20 Best Tick Removal Tool (2022 Updated)

After last year’s COVID related wildlife surge, the ticks are out in full force this summer in the northeast. I took my dear rescue camping for the first time this weekend and we found a truly staggering number of dog ticks on her, myself, and our gear, despite staying out of the tall grass as much as possible.

This was a life saver. I bought a lot of stuff to prepare for her first camping trip, but this was the BEST. I was even able to use the crowbar end to remove a tick fro the back of my neck by feel alone.

It was well worth the $8. I may buy a backup just to keep in the car for our hikes. Be warned, though: the business end with the tweezers is sharp. Stabbed myself a couple of times by accident. I’m probably going to try to get a leather sheath or something to store them in just to reduce the possibility of accidental injury.

These are such a life saver when you have a dog. Ticks have been so bad this year. I come home from a 20 minute walk with my pup and end up taking 3-6 ticks off of her. The one end of the are slightly angled fine tweezers.

This is perfect for any ticks that are just crawling around. The tight grip giving you the chance to flush the parasites without dropping them. The other end is a flat piece with a small ‘V’ split in the middle.

This end is my favorite for any tick that has already bitten. Just slide the flat end across the skin lining up the mouth of the tick in the middle. Keep moving until the point of the ‘V’ has gently removed the tick from your dog’s skin.

Take it to the toilet and flush. I keep it in my treat bag for all of my walks.

Easy to use and the tweezers side is nice for tiny ticks or other issues – I ended up using it for a double-porcupine weekend to pull quills out too! Great value for the price. I bought this and the smaller multipack of green plastic ones, I prefer this as it is easier to hold and twist in my opinion.

This is an effective and convenient tool for removing ticks. It can be conveniently carried on a keychain. When needed, it convinces the tick to let go without the risk of leaving the head or inducing regurgitation as tweezers or other methods often do.

The light but durable aluminum construction encourages me to have the device with me on a daily basis. I try to bear in mind that ticks can be transferred to me just by petting my dogs, especially after they have been on a romp around the property.

Their flea and tick protection will not help me in these circumstances.

I used one of these to remove an attached but not engorged dog tick from my belly this morning. The metal that this is stamped out of is a bit thick for the purpose, so it took a few tries before I was able to catch the tick in the pinch point of the opening.

Once that was done the tick was released instantly and easily, but I can see other systems that use fine wire loops as being more effective. I’m honestly not sure this could remove a deer tick unless it was fully engorged, as they’re so tiny.

But as something to have in a first aid kit in dog tick country it’s definitely better than nothing and safer than tweezers.

Saw a mom use this today to get a tiny tick out of her child’s hand, it was in between 2 fingers at a funny angle. This tool helped loosen the tick, amazing! It was also gentle enough for a 4 y/o to stand still while mom worked at it.

At the end tweezers finally pulled the whole tick out- but this key made it possible.

Been always happy with products from MPG but this one is disappointed. Style is great but material is poor. A hole in the front of tank after first wash even before first wearing.

I have a Shetland sheepdog, she has long, thick fur. Perfect for ticks to hide. This tiny tool works so well. You just slide the slit around the tick and gently twist until it releases and lift away.

Bang out the little sucker into the toilet and flush it away! It’s user friendly and easy to store. The bright shade of green makes it easy to locate. A must with pets, especially in the woods like I live in.

It’s the worst. There’s a tick on you, it’s gross, it’s a bug and (if you’re like me) you start to freak out. It’s ok though, stay calm and grab your tick tornado and get that little bugger off of you! These are so much better than tweezers in that they don’t agitate the tick.

With tweezers you have to squeeze the tick and they end up spitting inside you (gross!!!). Don’t know what I did without this little tool but my skin is super happy with less tick related infections.

So happy with my purchase!! These are amazing! I found 2 very tiny nymph ticks on my dog’s lower belly after a weekend of camping/hiking. They were much too small to remove with a regular tick key or even tweezers, so I used the smaller of these tools and removed them flawlessly.

I rate this five stars for easy usage. However, I’m rating it 1 star as you are now selling it for $23.05 for ONE?! Ridiculous price!

I saw these a few years ago at walmart and picked them up for my medicine cabinet. It was a great purchase. these are simple to use even my 7 year old can do it. They are quick and efficient the tick was off my son yesterday before he had time to get upset.

I’ve had to remove a lot of ticks form my horses and this one works THE BEST!!! Very easy to use without disturbing the tick so it dislodges easily & without destroying it in case it needs to be tested later.

A little pricey for what it is but it does work the best.

I live in an area where ticks were a non issue until a few years ago. Now they are common and inspire fear and loathing as Lymes Disease proliferates. I carry one of these little tools in my car (along with a little spray bottle of alcohol) and use it on children, adults, and pets.

Simply push the plunger on top, grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible and turn the tool counter-clockwise (thats lefty-loosie for the digital minds) and the tick lets go. I usually carry the puller in a small zip top bag with the alcohol and a few tiny zip top bags.

