20 Best Th350 Shift Kit (2022 Updated)

Just finished using this kit to rebuild my TH350 trans that had burnt up 1st rev clutches on my drag race vette. Kit is complete except no bushings or thrush washers, bearings. instruction were good but pictures where black and white not really good enough to see.

buy your self a book and video it will make it a lot easier for 1st timers. had to punch two holes out on the gaskets they didn’t tell how to do that use a small piece of metal tubing the same size of the hole.

had all the seals and gaskets, steels and clutches needed very complete kit minus the thrush washers and bushings.

I have purchased & installed literally dozens of B&M overhaul kits & shift kits and swear by their quality components and excellent results. with the addition of the shift kit components and clear, easy to follow instructions, this Transkit made the process that much more convenient.

I found many of the illustrations to be poor quality like they have been recopied too many times, but otherwise I would highly recommend this product to anyone doing a performance rebuild.

The seals, steels, and the fibers were great quality. The pictures in the instructions manual were poor though. Everything worked out well just had to purchase the bushings and pump pistons separately.

Will purchase this product again.

I installed the shiftplus about a month ago. Very easy to install and works amazing. I put 32×11. 50 tires on my 07 colorado 3. 7L. It struggled to shift. Now, with the shiftplus installed, running it on the first stage, even with my work equipment in back and it shifts better than when I had the stock tires and no shiftplus.

installation was very easy. i did it at the trans end. 1972 monte carlo with 1995 lt1 with 4l60e. only drove it 3-4 times. cant really tell the difference. i want to see a difference but honestly dont see it.

maybe i did something wrong. would not recommend it at this point. maybe i got a bad unit?.

Works as advertised, installation was fairly easy. Only complaint would be the connectors are cheap. After I stripped the wires better it worked perfectly.

I didn’t use the screws they provide to Mount it to the floor, they were not the most sturdy looking. I welded 1/4 studs to the floor. I put a few washers under the driver’s side to level it out. The cable loop comes close to the summit headers.

I zip tied the cable towards the block and wrapped the header pipe in fiberglass heat wrap. The kick down linkage will touch the shift linkage. Just bend the shift tab slightly down and the kick down tab slightly up.

Shifts smooth. This is on a 904.

I bought my StarShifter in 1988 and it has worked perfectly for over 20 years. I feel the service that cable and shifter have provided is outstanding. The fun and no miss dual gate shifts of this shifter are worth buying the replacement cable to use on my 74 Omega 350SB balanced and blue printed, 350 Trans, 350HP, & Limited Slip Rear end.

Can hardly wait for the replacement cable to arrive so I can continue red lining the engine without missing a shift. Best Automatic shifter I ever had, Highly recommended Gear head from Chicago.

Shifter works great. Operates smooth and looks great. Only thing is since its universal for Chevy it didn’t fit exactly right. But other than that it looks good and operates smooth.

Shifter claims to work with th400 trans. Does NOT come with correct gate for a rmvb. Had to buy one for $80 more. Shifter cable will not adjust correctly, if you read online other have had to use holes in bracket the directions say not to.

Unit looks nice, is nice quality feeling. Just won’t function correctly for me.

I used this shifter on my 91 fox with a Chevy drivetrain. Replaced the ashtray with the shifter and it works great! 10/10 product, real comfortable on the hand.

Easy installation, beautiful finish and all shift points are money! I recommend for sure.

Took about 5 hours to put this in yesterday. For my application it required a lot of modification and fabrication, including cutting down the provided shift rods and using a die to thread the modified rod.

There was much cutting and grinding needed to make the parts fit and work well. We also had to assemble things a bit differently for clearance purposes. Calling this “universal” is kind of a mislabeled! In short, looks cool, works well, but be ready to heavily modify and go off instruction to make it work!.

Like most “universal” kits there is going to be a little modifications but it works perfectly on my 1979 camaro on a 1976 4wd GMC jimmy frame. Had to extend the linkage the kit came with that goes to the transmission but nothing a welder couldn’t fix.

Great product. But do not follow the stencil in the instructions. The stencil is not even close.

This shifter is REALLY nice!! Very functional, looks GREAT and was easy to install. I’ve received a lot of comments on it and a couple friends of mine have even went out and purchased their own after looking at mine.

I really like this product east to install and the price was good for what it is.

This shifter operates very smoothly, it is not the prettiest shifter on the marker but I guarantee it is the smoothest shifting one out there. The optional command center is very nice also. I will never go back to any other shifter out there.

Simple installation! All Good, and no more sluggish shifts. I had been considering a rebuild on my tranny, however the B&M kit has really done the job. It will snap your neck with a fast and positive shift.

While this kit is cheaper than most, it is because it doesn’t have the valve body springs. I didn’t realize until I was doing the install. Other than that, it was fine. As others have mentioned, the directions were black and white and difficult at best to understand some of them.

I had to resort to a video on you-tube. Also, Make sure when putting the valve body back on that you connect the S hook to the linkage before bolting it down because it does not fit after tightening the 17 bolts.

