20 Best Thread For Sewing (2022 Updated)

I know that colors on web can be inaccurate, but this is way off. The color #272 listed as “blue” and showing as a clear blue is actually dark dull navy. If you wanted navy, you would be fine, but the description of color is wrong online (“Blue”).

Other websites (I checked after purchasing) call #272 “Navy”, which aligns with the actual color.

Excellent thread, but the spool broke on both Gutermann 1000 m spools purchased in this lot just when I was trying to find the end of the thread. The thread end was under a label on the end of the spool.

Just maneuvering the spool in search of the end of the thread broke the outer plastic ‘ring’ on the end of the spool on both the black and white thread I purchases. On the white spool, the plastic ‘ring’ broke off of both ends.

This was highly disappointing as I expect far better quality from Gutermann. The spools now don’t sit as well on the machine, but the thread is still excellent. Thread is 5 stars, actual spool is 1 star for an average of 3 stars :(.

There is nothing wrong with the above pictured product itself and it is the correct thread for my project. Your staff are all very pleasant. However a few months ago, when I first asked about which thread to use for my upholstery project, one of your staff gave me the wrong advice.

(She is a very pleasant person. ) But, she gave me the wrong advice because she told me that the thinner thread would be suitable for upholstery. In fact, for upholstery the thicker thread is required.

The “Gutermann Top Stitch Thread 30m Electric Blue (322)” is indeed the correct thicker thread for upholstery: it was my upholstery teacher who told me this after I had also previously purchased on the earlier occassion the thinner Gutermann thread which is 100m.

Both the 30m and the 100m cost the same price (£2), but the correct thread for upholstery is the 30m and not the 100m.

I have always found this particular brand to be most satisfactory. However, this particular purchase has proved to be dreadful. The tension of the thread is too loose, so when I attempt to guide it through the eye of the sewing machine or a hand needle only one strand will pass through.

It has taken me 15 minutes to thread my sewing machine. Yet the other colour bought at the same time is fine.

I bought this thread to resew buttons onto a leather jacket. They never seem to do the job properly. It’s a good strong thread that was perfect for the job. Would buy again as comes in lots of colours.

Our community is preparing an outdoor installation of home-made Remembrance Poppies to commemorate the centenary of our village war-memorial. We fix acrylic-yarn poppies to camouflage-netting – and this polyester thread [doubled] discreetly and efficiently ties or sews poppies to the netting-backing.

We have trialled a metre-square of water-immersed poppies; we have trialled it in wind. We think that it will hold up in November storms. Dye, finish and thread are consistent for handsewing and presentation.

I have just reordered with confidence.

I love this thread. If you’re sewing with many neutral linens or linen look cotton fabric then this is the thread for you. Even heavily patterned fabrics with a neutral linen base is suited to this thread colour.

Has always been in stock when I’ve wanted it at Hobbycraft, together with a wide range of colours and in this large size is really excellent value. Bonus when bought on 3 for 2!.

Poor quality. I was using this for sewing in my sewing machine. The thread was so thin that it kept breaking and I kept having to re-thread the sewing machine when it broke. No recommended to use in a sewing machine.

This is pretty good thread. I just started sewing and I do enjoy this brand. There are many shades of colors to choose from which is my favorite thing about the brand.

This thread worked well in my sewing machine without issues. I like the lower price and will definitely purchase it again.

I was looking for invisible thread that would run smoothly thru my sewing machine. Not sure this is the one!

I love this thread. The cone is a great value and the thread lasts a long time. I’ve used several so fine cones and have never experienced breakage or had tension issues. My machine (Pfaff Creative Sensation Pro II) does all the decorative stitches, walking foot function, free motion quilting,.

everything, with absolutely no tension issues. I will buy this thread as long as they make it.

I use this thread when ever I can’t figure out WHAT color to use for machine quilting. It disappears on the back of a quilt, It is almost like it reflects the color around it. Especially useful on multi color backgrounds.

Shhhhh! Don’t tell everyone. This is absolutely one of the best metallic threads I have used. It rarely breaks using normal tension with regular embroidery bobbin thread. It can twist and even with the occasional knot into the tensions discs it stitches beautifully in all embroidery designs.

The only breaks I have gotten so far is when I try to use hand-rewinds onto the spool. I have found it helpful to use both thread guides on my embroidery machine as the thread can easily wrap around itself coming off the spool…whether horizontal or vertical.

This is my go to metallic thread over every brand I have tried.

