20 Best Thistle Weed Killer (2022 Updated)

This is a good 2-4-D herbicide. I like it over the Amine 2-4-D alternative as it is less temperature dependent. I has a higher percentage of 2-4-D, but according to the materials I read, the Amine is more effective.

However, the LV400 does not stink like the Amine. I used the Amine one time and I could smell it all summer long every time I went outside. The best and most effective herbicide I have used also manufactured by Gordon’s is Speed Zone.

It is about twice as expensive and a combination of 4 herbicides in one. LV400 does a good job on the normal broad leaf weeds.

This worked fairly well at killing off the clover and other broad leaf weeds. We had to do a second application to make a good dent in the dollar weed/creeping Charlie. All of that being said you MUST protect any surrounding vegetation.

The first application was done with zero wind but it was quite warm. This totally destroyed some tomatoes that were 20-30 feet away. The second time we used a hand sprayer to have it more controlled and it still affected some more tomatoes that were 5-10 feet away.

I was able to save them by pruning off the curled parts but this stuff will selectively kill household plants and vegetables even if you are quite a ways away. Reading up on it, the drift factor with 24D is quite extensive and has ruined vineyards etc.

Google it before application so you know the right time to spray (3-4 mph breeze and temps under 85). We will be covering everything the next time we use this (or use it early enough/late enough that the garden is done and the perennials are dormant).

Temperature was in high 60’s when I sprayed my 2 acres. Have pull around 30 gallon sprayer. Maybe should have waited till temperature in 70’s. Mixed weed killer per instructions. Did take 6 days before weeds started wilting & some kind of weeds turned yellow and died.

Most weeds dead. Was afraid to mix to strong. Will apply again (2 times is max applications per year) when temperatures reach high 70’s/ low 80’s. Have never used this chemical before. But is safe for my berrmuda grass.

This does exactly what it’s supposed to do. Great price. For noobs add a surfactant. (Bet you didn’t. ) Spray within the temperature requirements advised on the instructions. This is a POST emergent not a PREemergent.

If you don’t want the weeds to come back you need to learn more about these chemicals and find yourself a good preemergent. Speaking cool season grass. BASICALLY this is what you use in spring to kill invasive weeds – also fertilize.

Then you need to spray a preemergent(it has to be watered in) before the crabgrass starts growing. Followup with trimec for missed weeds throughout the season until temperature sore up in the high 80s.

Don’t touch it in the summer. Wait for late summer or fall when the rains return and CORE aerate the lawn and overseed, fertilize with the grass type you have in your lawn already. The thicker your grass the less weeds return.

Stop mowing the grass to the ground! 2. 5 inches is the absolute lowest a noob should be at, 3. 5 for ease. If you want it to survive really low you need to use a growth inhibitor on the entire lawn.

Grass is a miniature plant. Get on the ground and look at it! The first inch is just thatch and the lower part of the plant. If you keep cutting it’s “head” off it will just keep trying to grow a new one and eventually die.

It has to be tall enough to get energy from the sun and GROW ROOTS. If you leave a bad review on a chemical because it’s not working. It’s YOU not the product. Good luck and let this get you started toward success.

I used in the spring in southern Wisconsin. Mixed strong at 150% recommended strength. Applied on entire lawn with an Ortho 2. 5 gallon hand spray bottle. Worked great killing all the weeds and didn’t harm any of the grass.

Be aware the lawn and dirt was very damp from heavy rains 2 and 4 days prior with light rains 3 days later. I would not have made the mixture this strong in dry conditions. Good luck!.

So first I’ll start with the pros for the lawnweed brew. Installation of the sprayer is easy. Take off the sticker and insert the red portion. The sprayer is quite efficient and I dont have to bend over to spray.

The cord is long yet doesnt get in the way while spraying. Easy to secure the sprayer back into the nook under the handle. Now the cons Two days later and tiny weeds barely showing leaf burning and don’t look like they’re dying at all.

I spray in the middle of the during warm weather. Fully saturated the weeds with two to three sprays for each weed. So I’m assuming I’m going to have to go out for a few more days and actually empty the entire bottle to get rid of the weeds.

