19 Best Thermometers For Dogs (2022 Updated)

I love this thermometer. I’ve bought five or six different thermometers over the last few years and they’ve all been mediocre to terrible at best. Most of them died quickly, were really slow, or just plain inaccurate and unusable.

This thermometer blows all of those away. It’s so fast and easy to use, and very accurate. I can get an accurate reading in a matter of seconds, just poke it in and bam. I don’t have to poke around several times or try to finagle the tip to get it to read properly.

This thing just works. Really happy with it.

So far it seems to do the job of telling us if the food is done and prevents us from over cooking (or undercooking). It takes a little practice to learn how deep (but not too deep) to insert the thermometer to get the correct temp on the different foods.

We really like the simplicity and even though its made of plastic it seems to be rugged enough that we bought a second one for the son and his wife. The price is right for what you use it for and the accuracy seems very good when we compared it to another all metal one we had.

Works as described. I’ve had no issues with my digital thermometer and have owned it for nearly a year now. Never had to change batteries, as of yet.

This has changed the way I grill and smoke forever. This may be the most important device for cooking other than the device you cook with. I have had the meat thermometer for over a month and I have used it for grilling steaks, chops, and chicken.

I have also used it for smoking pork butt, pork loin, and a prime rib and it has taken all the guess work out of cooking. Results in the quality of food have been phenomenal thanks to this little device.

It is worth every penny.

6 probes are just great!..I used 2 probe for the smoker temp and meat temp. I used 1 probe for my propane grill .I used 1 probe for my refrigerator temp and one probe for my hot tub temp.. so awesome

Use it all the time. I have used a lot of temperature checking equipment.. this is one of the better ones. Very reliable and the temp is very accurate.

I purchased one, and after using purchased another to give to a friend. It has a bunch of presets as well as custom times and temps. This reaches farther than my more expensive wireless meat probes.

As far as I know it’s good. It was a gift and hasn’t been used yet. Always quick shipping though on all products from Pit Boss.

You cant go wrong with Robinair. This is my second Robinair thermometer. The one I bought in 1985 (no kidding) was still accurate, clear and easy to read, but it has disappeared and presumed MIA. The only thing limiting the life span of this one is my lifespan, as its unreasonably optimistic to expect that Ill live another 35 years.

So go ahead. Get the good one with a good brand name, its not like its expensive. :).

The thermometer is off by 8 degrees. I verified this against 2 other thermometers that are extremely accurate (and expensive), also, against a laser thermometer. All 3 test thermometers were within 1/2 degree of each other.

Total waste of money. I’m updating my rating due to the following: I don’t know why the manufacturer does not state that the thermometer can be adjusted. Behind the dial there is a hexagonal nut. I grabbed the nut with locking pliers and rotated the dial slightly.

It’s not overly easy (the dial is affixed pretty well) but I managed to bring the thermometer right into alignment. The scale is small but I have it so it reads accurately now. I’m giving it 3 stars because I should not have to have gone through aligning the thermometer, that should have been done at the factory.

For determining a drop in temperature it will do ok. Ambient temperature is off by quite a few degrees.

Works great for livestock. I use this myself. It’s likely that the only reason this is classified as a livestock product is due to licensing and regulation costs are cheaper that way. These other reviewers are hilarious – seriously just read the description and you’ll see it’s explicitly for livestock and most farmers take livestock temp rectally because that’s easiest.

The thermometer is new and can be cleaned with isopropyl (if you can find it) so no reason you couldn’t use it on yourself in a pinch. Just have to be able to think for yourself.

The description says “large easy to read numbers”-far from it! Very fragile also. I tired of squinting so I reached into the tank to remove it and as I did I bumped it on the rim. It fractured at the point where the rocket-fin bottom attaches.

Dumped most of the tiny lead beads and as they were dropping to the bottom my fish tried to eat them. Had to get out the aquarium vacuum and remove a mess including a chard of thin glass. I bought one of the old-time metal thermometers that hangs and I can see it!.

