20 Best Over Under Shotgun Case (2022 Updated)

IšverstiShow in original languageOrdered for carrying around my growing collection of ExTech meters and such, so the orange color of the dividers is fortuitous. The case is of lighter design than classic large Pelican cases like the 1620, but it does have latches on the side too, helping with rigidity.

Note the depth before ordering; it might be more than is necessary for DSLR’s, etc. The dividers are sufficient but no instructions came, so you’re on your own to develop a strategy. Haven’t thrown it out of a helicopter yet but I’m sure I’ll get around to that as I age; probably do fine on a 10′ drop.

Price is very reasonable, IMHO.

IšverstiShow in original languageIt’s a Pelican case. You’ll get exactly that. It’s tough. The safety latches work great. It’s lockable. Of course you’re shopping for the knife-specific inserts. I wanted a not-overly-large case capable of holding somewhere in the range of 2 dozen knives.

The storage on the bottom combined with the displayability of the top row is a good balance and very pleasant. The contrasting inset colors are attractive. This was my favorite option. For comparison, I was considering the Nalpak Pelican cases with knife inserts.

The 1170 holding 8 knives with nice dual foam colors. The 1120 holding 13 knives but no foam colors. The 1200 holding 28 knives, which was a little too much capacity for my needs. The Storm im2306 holding 22 knives, but I didn’t like the vertical drop in storage (pure utility and no visibility).

The largest folder I have is the Civivi Asticus at 5″ closed length, 1. 25″ wide and 0. 75″ thick at the tallest peak of the pocket clip. It only fits in the 5 display slots on the top row with no extra length and a little width to spare.

It can jam into the bottom tier slots but only if you push it in and then it’s hard to get back out. The thickness with the pocket clip is fine, but 5″ is a little too long. I’d worry about the foam permanently deforming a bit.

I’d buy it again. No regrets.

The item is perfect for my GS which has a side saddle. Mounting was straight forward and the locks seem functional. I recommend this product.

My son showed me this long rifle case called the Apache 9800 that he got with a coupon price of $119. 99 plus tax here in California. I looked it over and noticed it’s waterproof and long enough for my bolt rifle when I’m taking it out to go to the range.

Yes go to the range only because I do not go on hunting trips but I do go to the range and I just don’t want any nosy person or nosy police officer looking through my pickup cab and harass me. So the Apache 9800 hundred works real well and it has two padlock holes to secure the rifle inside and any additional firearm and accessories.

It has two sturdy wheels on one end and a handle on the other end that helps if you have a tired arm and hand and instead of carrying it to just pull it. The travel case is not exactly light so it’s a good thing it has wheels.

Then again, the Pelican rifle case similar in size to this Apache 9800 is also similar in weight. It’s best to buy this long travel case by looking for a coupon in an NRA magazine or wait till Harbor Freight put this rifle case on sale for $120 dollars.

I found this rifle case on sale from the email Harbor Freight sent me. I couldn’t use the coupon my son used because it expired the following day. Anyway it’s a good unit even though it’s made in China.

I’m not happy with the pull out pre-cut foam because it it breaks up when I was cutting it with a sharp knife. I should have used a hot foam cutter available at Amazon. But I sprayed it with a Plasti Dip I bought from Home Depot and it firmed the foam a bit and colored the foam a little darker.

After paying $1200 for the rifle and $500 for the scope I wasn’t going to keep it in a plastic bag and let it bounce around in the bed of my truck. I was looking for affordable security and protection and this rifle case has it all.

It’s hermetically sealed by a gasket and it has a manual relief valve that allows you to easily open it at varying altitudes. It has three layers of adequate padding to protect the sensitivity of the scope and rifle and after tracing your equipment and plucking out the 1″ squares into its shape you have all around padded protection.

It has two metal reinforced lock points and two wheels on one end to make moving it around easier. It has everything I wanted at 1/3 of what an identical rifle case will cost you elsewhere.

Bought this case for my recent AR since I didn’t have the time or want to put the effort into cutting my foam to size, I could also never get close to the finish quality of the cutting that it comes with.

Here’s all that I can fit into the factory cut foam that came with the case – Rifle with optic, plenty of room around for flexibility in setup, – 2 Safety glasses, – 1 in ear and 1 over ear hearing protection – 1 desiccant container, – 1 spare parts kit – basic tools for spare parts and optic The slot on the lower right side is what I use for ammo, here is how much I can fit into it in addition to all the above mentioned gear All rounds are 5.