Picking them by hand would be quicker at this point. I usually use more popular brand to take care of weeds and that one always gets the job done in one application. So if this particular weed spray is not having much of an affect on weeds I think grass will be just fine.

I appreciate the ease of use but didn’t make the slightest dent with all the tiny weeds in my front yard.

We have a small farm with a very long, and large, gravel driveway. We use this once a year to control grasses and weeds that grow in the gravel driveway as well as controlling grasses around our barn, under our trees, and on the sidewalks.

This also knocked out poison ivy in a few spots if applied thick enough. Combined with a Stihl backpack sprayer, we couldn’t be happier. For mixing, add water slowly as others have suggested. It will foam with fast water flow and can overspill if not careful.

When applying, we walk backwards and spray in front of us to prevent walking through the chemical. One bottle/container covers everything we need. We’ve applied annually for the last three years and have noticed less and less return growth.

Results are noticed in a few days.

I bought this concentrate for poison ivy, weeds, grass, and whatever to make it easier to mow around a shed and other obstacles, including my A/C unit on a slab, the gas meter and trash bins, and I thought maybe for small bush stumps, since that’s mentioned on the bottle, but mostly for poison ivy under the shed and around the house.

I mixed it by the directions (which are very hard to figure out): 2x cap fulls to the 3-line (plus a little more for extra strength) into 1 gallon of water. First, I poured the concentrate, 1 cap full at a time, into the 1-gallon pump sprayer I bought for it, then added the water to mix it up, 4 cups at a time, 4 times (16 cups = 1 gallon).

I sprayed it on poison ivy, weeds, grass and whatever, and I spayed it on heavily. I spayed it heavily on the poison ivy leaves and grass blades, down the stems and shafts, through the growth with the wand, and into the ground with the sprayer tip to be sure to get great coverage.

Everything was dry and it did not rain that day, nor the next until late, so the product was not further diluted or interfered with by rain, and it was quite warm that day. It’s supposed to be rainproof in 30 minutes, so this should have been plenty of time.

The product has done absolutely nothing to the poison ivy, weeds, grass, or anything else, not even any wilting in 3 days, especially not the poison ivy, which is what I really bought it for. I could not have given the product more of a chance to work through the effort exerted and procedure I used to spray it and cover the targets.

I worked in small sections. After spraying the poison ivy leaves and other stuff heavily, I pushed and pulled the wand in and out of the growth while continually spaying the section, moving it down and then soaking the roots, then sprayed the leaves again, and then moved on to another small section.

I want my money back. This stuff DOES NOT WORK!!!.

I have used Roundup on my property for about the last 5 years. I like the product but there are major issues with material. When I bought my first container with a sprayer, it worked very well. I used it immediately after purchasing it from Home Depot.

The next year I still had the spray container, so I purchased the refill container and the material worked fine. I also needed more material and I bought the super concentrate so that I could mix my own material At the end of the summer I had used only half of the material, and so I kept the spray container with the product in it in my garage over the winter.

My garage doesn’t freeze, since it is attached to the house. The next spring, this year 2021, when I tried to use the sprayer, it didn’t work. I opened the container and found that the product had jelly lumps in it and therefore they were clogging the fine openings in the sprayer.

I cleaned the sprayer and screened the product. When I sprayed it on the walkway weeds nothing happened. The material had lost its potency. I read the labels on the containers carefully and found no mention of self life and also proper conditions for storage of the material.

So I bought another container of Roundup with a sprayer on it. The newly purchased product worked wonderfully. However, I needed more, so I made a new mixture from the Super Concentrate that I had purchased two years earlier.

When I used it, it did not work at all. So there is a self life to the super concentrate. That really troubled me, because the Super Concentrate cost about $73. 00 when I purchased it. So my questions are twofold: 1.

Why is there no statement on the containers that state there is a self life associated with the product; and 2. Why is there no expiration date printed on the container. This is really a lack of sensitivity to the residential customer.

