20 Best Tape For Moving (2022 Updated)

This tape has several improvements from previous Scotch packing tape that I’ve used. First, it’s very easy to start using. Also, the tape doesn’t split down the middle like other packing tapes sometimes do (some tapes I’ve used almost seem to shred when you’re trying to unwind them to use).

It’s a good, strong packing tape without even being listed as heavy duty. I got my tape already on the dispenser and the one thing I didn’t like was that it seemed like it was on the dispenser backwards.

The way it was on there, the tape stuck to the cutter every time you finished using it and it seemed awkward to pull it against the cutter to get it to cut. I took the roll out of the dispenser, flipped it around so the tape was coming off the other way, put it back on it and it worked MUCH better.

I would definitely buy this tape again. It’s really a good quality tape.

Timing is everything as I received my free Scotch Sure Start tape during the packing up of my in-laws as they were scheduled to move in a few weeks. Since all family members were enlisted to help, I was the only one the new Sure Start Tape and I became the fastest sealer of the boxes.

This tape is so easy to use it was incredible. It unwinds off the roll with ease, it doesn’t break or split and cuts easily. Since everyone else was struggling with other tapes I was elected to seal all boxes.

Plus it came off the role quietly. I gladly accepted the challenge due to this product. I did not want to use any other tape as this tape really did spoil me. As a big user of packaging tape for many chores around house I stock up on Sure Start Tape.

Defective batch from Scotch maybe? This is the only item I have ever returned to Staples. I opened the package and attempted to load the first roll in my packing dispenser. The first indication of trouble was that it required a knife tip inserted below the “starter strip” to get the end of the tape free.

The major problem was that one could only pull about 6″ of tape from the roll before the tape tore off and had to be re-started. After walking the Staples cashier through the problem and having him try it for himself, my return was accepted with no problem.

I bought Staples “generic” brand tape to replace the Scotch tape for 1/2 the price – no problems!.

Scotch markets this tape as “TOUGH GRIP”, when in fact it should read NO GRIP. This tape did not stick to my moving boxes. Total waste of money. Disappointed because Scotch Brands are normally good/trusted products.

I gave it a 1 star rating because there wasn’t anything lower.

I opened the roll and as soon as i started to pull the tape out I noticed it was oddly quiet. I thought maybe that was a feature, which is cool—they solved that loud tape pulling sound! NO it’s because there is no glue.

3M has made reliably good tape (and products, overall) so maybe this was a bad batch. But my lord was this stuff useless. And of course I tried all 3 rolls so I couldn’t return them. Didn’t adhere to the boxes, 2 or 3 were just popped open, unstuck tape floating in the breeze.

Great price if you need 36 rolls. The tape feels pretty sturdy and is very sticky, clinging to corrugated cardboard nicely. It’s noisy when you roll it out, which some folks might not like. My only complaint is that it often has streaks in the surface when you tape it down, which might interfere with the UPC on mailing labels.

I accidently bought the lightweight packing tape. It’s garbage! It kept tearing into strips. Returned it and bought this. The good stuff. I won’t make that mistake again. This stuff is great!

Tape is very cheap, almost dollar store quality , has a horrible smell Company it comes from lost my first package Staples should be ashamed to sell this junk of a product.

This tape grips so well, one has to be careful when applying it because if it touches anything else other than the area it’s intended to be, it’s a real fight to get it to unstick. Also, when pulling it off its roll, be careful not to pull too quickly as it has a tensency to curl and then the length is useless because you’ll never get it to unstick from itself.

This tape is difficult to work with. You just have to decide if you want to spend more money on a tape that might be easier to work with, or less, and deal with this. this gets a lot of white lines running through – like if you stop mid pull it will create a white line – stop again – boom, another white line & it and it can split into more than one piece when you try to pull down on it as a whole.

BUT, it also gets a job done. It’s stick is just fine.

I’ve been using heavy duty packaging tape for a long time but this one cannot say for heavy duty packaging. It’s thin and no different with low price tape. I won’t buy again.

Perfect for packing. Never had difficulty with it tearing in pieces. I hate that. Makes me throw it the trash. This is nice, thick and does what packing tape is supposed to do without added stress. Price was perfect too! I’d recommend it and buy it again if I needed it.

I got this last week and it’ll be my go to brand for packing tape for sure. It’s very strong. I used it to close my Halloween decoration boxes for storage. It’s easy to peel off if / when it falls into itself and it didn’t rip as I separated it and put it back into the slot.

It’s a good size and seems to come with a lot of tape. I haven’t went thru the whole roll yet and I’ve used what I consider a lot and I still have PLENTY left. The cutting end is very sharp which makes nice, clean, cuts that are easy and accurate.

