20 Best Thermometer For Greenhouse (2022 Updated)

I received this exact item a few years back in a safe sleep class for infants which keyed in on SIDS when I had my 1st baby. I loved it so much so I searched for another and was thrilled when I it. I tested the accuracy by putting them side by side and to my surprise the readings are different.

I even put new batteries in the old one to see if that made the difference but it didn’t. It ranges between 2-4 degrees difference between the two of them. I dont know whether mine is faulty or what but it is very odd.

I really like this. I like that it displays temperature, but also on humidity so I can control mold. I also like that it shows you the most recent high and low readings for each. A nice little gadget.

(P. S. You’ll need a AA battery. ) (Developers, maybe think about giving it a little kick stand so it doesn’t have to attach by magnet to the refrigerator and maybe think about making it a little easier to read in low light?) Thanks for this great product at a good price.

I wanted this for the winter with outside temps really cold in the teens and even going down around zero, I need this to keep tabs on the outside temp to know when I will need to run water to keep pipes from freezing.

The station works best at eye level or slightly below for brightness of backlight. I prop mine so its not leaning back but standing straight up. The clock, date , inside and outside are all different colors and bright.

, plus the numbers are large expecially the outside numbers which interest me most. Also this thing is accurate hitting right on the local intellicast readings exact or maybe off 1 degree. But it does only stay lit when you plug in the adaptor, if you use just batteries then you hit the light button and its on for 10 sec.

The station sits at one angle only and I would like to see them make it adjustable.

Six months into use the indoor station is unable synchronize with the outdoor sensor. Nothing works, including re-setting the unit. On LaCrosse website they reccomend to install ” Brand Name Alkaline battery dated at least 7 years in advance (super, ultra, max, heavy duty and rechargeable types should be avoided).

” Considering that the batteries do not last more than a couple of months, and uses 2 AA for the sensor and another 2 AA for the indoor unit, this does not make sense. Why the design a unit that cannot use regular rechargeable batteries is beyond me! On top of that the LCD display of the indoor station is barely visible when using battery power alone, so but default it requires that you keep it plug (near an outlet) all the time.

If these two issues are fixed this could be a nice unit.

Purchased for little old lady next door. She’s thrilled. She says she has no problem seeing the numbers. And that it gives her just the facts!

For many years I’ve enjoyed traveling in a Recreational Vehicle. My preference was “Boondocking”, which is enjoying the outdoors without using “hookups” to water, electric, & instead, utilizing solar/wind power.

As I had an RV, it used electric, battery, & propane for refrigerator, etc. As the refrigerator responds to ambient temps, it was always a struggle to keep food @ a safe temp; & having to open the fridge door to look @ the thermometer was frustrating as the appliance was doing its best, & had to work even harder to get back to safe temp from the door being open.

Soooo. I utilized the indoor/outdoor thermometers. ; ” Outside” stayed in the fridge, ” Inside” stayed visible for me to monitor ! As I live in a mobile home I decided to do the same thing I did when “on the road”.

Used one for 6 years without issue until a bird knocked my outdoor sending unit down onto the concrete and it apparently got cracked and wet inside. We have used this unit without issue and changed batteries maybe once a year inside and outside, 4AAA batteries.

The unit is accurate, and small. We have the inside receiver mounted just over our thermostat so that we can glance at both the outdoor and indoor temps,and verify the thermostat is working correctly.

It’s been a nice way to judge temps without digging up a website or checking on the phone. I am replacing it today with a new one that I would also expect to own for another 6+ years.

The external transmitter module failed (mind is outdoors) but it seems you can’t buy those separately and have to replace the entire setup. Not the best approach to recycling. Otherwise these two units do just what they’re supposed to, accurately, with great battery life.

I wanted this thermometer in order to read it, from the house, in the garden. The digits are large enough to read clearly 20ft away. The title says indoor outdoor. However, on the packet it clearly says not waterproof and don’t put in direct sunlight.

However, the battery compartment, grilled sensor area, and general construction, l think, could cope with light wind/rain. Full gale, doubtful. Max and Min temperature readings work fine. Comes with battery.

I always use that kind of thermometer . I have them in different areas of garden and in greenhouse so I know which is the best place to put individual plants. My husband,who sadly died, chose them.

I have two of these and am using one in my greenhouse where it has proved invaluable. Great quality. My seedlings are very happily growing in their temperature controlled environment. The other one is being used in the house to monitor the efficiency of the heating system.

Excellent product. Super clear and easy to use. I bought one initially for the conservatory where we have some mildly exotic plants that don’t like cold such as orchids, a banana tree and venus fly traps, but it’s such a good thermometer I bought two more for the house.

It seemed to be functioning OIK to begin with but is unable to cope with high temperatures – the max and min readings now just show HHh and LLl respectively. And when the gadget is exposed to direct sun the screen goes black.

Very accurate. Looks good. Shows highest temp and lowest . Easy to use. Large numbers easy to read. Excellent quality.

This item is just what I was looking for. Not too complicated and easy to set up. It takes a bit of time for the outside sensor to adjust to the current temperature but when it does, it seems to be very accurate.