56 NATO – 220 rounds in original packaging (with empty mags) – 220 in boxes + 160 Loaded mags (380 rounds) – if I use up all empty spaces around the rifle by placing 20rd boxes of ammo, I can fit an additional 9 boxes wherever they fit bringing the total to 220+160+180=560 rds, which is more than enough for a single day of range use.

(1063 loose rounds if you get rid of the boxes) Is this case expensive? Yes. Does it feel overpriced online? Yes. Is it more durable than a pelican? Absolutely. I have multiple hard cases from carious brands and the nanuk cases are hands down better than any of my cases.

Purchase this case for some electronic equipment and decided on this one for the medium size that fits perfect underneath beds and in the trunks of smaller cars. Also, the foam (sold separate) is easy to carve shape you want.

Build is strong, and the locks are tight. I can’t find a thing I dislike about this case.

This case is easily the equal of the similar size Pelican. I picked this because is has 4 solid very easy to use latches. 2 of the latches have built in locks. There are also holes with steel insert where you can use a padlock, so the security options are great.

Great basic case, fits rifle barely with a scope, but still zips closed. Best fit if you remove the bolt. Would be nice if there was at least one or two zippered pockets on the outside for extra magazines, the bolt, etc.

Still a good case.

This is my 5th Pelican case and just like the other 4 I own, does exactly what its advertised to do. Excellent quality. Excellent locking mechanisms. Excellent fitment with the gaskets. Its what youd expect from Pelican.

The only complaint that Ive ever had on these wheeled versions is that it still sits awkward, if at all when setting it on the edge suitcase style. It simply wants to tip to lay flat. But again, thats a minor inconvenience.

Im buying for the protection; and I am 100% confident that my firearms are safe when the baggage handlers are chucking them or dropping them. Worth every dime. I doubt I would trust another case company to protect my high dollar rifles and firearms.

Sportsmans price matched a modest discount. Quality kit. I used a silver Sharpie to trace, then a Havalon scalpel knife to cut the foam. Worked out well for smooth cuts and corners. Finished with 2 coats of black Plastic Dip spray from Lowes.

Good results.

This is a nice, strong, double rifle case. I have a Boyt also. The Boyt is a bit larger and a bit more protective, but it’s much heavier than the Pelican. I’ve seen plenty of lightweight cases I wouldn’t trust my gun(s) in.

The Pelican is heavy duty -just not as heavy as the Boyt. I personally like the Pelican better. It’s not too clunky.

Great case! I was concerned that the description on many new pelican cases only listed pick and pluck, I wanted solid. This came with solid foam, exactly like the one I got 15 years ago. The protector series is a bit heavier than others, but co-polymer is a lot tougher and more rigid than injection molded alternatives that are cheaper to manufacture.

Use this to travel with a shotgun and a rifle. It’s a pretty tight squeeze for those. I have a hard time imagining two scoped hunting rifles. But overall quality built and secure. Easy to roll through the airport and lock.

I originally purchased the Pelican Vault V770. It was a very nice case that would work fine in many cases–and a cheaper option than the trusty Pelican 1750–but I decided to return the V770 and buy the 1750 because: 1) the 1750 quality was even better than the Vault line, 2) it was even sturdier than the Vault line and truly waterproof (and that is saying alot because the Vault line is excellent), 3) the price wasn’t that much more; and 4) the Pelican 1750 gave me more options when traveling (i.

e. to take 2 guns, or more gear like optics,etc in the case).

Built like a tank. I think this is the same quality like the ones they show on the Pelican videos that can be shot with a shotgun, resist a truck on top and can be tossed from a building without getting any damage.

I bought it for carrying c-stands. I returned it just because I decided to spend a little more and being able to carry more c-stands and any other kind of equipment.

nothing beats pelican. I use this to transport c-stands and light stands. It’s perfect. Lasts forever.

I use these cases to transport my c-stands (turtle base version & extension arms) I can fit 4 to a case with the arms and knuckles as well. These cases are great to load into a SUZ as the bottom layer and stack other cases on top.

If you rotate them one specific way, you can also fit 4 avenger mini-booms into one of these cases.

I love this rifle bag! It was originally purchased for an AR-15 and fits this weapon easily and comfortably. There is an impressive amount of pockets and storage spaces in this case. There is also a lot of padding to help protect your weapon.

The 48 in case could fit a MUCH larger weapon easily, and I may need a new gun to fit this case (any excuse, right?!?) Seriously though, I also use this case to store my AR until I can get a gun safe, and I have zero worries with storing my gun in this bag.

