20 Best Tequilas For Shots (2022 Updated)

I bought Camarena Reposado since the tequila I usually buy was out of stock. But I had also read the reviews on the Total Wine and More site about this brand. I decided to give it a try and I was wonderfully surprised at the reactions of my guests.

They all loved the smooth taste. Even my wife who usually can not finish a margarita was up for seconds and thirds. Wow!!! Unbelievable I said. Well I don’t have to tell you which is my new to go to tequila now.

Yes, Camarena Reposado! I’m glad you guys were out of the other brand for once.

My family was looking for a reasonable priced tequila to make a signature drink for a wedding. This is the one we agreed had the best taste for our budget. We ended up not going with a signature drink, but we found a good tequila to make make margarita’s for parties.

If you like a smoother margarita without the harshness from the Silver or Gold Tequilas, this will not disappoint you. I doubt you will find any any alcohol that a room full of people will agree on, but I think this one will please most of them.

Excellent reposado for the dollar. Certainly one of the smoothest in its price range. Decent legs, smooth finish, low burn. You can definitely taste the agave.

Too many additive sugars, too young of agave used, tastes extremely cheap and rushed thru distillation. The reason why it tastes “good, smooth, & easy to shoot” to many people here is because of their sweet tooth.

This has a lot of added sugars and sweeteners, which is why you get bad hangovers (same goes for casamigos, 818, etc). All those additives and shortcuts are the reason you hate yourself in the morning.

That’s a big problem with celebrity tequila, as well as the “bastardizing” of the ancestral art of agave distillation by any big name with $20k, but that’s a whole different conversation. Don’t buy this tequila unless you like sugar water and expect a hangover in the morning.

If that’s your vibe though, go for it. You can find way better quality at the same/less price in reputable brands like Fortaleza, Corcel, Cazadores, etc.

Wow, killer tequila!! Smooth, great nose, with an oak and vanilla whisper. If you are looking for a kill-it-with-lime-and-salt slam experience, keep buying the cheap and leave Teremana to those who sip and savor.

Have you ever taken Xanax and not remembered anything the next day. This tequila will not only make you not remember anything from the previous evening but will give you the worse migraine of your life for the entire next day.

At first I thought it was just a fluke that maybe I was just dehydrated or something. But no it’s happened every time I have drank it. Even if it’s just a shot or two. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and had it several times thinking it might have just been me.

It’s kinda crazy and scary. I honestly feel like it was poisoning me. And I love tequila is the bad thing. This tequila has made me second guess even drinking ANY tequila again.

I found out that Dwayne Johnson “The Rock” owns this tequila so I went and purchased it today and after tasting it right out of the bottle I said out loud “Holy Crap ! this is good” ! Really Tasty alone and on the rocks.

OMG , its really good , full of flavor, not tarty like silver tequila that makes tour mouth pucker up lol. Its really smooth and full of flavor, its definitely a great drink all by itself, its too rich and heavy for a margarita so i’d go with his silver one for a margarita, enjoy this Great Sipping Anejo ! Great flavor, super smooth neat or on tye rocks, and great price for the quality. I liked it so much I went back and bought 2 more bottles. It homestly tastes like a top shelf tequila you would pay normally around $120 for.

I hope they keep this around at that price for awhile. Give it a shot.

The Teremana Anejo is tasty. It has a fuller flavor, more intense to the palate if you will. Has a stronger ‘tequila’ flavor followed by hints of vanilla and caramel. It’s nice, great sipper on rocks.

I am looking forward to being able to buy it once it’s here locally.

This is my favorite blanco tequila for sure, I have tried Patron, Herredura, Espalon, whatever The Rock made, Don Sergio, and have to say this is the best. It has the grassy/fruity flavor that I can only say is agave, and doesn’t have any smoke or medicinal quality while also being very smooth.

It’s also a good price, and is in a pretty glass bottle, so you can have it around without it being an eyesore or a shame. I wouldn’t say this is a tequila you drink for “standing out or have as your plain drink for the night on ice, but that’s not how I drink tequila.

It is good on ice, but it’s perfect for making cocktails, and very good for taking a shot too. Not for flexing with on its own, but for the home bar, it’s my go to.

I read reviews and thought to give this a try. I think this is among my go-to tequilas now! It is so freaking delicious and great to just sip. Haven’t tried it in a mixed drink or margarita, but with how good it is for sipping, I’m assuming it’ll be great.

