20 Best Tent For Wind (2022 Updated)

The MESA is the best tent I have ever purchased. 4 years ago my family and I went on an advantage and this tent allowed us to help someone in need. While in the mountains a set of teenagers were camping and got lost.

For an overnight stay until morning we pulled them in and gave them a very warm place to stay for the night. “Roomy” was the word. It was four of us plus the young strangers. The space was enough for EVERYONE to be comfortable in a semi awkward situation.

We had enough food in the Orka cooler to share (another amazing camping tool). The 50 watt Goal Zero solar panels kept all the important things charged. Unfortunately, I was a victim of a house fire this summer and everything camping, except for the generator, got destroyed.

Thanking God that I am here able to write this review. Nevertheless; I had to get on here and explain how great of a product this is. This tent was one of the best things that I had gotten myself for camping.

This tent is amazing, ample room to spread out and stand up. The included wall hanging and ceiling net are nice for accessories. We had some decent winds and rain, and not a drop of water came through, did its job just as expected.

I really liked the triangle vents at the top, was able to keep vents open during the rain without any water getting in. Sometimes the door is hard to close around the turn, a reinforced handle or tag would probably do the trick to hold it snug while zipping.

Hoping to get many years of good use from this tent.

This is a great versatile, lightweight tent. Waterproof in all-day rain. Great price for this tent. Very roomy with a large vestibule area for cooking in bad weather. Can be made into a hot tent. Very easy set up to this tent.

Nature Hike did a good job with this tent design. Great for 3+ season backpacking.

Very recent purchase, the last weekend gave it a thorough test in a six hour series of severe thunderstorms with constant heavy downpours and high winds. Did not leak one single drop. Overall I love this tent, especially all the windows.

This is the most detail oriented designed tent. Well it may take a few more minutes than 90seconds they claimed, but overall it is super easy to set up and super easy to take down and put in tge well constructed storage bag.

Zippers alone on the tent made me smile. The concern some had about the removable floor  are unfounded. The floor is fully velcroed with no breaks or spaces for bugs. Oh I like this!!!.

We have had out T3 for right at a year. We have used it in ideal weather conditions as well as rain, snow, sleet, high wind, below freezing and 90+° weather. The below freezing temps you better make sure you have the correct sleeping gear though.

We are happy with the easiness of set up. We recently had the wind catch it as we were packing up camp and it bent a rain fly pole. My husband and I were arguing thinking it was gonna be a pain/hassle to get fix or replaced.

No hassle at all. Some of the best customer service there is.

This is a great tent. A six-footer could stand up in it. Its set-up is easy, though popping it out (the first step) does take adult strength. The six zippered mesh windows give air flow all around. The two doorways give two ways to go in and out, so tent inhabitants don’t have to step all over each other.

There are spacious mesh pockets on each side of the tent on the inside that offer lots of room to store shoes, books, glasses, cell phone, hand towels, a toilet paper roll, whatever (yes, each pocket is big enough to hold all of that, unless you have a man’s size 10 foot and want to put your running shoes in it).

The construction is good – no frays, tears, or weak spots. We are only two people and a small dog, but we really enjoy having room to spread out.

So I’ve had my Midori 2 for. This will be the 11th year of use! It’s been great, has never let me down. A friend of mine chose to buy the newer version of the Midori, which seems to have improved on almost every small issue I’ve had with my tent.

While I own the previous iteration of the tent, I do have some experience with this one and I can speak of my older version, which might be helpful to some. First off, it has two doors! My old version only has the one.

A lot of the time my tent just houses me alone, but I do often bring others along and while initially the single door seemed to be okay, the extra room of a second vestibule for gear and the addition of a second door so my camping partner doesn’t have to climb over me for those late night washroom runs would be a god send.

I personally chose my old Midori because I only wanted the 1 door (at the time), but that’s really just a preference that depends on your use case. Speaking of that vestibule, it is quite the redesign from my old one.

This has an extra pole which extends out to give more of a roof over the door. This is one of the things I’ve really wanted on my tent. You may be able to see it in the picture; my old version, if fully unzipped, would just rain water right into the doorway of the tent while the new version has enough of an overhang to avoid that issue.