I finally wet on the web and read a lot of reviews. The jelly effect isw known and posted on various sites, but the RoundUp website does not give one proper storage conditions. Further reading lead me to a statement several layers deep into the RoundUp website that the shelf life is 4 years.

That is a meaningless statement, since they do not give you the storage conditions used to develop that number. When a residential customer buys the product from a retail store, there is no indication as to how old the product is.

And for the residential user, that has stored the material along with other gardening materials, there is no way of knowing the effectiveness of this product. The labeling and instructions really need to be vastly improved.

As a final note, I have read many of the reviews posted here. People who use the product when it is potent, get excellent results. But other individuals present information that indicates that they have product that is past its shelf life and found that it does not work.

As a result the distribution in ratings is bimodal.

This product works fantastic on Creeping Charlie, need to be liberal in application soaking the leaves well. May need another application depending on the severity of the infestation. But if applied right leaves will turn black as the weed dies in 1-2 days! Highly recommended to take back your lawn from this ferocious weed!! Safe for wildlife and pets, skip the chemical products and get this! The earth will thank you!.

I liked the two options for the spray. Stream or wide spray. I did not like that it seemed to leak while I sprayed, even with garden gloves on. I took off gloves, washed hands, ran hand under water, as directed, when spray came in contact with skin.

I’ve used Bonide before. The product works. This method of use, the battery-operated sprayer, did not. I was extremely disappointed. After trying to get the sprayer to work, after watching it spit and spurt, after soaking my glove, I gave up.

I purchased it about a month ago. I sprayed the crabgrass and other broad-leaf weeds twice. I killed nothing. l sprayed the same weeds with Trimec Crabgrass Friday, July 29,2022. The crabgrass and broad-leaf weeds are wilting and showing that the Trimec Crabgrass is killing the crabgrass and other weeds.

Trimec contains 2. 13% Quinclorac ( active ingredient to kill crabgrass). Roundup Crabgrass contains only 0. 118% of Quinclorac. Trimec Crabgrass contains 0. 60% of Dicamba dimethylamine salt while Roundup Crabgrass contains only 0.

029%. It appears that Monsanto was more interested in making a cheaper more profitable product rather than a quality product that actually performs as stated on the label. I will take it back to Lowes and try to get my money back.

I ordered 2 of these jugs and have only opened one thus far. The automatic wand dispenser on the one jug that I opened today was a total waste. I even changed the batteries in the wand and put in new batteries.

That didn’t help either. When I attempted to spray a weed, it sounded like it wanted to spray. All I ever got out of the wand was a dribble. I ended up pouring the liquid from the Roundup jug into a plain manually operated spray bottle.

I will NOT purchase this product again. I seriously doubt that the other jug that I have will operate properly either. It’s a total waste of money!.

The basic instructions should be UP FRONT and in larger print. Come on. Print is too small for most of us to read! Illustrations on how to turn the thing on must be clearer, can’t see an on or off label on the little red cap, connected to the bottle.

But it turns out that is NOT where the on and off is! STOP BURYING BASIC INSTRUCTIONS IN ALL THAT MESS. 2 days before and after NO MOW. Rain proof in 4 hours, but water in 8 hours. CLEAR AND UP FRONT.

TAKE OUT BATTERIES!!.

I have tried a lot of different products on creeping charlie, this stuff works you will probably need 2 applications. Read and follow directions when and how to apply. Knocks clover out almost over night.

I would buy again. Great product that works as advertised.

Have always experienced great results with this product. Kills unwanted weeds, kikuyu and crab grass all while fertilizing my tall fescue grass. Follow the recommendations on the bottle for best results.

Label call for wild violet control, but this will be my 3rd application with little to no results. It does suppress Bermuda wonderfully though.

I have been using this at all of our properties for about 3 years. I mix this at 3X the required amount & mix it with HOT water. This product takes about 9 days before the offending bush, ivy, weeds, small tree, vines, grass or whatever you’ve sprayed it on is dead but that plant is not coming back.

This is the most thorough product on the market. 10 stars.