I checked it against several other thermometers and both the temperature and humidity readings were within 2% of them. Bluetooth distance seems good also.

Tried 2 different sensors, each off 15% – 20%. Ran tests/reset as prescribed with no results. Compared with weather station and additional outside source, and placed in different locations. The AcuRite sensors were never even close to other data sources.

I was pleased to be able to buy a Acu-Rite wireless instrument that indicates both temperature and humidity at such a reasonable price. And it seems to work very well. Its only drawbacks are minor and will not matter to everyone.

First, the display unit is smaller than others I have had (approx. 2. 5 x 3 inches) and since it is displaying two parameters vice one, the numbers (approx. 6 inch) may be considered small by some. Second, as with many similar displays, when not viewed nearly straight-on, the numbers can appear faint.

I use this inside my patio fridge to remotely monitor the temperature of my beer. It works great. Just put the sensor inside along with the beverages. It allows you to know exactly how cold your beverage will be.

I use it also for my camper fridge for the same purpose.

great little thermometer. like the 24 hour high and low – lucky my old outdoor transmitter worked with this new receiver! simple and basic – all I need

I bought this thermometer about 3 weeks ago. At first it worked fine and I was happy with it. But now it only works some times, and the other times all I get is lines where the temperature should be.

During gutter repair, our 2nd story Taylor window thermometer disappeared. We were delighted to find that pretty much the same thing was still available. Didn’t even have to replace the old bracket, great news for an older person who can’t get up there anymore.

Replacement scale is brighter than the original but the thermometer element itself is very sensitive to angle of view. Used to be that we could check the temperature at a glance. Now we have to be sure we’re looking from exactly the right direction.

Didn’t notice that problem with the old one.

The cold (minimum) side reads 4 degrees lower than the hot (maximum) side when they should read the same. This may be caused by some small dark particles (iron float?) that are stuck at the bottom of the cold side, displacing the fluid.

I can make it work by adding 4 degrees to the cold side reading but this is a nuisance. Nevertheless, this mechanical max-min thermometer has the advantage of not automatically resetting and not needing batteries.

I use it in my garage for comparing actual inside vs. predicted outside nighttime lows so I can prepare for freezing temperatures that may damage the plumbing in my garaged RV when I am too lazy to winterize it.

use this in my greenhouse to monitor temps. I have used Taylor products for years, but this unit is not very good. It feels very cheaply made. compared to their other model, which is hard to find. It was impossible to reset the little temp indicators, so I returned it and Taylor did promptly sent a replacement.

I just received it, and will have to see if it’s any better. (also Taylors customer service is Awesome. I’ll give that 5 stars!) This is a much better item, if you can find it. Taylor 5458 Mercury-Filled Thermometer w/ Magnet Reset.

I just received this device and started using it a few days ago, so I cannot opine on the longer term reliability. I am about to buy another sensor so I can have a few points of measurement. I am using this device to monitor the temp and humidity of our conditioned crawl space of our house.

So far I have the first sensor located in the farthest spot in the crawl space from the display (2500 sq ft crawl space) and everything seems to be working communications wise. When I received the unit, I charged the sensor and powered it on to sit right next to the display to see if there was any difference between what the display was recording and the sensor.

It appears the remote sensor reports a few degrees F higher than the display pretty consistently. The RH was within 1% most of the time and I suspect the difference in reported RH was likely due to the temperature reporting error of the remote sensor (the display unit jives exactly with our Honeywell home thermostat in the interior living space for both Temp and RH).

I will update my impressions after I have had some time to gauge it’s longer term reliability, but for now, this device seems to be the answer to my needs of monitoring ambient condition in my crawl space (critical to us as we had some mold issues early on until we got out conditioned crawl space systems dialed).

Update to above review: I ordered two more TX4 sensors, so I could have a total of three monitoring our crawl space temp and humidity. The two new sensors report temps and humidity almost identical to the display unit (< 1 degree temp and never more than 1% humidity difference to our Honeywell home thermostat).

Very pleased so far with this product.

I have the remote sensor on the side of the building under a deck, and the monitor unit on my fridge – I used to put a previous one on a shelf above the remote because it didn’t like the further distance, but this one allowed me to use the magnet feature and go to the fridge.

The new one’s easy to read and light up, and gives humidity as well as temperature inside and out. The only problem is the manual, and I had to get replacement remotes twice (free) and a replacement whole unit once (because I forgot where I’d bought the first) before I made it work.

The manual tells you how to install it, and later tells you to fully charge the remote first. I didn’t read that far, and the first remote died in about 15 months, and couldn’t be re-charged. When I bought a new one, I found that section of the manual and couldn’t find a picture or description of how to get the included charger cord attached to the the remote.

There is a shaped rubber pad on top of the insert chamber, which has a metal strip in it that bounced out as I pried the pad off. What I should have done was simply lift up the part of the pad that covered the chamber, and inserted the cord directly.

When I pulled off the whole thing, there was no way to get the metal strip back in place and the cord to stay in. I have asked that they give clearer directions – and before they say how to set up the whole installation.

The thermometer itself is tterrific.