I am so glad the clerk at Total Wine recommenced this Tequila when my regular brand was out of stock. I think it’s even better then the more expensive brand I was buying, and from now on this will be my regular brand.

I bought this based on a bartender’s recommendation, and discovered that I actually do like tequila – when it’s good tequila. I used to associate tequila with Jose Cuervo and a spirit that I never got on with.

I was amazed at how much better Espolon is – at only $4 more. Espolon Blanco has a lovely aroma of agave with hints of citrus, and is very smooth with a slight sweetness and a nice, clean agave flavor.

It mixes great, but also makes for a really good sipper. I often drink it neat. Espolon is on the milder side, flavor wise, but I actually like that. I’ve since tried other, more expensive tequilas – El Padrino, Casa Noble, Patron – and I actually prefer Espolon.

It doesn’t have the strong vegetal flavors and funkiness of more expensive tequilas, but instead has a really nice, clean agave flavor. If you’re looking for something bold, vegetal, and funky, look to the other brands I mentioned.

But if you just want something smooth and tasty, definitely give this a try. I also tried Espolon Reposado, but was not a fan – it tasted like the Blanco with a bit more wood and lime flavor and a weird, unpleasant finish.

I feel like the Reposado introduced enough wood to muddle and confuse the clean flavor of the Blanco but not enough to give it that woody, smoky character, and I don’t know what is with the weird aftertaste.

I ended up using it as a mixer (where it worked well). I would stick with the Blanco from Espolon and look to another brand for a Reposado (like El Padrino or Casa Noble).

Tequila is normally my drink of choice and I always look forward to new bottles. Espolon has my heart right now! I prefer it over Casamigos. It’s perfect for shots and margaritas. It has a smooth warm taste that doesn’t linger to harshly on your tongue.

I have been buying this product for over a year and will continue. The blanco version is great too! PS. Makes a great mango margarita.

I normally buy Olmeca Altos Plata Tequila for just under $50 for a 1. 75 L. I saw this and had read its the best tequila for the price. I took a chance and bought a 1. 75 L bottle for just $7 more It’s amazing! So smooth.

Great flavor. I would put this up against Patron Silver any day. You can spend at least $50 for a 750 ml bottle of Patron. I definitely found my new fave tequila :).

Okay, so I’m new to tequilas. I enjoy Margaritas and Palomas, so I began to experiment with different blanco tequilas and even some Reposado and Anejo for the Margaritas. As I write this, I have several bottles open and ready for comparison with Don Julio Blanco: Avion Silver, Patron Silver, Dos Armadillos, Siete Leguas, Herradura Silver, Casamigos and Espolon Blanco.

Online reviews of DJ say something about “nose”, “palate” and “finish”. terms of art with descriptions of pepper, menthol, fruit and agave. In my taste comparisons here’s what I came up with: DJ has a hint of medicinal alcohol along with stronger agave aroma.

I’m drinking tequila in mixed drinks, not sipping, so the aroma on the nose is irrelevant to me. Suffice it to say, none of the tequilas had a disagreeable aroma. Some were “fruit-ier” than others, some had stronger alcohol aroma (Espolon), but all were okay.

Tasting each, the most agave forward, to me, were the Avion Silver, Patron Silver and Dos Armadillos. In a Margarita, the sweetest was Cosamigos by a little bit but the Espolon was almost identical! And cost $20 dollars less.

Forget you, George Clooney. Admittedly, the Patron Silver tasted very smooth in a Margarita, but the Don Julio also extremely smooth. I think Patron’s rep might get in the way, since my tasting group all had raves about Don Julio in a blind taste test of margaritas.

So, the bottom line is that Don Julio stands with the rest of the upper crust of blanco tequilas in making an excellent margarita. I prefer the DJ blanco to the DJ reposado that I tried side-by-side in margaritas as well.

IMHO you cannot go wrong with DJ Blanco. is it “the best”? No such thing exists. And price doesn’t always predict. I’m looking at you Casamigos. Espolon has your number!.

Spendy tequila for people that dont like tequila I guess? I found this to be devoid of any traditional flavors, aromas or character of tequila. It is heavily muted almost like what you might imagine tequila would be if you passed it through a brutal a few times and watered it down with tap water.

The store AM recommended it but said I should return it if I didn’t like it. I shall, this isn’t good neat and adding it to a cocktail or mixer wouldn’t make for an enjoyable beverage that could t be bettered with a different tequila.

