20 Best Oven For Polymer Clay (2022 Updated)

I started Claying (a word I made up. meaning doing clay/playing with clay) during 2020 I started getting really serious about it and I developed a passion for it. So, I got Sculpey I immediately started claying when I got home and I was amazed by how it felt, it was (and still is) soft and easy to work with, my all my old clay was hard and cracked if you bent it (Sculpey does not crack) when I was done I baked it and the colours still stayed the exact same and it did not crack at all (but if it does you can mix Sculpey liquid clay with a Sculpey III and you can just smooth it over the crack and re-bake it), also not only did it not crack it also did not melt or sink.

Compared to other products I’ve used this one does not stick to your hands and gets hard (when baked) and not easy to brake. even the cleanup is easy just wipe down your surface with a damp cloth with a little bit of soap.

I’m absolutely blown away by how amazing Sculpey is!.

Sculpey III clay. Wonderful things can be created with this brand. I love the fact it glows in the dark, I’ve made a set of earrings with moons and stars using Sculpey III Glow in the Dark. I’d have given this 5 stars, reason I didn’t is because Sculpey clay, specifically this particular brand is soo soft, it picks up imperfections so easily during the sculpting process.

It takes more time and effort to sculpt with this product than it does with any other Sculpey colors. Its perfect for children but for serious sculptures, it takes a LOT of time and patience to create something without those imperfections.

The other issue I have is that you can’t cane with this product it is so soft. Like creating a moon cane or glow in the dark flower cane, it will not be firm enough to work the details.

Sculpey never fails (unless you bake it too long). The tan colour is great for making pastries in 1:12 scale for a model bakeshop. Works well with very small molds. If you have arthritic hands, slice some off and put between wax paper or in a plastic bag and sit on it for a few minutes.

The heat of your body will warm it a bit so it becomes easier to work with.

Fimo breaks up and is too difficult for a new to Polymer Clay. I have seen where people love to use it and that was the reason I purchased it. But, they did not show how it is more difficult to work with.

While trying to roll it either with the clay machine (pasta machine) or with the acrylic roller it broke and stuck to the machine and the acrylic roller. It was extremely annoying! My house is not humid so I know that was not the issue and I did not have an issue with any of my other clay (Premo).

Beautiful colors, but take a little extra conditioning compared to Sculpey Primo or Soufflé. But worth it not to mix these lovely pastels!

very good product. Easy to use and clear instructions on how to use/create and heating it up. Wanted to make mini food for my daughter’s babies and found this was the best thing to use. She also was able to help with the crafting.

We will be looking at this again but other colours.

I bought this clay for my son, he got into sculpting and hasn’t looked back. He absolutely loves this clay, it is very easy to work with. If he has a problem with how something looks or feels he just pulls it off and just starts over.

This oven is perfect for small crafts. It has a timer and automatically shuts off which is a great feature for multitaskers! I place a thermometer in when using, and it always heats to the correct temperature.

A good little oven is a necessity for anyone working with clay polymer. I decided to get a separate oven and stop using my kitchen oven to keep the fumes and any other contact with clay away from food.

This used unit is spotless and works great. I’m very happy with my purchase.

I love this oven! It’s small enough to fit on my craftroom countertop and that the temp setting goes low enough and coordinates with the timer for bulky clay projects. I also like that I was able to find non-stick pads and an aluminum tray to fit it.

This material is not like the sculpy I’m use to buying at hobby lobby. You almost need an industrial press just to knead it so its workable. It cracks with the slightest bend and any pressure you put on something distorts the entire piece.

Not to mention it smells like a Chinese silicone factory. Its not worth the time. Buy a better brand. Beware.

I’ve heard that the Original Sculpey line isn’t as great as others (softer, more difficult to get details, more brittle), but for a beginner like me, it’s perfect! You can find original sculpey for a reasonable price and it’s easy to work with! I would definitely recommend for anyone getting into sculpting! I’ve attached a photo of the first sculpture I did!.

I have used original white Sculpey polymer clay for several years to sculpt small figurines. I have over two hundred now, cartoon and old movie and comedy characters, but Sculpey has become difficult to find now and far too expensive for me to continue using it.

I’m now looking for a suitable replacement.

I am a polymer clay artist and teach children’s classes. Although I use Premo in my own work (which is preferable for millefiore canes or more detailed work), Sculpey Bake Shop is perfect for kids and I buy it regularly.