I was impressed with how well this little champ stays connected with the remote sensor all the way through my stucco walls. The sensor is about 50′ away in the arroyo behind our casa. I still give it 5 stars, because I am generally so happy with it.

The only negative is that it can be hard to read in low-light from across the room. It does have a back-light feature, but as best I can figure – you have to touch the little light button at the bottom of the unit to ignite the back-light and it turns itself off after a minute or so.

Also of interest to some people: the indoor unit utilizes batteries. The outdoor sensor has a rechargeable lithium battery and requires a charge inside, while plugged into a standard phone charger with the included USB cable.

Moral of this story: place the outdoor sensor in a spot it is relatively easy to retrieve for your periodic recharging efforts. It’s been running for several days now with no problems. It will be interesting to see how many weeks/ months I manage to get before I have to bring it in for a re-charge.

We have several of these in my workplace to record temp and humidity during testing/validation. These units are under yearly calibration check and frequently come back Out of tolerance. Probably OK for a home/office ballpark idea but not for any official readings.

BIG easily readable numbers that gauge indoor temperature and humidity. Exactly what we were looking for. Something reliable and simple vs all the other gauges which we neither wanted nor required.

Reliable product. Works in all weather. Water, snow and ice -proof. Tells accurate temperatures consistently. ( I have used other manufacturers’ thermometers and they do not stack up to Taylor thermometers.

It is simple and has the max and min temperatures of the day. That’s all I really wanted, and most of the more expensive thermometers and weather stations make you work to get the max and min temperatures.

Note, though, the max and min reset 24 hours from when you power the unit up, so choose wisely when you want the reset to occur each day!.

Great product except the high and low temps reset every 24 hrs. I was looking for a product that keeps the high and lows for a garage and vacation home.

Pay attention to the reviews! The information provided about the batteries is incorrect. It requires two AA batteries and two AAA batteries, not four AA batteries. I’m glad I checked the reviews before mine arrived in the mail.

It seems to be working nicely. It’s nice to be able to see the temperature digitally because my thermostat looks like it’s from the first age of thermostats and I couldn’t tell what the temperature was.

Purchased LA Crosse expecting more quality Dislike Outdoor sensor and indoor sensor/display temperature readings very in accuracy even when both sensors are sitting side by side 2 inches apart. Temps reading very from 1.

0 degree to 0. 1 degrees. Right now as I type it has varied 0. 6 to 0. 7 and later, not the accuracy I expected from La Crosse. Instructions say it clears its high/low reading every 24 hours. Like as published 2 year battery life if it happens.

I purchased this La Crosse wireless thermometer, because the outside transmitter on my old thermometer stopped working. This unit was very easy to set up, and I found that both the inside and outside temperatures were being displayed accurately.

I am happy with my purchase, and would recommend this unit to anyone looking for a basic temperature and time display.

Accurate within +/- 2 degrees. Does not fall off the window; far better seal than the thermometers with a suction cup. Fairly easy to read.

This is a great thermometer – we had one previously but after almost 15 years it finally started failing. I don’t remember what we paid for the original one, but this one being less than $20 means it only cost $1 a year! Highly recommend this product!.

Great thermometer! Easily fitted to my back door so I can tell the temperature at a glance thanks to thelarge figures. So happy that it does not :”cook” and give false readings because of the greenhouse erffect of some pastic fronted thermometers.

This is an attractive design with a satisfyingly large, easy to read face. It was very easy to hang on the wall alongside my front porch, so that we now know what to expect before we leave the house.

There is a calibration dial to adjust to be sure calibration is correct, before you hang it. Perfect!.

I have had it outdoors from early spring on, first wall-mounted. Seemed to be close to accurate over the summer, but come chilly fall, no; moved it away from the wall in case heat radiating from house gave erroneous high readings.

Finally set it vertically against a cinder block 4 feet from house. With light freezes overnight the coldest It would read was 42 degrees. JUNK!.

I like the thermometer. Bought it for something easier to read. It took some fiddling around to get it synchronized to the mercury thermometer but now it seems to be reading accurately.

It’s okay to monitor indoor and outdoor simultaneously but it does not record the min or max temperature automatically you have to push the button manually. So very big issue. Also it supposed to record indoor and outdoor humidity but there is only one readout and it doesn’t tell you if the reading is for the indoor or outdoor.

Low cost, simple and easy to use – remote probe enables you to see the otuside temperature and compare it with the interior temp and relative humidity easily. Open a window, lay the probe outside and close the window.

(Make sure the wire is not lying on the metal lock for the window or it can be cut through. ).

This works well for seeing temperatures inside and out but the digital screen is not very clear. You have to move it to see the numbers clearly.

Easy to read well made what more to say a good product.

I am satisfied with the product, too bad to be forced to put it on “reset” every day …

Das Kabel war schon nach einigen Tagen durch das ffnen der Terrassentr abgerissen !!! Ich habe mir inzwischen ein Thermometer mit Funkverbindung zu einem anderen Aussenthermometer gekauft. So etwas ist fr mich deutlich angenehmer.

Ich sehe schon auf dem Nachttisch die Auentemperatur. Fr eine Rcksendung des TFA Drostmann war mir bei dem geringen Preis der Aufwand zu hoch.