I installed this in my 1998 Volvo v90 with the aw30-43 transmission. I used the “hot rod” setting and it’s hust what this car needed. 1-2 shift shifts sooner and it is not harsh with the hot rod setting.

2-3 shift is nice and firm but not harsh. Downshifts are quick and positive feeling. It goes into torque converter lock up sooner and stays there. Before the transmission was in and out of torque converter ton the interstate.

It took me about three hours to do on a lift. All I needed was a pan gasket and filter. I chose not to go back with the Volvo pink sealant. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Take your time and read the directions.

I was admittedly nervous to break open the valve body on my transmission to install this shift kit but I followed the included instructions to the letter and it turned out great! Shifts in my 4runner are much improved.

I used the “truck” options during installation. I would suggest some transmission assemble lube to make reinstalling the accumulators and valve body much easier.

I’ve used this kit on several toyota/Lexus transmission to make them survive longer under boost pressure. Great kit if you’re on a budget with detailed instructions included.

I bought this to replace a cable operated shifter that I was not happy with in my old hot rod truck. It took me about 5 hours to remove the old shifter and totally install the Lokar. This is a very well made solid feel shifter.

I like the push button on the knob. The detents are clear and precise. I like to buy from Jegs because the order is always correct and the shipping is quick.

Frist of all they sent me parts that been returned from some else. It was missing parts, we called to to a man and told us we had to call lokar. We called lokar the y were very nice. To make a long short, it was a total mess.

I have bought a lot of parts from Jegs but after episode I am switching to Summit Racing for my parts. I am rating the product that I received from Summit.

great product, great engineering and easy to read directions, only reason I gave it a 4 is because the bolts that replace the 2 tail shaft bolts that mount the shiftier to trans not long enough, they would have worked but I wasn’t comfortable using them.

B & M 81120 Stealth Pro Ratchet Shifter used with 700R4. The reverse lockout lever doesn’t work as shown in the video. Once in neutral, the reverse lockout lever has to be pushed and held forward until the shifter is pushed into reverse.

This requires either a second hand or twisting your thumb and hand to push on the lever and shifter at the same time. Holley Tech Service was absolutely no help. The tech said his (same) shifter did the same thing and he just got used to it.

I expected either a fix or suggestion that would solve the problem – got neither. UPDATE: Reverse lockout lever problem resolved. Adjustment of shift cable using neutral as the indexing point (instead of low gear and park as per instructions) allowed the lockout lever to engage the shifter so that it moved freely to reverse and park without having to hold the lever in a forward position.

Great product with semi confusing instructions. Worked great on my 74 nova with a bench seat and 350 transmission. Helped improved track time. Take your time reading the instructions. Helpfull hint for everyone you may have to bend the tabs on the neutral safety switch and backup light switch for them to work properly and on the turbo 350 it takes two shifts to get it from park to reverse for some reason.

Wish I would have read the instructions more carefully as this made me take it apart several times thinking I had done something wrong. Besides that it a good product I would buy it again for my other projects.

LOOKS GREAT, WORKED WELL FOR ABOUT A DAY THEN THE THREADED PORTION ON TOP OF THE SHIFTER SNAPPED OFF WITH THE T-HANDLE. CALLED HURST TO SEE ABOUT A REPLACEMENT, THEY BASICALLY SAID THEY WERE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING WITH IT.

I ENDED UP DRILLING A 5/16 HOLE ON THE TOP OF THE SHIFTER AND USING SOME ALL STOCK 3/8. THIS ALONG WITH SOME TYPE 4 LOCK TIGHT DID THE TRICK. ORIGINAL THREADED PORTION IS MADE OF POT METAL NOT THE GREATEST STUFF IN THE WORLD.

SUMMIT RACINGS PART IN ALL OF THIS WAS GREAT. I GOT IT QUICKLY AND EVERYTHING WAS THERE. WILL DIFFENTLY MAKE FUTURE PURCHASES.

I have not installed it yet, but the shifter looks like a quality product. I’ve used Hurst products for over 50 years and they always are great. This shifter is going on a 1965 Falcon automatic that I just got.

My first car was a 1965 3 speed Falcon. A Hurst shifter was the first thing that I changed on the car. I’ve purchased a lot of parts from Summit over the years. They always ship quickly and their catalog and website are the best!.

Years ago I purchased a B&M Z-gate for my 68 charger because it’s what I could afford. I just installed this Hurst V-matic and it is incredible how much better this one is. Definitely worth the money.

You get what you pay for. This thing shifts so smooth and there is no doubt what gear you’ve got. Love it.

Unbelievable value! This shifter was extremely easy to install and worked well in the Jeep Commando application I used it on. Cost was by far the factor in the purchase, but ease of operation and overall performance was the Value Added.

I have not installed the shifter unit as yet. I purchased it upon investigating it through trusted recommendations by those who have used the brand and actual hands on examination of the product itself and haw well it is made.