First of all, this stuff is not a “Thread” as advertised. It’s more like a fine tinsel, from a plastic base. Unlike thread it is quite strong and it will stretch a ways before it actually breaks. However, it is quite reflective and metallic.

I am very happy with this product, I knew what I wanted before I bought it and it filled that purpose nicely. I will buy it again, however it may be several years before I need another 250 yards of it!.

I loved this multi-color metallic thread when I found it in the store. It is flat and seems to be plastic and has some stretch to it before it breaks. I am making a quilt from my old rock T’s and use the thread to sew decorative lines across the fabric and to interfacing to reinforce the T-shirting material.

If I sew very very slowly the thread cooperates better but you never know when it will break completely having to start over. If you are patient or have time it looks amazing against the black t-shirt material.

I used a straight stitch and a zigzag, I like both but the zigzag takes longer but seems more stable.

High quality thread. Sews smoothly and regularly on my serger. Sews significantly better than the other brand I originally purchased. Recommended by my sewing machine repair person. It’s worth the price and I am very happy to find it on this website at a much better price! Highly recommend.

Everything came on time. Aerolock is fantastic serger thread, and this is the best online source that I’ve found.

One base was partially cracked and fell off. Still usable.

Perfect length, just enough stretch, and the pockets are thoughtful and well placed. No more worrying about losing your wallet or phone while biking or whatever. And it you get in the water the drawstring is a huge benefit to keeping your shorts on.

These are thick threads, that sit on top of the fabric beautifully, adding a lovely subtle texture to your piece. I have used these extensively, and really like them. I also use the 12 wt, which is even thicker, and adds more texture.

the color choices are excellent. I use a 60 wt bobbin thread with them, and it works beautifully.

I got some of the Sulky Blendables and used it in my serger’s upper looper. Lovely. The thread changed colors at a reasonable pace – enough to see each color but not long enough to be boring. And the thread looped beautifully across the top of the fabric.

I plan to buy more.

This is my favorite thread for quilting. (I also use it for patching my grandkids jeans). Since I’m on a fixed income, but quilt a lot, this thread helps make it affordable to pursue my hobby. I use it from piecing to quilting.

Since I’m in the habit of cleaning lint from my machine after every use I don’t find that the lint is a problem ( I’ve used other threads that leave much more lint). When thread gets caught in the machines hook/bobbin area, this thread is strong enough that it won’t break when I’m getting the thread untangled.

I love the fact that I can fill several bobbins and still use the spool for the top thread and everything matches. Great durability too. I’ve made MANY quilts with this thread and it stays strong through repeated washings, dryings and hard use.

Beautiful neutral grey perfect for piecing a multicolor quilt top! The 30wt size is stronger than other 50wt quilt threads yet this 30wt does not add bulk to my scant 1/4 inch seams. I do not see much lint in bobbin case either! The spool fits easily in top of my Janome 8200 (horizontal delivery) with cover down, and I do not need an auxiliary thread stand; however some home machines may benefit from a thread stand (you can easily make one by bending a metal clothes hanger, Google it).

The price here on Wal-Mart is half of the big box fabric store and I got 6 spools with free shipping to keep me stitching for quite a while!.

Stop buying this thread at Joann Fabrics. It’s great thread but not worth 12. 99 a spool. Buy it at Walmart. I buy a lot of sewing products from Walmart because they are quite a bit cheaper than Joann Fabrics.

Just wish Walmart would expand their fabrics. I make quilts and use tons of thread. You would definitely get the customers. I’d be there all the time.

This tread by Superior is excellent. I am quilting a 27” x 91” bed runner for a friend. For free motion quilting I used 90/14 top stitch needle and the OMNI thread top and bottom in my Bernina machine – no hassle – no breaking or shredding of the thread at all.

Very happy with the results.

I have been trying out threads on my new longarm, and this Omni thread is far superior than the others I’ve tried. Low lint is a plus, too! And the Fat Quarter Shop delivers in the blink of an eye!

I have been using Madera Aerofil thread for awhile now when piecing. It gives the best results. When sewing HST together (or any other piecing) It is my observation that I get the best accurate measurement on my square when squaring up.

The thread seems to be a very good quality thread. I have not used it yet. I just feel like I paid too much, but I know shipping isnt free. But I needed it, as I could not buy thread locally during this pandemic.

Not exactly the mustard yellow I needed, it was more of a bright yellow color, than what the picture shows, but I can use this color in the future, I’m sure.

I love the Aerofil thread. I have less problems with this thread in my machine than any other thread I’ve used. tangle-free problem free.