Best thermometer. Stands up without issues (mine are in sand), no annoying suction cups that wont stick after a while. Visually much better than most thermometers that stick on the side. I have 7 tanks ranging sizes, all use this thermometer.

Its the only kind ill buy.

I was tired of the suction cup thermometers that just end up bobbing around the tank. I’ve also used the digital with probe and they have ended up swimming with the fishes. So finally I tried this one and have now bought them for all my tanks.

Stays in one spot and I feel better when I can monitor my tank temp with a visual as well as the heater. Perfect product!.

I have owned a couple smart thermometers in my life, and especially have owned more since this pandemic began. I already use the Withings scale, and it makes it so much better that this is the same brand and uses the same Health Mate app.

I love how this one feels and how easy it is to use. You just swipe it on a persons forehead and the temperature is read on the device itself in nice big white numbers. This device takes 2 AAA batteries via a magnetic compartment.

This device is also FDA CE cleared. I find this thermometer to be the most accurate one that I have ever owned. The price is a bit high at $75 but I feel like it’s 100% worth it for a good quality product that you know is going to work every single time you want to use it.

I have been a Withings customer and fan for almost 3 years. My thermo worked beautifully until I changed location and WiFi network. As I tried to pair it with my phone on the same WiFi network, it went into “factory setting”, then a red light and a white screen then it died! There’s no sign of life in it.

There’s no number to call for assistance. I sent an email to the support group but there wasn’t even any acknowledgment! I have 2 scales at different locations and their blood pressure monitor in addition to this new piece of junk.

This is an expensive investment without any support of any kind. I will gradually change brands away from nice equipment when it works but when it doesn’t you’ve thrown a chunk of money away.

I got this as a gift some time ago. Just saw some reviews and thought I should write one. I based my 5 stars on overall performance, results particularly. My final cook has been excellent! Meat is spot on when it comes to temperature at meal time.

Monitoring is easy and can be done at significant distances. I use it both in my Traeger, and wood burning stove, as well as my oven. I like the way it measures ambient temperature because it gives me an indication of how my fire or smoke is burning from afar so I am alerted if adjustments to the burn are necessary.

Meat temperature while cooking is pretty accurate. The time to finish is pretty close but you have to be sure your thermometer is properly placed in the thickest part of the meat and fully inserted. One drawback is that if on an open flame grill the probe may overheat if close to the flame.

Nothing is a substitute for experience and judgement. You have to use this a few times to get a feel for it and be confident in its use but it saves me a lot of trouble and as I said the results have been outstanding.

Bought hoping it would arrive in time for Thanksgiving. Gave it a trial run on steaks the day before and had I believed it we’d have been eating raw steak. Figured I’d done something way wrong but not sure what??? Tried it again on 18 lb turkey the next day.

After it did some initial calibration it estimated it would be done in 1-1/2 hours for what I was figuring would be 4 hrs @ 300. It was interesting watching it as it recalculated throughout the cooking cycle as I tried to get the bird to finish at our meal time.

The ambient temp displayed in the app throughout was 30 or more degrees cooler than temp shown on the treagers displays for whatever that’s worth. Used my current temp probe on the other breast while scratching my head wondering what was going on, the Meater was showing 10 degrees warmer than the TempPro.

For some reason I chose to take it off when the Meater said it was done. Smelled great looked great but when I started to carve it it wasn’t ready. Had to scramble to figure out how I was gonna salvage the meal.

Coulda done without that stress and will be sending it back if I can.

I bought this item since I didnt have an internal probe. First used it for testing and found that I was losing signal, then figure out I needed the base on the Traeger, after that, this thing has been flawless.

Anyone who gives this bad reviews really doesnt know how to use it. Yes it looses signal on a brisket wrap, I just took it out and reinserted after I wrapped the brisket. come on people, this is not that hard, think before you cook.