I’ll be using this for many projects from simple wrapping to holding stronger things together. I know it can handle it and I definitely will be recommending this brand to everyone I know who uses a lot of packing tape.

I tried Duck Max Strength Packing Tape and thought it was great! It is very strong and the adhesive works well. I used it to tape up packages I was mailing to family for the holidays. Some were quite heavy and my concern is that they will break, rip or open.

This packing tape is really sturdy and I experienced no issues with it. The tape on the packages was intact upon arrival to various family members. I will definitely purchase this and highly recommend it!.

Used the tape for years, lately the adhesive has been weaker. But, overall its still my favorite packing tape for the price so far. Nice thick packing tape that is about right, not easy to tear and thin enough to cut easily in the dispenser.

The smell and the stickiness has changed recently. I have noticed it does not stick as well on cold cardboard boxes. I hope the strong adhesive returns. I uses about 16 rolls a month and my last few rolls have been crystal clear, but not as sticky as I like.

Its not enough change to stop buying it yet, but I will be switching if the adhesive stays weak like it is now. At $17. 00 for an eight pack its a good alternative to the much more costly Scotch HD tape I also use.

Only packaging tape product to use in a 3″ wide tape roller metal packaging device. The wider tape is able to hold the box edges more securely and can require less overall tape and time for proper sealing of box packaging.

Worked well. The roll is limited to approx. 20 yards, but if one doesn’t need the tape roll yards for heavy commercial (business) packaging, it does the “job” for smaller volume jobs.

The other day I was packing up a ton of belongings, and was running late for my flight. Even so, I had to visit Office Depot and when I did, I found this and decided to buy it. Like all Gorilla tape, it tends to be stronger than most conventional tapes.

But, because it was tear-resistant, ‘wider’ in tape-size, and came with a good tearing-blade, what made it particularly useful was that it let me get the packing done FAST. So, if you’re in a real hurry, and can’t risk losing a few minutes to fiddling with your tape, then this might really help you out.

Gorilla tape is great for sealing large envelopes and packages. For envelopes, may be an overkill because lighter postal tape can be used. Thickness almost like laminating sheets so quick study. While not as pliable as duct tape, can certainly be used in a pinch.

Very happy with purchase, have purchased before so I knew what I was getting.

i saw the display of Scotch tapes at Walmart and noticed the BOX LOCK was twice as expensive as the other Scotch tapes. Since I ship a lot, I decided to invest in the BOX LOCK. The first package I taped up, by the time I reached the post office it was lifting off the cardboard box package.

I had some double-stick tape with me to help reseal it. The second package I taped up did the same thing. I called Scotch’s customer service and they basically tried to justify why the tape wasn’t working, and had no solution other than trying all three of the other three rolls to see if they performed better.

For spending twice as much, they could only replace it with the regular priced HEAVY DUTY brand of Scotch tape, because they carry 70,000 products, they can’t just take care of my concern. I always held Scotch brand products as the best.

Offering justifications rather than solutions for product non-performance is an outpoint. I can’t figure out how to upload or download a picture I emailed to myself so I can show how the tape performed.

This tape is heavy duty, sticky, easy to get off the roll, works well over shipping labels, lays flat and is a good price. Staples shipping is awesome as well. thanks!

Best deal I could find on tape. Works as good as any other I’ve used. Strong and sticky.

Many of the negative (1, 2, and 3-star) reviews are incompetent: people buying lightweight tape and then complaining about the properties of lightweight tape. If you want heavyweight tape, then buy heavyweight tape.

This is storage tape. If you are willing to trade a reduction in strength for neat taping with excellent long-term adhesion, then I recommend this tape for you. The tapelines are clean and boxes on shelves do not need heavyweight tape.

And, most extra strong shipping tapes do not have long-term adhesion properties. I have boxes on shelves for a decade, and the tape adheres a well as the day I packed them.

This tape sticks to itself somewhat fine, but the one thing that you would want it to stick to – moving boxes and cardboard boxes – it does not stick at all. I mean it will stick initially but five minutes later you’ll come back and find the tape peeling away from the box on its own.

I had boxes open while carrying them and when shipping them with this tape. Hands-down the worst packing tape I’ve ever purchased. You may think that the Staples brand is trustworthy or this is saving you money, but please think again.

By the name brands because this tape sucks and you are regret your purchase instantly.

I bought this tape for use in packing/shipping packages. It does a really poor job of sticking to the surfaces of cardboard boxes. It takes me at least two layers to ensure that the adhesive will actually take to the box.

For light-duty jobs, this tape is probably fine. If I’m shipping a package cross-country, it fails miserably. I’ll use up what’s left of the package. But from now on, I’m going 3M. You get what you pay for.

