the next night they didn’t come on. Maybe they didn’t get enough sun. So I checked the placement but the sun wasn’t the issue. The next few nights I had to manual turn them on which kind of defeats the purpose.

I decided to try the lower setting to see if that would make a difference. It gave me one night of light that turned on automatically. The only way they work now is if I go and manually turn them on.

So yes great lights with plenty of brightness on high setting but disappointing that they don’t go on automatically.

The Home Zone Security – Solar Spot Light, 2-Pack are amazing! I didn’t think just 2 would light up my porch area sufficiently and I was wrong! The lights were super easy to put together and stake into my yard.

They lit up immediately after I turned on for the first time. I set them on low because the other setting was so bright. My entire porch and yard is illuminated. I like how they are adjustable and I can easily move the direction of the light.

The area doesn’t get much sunlight and I was worried they would not charge but they do. These are great lights. Highly recommend.

We actually installed these in my mom’s yard because she’s a little older and we felt like it would be a great safety feature to have some lights in the yard. So far they’re working well. Especially now that winter is coming and it’s getting darker earlier, it just seems like a good idea to have a little extra light and she really appreciates having them as well.

I wish that they were maybe a little bit more decorative or a little more aesthetically pleasing but they get the job done and that’s what counts.

I have not installed this yet. However, when I took it out of the box, I bumped the switch and was very surprised that it was charged. The light is extremely bright, just what I want. The charging panel is very large, but I guess it has to be for the number of lumens.

I’m sure this will be just what I need, when I finally get it installed. I couldn’t find this in the store and asked an employee for help. She went to the receiving area and found it. Being a new item, it was not yet on the shelf.

She was very helpful and kind.

Just installed this offsite and have not had a chance to test the motion and solar collector. However, it installed fairly quickly. The bracket you attach to the building is difficult to install without taking the light off and.

when you install the bracket and then try to put the light back on the bracket it’s almost impossible because of the little nut you have to insert in back on both sides to match up with the knob. However, it’s real bright!.

Good motion tracker and bright lights. Easy to follow install directions. Light weight. Looks nice. Long enough wire between the panel and the light pod with motion sensor. I have the panel on top of the roof and the light & pod stacked underneath an eave on the house.

It should remain dry where it is located. So far so good. The Texas sun keeps the battery charged daily. I have the panel adjusted for optimal sun exposure. I like it, I bought 2 more while they were still on sale and installed them with the panel exposed and the light & sensor pod under an eave.

We have 2 other Solar motion lights that have worked for years. I moved the panel to the same area as the other one. Charged on off. Turned to Auto 60. All it would do is flash. I moved the solar panel.

Left it on off. Switched it to auto and 60 timer. After a severe lightning storm it started to work. The next night it quit. I love the amount of light. Too bad it doesn’t work. Why don’t they send them with batteries charged?.

Great product! I had researched this type of security lights concerning how much light they provide and the sensitivity of the motion detector. The price was right on this item so I thought I would try it and see if it met my need.

It surpassed my expectations and functions so well to light up an area behind my garage. The solar panel works great. I recommend this product!.

Got this light to deter folks from wondering into my driveway in the middle of the night. There is no easy access to electricity, so solar was the way to go. It has great range for detecting motion and can ‘see’ several feet on either side of the driveway.

The light is strong, but not harsh and also helps us unload our cars in darkness. The unit was quite easy to install and comes with a 15 foot cable from the solar collector to the light. I like that it has up and down adjustment as well as dials to regulate sensitivity, duration (once motion is detected) and brightness.

A small downside is that the light does not seem to swivel from side to side, but proper placement is the solution for this. The solar collector will swivel in any direction. Very pleased to recommend this.

I have 2 of these already, and they have worked great for years. Haven’t changed the batteries in the older one, after 8 years or more, but when I do need to, it will be easy, as they are just AA NiMh rechargeables, available anywhere.

Nice & bright, motion sensor works well, dependable, and so far, no maintenance.

Had this up for a month now. It’s good quality and works great. Will have to see how it lasts over the winter but I think it will be fine. Like the fact that the batteries are replaceable.

The good: 1) 3 switches to control light timing, LUX, and motion sensitivity; and 2) a 15 ft power cable allows the solar panel to be placed away from the light base to maximize solar collection. The bad: supposedly a new light but 1) the swivel on the solar panel was broken right out of the box, 2) there were scratches on the light base near the on-off-auto switch, 3) the on-off-auto switch required numerous attempts to get it to switch to the auto mode, 4) there was water condensation marks on the inside of the glass protecting the lights, and 5) per the instructions, it requires 3 days of charging before the first use.

