10 Best Teddy Pendergrass Songs (2022 Updated)

There are musicians or singers who define a ‘sound’ or record label. Teddy Pendergrass was one such artist who defined the ‘sound’ of The Philadelphia International label. A Pendergrass vocal on a track is as quintesentially Philly as Levi Stubbs (Four Tops) was for Tamla Motown or Otis Redding was for Stax.

Teddy’s story is tragic. Paralyised in a car crash at the height of his success, Teddy amazingly recovered enough to continue recording. Not content with just recording, Teddy set up the Teddy Pendergrass Alliance charity.

Sadly he was diagnosed with cancer and died recently (Jan 2010). So why should we remember this remarkable man? This double cd is proof enough. 28 tracks covering Teddy’s entire career from Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes to his solo work.

All the hits are here; Close The Door, Bad Luck, Love TKO to name but three. Listening to this cd, you really do get a sense of the raw power and emotion that Teddy Pendergrass would put into a song.

It is hardly surprising that Otis Redding was one of his inspirations and like so many, Teddy’s vocal ability was honed in the Gospel tradition of black America. I think Teddy has been underrated. He had a pressence, both physically and vocally that could easily compare to Marvin Gaye or Al Green.

Teddy’s work has been sampled often, especially Love TKO, so his influence has been felt. But when the man sings about ‘The Love I Lost’ if you don’t feel his pain and anguish, then you need to check you still have a pluse.

There are times when a cd is titled as ‘The Essential’ and it does not always live up to expectations. Usually, there is a hit or two missing, a live track thrown in as a filler. you know what I mean? This collection is absolutely on the mark.

Not only are the tracks the best of Teddy’s work, many are the full length versions and not the three minute radio edits. Wake Up Everybody being one such. This cd is of a quality you would expect from The Philly label and it’s genius owners Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff.

One day someone will give these guys the plaudits and acknowledgment they deserve. For me, they are right up there alongside Berry Gordy as great black American men of music and inspiration for generations to come.

The sleeve notes and track details are first rate and if you have never heard a Teddy Pendergrass song, or you’re curious about The Philly label and it’s musical philosophy, this collection will be money well spent because it don’t get much better than this.

Very relaxing, will recommend this product to anyone, if you want to relax and wine down, put this CD on and let go of all your stress and follow the redeem of the songs, good old fashion romance, buy it.

We bought this CD set after falling in love with a Veggie Tales Silly Songs with Larry CD that we borrowed from the local public library. There are three CDs in this set that we really love and three that we don’t use at this point.

There is one Silly Songs with Larry disk, one Songs from the Shows (with a variety of beloved songs on it), and one Lullabies disk that we really do love. We have an 8 year old, a 6 year old, and a 10 month old baby, so the older two like the silly songs and baby loves the lullabies.

Other than that, the cds are just veggie tale character voices singing children’s songs that you would hear at VBS or church. There may come a day, when #3 is older that we use these CD’s as we did Little People cds when our older two were little, but they aren’t what I was hoping for with this set.

Neither was the lullabies, but since it has come in handy, it’s not that big a deal. I just had expected 150 songs from the shows. which there probably just aren’t that many in existence, so they added other kids songs.

I would have preferred a two disk set that only had the show songs rather than a 6 disk set that had things I wasn’t looking for and now have to store or get rid of.

Veggie tales songs are toes adorbs. With songs like Who Built The Ark, Where is My Hairbrush, and Waterbuffalo song your child’s. can’t afford to not love this alb. I highly recc. this set for kids and addy’s alike.

this is a great set for my daughter and I. I have a 6 disc changer in my vehicle so it works out great. the problems that i have are 1. some songs are on 2 discs 2. these are the “mellower” versions of the songs, we had a cd we lost and decided to get this as the replacement and a lot of the songs we know and love are not as fun on this set.

overall I am pleased.

As a Great Fan of ABBA it was nice to get CD of Agnetha with her Solo stuff and her beautiful voice. The CD arrived brand new and wrapped. I was very pleased to have the CD.

good album. well done. she showcased her individual talent as an artist separate from ABBA. if you enjoy ABBA you will like this.

I bought the product because of its low price and nice condiction. I liked because the cds are brand new. I didn’t find nothing for dislike it. I didn’t compare this cd to others.

Love the Eagles. And I know this was instrumental (see what I did there?) in getting The Eagles back together. But, it was just a lackluster collection of really great artists paying tribute to a top shelf band.

But how can you cover The Eagles, when you’re comparing them to, well, The Eagles. It’s a good collection, and certainly worth a listen. But I wouldn’t look at it as a replacement for the real thing.

This was an album I listened to a lot when it was first released. Really liked this era of Country music artists. Unfortunately, it has not been released on iTunes, but I’m so glad there are still CD versions still available!.

