20 Best Outside Dryer Vent Cover (2022 Updated)

The 4 flap vent that came wth my siding that was installed 10 years ago wouldn’t always close on the top vent. I figured it was because the flaps was so time and light the heat would slightly warp it to where it would get hung up and not close.

I would constantly have to pop the flap out and straighten it but it only lasted a few weeks. I decided to buy this one because the 3 flaps are bigger and thicker and shouldn’t warp and not close. I haven’t used it long enough to see how it lasts buy from looking at it I can tell it’s much better made than the one the siding installers used.

It doesn’t match my siding color but my trim and soffits are white so I’m not too concerned about the color. I guess if I wanted I could spray paint it tan but I probably won’t.

Our house is almost 18 years old, and still had the original dryer vent cover outside! However, my husband recently noticed that one of the 3 louvers had cracked, and when he tried to purchase a replacement vent cover, he discovered that the measurements of the vent covers currently being sold in area stores are not the same as the measurements of the original vent cover; plus, the newer ones have 4 louvers, rather than 3.

So we searched and searched, and finally found this Deflecto vent cover on the Walmart website– it is exactly the same size (and with only 3 louvers!) as our 18-y. o. vent cover. Additionally, it was a good value for the price, and the shipping was very quick! So we are very pleased with this purchase, and highly recommend this vent cover!.

I used the louvers to replace my existing vent louvers which were brittle and broken. The existing vent was already sealed in the wall so I just popped out the new louvers and reinstalled them in my existing vent hood.

Worked perfectly!.

This size vent was impossible to find locally, all other places I checked only carried a 4″ version in white. This 3″ vent is more compact and dosn’t need an additional 4″ to 3″ adaptor to use with my bathroom vent fans.

The brown color was also a far better choice for my stained wood siding.

Product was usable as sent. I needed 1/2 inch larger but could only find 3 inch. Great product for the money.

The vent kit is what I expected. The plastic chrome cover looks good and the plastic thru-wall duct is what I expected. The aluminized flexible duct is about 3′ long and it comes with two band clamps.

There were screws included in the packaging – it takes 10. Just be aware you have to supplement the screws to fully attach it.

Bought this kit. Everything ok except that they supply only 2 ft worth of flexible vent hose which is totally useless unless your vent is directly behind the dryer. Had to go and buy a separate flexible hose even though tis chrome plated plastic vent is sold at a premium price.

Chrome vent cover is cheap plastic very disappointed in the quality. Worth then less than half price. Would not recommend this item!

Good quality. I liked the critter guard. I modified them to use as vent covers on my chicken coop. I bought 14 of them ! Best price I could find and fast ship.

This one was cheaper than home depot so I was afraid it wouldn’t be as good. However, I really love this one. The plastic is durable and it has a one way forced air trap that you cannot see in the photo which automatically opens to let the hot air out but closes when air is not blowing.

I used silicon to prevent bugs from nesting behind the face plate. Highly recommended!.

The removable screen is a nice feature and makes a durable replacement vent hood. I only wish the collar where the indoor vent pipe attaches to the vent hood were a little wider.

Why you cannot find this vent at the large home improvement stores is a big mystery. Nonetheless this product is the best invention since the shirt pocket ! ! ! To put another way – instead of tying to solve the problem – simply eliminate the problem.

I have used several different vents and examined many more during the course of the houses in 15 years. This vent is superior to ALL OTHER products. Simply be mindful of three items. 1) Take a cue from the suggestions in the instructions – use a bead of silicone when joining the elbow to the vent tube in the wall.

Also LIGHTLY apply another bead around the flange when attaching the elbow to the house. this ensures no air, bugs or moisture enter the wall cavity. 2) Be sure to paint exposed surfaces to prevent damage from the sunlight (Use spray paint specifically for plastic – this is found at all large hardware stores) 3) from time to time lift the lid and check the one part that moves for an lint build-up.

Just a simple wipe-out ensures the seal of the mating parts. It is simply amazing how much a difference this simple item can make to eliminate air leaks into your house. This will almost be certain to pay for itself in a few months.

