20 Best Tire Cleaner Autogeek (2022 Updated)

Telling you right now, this product does exactly what it says, and I’m delighted to report that. Not only is it a nice citrus smelling wheel cleaner, but this formula comes in a gel form that sticks on whatever you spray it.

This makes it extremely effective in breaking down brake dust and road grit. I still ended up using a brush to agitate it after letting it dwell on the wheel for about 30 seconds, but no complaints. I spent way less time scrubbing this stuff versus other wheel cleaners I use.

Full disclosure, I have a 2017 JKU with stock aluminium rims, which attract brake dust like it’s their job. That being said, I’m ecstatic when I find a good cleaning solution for the wheels. Seriously, this is the wheel cleaner you’re looking for.

No brainer. Just get it.

Bought this for cleaning Honda and Porsche wheels and wheel wells, trying to find an economical alternative to Sonax cleaner. Used first on the Honda Pilot. The wheel centers are NOT painted/clear-coated so MUST be removed prior to wheel cleaning.

So wheel comes off first, centers come out, and then get to clean the wheels. The cleaner did a great job on outer wheel faces and the outer tire face. The wheel barrel cleaning is OK, and the inner tire face cleaning is less than ideal on my car.

Outer faces get regular black tire shine treatment, wheels get regular clean and paint sealant. Use: I used it at 1:1 dilution in a spray bottle, surfaces “agitated” after application with a medium brush.

I applied and brushed twice on the insides/barrels. Original brake pads, clear-coated aluminum wheels including barrels. Barrels and faces were sealed using Meguiars sealant at last cleaning. Inside tire faces were still dirty brown after two cleanings.

🙁 I like to keep the Honda Pilot wheel faces, tires, and the inner barrels clean and bright the way I keep the Porsche wheels and tires. Pilot gets the not-summer driving duty so contends with road de-icer slurry.

The Sonax does a better/easier job removing pad deposits, but unfortunately costs the same for 16oz as this Meguiars cleaner costs for a gallon. This Meguiars cleaner dilutes 1:1 up to 2:1 per the label, so potentially stretches a lot farther than the Sonax.

It ends up with an extra respraying and brushing/rinsing step, plus the wheels MUST be removed for center caps. It’s north of a wash (sorry. ) just on cost. I still have a few bottles of the Sonax to use on the Porsche wheels.

Pilot wheels and undercarriage will get a bath with normal car wash detergent, then get a full paint sealant, before I pass final judgment on this product. So far, cleaning is good but not Sonax great, but overall $ value is better than the the Sonax.

The Honda Pilot center caps are raw aluminum face over plastic, with a vinyl H emblem applied. This cleaner darkens the raw aluminum face and demands a manual polish and seal effort if inadvertently applied to the caps.

An extra step if you screw up and try to clean the wheels on the car with caps in place. I made that mistake on the first wheel I did, won’t again.

This wheel & tire cleaner is my preferred cleaner for my detailing business. I’ve been using it for around 8 months, and have found that it works very well. I run 2 variations; A non-diluted and 1:1 diluted bottle, and have found that the 1:1 dilution works perfectly for almost everything I throw at it.

If you’re looking for a different cleaner, I highly recommend this one right here. Plus, the price-point on this gallon versus parts store prices for a 32oz. RTU bottle is unbeatable. My order was handled well, packaged nicely, and arrived within a timely manner.

Ive always liked meguiers cleaners. Ive used them on the inside and outside of my vehicles. I have a Wrangler with new really nice shiny wheels that are made of polished aluminum. I bought this stuff to clean my wheels that get very dirty and muddy from being off road.

It works very good. Took all of the dirt, mud and grime off easily with a scrub brush. My wheels are shiny and reflective afterwards, so much so that I can see myself. Im very impressed.

I wound up using the entire bottle in one go so I was surprised at that, definitely helps get things off including light rust but I wasn’t able to purchase specialized wheel brushes at the time and I recommend that for pretty dirty wheels and mine are.

I have used a variety of products before so I attribute some of the buildup that is left to that and a lack of proper wheel brushes but it does seem to have helped some. Be careful using it on paint though as it may damage certain coatings, it definitely seemed to do something to my hood paint but that paint isn’t in the best shape to begin with but I followed instructions and rinsed it off fairly quickly and was able to remove any problem this product may have left with some spray ceramic wax.

it does still smell a bit though although perhaps not as bad as previous products but is by no means pleasant.

Had a lot of brake dust from getting new brakes. I sprayed this on and let it sit for a bit while I washedy windows. When I came back I was using the woolies to clean the spokes of my wheels and everything was coming off.