I feel like it will protected from just about anything. I am highly impressed with this gun bag and would definitely recommend it.

The TLO Outdoors Tactical is well designed, well made, sturdy, nicely padded with divided sections for storage, and it suits my needs. The quality of construction is. OK, middling, middle-of-the-road, average, certainly not to the quality of the top names in the bag business (you know who they are), but those are also much more expensive.

This bag will do the work of transporting long guns to and fro without issue. There are numerous pouches for extra capacity and so on. The material is thin and the sewing is starting to fray even with some light use.

As a general transportation, it’s not bad but I don’t expect it to last. 3 stars.

Excellent case, very well made and high quality latches. I will not be able to comfortably fit two rifles in this case as I am using it for Ruger Precision Rifle with a Vortex3 Scope. I could probably squeeze something in there with it, but I would be worried about not having enough cushion all the way around.

Instead i will use the extra space to store other gear in there. You will need to cut the foam yourself, its not one of the ones with pre-cut 1 inch pick out squares in the foam. Which is better in the long run, but you have to spend some time fitting it to your desired rifles.

Pelican Vault V800 Double Rifle Case is very well made and is ample in size to accommodate two rifles. Construction is sturdy with multiple locking points provided for added security. Multiple foam layers allow for individual customization to accommodate a variety of different firearms and optics combinations with room for ammo and other accessories.

This case is very large, and let’s you pack multiple items inside. With taking multiple firearms out to the range and other locations, this case protects your valuables with no worries, and provides a great level of security.

These are well made and thought out cases. O ring sealed , heavy duty wheels on one end and big handles on both so they are easy to handle. Interior space is 54″ long ,15. 5″wide and 8. 5″deep so there is a lot of room for guns or gear of all kinds.

Six latches (two on the ends and four on the face) lock it closed and there are two places you can pad lock it for security. They usually come with foam inserts and you can get additional foam for the interior online.

Got mine used surplus and they are just what I was looking for. Super solid case.

Decided to try nanuk from pelican and Plano lineups. Visually their very nice compared to the other two I have used and I recommend them to anyone who takes pride in product ownership. I would classify this case as a showcase unit for your gear.

Besides it’s great looks you can’t beat a lifetime warranty, especially in today’s world of off shore products. This brings me to a key selling point and that is the fact that nanuk is made in Canada and I’m supporting the Canadian economy and putting food on the table for fellow Canadian families.

I’m a firm believer in supporting your home country or at very least your continent. Not only do you get a great case, but your also receiving top notch customer support from David. He shows great interest in your hobbies and intended case use and he does so well before I committed to nanuk cases.

To me this is just as valuable as the product itself. David will get back to you the same day or the very next business day with any questions or concerns you may have. On a side note I’m still trying to establish communication with another unnamed company that I gave over $2000 from nearly a month ago and they have corporate offices in Canada and USA.

The dollar amount of a product is irrelevant and support should be there wether the item is $10 or $1000, which is why I was sold on nanuk. I have not had a chance to use my new case, but it’s very robust and sleek.

If your after those features along with lifetime warranty and the best customer service I’ve personally encountered (I’m a small business owner and deal with this daily) than stop looking at other brands and send David your questions and case demands and he will not steer you wrong.

These cases are used by professionals in many fields and by average joes who take pride in product ownership and showcasing their hard work. You will not find a better latching mechanism on any case or toolbox for that matter and that statement is coming from a guy who owns/operates a vehicle diagnostic/repair shop.

I’ve seen my fair share of cases and toolboxes over my career and not even top tool brands have anything remotely close to this latch design. I’ve broken a lot of latches from thousands of dollars worth of scanner cases with my most recent latch failure on my high end scanner.

Latch came undone while doing a mobile call and the scanner fell out and damaged the side portion of it. For this reason I will be upgrading my diagnostic equipment with nanuk cases. My suggestion is to try one, you really can’t loose.

The only thing I must warn people about is that you will want to upgrade all your cases to nanuk once you’ve held one in your hand haha! I will do a full review once I have the time and the rest of my gear, but for now I highly recommend nanuk.

The price is inexpensive and I judge prices based on the content your protecting. To me a case is worth at bare minimum 50% of the product your trying to protect. Why? Because it saves you from running around getting your broken item fixed or replaced which would take days to weeks and that means down time and additional costs.

