I collect hyenas. I’m something of a hyena geek because I draw a web cartoon with anthro hyenas as the main characters. I have almost every hyena figurine available. This one’s cute, but it doesn’t look like a spotted hyena–although the paint job is for a spotted hyena, the body shape more closely resembles a striped or a brown hyena.
The ears and face are wrong for a spotted hyena. I’m considering contacting the manufacturer and pointing this out. There’s lots of spotted hyena figurines on the market, and not so many of striped hyenas, brown hyenas or aardwolves.
It would be kind of a shame if the sculptor’s otherwise nice work got an incorrect paint job. My husband thinks it’s supposed to be a young spotted hyena, but the ears still don’t look right.
I’ve bought a couple of these Papo figures and I’ve been happy with them. I bought this one specifically to use with an old Aurora model kit of King Kong. As King Kong is often cited as being anywhere from 25 to 40 foot tall, I figured I would have a little lee way with this Pteranodon.
The oft quoted wing span for the pteranodon is 20 feet. As this one is nine inches it scales out to approximately 1/27 scale. (20 feet is 240 inches. 240/9=26. 66) For purpose of modeling in sci-fi and fantasy I think this pteranodon works well for 1/24 or 1/25 scale.
Or it could be a some one large pteranodon among 1/32 or 1/35 scale its. Of course in the world of fantasy anything really goes. Th figure is nicely sculpted with excellent skin detail and nice coloring.
The hard rubber used to make the figure is tough, durable and flexible. While it looks fantastic, for my purposes I needed to paint it and give the hard rubber sculpting some washes of black paint. I was able to do this Tamiya acrylic based paints with no problem.
I’m not sure if enamel paints would have an effect on the hard rubber. Of course this is just a bonus for model builders. I suspect most people will not be painting them. Most likely people who buy this are prehistoric animal enthusiasts and as suchI give these Papo toys a bg thumbs up.
I think they’d prove quite enjoyable for age appropriate play toys as well as useful for dioramas.

If you are looking for a perfect night box look no further. I have a small pet snail and he has a 10gal Tank down stairs but it gets way too hot down there at night when I turn off the air conditioner.
So I wanted something he had plenty of room to feel free in when I brought him upstairs but another 10gal. Tank was too much. It was just for the night as I said. now with this tall and pretty wide glass cage (he has for night) he has it all!! It was EXACTLY what I had hoped it would be.
If you have any kind of insect or very small pet I can truly say you will be happy with this tank. And it comes with everything already included!!!! Perfect perfect perfect !!!!! I could not be happier !! (And neither could Gary!!! (The snail).
While I think the size and height of this tank are great and I can see a lot of potential in it I am sad to see a crack in the glass that I didn’t notice at first when I bought it. I have had this on a shelf unused and when I went to set up an enclosure a 2 inch crack at the top caught my eye.

I bought two of these and the plastic clips broke off one lid on the first day; this leaves a hole on the top of the tank. The plastic trim under the lid was broken on the other tank before I opened it – so the lid can wobble and fall into the tank.
