20 Best Thumbsticks For Ps4 (2022 Updated)

FPSFreek Galaxy PS4 and Switch Pro I have found thumbstick covers to be cumbersome up until now, so I didn’t use them. However, I have a new puppy that tore off a chunk of my PS4 DualShock, so I starting shopping around.

I was pretty skeptical concerning KontrolFreek’s claim about improving gameplay performance, but I’ve been converted. The rubber they use is soft and comfy, and grips just right. I have long thumbs (I actually really liked the original controller for the original Xbox), so the extension these give is very comfortable.

Making the thumbstick longer also gives you higher accuracy, since it is much easier to make slighter tilts. I actually bought a second pair of the PS4 FPSFreak Galaxies so I could have both sizes for each thumbstick.

They recommend different lengths for different game genres, and I agree. I bought some for my Switch Pro controller as well. I’ve noticed that the PS4 covers fit the Switch Pro sticks very well. The Switch Pro covers will work on PS4, but the actual PS4 covers fit just a tad better.

I was skeptical at first. My thumbstick had come undone on my controller so I was really looking for a replacement. I got WAY more than that. These thumbstick takes a bit to get use to but once you’re use to them you will never go back to traditional thumbsticks.

I have some cheapo no names that I got with another purchased controller and these FPS Freek are night and day difference. They 100% do as advertised. I know they can be a bit much but after using them I would not hesitate to buy more sets.

These are a game changer!! GO GET THEM!!!.

Galaxy Freeks High Rise Thumbsticks performed better than I anticipated. I had been using the mid rise thumbsticks for the past few years and was pleased with them. Recently I decided to try out the taller ones cause I wanted to raise my sensitivity in game FPS Multiplayer.

WOW, they offered me that extra little finer control I needed to raise my sense a few degrees and I wish I wouldn’t have waited so long to get the taller ones. Could not recommend them more if you want to raise your sensitivity a little in FPS multiplayer games.

I swore there was nothing that was topping the galaxies. Until I came across these. Was a little skeptical about these for 2 reasons. Height and type of thumbstick. Coming from the galaxies (9mm height), I thought that transitioning to these (11.

3mm height) would be too tall for my slightly below average hand size(7in). But honestly, the grip on these(which are better than the galaxies), lets me rest my thumb on the edge so it doesn’t feel as tall as I’d imagine.

Also because they’re domed, I thought that would be an awkward transition, but the pattern on the thumbstick’s edge has a slight dip in them. Clearly not as indented as the galaxies, but more than enough to keep your thumb snug on the stick.

So if anything, they feel like a hybrid thumbstick.

These are a literal game changer. I was concerned that the highrise was going to be too high, but after a day or so of using them, I know I made the right choice. Aiming is so much more consistent. I have only had them come off twice, but the way I was moving the controller, nothing that wasn’t super glued on would have stayed.

I have tried to play without them, and can’t. It feels weird not having them on.

Generally, I’m a big fan of KontrolFreek products. The material and craftsmanship of these sticks was on par with the rest of their products. These are great for BR play on the PS4. However, they’re a tad too tall for the larger PS5 DualSense.

The FPS Freek Edges are similar, in that they feel like a perfect fit on the PS4, but are a mm or two beyond optimal for the PS5.

I initially decided to try the KF Infernos because they were on sale. Played one day and thought whatever. Next day played with another controller without the KF’s and wow, immediately noticed the difference.

I then started playing exclusively with the LE Star Wars Darth Vader controller but wasn’t feeling the Inferno stick on the right thumb very comfortable so I thought I’d do a matching color scheme with the Vader controller and found the Omni thumbs ticks to be the style and color I wanted.

Well as they say, the rest is history. For me this is the optimal combination. Inferno on the left thumbsticks and Omni on the right. Both are concave, which is my preferred style and they match perfectly with the Vader controller.

I put the other two on my Playstation 20th Anniversary Edition controller to add some color to the matte grey. All I can say is these little guys make a huge difference in game play. Especially if you occasionally play for at least at hour at a time.

Couple things I found out that helped me with some common problems of KF’s. If your KF’s occasionally pop off, make sure that one of the arms is located on the thumbstick at the directive position they pop off at.

Like if you hv a habit of forcefully pushing up to a 12 o’clock position and they pop off then make sure one of the 3 prong arms is attached to the controller thumbstick at the 12 o’clock position. This has worked for me tremendously.