This device works very well. The mobile app, which has terrible reviews for some reason, worked for me just fine! You sick in your thermometer, go to the mobile app, set the meat you’re cooking and wait for the annoyingly loud beep.

No seriously! I was on a phone call with my earbuds in, and the beeping was blasting through my skull. I had to unlock my phone, go to the app, and tell it to stop. Shutting off the thermometer did not work! Caveat EmptorThat little hiccup aside, I like this thermometer.

Granted, it’s the first one I’ve ever owned. I’ve always used the digital sticks you can’t leave in the meat and I guess when things are ready. Having something that tells you right away is very awesome.

My biggest complaint however, is I don’t seem to be able to set my own temperature. What if I just want to stick the thermometer in the grill and have it tell me when I hit a temp? Like I’m about to smoke meats and I need the fire to die down a little before I hit the grill.

Well, I just have to monitor it. What if I want my meat to come off the grill a little early and rest up to the right temp? Doesn’t seem to be a way to do it. So yes, big step up from a stick thermometer, but I’m sure there’s better models out there to be had.

However, for the price and ease of use, I think it’s a good purchase.

This thermometer is amazing. With 4 thermometers you can keep an eye on every type of meat you are cooking and the grill temperature as well. I have a 22 Weber grill and I’ve smoked 3 briskets, a few tri tips and a pork butt using the thermometer.

The app needs a little work I think but it’s easy to set an alarm for a specific temperature or if the temperature goes above or below a specific temperature. You can create your own profiles for temperature.

The alarm on the device itself is pretty loud. i have to mute it at night when smoking. It also has a backlight on the device itself if you don’t have access to the app. The only knock I have on the app is that you cannot multi-task.

If you switch to another app for me it losed connection sometimes and the temperature graph gets restarted on when you got reconnected. Wish there was a way to save your history and graphs. Overall great product and would recommend to anyone.

I had read good reviews so I gave this a try. Today I smoked 2-6lb whole chickens and a 3 lb pork tenderloin. Used hickory pellets (whole tube lasts approx 4. 5 hrs). Seasoned with olive oil and 4 Rivers All Purpose rub.

Pork loin had mustard for the binder and 4 Rivers All Purpose rub (Florida based company). The hickory pellets in the tube made the difference. 5. 5-6 hrs later the chicken was super moist and had the perfect smokiness flavor which I had not been able to acquire from my Master-built Sportsman smoker previously.

It did a fantastic job for the first time of use and I will sing its praises. I can’t say about its longevity but if it dies definitively be getting another. Happy smoking!!!.

I’m kicking myself for not buying this sooner. I bought this with the 700D4 (which includes two onboard probes), but the wireless functionality can’t be beat. My first smoke with the grill and the wireless thermometer was flawless.

I smoked two briskets and two chickens and was able to achieve a level perfection that I never had before. all food was juicy and flavorful. the best part was I was able to socialize with my friends that were over and didn’t have to worry about checking the temp.

I was in the kitchen, front yard, backyard all around the house and when the food reached the desired temp, I was alerted on my phone. I love the fact that I can select the option to time the food or be alerted when a certain temp is reached.

Aside from selecting from premade cooking options, you can also create a custom setting. Worth every penny and I wish I had bought this sooner.

My wireless thermometer worked awesome the few times I used it. When I went to use 2 months ago one of the probs would not work. I ordered 4 new one to have on hand. Today I was smoking some leg quarters and the base started beeping and flashing.

I replaced the batteries thinking that was what the problem was. New batteries did not fix it. It is now dead, sometimes it comes on but still does not work. So with that said, when it works it is awesome, for this reason is why I did not rate any higher.

Versatile, accurate, and reliable! I’m new to using a pellet grill/smoker, which has its advantages to traditional grilling. Since I have taken to longer, slower cooks, a good thermometer was a necessity.