The wheels sparkled so nice. I finished the tires off with the turtlewac shine and my car was pimpin.

My tires had brown dull covering on them from winter, this product removed it !!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, GREAT PRICE!

I’ve used a lot of tire cleaners in my life and I have to say this is the best by far, if you definitely want to have a ultimate tire shine You should definitely get this tire cleaner

Does exactly what it says, and removes the brown bloom that tyres seems to acquire over time, ready for dressing afterwards. Leave a very clean finish, providing plenty of product is used and agitated almost immediately.

Don’t allow dwell very long before washing off, otherwise the product itself can stain and leave a less than perfect finish for dressing.

Shocked the first time I used it and it had taken every thing off with out no scrub

Bought this kit back in February – have only used it a few times as the car I bought to use it on, rarely is driven. It doesn’t really do that much from a cleaning standpoint – I follow the directions to the letter – but still requires a lot of scrubbing to get the brake dust to let go – and my wheels are ceramic-coated.

Additionally, used it the third time this weekend and the trigger broke off on the sprayer bottle. I expected a better quality product and sprayer unit than came with this, and I won’t be buying it again, unfortunately.

I do auto detailing as a hobby and I was pleased with the results of this cleaner. I deal with all styles of wheels (gloss/matte/stock/painted) and this works incredibly well on any finish. On top of that, it just works.

I get a lot of neglected cars, and the wheels are almost always caked with brake dust and gunk. I followed the instructions and the gunk just goes away. The smell isn’t strong, which is nice. Due to the neutral nature of the chemicals, I don’t have to be concerned about my clothes or skin getting misted as I work.

I bought to clean my wheels on my BMW and I am not impress with the results. I have ceramic racing brake pads that are low brake dust. Wheel cleaner does not do a good job at penetrating all the brake dust and grime.

After fallowing instructions on bottle a good brush on the wheels and rise. Wheels do come out clean and it does restore some color to the wheels. I will not be buying this again in my opinion it those not clean as it should is not strong enough.

The Bain of my life, x3m and m235grain coupe. Two tone colour , plenty of spokes and blue m performance calipers. Wash wheel , used iron remover then washed off. Finally cleaning one wheel at a time with the Apex customs pump foamer covered wheel with the brake buster.

Using a micro fibre wheel brush agitated product, then final rinse. Absolutely immaculate wheels. The best wheel cleaner I have ever bought. Just to say I like cleaning cars I am in no way a professional, no where near it but just obsessed!.

Great cleaner for maintenance washing. Straight it can get through some heavy brake dust. Diluted it’s economical and works well too. Won’t work on very baked on stuff. This is my third gallon. I love it.

Just want it a bit stronger so I don’t need to carry wheel brightener.

This really stacks up to the acid-based wheel cleaners, but is safer for your wheels. I purchased mine a while back from a different store, but will soon be purchasing it from Apex. I love that this is dilutable even at 1:1 with water.

Also amazing for tyres. Even at a 1:1 dilution you’ll see the foam turn brown. Definitely recommended especially for aftermarket wheels.

I used this stuff after every car wash, but there’s a problem. it dries tires out & leaves a greasy film, even after you use a tire shine applicator. Great shine, but i will not have $$$ wasted in tires trying to look good.

I recently switched products to give it a try. If you want a temporary tire shine, this is it, but be sure to scrub your tires afterwards. Also rub this stuff in, cause it will splatter all over your car if you drive with it on(common sense i guess).

I had been a Black Magic tire gel user for years. I swore by it. I bought a brand new Buick Lacrosse and I kept noticing that it was something sticky all on the side of the car. Well. it was gel sling.

I got off from work and went to WalMart and bought this product after reading reviews of it. This stuff has me in awe. It is great. Just as good. if not better than the gel. If you get any sling from this.

it will be minimal. Plus. you do not have to use alot of this to get your tires shiny. A can should last you a long time even if you wash every week. Just like the BrylCreem commercial. a little dab will do you.

I am in the process of switching to Meguiars for all my car care needs and I wll continue to buy them from WalMart because you cannot beat the price. We work too hard to pay for these cars not to keep them clean.

I have been washing cars since I was 16 and I am 54 now and this stuff is more than worth the money that you pay for it.

Bought this back in May based on reviews. After washing the car and wheels/tires, i applied about 2 quick coats on the tires (2 revolutions of spray). Instead of wiping, i would take a quick drive around the block to allow centripetal force to spread out the spray onto the tire, no wiping afterwards.

