20 Best Tasting Melting Chocolate (2022 Updated)

I’ve ordered from S&C a few times now and I am very pleased with the company. They have become my go to for the Merckens chocolate. Shipping is expensive but they get the product out to you fast. I’ve ordered the chocolate from Amazon and others in the past, got free shipping but it took forever to receive.

Also I need a large quantity of the chocolate and I can not get my desired size anywhere else but S&C Merckens in general is the ONLY brand of melting chocolate I will use for my HCB, fruit fillings , ganache, anything that requires melted chocolate gets this.

The taste is great and they melt beautifully.

We live in Florida and this October it is very hot. My 20 lb order of Merckens Milk Chocolate Wafers was delivered to my doorstep in excellent condition with not even one wafer melted. The product was packed with cold packs inserted within the box protecting it from the high heat of Florida.

Stover packaged the best of any other company we purchased from and the pricing was very competitive. We will most certainly be back for more chocolate and other products!.

Amazing! I love this brand of melting chocolate! The price is amazing for such moist, rich, and creamy chocolate. I use this exact chocolate for my small business. It’s great for dipping strawberries, cake pops, Oreos, Rice Krispies, or for making chocolate hearts.

It cools quickly as well! I would for sure buy again no doubt 10/10.

These packets are really great and flavorful. I have tried other melting candy wafers and it didn’t have enough flavor or it burnt very fast. These didn’t burn too easy and if well mixed wouldn’t dry super fast.

It worked really well when I made dipped strawberries and dipped pretzel rods.

Best chocolate!!!! I use this for baking, and covering anything and everything I can with chocolate. Super easy to melt and it taste AMAZING!!! White Chocolate is the best but dark chocolate is good as well.

Would recommend to use especially with strawberries.

My wife & her daughter have used these melting wafers for Christmas baking for 20 plus years, packaged as celebakes. This year, as every other year, they bought approximately 60 dollars worth of melting wafers, vanilla & milk chocolate.

All of the milk chocolate crystalized almost immediately. After several attempts at melting the wafers, both on very low microwave setting, & using a double boiler, to no avail. Had to use another product.

Now out 60 bucks & will NEVER use this terrible product ever again, nor will recommend this to any of my fellow bakers. BEWARE, these melting wafers are complete garbage, & I will make sure when buying melting wafers in the future, that merckens has no process in the making, whatsoever.

The shipping was so fast and packaged very well. I ordered Merckens MC which I’ve purchased for years as my go to. They were very good worked like a charm. I also ordered Stover’s Dark Chocolate as they were out of Merckens.

This is not real chocolate but rather candy melts or confectionery coating. First, I noticed that they don’t snap or taste like chocolate is supposed to, and upon review of the ingredients I found out why.

They are listed as: sugar, partially hydrogenated palm kernel and cottonseed oil, nonfat dried milk, cocoa processed with alkali, cocoa, glyceryl lacto esters of fatty acids, soy lecithin and salt. \n\nReal chocolate is made from Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Milk, Chocolate Liquor, Soy Lecithin (an emulsifier) and Vanillin.

It’s a big deal because those are the ingredients that must be in chocolate by FDA regulations in order to be called chocolate and you will quickly realize that cocoa butter and chocolate liquor are missing in this product.

\n\nIf you’re looking for candy melts, these chocolate-flavored confectionaries are good. But if you’re looking for dark chocolate wafers, these are NOT it. They shouldn’t even be categorized with chocolate.

The only reason I gave this product a one is because shipping was quick. I thought I ordered the pure white candy melts but these were off white. I could not even use these. They would clump when I tried to melt them.

I quit buying my products at the bakery for that very reason. I did also try the white and chocolate candy melts from Etsy and they melted prefect. I am very disappointed in this product. This candy is not cheap to buy.

What an absolute waste.

I am a cake pop baker and love using this chocolate. It cools and hardens quickly and stays that way for farmer’s markets. It doesn’t get tacky, like some other chocolate does while it’s drying, and it tastes rich and delicious.

Unfortunately, my package was stolen upon arrival and the company sent me a new box right away!.

Merckens chocolates are still our choice for chocolate. Their flavor and consistency are of good quality. This shipment of chocolate was fresh. Only one shipment has not been fresh. Good quality and a good price.

I love these fkr making chocolate covered strawberries or fudge. Almost anything you want to make with chocolate is going to be better with this brand. It’s a richer and deeper chocolate flavor. I’ve found after experimenting that it’s one of my favorites.

