20 Best Tent Repair Tape (2022 Updated)

I purchased enough tape to equal 16m in inch wide strips so I could replace the seam sealing on an entire hiking tent (base and fly). That’s a lot of tape. After spending days removing any evidence of the pre-existing failed tape and it’s residue, I replaced it all in accordance to the advice and instructions I’d found online – there are none provided with the product.

I was careful with the application, and gave it all time to “cure” before storing it in its bag. I was to use the tent in the coming days, spending 3 days living in it. Light rain on the first night, and the whole thing leaked.

Not ideal. Dried it and stored it to move on to the next camp site. When I took it out of its bag, most of the tape from the fly had detached and stuck the whole lot together, meaning if I was to use the tent that night, all the tape that has come off had to be removed.

So of course it rained properly that night. Everything soaked, camping trip scuttled. I’ve also tried this same tape to repair the seams of a jacket, and it looks like the same thing is happening. Not exactly value for money in anyone’s language.

And whilst it was a bit of money, it’s not even that – the whole buying process was disappointing. As a new customer, there was no way to apply the discount to the shopping cart at checkout. Instead, I get an email telling me that I had a discount I could apply providing I purchased something else within a couple of days.

Incidentally, I bought this tape in two seperate purchases as I didn’t get enough 1st time, but wasn’t aware of this until about a week later when I got around to applying it. At the point of 2nd order, there was another email telling me the same thing! At this rate, I’m not about to make another purchase here unless something about this process looks likely to be fixed.

But I doubt it. As far as internet reviews and feedback goes, I’m just another old dude screaming at the clouds. Good luck everyone.

I repaired a holey down sleeping bag I found, and also my Ortlieb panniers and handlebar bag when they fall and rip or the wheel rubs. Both the thick material and the fancier cloth like material. It’s worked in all applications.

The one application it did not work on was a hole in my stretchy bike shorts. Surprisingly the white hasn’t gathered a ton of dirt yet. I think it’s worth it to buy some and keep it in the emergency med kit while camping.

I hadn’t experienced a tape like this and it wows me! The reflective version of this I’ve added to my helmet (to cover the foam colored bits for safety) and it was totally worth it. The stickiness is superb.

I have heard great things from folks years ago about this tape. When I saw this I knew it was a must have for hiking/camping. Fixes holes and tears well when following instructions. Out in the field accidents happen and preparedness is key.

This tape will solve future problems. Wished I had this tape when my last tent got a small hole. Duct tape didn’t work very well. I ordered clear. Happy to have in my gear.

Doesn’t work. I’m not sure what other are using this for, or what reference materials they have for comparison, but this stuff does not stick. Put it on and immediately pull it and it comes right off.

No better than scotch tape. Waited a while and tried again, peels right off. There are definitely extremely better products out there! Even heated it with a lighter to maybe get the sticky too grab the surface better.

Nope. You can see from the pic that there isn’t enough “glue” to do anything.

Stoked with this! Would be awesome to have different thicknesses available depending on what material you are patching. I used this for a puffer jacket and worked fine but if there was a thinner patch it would be even better.

I was a bit dubious of the claims I’d read that this was better than duct tape. However, they were absolutely correct. This stuff is amazing! It was applied to a pack lid and I thought the repair wouldn’t last 5 minutes but it is actually looking stronger than when I first applied it.

Spend the money – you won’t be disappointed with the result.

I had a cotton blanket and was torn right in the middle about 4 inches. So I use the item to stick on it according to the instruction. Well, I had washed the blanket in the washing a few times and the tape is glued on it.

It is a valuable item to have for DIY mending. It is a wonderful product.

The seller was spot on. Tape did great job covering up some rips in my outdoor cover. It seem to really take hold, even though I really did not clean the area to seal. Very happy with seller and product.

I’ve used Gear Aid patches on down jackets and gore-tex pieces and have had awesome results. I am definitely a fan! However, this particular patch (Tenacious Tape Flex Patches) does not live up to what it claims to be capable of.

My boyfriend specifically sought these patches out to fix our inflatable raft that had a small hole chewed in it after spending the winter in our garage (darn mice and darn us for not putting it in a plastic bin! lol!).

The instructions for the patches are easy, straightforward and were followed exactly. But we still ended up stopping twice on our river float to pump up our raft and could actually hear air leaking from the patch as well at one point as the location of the hole was more on the top of the raft that sat out of the water.

We had some marine goo on hand as well, but wanted something that did not take 24 hours + to cure before being ready to use in the water. After getting back in one piece and mostly dry from our float, my boyfriend used the marine goo and the patch together which will hopefully make our next river float more enjoyable.

My son got his sleeping bag stuck in a zipper on his pack, when pulling the bag out, it tore a chunk out of the sleeping bag outer. We cut one of these patches in half, stuck one part on the inside and one on the outside and it was good to go! So far, so good.