The new design also does away with a weird small integrated pole that helped stand up the end vestibule, which I thought was a clunky and awkward design choice on the old version. A lot of other things are the same or minor changes: the fly and tent body are colour coded now, which is great for setup, and it still has lots of guy out points and the great little guy points to help keep the fly and body away from each other for maximum airflow and reduced condensation.

Still retains a pretty high ‘bathtub floor’ which is nice for those super rainy days, though my old version does seem to have higher walls (see pic) and less mesh to repel water splashing, though it’s a tradeoff with breathability.

It still has a single vent up top to help get rid of that hot air, has nice reflective details in many spots, strong aluminum poles (This is key, never get fiberglass poles. ), toggles to roll up the door, a sizable gear loft, and a nice rigid, freestanding design.

As for water/rain resistance, I can only speak to my old version but it has the same 1800mm hydrostatic head rated 68D polyester fly + floor. Mine has never leaked, never needed touchups on the seams, and has yet to start degrading.

Again, I’ve used it quite regularly for 10 years now. I’ve woken up on a ‘water bed’. Floating, with inches of water underneath the tent during heavy heavy downpour yet I stayed completely dry inside.

I’ve accidentally set up in low spots, trips where it rained all day+night, and woken up to a healthy coating of ice. Still, never had a leak. Now, you do need to take care of your tent. I clean it after every trip with some mild soap+water on especially dirty areas (mostly the floor), hose down the inside/outside of the body+fly, and in the summer months I’ll often apply a spray on tent DWR+UV treatment after the cleanup.

I do have a footprint that I purchased some time ago, but I rarely use it. I find the floor thick and durable enough on it’s own, though mine is pretty stained. That said, there could be improvements still.

The pegs that come with it are still junk in my opinion. I bought another brand to bring along. I wish the bathtub floor was a bit higher, at least on the two sides adjacent to the doorways because in heavy rain there will be water splashing up quite high under the fly.

There are some areas where they seem to have tried to reduce weight, but it doesn’t seem like an improvement. For example, I prefer my older version’s main body peg points on each corner. I also think they should have made the upper portion of the tent body entirely mesh, instead of messing around with the weird detail with the pockets.

It just inhibits breathability and promotes condensation. Overall I think it’s a great tent with some good updates. It isn’t the most technically rich and not the lightest but it is durable, well made, and reliable.

If you take care of it, I think it will do you well for many years.

Great job Coleman! We recently purchased this tent for a weekend trip and were very pleased. First of all, it was very easy to setup, as we just matched the color of the poles with the color of the sleeves on the tent.

The approximate setup time mentioned was fifteen minutes, and we had it setup in considerably less time (even with high winds). Thankfully, there was just enough headroom in the center of the tent for us to stand, and enough square footage on the floor for our bags and bedding.

It was very windy during our trip, and the second night gave us lots of rain, which had me concerned. We stayed completely dry in our tent, I couldn’t find one drop of water inside, unlike many other tents that we’ve owned.

There were small puddles of water on the floor of the screen room, but no way for the water to get into the cabin area. Coleman also figured out a way to drain (or squeegee) the water from the screen room floor as there is a sewn-in mesh strip across the floor by the screen room entrance.

While I thought how nice it would be to not have any water in the screen room, this mesh strip was helpful in the removal of the rain water. Overall, this tent is surprisingly sturdy in high winds, great at keeping the sleeping area dry, very breathable with four zippered windows, and screen roof in center which helped to eliminate condensation.

My friend and I used this tent, just a different color, on our annual camping trip and it was great! It rained about two days on our trip and found no water inside! We did have a tarp underneath just because I’m a paranoid person.

The porch area does get full of water through during rain which is a pain, but it can be swept out and dried easily in the sun. The porch area held a clothing drying rack, a shoe rack, 6 decent sized bins, and some other camping junk.

Inside it was just two of us so we had a ton of room. Can easily fit 8 people in this tent. It’s big and spacious and is an awesome tent. If you’re below 6ft you’ll comfortably be able to stand inside.

10/10 tent.

