20 Best Thermals For Snowboarding (2022 Updated)

If you could take just one shirt on a three-season backpacking trip, this is it. I know, I have. I bought my first one back in 2017 when I decided to take a chance on an even lighter-weight long sleeve top for warmer weather camping instead of the 250 top I used (and still do).

I figured that the long sleeves would be good for sun protection and the wool fabric would give me wide temperature performance, from the cool evening temps to fairly warm daytime temps (common where I backpack in the Western US).

Indeed, after over a dozen backpacking trips since 2016, including a 12 day trip to Philmont, NM in which I basically wore the 150 the entire time, this shirt stands up to the rigors of active backcountry use.

It provides just enough warmth during cooler temps, enough breathability during strenuous efforts, and none of odor issues associated with wearing synthetic fabrics over multiple days. Sadly, my original shirt, in a fine textured gray, got a bit chewed out last year by some aggressive blackberry branches during a service project, so there are now some tiny holes in the chest area.

Though I’ve bought two new shirts to take its place, I keep wearing my old shirt despite my wife’s protests. My only complaint. the fabric is too thin to protect against mosquitoes (learned this the hard way during a Colorado backpacking trip), so you’ll need to cover up with another layer, or spray permethrin on the shirt.

Smartwool staff: Please continue to make high-quality, durable clothing like this top. I know that this top is not cheap, but when you’re in the backcountry, good equipment is much more essential than saving a couple of dollars.

I’ve owned SmartWool’s crewneck 250 weight base layers for years; over the last 10 years or so, each iteration is less durable, less comfortable and less effective weight-wise than the previous. I ordered 4 of these shirts recently and the sizing has been supersized, the tailoring varies from shirt to shirt,, one shirt has an odd sleeve that is 1 inch longer than the other sleeve, the fabric is less comfortable and the shaping around the armpits is bunchy.

I prefer the old crew neckline that had edging that was less thick/wide with minimal stitching. The baselayers I own from 10+ years ago are frayed but I prefer them for comfort and warmth over the ones that are newer.

Change for the sake of change is not necessarily innovative or an improvement. I want a weighty 100% wool baselayer that is durable, comfortable, has a solid, thin edge neckline that is more straight with less scoop, and sleeves that don’t bunch under the arms.

These shirts are expensive and should have the attention to detail that makes them worth the price. Thank you for considering my comments.

Love this SmartWool 1/4 Zip base layer top. Lightweight warmth, breathable, stink free, bulk free under an outer layer. I pair this with the SmartWool crew neck base layer top if needed for winter activities -5C and colder.

Or, wear it on its own, depending on the level of activity and warmth needed. When pairing with the crew neck top, I purchased the same colour one size smaller. Great for snowshoeing, hiking and ice skating.

Love the purple eclipse heather colour and have received compliments on the colour. This colour has a variety of light purples, greys and blues blended into the fabric. The only aspect of design I don’t like as much as the previous season’s design is the stitching detail at the shoulders.

More common stitching on this current 2022 design. Previously, the stitching was much more flattering, giving a squared shoulder appearance. Not critical, but much preferred the unique design of the past season’s design.

I wash in cold water and hang to dry and experienced no shrinkage of this top. Fit is true to size.

Four or five years ago I bought a ColdGear Base 2. 0 with 1/4 zipper. LOVE it, still my favorite warm shirt, on its own or as a base layer. It’s well made (premium spring-loaded zipper tab), soft, warm, with a waffle pattern interior.

I wanted another one, but something warmer, so I purchased the 4. 0 w/1/4 zipper. When it arrived, I was so disappointed to see that the quality was not even close to the older 2. 0. The zipper is cheap, the “feel” is cheap, and it’s not as thick as my old 2.

0! Even at the sale price of $67. 50 it’s overpriced, at retail of $90, it’s a complete ripoff. Needless to say, I’m returning it. I wouldn’t buy it at $50. Shame on Under Armour. This is the second “newer” Under Armour product that I have purchased that was sub-par.

I think I’m done with Under Armour.

I have a top and bottom XL set of 4. 0s bought several years ago, and I love them. They are the waffle design. Very warm! I recently bought a 2X 4. 0. I guess I’m still growing. When I opened the package, I was deeply disappointed the design had been changed.

The inside was just flat. I checked several times to make sure it was a 4. 0 and not a 2. 0. I put it on under my usual cold-weather clothes. I was not pleased. I felt cold, like I had a cotton t-shirt on.