Yhere is no doubt that the California band the Eagles have remained among the most celebrated of all music groups. Throughout the 70s and into the early 80s, they successfully created a fine series of musical masterpieces.

Although fully accepted by the rock world, they have always retained a bit of a Country feel. So, in 1993, a brilliant tribute CD was released featuring 13 of their best-known songs, performed by a star-studded line-up of some of Country music’s brightest performers.

The result is a classic release. Travis Tritt kicks off with a high-spirited rendition of “Take It Easy” (he even had the Eagles appear with him in the subsequent music video for this song); Little Texas easily handles “Peaceful Easy Feeling”; Clint Black shines on “Desperado”; John Anderson gives a gut busting version of “Heartache Tonight”; Alan Jackson turns in a remarkable performance of “Tequila Sunrise”; Suzy Bogguss has fine moments with “Take It To The Limit”; Vince Gill’s high-tenor voice is perfectly suited for “I Can’t Tell You Why”; Diamond Rio is superb with “Lyin’ Eyes”; Trisha Yearwood delivers a strong vocal on “New Kid In Town”; Billy Dean’s version of “Saturday Night” is one of the stand-out highlights of this CD; Tanya Tucker kicks things into high gear with “Already Gone”; Brooks And Dunn have a fine showcase with “Best Of My Love”; there is absolutely nothing sad about Lorrie Morgan’s variation of “The Sad Cafe”.

While these songs are the perfect compliment as a fitting tribute to the Eagles, the CD would have been just as good if it would have included “Seven Bridges Road”, which could have easily been performed by the entire line-up.

Imagine those harmonies. Altogether, this a must-have for all fans of the Eagles and Country music.

This a a nice compilation of hits. Could have more on it but for the price, it is a great stroll down memory lane.

I bought this item. Because is a good band. And the cd is recently. Gary and his band have a good melody, They play with feeling. And I should recomend this product. For collectors.

I bought the cd because I like the group. I know the majority of the tunes. Some I’ve never heard of. That is why I prefer to buy their greatest hits cd. I rather not know one or two tunes out of 10 instead of buying a cd and only know and liking one tune and playing for a twelve songs cd.

I like the cd. Nothing to dislike about it.

This is a nice set of songs for little ones in the car. Most are “standard” songs like “Mary had a little lamb”, but there are some others, too. My little one likes the albums a lot, so it was well worth the price.

Not expensive, either.

My 2 yo Grandson LOVES this CD. it is also a fun way to teach numbers and the alphabet. Not only does it showcase the ABC’s but it has cute little songs that include the use of each letter. There is a song about the days of the week and other children friendly songs.

We have to play THIS CD every time we are in the car! The only down side to this CD is I am starting to sing these songs in my head. lol! This is also a great dealer, it may not ship the day of purchase, so dont be in a great big hurry.

IT was not an unreasonable ship time, it arrived in about a week.

My students really love this wonderful CD. Its great listening fun for the classroom and even better if the kids are allowed to move to the music; especially on a rainy day when the students cant have recess outdoors.

Purchased “The Doobie Brothers Greatest Hits” in a 2-DVD set which arrived on-time and unbroken. If you’re a Doobie Bros. fan, this is a wonderfully complete collection of their portfolio of creations.

No bad tracks, IMO.

One of the all time great bands; genius lyrics, unparalleled talent on instruments. Thanks to Tom Johnston and all of the band members who’ve been there from the beginning, and those who’ve passed through the band.

My favorite songs on this CD are, “South City Midnight Lady” and “Another Park, Another Sunday”.

I’m sorry to be writing about my positive experience grooving to The Doobie Brothers, as every music enthusiast should have already listened to this classic, never dated soul sinister group, covering every tonality & beat for two decades strong.

But I am positive every music listener has heard atleast one Doobie Brothers song. Whether it’s background music at a sporting event or the car next to you at a stop light. This is an essential group to have in your music library, & this double CD covers all the major hits.

For all ages, do your ears a favor.

If your a fan of the great soul singer Teddy Pendergrass you will definitely like this classic concert dvd.

Wasn’t too bad. Although the video quality could have been a little better. Probably due to age of this DVD it may have lost some of it’s clarity.

I only discovered Teddy Pendergrass last year when one of his live performances, from the 7o’s was aired on television. I was able to find this excellent DVD on ebay and love it. There is an interview from 2004 included at the end which was very moving and sad.

Music is always a great picker-upper! This CD was really a great value, as it was a good CD to include in anyone’s music library. The sound quality is excellent, as this title, like a lot of others, has been remastered.

A really nice experience.

Great cd. Rock Me On The Water, Doctor My Eyes, Jamaica, Say You Will. Anyone who likes JB will like this.

As a first album. classic, still relevant and unyielding as a format and cornerstone of Hall of Fame career. A must have for any Browne fan (especially the digitally remastered” cd) that really great with a decent system.