Been using this for 5 to 10 years and thats how old some of the bottles are. Does a great job. Seems like nothing happens and then all turns brown. I think it took about 2 weeks last time. I thought maybe no good but then done! Concentrated so about 2 2/3 ounces per gallon of water.

This was shipped free with priority mail arrived at the very next day! eraser is the only thing that kills our tough weeds at our cabin !

Buyer beware. I wasn’t thinking when I ordered this product. I didn’t pay attention to “RTU” and I didn’t realize it means Ready to Use. The picture on the container is very similar to the picture of the KleenUp concentrate which is also 128 oz.

I thought I was ordering the concentrate and was getting a good deal even after paying $12 for shipping. A total of about $30 for what Amazon was charging $40 with free shipping. It ended up that I paid a little over $30 per gall for vegetation killer whereas if I had paid $40 plus $2.

40 tax for Amazon’s concentrate I could have mixed 62 gallons for an average cost of less than 70 cents per gallon. Bottom line, if you have a tank sprayer, don’t buy the Ready to Use, buy the concentrate.

The RTU is about 48 times more expensive after factoring in shipping costs. As for the product, it does a good job of killing whatever is sprayed.

I purchased this product on 5/13/22. I have a spine problem so I had to hire a yard man to come out and spray my beds. The fisrt visit he charged me $40. I watched as he sprayed well the entire area.

On the bottle is stated: visible results in 3 hours. I went outside in 3 hours and nothing! No results whatsoever. I went back in 6 hours. and Nothing. I continued looking for a couple of days to no avail.

It did not kill any grass or even the tiny weeds that were visible. I called the company after several days, and the customer service rep checked and returned to the phone stating it might take up to 2 weeks total.

I waited longer and then had the yard man come back and respray to no avail!. This time he charged me $60. During that time it was very hot, dry weather, and the weeds should have died by then. I saw a tv ad yesterday for this product which stated, GUARANTEED RESULTS OR YOUR MONEY FULLY REFUNDED.

! I have now spent $100 to spray these few weeds and grass + a total of $17. 17 for the spray, making it a total of$117. 11. Today it has been 2 wseeks adn 1 day, since he first sprayed with no results!.

I sprayed diluted roundup solution around the trunk of my oak, green ash trees and roses to remove weeds growing in this area (also called area inside the drip line). The herbicide effectively killed all the weeds in this area: the weeds dried up and turned to a beige color.

Unfortunately, the chemical also caused some damage to the oak, green ash and roses: their leaves became twisted and leaf growth was stunted. The upper part of some rose trunks died as well. It was indeed noted on Google that these chemicals can damage the roots of plants or trees that have shallow roots.

It is a great product for killing weeds. Just be aware about not to apply directly around or too close to trees. I think such a warning on the label would be very helpful to users.

The foam spray bottle product makes a foam, which is actually quite important, as it allows you to see where you have sprayed. I applied this product to grass on a cobblestone walkway that had grass coming up between the stones.

I applied only where there was vegetation that I wanted to target, and I made certain to whet all leaf/grass green surfaces. Weather was sunny, but cooler 12-16C. It took a week, but everything I sprayed is dead as dead can be.

Some new growth has started after several months, but it is quite muted and a small respray should get it. HOWEVER, the coverage with the 1L bottle was a paltry 3sq m. Not impressed much with that. In addition, I do not believe the spray bottle can be refilled from the 5L bottle called “Ready to apply refill (7g/l)”, as this product does not have a foaming agent.

Regarding the various product options, I made a little chart, which I attach here. Looks like I paid the most per kg for Glyphosate that I could have managed. Bonus. Summary: Buy a more concentrated form, so you pay less for Glyphosate, and control your own dilution ratio.

If you need foaming (you do) good luck with that.

Please use this instead of toxic weed killers on the market. Yes, it isn’t poison so it takes a couple of passes for stubborn weeds, but it works. I have a large property and never pull weeds. Just use this about once a month, or even less.

I took my other weed killers to the dumps Hazardous Waste disposal site. Care about the environment. So your part.