INSTALLED THIS SWEET UNIT IN MY 1970 CHEVELLE SS. SHIFTER IS VERY SOLID AND WORKS PERFECT WITH MY TURBO 400. WORTH EVERY PENNY. WOULD BUY AGAIN. IT TOOK AWHILE TO INSTALL BUT WORTH THE WAIT. INSTALLING THIS SHIFTER ALSO RAISED THE VALUE ON MY CAR.

Lokar is a high quality shifter with great instructions for installation. No complaints. Highly recommend. The “Free” Speedway shifter boot is a different story. Can’t be installed as delivered. Have to cut opening in top, larger, to clear the shifter handle, which Lokar clearly states in their instruction sheet not to remove!! Plus the Speedway boot doesn’t clear shifter base! So I used a different boot and tossed the lousy “free” speedway boot in the trash!.

The Lokar shifter is a very well built smooth action shifter. I like the fact that I cannot accidentally shift into another gear by mistake. The shifter has a lot of adjustment with the brackets that are supplied.

I have suggested to Lokar to put in their instructions a dimension for drilling the hole in the transmission tunnel. Lokar is looking into this. This is a quality well built product, I would recommend.

It took me an afternoon, but I installed all of this kit minus the clutch springs because I didn’t trust myself to remove the front pump. I had the trans out of the vehicle so that may have been an advantage.

Buy a new separator plate of you’re installing this in a used transmission. The ball bearing ports get smooshed on used plates and prevent longevity. If a bb gets stuck in the plate the trans will fail the 2-3 shift.

Be sure to fill the fluid all the way after assembly. I kept having to refill after each test drive up to six quarts. If I could do it again I would keep the axle off the ground and put it in gear as I filled the case with fluid.

Shifts are now sharp and crisp. The more throttle depressed, the more crisp the shift. Pair this kit with billet 2nd and 4th servos and your transmission will last much longer. With floor jacks and jackstands you can do this upgrade in one weekend.

install is pretty straight forward, follow the numbered steps omitting the steps you will not be using. verify each step after completion. keep old parts(springs) seperated from new ones as they can look identical.

i used one accumulator washer. i would advise installing the blue spring in the servo to ease second and strengthen third shift. i am running stock pressures and. 2 second shift timing for a 2002 yukon.

drove the car approximately 500 miles under normal conditions to test for possible problems and had none yet. 1800 miles on the transmission now. 1-2 shift is firm unless very low throttle. 2-3 shift is firm above low throttle, 3-4 is noticable.

lockup is noticable in fourth (set for lockup in 4th only). tested at 50-60% throttle, 1-2 shift is a hard bark, 2-3 shift is solid but doesnt break traction, 3-4 is slightly stronger than low throttle.

i am completely satisfied with the hd2. transgo has an excellent phone support.

Was having problems with my 4L60E transmission shifting from 3rd to 4th gear. Talked with Summit support to verify the kit. Got excellent support from their team so I purchased the kit and rebuilt the valve body, I also purchased and wiring harness and solenoid kit and installed it as well along with Royal Purple trans fluid.

The valve body kit was easy to install and once put back together and back on the ground the truck runs amazingly well. Shifts feel strong and positive and downshifting to any gear is possible. I recommend this kit to anyone having shift problems with this transmission.

I learned about this shift kit when I read “GM Turbo 350 Transmissions: How to Rebuild & Modify” by Cliff Ruggles. He highly recommends this kit and for good reason, IT IS AMAZING. Total install was about 3 hours including scraping & cleaning all the 1979-2018 grime off of my pan.

Instructions could be better, I used the book’s instructions (which can also can be found for free with a google search). If you have a basic understanding of mechanics and some tools this is an easy upgrade.

I installed the kit using the “race only” spring and changed my governor springs (also included in the kit) to raise my shift points. It is not harsh at all when cruising, just nice positive shift, but it means business in WOT.

In my case, WOT scratches the 1-2 shift in my C10 with BBC, 2. 76:1 rear, 28″ tires (shift occurs just over 5100 rpm @ 60 mph). Great value here, it’ll feel like you installed a newer and better trans.

In my opinion, there is no other performance upgrade you can do for this price that even comes close.

TransGo 350-1&2. Very nice shift kit. I installed this in my 72 Nova with TH350. This kit is more comprehensive than others. As other reviewers have stated the instructions are lousy and I agree but there is an informative very grainy dated video downloadable from the TransGo website.

I used the orange spring (competition only) It gave me quick but not bone jarring shifts when just cruising around and a nice 2nd gear bark when you romp on it using the stock torque converter.

Only 1 sheet of vague instruction that state “this is for professionals only”. But if your mechanically inclined and have access to online videos, you can get it done. That’s the reason for only 3 stars.

It’s well thought out kit with everything you need for the 1 or 2 option. I’m using it for a dirt track trans that will be run I second gear. So being able to hold it in a specific gear without it up shifting is what I wa looking for.

Haven’t driven the car yet, but will update after I do.

I have not installed the shifter as of now due to not having the tranny in yet. However, I have friends with this shifter (Art Carr version) and they have banged gears for many years with it without problem.

Looks good and looks sturdy.