I’m known for mailing heavy packages (near 50lbs. at times) using this 3in. packing tape I know my packages are secure I actually save money over the 2in. tapes, not needing to use multiple passes. Peace of mind knowing I’m safe, my recipient is safe, even the delivery person is safe.

I was trying to save a few pennies by using this budget tape, but unfortunately I had to throw it away – a total loss. I’ts made in China and gives off such a strong chemical odor that I couldn’t continue to use it.

It was extremely irritating and the tape was not only difficult to work with but it did not stick very well either.

I bought this tape for my shipping basically because it was very cheap as compared to the others. I wasn’t sure about the quality of the tape considering its price. But I was totally surprised. It is as good as some of the renowned brands.

I have used this on plastic bag packaging and it seemed strong and secure, really pleased as the usual reviews for any product range from ‘this is the worst!’ to ‘this is the best!’ so you never know what you’re getting but thankfully this seems strong, doesn’t split and sticks well.

We normally buy genuine cellotape but tried this as a cheaper alternative. Performance wise, it is great tape. The only negative for us is getting it on and off the spool in the dispenser. It takes all my strength to get on and off the dispenser – the staff cannot manage it at all.

Tried it on another table dispenser with the same results. Will probably stick with the original stuff.

This tape is easy to use with a tape gun and is the correct strength for parcels. The tape is strong and sticky enough to hold parcels but not to strong to make it difficult to use. It is also easy to break off after use and does not crumple round the tap gun.

Having family in another state, I frequently am sending gifts for birthdays, anniversarys, etc. This means boxing up gifts and mailing them. This tape is excellent for sealing boxes. The tape is heavy and seals extremely well.

When using UPS, I print my own labels and this tape is perfect for covering that label and still allows them to scan. It is easy to dispense, cut and apply. In fact, one can use the dispenser to affix the tape to the side of the box and pull it over and down onto the other side of the box and quickly cut it using the cutter in the dispenser.

It’s also great for repairing torn large items like a display poster. I find this tape as an intergal part of my home office not only for shipping but also for many other tasks that require a heavy duty tape.

This was my second purchase of the Gorilla Heavy Duty Packaging tape. This product is turly heavy duty – much thicker than other packing tape, never needing more than one application. Cheaper tapes will tear, have trouble pulling off the roll and sometime require multiple passes to be sure of safe sealing.

That said, Gorilla is also more expensive, around 25% more than comparable quality heavly duty tape and of course much more versus cheaper house brand. While the percentage price difference is large, the overall cost is only about $1 difference.

Well worth it for me.

I Gorilla taped some extra foam onto a dual sport motorcycle seat before a charity 17,000km ride across Canada and back. Through intense heat and the worst rainstorms it never gave a hint of letting go.

Only came off after 3 more years of riding when I took it off because the foam wore out. Fixes tears in tents and raingear. Tape a few feet of it around a water bottle like a roll and you’ll always have some.

If you want duck tape that actually works, pay a little bit of a difference and you get a tape that has a very strong hold. It is affordable but so much better than the Duck tape brand. It sticks to all surfaces and just like any other tape, it does leave a sticky residue when removing if it’s been on for awhile, but just use some goo gone and the sticky residue comes right off.

But I definitely will recommend this tape over any other duck tape.

I’m using this tape and Staples permanent glue stick for labels I adhere to canning jars and plastic containers. I use the tape as a glossy top for labels and cut it around the edges. Between the tape and the glue, they stick so good that I can handwash the containers and jars in very hot water with liquid dish soap and the labels do not peel or separate at the edges, or come off.

Even if I see that water has gotten on the label under the tape, it dries back to normal and the label is secure. I thought for sure the soap would loosen or separate the tape from the paper (label), but it doesn’t.

Being impressed, I put the labeled jars in the dishwasher. The labels were a mess after that. I’ll stick to handwashing. The dispenser is no trouble for me. After using it, I pull a little out, bring it up and over the back of the left and right “threading tabs” and stick it to the top of each tab with a little sticking out so I don’t have to search for it on the roll.

This works for me. I haven’t had a problem with it tearing. I am using it for light activity. It tears well off the dispenser blade. I have not yet used it for packing heavy boxes, so I can’t comment on its strength in that way.

It is called shipping packaging tape, so it is used for some kind of packages. Scotch/3M may offer a packing weight maximum for it. It’s not very thick, it’s also not very thin. It is sturdy. I have a roll of another brand without a dispenser and it has yellowed and the tape is so thin it is almost impossible to find the leading edge.

It takes forever. That’s why I got this new tape. I’m sure if I put that other tape in this dispenser I will have problems with it tearing and twisting and sticking to itself. I’ve had this Sure Start at least 6 months and it hasn’t yellowed.

I will say this Sure Start is good. I am happy with it. I plan to buy more.