These are delicious. The best dark chocolate I’ve ever had, although I’m far from a purist. I like them because they have quite a high sugar content; even though they have less milk (making them “dark”), they don’t taste bitter at all and are quite sweet.

It’s an interesting flavor profile because it tastes more sophisticated than the milk but it’s just as sweet. In any case, don’t make the mistake of thinking “dark” means semisweet or bittersweet. It’s not the case with this chocolate.

These melt down so easily and dry quickly. They taste like real chocolate too! I’m a chocolate snob and hate when this type of melting chocolate end up tasting like shortening. This is the best I’ve tried! I have been keeping them in stock because my husband and little boy love chocolate covered bananas and strawberries.

Its fun to make with a little too. Perfect family treat.

If I could give these 0 stars I would. These were absolutely terrible. The chocolate did not stay runny enough for me to continue dipping. After a few times of having to melt it again the consistency was basically unusable.

The only reason I bought it was because the store was out of my normal brand so I thought Ghirardelli should be a better product. Boy was I wrong! Ended up having to go to multiple stores to find my old brand, and had zero issues.

Will never use these again.

I know when I use Ghirardelli wafers in making chocolate treats that they will be smooth and will not have that “cheap” wax taste and consistency. They are so reliable! High quality as well. Yes, they are more expensive than the colored melts from other companies but the difference is miles apart.

These wafers have excellent taste, high quality finish and color. They melt evenly and easily. They were delicious in a cookie recipe for truffles this Christmas and made them look professional. Would definitely recommend them!.

Purchased this for the first time and I am in love! This chocolate is perfect out of the bag. I have always used chocolate chips or Candiquick and melted for covering pretzles, and making other candy, but they all fail in comparison to this chocolate.

These wafers are extremely smooth and taste amazing. I am now inspired to make plain milk chocolate candies just because these wafers stand alone on their own and do not need another star to make them worth eating.

My children who always sneak into my bags of chocolate chips have been searching for these since the tasted them. This is all I will buy from now on and I am so excited to see how they fit into my recipes.

Absolutely delicious! Trying these for the first time. Great when melting in a cup of coffee. Looking forward to trying other ways mentioned on the package. Hard to believe that thirteen wafers are one serving.

And better yet, that those thirteen wafers are only 160 calories!!! Do keep in a cool dry place as recommend. Definitely, melt in my mouth DELICIOUS!.

Just want to clear up a few misconceptions: 1. One reviewer complained that “it’s not chocolate”: The only one to blame here is Target – Ghirardelli does not even call this product “chocolate”, they call it “Melting Wafers”! The reason is that to melt (real) chocolate and make sure it’s solid and shiny again at room temperature after cooling, it needs to be tempered, which can be a very fickle and time-consuming process.

Do a Google search for “Tempering Chocolate”. The Palm Oil in these wafers does not need to be tempered, it just solidifies when cooled to room temperature without hassle. If you store your covered strawberries in the fridge, you can use real chocolate (just get a bag of choc chips) and carefully melt it in the microwave at 50% power.

It will be solid in the fridge even without tempering. 2. Another reviewer complained that the product was melted on arrival: This is no big deal, you’ll melt the wafers anyway! Just put the bag in the fridge, it will be a big clump that can then be melted (carefully!) following the instructions.

Maybe be even more careful with the power level and melt at 30-40%. Bottom line: For what it is (candy coating, NOT chocolate), this is an excellent product. If you make chocolate covered strawberries, you can use real chocolate and store them in the fridge.

For truffles and nut clusters, you’ll have to temper the chocolate to make it solid and shiny at room temperature.

I have been using Ghirardelli melting chocolate for at least 15 years. It started as a big block and change to wafers. It is so easy to melt and taste so good. We use it for Christmas goodies and one year could not find it.

We tried just using chocolate chips and many of our family and friends noticed a difference. This is the best flavor of all!!.

I have been using this chocolate every other year since 2006. I am a high school class sponsor and am in charge of prom every other year. The chocolate fountain is always a huge hit with everyone and the only chocolate I will buy is this brand.

It melts like a dream, flows beautifully (when I use two bags in my chocolate fountain), tastes great and works perfectly the entire night. which is usually about 7 hours). I have had other sponsors ask what chocolate to buy when they have borrowed my fountain for other events and I tell them that this is the absolute best brand to get.