After 12 years of exposure to the outside, only the cover needed replacing though the plastic body did discolor somewhat, so this is an exact replacement. It is ideal in that it keeps out the elements, protects from rodents, nesting birds, insects, need I say more.

The plastic body is lightweight and strong but the mounts are still plastic and one should avoid overtightening the screws to avoid cracking from unnecessary pressure. Caution should be used when removing the plastic lid now and them for the occasional removal of lint.

The plastic lid may be somewhat thinner and prone to cracking. Perhaps the smallest amount of of soap along the inside rim might alleviate that problem. Attempts to support local first went unsuccessful though Walmart.

com carried the item at an excellent price. It arrived at my local store quicker than originally anticipated and am very pleased.

This is the second time we purchased this product. Previously we purchased one for another house and we loved it. It is easy to clean out and limits drafts and keeps any pests/rodents out. When we purchased our new home we went “looking” for the same dryer vent.

The vent was on our previous house for 16 years. The dry vents can be painted to match the color of your choice. Love it!.

After a bunch of research, I found the Heartland Vent Closure. Incidentally, Walmart had the best price. The design is clever and it works great. There were issues when I first got my vent. The diagram shows the lid.

The screws were in a baggie taped to the lid inside. Problem was, the lid would not come off. I didn’t want to break it. So after some brainstorming, I decided to soak the vent lid area in hot, soapy water.

The lid was then softened enough to be removed. Screws rescued. WooHoo, problem solved. I painted my vent to match my house trim and easily installed this on my wood siding. It looks great and works wonderfully.

Heartland told me that it wasn’t likely that I would need to clean the vent, but I will check it every 6 months or so. Buy one right now. You’ll be as happy as I am.

I read about this dryer vent and how it was better for the dryer efficiency so I bought it. I replaced the dryer accordion type connection from the dryer to the vent also. I installed the straight pipe from the dryer to the vent so there’s no air obstruction now.

It’s bigger than the regular dryer vent and the air flow is more, so it was worth it. This is also supposed to help the dryer work more efficiently and run a little less.

Easy to install and better than my previous vent. No problems installing. I like the protective grid and how it and the lats are removable for periodic cleaning of the vent. Would recomment.

Works perfectly and was easy to install. The vent hood fit perfectly over the existing dryer exhaust hose.

I do like it but pretty flimsy plastic! Dont know how long it will hold up without breaking/cracking from the weather .

This louvered wall vent was just like the broken one it replaced. Customer was excited I could find it.

Had ancient builders grade plastic vent cover that had degraded, permanently dirty and no flapper to close off vent pipe opening for. way too long. Wasn’t sure how this would work over vinyl siding and hoping not to have another project to seal it around the 4″ pipe, however, fit well so even though not flush with the wall did not have to do anything further.

Flappers open and close just fine. Did need a drill to install as the screw holes did not match up to the old one and, in this case, happy it covered the old rusted screw holes. Was pleased with the outcome and if you don’t need something fancy I would recommend.

Fair price for my needs. My only regret is I didn’t take a before photo. SO much better.

I bought to replace the vent cover for our dryer exhaust. My one complaint is that the size of the inner “tube” that is to fit into the exhaust is the exact same dimensions. It would have been so much easier if they made it slightly smaller so that it would slide in easily.

We were able to squeeze it to fit as it’s plastic but it certainly wasn’t easy.

Very easy to install. Free flowing air which noticeably reduces drying time. Happy that I bought this inexpensive item. Far better than the one I replaced.

Easy install onto stucco house, however a squirrel chewed through (2) of these in one night! These should be metal based so they cannot be chewed. PS: picked up a great live trap from Canadian tire, hope problem is relocated tonight!.

Simple enough, very solid, ships flat which is nice. The holes are not “standard” compared to other dryer vent covers so you want a masonry bit for placing into concrete, but it comes with plugs and stainless screws.

Sort of expensive for what it is, but it is really nice quality and I’ll be darned if a squirrel gets inside here again.