I’m pleasantly surprised that this product worked well at killing my weeds. Though expensive and needing a goodly amount per application, I like the fact that it states that it isn’t harmful to people nor pets.

We have to stop using “Round-up” which does harm the environment and living things.

I purchased three quarts. Two of them worked, the third one did not seem as strong as the first two. Same type of weeds. I still recommend it!!!

With small pets it’s essential to have non-toxic products for the home & garden. A product that works in a day without damaging the environment…take my money!

I love pulling weeds by hand. But sometimes the weather keeps me from getting the job done in a timely manner; taking months to get through my front yard grass. So I was looking for a little help. What I love about this product is the high quality hose and trigger.

After it is easily installed, it can be controlled with an open/close switch on the jug. The hose is a nice long length of nearly 3 feet that makes it easy to precisely spray your target. After use, the trigger easily clicks in under the jug handle for convenient storage.

But as for the weed killer, it didn’t work as well as I had hoped, even after my results were better by shaking it well. It did wilt some dandelions and some of my sturdiest, heartiest monster weeds.

But I guess I was just expecting it to work faster than it did. So for now, I’ll just continue to pull my weeds by hand.

This is easy to apply and works quickly to kill grass and weeds. I attached the included spray applicator and sprayed this along the driveway, curb edges, sidewalk and a fence line. The sprayed areas killed quickly, we had a thunderstorm overnight and the sprayed areas were dead the when checked the following day.

So this product is rainproof – the label says after three hours. I am not seeing any grow back so far and am not really expecting to because this product kills at the roots. We have just under an acre lot and I used less than a fourth of a gallon container of this product.

So if I have any new areas to treat, I will have more than enough product to last the rest of the year. I really like with this product that sprayed areas, if you want or need to, can be re-sown after only 5 days – with other products I was surprised to learn that it can be up to 2 months.

Another plus it does not have a heavy chemical odor when sprayed. This is an effective product for grass and weed kill it is easy to apply and works as stated. I am very satisfied. I can also easily find this in my local stores.

I have recently used the Natria Grass and Weed Control with Root Kill. I live in Arizona and this has been a crazy spring for weeds as we have had a wet winter. Our yard is overrun with weeds and they are tough and desert-like.

I wasn’t sure about this brand as I was not familiar with Natria. This is easy to use. It comes with its own applicator/spray. You shake the bottle, open the cap and insert the end of the hose into the top.

once the hose part is hooked, you turn the nozzle to one of two positions (a wide spray or a direct squirt). The nozzle can be returned to the off position as well. The nozzle is squirted a few times and then the liquid is sprayed out.

I found the whole process easy. The hose stretches so you have some range away from the container (although a short distance). The spray function was fine for me. The biggest question with weed killer is did it kill the weeds? It reports it will be within minutes, however I found this to be true with small sized weeds but the larger ones did not immediately die.

Some required a second application as well. Again, this was for larger tough desert style weeds. Smaller weeds did shrink and turn brown. It was easy to pull them out/remove and I do believe it killed the weeds at the root.

I think this is a quality product. It works as intended. Some of my weeds required a little extra work, but I have found other products to be similar in comparison. So far no signs of weeds reappearing where the product has been sprayed so that is another plus.

I maintain 10 desert acres. The way out of weed takeover by July and I mean farm-like sections of weeds, is to pre emerge yearly! I have to be selective around vegetation and the house directly, but for the furthest areas around my property, I use an atv sprayer.

The first year preemerging, we got surflan southern weed killer, the second year we got TVC. I was worried about the TVC and was looking for something as effective but not as devastating. I saw a video for the RM43 and got it! It seems to have worked great and I like how it kills existing weeds as well! None of the other preemergants did that! I was even still spraying weeds with the leftover mix out of a sprayer.

It left NO Green!! I use Caseron for in and around vegetation and good ol picking them everywhere else every year. Unless I find something as good or better and less expensive, I’ll be buying the RM43 from here on out!.

We have 4 homes spread out over several acres of family property. I keep about 12 acres of the property mowed and cleared. That includes weed eating around each home, several outbuildings, and a very wide, long drainage ditch.