I have had others that tell me about this amazing deal they found and that they saved tons of money buying a different brand, only for them to come to me the night of the event when they can’t get it to work right.

Yep, you saved lots of money. it doesn’t work. As a sponsor of high school activities, I have enough worries on my plate that I don’t need to mess with and worry about chocolate for the chocolate fountain too.

I will only buy this brand. end of story. I’ll save my stress for other things!.

People pay for convenience in America. Bottled water is successful for a reason, and this chocolate satisfies that quality. The taste is middle of the road for chocolate, and the price is very high for what you are getting, but the convenience of being able to simply microwave the chocolate and pour it into the fountain validates the cost in situations where you are time pressured (which often describes the times you will be using a chocolate fountain).

I purchased these last year and enjoyed them, so I bought them again when they came back into stock last month. Unfortunately, Ghirardelli changed their ingredients to now include hydrogenated oils. Why is this important? Because Sam’s Club doesn’t include the ingredients list on their website, so there was no way to tell that Ghirardelli changed their formulation.

Unfortunately, this ingredient change does affect the taste of the product. Plus, hydrogenated oils aren’t the healthiest (as they are high in saturated fat) and should be avoided. I would not have purchased them had I known about the change in ingredients.

Ghirardelli’s choc chip (morsel) containing the same amt. of cocoa (60%) & do NOT contain hydrogenated oils (as this is not a trans fat, it still is artery clogging). I will not purchase again, but will buy their choc chips.

So I assume the hyd. oil helps the wafers melt quicker? That can be the only reason why any company would do this to their customers.

For “light” chocolate, this tastes very good. It has a complex sweetness, almost like caramel, and has a better chocolate flavor, in my opinion, than most milk chocolate–reminds me of hot chocolate mix.

I wasn’t expecting such quality at this price. I usually ONLY enjoy dark chocolate, but I bought this because the dark cocoa melts have been out of stock lately. These melts perform better than chocolate chips for dipping or drizzling; the chocolate maintains a uniform color and doesn’t melt the moment you touch it, whereas the chocolate from chips gets splotchy, and leaves smears on your fingers.

I just dipped some pretzels and strawberries for myself; I’m not a professional candy-maker or baker, but I thought these worked well. For recipes (such as brownies, pudding, frosting, etc) that call for melted chopped chocolate or chips, these melts may be a more economical option.

I bought a bunch of new molds through Amazon. I could not wait to use them! This was a very good price for so many melts that I had to buy them. They are smaller in size than the old melts that Wilton used to sell.

I find that this made them easier to melt. But they are in huge clumps in some of the bags. They still melted, but it took more stirring to get them smooth. This is the reason for only four stars. The taste is so good.

Everyone in my family loves these melts. I have already used three bags for various things. It does work well in the Wilton melting pot, but it took 30 minutes to heat up. I will be buying these again when I run out.

I use to use almond bark but the melts were recommended and I switched and would not go back to the bark. Melt great in the microwave in a minute or two. Depends on how many you put in the dish at a time.

I use 1/2 bag. Stir and check.

Bought these as they are new & we’re on offer. I’m glad I tried them. The taste was nice, orangy, we’ll as orangy as any other chocolate brand. They felt like chocolate buttons but when you put them on your tongue they melted with almost a fizz.

I really liked them although would have liked a few more in the bag. If you like the taste of other brands chocolate & orange I’m pretty sure you will like these. I will buy them again.

I had a bit of a fight on my hands with this product! The children tied to claim it before I had chance to try. We ended up sharing, as intended, as an evening treat. The chocolate was enjoyed by all, the taste & texture were lovely.

The bag was also a good size for sharing. The Aero branding lends itself to families, being neither too childish or too grown up. Perfect for a family treat.

Thought I was buying “bubbly” chocolate. Received orange flavoured chocolate buttons. Tasty – yes. Disappointed – yes. No Aero bubbles! Wouldn’t buy again. Should you wish, purchase for the taste alone.

Product is really good for the price you pay. I didn’t warm up the chocolate in the tray provided. I actually broke the chocolate and melted it in a small pot over the stove. Do not overheat, it will dry it out.

Also, dip your products into the chocolate before it starts to thicken for best results. If your chocolate gets thick, add another piece of chocolate and microwave it for a bit. (Or over the stove) Wisp your chocolate until it’s soft/creamy again.