It’s easy to condition the clay and mix colors. Only drawback is that it can get really “sticky” in hot weather so make sure to store it properly. As for the other reviews, there should be no problems with baking as long as you follow the instructions.

Keep in mind that different ovens can give different results – just be sure your oven temperature is accurate and your clay is not too close to the heating element or it will burn. The clay is somewhat flexible when it’s still hot but will harden after cooling.

Baking for the required amount of time is also important for durability.

This will be the third time I’ve purchased this product. When I was a kid (and still today) I loved making clay figures, but always bought sculpey 2 or 3. It is often really hard and I have to knead it a lot to work with it.

I have my own kids now and my son has started enjoying using my clay. We got him some Bake Shop clay for Christmas as it’s supposed to be softer (he’s 4). He loves it! I have even switched to buying this type of clay since it is so much easier to work with.

Baking has not presented any issues for me. Follow the instructions for time and temp. I hope they keep making this clay!.

#sweepstakes I bought this as a gift for a friend who makes fascinating tiny sculptures of imaginary beings. It’s perfect for his work and he loves it.

The only upside to this polymer clay is that it is super soft out of the box for young hands. It is about the texture of a block of room temperature cream cheese. This might be good for a very young, novice sculpture, but I was teaching a class of 9-16 year olds and tried to use this, and all of them, including me, struggled mightily with any tool work.

The clay just deforms and smooshes the moment you touch it. It also seems to melt as it sits. your sculpture will droop significantly. I had them using armatures, and it’s a good thing. Spring for the Sculpey or other name brand unless you really don’t care about the outcome.

I like this clay. Its easy to work with and it doesnt dry out easy. I have to have surgery on my wrist and was afraid i couldnt work on my crafts until i healed. This clay is soft and manageable. As a person who forgets things constantly, i thought it would dry out and i would have to throw it away.

Its been on my table for two weeks and its as soft as the day i opened the package.

If you dont have a kiln but still want to make stuff this will work. It wont feel the same: the texture is not the same as regular clay plus this stuff doesnt dry out/harden even when you leave out for days so you can leave it where you want just out and it will be fine.

BUT, because it wont harden if you roll it out you have to have a scraper to get it off the surface its on (buy a marble slab of it tends to get really soft really fast without a cool surface) or else it will just stretch.

This clay was a little bit less expensive than the other brands offered but the quality was just as good. It was pliable and semi-soft out of the package and got more pliable and soft as I worked the clay.

I wanted a marbled look so I mixed two colors together. The colors mixed but stayed their distinct colors so it worked just the way I wanted it to. I followed the directions on the package to bake it and the final product, a charm for a necklace, was perfectly done.

I recommend this brand.

They clay was perfect and reasonably priced for the dollar amount same as it was when I was younger. I’ve always enjoyed going to Michaels as do many people I know. When little, I thought it a single store that some local named Michael owned.

Having lived in many different places since, it was at first a shock, but later comfort to know that one can visit a Michaels nearby nearly everywhere. It’s fun to go in even just to take a peek at changing crafting supplies and to inspire yourself :).

My mom was an artist and used Sculpty to make jewelry. I, not being patient because I was a kid, never made much. This clay softens up in small bits in just a few minutes. I was using a mold to make bricks on a Harry Potter wall.

The Craftsmart clay needed to be soft enough to roll out. I did three small pieces and hit it with a rolling pin. The clay showed all the brick details with no seams were the three days pieces touched.

This is a great product for many different things. I like to make stuff with my kids. Tomorrow we will be using this clay to make our own Christmas ornaments. It so easy to use just create what you want and pop it in the oven so you can keep it forever.

Children should be supervised with this product because of the oven use.

I have been buying this pack for years. There are a bunch of different colors and a few plastic tools. The clay is malleable and easy to work with. It bakes up really nicely. I can’t think of any cons of this product.

I would definitely recommend it for others to try if you like crafting as much as I do.

Have already made a few projects using this clay, the colors stay very vibrant after baking and haven’t experienced any cracking or breaking. The included tools are more useful than expected, but I wish that they didn’t have seams running down the middle of the smoothing surface.

The bolder colors do transfer pigment to your hands and work surface, but does wash off.

Im familiar with the product and used it for many years. Since the purchase it as been stored in the correct au and the package as not been opened. The Fimo is far too hard and crumbles when I attempt to knead or mould it.