It has become too much for me over the last couple years, so we have using herbicide in place of most of the weed eating. I mixed this product at a rate of 2 quarts in a 25 gallon sprayer. We sprayed a little over 125 gallons of mix over 2 days.

It took about 4 days before we started noticing any effect, but within a week it was obviously working well. Now 2 weeks later the RM43 has killed everywhere we sprayed. As noted in the instructions, it will get into the root system and spread to surrounding plants whether you want it to or not.

Not a big deal to me but it might be to others. Don’t use it in areas you don’t want everything dead. It kills at least twice as much as you intend it to. I think the prices are ridiculous but if it lasts a full year, it will be worth it.

We have an 18×10 area that is mulched and covered in crafted metal animals and lawn art, antique ox pulled plow, carousel horse, etc. It doesn’t look great when it is covered in weeds that grow through the supposed weed mat.

I tried the normal ground clear products and no results. Then my Tractor Supply associate told me about this product. It works like a charm! In a few hours, start to see a little brown in the weeds and in two or three days everything’s dead.

I use it 2x a year and no issues. I also use it on our parking pads, flagstone patio, sidewalks, and in our mulched backyard area. While it seems more expensive, it really isn’t, because you mix it with water, so you can make gallons of it for your sprayer.

You have to trust the process with this, Celsius is a slow killer but it will annihilate Dallisgrass to its roots! My Bermuda lawn was infested with Dallisgrass to the point you couldn’t see any Bermuda at all.

Many YouTubers suggested MSMA but this site suggested Celsius for residential use. I used it with Methylated Seed Oil and made sure i sprayed the weeds until wet. I saw no results until Day 3, which was when the Dallisgrass blade tips started turning red.

Each day afterwards, a larger percentage of the blades turned red – and then turned a darker burgundy-red – and then started yellowing at the roots as well. There were small patches of Dallisgrass that seemed unaffected until Day 7.

But by day 8, every bit of the Dallisgrass took a drastic change for the worse. What was once red was now turning brown, what was once yellow was now turning black – and what was once unaffected in appearance, was now dying fast.

A second application after 10-14 days is suggested but, right now it’s Day 9 and it doesn’t look like the Dallisgrass will make it. I’m gonna put down some DITHIOPYR pre-emergent after it’s all completely dead and start pushing my Bermuda Grass to take back over.

Again, you have to be patient and let it run its course – cuz Celsius is the Usain Bolt of the 4 x 400 meter relay!.

I bought Celsius WG to rid my yard of “Florida Snow” (Richardia Scabra). Once this weed becomes apparent, your grass is long gone. The Celsius WG killed the weed without harming my St Augustine grass.

It takes a few applications but my grass ( I’m on an acre) has started to thrive. Every yard around my house has this weed and it is constantly spreading to my yard. I keep Celsius on hand to fight the new infestations.

I highly recommend Celsius WG to battle Florida Snow.

I love this stuff!!! One of the best weed killers for Bermuda lawns I have used. This will kill 90-95% of the weeds in your lawn and has no temperature restrictions and actually works better the hotter it is outside.

Don’t expect a quick kill with this as it usually takes 1-3 weeks to totally kill off the weed and a little goes a LONG way. I bought this as I was running low on my original bottle which was about 8 years old and it still worked just fine.

I used it to kill nut grass and used just what the instructions said for a 2 gal hand sprayer with just a 1/2 oz more and it worked GREAT. Within 2 days you’ll see the nut grass dying. When I mowed the next time you couldn’t even see that I ever had it and after 2 days of mowing there still wasn’t any above the grass like it usually is.

If I see it again next year I’ll spray it again with the same amount of Trimec that I used the last time. Be sure to spray when it is young and just starting to grow in June and maybe early July. I’ll buy this product again as it works and it is bargain price to buy.

Been using this nutsedge killer for a few years now. Works great and does the job. Love seeing the fast growing sedge turn from green to a lovely yellow quickly.

Killed all the ‘hard to kill’ weds. Cudweed, wood sorrel, clover and many more. Great stuff!
