20 Best Tarp For Hammock (2022 Updated)

Haven’t had too much opportunity to use this yet due to Covid etc (bought it right before our last lockdown). It’ll definitely be getting plenty more use over the next few months so time will tell. Initial thoughts though- having had regular weight tarps til now, this one definitely felt a bit flimsy at first and the fabric is so thin, but it’s actually quite strong and seems to be well constructed.

I added in a few additional DD lightweight pegs and some extra guy ropes to give me more versatility for pitching. Takes up hardly any space and weight is bugger all. Happy so far!.

On examination when received noticed several sections of the tarp stitching was coming undone ( other reviewers made similar comments ). Would have given only one star but the quality of the tarp was fairly good.

Poor craftsmanship/quality control from DD tarps which is a shame as I try to buy UK manufactured products. Tarmarack Outdoors first class service including very prompt refund on return of tarp.

Some of the tabs have not been stitched in a straight line, or the stitching is straight but the tab is not. So far, I can’t comment on the waterproofing but the strength of the fabric is good. From my experience, and what I have heard elsewhere, it seems that DD need to improve their quality control somewhat.

Took the green color tarp to the field for 22 days and it did not disappoint. I received a lot of rain during that time and it did not wet through. It is lightweight and packable. I definitely recommend.

Only con is that I already noticed a very tiny tear by where the guy line is located. It may be due to the tension that I was doing.

Used this on my wife’s hammock when we had a terrible storm and hail. This held up perfectly while my cheap tarp couldn’t stay staked down and was a mess in the jail and rain and wind. The next day we went to the camping store in town and I bought another ENO tarp like this.

I am a wilderness therapist and my office is located somewhere in the woods on any given day. I needed a lightweight and versatile tarp to provide shelter from rain or sun depending on the season. This pack is super lightweight and packs small enough that it lives in my pack without causing hassle.

It goes up so easily. The first time I set it up I tied my hitches around a tree, then I realized it has a pull tab to adjust the length of the cord easy-peasy. I personally also love that it comes in a fun pattern.

I don’t currently have my hammock, but I still use this a lot! Its great to throw up over my cooking/sitting area at the campsite for some shade or shelter from rain. It packs down small and light without much fuss.

I wish the storage bag was sliiiightly larger, but its not a big deal, just takes a bit of extra shoving to put it away. Otherwise its great!.

I ordered this on Saturday, hoping it’ll arrive in Hamilton by Thursday or Friday for a survival course the weekend. It arrived on Tuesday am @7:30. This is normal shipping, not urgent. I am so impressed, and will definitely be back to buy more outdoor equipment in the future from them.

Can’t wait to use the tarp, feels like good quality material and it’s pretty light too.

Its length and width makes it idea for your base camp. Could fit 10 eating, 5 pers under on the ground sleeping with kit easy, or 3 maybe 4, in hammocks if you found the right spot. Well made. Throw away the cord and pegs for NZ bush.

Replace with decent paracord and better pegs.

Pegs and guy ropes aren’t the greatest, replaced mine with aluminium pegs and thicker chord. The tarp itself is fantastic. Tough as nails and boy is it big, maybe too big. If I had to buy again, I would go for the 3×3.

This thing is great. I now try to find an excuse to bring it anywhere I can. It’s really comfortable, easy to set up (you need the straps separately), and looks great. Packs down to a softball size not including the straps.

I’ve taken it backpacking, to the park, and even set it up indoors — it’s that awesome. In my experience, if you’re trying to fit two people inside, it’s easiest if you’re facing the same way. Happy Hammocking!.

DD are widely acknowledged as makers of quality products. I have not used this tarp yet but it looks and feels great. You can get similar sized traps much more cheaply but I do think you get what you pay for with DD.

Many tie out points and cord retention straps create a highly adaptable and functional piece of kit. Highly recommended!

Good overall tarp which i use over a Nakie hammock or as a grounds shelter works like i wanted and is a alright multi camo.

Super easy to setup up. I was setting it up and stowing it in the dark with no problem. The bag is a little tight but if you get all air out of it, it goes right in with the stakes rolled in the middle.