If you have a problems with animals entering your home or you want to take preventative measures, this is the best investment you can make! Absolutely the best dryer vent cover to keep out pests. Don’t waste your money on plastic covers or screens that don’t stand up to chewing rodents or UV light like Wallecover’s do. These are high quality powder coated steel.

Larger than our dryer vent; so we had to revise our initial plans and redesign the attachment process. The guard is very sturdy and appears to be totally rust proof; however, only time will tell with that.

We have a small rodent problem with chipmunk and the small red squirrels invading our vents and storing their winter provisions. We have a small one story home with the vents fairly close to the ground, which allows them easy access.

Hopefully this will solve the access to the dryer vent; with no more seeds in my dryer vent and the dryer itself; and, keeps them out all winter. If so, then it will have been worth every penny and the extra revisions.

This is a great product and I would have given it 5 stars but there were no dimensions in the description. However, I bought it anyway and it worked out beautifully.

I got this for a neighbor to replace the same unit on her dryer vent. Her old one had ‘weathered’ and no longer sealed, etc. properly. Simple removal and reinstall: 6 screws, NOT SUPPLIED, original install looks pretty simple.

NOTE: Screws are not supplied, probably OK because EVERY MOUNTING SITUATION IS DIFFERENT and may require longer or shorter screws. The only instructions are on outside of box. Got the new unit (I did not install the original) tried to open it, there is a plastic latch setup on the front of the lift-up door, but I could not get the thing to open, finally forced it a bit, looked at it and filed off some of the latch and the catch plate (no idea what the exact terms for these are), so it will now open easily enough, but still latches securely.

File a little and test. You cannot simply push the catch back and the lid comes loose. The careful filing of the catch seemed to make easier to open and also latch securely enough to stay shut. While this fix works, it would seem that a redesign of the latch arrangement would be a good idea.

Shipping was a WEEK FASTER than I expected, good, and overall it seems to be a reasonably good unit for what it is. I would probably buy this again next time it needs to be replaced.

I purchased this for a rental property. I have a vent similar to this one at my home , and I really like it. It blocks cold air from coming in the dryer and keeps pest out , it is printable to match your house , it is easy to clean out.

This vent I am not a fan of the lid it snaps on and has hinges, as We all know the plastic clip will eventually break, I wish it were made like the one I have and the lid is a cap the fits over the top, that is why I gave it a 3 star rating everything else is good.

Product seems to be fine. Installed and operational. Time will tell how much better this preforms than the traditional flapper type vent. Installation had no issues and there are not a lot of instructions the manufacturer can provide.

The only issue was getting the additional parts required. Information not easily found on manufacturer’s web site. I installed vent on a 8 inch block wall. I needed a tube to penetrate the wall and connect the vent outside to the hose inside.

I ended up using the pipe off a flapper vent. I would have preferred a plastic tube from Lambro Industries that matched the vent material wise.

The pictured item is identical to the vent cap that I wanted to replace, but is not the same as the cap I received. What I did receive looks very similar, but is not identical and doesn’t fit the vent pipe coming out of the house.

While I wouldn’t say that this vent hood is super sturdy, I needed to replace one that had been installed on my home around 2009 and didn’t want to drill new holes in the siding. I searched and finally found this one, which looked about right.

Turns out that it is the EXACT same one – easy to screw into the existing holes. Needed quite a bit of caulk to seal up the edges but it worked fine.

This is a very good fan. It was easy to install and works well. The reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is noise. When first installed the fan was very quiet. With use it has become slightly more noisy.

Nothing out of the ordinary, just a bit more than when first installed.

The aluminum pipe supplied with this kit did not fit into the circular opening of the plastic vent hood. It won’t fit inside the circular plastic opening and it also won’t fit around the outside of it.

It’ s exactly the wrong size to go on either way! Following the product directions, the aluminum pipe snaps together along channels formed in its edges. This feature of the product works. However the diameter of the resulting pipe is the wrong size to fit the plastic hood and the diameter is also too large to fit inside a standard dryer vent hose.