Bring back the waffle design or you have lost me as a customer, and probably many more, too!.

I bought this a few weeks ago for my cold weather tree stand sits. I used it all last week for 5 sits in the 3rd week of November rifle season up here in Southern Maine. I couldn’t be more satisfied with a base layer for a cold morning.

Warning. this layer traps body heat very well so if you will be active in the cold weather dress light on the stop until you are stationary or try the 3. 0 shirt. The first morning i wore this I hiked into my stand in the low 20’s with a Carhart hoodie and broke a serious sweat.

I’m in good shape and the walk was not that strenuous. The next day I hiked in wearing this shirt and just my orange vest. I had all my layers in my pack and through them on when I got to my stand. That worked great and I was very comfortable for a long sit that morning.

Again, this is a great shirt for stand hunting. You will break a sweat with physical activity.

It just looks cool as hell with the two-tone coloring. I normally don?t go for the quarter zip but it prevents this from always being a mock turtle neck which is a massive bonus. No hood which is perfect for skiing as there?s nothing to get in the way.

The fit is great. Fully zipped is really, really cozy. Prevents need for a neck gaiter (my beard takes care of the rest). It?s well made. Stitching is great. It feels lighter than 250 weight but it could just be a more compact construction.

No issues with warmth. I?m always amazed at how little I need to vent my shell on the chairlift as the merino is just generally excellent at regulating temp. And yes, I wear it several times between washes as it never smells unless I feel it needs to be the first layer (I usually use a 150 weight base layer purely to keep this mid layer fresh for multiple uses).

I use it for more than skiing. Really good looking, versatile layer.

I love wearing the women’s merino base layer 1/4 zip — the Black Mountain Fairisle pattern gets lots of compliments. It’s so light yet so warm — I wear it all seasons of the year for hiking, walking and running around doing errands.

Easy to wash, does not ball, and looks brand new, years later. I normally wear an XS, but found it a bit tight, so traded up for a Small and it fits like a glove — neglected to read slim-fit. If I had one suggestion, I would make the 1/4 zipper longer — a couple inches deeper (e.

g. close to a 1/3 zip). I find a slightly deeper zipper makes the overhead slip-on and front ventilation better. I have the prior years’ 1/2 zip, but no need for that deep a zipper. Anyway I love the Smartwool products!.

I bought this pullover to wear traveling to and during a 7 day backpacking trip through the Peruvian Andes. I wore this every morning during the week of backpacking. I needed something that would dry quickly and not stink over the course of a sweaty week.

This did great! Temperature swings in high elevations are pretty great, and this was warm enough to wear while heading out in the morning, but kept me cool until lunch as the sun rose. My only note is I had originally bought this in blue, but exchanged it for black and the black size was definitely more snug.

It worked fine for me because I had on tank tops underneath, but it’s not really loose enough to fit long sleeves underneath.

The double layered Expedition Baselayer Pants keeps me warm while walking on the beach with the wind whipping and waves crashing around me as well as sleeping snuggly in bed. My recent purchases were to add to the first one I bought 2 winters ago.

The original one is still in excellent shape, no loose threads, no wear marks, or any negative attributes other than slightly faded. I’m expecting the same performance from the four new ones I recently purchased.

An additional benefit for me is the added level of leg compression the double layer pants over all of the single layer baselayer pants I own by Duofold as well as several different other companies.

I’ve been buying DuoFold Original Thermals for many years. I bought two pairs for my wife last year. Up until now, never had a problem. My recent purchase, not so happy. Put them in the wash and they shrank in length by 6 inches.

To me that is unacceptable. Sorry but we probably won’t be buying anything else any time soon.

Whenever the temps drop, this is my go to for winter pursuits! Layered under a wind blocking layer, this is a toasty top. I will wear it often for skiing anywhere from 10 degrees F up to 40 degrees, layered with a fleece and ski jacket.

Rock climbing, I will wear it with a fleece all the way down to low 30’s. I live in the Pacific Northwest so I haven’t been able to take it into colder temps but it dries super fast in our wet weather or during high exertion activities, like when I have gone mountain biking.

I have an athletic build and rock climb a lot. Often I struggle to find long sleeve tops to fit around my forearms comfortably and not be baggy elsewhere. This top is fantastic in that it stretches to conform to my body and not feel restrictive or overly tight.