If done correctly, the shine is great and lasts a while if you don’t drive in dirty wet conditions. Only downside is the spray leaves a 4 smiley face marks on my driveway, which even a power spray has a hard time removing.

To remedy this, I just apply the spray while parked in the street.

I just used Sonax for the first time. I had been a P21s user for years and wasn’t crazy about P21s. I have to say that I am glad I made the switch to Sonax. It got out some of the really tough metallic bits that get stuck on the wheels that P21s wouldn’t clean.

I used the uber boar’s hair brush and the Swissvax wheel brush, both of which I think are necessities especially if the wheels are more intricate. The only negative things I can say are that Sonax isn’t the best smelling stuff.

I’ve used quite a few wheel cleaners over the years on five new Bimmers I’ve been fortunate to own and I must say that my 2017 really likes being cleaned with this stuff. It’s quick, effective and who wouldn’t love to see the a color change which means “I’m working”.

A must buy.

This product works great! My wheels and tires came out super clean. Unfortunately it takes a lot of product to thoroughly clean my wheels and tires. Despite them relatively clean. I’ll use this product, but only when I need a deep clean, which is probably this products intended purpose.

I’ll continue to use an APC for my regular washes.

I have been using Meguiar’s Hot Shine Tire Foam for many years and it is the best tire foam out there. I have tried them all. Little tip here – for maximum results – clean your tires with hot soapy water and a stiff brush – dry and then apply Hot Shine Foam.

Stand back and say “Wow”. Clean detailed tires are the finishing touch on a freshly washed/detailed vehicle.

Any spray on tire dressing has a little “cleanup” involved, But I was impressed with the general ease of application of this product. It’s pretty direct, and allows you to control where it goes. My truck tires take two, 2-second light passes.

An inner, and an outer, to cover the tire. There’s a small amount of run that’s easy to wipe clean. and it “sets” pretty quickly in 15-30 minutes, before I do a final touch-up. Overnight is best before driving.

Makes my tires look black, wet, and new. But not overly “shiny”. Lasts until the next washing. But doesn’t tolerate wiping in-between washes like some other brands do. Each wash, I clean with Bleech White tire cleaner, and start fresh.

I too have used Westley’s Bleach White on my tires for years. Certainly cleans the tires but carries with it a harsh bleach mist that makes me gag. Bought a new Porsche and thought Westley’s might be too strong in the event of overspray on wheels.

Bought Rubber Cleaner along with several other Griot products to help me keep this new Porsche clean. The rubber cleaner works perfectly. No harsh smell and with the Griots tire brush, tires are spotless and ready for dressing.

Not any better than your standard APC, I was after something that would thoroughly clean my tires and I don’t feel this product achieved that. Frankly I don’t think it did much. I’ll use it up but don’t plan on picking this up again.

My APC works much better than this and I would return but I’ll just keep it in hopes of finding something it works good on.

I bought this twice, the first time it really didn’t work well and I thought maybe I had a bad batch. I just recently bought another gallon and had the same results. The product did absolutely nothing for my tires.

I’m usually pretty impressed with all of Griots garage products and been a loyal customer for over ten years, but I do not recommend this.

My favorite wheel cleaner I’ve used. It’s not too expensive in the gallon size, 1 gallon for $25 vs 32oz for more than half the price is good. With this wheel cleaner literally within 5 seconds you can see the chemical working on the dirt on the tire and wheel.

The spray turns brown almost as soon as it hits the tire.

This product is remarkable! I actually used this on a my set of tires on my car that I hadn’t washed in nearly 3 months. The grime and dirt on the tires and wheels fell right off and my wheels looked like I had already washed them with water and Meguair’s wash and wax liquid.

I highly recommend this stuff. Would be nice to use even on the go, just gotta make sure you rinse the wheels and tires after 30-45 seconds. Don’t wanna let it settle for too long.

I mainly use it heavily for the inside of the wheels (barrel). Product cleans Ok, hasn’t caused any damage to my painted clear coated wheels, but it still requires the wheel to be wiped down, and that’s on a car that is always garaged and rarely sees rain.

So it doesn’t completely take the brake dust away. It didn’t do much for my tire cleaning either? Tires looked kind of brown afterwards.

I like this product for use on maintenance washes. For really dirty wheels and tires I tend to reach for dedicated products like an acid-based wheel cleaner and a straight degreaser, but that is just my personal preference.

I have not tried this product on wheels/tires that are extremely dirty. I like that this can be used for both wheels and tires because it saves time, even if it’s just a little. Also, it’s fairly inexpensive and comes from a brand I trust.

Overall, I’m very pleased.