With its 6 probes, accurate readings, and long Bluetooth connectivity, all of my cooks have been right on! Do t hesitate! This is the one to get!.

Has both Celsius and Fahrenheit scales (opposite sides of the temp label). So often times when looking at the temperature the side facing you is Celsius not a big deal for me as I use Celsius at work but it annoys my wife as she is not familiar with that scale.

The temperature spread on most of these is 2F but this one is 4F meaning you rarely get a “floater” as the temperature changes. Quality is about the best you can find now days but not as good as the one that was broken in our move.

I bought this product and I perhaps had loftier goals than I should have. It’s a very nice looking piece and it works fine. I intended for my 6th grade students to be as excited about it as I was, but they just weren’t.

I taught them how to use it, and there was excitement for about two days. After that, interest waned. It still makes a nice conversation piece in the classroom, but it was a little expensive for just being a conversation piece.

To be able to swim in extreme cold water temperatures you need to know the exact temperature so that you know how long you can stay in the water for. This thermometer is accurate, easy to use, light weight and most of all.

I bought this product because i was told that it was a fast thermometer. I find it similar to the delta track brand in terms of speed, and the delta track thermometers are more sturdy, water resistant and cheaper.

I would not buy it again.

Great quality! I use it to double-check my aquarium temperature. It is dead accurate.

The thermometer works well and was shipped really quickly. My only complaint, and maybe it’s just me, but I had a lot of difficulty getting the battery cover off and on to install the batteries at first.

I had to jimmy it open with a small screw driver the first time as it would not budge and the cover ended up scratched.

We are having issues with it. Just opened it yesterday and image is not appearing clearly. We will require a replacement. We replaced batteries and it says low and then it will cut off the numbers. I have pictures I can send you.

I bought 2 of this thermometer, fail to get the same reading nor do i get the accurate in any one. Have tried changing EMS, surfaces etc. it failed completely, Wanted to use it during covid times and bought it for the society of 600 apartments.

Residents raised questions on the thermal gun, it was embarassing. followed up with the vendor, only to hear unncessary excuses. I also tried to see various video to get the right reading. , The chinese ones are much better atleast i can get the right reading.

TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED in the instructions that came with the unit. The online users manual is WAY better. I switched it from the default C to F easily after reading the online PDF. Also, calibrated it for human skin (EMS setting of 0.

88) and turned off the laser so I can use it to check family and friends temperatures. (Low Grade ~100F temps for COVID-19) Later on. I will be using this a lot for BBQ and foods as I bought a closed restaurant and plan on making “Bomb” central Texas style BBQ.

This will really help get things right and become one of my FAV tools. This package of Polish Sausages are thawing in my fridge. Really nice to know how they are coming along temperature wise.

I decided to get an infrared thermometer. I looked at a few competitors, but deep inside I know nothing is better than Fluke. A great thing about Ebay is – I was able to find a ‘like new’ gadget at half the price.

I downloaded a manual from Fluke for free, which quickly taught me a few things about using the tool that would be difficult to learn on my own. From now on I have no doubt about my HVAC system temps, BBQ grill/smoker, etc.

I can instantly measure things I never even considered before.

This thermometer is great in terms of features. I bought it due to phone app integration and 4 probes, and the probes and physical unit seem to work great. I didn’t like the idea of strapping something to me to view something as simple as temp data when I’ve got a fully capable phone at all times.

Whelp, I’ve used it for 3 half-day pork shoulder smokes and each one was the same. The app is EXTREMELY poorly implemented for my Andriod Samsung Note 9. I’m hopeful that it will be updated and fixed, as again the physical unit seems to work great, but I will not hold my breath.

-The unit becomes disconnected constantly. I can remain seated 5 feet away, not using other bluetooth devices, line of site to the unit, and it will randomly disconnect. I saw that reported by other reviewers, and I wrote those complaints off thinking they hadn’t checked for background usage permissions and things of that nature.