I also have the original one that was released in 2019 and wonder if the sizing was updated. I wear a small in the 2019 model but the new, 2021 model I fit in a medium and can’t tell a difference. I feel the sizing chart is very accurate to determining what size to get and if on the cusp of sizing, I would size down to make sure this fits next to skin, so it performs well and wicks moisture away.

This could also be from the fantastic amount of stretch with the top as well. The material was also soft enough I didn’t think of it once on. I hope in the future Smartwool can release a bike friendly version of this with a drop back so it can cover me better when riding! I also think the body mapping is nice and creates nice patterns, but can’t tell a difference between that and a normal, 200 weight top without the body mapping personally.

I also worry about the durability of the top on it’s own, so I’m hesitant to wear it alone where it can get caught on rocks, branches, bushes, etc. Given the price of the top, I would probably only where it in cold weather where I can have a protective layer over it.

Overall, fantastic top though and is a favorite cold weather piece! #SmartwoolLove.

Had this for 8 months. Used it fishing in AK, on loads of cold runs, snowshoeing, etc. Shirt was a gift I am 5’10 and a slim 145lbs. I have a small and it fits very well. I love the aesthetic and circulatory design of this.

To those who don’t think it should be worn in public: It is not supposed to. It’s a technical baselayer. The sweat-wicking features are great. It dries reasonably quick for a merino wool shirt. Surprisingly warm and comfortable.

I took two stars off for: The fact that the arms are much too long compared to any other merino crew long sleeve That it stretches out much too easily (compromising the insulation value) for a $100 ($120 off-sale) shirt That I only wear this shirt underneath clothing (except running) due to how fragile it seems The impression that the 45% polyester seems to do nothing but reduce the best benefits of merino wool.

If you do not care about where your clothing is made and sourced from, invest an Icebreaker 200 or 260 Bodyfitzone Lastly: It is insane to spend $100-120 for a fragile shirt made of 1/2 merino wool from a company that makes their products in India from New Zealand wool.

If you care about the places you use these products in (nature), buy local merino wool.

This is a very comfortable. versatile, good looking top which I can wear around town at casual restaurants and bars on chilly nights. I am looking forward to wearing it hiking and camping this fall. I don’t have enough experience with it to say how good it is in cold and damp weather but my hunch is that it will be very good in these conditions.

I usually wear a large but had to get an extra large. I am glad that I bought it at the store so I could try on the different sizes. It’s the only extra large piece of clothing that I own. Perhaps they are telling me that I should lose some weight.

I have a variety of bike shirts. For most body-conforming shirts, I need to get an XXL. If it’s a generously cut shirt, I can get away with an XL. The fit is loose, but it’s perfect for a hot day! Polyester-based bike garments, i.

e. , most of them, while wicking some sweat away, still feel warm, don’t wick away ALL of the sweat, and start to stink of, well, petroleum. Not so with wool garments. THIS shirt is part-wool, part-tencil, the latter is made from bamboo.

A pure wool garment would cost a lot more than this, for sure, but there’s enough wool in it to let sweat pass through, plus there’s no residual smell from sweating into it. This garment remains cool and really comfortable in warm weather.

And the tencil gives the material a lot of soft drape. Smartwool also makes wool/polyester garments, but they’ll pose the issue of having some of that smell, as polyester derives from petroleum, whereas tencil, as I mentioned above, is from bamboo.

I use a gravel bike, so any extra length is good for me as I’m bending over the bike. I suppose if I were sitting more or less straight up, I might feel differently about the length. Again, this is not a body-hugging design.

In contrast, this shirt REALLY breathes. I’d like to see them do this shirt with a rear pocket or two, but I tend to wear shorts with built-in pockets, so not the biggest deal.

I have one of these tops from a few years ago and love it so much I thought I’d buy another. Unfortunately the cut of the neckline has changed — it is an odd scoopey shape that is really unattractive.

The shirt itself is a nice lightweight wool, I got the green color. Am totally not a fan of the big watermark placed on the front of the garment — the other new thing. I wear these tops alone for spring and early summer hiking, and under another a T-shirt for wintertime casual wear.

I like the shaped side seams that make it skim the body and light weight and the fact that the top is so very versatile. Folds up to nothing to go into my pack. It has a nice drape and you can’t see through it — so, lightweight but not too thin.

I love the faint smell of wool — it always smells fresh to me. When I wear this top under another shirt I like the neck to show evenly under whatever else I’m wearing — like a ringer T. Because of this new very odd cut of the neck, the shoulders show through but not the center of the neck.