If you cut these in half, be sure to round the square corners so they’re less likely to peel off.

My son busted the seat out of his fav Prana pants, and his climbing partner got tired of looking at his butt. These flex patches continue to hold up even after a long trip, 100 pitches…

There is nothing tenacious about this tape doesn’t stick & was a waste of time & money. Go with something else… this is not a good product. Sticks down & then rolls right off. I was trying to repair a 1/4” tear in my Patagonia vest.

I’m not at all impressed with this product, wish I could say otherwise….

I’ve only used these once, and it was to patch a tiny burn hole in my MEC Tremblant down jacket. The patch was on the wrist which is a location that gets a lot of rubbing/wear. But the patch stuck well and shows no signs of coming off.

The little plastic case they come in is great as it protects the patches from folding and crinkling wherever you put them, and it’s easy to open and close. These patches will forever come with me in my little repair kit.

Great product, black stuck really well. Yet the clear, as it was bordering on a seam line, needs ‘resticking’ or re-application. Overall, happy with the products performance.

We live on the road and I came across this item about four years ago! Purchased from Snowys this time with two rolls. It is a brilliant product, easy to use, roll out over the canvas or tarp, adheres well without leakage.

Do yourself a favour, get a couple of these on hand for camping or awning repairs to caravans. You will be HOOKED on this product👍.

Product great for sealing cracks/leaks in awning. Camping World s shipping sucks!!! Took over three weeks!!! Unacceptable!! Wonder why Amazon is ruling the online retailers.

Bought this tape to repair some small tears in an overhead deck awning. Tried some others but they lacked good adherence qualities. This tape is a little thicker than most and appears to be very sticky when applying.

Hopefully it will do the trick and last a long time. Right now it is to early to tell.

Great for doing quick repairs to backpacks, tents, ground sheets and other items.

I found the tape to be easy to install and it behaves well as you’re doing it. Haven’t tried it out on the torn coat yet as it’s warm now. Will know more later. Liked it so well I ordered another.

This is a super product to use to repair down filled items like vests, jackets or sleeping bags.

The pack includes 4 patches which are roughly 3 inches in diameter each. Big enough that you could cut one patch to fix multiple smaller holes. The patch looks like mesh but is backed with an adhesive.

These patches don’t breathe or blend in particularly well with mesh. The adhesive seems to bind adequately but probably not permanently. Pretty expensive for what it is. In the future I’d use duct tape for a field repair then use an iron on patch or glue on a piece of fabric once home for permanent repair.

Apparently as one gets older one tends to poke alot of holes in the tent. It takes longer to separate the patch from the backing than to slap it on the rip in the tent. The real test will be if the patch is still attached next spring.

While time and field use will tell, this appeared good quality, and very easy application. But time will tell!

My kid melted a small area of his down jacket by standing too close to a portable heater. Brand new, so we were bummed. But this tape is pretty amazing. It sticks to the fabric like crazy. Looks good and you can hardly tell it was taped.

I also recently used it as a surface for an iron-on patch. Didn’t stick well to the jacket directly. So we cut out a shape that matched the patch, stuck it on and then ironed on the patch over it. Worked really well and patch is staying put.

Bought this to repair my sleeping bag as I washed it then put it in the tumble dryer which melted some of the nylon. Wanted something to patch the burnt bits as I didn’t want to buy a new sleeping bag.

The tape came in strips of different sizes. I had to cut it in halve as there wasn’t enough. I then had to peel it from the backing strip. I noticed the tape wasn’t very sticky and started coming away straight away.

The strips are different colours, green, yellow, red. It would have been better if it was all the same colour and on a roll.

I was trying to economize the life of a 7-yr old Jansport backpack. I put strips of this product on the bottom portions, which have worn from cycling & general urban -life wear. It stayed on for about a week or two, then during 100 degree California temps , pieces of the tape have just rolled off.

There’s pieces of it @ my residence, workplace & metro stations. Poor quality ‘adhesive’.

It was very easy to repair the tear in the tent’s nylon rain cover. Will not know till later this summer how well the repair will stand up under wind & rain. Will try & update later this summer. If it holds up well to the weather, you couldn’t buy a better product for ease of application.

This kit is targeted at Campground Tents (fiberglass poles) rather than backpacking tents, though all but the pole repair ferrules can work for either. The ferrules are steal, and dippled. That is great if you have a fiberglass pole (typical on a less expensive campground tent) break near the end.

You can pull off the old ferrule (saw and/or pliers), and tape or glue on one of these. Since the ferrules are steal, and dippled in the middle (to facilitate fiberglass end pole repair), they are not designed for aluminum backpack pole sets, I would purchase another solution for aluminum poled tents.

The ripstop nylon adhesive backed patch worked great on a tent (and on a backpack) for repair. It is NOT waterproof (e. g. it is NOT polyurethane coated, PUL), so it is not really suitable for rainfly repair (use duct tape for a field repair on a rainfly).