I release the tick into a bag, spray it with alcohol and zip it shut for the doc to test if needed. Then I clean the wound with more alcohol and hope for the best. I actually bought several of these for Christmas as stocking stuffers for my adult children to carry in their cars.

I bought this tick remover with much scepticism. I know how difficult it is to remove a tick. But the Coghlan Tick Remover is everything it claims to be. I have removed six ticks to date with it and each one successfully! Head and all! I highly recommend this product!.

Putting it simply. IT WORKS!!.

First time I’ve ever found a tick on my Lab. I wanted to get it off asap. Picked up this tick remover and followed directions exactly. It wasn’t strong enough to hang on to the tick. I finally just used tweezers and was careful not to crush the tick.

The tool was useless!.

As NHS have just issued further guidance on the rise in the issue of ticks and Lyme disease I thought this would be a good addition to my wallet. I’d recommend one of these to anyone who enjoys the outdoors and occasionally wears shorts.

The quality seems pretty good, thicker material than expected and solid construction. Fits nicely in my wallet too so I can keep it handy just in case. The best tool for the job is always the one you have on you when you need it and I think this card design is perfect for just that.

I’ve thankfully not had to use this against a tick yet but glad I’ll have it on hand should the need arise.

I Bought 3! Great price at 2. 49 each so shame I can’t buy more. Two were gifts (don’t judge!) and one for my rucksack. One recipient had just had a very bad experience requiring medical intervention and the other for a young niece who has decided to follow her dad’s profession as a shepherd! Compact design makes it practical to keep in wallet or purse so always got to hand.

Would like another for my first aid box and more for other outdoor-loving friends.

Bought one of these as a “Clearance” item at [@], only one they had left. This past weekend on a family outing, had the need for it three times and all three times it worked like a charm. My 4 year old never cried when we removed a tick from her side.

I’ve use it to remove ticks from dogs and people. It’s easy to use and removes the whole tick.

When you live in the country, spraying for ticks isn’t environmentally friendly given the amount of pesticide required to cover several acres. Not uncommon to do chores around the property and have them parisites hitch a ride and have a meal on the family pet, me or the kiddos.

I have tried many tips and tricks with fair to poor results. Worst being accidentally squeezing the tick, and breaking off mouth pieces when trying to remove it. Squeezing causes the tick to reflux, or eject it’s innards and leaving mouth pieces causes infection in the skin.

You can’t tell if this happens until days later. The Tick Tornado doesn’t squeeze the tick, chance of reflux/ stomach prolapse eliminated. Tick tornado lessens the chance of mouth pieces being left under the skin.

Biggest sell point? These gross parasites don’t need to be touched! Took me three clockwise turns for ticks to be dislodged. Easy to tell, they crawl around on the Tick Tornado. Take a small cap of Isopropyl Alcohol and submerge the tick and gently shake it off.

I keep the ticks, after removal, for several days. In case something out of the norm appears at the bite site, I have the critter for testing. Is this gross? Yes, no question.

I have a small feral cat colony that I have tamed enough that I can at least pet them and some I can pick up or hold on my lap. Since they are outdoors all the time, they occasionally get ticks. In fact, when I see the first tick in the Spring, that’s when I start applying flea and tick applications.

I used to use tweezers and try steady pulling to remove ticks from these cats. Sometimes the head would break off and stay in the cat. Then if I tried to remove that the cats would hate it and run away.

My son gave me a Tick Twister two years ago, and it works great. If I feel or see a tick on the cats, I put down some tasty food to keep the cat occupied. Then I slide the tick twister across the area until the tick is trapped in the “V” shaped notch.

Then I twist – no pulling – and the ticks ALWAYS release immediately and intact. You can see that the entire tick is trapped in the notch, and the nasty things are usually thrashing about and moving their legs trying to escape.

I put a paper towel on a firm surface, put the bottom of the Tick Twister on it, and slide the notch over the paper towel going backward to pull the tick out of the notch. You can easily see the disgusting pest on the paper.

They usually start crawling away, so you have to be ready to crush it. They are hard to crush, so I fold over the paper towel and use the bottom of the Tick Twister or a large pebble or the back of an old metal spoon to crush the tick between the paper.

I always check to make sure it is crushed and not moving anymore. Do not touch the tick! After the tick is crushed, I put the paper towel in an old plastic container or a plastic bag with no holes in it.

Then I put it in the outdoor garbage. The great part is that the ticks remove quickly and painlessly. They release from the cat when you do the twisting motion. They do not pull on the cat’s skin at all.

The cats don’t even seem to notice that I am removing the ticks compared to when I used tweezers and it hurt them. I am buying another Tick Twister to give to my sister to use on her dogs because they run all over her large yard and often bring in ticks.

She has been using a tissue and her fingers to pull off the ticks, and the dogs often don’t like it and squirm away. The Tick Twister will solve her problem.

We just rescued a dog only to come home and find out the poor thing was covered in ticks. Being a Southern California native, I had never seen one in my life let alone know how to get rid of them. We put some drops on him which helped to kill the smaller ones off but the big suckers were unfortunately still attached.