Big fail by Don Julio IMO.

This tequila is the most phenomenal tequila I’ve ever had. Now, just because I’m Mexican and my family is from Jalisco doesn’t give me more street cred and I’m not a professional nor do I claim to be one, however, I know what tastes good and this is PHENOMENAL!! I have had tons of types of tequila (not mezcal, they’re different) throughout my life.

There are smoky ones to crisp ones, some that bend your hair while others sneak up on you. Casamigos is smooth and finishes with the very distinct flavor of a tequila blanco. And it’s definitely a sneaky one.

It isn’t one bit smoky, the initial flavor is like a drink of the most delicious water you’ve ever drank and then finishes, like I said, the classic, pure, flavor only tequila has. It totes a “smooth vanilla finish” which I agree with.

What’s best is it’s pretty affordable for a higher quality liquor. ¡Buen hecho Señor Clooney!.

I’ve had a couple tequilas but Casamigos is the best out there. It’s smooth and crisp. I don’t drink anything else but Casamigos. George Clooney did well with this. This is the best tequila for your money.

At only $40ish you get the best there is in this range. Don Julio is close but there’s something about Casamigos that you just like a lot of. It has the typical tequila attributes but it has a kick to it, in a good way.

I drink 5 shots and I’m great. If you are just getting into tequila, or want to try, get this. Won’t disappoint!!.

No real tequila connoisseur would ever recommend this over-priced marginal product. If you like stripped down agave and vanilla extract additives, this is your jam. Personally, it’s the only tequila that’s given me a stomach ache.

A good rule of thumb is to stay away from celebrity spirits as most of the money spent goes toward marketing and not into the quality of the spirit itself. Speaking of over-hyped tequila, is it any wonder Clase Azul is produced at the same facility?.

I have tried patron, Don Julio, el padrino, 1800, and volcan di mi terrà cristalino. Let me tell you this is the absolute best out there. Worth every penny. It hits the nose with sweet agave, slight vanilla and barrel.

But goes down so smooth. I mean you wouldn’t even know there was alcohol in this I have no idea how they achieved this. The finish is honey and vanilla but not too sweet. You could literally gulp down an entire glass it goes down like water.

Zero additives. I haven’t tried the three digit tequilas but really how can it get better than this? No wonder it’s always sold out everywhere. Reddit is on fire with this one and I can see why. I put one round ice cube but this one can be enjoyed neat.

Wow just wow. Sucks because it’s 79 bucks lol. Worth EVERY PENNY. If you can get it enjoy.

Hard to obtain for a reason. This stuff is smooth! Tasty too! No additives. When offered to drinking partners, they thought I had cut it with water that it was so smooth. Then they would stare at the cup , let the flavor unfold and claim it to be at the top of their lists for tequilas.

The taste of agave develops with a balance of spice, nut, and a slight citrus. A very miniscule bite. This one’s best enjoyed neat for me. On the rocks won’t hurt, but I don’t recommend that. Definitely give this one a try at least!.

I’ve been drinking the Repo, and blanco for several months and the much anticipated Anejo finally hit my local market. If you don’t know the brand, they are not new. Fortaleza (branded under Los Abuelos in MX) is one of a handful of distilleries that still crushes the agave with the Tahona stone.

imo, that old school extraction method alone imparts a unique taste on the juice. Secondly, Anejos can be a little tricky as they have more barrel time than a reposado. Tequila lovers typically like the agave influence because that’s what makes tequila unique.

Too much barrel influence and some tequila connoisseurs think you may as well be drinking bourbon. Fortaleza really knows the art of balancing the barrel flavors while maintaining a healthy presence the agave.

This Anejo is on the pricey side, but it’s one of the best I’ve had including others that cost a lot more. the agave shines through on the nose and palette but also hints of vanilla, and caramel from the barrel.

Like any good tequila it has a little spice heat, but it’s an ultra smooth sipper neat, little to no alcohol burn, and zero additives. I personally would never mix this one. If you can find it, but two bottles!.

G4 is my favorite blanco so far after tasting this against, 7 leguas blanco, Pasote blanco, Herradura ultra anejo cristalino, Kirkland Signature Silver. I would say the 7 leguas blanco is a close second.

The pasote just doesn’t taste like anything. It is so clean that it doesn’t leave any flavor on the palette.