A high quality case will save you thousands of dollars. It’s not if it will save you money, it’s when! That dreaded day is when you will thank nanuk or wish you had one. I live my life by Murphy’s Law, if it can happen it will happen, which is why I invest in quality protection especially since the cost is a very small fraction of product repair/replacement.

Simply amazing! Bought the Nanuk 995 as I already own a Pelican 1750 and can say without a doubt I will choose Nanuk over Pelican any day. To start the 995 is 52″ by 14. 5″ while the 1750 is only 50.

5″ by 13. 5″ (Both interior measurements) The 995 has a foamless weight of 21. 6 lbs and the Pelican is 23. 5 lbs which helps if you plan on taking it on a flight, or plan on taking on foot during an outdoor trip.

The Nanuk case features 2 spring loaded handles which may seem unnecessary but when you constantly have to push the handles in on your Pelican case to fit it into a truck or storage the spring loaded handles are a dream.

With your Nanuk case you get 4 power claw latches that secure the case in the event that you don’t have locks, 2 of which also have TSA locks installed on them which you would have to buy seperate TSA approved locks if you purchased a Pelican case.

Both the Nanuk and Pelican case come with pressure equalizer valves so there are points to both products, as well as both Nanuk and Pelican both have Polyurethane wheels and stainless steel bearings both get points but the Nanuk wheels are thinner which I find helps turning the case when wheeling it around as compared to the Pelican 1750 which has wider wheels requiring a bit more force to turn it.

The Nanuk 995 also has the design feature of being stackable with other Nanuk cases so if you need a large number of these for surveying, construction, photography, etc you have that option while Pelican cases I don’t believe they do.

Pelican does give the unique option to have a custom name plate added to your case order while I haven’t seen that option on any Nanuk cases, depends on what you want but I find that a cool feature. But by far the most important thing is that Nanuk cases are made in Canada with a high quality of craftsmanship that I will continue to buy and hope this review convinces anyone looking for a high quality case!.

Ever since I purchased my Nanuk 935 for my handguns and love it, I swore to myself that I would buy the same kind of protection for my expensive LRR’s (long range rifles). With the weather being so damp half of the year on Vancouver island, I needed something that could protect my firearms from moisture and damage.

A BIG thank you to David for giving us a 50% off for the Christmas holiday. So I finally purchased 2 Nanuk 995’s (Tan & Olive) for myself in December and all I can say is that just like my 935, the quality of the product far exceeds any other products I looked at.

I very seldom write reviews on products unless it meets my strict standards, but when there is to be an exception to be made, these cases are definitely it. So do yourself a favor and purchase the best protection for your investments you can buy.

You’ll be tanking yourself for making a very sound decision. I have yet to find anything that I don’t like about these cases. The craftsmanship, the look and the price are excellent. Thank you again David for making such a great product and making the transactions so simple.

Typical Pelican product. Very tough, very well made, and will probably last indefinitely. I carry two tall C-stands with arms, and two short C-stands with arms in it. Weighs a * ton with all that inside but the wheels make is easy to move around.

This case joins four other Pelican cases I have.

I have seen the ShotLock and wanted one for home defense. Being a dad of five kids, I wanted accessibility but also safety. Love the design and how it racks with my Benelli. I placed it behind a curtain in my bedroom and it also looks super cool 🙂 Definitely would recommend it.

I was looking for a tactical type locker for my shot gun and this fit the bill! Easy to assemble and mount. The mechanical combination was what I wanted so I don’t have to worry about batteries! Lastly, Armadillo’s price and service were top notch! Thanks!.

Bombproof and childproof construction. Replaced my Drago twin 36in soft-case with tons of accessory pouches within a day due to lack of weather-proofing, and more importantly – security. The iM3100 is the same quality you would expect from Pelican but slightly lighter tham the Mil-spec case I had to bag drag around from Fl to Afghanistan.

4 lock positions for security and keeping the curious away. Customized to fit anything you need to take to the range – and you can order the foam separate if you mess up the layout or upgrade for more toys.

Highly durable, secure and will last forever. If you have lasers and optics – this is the case you must have.

this is my 2nd rifle case. my first case was made by Plano and is about $ cheaper. I thought it was a good case — and it was for the money — but this case is far superior to that one. the solid foam of this case is more dense than the pick-and-pluck foam of the Plano case and seems to be lasting longer.

while initially a little more difficult to custom fit your items, the end result looks much better than the pick-and-pluck foam — especially diagonal lines. the pick-and-pluck foam also is starting to separate so all of the solid areas where pieces were not removed look like an array of little columns of foam instead of a solid surface like the Pelican foam does.

lot of videos on YouTube about best ways to arrange your layout and cut your foam. I have to agree that a cheap electric knife is probably the best tool for the job.

