A tent is a beginner’s home away from home. It’s a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and to enjoy the great outdoors. When you’re ready to head out on your first camping trip, be sure to choose a tent that is comfortable and easy to set up.
There are a variety of tents on the market, so be sure to do your research before making your purchase. There are also a number of online resources that can help you select the perfect tent for your needs.
Make camping easier with the Coleman 2-Person Sundome Tent. The dome design is easy to set up. It’s also designed for incredible ventilation with large windows and a ground vent that helps moves the air up and out.
If it rains, the Weathertec System’s patented welded floors and inverted protected seams help ensure you stay dry, and the Insta-Clip Pole Attachments stand up to wind. The snag-free, continuous pole sleeves mean you only have to feed the poles once-shrinking setup time to just 10 minutes.
The 7 ft. x 5 ft. (2. 13 m x 1. 52 m) floor fits two people and comes with a durable carry bag for easy transport. Size: 7′ x 5′. Gender: Unisex. Age Group: Adult.
Setup Made Easy: 1. Snag-free pole sleeves. Continuous for easier pole feeding. 2. Secure corner pole connections. Patented pin & ring systems helps keep poles from slipping. Snag-free insta-clip suspension. Secure your tent to your poles in a snap.
Updated Version of Kelty Salida Tent The tapered tent measures 85” x 54” (at its widest point), giving you an interior area of 29. 5 square feet. The peak height is 40 inches. There is a single vestibule protecting 7.
85 square feet of storage space. The two aluminum poles are pre-bent to create extra room inside the tent. Pockets at each corner of the tent keep one end of the pole secure as you move around to deal with the other end.
The Late Start 2 tent has a single door. The walls are No-see-um mesh and the floor is tough 68 denier fabric, water resistant to 1800 mm. Internal storage includes a ceiling pocket. The tent body is protected by a waterproof 68 denier rainfly.
All seams are sealed to keep the water out. The freestanding design means you can pitch the tent and then move it around to find the best site.
My Son and I both purchased this tent. We brought them on a backpacking trip to Lake Vernon in northern Yosemite. Soon after pitching camp we were met with a cloud burst complete with lightning and clapping thunder over our heads.
Needless to say, the rain and wind was remarkable. We had retreated to our tents and by lifting the rain fly a bit were able to created cool videos. These tents handled rain and wind gusts of at least 50mph.
We had locked the rain fly corner tie downs with rocks since we were on total granite. Not one tents stake was used! They handled the winds without an issue. Being in sandy areas surrounded with granite we found that these areas filled with water.
We laughed to each other how nice and cool the floor was. No leaks what so ever. Although the tent is on the heavy side, I’m happy with the performance and room for my gear that a 2 person tent gives me.
All my gear stayed nice and dry. We both recommend this tent. Nice going Kelly!.
Set up camp in the compact yet roomy Coleman 4-person dark room sundome tent. Dark room technology blocks 90 percent of sunlight so families can put the kids to bed early and festival goers can sleep in past sunrise;, it also reduces temperatures in the tent, letting your group enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep.
If it rains, this tent is guaranteed to keep you dry thanks to the WeatherTec system, which uses a tub-like floor with patented corner welds and protected seams to help keep water out. You’ll get even more weather protection from a door awning and an included rainfly.
Meanwhile, the compact dome shape and strong frame have been tested to withstand 35+ mph winds. Two windows increase air circulation to help you stay cool and comfortable. Setup is simple with snag-free, continuous pole sleeves, a patented pin-and-ring system, and a snag-free insta-clip suspension.
Inside, comfortably fit 1 queen-size airbed, neatly stash small items in mesh storage pockets sewn into the walls, and conveniently bring in electrical power with the E-Port feature. Measures 9 ft x 7 ft with 4 ft 11 in center height.

4. Coleman 6-Person Skydome Camping Tent – Blue Nights
Coleman 2154663 Skydome Spacious 2 Person Quick Assembly Outdoor Camping Dome Tent with Weathertec Protection and Wide Door, Blue Nights – With a quick setup under 5 minutes, the Coleman Skydome Camping Tent lets you enjoy more time with friends and family on your next camping trip.
There is plenty of room to stretch inside the spacious interior thanks to the nearly vertical walls that offer 20% more headroom than a traditional Coleman dome tent. Plus, a wide door design means you can move air beds, sleeping bags, and other gear in and out with ease.
Downpour in the forecast? Not to worry, the WeatherTec system’s welded corners and inverted seams help keep you and your gear dry. Skydome tents are available in a range of sizes (2-person, 4-person, 6-person, or 8-person), with or without Dark Room technology.