It’s one of the great no additive brands but for some reason this anejo doesn’t work for me. It’s got great reviews at TMM but for me it’s a pass. I love the blanco G4 but I am at a loss as to why the anejo misses the mark.

Don’t let my review stop you from at least trying it. I am still going to recommend it.

I am very impressed with this level of attention to refinement. From agave flavor to aging, this repo delivers the right balance of refreshing taste without being confused for something too oak-based or falling on the bourbon barrel trend.

This is true f’n agave. And decently complex.

There are so many great tequilas out there to drink, and this is one of them. Smooth burn, not too much barrel flavor. Vanilla, spice, pepper, fresh agave, this tequila has all the flavors you would look for in a Reposada.

It has quickly become a household favorite, and our household has many visitors. We all agree, this is the good stuff for the price.

This is made by master distiller Enrique Fonseca who also produces $400 bottles of tequila. This is even made at the same facility. Great value for the money. Blows away Casamigos, Herradura, Sauza, Hornitos, Casadores, Casa Azule and is better than Patron when we tasted it blind side by side.

I honestly didn’t want to write this review because I don’t want this store runs out of this amazing tequila. However the credit needs to be given and more people should know about this. It has it all.

Cooked Agave, buttery smooth, citrus and mineral. Even vanilla that is from Agave not addictive. Truly a masterpiece made to be sipped.

I had been searching for a bottle of G$ Reposado for over a year. It is not available in my state. Even a cruise to Mexico yielded nothing. Then I head about Del Mesa on the Tequila Subreddit and immediately placed my order.

They shipped it quick and Larry in Customer Service helped me when FedEx misplaced the bottle for a few days. Del Mesa is wonderful! Thanks again!.

I bought this on the basis of over 85 five star reviews and only 18 four star or less reviews. How can 85 people be wrong? Well, these reviews are completely off. This tequila is complete garbage. It tastes like the smell of kerosene, lighter fluid and gasoline combined! This tequila isn’t even on the same level as a gallon jug of no name brand tequila.

Don’t waste your hard earned money. Do yourself a favor and spend $43. 99 on a 1. 7L bottle of anything but Codigo.

The most expensive bottle of tequila I had purchased up to this point was Parton Silver. I didn’t plan on it, but I just had to try it. After hearing George Stait’s song about the tequila I was interested.

So I did a little research and decided to give it a try. Glad I did. I was surprised at how smooth the Anejo is. It’s a great sipper for me. On the nose I caught a sent of something a little peppery and butterscotch.

At first I didn’t get those notes because I don’t think my sample had opened up enough. After we swirled it more the butterscotch really came to the top. The initial taste gave me a little more pepper and some earthiness to it.

Made me think of the agave plants for sure. As it went back it seemed to to pick up sweetness with very little burn on the back end. I’ve shared this with a few friends who are scared of tequila because of experiences with the cheaper tequilas and they were very impressed.

If you have room in the budget for a nice bottle, I would take a look at Codigo.

The rating is based more on my preferences and palate and not necessarily the quality of the tequila. I prefer my blancos on the grassy, herbaceous side with the taste and aroma of the cooked agave. With Codigo 1530 I pick up very little of that, and more of barrel character like vanilla, pepper, and oak.

It’s slightly boozy with a nice warmth (I drink it straight), and no sweetness which is great. It’s a great tequila if you prefer more of the barrel notes as described, but it’s not my cup of tea (or tequila).

Salud.

I think this tequila can serve people who focus their profile on texture and others who prefer flavor. Very smooth, minimal burn (compared to cheap tequilas), and very very agave forward. In that sense, Fortaleza would be considered blanco at its finest, because it has one of the best agave (that sugary, cooked agave juice profile) expressions for under $50.

Perfect for aficionados to sip.

If you look for the most traditional, artisanal and almost ancestral way of distilling tequila, Fortaleza delivers it 100%. Tequila with no additives as most commercial brands do. With the still strenght you get the more complex and rich side of the brand.

Notes of cooked agave are prominent on the very first sip. Cannot go wrong.

I have a friend who insists she only likes “clear” spirits… Blanco Tequila, White Rum, Gin…. I made her a Siesta with this Reposado without mentioning what tequila I was using. Well, of course she loved it, and now realizes maybe a little aging in her spirit is ok… Lol.