I just wish it was one uniform color on both halves on the logo side. When strung up like a tent, one half ended up being blue while the other half is gray. It would have been better for one whole side to be blue and the other to be gray but that’s just my OCD kicking in.

It kept me dry and warm on the nights it rained. No functional issues so far.

Purchased as a kitchen fly for a five person backpacking trip. Haven’t put it to use yet, but I did a thorough inspection when it arrived. Very well constructed, stitching and seams are rock solid and lines and stakes are good quality.

A solid A rating so far.

I used it and returned it. It worked well enough, but there was much room for improvement. Build quality is top notch, materials and stitching are very high quality. No complaints about product construction.

My issues are all with the product design. It does a good job at providing full coverage over a hammock for camping or lounging. It’s big enough to cover your hammock setup, but it needs help. Other vendors are offering better coverage with more flexibility and less weight an equivalent or better price.

ENO and REI have better tarps, you just have to figure out what best meets your needs. For anybody but the most casual fair weather hammock camper, this product is too heavy and doesn’t have enough tie-downs.

It’s not a 3 season solution to hammock camping, and *really* it’s not a complete 4-season system — it’s total junk in the wind. It’s a big, heavy, expensive solution to 1 season camping needs. Other vendors offer hammock tarps made from lighter materials with better coverage at a similar price.

If you backpack at all, don’t spend your bucks on this product, there are better options. ENO and REI have better stuff, look at the ProFly, HouseFly or DryFly first, or keep looking for other options.

The bottom line is that hammock camping is becoming more popular, and your options are changing quickly. REI and ENO are a little behind the curve. Shop around before you commit.

I received the tribal print and it’s even prettier than the pictures!!! Super easy and quick to set up! Lighter weight than my current rain fly and covers more ground space as well! Excited for more hammock camping this fall!.

It was tricky to figure out the stakes interlock for a more secure fasten and it didn’t hold up in 20 mph wind gusts, but it works for a light rainstorm.

Only used once so far but it’s great. Lightweight and seems to be very durable. The size of perfect for a single or double wide hammock cover.

Great quality. It’s in great quality and very easy to set up. It’s also very lightweight and super easy to carry in my backpack.

I purchased my Eno Pro Fly from Moosejaw. I always wanted one and they were having a sale. It arrived quickly. I set it up in my side yard to test it. It’s easy to set up with the included lines. The material is top notch along with the stitching.

I had my son get in the hammock while I blasted it with the water hose. No water penetrated the material. I am glad I bought it.

I have never used tarps before and would always wait out any rain in the tent but this year decided to use a tarp and first trip it poured all day. This kept us dry and we were able to spend the day outside of the tent reading and cooking in our camp chairs under the tarp.

Absolutely worth the weight to bring with you!!.

I have to be honest I haven’t used this tarp on a backpacking trip yet. I find it reasonably light, though not as light as my older scout tarp. Seems well made and should provide decent shelter. It’s dark blue and I would prefer a brighter colour to sit under during a rain squall but that’s aesthetics only.

I purchased this tarp for my dad who hiked the AT in 2019. He did half the trail tenting, half hammocking. I did the same thing in 2016 with ENO’s more heavy-duty rain fly (don’t remember what its called).

I loved it, but worried the ProFly Sil Rain Tarp might not keep my dad dry. Well, my concern was for naught! He loved it, it’s lighter weight, and he never once got wet on stormy, rainy, windy nights.

I did a lot of research before I landed on this tarp. I love the weight for the size and the benefit of having a reflective side. I love the two tie-downs on the side in addition to the corners for versatility in setup options and allowing the ends to be folded in for weather protection.

The cord pockets are a nice extra too. I made a minor change by retying the overhand knots in the cord into stopper knots. My main disappointment was the durability of the fabric holding the stakes in the stuff sack.

In just two weeks of stuffing into a dry bag or a backpack the fabric looked worn around the stakes and one poked through. Putting the stakes in their slots before stuffing it can help prolong that from happening, but a little beefier material for holding the stakes would be nice especially as the stakes get roughed up edges from use.