Another tip: I do not melt all of the chocolate at once being that it starts to thicken within time. Overall, good product. I would buy it again.

This chocolate coats beautifully and easily. Usually doesn’t need to be thinned with oil. It is my favorite for cake pops. However the flavor is not the best compared to other brands. Still would recommend.

You get a large quantity for a low price.

I had high hopes for this product based on all the good reviews but I was very disappointed. It melted somewhat smoothly but it started to harden almost immediately after taking it out of the microwave and stirring it.

Then once it cools and hardens it cannot be reheated as that causes it to not melt and only turn crumbly. Plus the taste was very fake. Reminded me of that cheap dollar store chocolate. I bought this for my chocolate fountain and it never reached the desired consistency so I was unable to use it.

Would not buy again.

The quality and taste of these melting wafers are so much better than the other brands that I will only be buying them from now on. Not waxy!! Melts smooth and creamy. I used for dipping pretzels. Coats evenly.

Love both white and dark chocolate! Melts easily. Reheats well. Delicious! I use every year to dip shortbread for Christmas cookies and a holiday chocolate bark. Have used for strawberries and other fruit as well.

I stumbled upon these just browsing eBay for dark chocolates containing matcha (powdered Japanese green tea). I was searching for this type of sweets because I had a bar chocolate with these two main ingredients in the past and it was amazing.

I mean c’mon. these two things are both great for your health and the harmony of their flavors when combined are just super tasty. Philadelphia Candies has done an amazing job with this truffle! The flavors are very well balanced and they aren’t all jacked up on sugar like some “dark” chocolates can be.

Pieces are nice and small so you can enjoy a piece or two without feeling guilty, haha! If you are worried about shipping I can attest that Philadelphia Candies has done everything possible to ensure you receive your confections in the manner you were supposed to.

Years ago I lived in a small town they had a small supermarket and they used to carry delicious milk chocolate orange truffles. For 25 years I’ve looked for those truffles, so when I found these I was thrilled.

I live in Las Vegas NV and when I found these it was July so I had to wait a few months to get them, and decided to order some for my birthday. They came a day early, which was my birthday, and they were so cold from the flight and the truck, I love cold chocolate, they arrived in perfect condition and were absolutely delicious.

The matcha green tea dark chocolate truffles are absolutely succulent!!! The dark chocolate is oh so very smooth and not too sweet to allow you to really taste the quality of this dark chocolate. The light matcha green tea flavor melts perfectly with the chocolate, without overwhelming the elegant taste of pure dark chocolate!!! So yummy delicious and such a special treat!!!.

This chocolate was very easy to use. This was my first attempt at a drip cake. It was for an 85 year old male who likes liquorice all sorts. A Bertie Bassett cake seemed perfect. The chocolate melted easily when mixed with the hot double cream and ran nicely.

Its a top quality product with a good flavour. Will definitely stick with this make of chocolate for future cakes.

This is the best chocolate for professional baking! Im a bakery, doing French tarts and cakes and every time i need to to ganache I Use white chocolate! It’s delicious, you can tempor it how you want, the rest is super smooth.

I’ve been a chocolate lover all my life, and probably eat too much of it! I ate 70% chocolate for many years, but was trying to reduce my sugar intake. (I’ve had 100% dark chocolate from an expensive small shop, and honestly it just tasted like dirt to me!) When I tried this organic, fair trade chocolate, it has the most delicious, complex flavor of any dark chocolate I have ever tried! (I hate those one-note chocolates, where the flavor goes away so fast in your mouth – some of them are pricey too! This flavor has several different notes, and you keep tasting them!) I also only buy organic anymore, and am so happy to find Fair Trade chocolate, where the farmers are well paid, and no slave labor involved! (Yuck so sad we have to do so much research on food these days!) I love the Equal Exchange company – I recommend them for all your coffee and tea needs, though I don’t drink either.

Smooth, rich, satisfying – really great chocolate; I really like all the equal exchange bars but his is totally a favorite. It has enough sweetness for people who don’t like super dark chocolate (like the Eclipse, which I love for the cacao intensity) but it is still great for dark chocolate lovers.

Also, while (most?? All??) big multinational chocolate brands currently try to disguise, fair-wash, or distract from horrible inequities and abuses in their supply chain, it is good to know EE has longstanding relationships with producers and commits to fair trade and ethical products.

So grateful to EE and the farmers!.