I purchased 3 of these lights solely to use as Dusk to Dawn lights. According to the ad, the lights would be able to be used for this purpose,remaining on at night until the batteries run out. This may be true if you manually switch the light to the ON position but I have tried every setting and there is no way to set them to have them come on automatically when it gets dark.

This is a real problem if you are using the lights for security and have them mounted high on poles. For the light to come on, motion is required and then the lights will only stay on for a short time.

Directions are very unclear and non-specific. The lights themselves seem to be fairly decent quality but they will definitely not stay on constantly as long as advertised on a full charge.

I wanted to wait for awhile before making my review. Ive had these for awhile now and they work great. I was having some trouble with getting them set up. Because they would stay on all day and not at night.

Finally I figured out what the problem was. In order for these to work as described, you need to first adjust the timer and the sensor. If they are turned on to the maximum setting then they will either stay on all the time or they wont work at all.

Once I did that, now they really are great. Im able to see when or who walks anywhere around my house. Id highly recommend this to anyone. Once you make a few small adjustments to your solar lights they are really worth the money.

So you can turn this on but it either flickers or it senses motion and turns on for two seconds or so and then turns off. Can you even use this with a single unit? Not sure – they don’t say you can or can’t and that’s all I want is a light for my side yard.

Instructions written by foreigners or mental defectives. Not sure which. Instructions say 96 mm separation between center of the mounting screws. BUZZ!!! BUZZ!!! Wrong. It is 105mm. Be nice to get that right so I didn’t have to hunt around the garage for another wall anchor unit for my stucco wall that would work to correct their inaccurate instructions.

This light is great! We have three of them and they work wonderfully. One is on the shed outside the dog door, so we can see when the dog goes out at night since we have coyotes around. The others are bu the side garage door when you need to take the trash out in the dark.

I love the fact that they are adjustable so you don’t blind the neighbors when it comes on.

Bought one for our driveway last year – worked well for 3 months. Returned it to Sams and got a new replacement. The second one lasted 5 months. Done. Returning it for money back. Hope to find a better solar light elsewhere.

We’ve given it to our daughter, because she hasn’t got a light outside her back door to take the green bags out. We haven’t heard if her husband has put it up yet.

Very bright light so far I have used many models, The batteries hold charge for longer. No cables to run, easy to install. Free light every night. The sensor is also very sensitive even my neighbor’s cat runs in backyard the light turns on!.

This solar light is 1st class. Easy to install and with the added ability to tilt and rotate all 3 lights, it does a perfect job of illuminating my back garden. Energy efficient and without the worry of buying batteries, which makes it environmentally safe.

I have a few acres and was wanting a bright solar light that I could put between my house and the back end of my yard. This works perfectly and provides just the right amount of light needed for me. The motion sensors are very accurate without being so touchy that they come on for the trees blowing.

They are bright enough for me to be able to see about 30-35 feet in the area I have them directed at. I mounted them up high pointed down so they would get adequate sunlight, and even with that they catch my or my dog very well! They were very easy to install, I mounted them to a wooden post and it took me maybe 5 minutes.

I did have to play with them alot over the first few days to get the sensors directed properly, which was a bit irritating, but now it’s been a few weeks with no issues. The lights stay in position even with it being located in a very windy area.

Seems extremely durable, and sturdy. I purchased a second one to attach to the side if my garage which has aluminum siding on it, and install was as easy as the first!.

I have a good size driveway and at night it’s very dark where I live. I needed a light that would light up the driveway to see where I was going at night and give me comfort for security also. This light has two light with one on each side to light up a large portion of area to see.

These light are bright but not blinding to have. I feel better at night when I’m home alone and can look outside and see anyone or anything coming up to my home. Installing this light was pretty simple and only took about 15 minutes from start to finish.

We have had these lights installed for almost a month now and have been impressed with the brightness and security feature making us feel safer in our home.

We live out in the country and it get very dark. we have chickens we tend to and let them free range usually till about 9pm. this light has become our saving grace. we usually will take a flash light out and call them in but with this light we just walk by it or the chickens do and it lights up.

we have it positioned so it lights up a good section of the yard the chickens stay in. this light was easy to install and we are looking to buy another for the back end of the barn so we can see the whole area the chickens roam around in.

Seems like a good little light. Is on low and can be seen after dark dimly lighting up the backyard and once it catches movement it shines brighter. Seems to charge well even though we have a lot of shade.

I ordered 4 of the Black Motion LED Solar Lights at the same time and only 2 arrived during the designated time frame. I then had to contact Houzz; they contacted the seller and the other two arrived over a week later.

I am returning all 4 lights now because Houzz suggested that I wait for all 4 lights to arrive before returning. The lights were not the size that I expected.

Perfect. Like the large solar panel on top and just the right light on low and just the right amount of light on high when motion is detected.