Bought for my granddaughter who has an amazing artistic nature and out of all the clays that I’ve procured for her this has been her no 1 choice ‘it wouldn’t be mine but then I have different requirements and work in a larger scale, it’s good for small modeling projects.

so good to get white in quantity at a reasonable price as I use masses of it in the manufacture of my jewellery

This is my absolute favorite clay to work with. Holds detail well, doesn’t get sticky when warm, and very flexible when cured. The only issue is that it’s been consistently out of stock for two years.

Restocks are very small and sell out immediately, but whenever I can get my hands on it, it’s a joy to work with. Very excited for when stocking can be consistent again.

I Love sculpey!! You can’t go wrong with any of their clay seriously. I don’t know why they don’t have all the ones on here like the bulk packs. I didn’t use this specific color listed. I recently started making stuff with my kids, we mix colors and make beads for key chains and earrings.

This was the first pair of earrings I have ever made, and my kids made the beads 😩! ❤️.

Soufflé is the BEST!!! It is very hard to get- it’s typically sold out and when some does become available it sells out immediately. Please consider using your resources to produce more Soufflé and less Sculpey III, which is less popular.

I believe this would benefit you as a company and make your customers happy :).

Likes. no smell when being cured in the oven. Easy to use for what I use it for when making miniture cakes and simple models. Easy to jix with other shades. Good results. Dislikes. the colour red runs into whites.

Overall I find the product affordable with many lovely shades. It is different to other clays I use. I also mix clays and it works well for me. I have yet to try cane work with this product. I will continue to use this product.

I usually use premo or CeRnit but have had trouble getting it due to short supply, so I thought I’d give Fimo a try as no need to order it and available at my local hobby craft. There is a great choice of colours and the Fimo effects have some lovely clay.

I am very, very, pleased with the result. It’s firmer than premo and cernit but I found my canes held their shape better and enjoyed using it. I will definitely use this polymer clay again. I am very very pleased I tried it.

So that’s a positive to come out of this terrible pandemic. Definitely give it a try if you haven’t tried it before.

This clay is superb quality and easy to work with. It comes in many colours and keeps its colour once baked. Highly recommend this to anyone who is just starting out with clay but also to beginners too.

Vibrant colors, easy to work with, and quick to bake. Doesn’t seem to stain surfaces too much (at least not my desk). It has been many years since I used oven bake clay and it has been so fun to rediscover it.

I have used it so far to make small animal figurines.

This is our second time purchasing my daughter loves them. The directions are accurate and good on the back. Everything baked perfectly. The colors are easily blended as well.

This variety pack has so many colors. It is a small amount but enough for small crafts, such as beads, small sculptures, anything really. I like the fact that this clay is oven bake so it won’t harden when left out, not until you are ready for it to get hard and have put it into the oven.

Once it is baked and hardened it looks great and stays in its shape that you bake it in. I also love using the plain white in this brand as well, and then just painting it whatever colors you want after it has been baked.

I love this stuff, the only thing I would change about it if I could would be that it does leave a weird residue on your hands while molding the clay. I usually make jewelry pieces out of the clay, like charms for necklaces or bracelets or earrings and sometimes keychains.

Sometimes I will make rings. It’s all pretty easy for anyone to use even children, my kids do all the time. So much fun for the entire family to do together.

Firstly, as someone who has used clay for a number of years- Sculpey is my go to brand. The softest clay needing minimal conditioning it makes the entire process a lot easier and less straining on your hands.

When I first started with clay I started out with Sculpey III but soon found it to be quite brittle even after being baked completely which wasn’t quite compatible with what I was primarily using it for (jewellery).

In regards to pricing and skill level I highly recommend Sculpey three for affordability and for those who are only just getting into working with polymer clay. I have since moved onto Sculpey premo and soufflé which are both a lot more durable and better quality after being baked.

This polymer clay is wonderful. I’ve used it to make earrings, little animals, and a tiny trinket box. I love that it doesn’t crumble, after it’s dry. Easy to work with, and the colors are easily blendable.

You can create an entire world of new colors, or create marble effects. Highly recommend this.

I was disappointed with this glue. I was looking for a glue to repair breaks or cracks in small sculpey figurines I make. The glue is not tacky enough to hold pieces well together till the glue dries enough to bake to cure it.

It was also disappointing that you have bake it to cure it so it holds well. Rebaking already hardened sculpey caused problems and created breaks the figurine where there were none before attempting to repair with this glue.