I bought this for my mirrorless camera and accessories. Although the price seems steep, the quality of the case is totally worth it. It doesn’t look/feel cheap. You can buy small padlocks to keep the case secure.

The foam inside this case is premium quality. It’s not already precut, so you’ll have to do it yourself. I bought an electric poultry knife for around $20. 00 at Best Buy as well to cut foam evenly, as suggested by another users comment.

Makes it much easier to cut correctly and hey you can cut thanksgiving turkey or a whole chicken later if need be. Win-win situation. Highly recommended.

This is an old-style, traditional case for a take-down (double barrel) shotgun, very unobtrusive, convincingly safe (since the gun is broken down for transit). It matches my Boyt cases and stores more coveniently in the back of the car than a long case.

The barrel is secured from interfering with the stock and action by a stout canvas partition. Interior is soft. Perfectly satisfied with this traditional piece of gear.

This case is strong and tough, even though it’s soft-sided! I have the 28″ version for my 20ga O/U and it was a little too short for my 12ga O/U (28″ barrel length), so I bought this one, and it’s perfect.

The pocket is a bit tight with my 12ga choke tubes, but it works. It’s perfect for 20ga tubes. Waxed canvas is good against the rain. I bought it when I lived in the Pacific NW, where it rains or drizzles ALL.

THE. TIME. My gun never got wet. It also looks really classy, in an old-school way.

I really like this gun case. It is made with high quality, and in my opinion is better than similar style higher priced Boyt cases. The crying handle is a great feature and the legit leather buckle on the side pocket is nice too.

The heavy padded welting around the zipper opening is additional security against damage. I got the case for a specific gun and I got the 28″ case for the 28″ gun. I feel like the case maybe could be a little bit longer than it is for a tad more room for the barrel.

My 28″ barrel with a rib extension is a snug fit. But not too tight. I considered exchanging it for a 30″ case just for the extra room, but I decided to use it as is since there really isnt anything wrong with it.

I bought this to ship lights. It’ll certainly get the job done, but I do not like the 50/50 lid to bottom ratio. I wish it just had a normal lid with hinges rather than a lid that completely detaches.

It’s a good price for the amount of protection you get. I’m just not crazy about the design. Unfortunately, this design was the only option for the size I needed. Pick and pluck foam was easy to use.

Pelican makes great durable cases. However this case does not hinge. It is basically two halves that come apart. I asked B&H customer service before I purchased this if it separated and hinged. He said it hinged and it does not.

Overall great solid case.

Our team at Krash Creative bought the case specifically for shipping our LED light kit, and stands. It has worked perfectly as the case is incredibly rugged and strong, yet the padding inside keeps everything safe and sound.

We picked this case specifically because of the individually removable foam pieces inside.

Got my “banana yellow” Nanuk 918 6-lens case primarily for storage. Tired of seeing all of those lenses on various desk and table tops. Fits the bill quite nicely and I find it surprisingly compact. Some advice for a future buyer: 1- Please note that the insert is made of hard, not soft foam.

As such, depending on the diameter of a particular lens it may be a tight fit (although you can always use a knife to widen a given cavity). My observation is that most Nikon or Canon DSLR primes (1.

4s and most probably up to 105 or even 135 mm) should fit, although some rather tightly. Standard DSLR zooms (24-70 f2. 8 or f4) should also fit (but without the lens hoods). Exotic DSLR primes (such as a Zeiss Milvus) would probably not fit without manually widening the diameter of the cavity.

Forget a fitting in a 70-200 mm (f4 or 2. 8). Obviously, if your kit is mirrorless then most lenses would fit quite nicely (perhaps even a 70-200).

This is a very good case. It’s my sixth case from nanuk. I think that they don’t have many people testing this case for use that have experience with revolvers. There is a large area under the barrels that is solid foam.

Revolvers have extra cylinders and speed loaders this area should have holes cut out for this purpose. It’s wasted space that should be used for this. It holds my revolvers very well.

I wanted a case to protect some of my lenses. I have 2 pelican cases, one of which I use for my Magmods but since I got the Nanuk 918 I much prefer these cases. I am in the process of ordering a 930 custom insert case for my Lensball collection using my case builder.

I am going to get another one down the road, I’m thinking the 935 but not sure yet. Like the closing hatches better than the Pelican and I personally think they are more secure.