Love this tent! We’re a family of 4 and have been using this tent since our boys our boys were little. There’s enough room to bring everything with you. When we go car camping we bring: 4 inflatable mattresses, our sleeping bags, cooler full of food and drinks, Coleman grill, fishing gear, 4 camp chairs, and plenty of other things to keep us enjoying the outdoors for a couple of days.

We keep our gear in the screen room at night and on rainy days when we stay in the tent and play games. there’s penty of room for standing and a game is ring toss, again when it’s raining. The windows and doors are big enough for adequate ventilation and they zip closed for privacy.

We hang a tent fan at night when it’s hot here in the south. It’s easy to set up and take down with plenty of anchor spots and guy lines (which you will need in high winds. This is not a light-weight tent intended for minimalist backpacking.

This is a tent that keeps your family comfy and wanting to keep going camping. I gave it 4 stars because I wish it were lighter and smaller in packed size. We’ve had this tent for a more than 10 years.

We camp the GA state parks at least 6 times a year.

Recently purchased the Stormbreak 2 Tent and took it camping in inclement Humboldt Weather with outstanding results. The salesperson was knowledgeable, experienced with this Tent and provided an excellent tutorial on pitching it.

She recommended the Footprint which was purchased and glad I did. The footprint provided extra attention, protected the Tent from rain that had puddled under the Tent and Footprint. Was dry as a bone.

The dual entry doors are an added plus and the Tent provided warmth in 50 degree night temperatures without interior condensation. I do recommend using all stays/ties with the rain fly as to direct rainfall away from the Tent Doors.

The vestibule is roomy, enough for 2 backpacks and shoes, with room to enter easily. The interior has great side pockets for small gear and a center clip for a lantern. It would be a close fit for 2 cozy campers or 1 with very comfortable room.

I totally endorse this product and looking forward to wearing it out.

At 6’2, I JUST fit without laying at an angle. Width is enough for two people and their gear to fit cozily inside. The ease of deployment on this is great! Puts up in around five minutes, takes down in a very similar timeframe.

Tent (folded in half over itself twice) and tarp (folded over itself until it is the width of the poles) will fit snug in the original carrying bag. Simply roll the poles in the tarp, then place the rolled tarp on the folded tent for a final roll.

A little bit of roll tension is all you need to cinch it back down to size for storage. I personally love how loud the yellow colorway is too! Weighing in at over 5lbs, this guy is not my first pick for backpacking, though it can be done if you are hiking with a partner who is willing to split gear weights.

Otherwise, there are better performance options out there. For casual camping though, this would be a great dwelling for your toolkit :).

I purchased this tent in 2019. Multiple trips in backcountry. Tent did well until first downpour in the pacific northwest. TERRIBLE WATERPROOFING. I spent the whole night getting dripped on in multiple spots in the tent.

I have never had such a terrible night’s sleep in the backcountry. Tent never abused, stored properly, assembled correctly, but leaked ferociously in its first rainstorm. Very, very, disappointing. Worst piece of Northface gear I have ever had, and I have purchased thousands over the years.

If I could give this product zero stars, I would. Is there a negative star rating? -5 stars? I might as well construct pine tree shelters in the backcountry. TERRRRRIBLEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOAKED BY SUNRISE.

I have 4 of these Hooligan Tents from Coleman. I have (1) Hooligan 2, (2) Hooligan 3s and (1) Hooligan 4. These tents are water-proof and bullet proof. We backpack up in Northern Michigan along Lake Superior regularly and have used these tents instead of anything more expensive.

I got all these tents from Walmart at prices between $40 to $70 and I can’t be happier with the purchase. Now, about the tents, First, They are heavy as compared to some of the other backpacking tents found on other websites or other outfitters.

The Hooligan 3 and Hooligan 4 are within ounces of each other. They weigh about 11. 5 LBS complete with stakes, poles inner and outer tents. If you are hiking with someone else as we do, we divide the tents as inner for one hiker and outer (fly) stakes and poles for the other hiker.

The inner tent has a rubberized bathtub bottom that is leak-proof and I have never had a leak in multiple camping trips. We’ve hiked the Lake Superior shores and camped on the shore in driving rain as well as wind and waves buffeting the tent.

Sometimes the fall winds poured more water than the thunderstorms and gale force winds. Last year we woke up to winds so strong we thought we were at base camp on Everest (no joke) and the tents held fast and never leaked.