This product does exactly what is advertised. Cleans the tires of the brown stains and grime and restores them back to a black finish. I like this product because it leaves the tires a flat back with no shine.

I approve of this product.

I have been using another well known wheel product for many years now and have always said great things about it. But changing to a euro car recently I found that as soon as I did the 10 minute clean on each wheel as per directions, I would drive 50m down the road and my gloss black rims were covered in brake surface rust again.

So, i didnt think it would change anything by changing cleaners. But WOW. This stuff was excellent. I dont know what it is but i havent seen as much of that purple iron run off since the early days of using the other product.

My wheels are super clean and have managed to stay that way for some reason. Only downside is that I gave it a bit of a shake before using and the thing popped the lid and sprayed with that nasty smelling liquid.

Just dont shake it.

Excellent product which does exactly what it says and I didn’t even use a brush so as to see how it performed. Very satisfied with the product and have no hesitation in recommending. Used on my new car as well as my son’s car rims which had not been done for years and the end result was impressive I must say.

Being from southern Arizona your car or truck does not become dirty from bad weather that often. So my number one problem areas are my wheels. The brake grime accumulates so fast because we do not wash are vehicle’s as often as other parts of the country.

By the time you notice your wheels they are extremely dirty. When I used your Wheel Cleaner I was amazed on how easy the greasy brake residue was removed. I will rate the performance of your Wheel Cleaner spray with an “A +”.

My thoughts are that because the Wheel Cleaner Spray and Brake Dust Eraser works so well together that you might want to offer them as a kit. I have purchased other wheel cleaning products before, but I will definitely switch over to Stoners!.

I got this product a week ago and find it to much more user friendly than the ones I have been using. They contained a dye indicating the metal particles were dissolving, but they really had a bad scent.

This product worked much better without the smell. The brake dust was easy to remove with very little agitation thanks to the foaming action. Parts of the brake caliper that could not be reached just rinsed clean.

Best of all this was the only product I needed for the wheels and tires as it also worked well on the tires. Please package this in gallon containers. It will be my go to wheel and tire cleaner!~.

IšverstiShow in original languageThe wheels on my 2002 Odyssey had literally never been cleaned. So 18 years of driving and 250,000 miles later, the brake dust was so caked on that other wheel cleaners wouldn’t even make the slightest difference.

I mixed wheel brightener 1:3 with water, and went to town. See the photos for results, after about 10 minutes per wheel. Keep in mind this stuff is INCREDIBLY strong, so do NOT use this for your regular cleaning, or for even normally dirty wheels.

The smell alone, even when diluted, hits you in the back of the throat and makes you cough. It is acidic after all so be careful. I have never needed to use it on a customers car, P&S brake buster diluted works wonders for 99% of details, and it’s safe.

But this wheel Brighter is great to have in your backup arsenal, as long as you know when to use it. P. S. My wheels were super damaged and need to be refinished.

IšverstiShow in original languageFirst of all, don’t get freaked out about the acid. That just means its on the acidic side of the pH scale. Guess what? The stuff in your stomach is too! Now, that doesn’t mean you should drink this stuff (or even get it on your skin if you can help it), but it does mean it won’t hurt your rims AS LONG AS you use the product properly and follow the directions.

Pay clear attention to the direction and dilution ratios. Use only on recommended wheels. I believe if you use only on OEM wheels — ones with a clear coat — and avoid aluminum, you SHOULD be fine, but if in doubt, check with your wheel manufacturer.

If still in doubt, test this product on a small area of one wheel. If you still can’t decide, just use another wheel cleaner. I think even if you used this product on aluminum wheels, you can still polish them after use.

So they’ll be clean but a little dull. I couldn’t believe how quick this product worked on my wheels when I first used it. I knew it was good stuff but I thought my wheels were relatively clean. Turns out, they weren’t that clean.

At least, this stuff got a lot of gunk off. I would strongly recommend you wear eye protection when using this product (or any chemical for that matter), especially with any brush that might “sling” any part of the product back in your face.

I had sunglasses on when I first used this product with a new wheel brush and I’m glad I did. Now, I don’t use any chemical without eye protection. Just a friendly tip. Be sure and rinse your wheels prior to applying this product.

You want to work on cool wheels when using. Oh, and you might want to grab an acid resistant sprayer. You might want a few. I put this product in a Bona floor cleaner spray bottle (obviously without the Bona product) because I think their sprayer is the most acid/chemical resistant one there is.

Sprayers may last a day or they may last a lifetime. Good luck, and again, don’t freak out about words like acid that you may not fully understand. Not all of us took chemistry in high school (though I think we all SHOULD have!).