I also bent a stake, but that’s mostly on me because I don’t usually use rocks to pound them in, but had to in one instance. Beware if the wind pulls out your stake, it’ll whip the cords around until they tie into a rat’s nest mess of a knot.

I’ve used this tarp on most of my outings here in Canada in 2021, a couple of them very wet. The tarp is quite easy to pitch when using trees, and only takes a few minutes to set up. The amount of space it covers is considerable, which is great on a rainy night for having place to hang out, cook, and relax both before and after going to bed.

Even after nights of continuous and pretty heavy rain, my gear and I under the tarp remained dry. My only criticism is actually related to the stuff sack. Though it’s tiny the tarp does stuff into it without too much trouble.

The stake pouches however haven’t fared so well; on the first morning after camping with my Kuhli UL, I managed to tear the stuff sack when trying to stuff the stakes back into the stake storage slots on the stuff sack.

Also, when I purchased the tarp the web site listed it as including six stakes, but it only came with four. I haven’t needed the additional two stakes since I’ve been using this tarp in forest camp sites, but it would require six stakes to use this tarp with trekking poles instead of trees.

Haven’t had it long, but the Kuhli is the nicest tarp I’ve ever owned personally, and one of the nicest I’ve used over many years of being a sea kayak instructor and guide. In fairness, the “best” tarp I’ve ever personally owned has been a Kelty Noah’s tarp (an older one, before the quality tanked a bit, and which my Kuhli replaces), but I’ve also now compared the Kuhli to rather ritzy options from MSR, the Kammok option compares pretty favorably.

In any case, the Kuhli has everything I’d want in a decent shelter, namely well-sealed seams, solid ridgeline, reinforced tie-down points, good quality line at all of said tie-down points, easy-to-use quick tensioners on every line, and packs down nice and small.

One minor downside is that the nifty little slots on the outside of the bag only hold 4 stakes total, which is a shame since it takes 8 to fully stake it down when setting up longways along the full ridgeline.

I don’t mind that it doesn’t come with 8 stakes (4 is plenty much of the time), but 2 extra slots on the bag for the “missing” stakes would be preem. Overall, it’s excellent value and great quality.

Hi there Gearshop. I haven’t tryed out the tarp yet, but it was an awsme delivery and great product, Im looking forward to going bushcraft with it and i’m surrendering my tent and that old way of camping in bush and taking up bivy life with the tarp, upskilling.

Solid, well made tarp and great size to cover hammock when it’s hosing down. Unlike my current silnylon tarp, the polyester material won’t sag when wet. Lots of tie outs give huge number of options for set up as well.

I’ve had this tarp for several years. it fits over my hammock, makes a great lean-to, is big enough to be the main camp cover. I’ve had this thing out in gale force summer storms, and deep winters with a fire underneath.

smells like mildew and ash but has survived more outings than I would have guessed and it still functions like new. Seams and stitching are still tight, and not one hole to be found. One note. It’s not light.

Won’t fit inside the snakeskins I bought. That’s OK. If you need ultralight, look elsewhere. everyone else will be pleased.

I have used this nearly dozen times over the past year. So not really a longterm test. I can say that it is big, though considered heavy. I think the weight is a worthy trade off when you consider price, durability, and coverage.

While other materiels may be lighter. This stays tight in the wind and rain as polyester stretches less than other fabrics, does not “mist” through, and is more UV stable. It covers a very large area.

In a porch configuration it provides ample space and you can run it all the way to the ground when needed. Sometimes my wife and I will hang close together and share this tarp. The price speaks for itself.

The only caveats I have are related to the REI description: -It is NOT coyote brown. It is more of a dark olive. (Fine with me. ) -It is NOT asymmetrical. It is a symmetrical hex tarp. I had to contact Hennessey before purchasing to verify, as an asymmetrical would not work for me.

Have used this 3 times. After each use I folded it back up and put it away in stuff sack. On use 2 and 3 I noticed a glue-like substance running down ridge line. The tarp was glued together and when I unfolded it, it ripped off some of the Danier (sp?) and is no longer water proof.