Second, they have a very large vestibule that will cover your gear away from the elements so you don;t have to keep them in the tent. You will need a plastic tarp or piece of Tyvek to keep in the vestibule so your gear doesn’t sit on the ground.

Make sure your tarp doesn’t stick out from the vestibule or the water can get to your gear. Third, I always water-proof EVERY tent I own prior to sleeping in it. I use seam sealer and also recommend Rustoleum Never Wet (Home Depot) or the silicone waterproofing for surface waterproofing.

(in Walmart’s sporting goods department) It’s the one with the orange cap, and use two cans on the lower inner tent and spray the entire outer (fly) and wipe it with a paper towel to evenly soak the fly.

The fly covers the entire tent except for a little bit of the lower bathtub bottom. Put stakes in the side elastic pulls and it will pull the fly away from the tent and, in the event of rain, the water will run away from the tent and not onto the bottom.

If you are back packing by yourself, you can use the Hooligan 2. The Hooligan 3 is good for two good sized guys or 2 kids and one adult. If you are looking to accommodate some Boy Scouts or kids, you could probably fit 3-4 depending on size.

All in all, these are all great tents. Also, I always upgrade my stakes and buy he triangular aluminum orange stake sold at Walmart. They are only about. 75 cents apiece. These are great for rocky soil (which is prevalent in the Michigan U.

P. ) or dirt/soil. They are a bit heavier than those supplied by Coleman but are more reliable in my opinion. So, in summary, waterproof your tent with seam sealer and some surface waterproofing, upgrade your stakes and enjoy your dry sleeping.

The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is this tent isnt ideal for cold weather. Nevertheless, during my first mountain use (Laguna in San Diego County) we weathered 35 degree temps and a overnight rain and thunder storm that turned into an hour of hail around 8 am.

I have no idea what time the rain started but I do know it woke me up at 4am. I use a tarp for a ground cover in all weather, for the forecasted rain I added a sheet of painters plastic. The rain fly virtually reaches the ground, a big plus in that accidental touching of the inner walls didnt lead to leakage.

As a gamble, I chose not to use any sort of waterproofing product and ditched a last-minute idea to cover the entire tent in painters plastic. I did this to test the water repelling properties of the rain fly and I am happy to report not a single drop of water made it into the tent!If you use it under rainy conditions, I strongly suggest you figure out a way to fix the ground sheet between the tent itself and the rainfly.

Reason: my plastic extended roughly 8 from the edge of the tent. Water from the rainfly fell onto the plastic and under the tent itself. Late morning I discovered around 2 gallons of rainwater pooled directly beneath my bedroll.

Again, I am VERY grateful to report not a drop of that water made it into the tent!The vestibule itself is handy, as it gives ample space to store gear. However, cold air/wind can enter the tent from the gap between the vestibule part of the rainfly and the ground.

This tent is my absolute favorite. I have a few tents, but this one tops all. It’s so easy to put up and break down. The rain protection is impeccable. It holds heat, but also has ventilation if it gets too hot, which it never really does on summer nights in New England.

I like that I can stand up in the tent and don’t have to be sitting down or bent over when getting my gear set up or getting dressed. It’s the perfect size to fit my cot and other gear with plenty of room to move around.

what I don’t like is the door, because no matter how I set the tent up it is way too taunt and causes stress on the seams where the zipper is, making it more difficult to zip and unzip. not to mention I’m afraid it will eventually rip.

This is my my second of this tent. I returned the first one thinking it was defective, but this one is no different. I think it is a design flaw.

For the price, this is a great tent! I got two for my 2 3-year-old grand-daughters to play outside together but apart during the pandemic. They are only 3 1/2 but it is a tent they will be able to use as they grow because it is a legit tent for camping and is probably big enough for their parents and them to sleep in.

It takes a few minutes or less to set up, and is quicker with two people. There are two sets of poles that are connected by a tether, so they only need to be threaded through two “sleeves”, after you click them together.

Taking the tent down is just as simple but folding it to get it back into the carrying bag will take practice. It comes with stakes to hold it down at the 4 corners. This tent seems sturdy enough. The kids love it! It looks just like the picture.