Also, when you feel that your KF’s don’t seem to hv as much grip / tackiness simple whip them clean with simple rubbing alcohol. And wouldn’t hurt to wipe your fingers with it too. Especially if your getting ready for an extended gaming session.

The sticks are pretty good quality and seem to have good durability. I guess I’m pretty rough on my normal thumb sticks because I often knocked these Inferno Kontrol Freaks off at first, but I got used to being more gentle with them.

I give them three stars because they’re marketed for MLB The Show. I think Kontrol Freaks should be marketing a mid-height version of these instead for that game, or maybe a mixed medium & high pair.

I say that because I’ve realized everybody who is pretty good at the game recommends the shorter height Kontrol Freaks. I’ve heard this from friends, Redditors, and Youtubers and I can see why. It’s difficult to use such a high stick while batting (LS), given that it’s really easy to overshoot or yank the left stick while trying to move the PCI.

These help me compared to regular sticks, but mostly just for pitching (RS).

At my age, the controls on these newer consoles makes things a bit complicated, frustrating. I heard about these on a YouTube gaming channel, decided to try them out, with a package of the precision rings.

Wish I had found them sooner. Was able to tighten up my Show22 game by a good margin (with precision pitching was night and day improvement), and some of the steering idiocy I was finding in Gran Turismo 7 was corrected.

Nicely made, easy to install and the shipping was quick. Definitely a fan now, highly recommend PS5.

The Vortex Kontrolfreeks are by far my favorite design with the infernos being my second favorite. My favorite thing about this design pattern is how grippy it is compared to competitors like galaxies and battle royales.

I never felt I lost grip in long gaming sessions or in important gaming moments. I was very dismayed when I noticed the redesign after ordering a fresh set on amazon. There was no update, here, on your official website or on the amazon official website when making my purchase.

It would have made a lot more sense to revise the design of the infernos giving people the option of a mid and high rise concave inferno since most gamers only use 1 on their right stick and if they use both it’s almost always a mid rise on the left stick.

Having a mix of height for the infernos would lead to people purchasing your product more frequently if they use both that come in the package instead of one now one later. The vortex should’ve had a warning about being redesigned because now you’ve wasted gamers time, energy, and money.

Personally I only use a high rise vortex on my right stick due to the fact I don’t like concave sticks. The vortex would be more unique if it came with a mid and high rise that are both convex making it completely different than every other option.

Now when gamers buy infernos and vortexes they have both heights and both designs and everyone is happy with their new options. By making the high rise vortex basically an **** looking inferno you got rid of the only thing making it worth buying which was the shape.

Instead of adding more options you’ve gotten rid of an option and limited players to kontrolfreeks they may not like. The old Vortex happens to be a lot of people favorite design including DCawesomer who is a big advocate in the community for the high rise vortex old design.

Another thing you could have done to improve the vortex design is by changed the color of the bottom to white, brown, royale, blue, or a really sharp silver or something to give it a more aesthetically pleasing look than all orange.

Anyways I hope to hear your thoughts on this inconvenience in the near future. I still love kontrolfreeks I just want you guys to keep your product descriptions up to date and do things that actually make your products better.

I thoroughly enjoy using these, the extra height on the right stick definitely helps with aim. the only reason I am going four and not five stars is most likely purchaser error. I bought these for xbox controller but my controller has slightly different size thumbsticks but I just made a small cut into the rubber and they fit like a glove and are very secure.

My cats have even stolen my thumbsticks in the middle of the night and even they weren’t able to remove the kontrol freeks. 10/10 on the item and it doing what it should and have already recommended them to several friends.

the precisions rings are my next purchase once I can find my sticker with the 15% off code.

Recently purchased the Vortex for my PS4 controller. It was my first time using a KontrolFreek while playing COD. Honestly it didn’t take more than 30-40 minutes for me to get used to them and I must say the movements that they allow me to make in a much shorter time frame are excellent.

The right Vortex is excellent for me. I tried using both the right and left Vortex on the analog sticks together at the same time and I honestly feel like you only need the right Vortex on to see a major difference in movements.

I also played around with just using the left Vortex but only using it on the right (R3) analog stick and nothing on the left analog. Not feeling that so much though as it is shorter and the feel was different enough that for me it didn’t work, but could see how other people may prefer that though if they should choose.

I do like that KontrolFreek had the left analog a small Concave and the taller right analog is a Convex. For me it was nice because it was my first pair of KontrolFreek’s and it gave me more options to try out and get a feel for.

Overall, I would recommend this product and would actually love to see KontrolFreek implement more options like this where you have (taller, shorter, concave, convex, left, right, etc. ) just as this was.