If you use the ripstop here for rainfly repair, you will also need to buy some polyurethane tent floor repair coating (which REI also sells) to waterproof the patch ripstop. Shockcord length of 45″ only useful for perhaps cutting and extending and existing cord, or cutting and splicing.

My one note on the rip-stop nylon w/ adhesive backing is that to be useful, you really need to have a pair of scissors. (Look in your first aid kit in the field). Mesh screen material and the nylon thread together are fine.

Seam seal is fine. If you need rainfly repair, buy a different kit (such as a large air matress repair kit, which are air-proof and hence waterproof). This kit also does not come with a large chunk of seam tape.

That would be useful. It basically is what it says. They even note the ferrule restrictions in the writeup, but that is far less obvious in the store.

I bought this kit to repair a tent pole. The ferrule size was close but still too large so I added electrical tape around the pole and then applied the ferrule. All good now.

It’s not a happy time when you find that you are 3+ miles into the back country, go to set up our tent, and find one of the poles broken. This handy repair kit will fix the problem – at least long enough until you can order a new pole.

I won’t go into the back country (or even on a weekend camping trip) without this kit.

I bought this repair kit for the positive reviews posted. Though after following the instructions for application precisely it just didn’t work patching a small tear on my EDC tactical slingbag. Will definitely get the damage professionally repaired or get issued another slingbag.

Works great for attaching my climbing helmet to my pack. Affordable enough, and you get two of them. They are lightweight but the buckles still seem pretty solid. Should hold up just fine for my needs.

I used this tape to repair a small tear in a down coat. Following the lead of a YouTube video, I cut into the inside lining, cleared the down from the area of the outside tear, lined it up and taped it.

Then taped the incision on the inside. From the outside, can’t even tell there ever was a tear, and from the inside, just a small piece of tape no one ever sees. Place and press, and this tape looks to have permanent adherence, great product!.

I used this on a convertible hood , my plastic widow split just where it joined the fabric I used a small piece to join it then I put a complete strip across the whole length of the window. It looks great no one will even know it was split now.

I used a hair dryer just to warm it slightly and cleaned the area first and it stuck a treat. I even have loads leave incase it fails in the future.

Used on seams to repair small stitch pulls. Appears to be doing the job. Water tested and no leaks so far. Very happy with product and easy to use.

Brilliant for repairing tents, I used it to waterproof the main seam on my 20 year old ridge tent, first time I used it after it had been repaired we had a thunderstorm and terrific downpour, yet the tent remained dry and cosy.

Would recommend it to anyone.

I put tape on a rain proof cycling jacket to fill two small holes. Have put a few hundred miles on bike wearing jacket with tape. Hasn’t shown any signs of coming off. Even through heavy rain on two occasions.

I highly recommend this product.

tried to repair atv seat with hole on curved edge of the seat. This material does not stretch and wrinkles in curved areas. Also rolled up the first time someone slid across it.

I love Kampa tape and have used it many times. It’s great for repairing tears in tents and is completely waterproof. However, I was a bit disappointed when my parcel arrived as I was expecting a reel of tape and only got a strip; the advert was misleading I felt.

Hi there-Yes I wish too tell any one interested why this item was worth its money! The number one box too tick-the repair tap worked-was strong and stayed in place, binding the hole in my ex-military canvas tent.

The repair was important to my self having tried other repair tapes before I bought Kampa tape-Also the high winds and rain made the repair more difficult and other tapes didn’t hold for long and came off and I found the tape on the floor later.

Kampa tape I used has a last try and didn’t hope for much-expecting the hole too widen over the next few days of bad weather. I was happy and surprised because the tape didn’t look or feel any different from the other tapes I had used over the week-So I slapped Kampa tape over the hold and in the morning was prepared too start swearing at the useless tape and too call it a waste of money-when I notice the hole was still covered, how wonderful-my equipment is ok not rained on now-the Kampa tape is very cheap but its worth is much higher indeed!!!.

This is brilliant tape with strong adhesive qualities. Being colourless it makes a good repair to any coloured tent or awning material and even my breathable caravan cover. However, at only 50 cm (20 inches), this a very expensive product (31.

8p/inch with “free” postage). As with most things, you get far better value from buying a larger roll.

Had new top windows sewn into my awning and had to seal the seams as water was coming through the new stitching. It was a bit fiddly but we pushed as much of the sealer into the holes and after the next rainfall was pleased the water had stopped.

This was used to repair an inflatable mattress. To obtain the best possible adhesion the flocked finish was removed by sanding the area and the supplied adhesive was applied. The repair has been successful.

There are two patches in each pack.

I used this on an inflatable chair by easy camp comfy range and works without any problems. I left it for over 12 hours to cure when using the glue as well and had mo issues. I would definitely recommend keeping this with you whilst out camping and it not so big at all to store away.