Nothing makes a difference, it just disconnects whenever it pleases. -The app crashes pretty often. One of the smokes, if I turned my phone landscape while the app was open it crashed. I haven’t gotten through any cook without a few crashes.

-The app doesn’t actually LOG any of the temperature data. So when it crashes, or you become disconnected, kiss that data goodbye. I thought it would be fun to graph a bunch of smokes, record the ones we liked best with recipe/weight and look at statistics, see at what the cook looked like charted out on the best ones.

Its impossible, I’m lucky to ever see more than 30 minutes of data, even when I don’t leave the grill area. -The alerts would be great, if the unit stayed connected. The first time I thought I’d cut my little yard, but I constantly got bombarded with disconnect alerts.

A few times it looked like it was connected, even showing the bluetooth symbol on the unit, but the temps weren’t updating on the app. -You can’t even view all 4 temperatures without scrolling, you can see it in the pictures in this listing.

Come on guys, how terrible is that UI design! Can you imagine if on the physical unit you had put 3 temps on the front of the physical unit and one on the back? My screen is 6. 4″, surely I can view 4 temperatures.

And if you try to view the graphed data, what little you managed to capture prior to the last disconnect, the chart flashes at you as it receives data. So again, this is a SOFTWARE problem. They have a poorly coded and designed application, for what is likely a well functioning device.

My $10 no-name bluetooth headphones don’t disconnect. It can be fixed. If I could go back, I would have purchased something else, and I would not recommend this device to anyone else unless the app is fixed.

I’m still surprised these devices are bluetooth instead of wifi. Put it on my network, along with all my other smart devices, and let me communicate from any device I choose to pull the app up on at that moment.

Make the app cloud based with storage, make people pay subscription fees to keep more than X of data and access recipes or reviews on charcoal or discounts or whatever. I don’t care. Just make this thing functional so I don’t have to throw it away because I can’t rely on it.

**edit October 2020**The app has been updated and I’ve changed my review to 4 stars. No more crashes when I rotate my phone, and it retains its graph history now. Thank you devs for the fixes!I’ll add to the pile of reviews citing the terrible Android app.

But first, the hardware:The unit itself is actually great. Battery life is excellent, the display is easy to read (although the viewing angle is pretty narrow). Having 4 probes is great and allows flexibility to monitor multiple food items and/or a couple of different regions of the grill surface.

I accidentally left it out after my previous cook and it got rained on for an afternoon. Fortunately it survived without any issues. I don’t think I’d take a bath with it or anything, but it appears to be water “resistant”.

One problem with the probes is that they are so long that it is a bit of a challenge to arrange them on the grill surface so they don’t interfere with the lid closing. And the 2 brackets used to attach them between the grill grates aren’t designed properly, so the probes only fit loosely in the brackets and tend to slip out even under the weight of the cord.

So now, the app:Yeah, the app is still hot garbage as of this writing (July 2020). I haven’t had bluetooth disconnect issues as mentioned in so many reviews, so that’s good. But on my phone (LG V35 ThinQ) the app crashes constantly.

One trigger is to simply rotate my phone. Immediate crash as the display rotates. And it has found several other opportunities to crash without any provocation. When the app crashes, it loses all historical data so the handy graphs all reset, which pretty much renders them useless.

The high and low temps are a great feature, but it is very fiddly to set them precisely. The internal temp can only be set to some presets for the various meat types (med rare, med, med well, etc). That’s good, except for things like pork shoulder where the target temp is much higher than any of the presets.

The app has potential, and I can only hope that the developers are still working towards perfecting it. As it stands now, it’s too buggy to be relied upon. And since the app is a lot of the appeal of this model, I’ve gotta knock off stars for the poor performance of the app even though the thermometer itself is solid.

TLDR; Solid Thermometer, would recommend. Detailed review below. Tip:Make sure you change your app permissions to allow the ThermoPro app to run in background, and make sure if you are in the habit of killing all of your apps you don’t kill the ThermoPro app while cooking.