I end up looking like a bag lady. I think the top would be so much more beautiful with a lovely and more symmetrical crew neck. If the neck were symmetrical, I would rate five stars because otherwise it is lovely.

The first I noticed about this shirt was the feel – oh so soft. It’s lightweight and amazingly silky feeling on my arms. The addition of Lyocell (I learned was originally and also known as Tencel) probably has a big part in that.

I’ve owned a lot of Smartwool and this is easily the softest of them all. Yes even softer then my old Sport 150 shirts. Don’t let that make you think it’s fragile at all because it still somehow a solid feeling shirt.

So far its been perfect when used for Yoga and general lounging and house work. Its performance to date means it’s also already earned a spot on my bikepacking and mountain biking gear list for this spring.

Regarding fit, although great for the aforementioned activities I did find the arms and body of the “athletic fit” to be a bit loose for use as a base-layer so I will be looking for this in my usually preferred “slim fit”.

The arms were also a bit long on me although that meant they didn’t stretch up during big stretching movements. So the length is both a pro or a con depending on your primary use. For everyday use I’d like them a tad shorter.

As to be expected the care and washing of this shirt is up to the Smartwool standards. Whether I washed it in a machine and tossed it in the dryer or by hand in the sink and hung to dry it always comes out looking, and feeling, great.

With some more fun and bright colour options and I can see myself owning a lot of these. #SmartwoolLove.

I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend with the matching bottoms. The fit is great and it is super soft. He hasn?t tried them out on the slopes yet. I bought the top because the description on backcountry originally said 100% Merino wool.

It is 0% merino wool. They have since changed the description in tech specs.

a little bit tight and not warm enough for cold east coast but I really enjoy it on the warmer temperature aka spring time (above -5C). I also wear a shell jacket so I guess wearing it with my insulated jacket will be more than enough for most part of the winter.

I wear it under a windbreaker for nordic skiing. It is warm but not too warm and breathable. Fits me perfect for a lot of activities…

Love this base layer top! I got the Hibiscus Pink Oversized print. Nice looking. Great material. Super soft. Made well. No itchy tags. Comfortable cut. Best base layer top I own. I think I’m going to need more.

I want to wear it when I’m not snowboarding too. I got the small and the fit is just right all over. Not too loose and not too snug. I’m 5’2″, 34B, around 125lbs, broad shoulders. I wear a Medium in Burton Jackets.

Literally obsessed with how comfy the top is and it matches with my tights and jacket. Love the thumb holes too. Will be buying more I bought a large for a loser (great for layering) but will probably buy medium in different color.

Also it keeps you warm on the coldest days.

This is my 3rd HH baselayer & I am now officially hooked. HH tops I have purchased are consistently high quality despite the workout & many washing I give them & this one is no exception. It is deceptively soft, though actually quite sturdy & well made & the stitching is very tight ( waist hem, cuffs, neck, zipper.

) It is also surprisingly warm for such a light fabric. I wear it alone under a ski bib & jacket & it is perfect for hiking, rock climbing, snowshoeing, but also perfect for chilly mornings around the house.

The fabric is ridiculously comfortable with zero scratchiness (love the honeycomb moisture wicking effect on the underside. ) The zipper has an inner fabric covering so you don’t even feel it, which is great if you are sleeping in it & the high collar is soft, not stiff, but stays up when you zip it.

This top is functional, feels fab, fits snug but still gives you complete flexibility. I chose the ice blue w/ geometric pattern ( “baby trooper star pixel” ) which is really lovely for a base layer so why hide it! 5’5″, 116lbs, chose the Large.

I have base layers from most major players: Arcteryx, Icebreaker, Patagonia. They each have their uses, but the HH Lifa is my go to, all around, hands down fav. I?ve been wearing them for years hiking and backpacking (and even at the gym) in all seasons.

Nothing works better for keeping my skin dry while exerting. They are the quintessential wicking base layer. Adjust for temp/season with your overlayer(s) and get out there. The fit, at least for me, is true next to skin.

That and the material is what makes them so effective. But it may not be the most flattering of looks. I know. But so what. They just work! Follow the washing Inst. and they will last a long time. Enjoy.

I am really disappointed with this product. I have owned previous model mid-weigh lifa-merino for over 10 years now. The same size now runs very small – over 2 inches shorter in the sleeves. The neck is very tight – almost can’t stand it fully zipped up.