The new Vista Quick Tent, by TETON Sports, sets up in an instant. Simply roll it out, lock your poles and pull the drawstring. The locking hub keeps your tent up until you are ready to take it down. These tents are made to use on the ground or fit on top of either the TETON Sports Outfitter XXL Camp Cot (Vista 1) or two TETON Sports Universal Camp Cots (Vista 2) for a camping experience that is out of this world.
Two-way zippers make getting in and venting your tent a breeze. And a gear loft holds a light and small essentials. A standard tent-length rainfly comes with each tent. Look for the Elite Rainfly, sold separately, that covers the tent and cot(s) all the way to the ground.
I’ve been using this tent for a year and a half or so now. It’s a great little tent for when I’m camping solo. The 2-person is big enough for me and my extra gear or me and my dog. I really like that I can get to my campsite and within about 90 seconds have my ground sheet down and tent up and staked down.
Add another couple of minutes to put the fly on and get it clipped on and tied off. Less than 5 minutes from pulling it out of the truck to having it ready to go. Tear down is even quicker (drop the tent, roll everything up, stuff it in the bag, and toss it back in the truck).
Super simple and super fast setup and take down. I really like the mesh that is basically everything but the floor of the tent. Camping in TX during the summer where it can still be 95 degrees at midnight, it’s nice to be able to get every bit of the breeze into the tent as possible.
I also like to leave the fly off when there’s no moon so I can lay there and watch the stars float by overhead. If the moon is out (especially if it’s full), it can be really bright to try to sleep. Just keep in mind that, if you’re in a campground with other folks, if you leave the fly off, there is no privacy because the mesh goes so low.
Subtracted 1-star just because the first time I used it, it rained. There are no guy points on the ends of the fly, so the rain ended up running off the fly onto the tent and soaking the bottom of one end of the tent.
Got home and added a tie-off on each end of the fly to keep it off the tent, and it has been a champ ever since. Pros: Super quick setup and tear down. Leave the fly off for extra ventilation and great views.
Cons: No tie-offs on the fly so the bottom of it sits on the tent on the ends. This isn’t necessarily a con if you never camp in the rain.
I’ve been backpacking with the Teton’s versions of the one man quick tent for years. Yes, there are lighter options, but the quick setup has huge advantages for me because my children can set up the tent and break it down with ease, the poles are never misplaced, and it offers a very roomy option for much less money than the competition.
I bought this 2 man tent so I could take my young son on an extended backpack trip with me, and it worked great. The overall length of the tent was almost problematic when it came time to pack, but we made due.
It took the entire length of my Teton 4300 pack plus the overflow. It’s obviously not ultra light, but as I let my children use the tents for their own adventures I can’t imagine I’d want anything less.
The vista 1 quick tent seems like a real lift saver when time or visibility during set up is limited! I haven’t used it yet but I’ll be putting it through its paces at the National Training Center at Ft Irwin in May.
Right off the bat, I’m giving this 4 stars because the rain fly wasn’t as advertised. The rain fly that comes with it doesn’t have the vent like in the pictures. Set up is a breeze and takes less than 2 minutes once you know what you’re doing.
As far as size goes, I’m almost 6’2′ and can fit comfortably as long as I tuck my knees up a little, but that’s how I usually sleep anyways. Honestly, for the price, you really can’t go wrong. The only thing I’d like to see is a vestibule type rain fly and maybe a second opening on the opposite side of the tent.
Polyester,Mesh Dimensions: 7’L x 7’W x 42″H. Spacious for 2 people. Package includes: 1 x Inner Tent, 1 x Rain fly, 8 x Tent pegs, 4 x Wind Rope, 1 x Carrying Bag. Polyester taffeta fabric with eco-friendly PU coating, it ensure the effects of anti-UV.
Sealed fly and floor seam provides weather protection. Shock corded fiberglass frame with clips and ring&pin system makes assembly and disassembly easily. You can take our tent with portable carrying bag.
Large mesh roof vents and windows provide great ventilation. Large D-style door with half window allows easy entry/exit. Overhead mesh pocket provides great storage space, mud mat helps to keep tent floor clean.
The Limelight 3-person tent will definitely be your new favourite home and impresses with its simplicity and linear design. The vertical walls provide plenty of room to sleep, and the strategic clip placement provides more internal volume to stretch out.
When rain clouds raise color-coded ‘Easy Pitch’ clips, poles and canopy ensure easy setup, and the seam-glued bottom cut prevents buildup. Protect your investment by using the included footprint. An oversized door provides easy access, while two vestibules provide storage for all of your camping gear.