My Review:One cook so far, a turkey as you can see in my pictures, and it was for my future in laws, so this was a make or brake for me with this thermometer. So far I am very happy. Thermometer is accurate, 4 probes allowed me to monitor the front and back on my smoker, and the breast and thigh individually.

Adding custom profiles is super easy and is something that I didnt see exclusively advertised, since I was traveling with this turkey I wanted to be able to monitor the cook, the smoker, and the temp range while wrapped in the cooler to make sure I stayed safe on temps while driving.

I was able to do all of that without issue. The cord keepers are fantastic. If you are like me and would forget your thermometer outside after cooking because you passed out in a food coma, get the separate case, it makes you want to put it up.

Negatives so far:The port for the black probe on my main unit seems to be a bit loose and was getting wild “temp swings” until I settled it in and quit moving it. Not a big issue, but I was slightly disappointed.

My only other real complaint is that if you find a dead spot in your house, which I did in my recliner on the other side of the wall from the fridge, you lose your cook data when the app disconnects.

I would love to see this changed in the app. Adding a feature like “This Cook” that stored your temp data until you manually clear it regardless of app disconnect would be awesome. The idea I see is not something that is stored all the time regardless of app connectivity but just storing while you are connected, its something that could be changed in the app without changing the hardware.

purchased this in place of a previous one I purchased at staples. the other one had no brand. The previous one seemed to be spot on with reading temperatures anywhere on body. would never stray from reading.

This thermometer is weird. I can take a reading from the same spot on forehead and get wildly different readings. They are off by less than one degree, but that’s still weird. comparing this to the old thermometer, this one seemed to be higher by at least 0.

3 degrees, but then changes as you take more readings. I want to return this thing, but it’s a hassle and I used coupons. While 0. 3-0. 5 degree error rate is not high, but there should not be any error rate.

The instructions actually say it may be off from actual, and to take the higher of 3 readings. There is also a function to adjust all readings up or down by up to 5 degrees. So, the equipment is actually admitting a defect, since it gives you the ability to adjust the reading.

I would like to purchase the same old model with no name brand. that worked better. This one is just inaccurate. Sorry, it needs to go back to design lab.

This thermometer is the same brand my doctor’s office uses. Very accurate and simple to use. Slide bottom battery compartment door, do not try to flip the door upwards. Some are complaining about the difficulty of opening the battery’s compartment door.

Just slide it open with your thumb. Turns from green to yellow for a temperature of 99. Goes to orange for slight fever and red for high fever. Temperature also displays in the tri—colored display. Has 3 modes “body” “room” and “surface”.

I don’t know if it’s self calibrated but it doesn’t stay frozen at the same temperature. I run from 97. 2 to 98. 6 Fahrenheit. Would buy again.

Don’t use with rechargeable batteries. i have white rechargeable ones from Amazon and the battery that has the negative side facing up got stuck in there. i tried shaking it loose, using tweezers on the sides, but it was too snug of a fit.

i ended up getting it out with a homemade lock pick that had the end horizontal from the rest. i slid that end under the batter down in there and pulled. i tried Durracells next, and they don’t seem to have this problem.

they had wiggle room space and needed to be pushed down with the door to close, which means i should be able to grab it out, if needed. Thermometer works good otherwise. used for COVID, that i currently have.

Honestly, I bought this because it was one of the lesser expensive ones. But I pulled out of the package, put the battery in and pulled the trigger. If I need another one, I’ll buy this one again.

Works as advertised. I think its more expensive than others. Directions could be more helpful. Otherwise its good. I bought it just to play with. My wife hates it.

Works great, easy and fast way to check your tune on your motor. Found 1 cylinder cooler then the others. 1 loose wire and fouled plug. quick fix without a lot of guess work.

We love these thermometers. After trying a number of other brands, we settled on these as the best value by far. They are durable, accurate, and QUICK.
