13 Best Tiller Extension Handle (2022 Updated)

Handle did not fit my MinKota trolling motor until I removed the rubber insert in the handle. Fit fine after that, but have to be careful not tighten too much or it will mar the motor handle. It was shipped FedEX and arrived in two days, so no problem there.

Other items on same order shipped US Postal Service and took 10 days to get here. there were not shipping charges and it’s probably not WM fault, but that is still waaaay too long to wait for product.

This extension was labeled telescopic an it was just a piece of aluminum rake handle .1 solid length did not extend at all

Fits good and once I removed the inner sleave.

Rooster provide the necessary part very speedily. Excellent service. However the actual part came with no instructions on how to fit it. I had to go to a web site in America to get a video of how it went together.

I am pretty handy but you needed drills and heat guns and luckily I had a vice to hold everything together. It took me at least an hour to fit. I only replaced this part as the old extension tiller universal joint was showing signs of wear and I had to use this replacement part to fit with the tiller extension which was Ronstan.

Comes with a new pin to hold fast but I was surprised that a hole is not pre-drilled for that pin to be inserted. Make sure you’ve got a drill and assortment of bits handy when you look to install. Heat shrink is included to secure the job once it is done which is nice.

Fit my existing tiller holes perfectly and was a direct replacement on my existing Ronstan Battle Stick. The only think I needed to reuse was the saddle component between the tiller and the universal mount.

I’m a daysailor so I use it with a lock box to hold the rudder while maneuvering under power. But mainly, I adjust the length depending on wind conditions and sit back to enjoy the feel of the rudder when sailing.

Mounting location on tiller is important to avoid impeding movement. If it’s not a replacement, you’ll have to install a tiller clip on the tiller.

Solid, great movement, easy to install.

Just got this in the mail, will have to return it to West Marine store in Kemah this weekend and waste an hour. Very poor quality control, extension mechanism is totally locked up and does not work. obvious to me that no one at Forespar checked this before it was shipped.

I hate to return things so I’ll pick out another brand.

It works fine, but then again, perhaps my expectations weren’t as high as other reviewers. After removing the rubber inner sleeve, it fits percectly over my 1970 Evinrude Fisherman outboard tiller handle.

I wouldn’t say that it’s quite worth what they’re charching for it, but i also wasn’t interested in going through all of the trouble of making a clumsy DIY pvc pipe either. If you want the short and sweet version; yes, it works just fine.

I lost my original Minnekota extension, so I bought this one. It’s longer and allows me to steer with the trolling motor really great from the bow. I have a really small 9’ bass boat and thus my trolling motor is my only motor.

It’s a little long for the stern, but still works OK. If you don’t have an extension for your motor, I definitely would get this one or any of the Minnekota extensions.

We have a small lake to fish on and a small old pontoon. We hooked it up on it and we can travel with ease. We had a smaller motor but when the wind blew we did not go anywhere. This one moves nicely.

Also it is taller and you don’t have to bend over every time you want to speed up or down or stop or go. Very nice!!.

The Battlestick tiller extension allows me to sail my 17 ft day sailer single handed. To get a clear view of the headsail tell tales, I need to sit amid ship. Without this extension, I cannot read the sails.

The Battlestick will stand up when you let go of the tiller making it very easy to grab it again. While no hardware came with the unit, I got some ss 1″ wood screws and mounted the Battlestick in less than 2 minutes.

I also got the tiller clip to lock down the Battlestick when I am running downwind, taking down the mainsail, or cruising with the motor.

Great for racing—the unidirectional pivot point makes manoeuvring a breeze (haha). This high quality and durable and lightweight tiller extension feels perfect in the hand. The retractable twist activated lengthener is so convenient when that extra foot is needed.

This extension works great on my MC Scow. It’s just a hair shorter than the stock one, but the only time you notice it when you’re doing some extreme hiking. The best part of this tiller is that it returns to center by itself if you leave it stored in the folded position.

I race solo on a Capri 16.5 and needed the extra length to get as far forward as possible. BS is lighter and the twist lock never lets me down.

The service from this Vendor is stellar. Highest rating!!!! Davis, meh, not so good. This is the same Tiller Tamer, with all of its many glaring faults, that they’ve been producing for years. This is what you call successful niche marketing – there was a definite hole in the market for this type of item so Davis jumped on it and then did nothing to improve the product.

Unfortunately, it looks to me, once again, that profit is the only motive, as nothing has changed. Same old flimsy plastic, barely UV inhibited. Same old stupid design that frays lines hitting against sharp plastic edges at the entry and exit points.

So, with this lemon, you can make lemonade: install a homemade sheave entry-exit assembly at the after end of the Tamer to that lines are guided into and out of the unit via sheaves. Not hard to do. Google it.

With this modification, it’s an okay product. Note to Davis: don’t you have ANYONE there who can figure this kind of stuff out and present the upgrade in newer factory runs? Please, give me a break.

At first this item looks like a good value, but what good is a low cost item if it does not work? I tried this on my 26 foot sailboat and it could not maintain course under power in calm seas. I wanted something to maintain course while I raised sails or went into the cabin for short periods.

Although this may work on smaller boats and small lakes, it is not suited for 25-30′ boats and coastal cruising. The description says up to 30′ boat but the line supplied with it is too short for such an application.

I think if you are going to market a product to a particular niche, the product aught to be suited to that purpose. I will have to bite the bullet and buy an expensive auto pilot or bring along a first mate.

My older 24′ Helms has a bit of a handicap – I have to help get the hanks up the mast when raising the main. This means leaving the boat and tiller in the hands of anyone else on board. I have wanted to take the boat out solo – and began looking at every solo aid out there.

This product’s reviews are mixed. While it may not be great for other boats – for mine it works nicely. I even put it to the test during 15knots on the lake – and it held on just fine. I saw no flexing or breakage of plastic.

Will that be a problem with age? Maybe – but quite happy for now.

Installed this on a Minn Kota edge 45/45 bow mount hand control. Serves it purpose. Did fall off a few times and had no more adjustment on the tightening knob. Solved this problem by wrapping the handle of the motor with some electrical tape to make it bigger since I didn’t plan on removing it.

I’ve been sailing the Laser for 3 years now. This tiller extension doesn’t come close to the others. I’m quite a particular guy, especially with what comes onto the Laser with me. The large red bulb is the best part of the product for me.

There’s no way that I’m going to slip my hands off the tiller with that awesome rubber piece on the end. Out of all of the other tiller extensions I’ve come across, it’s the best one for grip because of that excact reason.

It changes the way you interact with the boat dramatically.

Haven’t used it yet but chose the 19mm size after watching Steve’s videos. Well worth taking the time if you are undecided on width size. Quick service and well packaged.