After an epic day of adventure, insert a headlamp into the lampshade pocket to get ambient light at night.
Spent a week at 12,000 feet in this bad boy with my four dogs. Very cozy tent, and all of my gripes would easily have been remedied by going up a tier in both size and price. I’m 6’4” and cramming a Great Dane, German Shephered and two Golden Retrievers into this was over zealous but absolutely doable (and with a cot!) Like clockwork, it rained… thunderstorms with gusty winds, small hail and heavy downpours every afternoon.
Snowed three nights in a row (very light and was gone by dawn but still counts!) No issue for this tent and actually the only time any moisture got in the tent was this afternoon when I was taking the fly off and hadn’t zipped the zipper to the tent itself.
I added a few coats of scotch guard to the fly before I went camping, I’m sure this added to the water repelling ability but with some well place guy lines, this thing was as dry as they make ‘em! The pre bent poles and easy to follow instructions made this tent an absolute cinch to install by myself.
I have always dreaded the assembly and takedown of tents however it appears things are moving into the 21st century finally and this tent is proof. Total install time out from the trunk of the Jeep to unrolling sleeping bag was less than 10 mins.
In the brutal wind and the sun was setting! The Limelight 3 gets pretty stuffy once the sun is out. Nights in the 30’a with snow showers had me sleeping in every layer of my sleeping bag, in long underwear and with the dogs on top of me.
Expect to wake up hot unless you find some good tree shade, I think the ventilation in this tent could be better or more versatile. Minus one star for that. Very happy with this tent and look forward to many more trips in it.
Took this on a two night backpacking trip in the Rockies and the extra space from the gear wings was the envy of everyone in our camp. Definitely got called the Vienna Sausage tent a lot, but if it’s functional, who cares what color it is.
Makes it easier to spot your camp. Got rained on plenty and this thing stayed dry– that’s probably the most important part. Set up was all color-coded so super easy. Clips in like other backpacking tents.
My only gripe is the door. The fly only has a vertical zipper to access the door and the bubble of the D is on the other side. So you really have to reach around to open it and I felt like I was always battling the tent to get in (my partner did not hate this as much as I did).
I’m sure it’s not the lightest tent on the market but weight wasn’t a huge concern on our trip and I really appreciated the extra space to keep our packs inside the tent. The ol Vienna Sausage tent will be continue to be our backpacking go-to.
Its flaws can be overlooked for the convenience of extra space.
I’m new to camping as an adult. This tent is really nice, especially if you’re car camping. The dual vestibules offer extra ‘garage’ space for dirty shoes, and provide better airflow. If you guyline the extra tabs you get a lot of nice ventilation.
I didn’t feel smothered in chemical plastic like I remember tents as a kid. My tent had no condensation, just nice pleasant forest smells. Bugs stayed out. The poles are just barely too long for a 50L backpack, and the rain fly does take up the most volume.
If you’re exclusively backpacking you might want an ultralight design. My only complaint was that it didn’t ship with enough pegs or cord for the extra rain fly corners. I just ordered 6 more pegs, but it would be nice if they were included.

I’m a longtime car camper and had the opportunity to go on a weekend backpacking trip. My normal tents were waaay too heavy for backpacking use so I set out to find a good backpacking tent. I decided to give the Featherstone UL Granite a try since it was the cheapest well-reviewed backpacking tent.
What can I say, it was a great choice. The tent is not extremely heavy, given it’s room. In typical tent exaggeration, this two person tent really only fits one person comfortably. Though two could fit, technically.
But the construction and materials are first-rate. This tent looks like it could easily cost double or triple what it actually sells for. I enjoy it so much, I have even started to take it on one night car camping trips when I don’t want to bother with the setup of my larger tents.
I can have this tent up in a few minutes and have a great little hide-away for the night. The poles are great quality. And the zippers are just buttery smooth compared to any tent I’ve ever used. No, I wouldn’t mind if the fly extended another inch or two.
But that’s really a small quibble. I recommend this tent to anyone who utters the word “backpacking. ” When I wear it out, I’ll get another.
Recently purchased this for a camping trip in sequoia and it surpassed my expectation! Extremely light weight which is essential for these longer hikes. Very pleased with the weight and sizing/packaging.
Other features that really stood out is the mesh gear loft, stakes, and 3M reflective fabric near the zipper that other tents I used before don’t have. By far the best tent I purchased and will be coming back for other products from Featherstone!.