The back side used to be longer than the front – now they are the sale length – and shorter. The end of the sleeves used to be finished with more durable 100% polyester cuffs – this feature has gone.

And there is no inventory of bigger size to exchange it for so I had to give it up to someone else as I can’t wear it.

I had high hopes for the thermal, looked good but even after the first wear it started to show signs of wear in terms of bobbling on the surface. This wear has continued, I wish I had spent more money and bought a Helly Hansen.

I bought the XL (usually a L) so that I could have that extra bit of length (Im 5 10). It was perfect; warm and comfortable. Washes well and dries quickly.

Great for layering! I’m 5’6 and 165 normally I wear M/L, but ordered an XL so I could wear it over my bibs. I could have gotten away with the large but don’t mind the extra room for other base layers under it.

It’s nice and warm I will wear it under a vest in about 25/30 degrees when we go out to dinner and won’t be cold when waking from the car to inside.

I’m extremely pleased with my new purchases. I am a Nana who traditionally does Christmas Eve “Jammies”, but now they are all adults, this gift has evolved into technical gear they can use all year long.

My only concern is-because these are Christmas gifts. is there a gift receipt I can have for each one so they can exchange if they choose to do so after Christmas?.

The top has a slimmer fit and plenty of length in the body, which I like. On the other hand, the collar is very loose, which I don’t think will trap as much heat as if it fit snugly against my neck. The sleeves do not have the annoying thumb holes, which I think is good, instead they have a loop of elastic sewn into the sleeve, which I think you could cut off if you wanted; it doesn’t seem to get in the way, so I plan on ignoring it.

I also tried an XL “Marmot Men’s Polartec° Baselayer °-Zip Jacket”, which is very nice, and it has a collar that is not as loose as the Burton top. It also has plenty of length in the body. The material of the Marmot top feels more delicate, so it may not be as durable.

I noticed that you can get the Smartwool Merino 250 top for about the same price, but I think the Burton top is probably easier to launder. I like the fit of the Burton top, so even though I don’t know about the collar, I may keep the top.

Still trying to decide.

I bought this for my daughter to use for resort skiing. She has used it a few times now and gives it a thumbs up. It has a good fit and is nice and long so it tucks in easily and stays tucked. I was hoping it would actually be a little heavier weight than it is, but on cold days she plans to wear another lightweight layer underneath.

I also feel this product is slightly overpriced otherwise I would give it 5 stars.

New material compare to the old version. Keep you dry but not as warm as expected. My girlfriend own the previous 2020 model and it’s a totally different product. No polar inside, feel like a cheap polyester jersey.

I plan on ordering a few more of these before next winter. My honey has been wearing these for years and believe it or not they’ve held up. When wearing blue jeans in the winter, these are a must. They are silky smooth and keep you toasty warm.

I bought several of these in different colors to work into my wardrobe and I am 100% satisfied with this purchase. I struggle to find shirts, particularly long-sleeve shirts, that fit this well since I’m on the taller side (long arms!).

They are amazingly 100% natural fiber high-quality wool but don’t shrink or ruin in a washer or dryer. They are super comfy and work well to regulate temperature. I live in western Washington and can wear these almost year-round since they are so light but still very warm and naturally water-repelling.

Perfect to layer up in super cold rain, or act as a standalone during cooler summer nights. I would recommend these to anyone in any climate since they are also very stylish with their sleek fit and natural color tones and don’t have any of those nasty plastic fibers everyone else is using.

Can not say enough good things. Our 7 and 9 year old ski in below zero temps all season and never complain! Interestingly I was recently fighting through COVID and found great comfort in my base layer gear.

During the feverish times it was not bad and during the chills I was warm. Certainly not what I thought I would be using this product for when I bought it but I am sure glad I had it. I am the guy who would wear as little as possible walking into my tree stand as I did not want to sweat and then try and sit all day eventually getting cold.

Not a problem with this gear. I will never buy another product other than Minus 33 for any of my outdoor activities. You will not regret buying anything from this company.

I live in New Hampshire and SCUBA dive year-round. As you can imagine things get chilly in the Winter and this shirt is, by far, the best base layer that I have found to date. I put this on at home (along with the bottoms from the same series) and, when at the dive site keep this on for the dive by adding dry suit undergarments and a dry suit over this base layer.

I am warm and comfortable during the dive, but the best part is that after the dive I remove the dry suit but keep this base layer on and just put street clothes over it and go find a cup of hot chocolate.