And, I tried playing COD without these and feel like it was just crazy trying to play without out them the whole time before I ever tried KontrolFreek’s. Already ordered other Thumbsticks from them and looking forward to trying more options to find the pair/combo that gives me the ultimate performance for my gameplay.

Been using for a week now and i already feel the difference on day 1! I am playing COD WW2 (BoyFa3z69); style of play is definitely SNIPPING! It does what it says but i have been experimenting with other performance thumbsticks and found myself using Snipr for right, and Vortex for left.

Its the best combination for me by far. It really helps on manuvering on top of precision accuracy. Now headshots is no problem with any sniper riffles! Try experimenting with different heights combination with Snipr and also control sensitivity play a part too.

I would rate my skill as a gamer just outside the professional level. I average around a 4-8 KD on COD, Destiny, Fortnite. I’ve owned the Galaxy (great but not domed) Newest CQC (Amazing for run and gun in your face play) and now these sniper freeks.

Which are amazing because they are domed and allow for the most accuracy at longer ranges which is where I’m most deadly, these won’t make you a zero to hero, but if you want to improve and have more control over your gameplay these are a great buy.

Only negative is the comfort ( height is great even with extremely small hands, and I play claw these don’t hinder me at all, it’s simply the pattern that is a little annoying) 4. 5/5.

Here’s an unbiased review. First off these sticks will not make you a godly gamer that comes from hard work and devotion! What they do is that they basically increase sensitivity on the sticks making for quicker responsiveness in camera movement.

I think of it like this with your control you move your stick a certain amount and you know where you’re reticle in an fps game will go. these sticks basically change that up you get to where you want faster and with possibly better accuracy.

but let me tell you that you have to train yourself to do this once you get the sticks. I use my cqc sticks now and I’m used to it. And yes I do feel like they help me with target acquisition. but I had to get used to them just like say if you bumped up the sensitivity in the game options, it is allot like that but it feels like I have better control with the sticks as apposed to just turning up my sensitivity.

It’s kinda hard to explain. Now as for the other sticks that are bigger/longer Ive found them really hard to control, Again’ i feel like that’s part of getingt used to them but for me cqc versions are the best and I’ve tried all the heights of these things.

Don’t make a choice to buy these sticks on reviews from this site 90% of the reviews look payed for or done by the people who made the site. (at least that’s my feel) check around different places that have unbiased reviews (good luck on that btw.

) Anyway I love my CQC’s even though my first pair fell apart within a month pretty sure it was just a faulty pair. My new pair’s been awesome for about A year and five months now so yeah pretty nice.

these things aren’t for everyone i feel but for me they stick! ( haha!. get it? T_T) I’ll definitely buy more cqc’s when my current ones break apart due to all the gaming i do but ill likely have this pair a while since i’m real gentle with my remotes.

I’ve been using these for well over 6 months now. I definitely prefer the feel of these thumbsticks to using the standard PS4 thumbsticks. They snap on to the standard PS4 thumbsticks with 3 plastic locking tabs.

They snap on and come off pretty easily when you want them to, but I haven’t had any issue with them coming off during gameplay. I’m a little concerned about the possibility of the locking tabs breaking at some point after enough times of taking the sticks off and then on again.

I kind of wish they were made out of metal. If you’re careful with the sticks they should last a long time. The top part feels firm but is softer than the standard PS4 sticks. The surface is very easy for my thumbs to get fairly good grip even just lightly resting my thumb on them.

I use them for everything, FPS, 3rd person action RPG’s, racing games, you name it. I sometimes feel the need to clean them off with some alcohol to improve my grip after long gaming sessions as they can get a little slippery after a while, but I have sweaty hands.

If you don’t, then you probably won’t need to worry about it. There are probably better thumbsticks for precise aiming in competitive FPS games but if you just want something comfortable to use that’s not too much taller than the standard PS4 sticks these will work well enough.

I’ve owned several joystick extensions, and Kontrol Freeks are the best. The battle royales are the best ones I’ve ever owned. I used to like the concave ones because I felt my thumb would slip less, but the convex ones are better in my opinion.

The convex surface gives you more control because there is more surface area in contact with your thumbs while moving the stick. Also, the grip on these ones is superior to all of the other ones I’ve tried.

I find my thumbs slip less on these. For the money I think all analog stick extensions are over priced because they’re just 2 small pieces of rubber/plastic, but since they’re all over priced spending a few bucks more to get the Kontrol Freeks is worth the money.