I like the featherstone tent overall. It is very roomy. Has 2 side vestibules. It comes in 4 pieces. Groundsheet, inner mesh tent, pole and rain fly. And of course stakes. The pole is one piece, folds up neatly and around 10 inches long.
There are 2 doors, they open from either end meaning the wide part of the opening is on the opposite end, I guess id you want to sleep head to toe with someone it’s great. Both ends of the tent are identical so there really isn’t a going to be any confusion putting the fly on.
The only downside is the floor is not waterproof. Kinda a thin material but it should hold up. I have a piece of tyvec that I’m going to use that will work better. It’ll be a whole lot lighter than the regular groundsheet too.
Just a suggestion. Overall great tent and worth the money. Mine took 2 weeks tp get here but from what others leave on reviews that isn’t normal. I almost forgot, the whole tent is seamsealed, and they do use decent zippers.
The wind flap that cpvers the zipper on the rain fly is plenty wide enough that it won’t get caught in the zipper and it has 3 big velcrow strips from the top middle and bottom. It has a hook you can hang stuff feom inside, has a small mesh drying mesh cubby above and 2 decent size mesh pockets, on each end on opposite sides.
Andit has on each end a vent with velcrow and a prop with velcrow so you can have ventilation.
Add a comfort of home to your next campout with lots of room to spread out, in the Coleman Montana 8-Person tent with hinged door. It’s designed for simple setup and easy carrying, perfect for car campers, scout troops and long camping trips.
The tent even has an electrical port to bring power inside. Specially angled windows let in the light, but not the water when it rains, even when the windows are open. Insta clip attachments stand up to high wind and the WeatherTec System’s patented welded floors and inverted protected seams help ensure you stay dry.
The snag-free, continuous pole sleeves mean you only have to feed the poles once, reducing setup time to just 15 minutes. Inside, the tent’s large, hinged door makes it easy to get in and out, and more headroom gives most campers room to stand and move.
The 16 ft. x 7 ft. floor is large enough to fit three queen size airbeds. Before you lie down, attach the fly with added overhang for protection from the rain, or on dry nights, gaze at the stars through the mesh roof.
Can be put up in just a few seconds. Self-assembling pop-up tent for 2 adults with packaging. Shoes can be conveniently stored between the inner and outer tent. The assembly is done within seconds, remove the safety strap, throw the tent in the air and it is ready for use.
Thanks to the self-supporting construction, the tent can be set up anywhere without any pegs (as long as there is no wind). Pegs and ropes are, of course, included. Thanks to the instructions (English language not guaranteed) and colour markings on the poles, it takes just 15 seconds to put it back in the transport bag again.
The water-resistant quality has been laboratory and field-tested (the complete tent was sprayed with 200 litres of water per hour per square metre). The breathable polyester inner tent reduces the formation of condensation on the inside of the tent and allows for good air flow and restful sleep.
Due to its size, it is also suitable for backpackers.
This tent was water proof during some pretty intense rain, it also acted as a great shield from my lovely but clumsy mates who kept falling on top of it. It also looked great compared to some of the whoppers people tried to pass of as a tent, they where mystified by my tents quality by the time Judas Priest hit the main stage.
Life was just better in this tent and I sit in my house now craving a simpler time.

A tent is an essential piece of equipment for any beginner camper. It provides shelter from the elements and a place to sleep. There are many different types and sizes of tents available, so it is important to choose one that is right for you.
When choosing a tent, consider the size of your group, the type of camping you will be doing, and the climate you will be camping in.
Tents are available in a variety of materials, including canvas, nylon, and polyester. Canvas tents are the heaviest and most durable, but they are also the most expensive. Nylon tents are lighter and cheaper, but they are not as durable as canvas tents.
Polyester tents are the lightest and most affordable, but they are not as durable as nylon tents.
The size of your tent is important, especially if you are camping with a group. There are three-person tents, six-person tents, and even twelve-person tents available. Choose a size that will comfortably fit everyone in your group.
The type of camping you will be doing will also affect the type of tent you need. If you are planning on doing any backpacking, you will need a lighter, more compact tent. If you are car camping, you can choose a larger and more luxurious tent.
The climate you will be camping in is another important factor to consider when choosing a tent. If you are camping in a hot, humid climate, you will need a tent with good ventilation. If you are camping in a cold climate, you will need a tent that is well-insulated.
No matter what type of tent you choose, be sure to read the instructions carefully before setting it up. Once you have your tent set up, be sure to practice taking it down so you will be prepared when it is time to pack up and head home.