The base layer is heavyweight, fits well and is extremely comfortable both in and out of the water due to the flat seam construction and comfortable wool fabric.

I absolutely love this sweatshirt!! Excellent quality, perfect fit, and very comfortable. Plus, the sleeve thumb holes will make for perfect base layer under a jacket or soft shell. Highly recommend this sweatshirt!!.

I bought the plain black in a size L because it says it’s skin tight and I wanted a little room in it. I probably could have gone with a size M to have a skin tight fit. The L is a little roomy but not too big.

I’m usually a size 10 in tops. Otherwise very comfortable.

Nice lightweight baselayer. This top is quite long & I have a short torso so it was just a little long for me personally. Nice material & worked well while skiing.

After reviewing different types of base layers- wool synthetic, blend- I decided I wanted wool because of it’s wicking, warmth, and antimicrobial properties. I tried on a bunch of shirts at different weights to find which would be most comfortable- snug but not too tight, warm but not too hot, and something that wouldn’t be itchy as I have a bit of a wool allergy.

Smartwool socks have never bothered me, but rough wool sweaters are a no. I settled on this shirt for a few reasons: it fit right, it was soft and didn’t make me feel itchy, and it was that much cheaper than Smartwool or other brands.

I’ve used it for a couple months now and even when I get sweaty while hiking I don’t get itchy. And it’s the right amount of added warmth for winters in south central WI. I’ve never gotten too hot or too cold while hiking in ~20 degrees with wind chills lower.

So it works perfect for me!.

One of my favorite base layer tops, I’m 5’9” fluctuate between 148-155lbs lbs w/light muscle tone and got a medium. The sleeves are long enough for tall women. Great length through the torso too. Neckline is really comfortable.

Fabric is a soft and not itchy wool, it is wool though… so don’t expect it to be silky smooth. I wear this under a jacket snowboarding for 20-35° ish nights, I add a light fleece if it’s colder than that.

And wear just a shell over this if it’s a warmer day. Keeps me dry and pulls the sweat away from my body all day without getting the top stinky. I also like to just wear it around the house on chilly nights.

I’ve been buying icebreaker products a long time and this Tech zip I like even better than the oasis line. It’s a little thicker and the stretch on it is nice. Great for outdoor treks around town or on the trails.

I’m 5’9 and 170lbs and the large fit fine. This piece is ideal if you’re not doing high levels of physical activities outdoors. If that’s your plan buy a lower merino weight garment because this one will be too hot.

Would definitely buy the bottoms to complete the set. Highly recommend for any merino/wool clothing enthusiasts out there.

This along with the ski blaze layer leggings is literally the best. I feel absolutely zero cold in it, even in 2-3 degrees outside with a lot of wind. It’s one of the best buys I have made. The material is so soft yet fitting.

Movement is free as well. Love it!.

I bought these with the matching leggings and bought the children’s set for my son for a trip to Sweden and they were amazing! We went skiing in -17 degrees Celsius and they kept us warm and dry and I love the snuggly fleece Lining.

Would buy again and no way would I spend more anywhere else.

This is a great product for the money. It’s a bargain. Don’t waste money on more expensive options. This keeps you warm and is comfortable to wear either on its own or under other garments

Full disclosure- I generally love Craft. Their products have lasted over a decade for my husband which is why I went ahead and started getting my own pieces for running. Background: I run 35-40 miles per week year round in MN, entirely outdoors, including -15⁰ windchill.

I love this midlayer for coldest days with a base layer under it and a windproof layer over it. I also wear it on its own for runs in the 20-35⁰ range. I run warm, pun intended, and think 25⁰ is ideal running weather, so others may pull it out in warmer temps than me.

It is not skintight like a base layer since it is meant for layering. Washes up well, thumb hole is nice, accent areas are flattering. My one “ehhh” is the pocket size. It absolutely will not fit a standard cell phone.

If you run with a flip belt or similar you will be fine, but if you’re hoping to stash your phone in the pocket, it isn’t going to happen. The pocket is more suited for gels, keys, etc.

I usually buy size small but went up a size just to have a looser fit. I wear a tighter base layer underneath it. I wear a vest on top of this midlayer shirt. This was perfect on a windy, cold day temps.

~22 F. It was warm and breathable. I didn’t have any moisture buildup. I like that it is brushed inside and feels cozy. And I love the color I bought which is a peachy-orange color.