Me personally, I have tried a few brands of resposado tequila and i really love this one in my favorite cocktails. Very smooth, very classic, great tequila for the price point. Don’t buy cheap tequila, you definitely get what you pay for.

This is worth spending a little more on a bottle, without breaking the bank on more expensive tequilas.

I got this bottle REALLY wanting to like it, but I don’t think it’s made for us semi-snobish tequila sippers. I’m an anejo sipper and this sugary vanilla concoction of “reposado” tastes fake and artificial to me.

I get where a lot of people would like it, it tastes, it tastes like a candy bar. It could be an easy tequila for a lot of people. But not me. I’d take a budget anejo like cazadores or lunazul over this.

Casamigos Reposado Tequila A tequila brand started by George Clooney and sold to Diageo in 2017. The first time I had this tequila was in 2015 and I really liked it. Since the acquisition, it’s evident that Diageo has put their commercial spin on the product’s quality as well as the branding.

My gf made me buy this bottle because everyone on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills drink Casamigos. The nose is absurdly vanilla and caramel with faint roasted agave underneath along with pineapple.

The palate a punch of vanilla, powdered sugar, caramalized agave. This quickly transitions into pepper, minerality and has a vegetal-mineral finish. This tequila definitely opens up after a few minutes to bring out the flavors of the tequila from the vanilla.

My biggest compliant of tequila is the 1% additive flexibility that distillers are allowed to use and still call their product tequila. The use of vanilla is present in this bottle because it’s way too sweet for Reposado (which is my preferred expression of tequila).

Overall, this is a well made tequila but I wouldn’t buy it again because of the Creamsicle degree of sweetness.

I was gifted a bottle. I am not much of a home drinker, but during the pandemic I found myself wanting a drink once or twice a week. A coworker wanted to by me a bottle of something and I asked him to pick me a nice tequila to sip on and he chose Avión Anejo.

I really enjoy it. It’s a nice change of pace from cocktails. Just a couple fingers and a few cubes and it makes for nice relaxing tipple. The notes and flavor are very complex, but also approachable.

I was growing on my Avion taste and needed to expand it. As a bourbon drinker as well, it was an intriguing chapter of taste! Delicious and WARM as I sipped a few time. Then discovered it in a Golden Margarita & Paloma Spritzer.

A whole new dimension!.

Very smooth perfect taste. Goes well with or without food. Good price when on sale. The brand would explode with the right marketing and pricing. Better snag Joe Burrough and Jimmy Allen to promote.

Normally I reserve my bad reviews but I was so disappointed with this tequila, I don’t understand the other good reviews about this being a good sipping tequila. I’m a big tequila drinker and I would definitely not buy this tequila again.

It has too much wood taste that it overpowered the tequila flavor in it. It also has an aftertaste that was not pleasent. Don’t wast your money on this tequila!!.

Love it. This is one of my favorite tequilas. I only drink blancos. This blanco is smooth tasting with no burn with a bit of pepper taste. I drink it straight from a cup, no ice. Try it soon!

El Mayor Reposado is a 5 star great sipping tequila. But for margaritas, its only 3 stars because the lightness of the flavor gets dominated by in the triple sec and the lime. In margaritas you have to use double the normal amount of El Mayor to taste it, which messes of the balance of the margarita.

i’ve recently been exploring my tequila options and have yet to take a shot that literally made me gag while drinking. until now. not only did it take a total of 4 tries to finish 1 shot, but i was actively trying to keep myself from puking.

Typically i take my tequila shots with no salt and occasionally no lime, but this one. oh my gosh, ended up chugging dr. pepper in between every attempt at this one single shot. I’ll stick with Patron, Cazadores, and Don Juilo.

don’t even waste your money on this mess. there are no words to describe this tequila other than absolutely disgusting.

My guess is this has additives for color and flavor. Depends on whether that matters to you or not. Neck pour was awesome – Agave, caramel, oak, tobacco, spices. Two weeks later and it was like the bottle had gone flat to a one dimensional agave note.

It was a decent one time experience but I will likely not purchase this again as I now opt for additive free tequilas.

We are looking for a replacement for Casamigos Anejo, which has been unavailable for months. The 1800 Añejo is more harsh and there is a decent finish with a little caramel, but not much. It is definitely better than 3 Amigos and Siete Leguas.

This can be considered a sipping tequila, but it’s not a favorite. It would be great for margaritas although expensive.