Did more research and came across this and went to our local store and picked one up as a last ditch effort since I was too scared to use tweezers in his dense fur. LIFESAVER. This device is so easy to use and has allowed to me to get 15+ disgusting ticks off of our dog (before we can get him to the vet tomorrow) with ease.

The two size options are great and every time we’ve removed one it’s gotten the head completely off as well. Any body who has the occasional tick problem look no further and get this ASAP.

This is a great tool. Recently discovered a tiny tick on me and these made it a breeze to remove. We have used tweezers in the past, and they are not easy to use and constantly slipping. I have bought these as a gift also, because they really are great to have in your first aid kit.

I purchased this from Walmart a few years ago because we have so many ticks each year and needed something to remove them. So far this year, I have had at least 7 ticks on me that needed to be removed.

This has even removed the small nymph deer ticks. I am purchasing another so we can keep one in our camper also.

I bought this item to take camping with me. I’m an Assistant Scout Master for a Boy Scout Troop. While going camping and as boys do like to play and explore in the woods. So we have the boys check themselves for ticks.

And the Last time we went out those boys did have some ticks. So it was very helpful in removing those tick for arms, legs and other places. But it was very easy for the boys to use to remove those ticks.

I’ve had one for years and just recently lost it. I tried using tweezers to remove the tick from my cat, and she has a lump where I didn’t get it all. I never had to worry about that the the tick remover.

I highly recommend it for pets and people too!!.

Poor quality, not worth the money. Won’t last five minutes. Looks and feels like something you would get out of a Christmas cracker.

This product works well, so much I bought several for home, camping, car first aid kit. The larger clasping head works on adult ticks and the smaller head works on tick nymphs. The intended twisting/spinning motion with this tool is superior to removing the whole tick whereas traditional tweezer/forcep “grasp and pull” technique leaves behind mouth parts.

I love this little tick remover. We live in the country, between my 2 dogs and my husband this works like a charm. Even my dog groomer used mine. Now she has the tick remover in her place of business.

This is THE best tick twister remover. Just follow instructions & keep twisting the tick will come out of your skin with NO pain. If you live/ camp/ walk/run/ in wooded areas have of these. Product is made in France.

I’ve always found these tricky to use, but this one is so much easier….and I’ve clipped it to the back door key, so I always know where it is!

Just what you need in this hot dry spring/summer with so many ticks about.

After having used a pair of tweezers to remove a tick and not being able to get all of it out, I’ve discovered there is a better way. By sliding this slotted “Pro-Tick Remedy” flush with the skin and around the tick’s mouth where it is attached to the skin, firm but gentle pressure can be used to pry the whole tick away from its blood meal.

It seems to be far more effective and safer than the oft used efforts to “motivate” the tick to back out because of heat, suffocation or squeezing. Completely removing potential disease carrying ticks is not an every day event for humans or pets but having this tool available in one’s first aid kit or medicine cabinet is an excellent idea.

Recently, I’ve learned that tick-borne diseases can lead to very serious and complex health problems. Preventing tick bites is preferable! However, should one get by you, having a simple, safe and effective tool like this available to remove an attached tick is the way to go.

Now, I’m prepared!.

At 5 – 6 each, these work well and are the best tick removers that I have encountered amongst several types. From this source however, actual cost has ended at about 16 each because of postal costs and undisclosed import duties.

The remover is great, It is a VERY expensive item when bought through this site. So much so that I would not buy again.

I had three ticks attached to me last weekend and got the first one after a couple of tries with this tool, but not the second one. After I had the tweezers out, I just used them for the third as well.

I had hoped to be able to say that it works even with the smaller ticks, but that wasn’t the case for me. It’s a shame because it’s so easy to carry. I put a cord through the hole and two washers on the cord to use as impromptu tweezers or to help crush the tick.

I’ll keep this tool, but I don’t think I can rely on it. The problem I had is just like what others have reported, it’s too hard to capture a small tick at the tip. It also feels a little expensive for what you get, I kept thinking I could find a cheaper model somewhere on eBay.

I’ve used a nearly identical tool by another brand. It works well on larger ticks. It’s relatively thick. As someone mentioned, it won’t work on minuscule nymph ticks, but I think that’s unreasonable to expect.

It’s cheap, small, and a useful item for your medical toolkit.

Looks like other reviewers have had success in pulling off ticks with this tool. Not me. In the case of a little bugger smaller than one of those stars this item just slid over the top of it again, and again, and again.

It moved the body of the tick around but never grabbed it, which I presume that narrow end of the slot is supposed to do. I ended up removing the thing with a pair of tweezers. I would give this one star myself, but imagine it might work with a large or already engorged tick.

I’ll be sticking to tweezers.

Hopefully won’t need them.

If you have pets that go out or you hunt or hike or kids that play outside near wooded areas, these are a must. It is impossible to properly and safely remove a tick with standard tweezers. These work great.

Best way to remove a tick and not have to worry! Easy to use, takes second to get the hang of it but really works well. The ticks have been awful this year so i was glad this come in a 2 pack so i could give 1 set to my son for his child.