IF you can get the broken pieces to hold enough to stay together for an additional bake to cure the glue, it does hold well. But this is too difficult to use to be worth the trouble and additional breakage that may occur.

Make it a less watery and more tacky and/or quick drying glue.

Michaels has a good selection of items for polymer clay artists at reasonable prices. Especially when you can use a coupon. I also like that the staff was friendly and asked me if I needed any assistance.

Sculpey Bake & Bond does what is says. I’d purchase it again, from Michaels!.

I really like using this when I’m making slabs with veins. After the paint dries on all the tiny pieces, I drizzle this on before I smush them all back together. I tried using it to glue the earring posts to the clay and had some of them come apart, so I don’t recommend it for that.

Also, don’t leave it in a hot car or it will become too thick to work with.

Firstly, I would love either larger blocks of clay or a lower price. It’s good clay. However, The black was the only color that I’ve used so far that the texture is, for a lack of a better word, greasy and yet somehow sticky.

It’s like trying to lift chewing gum off a surface once rolled and flattened. Also, It smears when lifting (hence greasy) and stretches like gum. Leaving behind a majority of itself on the surface. Secondly, the color selection is great.

With that said, I’ve been looking for individual packs of Arteza but no luck. Thirdly, it is non-toxic which is a plus. But it does stain more than some other brands. Final thoughts, it is not the best clay nor is it the worst.

It’s a good quality clay though. Place it above Sculpey iii and Fimo, but below Sculpey Premo. Depending on your needs it may or may not be better than Sculpey Souffle. Sometimes Souffle can be too soft.

Let me begin by saying that I absolutely love the colors and the workability of this clay; HOWEVER, half way through my dragon sculpture, I came to realize that I was going to need twice as much of the color I’m using.

I went to the website to order individual colors and they don’t offer the polymer clay in individual packs. So, in order to get more of this color, I have to spend another $33 to buy a whole other set, which I refuse to do because I’m not going to get sucked into this very obvious marketing ploy.

I’ll just have to toss this little guy and go buy Sculpey or FIMO and start over. My family is very artistic. We use resin, pigments, acrylic paints, watercolors, acrylic and alcohol inks, polymer clay, brush pens, colored pencils.

pretty much anything that has to do with art, we do it. I was hoping to work a lot more with Arteza products but having to purchase full sets as an only option sucks and there’s plenty of good companies out there that do offer individual sales, as well.

Aside from difficulties with shipping and snafus with the Post Office delivery issues, I have to say that after a couple of months of waiting for my clay to arrive, I am happy with it!! I would offer a couple of suggestions to the manufacturer of the clay: 1: change the packaging to a zip loc bag instead of this wrapping (which comes open and makes for messiness) when received by the customer.

1a). Clay color sometimes stains hands for now reason other than warming it. 1b). Also, Ziploc bags would make it airtight so not to dry out which happened with my first batch of clay. 2: Would ask the manufacturer to offer larger size blocks or different varieties of mixed blocks Some colors are too similar, making it hard to blend some colors together.

3: Offer a variety of shipping options would be great as well. 4: See if you couldn’t find a USA BASED supplier for your clay or tools, as I don’t want to have to wait months again for delivery of my supplies.

5. Closer inspection of tools would be appreciated by the manufacturer as several of the tools were loose (didn’t stay in the holder, ie: fell out of the wooden pieces) I have to say that I LOVE YOUR CUSTOMER SUPPORT!! THEY WERE VERY HELPFUL with solving all of the issues in shipping and reordering my supplies.

If the manufacturer of the products will fix the issues mentioned above, I would definitely buy again!!.

It’s buildable, easy to work with, and holds onto molded/carved details quite well (though you will need to use clay softener or a high percentage isopropyl alcohol to help remove fingerprints). The only issue I have with this specific one is that the white gets dirty very easily.

Even washing your hands beforehand doesn’t always guarantee clean white clay when you get to applying it to armature or sinilar working processes. But you can always use acrylic paints to fix all that, so it’s a rather minor thing.

If you are a small scale sculptor without access to a kiln and limited workspace, you can’t do better than Original Sculpey. Since it doesn’t dry, you can easily go back and make changes before baking without worrying if it is “too late”.

Almost any paint adheres to Sculpey’s baked surface. Also, shrinking is minimal so you know exactly what is going to come out of the oven. I’ll never go back to traditional clay.
